739.04.16 | Proper Ladies - Casa - 16.Apr.18

Stepping lightly, Casa made her way through the Weyr towards the rooms where the goldriders spent most of their socialising together. It wasn’t really restricted to just the goldriders, but none of the other dragonriders or staff seemed to be interested in infiltrating the room. Casa honestly enjoyed it; she got to spend time with the other women in the same position as herself, and she found she could be open and honest with them. Most of the current conversation was, of course, gossip about what was inside Nadioth’s eggs, and the fact that she’d been won by N’mor’s bronze Rhezalth.

Casa was no different, of course, but she found T’ryn’s discomfort with the topic curious and amusing. She assumed it was because they were dating (ee!) and the implication that Thallyath would fly someday in the future – hopefully soon! – and Casa wasn’t shy about hinting that T’ryn should have his bronze give chase. She hoped they would win, but Thallyath was ever the sour-sud and seemed to greatly dislike Syrendryth. She didn’t realise the dislike was mutual.

Letting herself into the room, Casa glanced around curiously. It was early in the evening, and a lot of people were still at dinner, so she wasn’t surprised to see the room mostly empty. Mostly, because she spotted the form of Ambrya off to one side, and, smiling, she made her way over to the other girl. She hadn’t really interacted much on a personal level with the younger goldrider, but that didn’t mean she didn’t like her! She found her interesting and friendly, honestly, and enjoyed her input to conversations when they were with the larger group.

“Hello Ambrya!” Casa chirped happily as she threw herself into the armchair opposite the one Ambrya was sitting in, flinging one trousered leg over the armrest and sprawling across the other inelegantly. “What cha doing?”
’What are you doing?’ Thallath corrected, her tone irritated at both Casa’s lack of proper grammar, and her very unladylike pose on the seat. Casa rolled her eyes, but didn’t respond to her uppity gold.

RE: 739.04.16 | Proper Ladies - Ambrya - 18.Apr.18

We'll go to the beach again tomorrow, won't we?

Ambrya sighed as she worked on a golden satin-stitched flower she was embroidering on the mulberry cover she had recently made for Tesamyth's couch. She had finished dinner early and had decided to do a little sewing and perhaps socialize with the other goldriders. As she was the first in the room where they spent most of their free time, she had been able to choose a chair that was directly in the path of a glowbasket's light, which she needed in order to clearly see what she was doing.

We've gone almost every day for the last three weeks, she said. Aren't you getting tired of the ocean?

I love to swim, especially now that you can swim with me. The water was finally warm enough for Ambrya to enjoy it and it was always delightful to glide through the sea with her dragon by her side or riding upon her back. Sometimes she was joined by other dragonriders and occasionally, visitors from the holds watched them splashing around together.

Fine, we'll go tomorrow. I guess we should take advantage of the warmth in case it turns cold again.

Satisfied, Tesamyth lapsed into contented silence and Ambrya continued her embroidery, lost in her thoughts until a familiar voice brought her back to the present. She smiled as Casa plopped into the chair opposite hers. While she didn't know the other goldrider well, she found her quite pleasant and had been hoping that they could get to know each other better and perhaps become friends. Casa was not much older than she was and had also impressed at an early age. They at least had that in common.

“I'm embroidering this couch cover,” Ambrya replied, holding up the corner she was working on so that Casa could see. It was about a quarter of the way done, a border along the bottom edge consisting of golden flowers entwined with bright green leaves. “What do you think?”

RE: 739.04.16 | Proper Ladies - Casa - 19.Apr.18

Casa didn’t get to spend nearly enough time at the beach, in her opinion. This was, primarily, due to the fact that her dragon was the reigning ruler of the Anti-Fun Campaign and disliked Casa doing anything remotely fun. Like swimming, and living life, and having friends, and doing anything interesting. I do not, Thallyath put in irritably, I simply expect you to take care of your responsibilities before goofing off like a lowlife green pair. She paused, then added, If you actually did your chores I wouldn’t have to harp on to you about it. Casa allowed that there was probably a point in there, but she was so used to Thallyath harping at her, that she never thought the dragon might stop if she took action on her own.

