B'jin was twitchy, and had been twitchy all day. He'd woken early, before even a handful of hours had been slept through and slipped quietly out of Talian's bedroom to make his way home, only touching on Larrikith's mind long enough to find her curled up with Ayyonth still. The tiny green was completely exhausted, and B'jin really hoped neither R'nd nor Ayyonth would question her very real need to go hunting the day after she'd been 'hunting' all day. If either had questioned her, it hadn't been relayed to him.

B'jin had then spent the day dodging everyone. It wasn't quite obvious, as he slipped through crowds or turned away just enough to get away with 'missing' a friendly wave or someone attempting to catch his eye. He had, however gone to extreme lengths to completely avoid both R'nd and D'ren, neither of whom he felt he could successfully escape if they attempted to catch his attention - not if he didn't want to end up in the bad books, anyway. He considered both of them good friends and had high levels of respect for them. It wouldn't do to upset either by pretending he didn't see them (besides which, both of them would undoubtedly realise exactly what he was doing. D'ren he could almost guarantee chasing him down. He wasn't quite sure how R'nd would react.)

It took the greenrider only half the day to decide R'nd was probably avoiding him anyway. He had no idea where his dragon was, but the traitorous little green was spending an unhealthy amount of time with her side glued to Ayyonth, so he supposed she was with him. Somewhere. Instead, he kept a cautious eye out for the gorgeous blue. D'ren himself was spectacularly easy to avoid, what with the new arrival he'd received (a girl, according to the gossip). B'jin decided a little girl was perfect for D'ren, and that he should probably start putting Amorandii where Tsuen could try and coax her into something suitably feminine (like tailoring) and hopefully dispel any ideas the growing child might conceive about dragonriding. B'jin would not have his precious little princess on green (and he felt sorry for any Weyr that might get her on gold!)

"Andi. Go. To. Bed." B'jin's voice was a low growl, and he didn't so much as look in the little girl's direction as she stopped, turning to peer toward her father where he was curled up on his stool by his desk. He was drawing, she could tell by the way he was scrunched up. The scent of Klah was strong on the air, and Amorandii wriggled on the spot, swaying so her nightgown danced around her ankles.

"But-!"
"Bed!" B'jin barely got hte single word out, before the knock came on the door, and B'jin frowned, turning around even as his five turn old daughter danced across the room and flung the door open before B'jin could object. Scowling irritably, B'jin strode across the hut and set one gentle hand on Amorandii's shoulder, spinning her around and giving her a solid push toward the bedroom. "Bed!"

Pouting, with her big blue eyes opened wide, the little girl's gaze flickered between her angry looking father and the stranger in the doorway. After  a moment's hesitation, the child spun around and high tailed for the bedroom, the door slamming closed behind her as she leapt onto Indamor's bed and shook him awake. Something was up! An adventure!

B'jin had no idea whom he might have been expecting when he turned to face the door after glaring at the bedroom door to make sure Andi wouldn't come back out. His expression was full of exasperated amusement as he turned around, but it washed out into wide eyed surprise. "J'ver." His expression altered, eyes narrowing and his body shifting to block the doorway, indicating quite clearly that S'kef's slut was not welcome in. "What do you want."

J’ver had spent the time since Rilaleeyth alerted him to Tyrrisath’s finding piecing together everything to figure out what exactly the troublesome greenrider was up to now. Once things started to become clearer and with S’kef’s words to keep an eye on B’jin always fresh in his clever mind, J’ver then went to work on finding the right time to approach the target. If too much time passed, there was a risk of B’jin getting himself caught or confessing to his buddy D’ren directly, or someone else in need of using B’jin could figure it out and get there first. Sharing the target and the prize was never something J’ver was good at.

Once B’jin had settled into his hut for the night, J’ver kept a watchful eye out to see if any visitors would be expected that night. R’nd wasn’t someone he wanted to tangle with that night with what he had planned for B’jin and the bluerider was known to be protective of his friends. They would have to keep an eye on R’nd as well if the plan was to succeed but he could wait for later. It seemed B’jin wasn’t to have anyone over that night nor was he going out. Pleased with that stroke of luck, J’ver finally went in to make his move.

