Information and Details

After all the rain dumped upon the Weyr during the seventh month, the mountain under which Katila is resting cannot take it any more, and very heavy landslide occurs. The slide comes off the mountain side, and takes out a huge chunk of Katila, as well as the surrounding area and the river they use for drinking water. With the loss of many lives, the Katilan's are once more left as survivors of Mother Nature's wrath.

[+] A chunk of the Gather Square.
[+] Candidate Barracks

Setting:
After the success of the Hatching, and yet another gold, the Katilan's spend the 30th drinking and partying. With booze, and harpers and a night without more than a few scattered showers most of the population are up until a good 2am before they begin to head to bed, many not even to their own. By 4am, the vast majority of the population is fast asleep, snoring and content.

The rumbling sound of thunder is ignored by those not asleep - why get antsy about something that occurs so regularly? - the majority, however, weighed down with alcohol, a night of dancing (and in may cases) a good lay, do not so much as stir. Those in the North most huts are dead before anyone even realises what is happening.

The land slide crushes the majority of Katila's flimsy buildings; meant to withstand wind, and the occasional dragon on their roof, they are no match for the tons of mud, rocks, trees, and other things that come sliding off the mountain in a deadly wave. Those that don't get crushed, are liable to suffocate when their hut is buried. Some few dragons are taken out by the mess, but most suicide when their rider dies, or in a frightful panic of thinking their rider has died.

Dragon keening fight to be heard over the roar of the shifting land.

The Weyr awakens to pure chaos. The world is black in the depth of night, and the land is moving and changing under their feet. Those who can, relocate themselves. Many more lives are lost in the attempts to find safety in all the terror. Dragon and firelizard eyes light the world with terrified colours, while glow stones are scrabbled for by those in the Western huts; what is going on?

Shouts and screams fill the air as individuals fight to survive; dragons keen in bursts - recognising death, but requiring their breath to keep alive, to be of use. Some individuals manage to screw their heads on in the chaos and try to rescue others; some are lost to the insanity of fear and are no use to anyone at all.

The entire North end of the Weyrling barracks is crushed under the weight of the landslide, taking the lives of several newly bonded pairs, while other youngsters are lost trying to save themselves or their fellows. Adult dragons scream to be heard and obeyed; young dragons scream in fear. Terror is everywhere, like a blanket, covering the entire Weyr.

Dawn begins to break over the horizon at approximately 6am. The land stops moving at around 7am, the last of the slide tapering to a close. The Weyr is a mess, a disaster of destroyed buildings, dead citizens, and the occasional dragon. The injured are everywhere, from cuts and bruises through to clearly broken bones. Many have been lost between, but no one has any idea the number of dead they are dealing with.

Shock rocks the whole population, rendering them into a stupid haze of uselessness.