“Oh?” Casa asked, sitting up properly and leaning forward to see what Ambrya had been working on. “That’s very pretty,” Casa said honestly, reaching out to gently touch the embroidery with her fingertips, being careful not to get it dirty (though her hands were clean!) or accidentally catching a stitch on her nails; unlike many of the more ladylike women she knew, Casa’s nails were a disaster, the girl often breaking them or biting them in boredom.

She grinned as she pulled her hand back carefully. “I’m glad Thallyath isn’t disillusioned enough to expect me to do that for her,” she laughed. Hrmph. You can do one up for me when we have a clutch on the sands, the gold’s tone held a teasing note that let Casa know she wasn’t actually serious. “I blow at doing embroidery.” She confided, her eyes sparkling with good humour.

RE: 739.04.16 | Proper Ladies - Ambrya - 23.Apr.18

Ambrya held her breath as Casa leaned forward to study her embroidery. She knew that her stitches were perfect and her technique was excellent, but it was always a bit disconcerting to show her sewing to other people. It was like revealing a secret part of herself. She exhaled in relief when the other girl said it was pretty and reached out to touch the silky shapes. “Thank you,” she said simply.

You should have more confidence in yourself.

Unfortunately, that's easier said than done.

Not for me. The gold sounded utterly self-assured and Ambrya couldn't help chuckling. She hoped that Casa knew she was talking to her dragon and didn't think she was insane for suddenly bursting into laughter.

“I probably wouldn't be good at it either if my sister had not begun to teach me as soon as I was old enough not to stab my finger with the needle. She's one of the seamstresses here and her embroidery is much better than mine. I remember how strict she was with me whenever I got impatient or sloppy. Now I'm glad she was hard on me. I  make most of my own clothes too.”

She smiled at Casa. “If you;d like, I could embroider a couch cover for Thallyath after I finish this one. Though if she would rather have it embroidered by you, I can teach you. It's not difficult once you get the hang of it but it does take a fair bit of practice.”

RE: 739.04.16 | Proper Ladies - Casa - 29.Apr.18

Casa barely noticed Ambrya suddenly laughing; not because she wasn’t paying attention but because she was used to the antics of dragons and the responses their riders had to them. Growing up around dragons and their riders had prepared Casa for such things as random words, expressions, swearing or laughter. It was just something that came with being bonded to a dragon or being around those who were. She herself was notorious for responding to Thallyath without warning whomever she was around, so she took no offence when others did the same thing.

“That’s pretty cool,” Casa allowed, though she bulked at the idea of Ambrya making Thallyath a pretty couch, almost as much as she bulked at the idea of forcing herself to make it! “That’s okay,” she smiled, “I’d rather you spoil your own dragon than mine, who is far too entitled as it is.” She grinned, clearly teasing her dragon and giving permission for Ambrya to laugh at it if she wanted to. Casa knew some people were pretty jealous about the teasing of their dragons; some people, she’d found, took great offence if you teased them about their dragon. She could be, granted – Only she was allowed to call Thallyath names and pick on her relentlessly – but if she initiated it with someone else, Casa didn’t mind them finding her teasing of her dragon funny!

Casa scrunched her nose up slightly. “I’m not sure I could ever find the patience for such things,” she said honestly. “I applaud those who can, but its just not something I enjoy, you know?” Of course, there wasn’t a lot about being a godlier that Casa enjoyed; it was all so dull. Paperwork and politics and girly Lady stuff. Casa would rather be getting dirty and causing mayhem like the other dragonriders go to do! She could feel Thallayth sighing in frustration at her thoughts, but Casa ignored her dragon and instead grinned at Ambrya. “Are you free at all?” She asked, waving a hand vaguely to indicate the upcoming days, not just tomorrow or at the present time. “We could go down to the beach,” she smiled, “Maybe Tesamyth could coax Thallyath into the water and relaxing,” she laughed again. Her dragon tended to sit like a princess and watch over Casa, apparently worried her rider would drown or get eaten by a water-dragon. Whatever those were.