A polite knock was given and confusion set in as it sounded like little feet scurried toward the door. Pale blue eyes went wide at the sight of a young girl opening the door and J’ver involuntarily stepped back in case the brat decided to attack. Why was a child there? His Intel had missed that fact. Not that it mattered. How much could a simple child comprehend? B’jin wouldn’t risk keeping the girl around during their conversation anyway. He was far too protective of his brats to even consider leaving either of them near someone they didn’t trust. Ah, Nemall, was a blessing and a curse to those like him.

Thankfully, the girl was ushered away and business could finally be attended to. “And a pleasant evening to you as well, B’jin,” J’ver kept his tone light and even smiled as he spoke to show anyone that may have spotted him that it was a friendly visit. He wasn’t delusional enough to believe his fellow greenrider would believe it was a social call and there wasn’t a chance to lull the man into a false sense of security. That was always a fun trick to play but it had no place now. “What do I want? North—oh pardon me, nothing much. I was simply curious to know more about what you were up to.” A cock of the brow and a confident smirk followed his silly play on words, daring B’jin to deny what was being hinted at. B’jin was many things but J’ver didn’t believe him to be as stupid as he often came off as. There wasn’t a chance of being turned away since it had to be obvious J’ver would rat him out in seconds.

“Really, now. It’s rude to keep a guest waiting outside.” A step forward was taken to show his intent on staying and going inside to talk.

B'jin had neither the time nor the patience for people like J'ver. The lowest of the low, the Harper felt them to be little if anything more than the reason greenriders were often so badly looked down upon. Pretty little sluts like J'ver, who were willing to compromise anything and everything, blackmail anyone and do anything to get to the top -- but were completely incapable of holding such a position, which, when the colourists had their say, was proven by the simple fact that said men and women Impressed green.

Once upon a time, B'jin had thought himself better than to become someone who aligned with colourist ideals. He wasn't, though he had done a particularly careful job of hiding his bias against browns in particular. Everyone knew Larrikith flew blues seven times over before she'd even look at a brown. An effect B'jin had managed to have on her, at some point in time, and something he greatly appreciated. There were some things he just wouldn't do, and interacting willingly with a brownrider was the highest rated. Interacting with a brownriders willing little brown noser was pretty damn close to second.

B'jin's brown eyes narrowed, the man's expression hardening at J'ver's light and cheerful tone. While he suspected while the man was standing in his doorway, B'jin wasn't about to let the firelizards out of his bag until - Oh shit. B'jin's healthy tan went a sick, pasty colour even while he glared viciously at J'ver. It would be like the stupid green tart to come prancing over to see what he could get out of it. B'jin realised, with mild irritation as he stepped back smoothly from the doorway, that he should have gone to D'ren. J'ver couldn't use what wasn't available.

"Indeed," B'jin purred lightly in response to J'ver's approach, watching with a mockingly mild expression as the other greenrider slipped inside his hut like the slimy little bastard he was. The smaller man was barely past the threshold before B'jin had clicked the door shut just shy of slamming it (he didn't want to call attention to himself - by the children or otherwise). Standing tall, B'jin glared condescendingly down at J'ver.

While similar in height, the slightly older greenrider was notably stockier, and with his arms crossed and face thunderous, he actually managed to look slightly intimidating as he growled out his question once more, though the lack of questioning lilt made it much more a statement of irritation. "What do you want."

J’ver was a smug bastard as he waltzed into the living quarters of the usually private rider though his look turned to disgust as he eyed toys here and there and the general condition of the room. The man lacked in any sense of style! However, that wasn’t the point of the visit and it would only serve as a distraction if he lingered any longer on their surroundings. Turning back to face B’jin, J’ver was a bit startled to see the man doing his best at looking fierce and intimidating. It worked well enough for the moment it caught J’ver off guard but that was quickly replaced by irritation at how little he seemed to affect B’jin. What did anyone see in this man! Such a cold individual that thought he was so much better than everyone else because he was D’ren’s pet greenrider. Despicable!

