2023/08/04 Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Thistle!

Helyna hummed as she finished rubbing oil into Iliyith’s gleaming hide; there was just enough time to go tidy up the harnesses and clean herself up before dinner, thanks to Vondal’s help with the task. She was pleased that he didn’t seem quite as afraid of her beautiful dragon these days, though she noted he preferred to work well away from her mouth still. Helyna scratched her eye ridge and the gold preened under the attention, her eyes on the sun as it slipped towards the edge of the Bowl.

Thank you for the oiling, she said, rising as they put away the buckets, and walking towards the ledge. She liked to catch the final rays of sunlight most evenings, so at first Helyna didn’t think anything of it till Iliyith continued, I’ll shine so brightly in this light. We’ll dazzle them all. Then she was gone, gliding down towards the herdbeast pens.

Helyna swore, dropping the bucket of rags and stretching out her senses after the gold. “The vain creature, insisting on an extra oiling, I should have known…” she turned back to her confused friend who was picking up the rags. “Just leave them. Can you run to the crèche and tell them Vondlyn will be spending the night?”

She pushed at his shoulder as he didn’t seem to understand the urgency “Iliyith is Flying. Vondal, it’s time to go. I can’t focus on you both,” she added through gritted teeth as Iliyith reluctantly blooded her first, careful to avoid making a mess of her gleaming hide.

Vondal had gotten used to oiling the great big golden beast, and he was fairly certain Iliyith wasn't going to eat him. Still though, he liked to stay at the safer parts of her, like her tail and her back. Sometimes he'd venture up to her graceful neck, but only when he was feeling especially brave or wanted to suck up. After all, if he had Iliyith as a friend then maybe she could save him from the other less savory dragons in the Weyr. The ones he wasn't sure he trusted not to eat him yet.

With the oiling done he was getting things ready to go, waving goodbye to the dragon when Helyna swore. He startled, blinking at her in confusion. "Everything okay, Hely?"

Oh. That flight thing she'd been talking about. He abandoned the buckets and the rags as soon as he was told. "Aye aye. I'll go let them know." And then he'd come back to wait somewhere nearby, probably in the hallway so that he could be near enough to know when everything was done and then go in and get that bubble bath started for her. He jogged off to head to the creche to make sure Vondlyn would be taken care of.

Off with the straps. There was a certain intensity to the command that had K'dar immediately complying without a second thought. They'd stopped by Benden to run an errand and the bronze had insisted on lingering as he "socialized" though now K'dar suspected that he'd had an ulterior motive. And the sight of a gold dragon shining brightly in the light of the sunset as she made her way to the feeding pens confirmed it. With a sigh, K'dar finished getting the straps off so that the bronze could go try his hand at yet another gold.

Still, he couldn't be bothered by his dragon's ambition this time. It wasn't like he was chasing after the mother of his nephew after all. Or niece. He was still waiting to find out which. He gave the bronze a pat on the neck before Tiberuth took off, finding a good perch to watch and wait from. All that was left now was to stash his belongings somewhere safe, and once that was done he stretched and made sure he was comfortable. Hopefully he'd find someone fun to ride this out with.

Iliyith is about to Fly.

Okay... thanks for the warning? A'tay wasn't sure why Xyxyth was remarking on that other than to let him know what was going on in Benden. They had decided to visit a classmate that had moved Weyrs, spending the afternoon catching up and had just finished up a meal together in the dining cavern. His friend hadn't mentioned Iliyith was ready to Fly any day now but he was also a bluerider so he wouldn't be entering anyway and wasn't much for gossip.

It will be any moment now. Can I enter? His voice was so low that A'tay almost missed it and shook his head in disbelief when he caught on.

"No! We agreed to a year and it hasn't been a year yet!" Caught up in panic, A'tay didn't realise he was speaking--shouting--out loud until he saw his friend's wide eyes and his attempt not to laugh.

But you're not afraid of coupling with a woman anymore so I thought maybe we could try Chasing again. Again his voice was soft and now carried notes of sadness and it broke A'tay's heart. How could he be so mean to his dragon, his soulmate?

