Cooling down and getting out [R'nya] - Peorray - 29.Jun.13

Peorray was seeing red by the time her laundry rotation was done for the day. And, really, nothing out of the ordinary had happened. No one had made fun of or threatened her, or did any of the things that might typically set off someone’s temper. She was fully aware, as she slammed out of her room at a fast clip, that she had no real reason to be so irritated. She also didn’t much care.

Oh, she’d regret it later. She knew that. Be embarrassed, even. But right now her anger seemed entirely justified. Some of the female candidates could be silly bitches and one pair -not a brain between them, she swore- had been chittering aimlessly all morning. She might have ordinarily been able to tune out the voices that were discussing, at great length and volume, all the latest gossip of Katila, but today the voices had wound their way into her ears until all she wanted to do was reach out and slap them into silence.

So before she could give in to the impulse, she decided to grab a couple baskets from the kitchens and look up a certain bronzerider known to play escort for such things.. Berry picking made a lovely excuse for taking herself out of the Weyr today, and R’nya should be able to provide company without being an annoyance.

If he was in, and amiable, that was. Peorray knew she was far from being the only female candidate claiming his attention. She knocked shortly on the door to his hut and waited for a response.

Re: Cooling down and getting out [R'nya] - R'nya - 02.Jul.13

R’nya was writing up reviews; the Weyrleader wanted to know about the current goldriders, and R’nya had found himself with the dissatisfactory task of analysing his two young friends. It was preferable, he supposed, to having to escort the young women into the Weyrleader’s company and leave him to analyse them himself; he was not sure he would like to subject either of the young women to such a time. The Weyrleader was all very good at leading the Weyr, but his methods were not something R’nya would like to see brought down upon either of the young women.

As a result, the knock upon his door was a rather welcome interruption, and R’nya rose slowly from his desk, shuffling his papers into a neat pile and setting them aside; a delicately golden wrought metal feline was placed upon the pile. R’nya still had not come across a proper moment to gift the item to one of the girls, but had found it rather useful as a paperweight in the meantime. Setting the rather plain quill aside, and stopping the inkpot, R’nya pushed his chair in and made his way over to the door.

The silence on Xyreith’s part indicated that the guest was no one of interest to the dragon, which almost guaranteed that it was one of the girls, and R’nya opened the door without worry, taking a moment to examine Peorray’s face with slightly upraised eyebrows. “Bad day, my lady?” He didn’t wait for an answer, as he turned on a bare footed heel and went back into his hut, reappearing from his bedroom with boots and socks in hand. Sitting neatly on the couch, R’nya set about putting them on, glancing up at Peorray occasionally as he did so.

“Did you want to take Xyreith, or just walk?” Standing up, R’nya stamped his feet a couple of times to settle his boots, before moving to Peorray, and gently placing a hand on her lower back to guide her out of the hut.

"Walk." Peorray replied instantly, following the bronzerider's guiding hand out of the hut. Flying might be easier, but she was never all the easy about being a passenger on someone's dragon (Armath possibly excepted). And the point of today was to use up some anger-born energy on physical things that weren't the beating of her sister candidates.

"It wasn't all that bad a day, really." She confessed as they left his hut. "No big disasters or anything like that. It's just that some of the airheads are being especially airheaded today and my patience for nonsense is running a bit short." She was amazed -and a bit envious- that R'nya's never seemed to. Oh, he could get angry. Peorray still remembered very well that misunderstanding about the execuation. But it was never about the small things that might have driven another man crazy to have to deal with.

"So I figured I ought to do something useful and far away from them, and that the kitchens might appreciate having some more berries to work with." She held up the baskets she'd snagged to underline her statement.

“Understandable, my dear.” Xyreith was cackling in the back of his mind; he like Peorray much more than he did many of the other women, most likely because she could be just as happy to belittle them when they were idiots as he was prone to doing. For his part, R’nya was simply glad his dragon was silent and uninterested in talking to others. He hardly needed the great bronze lump encouraging the girls to get toothy with each other, though he could certainly understand a frustrating day!

