732.11.26 | A Perfect Spiral [Future Designs Clutching] - Jada - 12.Dec.12

The evening before had been quiet enough. Krypth, grown egg-heavy and more irritable than normal, had demanded her Bonded's attendance for the entire day, having the goldrider dancing about to accommodate with the nervous anticipation of a first-time grandmother. It had driven Indivara mad, and with a curse and the throwing of a half-eaten bubbly pie, the girl had abandoned the two other females to their 'annoying crap' and stalked off with Shit Head and Blood Sucker clinging to her pants. Jada had protested both the unladylike language and the fact that the pie had knocked her in the head, but both the grouchy bit- well, both Indivara and Krypth had chosen to disregard her complaints, and a firm Shut up and be useful ringing through her head. Really, with friends like Jada's, who needed enemies? Sulking, the Harper had turned her attention back to the small musical piece she had been working on- which she had been quite fiercely informed sounded more like a teaching song than a piece to be performed by adults. She had felt bloated and almost as irritable as her bond mate, the Queen's insistence on sharing her 'pregnancy' sensations with the flat-bellied Jada providing the woman with a constant source of mental and physical indigestion. And shaffit, no one wanted to make her life a little easier. D'ren had gone off and gotten himself poisoned, Tsuen had made herself even less available to Jada than before, S'kef was in D'ren's place (and nowhere near as willing to have Jada underfoot), and- and Jada was afeared she was getting some of Indivara's feistiness rubbing off on her, because she was feeling frustrated.

She had still been sulking when she'd curled up next to the butter-colored dragon on the Sands, in the temporary bedding that she'd had assistance in dragging there so she could sleep next to the demanding Queen. Every time she was about to drift off, Krypth moved; every time she got re-adjusted and started to go back to sleep, Krypth would start snoring. Her belly was clenching and unclenching, and she was restless, and... Klah clung to her shoulder, nibbling at her ear with his small mouth, unforgiving claws digging into her shoulder as he crooned his protest at the way Krypth snapped and bit at him with her mind-voice and batted at him with her tail when he tried to sneak in for a cuddle. The brown flitter seemed to be easily offended, with a shorter memory span than Tsereni. Sighing, Jada closed her eyes and waited for the morning. Clutching would come soon, it had to, and then she would be released back into the wild Weyr to do... whatever it was she was supposed to be doing these days.

That night, sleep came with dreams of falling, heaving, and of fire. She dreamed of the cold and blackness, and eternal night with no light to be seen. She dreamed of weeping, the sound of metal pounding on rock, the clatter of shoes on a wooden floor. And through it all, she could hear grunting and wheezing.

You're in my way. Amber eyes jolted open to the not-so-dulcet tones of her Bonded pouring through her mind like ice water. Their bellies clenched, contracted together, and Jada blinked to recognize the sensation. She blinked again to see that she was laying in the middle of a growing ring of eggs, the dot in a spiral that seemed to be growing ever inward. Move!

"You couldn't have started somewhere else?" Jada protested, scrambling out of her bedding and scooting between two eggs. Krypth grunted at her, body heaving. It was enough of an answer, and Jada reached out to stroke a hand along one heaving, shuddering flank. Immediately Krypth protested; the sensation was too much for her. It burned like fire and coursed through their veins as she expelled yet another egg from her body and nudged it into place. "You're doing lovely." Encouragement. That had to be what Krypth needed!

Shut up!

"You don't have to be snippy about it, you know." With a sniff, Jada stepped around the white-gold body and grabbed her bedding, hauling the blankets a bit away from where Krypth was grunting and straining.

Bugger. Krypth heaved, her head swiveling as she looked over the eggs and the pattern that only she could see. She hummed in mild satisfaction, moving a larger egg around a smaller, pushing one further down into the sand and tilting it at an angle so that it distorted what would have been a perfect spiral shape. Bring that bedding back, Jada, moving it all messed up the pattern.

"Work around it." Jada snapped back. "You told me I got in your way." She sat back in the blankets, scowling at her bondmate as the dragon heaved and shuddered one last time. Eleven eggs dotted the Sands when Krypth finally sighed in relief. None of them were perfectly-shaped, and in fact it was quite charming. There were swirls, and dots, and cross-hatching. One egg was a solid, unbroken white, while another was the same in a creamy caramel color. None were the same, or even remotely similar. They all had personality, dripping off them like mud. Mud wasn't romantic at all, but it was sticky and clinging, kind of like the impression that they left on her mind. "So should I wake up Indivara?" Krypth had promised to call the girl before anyone else, and it didn't seem as though Krypth's little noises of distress had bothered anyone this time.

Not quite yet. It was only now becoming dawn, so Krypth reached out to the clutch sire as she had last time, extending the same invitation. Tyrrisath, I invite you to come greet your progeny before the rest. It was a courteous gesture, more than a tired command. The Weyr would be waking soon, and the surprise would be lost. Now you can go wake Indivara. Make sure you have plenty of klah, you know how she is in the morning. If worst came to worst, Jada could try and drown her in it.

Krypth has clutched 11 eggs.

The red dots are the eggs, and how they are laying out. More detail will come!
