Overdue Conversations [Ameris] - Vaeyla - 24.Jul.13

Vee had had a long couple of days, hard days, not physically hard, but watching the newest batch of hatchlings running around hurt her heart still and regardless of what K'ton had said a few nights past. The thought of that sent a flush to her cheeks and an embarrassed smile graced her lips as she cleaned up the tables in the dining hall. She caught herself before anyone could ask her about that smile and she pushed it and her thoughts of a certain brownrider away as she finished up her chores.

A while later she was finished with her duties and not feeling like going to bed so she took a walk around the gather square, then sat herself by a rock. She curled up on herself, legs drawn up, arms wrapped around them after fixing her dress skirts. She had her chin on her knees and her dark eyes were watching those coming and going from one place to the next. She didn't have anywhere to really go, or anything to do until she went to bed, but she wondered a bit at where others were off to. She saw dragons landing here and there with and without riders, curling up in the bowl or landing near huts to sleep for the night.

Most of these things she saw didn't bother her, they were things she saw day in ad and day out. In between lessons, and classes, between meals and chores, it never really changed, save for hatchings. That was what currently had her so down. She knew she still had some time, but it still bothered her that she had been taken because she had that something they were looking for, ony to still after all this time, still be a failure. She was always glad to see new hatchlings bonded however, and she was especially glad that Ameris had bonded to a beautiful gold. That trail of thought lead her to think that she really needed to visit with her and congratulate her properly. With everyone being so busy the last few days, falling into new routines of caring for their new bonds, she hadn't had a moment to seek her out and speak with her.

She gave a soft sigh and leaned on the rock some. She watched a few weyrlings lead their dragons off to the barracks and was overwhelmed with sadness again. She would seek Ameris out another day maybe, tonight she doubted she would be the best of company for the young woman.

Omg short and crappy im so sorry I suck at starters!

Re: Overdue Conversations [Ameris] - Ameris - 25.Jul.13

The past few days had been a whirlwind of activity and lessons and one explosive tantrum of epic proportions. She'd learned the proper way to oil her dragon, the proper amount of food Mizeath needed to grow properly and how to sleep around the bulk of a five foot long dragon and a three foot tall toddler. She also learned that calm and collected Mizeath was capable of the most outrageous tantrums. It had been a learning experience to say the least. Most of it she'd already known from being around her father and his brown, Midranth but somethings she hadn't even been aware of. For one, she hadn't realized Mizeath would eat so very much and sleep so very much in the first few days. She'd had an idea, but damned if that little gold couldn't pack away food and sleep the day away. It was like having an infant child all over again. Which in a way it was she supposed.

Tonight was no different really except the later hour. Ameris was attempting to teach Mizeath a better slept schedule so had decided that staying out later would help. She'd done it with Rislan when he was a baby so the theory should be much the same. She was one of the last to leave the dining hall, small gold in tow. She knew Mizeath was tired. Lagging behind with a droopy tail and limp wings but Ameris walked sedately and slowly so the tired dragonet could keep up with her.

They'd just entered the main part of the square when she realized there was someone seated upon a rock. The vague shape looked familiar as she walked closer. It was Vaelya. She hadn't seen her friend since the day of the hatching and rather missed their conversations. She looks sad, Mizeath commented on a jaw cracking yawn. Ameris murmured in agreement as they walked closer still.

She started to reach out to touch Vaelya on her shoulder but decided against it. The woman seemed so deep in thought that Ameris was loath to frighten her. Instead Ameris cleared her throat loudly as she said, "Vaelya? What are you doing out here by yourself?"

Re: Overdue Conversations [Ameris] - Vaeyla - 06.Aug.13

Vee was completely lost in the misery of her own thoughts that she had created, staring off into the distance, when a soft voice brought her from said thoughts. She blinked and was rather surprised when she turned her head in the direction of the voice, to see Ameris and her new gold hatchling standing by her. Her heart constricted slightly as dark eyes fell on and looked over the hatchling, but she took a staggered breath and lifted her gaze once more to meet Ameris'. A small smile slid over her lips, half strained, though she couldn't deny she was glad to see the woman or that she was terribly happy for her, and proud of her as well. She had waited as long if not longer to Impress, and she had finally been found by her dragon. It was funny, Vee thought after a moment, how life seemed to work, and tonight it seemed she was not to hide away from life no matter how much she wanted to, granted she wasn't really trying to hide, she had just not felt the best company for talking to Ameris, or anyone for that matter. At least she wasn't crying...she could hide her hurt from Ameris, better than she could from K'ton at least. Maybe. Crying however, was not something she could hide from anyone.

