V'lia gave a soft moan as her eyes fluttered open to a dark room and clear thoughts were hers once more. Another Flight so soon? Tiath had Flown for the first time in month ten and it seemed she liked it enough to want to do it again six months later. The minx. I would hardly say Flying twice a year is worthy of such name calling, Tiath replied in a huff but V'lia felt the contentment through their bond at having a good male curled up with her which also made her content and without energy to bicker, even playfully.

Despite feeling an arm draped over her stomach, V'lia was able to give a good and needed stretch, arms lifting above her head and even her legs and toes trying to get in on the action. Sometimes she felt like a feline when she gave such a mighty stretch and maybe sounded like one as well with the mewl of pleasure that escaped. That always felt so good! That thought made her pause as she slowly lowered her arms with a frown. But it shouldn't feel so good after a Flight. It didn't matter if it was Tiath's Flight or one that A'dis was stumbling home from so they could enjoy the flightlust together; she was always sore afterwards from strong hands and a good rough fuck.

She took a moment to assess herself with light pokes to her arms, stomach, and thighs while noting her back and ass seemed fine since she was lying on them. She had some tender spots but nothing that had V’lia worried about bruising or playfully ordering A’dis to carry her to a hot bath. So who was on the list of dragonriders that were deemed safer and gentler? R’nd had always been at the top of every greenrider’s list but the body beside her and the arm she had cautiously poked during her investigation didn’t match the man’s size. V’ler? That seemed more likely as he was shorter and lither than a lot of men in the Weyr.

And V’lia had been in the weyr he shared with V’ra when the Flight happened so maybe Veeth had a jump start and got a win. It at least explained where she was as the faint outline of furniture she could now make out as her eyes adjusted to the darkness came into view. You are close yet so far from the truth, my dear. Try again but with a little more focus this time. V’lia scowled into the darkness as Tiath used even a Flight as a lesson and demanded more from her.

With a sigh and roll of her eyes, V’lia decided it was easier to just glance at the shape beside her as her fingers lightly walked up the arm draped over her. “Wake up, darling,” she sang in a soft voice, preparing to twist and lean over to kiss her lover on the cheek or forehead but the moment was quickly ruined as she laughed and caught what her dragon had meant. It wasn’t V’ler that had won but the other occupant of the weyr and the one she had been there visiting—V’ra. It seemed Venseth had found some interest and put in a rare appearance for a Flight and won. She was willing to bet that among other reasons, he only entered when it was a sure win but V’lia couldn’t fault that logic.

Well, regardless of Venseth’s reasons, this was something new and unexpected and V’lia wasn’t quite sure how to proceed since V’ra was not only ranked above her by dragon but she was also her boss. Reviewing lesson plans was the reason she was even there to begin with.

The wakeup call wasn’t really heard, but the laughter was and Indivara stirred with a soft moan, her eyebrows furrowing her scarred features together as her eyes fluttered open. The headache she’d been trying to ignore while they worked on lesson planning was gone, and she had that languid, relaxed feeling through her body that she didn’t feel very often. It took the purring satisfaction coming from her dragon to realise he had won a Flight, and she resisted the urge to groan out loud. Instead, Indivara was trying to figure out how she would sneak away from her impromptu bed mate, when her brain caught up to the fact that someone had spoken. And had laughed.

Indivara’s eyes flashed open, and she stared up at the dark shadow above her, jerking sideways on the bed slightly at the proximity. She could see the whites of the greenrider’s eyes catching what little light was available in the dark room. Indivara’s nostrils flared as she took in a calming breath; she didn’t particularly enjoy waking up to people looming over her, but was reassured by the darkness. Indivara was still painfully shy about people who were not Val (and honestly, sometimes even Val) seeing her scarring. At least in the lightless confines of the bedroom, there was no way for her companion to see anything interesting.

“Hello, Vessaelia,” Indivara drawled, pulling the bedding with her as she sat up; she didn’t take it away from V’lia so much as she made sure her own chest and lap were covered. Just because the other woman wouldn’t be able to see anything in detail didn’t mean Indivara was at all interested in flashing her tits around. Indivara gave an irritated sigh, and leaned over, realising as she did so that she was on Val’s side of the bed, not her own. She fumbled with the draw to his beside table, and finally pulled out a small glowing stone. It didn’t light up much by itself, but it did cast enough light that they would be able to find their clothing. Or at least, V’lia would be able to find hers, since Indivara didn’t plan to move until the other woman was gone.

I really don’t think she’s interested in gawking at you, love. Venseth said mildly, and Indivara frowned at nothing as she laid the stone on the pillow that was hers, but was by V’lia. Her hand then moved to comb her hair back from her face; the long strands were a tangled mess, and it took her a moment to fish out the leather tie that was trying to keep doing its job by pulling her hair back. Released, the long black strands helped cover her shoulders and upper back, and Indivara felt much more comfortable with the extra layer of protection from prying eyes.

