739.02.14 | Message Delivered - D'hys - 17.Mar.18

Zeianth wasn’t particularly happy with him at the moment. He had said they would stay with the green pair they had won for a few hours and then changed his mind soon after, causing his dragon to have to untangle himself from the sweet green he was already fond of. D’hys promised he could visit Halomirth anytime they were in Ista which seemed to soothe Zeianth enough for a comfortable flight home as they popped back into Fort’s region and leisurely flew the rest of the way back to the Weyr.

It was already getting late by the time they touched down with most of the inhabitants having eaten and preparing to turn in for the night. But it was still considered early for a Weyrleader that had a habit of working late and D’hys headed right to R’nya’s office to bring back news of what he learned about the kerfuffle between some riders and to deliver the letter. He was honestly more curious about the letter and wanted to know what exactly it contained but as he knocked to announce himself and then let himself in, he knew he’d save it for last, getting his actual business out of the way first.

“I return with your requested news, oh great leader,” D’hys grinned as he came to stand before R’nya’s desk. He had figured out early on that R’nya both loved and hated his position and sometimes he couldn’t help but tease the bronzerider about it with over the top titles. “A bit delayed, I’ll admit, but Zeianth took a shining to a green that decided to have her maiden Flight while we were there and we won so I then had to cuddle with the man. You know how greenriders are,” D’hys was fairly certain greens were more of a handful than golds, though they both seemed to be on the clingy side.

“You were right in suspecting who was the actual instigator. I can arrange for discreet but impressionable punishment, if you’d like,” D’hys offered as he sat down in the visitor’s chair, watching R’nya to see if he had his usual battle of conscience that happened before passing off such distasteful tasks to the willing bluerider.

“Oh, and my new little greenriding friend had been charged with delivering this to you but being the kind soul that I am, I offered to bring it to you,” he studied the folded and sealed paper for a moment before sliding it across the desk to R’nya. “He seemed to think it was important.”

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - R'nya - 17.Mar.18

R’nya looked up with a sigh when he was interrupted – again – by a knock on the door. If it was not Rhaedalyn, he swore on Faranth’s shadow he was going to snap! He hadn’t been able to do much of anything for the past four hours because every time he tried, some bastard was at his door, demanding his attention for some stupid reason that was making R’nya flustered, angry and irritable. All he wanted to do was finish this one little task, go home and eat dinner with his girls, and relax with Rhaedalyn and her beautiful pregnant belly before going to bed. Was that really too much to ask?!

The bronzerider was scowling when D’hys walked in, and the expression did not lift as the bluerider teased him. “Fantastic,” he snapped, lowering his eyes back to the piece of work he was trying to get done. He had honestly forgotten all about D’hys and his task after the bluerider did not come back in a timely manner. He’d probably have been more irked with D’hys, but R’nya was too obsessed with being pissed off about not being able to complete his current task, which was stupidly minor for how damned long it was taking him to get it done!

R’nya blatantly ignored the comment about Zeianth getting frisky and chasing a green, and talk about cuddles and clingy riders. “Fine,” R’nya said irritably, waving a hand slightly. He was in no mood to dance around the subject; they both knew he’d end up passing some kind of punishment on the person in question, it just usually took some bartering to figure out the finer points. In a sour mood as he was, R’nya was feeling slightly vindictive and did not care what the bluerider dished out; D’hys knew the limitations and if he overstepped them, what would happen.

“Oh for fuck’s sake!” R’nya snatched the letter and opened it with a quick flick, unfolding the paper and reading it quickly; it did not take long, it was only a couple of lines. R’nya snorted angrily and scrunched up the letter, throwing it towards the bin to one side. He could feel Xyreith’s amusement, and it did nothing to sooth his bad mood. “Important my arse.” He snapped, scowling. It wasn’t the greenrider’s fault – if he’d been in a better mood, R’nya might have thanked the man for being dumped with the letter that ended up being delivered by D’hys, since it meant he didn’t have to put up with K’tir’s K’tir-ness in his damned office. He was tempted, however, to have D’hys add K’tir to his list of instigators to be punished, but he didn’t want the nosy bluerider asking questions.

Better to just leave it as it was, ignore the bastard brownrider, and go home. His girls would lift his mood, and he could take a hot bath (possibly with Rhaedalyn!) and go to bed. He would deal with everything in his office tomorrow. Taking a deep breath, R’nya expelled it slowly and lifted his scowling gaze to D’hys. “Thanks,” he drawled, running a hand through his hair and then turning to look with fire in his eyes when someone knocked on the door. “What?!” He cringed after he snapped, worried it might be Rhaedalyn and the girls, but was relieved when a weyrbrat peered in, took one look at the pair of them, and bolted.

R’nya sighed irritably.