Keeping his composure was a key factor to this meeting and J’ver let B’jin’s attempts at being an aggressor go by without any further ado. After all, he dealt with S’kef on a daily basis and that was a man that knew how to be an intimidating aggressor by simply asking for another drink. So J’ver simply shrugged and waited several moments before answering, opting to glance around the hut again in the hopes of annoying B’jin. Finally, he gave an answer with his gaze returning to his fellow greenrider. “Your assistance, of course. You seem to be rather good at sneaking around and being where you shouldn’t be.” Again he didn’t flat out say what he knew about B’jin’s trip North, just hinting enough to keep the man on his toes and wondering how much was truly known. Not that it mattered; knowing the jovial rider had broken a rule and gone North for any reason was enough to get him grounded for months and possibly even under house arrest. Unless, of course, D’ren was in a bad mood and went with another outlandish amount of lashings again.

Now that he was settling back into his groove of blackmailing someone, J’ver was relaxing and the thrill of the experience was rising. He boldly invited himself further into the hut to sit on the couch, crossing his legs and sitting primly as if he were the actual owner of the home, welcoming B’jin as the guest. “Please, sit. Business deals always run more smoothly when both are comfortable.” A slow, arrogant smile lifted his lips. “But you will likely deny such an offer so let’s get into it. You help me gather some information on a few people and I’ll make sure dear D’ren learns nothing of your extracurricular activities.”

The irritation was rolling off the greenrider in waves as he glared at J'ver's back, the other greenrider obviously too busy scrunching his nose up at B'jin's home to notice the home owners disgruntled attitude. That faded slightly at the startle and irritation his stance caused J'ver when the little snake finally turned to face him. B'jin's own attitude changing subtly, a sly smirk flickering over his lips as he glared down at J'ver with smug satisfaction. While deeply worried by what it was J'ver obviously had in mind, the blonde rider wasn't the slightest bit intimidated by the man himself.

He let J'ver's stickybeaking go uncommented on, though his cheek twitched where B'jin's jaw was clamped shut in irritation. B'jin hummed a non-committal sound as J'ver spoke, eyebrows drawing down as his eyes narrowed suspiciously. J'ver was a slippery little bastard, and being unsure of exactly how much he knew, B'jin was reluctant to say or do anything. Obviously, he knew or at least suspected enough to cause hassle and undoubtedly knew B'jin well enough to know he couldn't lie to save himself. If D'ren heard even a whisper of what he had done... A shiver crawled down B'jin's spine but he made no visible acknowledgement of the action or his own inner thoughts. Instead, he pursed his lips angrily as J'ver slunk across his living room and claimed the couch, acting for all the world like he owned the place. B'jin stiffened in outrage for a moment, glaring at J'ver when he spoke. After a moment, however, the greenriders entire attitude relaxed visibly when J'ver finished speaking.

"Do mind the wet spot." B'jin purred sweetly, his expression a perfect image of childish innocence. One of the children had spilt redfruit juice on the couch when he was bringing them dinner earlier that evening (he had his suspicions about which, but he actively encouraged their team work to get out of trouble, much to their mothers' irritation) and it had yet to dry. B'jin sorely hoped his luck was at least good enough to have the slimy little slut sit in it.

"To what end?" B'jin asked, almost conversationally, when J'ver had resettled, highly amused.

[sup]I assumed that whether or not J'ver actually sat in the spill, he's going to look to see where it is. I was going to leave off the last sentence, but I wanted to push the thread along.[/sup]

The confident expression J’ver held as he waited for a reply was quickly replaced with dismay as a hand helped lever him up to hover above the cushion while the other checked for wet spots. A shriek was barely contained and turned into an audible gasp of shock as fingers ran over a damp area on the cushion and then to his ass where a small area of his pants let it be known that he hadn’t entirely missed the spill. He hoped it was a spill anyway. Given there was some young female spawn visiting, J’ver couldn’t say for certain if she had dropped her juice or wet herself. With his mood soured, J’ver sat back down and resumed his casual position, now uncaring that he was sitting in something bound to stain. What did it matter when he had already made contact? B’jin shouldn’t have pointed it out, though, as now the younger greenrider had his claws fully extended.

“You’re in no positions to ask questions, sweet B’jin. You only need to find incriminating evidence against a list of bronze- and brownriders and report your findings to me and our precious Weyrleader will never know how fascinated his pet green is with Northern possessions.” J’ver ran his hand back through his short dark hair, wondering not for the first time if he should grow it out again but waved away the thought as he normally did. Any longer and S’kef had a better hold on it during their rougher play and J’ver did ever so love holding some sort of power over everyone he dealt with.