Indivara’s own gaze shifted to look around the room; with the added light source, she could see more of the area and her nose crinkled at the mess. Granted, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been, but it was hardly the tidy room it usually was, either – though she was hardly tidy herself, it was mostly Val that kept things organised. She wondered idly how many other riders Val had had to corral out of their home. Had Veeth given chase? He usually did. Did that mean Val had found himself a lover while the girls were busy celebrating their dragon’s entanglement? Indivara’s lips pursed slightly.

Veeth Chased, Venseth said lightly, and Indivara could hear the fondness her blue had for his companion, combined with his gentle regret at the elder blue not winning, mingled with his own pride at capturing Tiath. Venseth didn’t say one way or the other, which left Indivara wondering if Veeth had gone to find companionship at someone else’s weyr that didn’t include the green he hadn’t won, or if he was sulking on the other side of the ledge. And V’ler is at his desk. Indivara blinked.

Venseth didn’t know if his human’s mate had found companionship while he was busy winning the lovely Tiath, but he did know that there were no other visitors in their home, now, and he gently soothed the jealous irritation that was spiking off his rider. She did her best to ignore it, and hide it even from herself, but Venseth wasn’t stupid, and knew it upset her a great deal when V'ler slept with other people. It didn’t matter if it was because Veeth won – that was to be expected, and V’ra accepted such things with unusual grace – but when Veeth didn’t win, and V’ler slept with someone who wasn’t Indivara, the woman got… snippy.

“Well,” Indivara said at last, turning her attention back to V’lia with an arched eyebrow, “You could have done worse. Some greens Fly every other month.” Indivara was so glad she wasn’t a greenrider, but she was especially glad she wasn’t bonded to a green like that. Or a Veeth. She didn’t know how Val kept from going insane with how often the little blue dragon would take off after another pretty tail. Venseth was a nice, relaxed dragon. He gave chase occasionally, but usually only when he really felt that special itch.

She should have expected that reaction, knowing how V’ra got about her appearance. The bluerider had never said anything about it but V’lia had picked up on little moments since taking the Assistant position. V’ra was extremely tough and liked to scare Candidates with stories of her scars but V’lia also saw a flicker here and there of doubt and the insecurities that had to come with being so visibly marked. She couldn’t understand it, only knew she wouldn’t handle it well herself, and let the matter be without ever addressing it.

It was why when V’ra moved and tried to keep covered, V’lia casually pushed the sheets in the same direction. She had no issues with being left on display in a darkened room or in general honestly. Perhaps once, long ago when she was still a Holder trying to be the best wife material she could be. But now that she had found the freedom to be herself and celebrate what she discovered, V’lia simply couldn’t bother with being modest anymore—much to Tiath’s frustration. “Hey, boss,” V’lia replied casually when V’ra acknowledged who she was with, leaving the greenrider smiling and more at ease. She was glad they were skipping over the dramatics she’d heard so much about when some pairs first came out of the Flight and she’d been lucky two for two now.

“Honestly, given her insistence on being ladylike, I would have laid down marks on her being once a turn,” V’lia was still smiling, happy to talk about Tiath’s apparent schedule while V’ra tried to make herself more comfortable. But it became clear that talking wasn’t really what the bluerider was interested in and cuddling after sex likely wouldn’t be appreciated either. The smiling turned into a pout but she didn’t say anything about it. Not everyone was into physical contact or as open about partner swapping even if the dragons were at fault for it. A’dis would step in once she went home. He was an excellent cuddler—among many other delightful things—and would probably even help with that hot bath if she asked for one.

Honestly, with how chilly it started to feel in the room, V’lia would also lay marks down on V’ra wishing she would just go away so they could pretend the Flight never happened. That was a bit rude and she wasn’t a fan of being dismissed like that but V’lia knew she was only speculating on what could be in the bluerider’s head and that it probably wasn’t done with the intentions to hurt any feelings. V’ra just wanted to be left alone and since it was her room, lingering greenriders made it hard to do that.

She brushed her hair all over to one shoulder, though she knew it wouldn’t help contain the waves that would have gone wild with the night’s activities. But it would help her see when hunting for clothes, which V’lia did as she grabbed the glow from the pillow and slipped out of the bed. A glance showed her the clothes seemed to have come off in a mad dash by the door and that was where V’lia headed, body on full display since she didn’t want to fight over a blanket and then cling to it while holding the glow stone and then trying to dress with all of that.