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - D'hys - 17.Mar.18

Oh this was priceless! R’nya was in quite a mood and while it wasn’t the first time he had seen the Weyrleader so frazzled and cranky, it still amused D’hys to no end. R’nya always tried his hardest to look calm and put together, the perfect picture of a bronzerider and Weyrleader. It kind of lost the effect when he swore, grumbled, and acted anything but like a leader. R’nya was actually doing a damn fine impression of a Harper D’hys remembered from before the plague. The man had offered to stay in the Weyr for a few months to teach the weyrbrats and had left in storm of flying papers and stomping feet when he realised he couldn’t corral them long enough to gain any attention. D’hys could only imagine what teaching brats would be like and sort of felt like leading a Weyr was similar.

His amusement only grew as R’nya scowled and tossed the letter away. Now he was extremely curious! It obviously wasn’t anything on an official level, which meant it was more along the lines of personal correspondence but it didn’t seem like R’nya wanted any part of it. Perhaps he had picked up another mistress, this time in Ista, and someone was playing middle man in passing along notes? Doubtful. That’d be too risky in leaving evidence behind for sweet Rhaedalyn to find when she thought to help out and tidy up.

His ponderings were temporarily halted when someone else tried to barge in. D’hys laughed at R’nya’s bark and the way the kid in the doorway seemed to panic and bolt away. “At least it wasn’t your mistress’ brat you just scared the life out of.” D’hys knew who Quinvalis was as soon as he was told Xyreith had Searched the boy and the boy said he came from Telgar Hold. Why R’nya decided to bring the kid to the Weyr was still a mystery to him and why Rhaedalyn didn’t think it odd and even liked the boy remained one as well.

“Anyway, shouldn’t you send back a reply? Or am I to take it that it doesn’t need one either because it was simply an update or because the person knew it’d make you scowl and toss it away?”

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - R'nya - 17.Mar.18

R’nya scowled at D’hys’ comment. “Quinvalis isn’t that easily intimidated,” he said flatly, knowing the child would have been startled, but probably would have let himself in anyway and tried to see if he could fix the situation. He was a lot like his mother, though R’nya was not sure how he would react to D’hys, since he was not sure how much interaction they had had, if any, and he knew the bluerider could come across as quite intimidating to those that didn’t know him. Probably the boy would have blamed the bluerider and stood stoutly by R’nya until D’hys left. The thought made his lips twitch, before R’nya shook his head and his scowl returned.

“No.” R’nya growled, irritated once more. “The person in question is a troublemaker and I will make their life miserable as soon as I think of something suitable.” To be fair, R’nya rather enjoyed the weird relationship he had with K’tir, though the way it had sprung up caused him no small amount of discomfort. If he had not been in such a terrible mood, he probably would have responded with something appropriately mocking. As it was, he was not in a good mood, he was not going to reply, and he was going to do something to make K’tir temporarily miserable. Itching powder in his riding leathers or something equally childish but satisfying.

Maybe he would rally some weyrbrats to boil Numbweed in his weyr and really stink it out while he sent the brownrider on some silly mission that would keep him away for most the day… R’nya’s expression brightened, plan in place, his lips curving into a wicked smirk as his mood lifted rapidly at the idea. That would work, the brats would have fun, R’nya wouldn’t blamed because he knew several channels he could go through to get it done, and K’tir would be miserable without causing any actual harm. It was perfect!

“Was there anything else?” R’nya asked, schooling his features and eyeing D’hys expectantly. “If not, I have two little girls to tuck in for the night, and a pregnant mate to spoil.” Some people would probably consider such things chores, but R’nya clearly looked forward to all related tasks; screw working late tonight, he’d had more than enough! “Her cooking has expanded greatly since you took to helping her,” R’nya added thoughtfully, raising an eyebrow at D’hys and smiling wryly. “Thank you.” He loved Rhaedalyn more than he could express, but her cooking had left a lot to be desired, even if her desserts were usually fantastic. One really couldn’t live on sweets!

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - D'hys - 18.Mar.18

D’hys bit back the comment about R’nya grooming Quinvalis into a little mini version of him, knowing full well he had already been flirting with danger. If R’nya’s mood was marginally better, he may have gotten away with a bit more teasing but he didn’t want to be added to the list with the mysterious troublemaker that was about to have his life made miserable.

“Well, I was going to suggest you go visit the other one tonight for some rough sex I imagine Rhaedalyn isn’t into, especially while pregnant, to use as a good outlet for the frustration you’re radiating but I suppose a quiet night in will work just as well.” He really didn’t think so. R’nya would likely bottle it all up for tomorrow and hide the stress from his charming mate so he didn’t worry her. Rough sex with a nameless partner or a greenrider seemed much more enjoyable and useful, but to each their own.