Now was no different with B’jin and a soft and very amused chuckle rumbled as J’ver added a little extra incentive to the mix. “Speaking of possessions, and you will love this part, if you don’t assist me and give true and accurate facts, Talian may find it hard to heal others as he’s too busy working on himself and R’nd’s pretty little smile will only continue to exist in your mind.” One was a cranky Northerner and the other a troublesome bluerider. It would be easy enough to find reasons to discipline them both publically with legitimate reasons or simply let S’kef work off some steam against them in private if he so chose. Whatever method, J’ver doubted B’jin would let harm befall either man, but just in case, a casual glance to the bedroom where that little girl must be hidden away was given before pale blue eyes returned to B’jin with a quirk of a brow and arrogant grin was given.

As fun as it would be to drag out their encounter and harass the other greenrider a while longer, J’ver needed that information as soon as possible and this was something he wouldn’t keep S’kef waiting on despite the games he played with the brownrider.

B'jin's eyebrow arched slightly, more amused than intimidated by J'ver's apparent cattiness as the other rider began his little rave. In no position to ask questions? B'jin disagreed, but held his tongue for the moment as he instead continued to watch J'ver, letting his disgust and irritation with the younger man transform into an almost spiteful amusement at the fact that he had managed to sit in the wet spot. The smallest things often brought the most pleasure. Perhaps he'd buy Amorandii a small presen - what?

Not having heard a word of what J'ver had said about reporting incriminating details about the bronze and brownriders since his mind was wandering down smug plans to get Andi a small gift for her delightfully unknowing attack against J'ver, B'jin was completely startled as J'ver seemed to suddenly come out of no where with his threat against Talian and R'nd; it was Talian's name that brought B'jin out of lala land and back to reality. The attack against his friends ruffled B'jin visibly, especially since he had no idea what it was he was required to do to prevent it, or where it had come from. He should have known better than to let his mind wander while in J'ver's company, and that alone irke the Harper more than he would admit. However, when J'ver threw a look towards the bedroom door behind which Amorandii and her brother were safely kept, B'jin saw red and the little hairs over the back of his neck stood up on end.

It took the greenrider three strides to cover the distance between himself and the man on his couch. B'jin covered the distance swiftly, leaning down into J'ver's space he planted his hands firmly on either side of the other, knuckles white as he gripped the backing. "Touch my kids," B'jin hissed, his face so close to J'ver's he could have counted the man's eyelashes if his furious brown gaze hadn't been locked on the other man's. The greenrider was trembling with fury at the implied threat, eyes burning and teeth clenched as his breath hissed between them.

He didn't continue by articulating exactly how much damage he would do to the younger greenrider if any harm befell his children, but the trembling fury that rolled off of B'jin at the very implication of such a thing should have made it more than clear. He was only holding himself back because J'ver hadn't specifically threatened them. The implication was more than enough to rile B'jin up however, and he held his heated gaze on the other greenrider for a breath longer before shoving backwards, and stalking across the room, spine stiff, his pace swift and jerky as he attempted to control himself and somehow get J'ver to repeat whatever it was that had sparked the threats. He certainly wasn't about to admit now that he hadn't been paying a lick of attention previously!

Despite his dealings with much larger and angrier riders in the past, J’ver still held his breath as B’jin’s fury showed itself and the greenrider moved in dangerously close. In the end, it turned out J’ver didn’t have much to worry about and smirked at how quickly B’jin backed away once more with his threat hanging in the air, incomplete. There wasn’t a doubt that B’jin would act on whatever came to mind in order to keep his spawn safe but J’ver’s point had been made and all he had to do was simply glance in the direction of the female terror. The power that knowledge held was delightful and J’ver savoured it before finally filling the silence that followed the threat.

“I don’t recall saying a word about children, my dear B’jin,” he supposed Talian counted in a way given the older rider’s fascination with the Healer but J’ver ignored that minor detail. “You simply need to give me information on some people and no one need never cry, bleed, or turn their back on you.” J’ver didn’t know, and likely wouldn’t have minded, that he unwittingly gave B’jin the objective he had missed, saving the man from having to ask for instructions. The only objective that night was to gain B’jin’s assistance, possibly with some information right off the bat to sweeten the moment. After all, weren’t Harpers trained for fact-finding and gossip-whoring? This should be an easy task for the greenrider and not a hair would fall out of place on the pretty heads of R’nd or Talian.