Given her friend’s discomfort, V’lia actually focused on sorting their clothing, setting V’ra’s on the bed within reach of the bluerider if she chose to dress again. “I’m sorry the Flight happened in your home,” V’lia’s voice was soft yet genuine. She hated the idea that she invaded someone’s space and that a mess would be left behind. The bedroom didn’t look too bad but she hadn’t seen the main living space where more riders would have been. Were any still out there? Maybe she could scare some off before she left so V’ra wouldn’t have to deal with them.

“But I am glad you and Venseth won,” V’lia went on as she found her pants and finally set the stone back down on the bed so she could begin dressing. “The memories are fragmented and mostly from Tiath’s view, but what I saw and felt was passionate and lovely. So thank you for Flying with me.”

Indivara snorted at the comment about Tiath being a lady. “Even Ladies have needs,” Indivara smirked, feeling considerably more relaxed after V’lia had pushed the sheets towards her but made no effort to follow them. Indivara had long gotten the need for Flight sex out of her system; she’d done a lot of flight mothing when she was younger, long before she’d Impressed or settled down with Val. Mothing, though, had the added benefit that she’d been able to jump her choice of rider, have a quick fuck, and vanish before they woke up enough to take stock of who they’d been with, never mind studying her scars. Being a flight winner didn’t have that luxury.

Indivara glanced at V’lia with wary curiosity when she felt the bed shift. She nodded slightly at V’lia’s back as the younger woman picked up the glow and started ambling around the room. Indivara turned her attention to her hands, which were still gripping the sheet up under her chin, her hair splayed all around, because she didn’t want to be rude and stare at the greenrider in the same way she was afraid of being studied. That would be rude, and while Indivara was not opposed to being rude or being a hypocrite, she had her own personal limits that were carefully drawn lines she wouldn’t cross. Only Val would she openly admire, and even that had taken years of work to become comfortable doing.

“Thank you,” Indivara said softly when her own clothing were brought and placed on the bed near her. As V’lia apologised for the Flight’s location, Indivara cautiously slipped out from under the blanket and pulled her undergarments on, and then her pants and her shirt. She didn’t bother with her socks, or with binding her breasts down like she normally would have if it were earlier in the day; it was getting late, now, and while they still had a lot to go over for the Weyrling lesson plans, Indivara wasn’t sure if they’d continue once they returned to the main room, or if V’lia would excuse herself. But either way, Indivara also knew a bath was in her near future. And clean bedding. Val might have been the tidier one between them, but Indivara was an obsessive clean freak when it came to body, clothes, and bedding.

Finally shrugging slightly, Indivara offered V’lia a crooked little smile. “Better here than making a mad dash out of someone else’s weyr.” She was still prone to dying of absolute horror when she remembered some of the places she’d come to at before. Like C’dhin’s bed. Val hadn’t been concerned, because of course he hadn’t, but Indivara had been absolutely mortified. It hadn’t helped that he’d walked in on them actively having sex, and interrupted them, and not just… when they were snuggling or something. Indivara felt her face heating up as the memory came back, and she pursed her lips as she shoved it away. Sure, that had been when her and Val had actually ended up as more than just bed mates. But it was still mortifying.

Indivara raised an eyebrow slightly at the pleasure of Venseth – and by default, Indivara – winning Tiath’s flight. She was trying to find the right words to answer that particular statement with, when V’lia continued and Indivara felt her whole face (and probably her whole body) light up in embarrassment at the words. It wasn’t that Indivara was unaware she was passionate – she was very passionate, usually about being right or causing trouble. But she knew she was definitely passionate in the way V’lia meant, but only with Val, and the idea of being like that with someone else was – once again – mortifying.

“You’re welcome?” Indivara squeaked, trying not to squeak but her voice definitely broke in there somewhere, and she could feel Venseth’s amusement as he wrapped her up in loving affection that really didn’t help Indivara feel any more in control than when he had been focused on his green lass. Indivara was trying to remember the last time Venseth had won a flight, but in all honesty, she couldn’t remember him winning a flight of someone she knew on a personal-friend level. Mostly she could just scowl at any greenrider, and her reputation would proceed her and she’d be left alone to get dressed and go about her day. She really had no idea how to handle V’lia and her compliments and her friendly familiarity.

Indivara cleared her throat, and folded her arms across her front, more comfortable with looking at V’lia now she was dressed, even if the greenrider’s hair was still a bit mussy and she definitely had the airs about her of someone who had been laid. “You’re welcome to stay, and we can continue where we left off,” she waved one hand towards the door, indicating the lesson plan they’d been working on. She folded her arms again, and her teeth flashed in a sudden smile. “Val will get us some food from the kitchen,” if he hadn’t already. Sometimes he was really good at anticipating. Sometimes he didn’t care. Sometimes he was obsessed with his ink and parchment. “But I won’t keep you if you’d rather return home, though I can’t say the same for my dragon...”

