741.02.13 | Introducing an Egg - M'dox - 13.Feb.20

Since ending up with his first firelizard just over two turns ago, M’dox had somehow not experienced one of his greens laying a clutch. He was [i]pretty[i] sure at least Frivolity had laid eggs before - she had been mysteriously chunky a few times - but he had never found them. And if they had been laid in his own weyr, M’dox was pretty sure he’d have found them by now, even with his standard messiness.

Recently, though, M’dox had found a single tiny egg nestled among Riquarth’s riding straps. He had quickly moved it inside the weyr proper, making a tiny nest for it in a bowl of sand and placing it in the warmest part of the weyr. Both Frivolity and Nubbie tended to ignore the egg, other than an initial exploration of it and the bowl nest. Frivolity had cheeped excitedly in what seemed like recognition, making M’dox think the egg was hers. Even so, she seemed perfectly content to leave its care to M’dox. Which M’dox was happy to do, but he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted a third firelizard; his two were enough.

He did out all the calculations based on what he’d learned of firelizard eggs, and a few days before it was due to hatch M’dox took it, sand bowl nest and all, and went wandering through the halls, hoping to run into someone who’d want to take good care of it. Riquarth pointed out the similarities between his current plan and how he originally got Frivolity’s egg with some amusement. The main difference was his rider was much more earnest about and less inconvenienced by finding the egg a person than Indivara had been.

RE: 741.02.13 | Introducing an Egg - Fediletch - 08.Mar.20

It had been an overall good day so far for Fetch. He'd finished up with his lessons for the day, even had made enough progress in his reading that his tutor had given him a book to try and get through on his own, and a little blank book just for writing notes into (and not just for drawing pictures of dragons in). He had the rest of the day free and was just wandering aimlessly looking for something to do when he spotted a man walking around with a bowl, looking either lost or at least as aimless as he was. He waved. "Hi, you need help finding the kitchen or something?"

He gestured at the bowl, thinking that maybe the stranger just wanted to return it to the kitchen, but then he got a closer look. Why would anyone be carrying around sand and a brown chicken egg in a bowl? You didn't eat sand after all, it would just cause a mess. Fediletch blinked in confusion for a moment, the gears turning in his head. Maybe it wasn't a chicken egg? It did seem a little bigger. But maybe it was just from a big chicken. Better to just ask than assume anything. "Uh. Hope you don't mind me asking but... what do you have there?"