On one hand, A'tay saw things how Xyxyth did. He was no longer a virgin and that had been a large part of his fear when he tried to Chase Thallyath two years earlier. He was also a lot younger then and that also played a part. He was of an age now where Flights were deemed normal. It didn't even matter that he had a girlfriend since it wasn't serious and she had other lovers. So what was stopping him from letting Xyxyth do what was natural to him?

The fear of losing started to stand out. He didn't know who he would end up with or what either of them would be like lost in dragonlust and upset over the loss. In fact, the entire dragonlust business was horrifying. Giving over to Xyxyth, focused so intently on the race and the golden prize, uncaring if he struck someone in his way...

But it would happen eventually. He couldn't keep denying Xyxyth, that was just too cruel to consider. Maybe now would be a good time for them both to practice a Flight? They knew some people in Benden but those closest to him weren't there--like his siblings, Madiquel, and Zelly. He didn't like the idea of any of them seeing him in his first Flight and what kind of beast he could become when those feral urges took over.

"I think I might be crazy," A'tay told his friend as he got up from the table and sighed. Every fiber in his being still screamed at him to run outside, mount up, and return to Ista before the Flight fully took wing. Instead, he said some parting words to his friend and shuffled outside, scanning the area for other bronze dragons waiting for the main attraction to begin. He recognised some instantly, including Tiberuth and A'tay groaned that K'dar would be close by. Then again, maybe his adoptive brother would have a calmer head and be able to drag A'tay away if they both lost and bring him to safety. That made him think of F'drel and A'tay was also torn on his friend not being around to keep him out of trouble.

Trust me, A'tay. I will keep you safe, win or lose. The absolute conviction in that statement and the love he felt through their bond had A'tay nodding.

"Go," he whispered, still terrified out of his mind. "Good luck, Xyxyth."

Iliyith is about to Rise! Ghaeth nearly squealed the news when he saw the pretty gold bolt from her ledge and down to the pens of herd beasts. K'tir, normally used to his dragon's excitement, stumbled as he walked around the Lower Bowl with a friend. He caught himself with a laugh, explaining what the excitement was all about. Being a fellow brownrider, K'tir watched his friend check in with his own dragon and gave a shrug. "They do love a challenge, don't they?" They clapped each other on the back as they parted ways to go get themselves ready.

K'tir, for his part, waited for Ghaeth to come to him so he could remove the riding straps. The visit hadn't been intended to be too long and they hadn't bothered with removing them initially. Now, he quickly worked to free his boy so he could go stretch his wings and show the bronzes that browns could still be considered competition. Not that Ghaeth had ever won a gold or come that close to it but Ghaeth enjoyed the Chase and lived with his dreams held intact.

Unsure of where to ditch the straps while so out in the open. K'tir decided the weyrling barrack was the best and closest location and jogged over to leave everything there after having a word with an assistant and weyrling that were nearby.

Go and have fun, Ghaeth! K'tir laughed at the excited trill Ghaeth gave and opened himself up to the building lust as his boy waited anxiously from a ledge up high.

"Damn it Gelabrith," T'drin growled when his entire body jerked with the depth of the bronze's need. Iliyith is taking flight, the bronze told him with his own low growl, And I'll chase. The bronzerider sighed heavily as he moved, shifted to stuff bare feet back into their boots. At least he hadn't stripped completely before that damned gold decided to hit the sky. He jerked again when his bronze landed on a beast, draining the creature dry before another and another. Gelabrith was untried as a sire, though he'd never lacked for trying, and he had every intention of winning this one.

T'drin snorted at the dragon's confidence and made his way towards Helyna's weyr, vaguely aware of the man being shoved from her weyr before settling with a loose-limbed stance. Gelabrith was ready, red swirling eyes on the gleaming body of Iliyith as he waited for her to launch into the sky. T'drin was nowhere near as ready as the bronze but he'd manage and barely acknowledged to the rest of the chasers that had begun to congregate at the goldrider's weyr.

