T'ryn was laughing at a story his dad was telling him and B'jin when the familiar screeching started. He froze, the mirth draining away instantly. "Malvayth," he whispered the name as fear started to creep in. R'nd did his best to assure him that it couldn't be the gold but T'ryn had heard that screeching often enough since the moment she broke through her shell. There was no doubt in his mind that it was Malvayth and since clutching, she didn't have tantrums for no reason either. Something was happening and it was not good.

Before he could leave the weyr, Sir popped into existence in front of him. That was worrying enough but the firelizard was covered in blood and T'ryn swore his heart stopped beating as he made a strangled sound of distress. Sir flashed some images at him, almost too quickly for T’ryn to fully comprehend what he was seeing. But there was a masked figure that appeared to be a man, and Sir defending everyone. That was more than enough for him and T’ryn grabbed the feisty firelizard, cradling him close as he darted back through his father’s weyr.

Why he almost ran out the door when he could get there faster with a dragon was a sign of how shaken he was but by the time he reached the ledge, Syrendryth was there and in position. T’ryn gave Sir a pat to his head and set him free with an order to go to Malvayth and stay there but he doubted that would last long. Sir took defending Cazan seriously and would be back to keeping everyone away from her soon enough; assuming he didn’t do his creepy slow walk and stalk to unsettle people first.

She’s still alive, T’ryn. It would do well for you to keep breathing and stay calm so you can remain that way as well, Syrendryth chided him and T’ryn realised that maybe he had been holding his breath which wasn’t helping the panic attack trying to form.

I know she is. Malvayth’s screams are good for something. T’ryn was taking a lot of comfort in the gold’s distress. He felt horrible for that but he couldn’t handle what her sudden silence would mean. When they reached their weyr seconds later, T'ryn was momentarily confused as to why Syrendryth was angling for the other ledge. He took a moment to survey the scene they were entering and saw a dancing with worry Taith on the other ledge and a violently thrashing golden tail coming from the entrance where it looked like Malvayth had wedged herself in to get to Cazan. His heart dropped further into his stomach at that sight. Cazan was still alive but how bad was it?

Syrendryth had barely touched down when T'ryn's own feet were on the ledge and he was running inside, following the commotion he could hear from the other side. He entered the room and gave a strangled sound as he saw one healer leaning over Cazelarias, two more surrounding a far too bloody Cazan, and Kor'is standing there in wide-eyed shock. Why wasn't he doing anything? Why wasn't he injured or at least covered in blood to show he had been helping Cazan?

A small, very irrational part of his mind determined Kor'is was the killer and hadn't escaped fast enough and now didn't know what to do. But the calmer rational side knew that idea was bullshit. Attacking so many people and in various Weyrs was far too much work for the bluerider to put that kind of effort into and Taith stood out far too much with his personality.

Still, that didn't stop the anger that was forming as T'ryn stormed up to Kor'is and sucker punched him. "You were supposed to be keeping her safe!" He screamed, shaking from the fear that was now replacing the anger once more as he glared at the bluerider now sprawled on the floor.

T'ryn turned his back on Kor'is as Cazan needed him. He didn't care that he might be in the way as he dropped to his knees and took a hand that kept trying to bat at a healer. "I'm here, Zanny. I'm so sorry. I’m fine, you and your brother will be fine,” he hoped, anyway. But T’ryn continued reassuring Cazan as the healers checked her out and held her hand the entire time—more from his own fears that if he let go, he’d lose the magnificent woman he didn’t deserve.
