Another early morning thanks to his dragon. Atranth was getting better at not insisting they had to see every single one--or rather, that N'noa didn't need to see them all--but it still happened more than N'noa would prefer. He knew that was partly his own fault by over-extending himself. He was still a weyrling, though only four months from graduating, and he was constantly lending his hand with dragonhealing. His classmates seemed to be accident prone so they alone kept him on his toes but thanks to being one of the most trained and one of the ones that got the program going again, N'noa found himself in the infirmary regularly as well. He was beginning to find a balance now that Atranth didn't need constant supervision or oiling and the classes were spread out a bit more. But he was still having problems saying 'no' when asked for help, something N'noa didn't know he struggled with beforehand.

Yet, while he would love to sleep in, the early mornings were fairly peaceful and a time for himself. Most incidents happened later in the day so sitting on the ledge with Atranth was a time just for them and almost always guaranteed to not be interrupted. It was nice. It was even better knowing it was his--their-- ledge. After years of living in a Weyr, he finally had his own room again. It had only been theirs for a handful of days after spending several weeks preparing a new level of weyrs but it was a space to call his own and do as he pleased with whom he pleased without disturbing anyone else.

If he had the energy for it.

All restrictions were now lifted and he had a quick hook up here and there, more out of relief at being able to have such contact again but no serious partying or nights spent in bed with someone as of yet. It just didn't fit into his schedule, though N'noa was thankful that Atranth was fine with the divided attention when he did have a tumble with someone. He really did have the best dragon.

The best dragon that gave a little squeal and was suddenly stomping a foot down before N'noa could finish telling him not to do it. He sighed and a moment later gagged as the stench of the trundlebug hit him. "Can't you flick them off the ledge like I suggested when we moved in? It's less contact that way as well," N'noa pointed out as Atranth gave his foot a disgusted look. But what if it lands on someone's head? I can't let that happen. N'noa really didn't have a comeback for that, at least not one that wouldn't upset his dragon. If it was flicked away and landed on someone else, then it wasn't their problem anymore, but Atranth liked helping, not harming in any way.

They fell silent again, relieved when the trundlebug's parting gift dissipated so they could enjoy the colours of the sunrise and the sounds of the Weyr waking up. While the early morning was good for centering himself and preparing for the day, N'noa also found it a time for reflection, whether he wanted to or not. That morning found him remembering his big brother he hardly knew and wasn't very fond of. Z'ia had been Searched and believed dead with the dragon plague before he was born and when the dragons returned, Z'ia didn't bother to find his family. It was sheer chance he lived in Ista where N'noa was Searched for. But N'noa's ideas for what his brother would be like were crushed as he found a man that just wanted to joke his way through life and wasn't particular nice about some of things he did.

But a year ago Z'ia was a victim of the muffin attack. N'noa wasn't fond of the bluerider but he never wished for his death. He honestly still clung onto the hope that they could form some kind of brotherly bond but it would never happen now. He mourned the loss of his brother and that chance for something more but N'noa mostly mourned for Aveleth. He was one of the sweetest dragons he'd ever met and somehow seemed to believe there was good is Z'ia as well. N'noa didn't know what happened upon death and going between but he hoped Aveleth was happy and with friends.

With a sigh, N'noa shook free of those thoughts. He was learning not to cling onto the darkness. He had to let it go in order to move on, to get through the day. He didn't need such thoughts and distractions when he was learning to fly with Atranth and didn't need them when he was patching up a wing sail damaged in a Flight. The sunrise helped. N'noa alternated between staring up at the colours changing with the movement of the sun and closing his eyes as he soaked up some of the early rays.

Finally, it was time to go down for breakfast before going to their morning class. He'd take a moment on the way to class to peek into the infirmary, making sure there weren't any new developments with a couple of current patients. It was growing increasingly obvious that while he had no interest in finding a mate--far too many people to share the love with-- he was definitely married to his craft.