She stood, not wishing to be rude any longer, brushed herself off, and made herself give Ameris a better smile, it wasn't all that bright, nor did it reach her eyes, but it was better than the half hearted one she had previously offered. "I'm just...", she blinked slowly. What the hell was she doing? Wallowing in self pity and headed for self loathing. What she said after shaking her head slightly was, "Just thinking...nothing important.", she said with a small wave of her hand, trying to dismiss the matter. To further try to derail talking about herself she looked at her friend's bonded dragon and asked, "So, are you going to introduce me?" Her dragon was a beautiful shade of yellow and Vee was certain she would grow into a very beautiful queen. She found her thoughts drifting off to her grandmother, wondering what she had felt all those Turns ago when she had Impressed her Kalesseth. It had been one of the few stories she had never relayed, but there had always been others for her to lose herself in. She missed her grandmother, her MeMe, and wished she had been able to travel south with her. She would have known what she was doing wrong, she would have been able to help, had she not lost most of her mind anyway. She pushed her thoughts away yet again, trying to focus on her friend standing before her.

Ugh short and crappy...sorry :(

Re: Overdue Conversations [Ameris] - Ameris - 19.Aug.13

She was lying. Ameris knew something was bothering her friend, something that put a sad gleam in her eye and a forced smile on her face. She should probably attempt to ferret out what exactly, she had a good idea what it was but she allowed Vaelya the luxury of her secrets. Secrets were a wonderful thing sometimes and Ameris generally kept hers to herself. Very few people knew the full scope of some of her secrets and it would remain that way.

A brightly proud smile overtook her concern when Vaelya demanded introductions. She couldn't help the smile really. She'd walked in a daze of equal parts proud and disbelieving from the moment she had come to gripes with the bright musical personality that was not her own. She still had trouble believing the color of her dragon much less that she had impressed at all. She'd failed so many other times before that she figured the only one who would want her was a green, certainly not a gold. A green simply would not due for you, Mizeath said firmly (for the hundredth time) as she moved around her bonded's legs.

"Of course!" she answered drifting a hand down the warm hide of Mizeath. The young dragon sidled up to Vaelya exhaustion forgotten in the face of a new friend. She extended a nose to give the woman before her a delicate sniff and a sweet lick to the hand. "Vaelya, this is Mizeath," she started as she waved her hand at the dragonet, "Mizeath, this is my good friend Vaelya." Hello, the little gold said softly and sweetly to Vaelya.

Vee smiled warmly at Ameris, she was terribly happy for her even if she couldn't get that happiness to shine in her eyes at that moment. She did however give a soft laugh at the ticking feel that the lick to her hand caused. "Pleased to meet you Mizeath, you've chosen the best in the bunch for sure.", she said with a tone of the pride she felt for Ameris. She had done what she could not, even though she still had some time  left in which to do so. She just couldn't imagine at this stage in her life it would happen. At least she could fall into the life of a kitchen drudge fairly easily, that was something right? She would still be useful to the weyr, and that was what was important. Now if she could make her heart believe her head....

The gentle voice in her head that was not Ameris's gave her a little start. Sure Ironth spoke to her every so often, but even that had taken Turns of being around K'ton to accomplish. The fact that Ameris' gold was willing to speak with her so soon after being hatched and on the first meeting warmed Vee's heart and she gave a much truer smile. "Well hello to you too.", she said, just a touch of emotion in her voice.

"Oh!", she said after a random thought passed through her mind. "What does Rislan think? I bet he is all kinds of excited!", she inquired, thinking of her son as much as she was Ameris' son. They were so close in age she hoped they would grow up to be good friends, and riders together. That made her think that they needed to schedule a day when Ameris' was at least semi free so they could all have lunch together. She would think more on that later though, luckily the turn of conversation, that she had provided, seemed to be lifting her mood, even if only slightly.