V’lia paused mid-step when V’ra mentioned they could continue where they left off. That was a sudden turn around and right after dressing! She wasn’t opposed to the idea, however, and was about to say as much when she spotted the hand waving toward the door, likely indicating the room that lay beyond it. A giggle escaped and V’lia gave her head a tiny shake as she realised she was about to be on the very wrong page or a very different book. With that mistake caught before it became awkward between them, V’lia continued her strides around the bed so she could hand the glow back to the bluerider and then she considered the options.

Finally, V’lia shook her head, “it was already getting late before the Flight so we should probably call it a night. A’dis might have something tasty waiting for me as well.” There was a high chance that A’dis himself might be that something tasty but V’lia wouldn’t mind and even hoped for that. "Your man probably wouldn't mind having you and your space back as well." If V'ler noticed. Tiath informed her that Veeth had Chased so his rider was either with someone or maybe already back to his composing. She didn't know much about that bluerider since he wasn't the most social of men but the little she saw of him when visiting V'ra had her knowing he was mated to his music as much as he was to V'ra.

V'lia gave her friend a smile and opened the door only to pause in the doorway and try her best to stifle a laugh. V'ler was at his desk with his firelizards sprawled around him as he scribbled something down. She watched him for a moment, admiring his side profile as he frowned and scratched something out and then dipped his quill to tackle whatever had him vexxed once more. When V'ra came out to join her, V'lia leaned over and whispered, "do you think he's even aware he was interrupted by a Flight? Maybe just a minor irritation that pulled him from his desk for a bit?"

The giggle took Indivara by surprise, and she tilted her head slightly as she frowned in confusion at V’lia; when she realised what direction the greenrider’s mind had gone with her words, Indivara blushed in the darkness, and took the stone that was handed to her when the other woman came around towards her. While Indivara half expected to be jumped, she didn’t show as much, and instead watched as V’lia appeared to be thinking.

“That’s fair,” Indivara said, her voice amused. At the comment about Val, Indivara snorted in amusement, following V’lia as she made her way over to the door. Blue eyes sparkled at V’lia’s obvious attempt to smother her amusement, but the expression turned to deep affection as Indivara turned her gaze to study Val as he worked. She shook her head in bemusement at the question. “Definitely just a minor irritation,” Indivara murmured, clearly amused. “Considering Veeth chases almost every other day.” Val couldn’t even visit another Weyr without Veeth getting caught up in some green’s flight. Indivara once more thanked her dragon for not being nearly that randy.

Leaving V’lia’s side for a moment, Indivara made her way quietly across the weyr, and wrapped her arms around Val’s neck, pressing an affectionate kiss to his temple. He barely acknowledged her, but she’d expected as much as she loosened her grip and peered down at what he was working on curiously. Her nose scrunched up at the randomness of what she saw, and she released her mate. In the process, however, she picked up the little ink pot before making her way back to walk V’lia out of the weyr. Baiting Val was a favourite pastime.

“Are you right to walk?” Indivara asked as she led V’lia to the door out of the weyr. Their dragons seemed quite happy curled up for the time being, and Indivara knew firsthand how hard it could be to convince a dragon to leave their flight-partner before they were ready. “Val may be functional in a moment,” she grinned, twirling the inkpot between her fingers. It was very likely he had another pot on hand, but there was also a chance he would chase her down to claim the one she’d stolen. “You could catch a lift on Veeth.”

V’lia giggled once more at her friend’s response. It certainly seemed that way given V’ler didn’t even pay them any attention as they came out of the bedroom. She barely even saw a reaction to the ink pot being stolen. Maybe a small sigh but he didn’t look their way or say anything. But that was something she had learned about that bluerider over the years—sometimes it was better that he was silent. He had a sharp tongue when he wanted to use it and knowing his opinion on a matter or a person wasn’t always the most flattering take.

A grin answered V’ra’s but V’lia shook her head. “I’m all right. A walk will be a nice way to stretch before I sink into a hot bath.” She knew how uncomfortable V’ra was talking about intimacy of any sort and while it was sometimes fun to tease her friend, V’lia decided to take pity on her instead and left what she had said earlier as the final note on their Flight together. “I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon,” V’lia was about to leave when she saw V’ler get up from the desk and she laughed once more.

“You’re in trouble,” she teased in a sing-song voice with a nod toward the approaching bluerider. V’lia didn’t stick around to see what kind of weird foreplay they were into. V’ra deserved a quiet night after getting sucked into a Flight and if that involved ink and teasing her mate, then so be it. She had her own man to go find and coerce into pampering her with that hot bath and a massage.