Getting to his feet, J’ver couldn’t help but wipe at the damp spot once more. He truly hated kids and the lack of consideration they had for anyone else. A mental note to soak his pants when he returned home was made as his attention went back to B’jin. “I don’t foresee any issues with this task and I’ll be checking up with you regularly to gather what you have collected for me.”

B'jin threw J'ver a vicious look when the other man made his smug comment, eyes burning furiously as he bristled visibly. B'jin was someone that would take anything dished up and laid on him, and probably end up agreeing that he'd deserved every heaping of it to boot. His children, however, were the exception to his rule and B'jin would not let anyone wipe their feet on his spirited little daughter or quietly arrogant little boy. They were his single button, and it was the size of the southern continent and painted bright red for those that found it. J'ver may have found it, but B'jin had no intention of letting the little slime ball actually push it.

The fuel behind the threat followed shortly after, and before B'jin could act on the sudden desire to physically throw J'ver out of his hut and slam the door in his face. Instead, the greenrider's shoulders stiffened and his brown eyes narrowed into a suspicious glare as he stared J'ver. B'jin's lips pursed and he rocked back onto his heels, arms crossing over his chest. He studied the smaller man as he stood up, watching with dark amusement the way he brushed his hands over the area that had been affected by Amorandii's spilt drink.

"Which people," B'jin asked, his tone quiet and calculating as he considered the position he stood in, gaze shifting with a flick to the door to the bedroom as he touched against Larrikith. The little green dragon wasn't home, but she was still able to answer his unasked question. They're awake. Indamor is trying to get Andi to go back to bed. "BED, ANDI. NOW." The sudden bellow was met with a startled squeal from the other side of the door and a patter of feet. B'jin's gaze returned to J'ver, irritation still clear within though it was aimed at the man and not the child; whether J'ver knew or realised that B'jin cared not.

"What kind of information?" His voice was a low murmur now, conscious of the awake children and the presence his dragon was presenting at the forefront of his mind. All three were prone to gossiping when they shouldn't, even if they didn't realise what it was they were even saying. Larrikith would keep her thoughts to herself, but the children were another matter.

Either way, B'jin was not about to give up more information than he needed to to get out of trouble. Being a 'lowly greenrider' was both an advantage and a disadvantage, as much as being D'ren's pet was and B'jin was pretty sure J'ver was in much the same position being as everyone was aware he was S'kef's toy, though unlike J'ver, B'jin had been in all the wrong circles before he'd ended up genuinely liking D'ren. The fact that his initial investment in the man had been to gather facts was not something B'jin was about to release.

J’ver rolled his eyes at the bellowing for a kid to go to bed. The domestic life was most certainly not for him and the greenrider that barely refrained from grimacing in disgust decided then and there it was time to end negotiations and letting B’jin assume he had a choice in the matter. He was dragging things out too long now, which made it seem like B’jin was trying to stall in order to find a way out of the trap he had set himself up for. J’ver could respect the tactic; if it was used by someone far cleverer. B’jin didn’t seem like he had a lot of practice in such traits. No doubt the pretty little pet got away with everything by simply smiling and batting big innocent eyes at the upset party.

“Bronzeriders and brownriders who like to pretend they are impervious to dirt. We both know that’s not true. Everyone has at least one spec of dirt on them they’d like to have continue going unnoticed.” The information was given as if he was discussing dragon bathing or preferred oil scents; nothing out of the ordinary and simply casual chatter. J’ver moved to the door to make his leave but came up short of actually opening it and slipping out into the night so he could turn back to face B’jin. “The more swiftly you bring me useful information, the more of a guarantee your hide, and that of R’nd and Talian, stays intact.” His tone was still jovial in the casual tone he had affected. Blackmailing really did bring out the best of moods in him.

