Home Again, home again

"Maybe we won't even need them. Wouldn't that be a delight?" He sincerely hoped thread would fail to appear for simple humanitarian reasons alone, but it would be admittedly satisfying if the dragonriders turned out to be useless and could no longer justify their crimes.

Tal shook his head, mostly at himself. Thanks to his internal outburst, he'd come to notice just how bitter he had become. There had never been much room for anger in him; he always got sad or upset instead. He could barely even manage true anger at his father. His solution was always to focus on something else so the resentment wouldn't blossom into hate. That same solution hadn't served him quite as well here with the riders, but his issues with his father kept reemerging alongside the new ones. Maybe looking the other way had never really helped at all.

Was the anger a side effect of trying not to be sad?

He sighed softly and focused his attention back on Lymsleia. Now wasn't the time to muddle over it, especially since he tended to act strange when he got too introspective. He was tired of thinking of all the same things on repeat.

"You're welcome," he said, snapping himself back from dour thoughtfulness. He smiled at her once more, this time less timid and less tainted by his own bitterness. "Maybe. I still have some work to do..." He couldn't have just left her there, though. "Let's go ahead and get you that numbweed first, though."

He motioned for her to follow him.

Think we're almost done?

She twitches. "I don't know. The dragons are apart of us.. as much as we are apart of them." she says a little sadly. "I mean what kind of stories will we tell our children and they there children?" she askes. " They became legends in own own time. When we were growing up they were dying or dead.. " she breathed. She closed her mouth. Her father-- the blue rider... was still out there potentially. She hoped. He perhaps was still alive. F'rid... she had his name, she knew it now. She just hopped his dragon had made it through the plauge.

"I mean would it be horrible to tell you children-- we were the last to see them because they all died? Thread is probabl going to fall. It.. feels right... doesn't the Queen rising--- prove it? I guess it might not it might be the urge just to have sex that strikes us all." she said through her teeth. She shook her head. She followed him quietly trying to get her mind of the stinging pain in her back and things. It was like a paper cut one couldn't get rid of.

I Officially say we are done

Talian was unimpressed. "They're not 'part of us', Lym. They're just beasts, no different from us or any other creature." Sure dragons had some unique characteristics. The bond, they said, was unimaginable. That's just what they said, though. Tal had no creative spark within him any more, no spiritual or transcendent side that believed in such things. How could dragons be 'part of' people, unless referring to a particular bonded pair? It was ridiculous. It sounded like something a child would say, fanciful and illogical.

"It's all well and good for the riders to be attached to their own dragons, but they're just animals to me. If they kill thread, well, good on them..." His tone was emotionless and almost calculating. He knew the dragons would prove valuable if thread fell.  Shards, they could be useful even without thread. He imagined they had amazing law enforcement potential at the very least. But this philosophical garbage was going to drive him mad.

They were interesting.  He could concede that much. Perhaps he'd have found them more enticing if coming to Katila had been his choice, but even then he doubted it. They were a curiosity. Nothing more.

He sighed a bit and pushed his office door open. He'd gotten awfully protective of that little room, which contained pretty much all of his possessions while remaining amazingly undecorated. Books were strewn all about. What a mess. He didn't really care, though. "Give me one moment...I have to dig out the salve." Tal kept only the smallest amount of nubmweed close by, since he knew of B'jin's aversion to it. Poor man.

He soon located it. "Now then. Let's forget about this dragon nonsense. Let's have a look at your back." His voice had warmed.