The sudden mentioning of cooking and receiving thanks for improved skills successfully caught D’hys off guard, rewarding R’nya with a moment of startled blue eyes before composing himself again and grinning. “It wouldn’t do to have the Weyrleader indisposed with food poisoning brought on by the Weyrwoman,” he teased before honestly confessing, “she’s actually been delightful to spend time with and picking up the lessons quite well. Better than some I’ve tried to teach in the past.” B’jin had given him such a headache with how impatient the man was with waiting for a cake to bake and then letting it cool enough to frost. Rhaedalyn, however, had calmed down since Impressing and having a child, and she was much easier to handle and seemed far more willing to focus and learn. He supposed if someone was going to settle down and be mated, she wasn’t such a bad choice. Knowing Z’ia had broken her in also meant that R’nya likely benefited a lot more in the bedroom than he would have otherwise with a timid holdbred woman. He wondered briefly if the bronzerider had ever considered that.

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - R'nya - 18.Mar.18

R’nya frowned slightly at D’hys’ comment, eyes flashing. “I don’t use women as a means to an end,” R’nya snapped, disgusted by the suggestion. Perhaps he had been that way, many Turns ago when he was an unknowing youth, but he’d grown a lot since those days and the idea of using either Rhaedalyn or Quilriana as a means to defuse his frustration with work made him feel sick. He was glad D’hys didn’t know about his history pre-plague, he couldn’t imagine the comments that would come out of the bluerider’s mouth if he had.

Despite his irritation with the previous comment, R’nya’s expression altered into a look of mild amusement when he caught D’hys’ surprise. He counted that as a win and probably would have smirked about it, but instead he snorted in amusement and shook his head at the comment of Rhaedalyn poisoning him. He wasn’t entirely sure she would have poisoned him, perse, but mostly because the food had a tendency to come out burnt rather than undercooked. He was not sure why, but had a feeling she got distracted or something in the process. Considering how their relationship had blossomed, and the addition of two little girls, it probably took a lot of effort to remember when food needed to be checked on!

“I am glad it is not a chore for you, she seems to enjoy it a great deal.”

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - D'hys - 18.Mar.18

D’hys thought R’nya was sort of using the two women considering it seemed to take at least two to satiate him on all fronts, but he realised his toe had skipped over the line for the night and figured it was definitely time to leave the bronzerider alone. Especially since he was doling out compliments to him and saying how his mate enjoyed the company of another man; even if it was only for cooking lessons. He wasn’t sure he’d have much more to show her anyway given he wasn’t a master in the kitchen himself. Still arguably better than a vast majority in the Weyr though.

“Let me know if you ever want to cook up a surprise for Rhaedalyn and I may lend a hand to you as well,” D’hys grinned, knowing that could almost be an innuendo but also knowing R’nya wouldn’t take it that way. The bronzerider was someone he teased at times and could joke around with but he had never seriously made any move on the man. Mostly because of how straight R’nya seemed to be and D’hys wasn’t a fool to think he’d easily get the other man to bend over for him. They’d have quite a power struggle in the bedroom and D’hys wasn’t about to risk that particular pride.

“I’ll leave you to wrap up for the night so you can go home to your family,” D’hys got up from the chair and tossed a quick glance at the crumpled letter, “Zeianth has earned some down time and an extra oiling for his win today so I’ll be around tomorrow if you need my services.” It was an offer to carry out the punishments that was sort of gifted to him earlier in R’nya’s foul mood but also to help out with the mystery person if needed.

What could he say? He got bored easily and liked looking for excitement.

RE: 739.02.14 | Message Delivered - R'nya - 23.Mar.18

R’nya snorted, but didn’t actually comment on D’hys’ invitation for a cooking lesson. R’nya could cook well enough; maybe not anything fancy or outstanding, but he had certainly managed to feed himself sufficiently during exile and whenever he couldn’t be bothered going down to the Dining Hall at Katila. That said, he could cook to feed his children, when Rhaedalyn wasn’t around and he didn’t want to cart them down to the Dining Hall. Xyreith wasn’t exactly talkative so getting him to order dinner was impossible, and Rhaedalyn’s firelizards most often tailed her. Cooking especially for Rhaedalyn wasn’t something R’nya had ever considered, and he probably wouldn’t ever do so. Not because he didn’t think Rhaedalyn would appreciate it, but because it wasn’t his style.

“Very well,” R’nya accepted D’hys’ offer, but did not add anything to it or make anything of it. He simply waved the bluerider out and turned his attention to tidying up his office, setting things back in their rightful place and yawning tiredly as he did so. He eyed the bin as he walked around his desk, considering it. It was mostly paper, so he upended it on the coals of the fireplace, watching it splutter and smoulder before bursting into flames and spluttering back into coals. R’nya tossed his leftover water from his jug on top of it, poked it, and then left the office, closing the door behind him.

That was different, Xyreith was amused, and R’nya smirked to himself as he wandered down the hallway.

D’hys was far too curious about that letter. The bronzerider was having a lot of fun, half wonder (and hoping, honestly) D’hys would track back and poke through the office to dig up said letter. Which R’nya had just burned to a crisp. Xyreith laughed as R’nya let himself happily into his home and swept his baby girls up into arms, kissing them and greeting Rhaedalyn cheerfully. Fancy the bluerider lifting his mood so nicely!