B'jin's lips twisted into a silent snarl at the sleazy little greenrider's arrogance as he slinked through B'jin's home, and it was all the Searchrider could do to resist shuddering and tossing he slimeball bodily from his hut. No one - no one! - came in his home and threatened his children! Nostrils flared as J'ver continued to explain what it was he wanted, answering B'jin's questions with that same slithering manner and the greenrider's eyes narrowed suspiciously. While he didn't doubt that J'ver wanted the information as soon as possible - whatever his reasons for seeking it - B'jin was unsure if he should go with the 'right this minute' soon, or the 'come back in three days' soon. Both had advantages, both had distinct disadvantages. In the end, he chose to go with the 'now', in the hopes of avoiding having to put up with J'ver again. Scrunching his nose, B'jin spoke.

The accusations seemed to come from no where as he named two brown and two bronze riders that had been in on the burning of Tsuen's hut. He said nothing but names and that which was the dirt, keeping to himself how he had come across such information or why he had not given it up previously. Then there was the brownrider that pilfered the wine cache and sold skins to the younger brats for various kinds of prices (pretty much amounting to whatever they would pay, and very few of them honorary), the bronzerider that had two greenriders and a bluerider under his thumb (for undisclosed reasons) and how he used their services to get what he wanted from various corners of the Weyr, and that two of them had taken Lashings getting him things he wanted. The brownrider that had been making unsolicited moves on one of the young green weyrlings despite current probations, and another brownrider that was causing mischief in the bathing houses, mostly by inappropriate attentions to women that were attempting to simply stay hygienic. (Not that B'jin expected any different from brown riders. That went unsaid, but was written in the disgust on his face).

"Now get out, and leave us alone." While the words were said flatly and dryly, there was no mistaking the glint of anger in the greenrider's eyes or the way his jaw tightened as he waited for J'ver to do as he was told. To thread and between he was letting the slimy little slut get the better of him, or have his kids or friends wind up in his grasp because the stupid little tart was on a power trip. For the moment, however, B'jin kept his lips sealed on the one thing he knew would really spark up a reaction in J'ver; He had no intention of spilling the dirt he had on S'kef unless it was seriously called for, and he didn't want J'ver to know he had it any more than he wanted S'kef aware he might be pushed to reveal it.

Some things were better left right outside the line of vision.

J’ver hadn’t expected B’jin to share anything that night, especially not such a long list. As startled as he was when the man started rattling off names and crimes, J’ver listened carefully, committing each man and sin to mind. It was amazing how much a greenrider could accumulate because the bronze- and brownriders didn’t pay them much attention. They could be in the same room together, even at the same dining table, and still be overlooked while they absorbed all the information and gossip floating around them. It was a good thing B’jin was good at collecting dirt since it was his only ticket to guaranteeing D’ren didn’t find another outlandish punishment to try on him.

Arms were crossed over his chest with one hand resting fingers lightly on his chin as J’ver nodded through the sharing of secrets. Such fascinating secrets! These would be highly useful and J’ver looked forward to bringing S’kef his own results of knocking these men out of contention for the Weyrsecond position. As pale blue eyes took in B’jin under a new light, the craftier greenrider couldn’t help but pity the way they may have been cohorts at some point if things had been different. They could have ruled the weyr together with their abilities to gather dirt and use it to their advantage. Unfortunately B’jin liked to think he was better than everyone else and wouldn’t stoop to such levels unless he absolutely had to and usually for his loved ones. It was rather disgusting and J’ver worked to keep from frowning at the loss.

“A very nice start, my dear B’jin. This information will be put to good use and you will never be mentioned as the source, never you fear.” J’ver was underhanded and did everything he could to come out on top but he preferred not to rat out his informants; at least not until they had fully run their course of usefulness. Smiling in pure delight at the success of the trip, J’ver decided now it truly was time to depart and let the foolish rider reflect on his actions and what he had brought down upon himself and loved ones. J’ver didn’t worry about B’jin going to D’ren or even the two men he had threatened since as foolish as B’jin was, the man still held some common sense about him.

As he opened the door, J’ver turned back to B’jin one final time to give his parting words, “thanks for the fun chat, B’jin. I’ll see you around.” No time frame was given, no details at all, save for the promise that J’ver would be keeping an eye on his fellow greenrider and seeing him again, and soon, to get more information from him. With his pleased grin back in place, J’ver slipped outside, already making plans on how best to use his new information.
