740.08.10 | Range of (E)motion - B'kit - 19.Aug.19

Between being up every two hours to feed Erebuth, who seemed to prefer even more frequent and smaller meals than his siblings, and the constant fear shared by the others that their bondmates would suddenly expire and subsequent panicked checking of vitals, Kitt was absolutely exhausted. He’d actually fallen asleep in his soup yesterday; what a mess that had been! But at least it had made the others laugh and brightened all their spirits a little.

He looked over at where his dragon--he didn’t think he’d ever get tired of that phrase!--was curled up with his flit, smiling fondly. Nutmeg had been fascinated by the tiny blue dragon and after a few mishaps had befriended Erebuth. The two were so similar in size and Nutty had been so confused at the Giant Firelizard who kept insisting he was a dragon, but the two had eventually settled down, with the brown becoming fiercely protective of his blue friend.

The dragonet was painfully shy, really only comfortable with his clutchmates, though he was beginning to be less timid around the healers who came most frequently. He still had a tendency to hide behind Kitt when other visitors came around, but hopefully that would fade with time and exposure.

He had just settled back onto the bed with them to try to catch a little bit more sleep when Zellekath announced her presence out on the ledge. With a tiny groan, he regretfully went to open his door to let Eb’zer in to check up on the weyrlings. “Hi, Eb’zer,” he greeted the healer with a tired smile. There was a tiny thump and a disgruntled chitter from Nutmeg behind him as Erebuth jumped down off the bed and cautiously stuck his nose out around Kitt’s legs to see who it was.

RE: 740.08.10 | Range of (E)motion - Eb'zer - 31.Aug.19

Eb’zer felt overwhelmed; not because he was overworked, but because he felt he wasn’t able to do enough for the young riders and their younger babies. He wanted to reassure them that they would be fine, but he knew that wasn’t true. It wasn’t a lie, but with each of the infants so small and so skinny, there was no guarantee that they would make it, and Eb’zer was loath to give them false hope. Besides, each of them were smart enough to know how close each of the infants were to death. But priority was keeping them alive, and Eb’zer was taking that very seriously, especially with Zellekath mentally hovering over his shoulder.

With the time rounding out again, Eb’zer had finished his lunch and taken Zellekath down to hunt before the green flew him back, bringing her kill with her so she could sit in the Weyrbowl and eat while remaining close. He’d oiled a dry spot on her nose, and then left her to check on his charges. Eb’zer washed his hands thoroughly in the tub that was at each of the weyr doors; they doubted that they could transfer anything to the Hatchlings, but why be sloppy when a few minutes of being cautious would prevent tragedy?

Making his way through the empty common room, Eb’zer peeked into the first door he reached, and smiled wryly at Beckitt - B’kit - and greeted him quietly before turning to watch as Erebuth shimmied off the bed and hid behind his rider. Eb’zer smiled at the dragonet, crouching down to be much closer to his level, and holding out a chew toy; it was designed for the canines the herders kept; a series of strips of dried meat and leather, woven together into knots and ties that could keep an animal occupied for quite a while. Since Erebuth had a tendency to eat so regularly, Eb’zer wanted to try and occupy the dragonet between meals, to try and get him eating less frequently and more at each meal.

“I got this for you,” he told the little dragon, smiling, and let it go when Erebuth took it tentatively. Standing up, Eb’zer turned his gaze back to B’kitt. “Anything to report?” He asked, quiet and polite but business none the less. He enjoyed socialising with the three new riders, but preferred to make sure all business related things were out of the way first — especially because one moment of blindness could result in death or irreparable damage to the dragons.

RE: 740.08.10 | Range of (E)motion - B'kit - 05.Sep.19

Erebuth had been slowly warming to the healers and when he saw it was Eb’zer at the door he relaxed slightly. He didn’t come out from behind B’kit’s legs, though he did hum cautiously and sniff at the offered toy when it was clear he wasn’t immediately going to be poked or prodded. B’kit gave him an encouraging nod when the blue glanced up at him questioningly. “Go ahead, it’s okay,” he said with a smile.

Thank you Erebuth said in a small gravelly voice. The tiny blue gingerly accepted the toy, holding it by the end and carry-dragging it off to investigate, narrowly avoiding tripping over it and his own feet several times. He circled and settled down, giving it a cautious lick and tilting his head as he considered the best way to approach the puzzling new item. B’kit smiled, watching him, then turned his attention back to the healer. “Nothing much beyond his eating habits. He seems to move a bit more easily than the others, and he doesn’t complain of pain in his joints. Though he’s still so small…”

Kitt gestured to a chair if the healer wanted to sit, perching on the edge of the bed and stroking Nutmeg absently as the flit chittered curiously. “He keeps the food down well enough; one benefit to the smaller meals, I suppose. He doesn’t gorge. But I wish he’d eat just a little more and let us both get some sleep.” The past three days had been simultaneously thrilling, terrifying, and exhausting, and B’kit would give practically anything for one night of uninterrupted sleep. “I don’t know that I’d sleep too well even if he did.”