N’mor was humming quietly to himself as he worked on a piece of Rhezalth’s harness. He was holding part of the harness between his knees while he worked an oiled cloth into his current section, taking care to be thorough and do a good job. While Rhezalth was hardly a dangerous flier, N’mor knew it didn’t take more than the unexpected events nature could throw at a Rider and his dragon to leave them relying solely on the straps. Much wiser to be cautious.

On the ledge in the sun, Rhezalth was sprawled out and taking up a ridiculous amount of space. It wasn’t often that there was room for such, but while Z’rin had gone to visit friends, Varralath had gone with him. Or perhaps to socialise on his own for a while. Either way, he wasn’t in the weyr, which meant N’mor’s lump of a bronze was taking up all the room enjoying the late evening sunshine.

N’mor looked up and over at his dragon, also being in the dragon alcove, and raised a brow as Rhezalth seemed to startle awake, and shook his head as he lifted it, craning to peer out and down towards the bowl. “What is it?” N’mor asked, curious, but more focused on his work than whatever had caught his dragon’s eye. Iliyith, Rhezalth said, with a slight frown in his voice, and he stood up suddenly, giving himself a thorough shake and spreading his wings slightly. She bloods.

“Oh, okay,” N’mor replied absently, before his dragon’s words really processed and he blinked rapidly, lifting his chin to stare at Rhezalth. “Oh.” He said again, then sighed heavily. “Off you go, then.” Rhezalth seemed slightly irritated – probably because he didn’t get a personal invitation or notification that the gold was ready to fly – and N’mor snorted to himself as he packed up, and wiped his oily hand on his thigh, leaving marks on the worn out pants.

“One of us needs to invest in a firelizard,” N’mor muttered to himself as he made his way through the weyr and out the door, closing it quietly behind himself. He had no idea where Z’rin was, but knew the bluerider would be cheering on Rhezalth and, N’mor guessed, himself. Not that he was thrilled by what Rhezalth winning would mean. Helyna was a nice enough woman, but N’mor much preferred her with her clothing on. And him in his, too!

Rhezalth’s lust was beginning to burn in his veins when N’mor finally made it to Helyna’s weyr, and he strode in confidently, letting Rhezalth’s confidence flood through him. They were mates, and had won twice before. They would win again; Rhezalth was convinced and N’mor had no reason to doubt him – though he did have enough of his own mind left to promise himself he’d tease the dragon relentlessly if he lost. N’mor elbowed a bronzerider out of his way, and prowled closer to Helyna, coming to a ready stop close by – but far enough away not to be attacked if Iliyith got spicy.

Pleased that Vondal was taking this seriously, she turned back to the coming flight. Helyna felt her vague annoyance at the crowd of men in her weyr drowned out by Iliyith’s growing lust. Focused on controlling the gold, she barely noticed as N’mor elbowed his way in and to a spot nearby. She looked out with approval at the growing crowd of suitors. Fly high and fast, darling. Leave them dazzled.

Rhezalth is chasing. But he’ll need to be clever. Iliyith rumbled, pleased, as she finished blooding. Crying out a challenge, she launched into the air, flaring her wings in the brilliance of the fading sun.

It was a good set of suitors chasing this time. Several young bronzes as well as her lovely mate. She could tell he was confident--and deservedly, for she wanted him to win her--but that didn’t mean she’d make it easy! She soared higher, using the sun to her advantage, blinding them before turning neatly and leaving them all behind again.

K'dar lingered by the door, leaning comfortably against the wall as he waited, not paying the other men in the room much mind. Tiberuth was quite enthusiastic about chasing, especially golds, but he still had yet to win. He could feel the bronze practically bristle at the thought, letting out a low growl as he watched the gold take off in the sky. He'd have his victory one day, and he wasn't going to let any setbacks keep him from trying.

With a roar he answered her challenge, launching himself into the sky after her. Tiberuth stayed towards the middle of the growing pack for now, not allowing himself to fall behind, but biding his time before making any real moves. All he had to do was be persistent, trust in his own endurance and mobility while waiting for the others wear themselves out. Sure Iliyith had a mate, which further reduced his odds, but the least he could do was make Rhezalth actually work for it. And if he could win and rub it in the other bronze's face then all the better.