He nodded when the baskets were held up, deftly snagging his own from her, and neatly linking her arm though his with light movements. Basket hooked on one elbow, and Peorray’s hand on the other, R’nya led her gently through the huts of the Weyr and out towards the Forests, quietly pleased that the chances of his current expedition ending in a tickling match were highly unlikely. His belly might end up full of more berries than the basket, but that was a casualty the kitchens would have to deal with; they would not miss what they never got, after all!

R’nya tossed Peorray a wink as they slipped into the forest, picking up the conversation that he had let die before they began their trek as if it had barely been a few moments silence between them, rather than several minutes. “Some of the young ladies can require extra attention,” he murmured lightly, for some of the girls did indeed have a tendency to try the patience with their airheaded nature! “What antics were the up to that hit your nerves, my lady?” Most of the young women were sweet at heart, and he could not imagine most of them going out of their way to cause issues, though there were a couple he could well imagine enjoying pressing buttons.

They’re women. All they know how to do is press buttons. R’nya ignored his dragon regally, attention wholly upon Peorray.

Some of the young ladies could require extra thrashing, in Peorray's opinion. It obviously hadn't been done enough during their childhood, in a couple of cases. Her own father had been fair, but with the firm notion that everyone did their share of the work. Even the women had their own tasks. There was no room for useless chatterboxes and she'd have gotten her bottom tanned for her if she'd tried that act.

She was reluctant to answer the bronzerider's question, busying herself with starting to strip the berries off of a nearby bush (after a quick check to make sure they were the ones she wanted) with brisk, efficient motions. "They were talking." She finally replied, focused on her task instead of R'nya. "Not just conversation, either. Talking and talking, and I'm not sure they actually took the time to breathe in between words. Sometimes a bit of silence is nice, too."

That was part of what had sent her out here today, the main one and actual trigger to her temper, in fact. But it wasn't all of what had got her temper up in the first place. She just wasn't sure how to phrase the rest of it in a way that didn't make her sound damn insecure.

R’nya’s blue eyes sparkled with amusement as he watched Peorray stalk off to collect berries, the bronzerider following her placidly before beginning the task of collecting his own without comment. As he had expected, every other few berries were diverted, finding their way into his mouth instead of into the basket where they belonged. Likely, he would wind up being scolded by Peorray, but the bronzerider was less than worried about such an event occurring. If she needed to get in his face in order to blow off some steam, than he was certainly prepared to be her punching bag; far better he, than one of the poor girls back in the Weyr proper!

“Aah,” his tone indicated that he had some idea which of the girl’s Peorray was upset with, and it only furthered his opinion that it was better she take her frustration out on him. He didn’t want her to blow up on the poor dears, especially if such an event would likely just end up with her even more frustrated and guilty to some extent over losing her temper. Far better they collect berries. R’nya put some more in his mouth, chewing thoughtfully as he allowed a couple to drop into his basket. It was considerably less full than his companion’s, but that was okay. If he ate all his, he would just steal hers.

You’re baiting her. The dragon sounded amused, and slightly surprised. I am, R’nya returned cheerfully, dropping four or five berries in his basket before picking some more, which he popped between his teeth one at a time. Berries were delicious, and he had a soft spot for them that he was amused had not been exploited yet. Though, considering how several of the girls were struggling to get their bubbly pies to come out edible, not necessarily a bad thing. Either they did not know, or they were loath to poison him.

R’nya sincerely hoped it was the later, and that they’d feed him delicious bubbly pies soon! They need the berries to make the pies. Xyreith pointed out drolly, to which R’nya laughed mentally. Then they won’t send angry girls and hungry bronzeriders to collect them! He nibbled on another berry, before dropping three more into his basket. He was not very good at this task at all! “Silence can be lovely,” R’nya replied lightly, an added bit of emphasis given mentally to make Xyreith bugger off to whatever it was the great bronze had been up to previously.
