Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

N’mor grinned impishly as he watched Z’rin hobble along, the young bronzerider more than a little amused by the whole thing. He was glad Z’rin was okay, and that the awful clumpy thing the bluerider had had on his leg to aid the healing process was off. The healers had said Z’rin wouldn’t need his crutches any more, for which N’mor was quite pleased. He wasn’t usually the irritable type, but crutches? So annoying. If the clipping noise wasn’t driving him insane, he was resisting the urge to throw them off the edge of the weyr from constantly tripping over them when Z’rin had put them aside. He was actually really proud of himself for not letting Z’rin know how annoying he found the stupid pieces of wood, especially since Z’rin didn’t intentionally put them anywhere N’mor would trip on them, he just seemed incapable of not tripping on them.

When the Healer had taken off the cast, and made a comment that Z’rin should probably use a cane to help him balance while he got his leg used to carrying his weight again, N’mor had leapt upon the chance to tease his lover for being older than him, much to the Healer’s disgruntled irritation. Perhaps he thought Z’rin would get all self-conscious and not use them because N’mor was teasing him? N’mor didn’t think Z’rin would, and if he did, he’d give him shit for being an idiot about it. They were allowed to have fun at each other’s expense, but they weren’t allowed to risk their health to try and prevent that fun!

“Another five minutes, and you’ll start a new record for longest trip between bench and bath,” he teased, resting his chin on his hand, elbow on the side of the tub as he watched Z’rin amble towards him still, apparently taking every step with great dedication. It was absolutely adorable, really. Like watching his little sister learn how to walk! That caused a snort of amusement, and he shook his head softly, playing off that Rhezalth had made a comment even as he climbed out of the bath to help Z’rin into it. The last thing he needed was for his lover to break his neck, or his leg again, or get a concussion. N’mor’s warm, bubble bath coated hand wandered as he stood close behind Z’rin, amused and content as Z’rin sank into the water.

Usually, they kept to the more secluded baths, just to make sure they’d be undisturbed and because they didn’t actually need a big bath in order to have an enjoyable time. This time, though, N’mor had kicked out a couple of greenriders from the largest pool – the two men were across the room in a smaller one – and he’d taken over the large one, which was actually made to comfortably hold some ten people. However, it was the perfect size and depth for getting Z’rin started on that water-recovery shit his Healer had been talking about, with the water easily up to their chests (somewhat higher on N’mor’s, since he was several inches shorter than Z’rin) and it was long and slightly oblong in shape, meaning they could move around easily.

Standing together in the water, N’mor held Z’rin for a few moments, nibbling on the crook of his neck, enjoying the warmth of the water, his lover’s familiar body, and the soft sound the bubbles were making. The lazy gossiping of the greenriders on the other side of the bathing room was easily ignored, and N’mor really didn’t care about them anyway; his attention was entirely on Z’rin. “Which boring exercise do you want to do first?” He asked against Z’rin’s ear, amusement on his breathy words. He had not enjoyed his own physiotherapy when he’d been recovering from the loss of his arm, so he hoped to help make Z’rin’s a lot more fun… But not enough to encourage more broken bones!

“Ha…ha…” Z’rin replied to the teasing with a crooked smile. He didn’t mind it, liked it really. It was something normal and he liked normal, wanted normal. Too much time had been spent lying in bed, unable to move due to his injuries and once he was cleared for his burns, he still had a broken leg to drag around, which meant he wasn’t moving much still and regular activities still weren’t happening. At least it had made him a more creative person if discovering new ways to get each other off could count as such. Z’rin had never loved armless chairs more!

But even with the cast off and downgraded to a cane, he was still rather slow in getting around on dry surfaces. Now that they were in a bathing room? Z’rin could easily picture himself slipping with a misstep and breaking something once more and sending himself right back into that accursed bed. It wasn’t all bad, though. N’mor had surprised him with his visits and while there had still been some touching and kisses in the early days where movement was severely limited, they spent most of their time together chatting. Z’rin was amazed at how much he really did like the bronzerider and looked forward to spending time with him. Of course that may have been a bad thing as well since their relationship was doomed from the start to never last. But with each passing day, Z’rin decided it was best to just give in and enjoy what he had and deal with any pain later on.

Still, he was surprised N’mor put up with him as long as he had through all of the healing. Z’rin did his best not to whine or seem like an inconvenience but he still worried that one day N’mor wouldn’t show up or he’d get annoyed at something. In Z’rin’s mind, he still had all of his limbs attached and he had lived. How could he possibly complain in that situation? Even now, N’mor was offering to help with strengthening his leg and Z’rin wondered what he had done to deserve such a friend in his life when the bronzerider could have easily bailed on him with something better to do.

He allowed himself to be helped into the water and sighed with pleasure as he descended. It had been too long since he had been able to do this! Couple the pool of water with his lover nibbling on him and Z’rin was one happy bluerider. He didn’t think he needed anything else in life to be content. “Were there any exercises that have me staying like this and wiggling my foot around?” He asked with hands coming to rest lightly on N’mor’s waist.

If he had voiced it, N’mor would have told Z’rin that he understood his fear. Not because N’mor was actually going to wake up one day and wander off due to the bluerider’s injury, but because he had been in the very same situation when he was younger; that T’ryn had assisted so much not only with N’mor in general, but with both their growing dragons. B’jin had been no shortage of help, either, and N’mor knew even R’nd had stepped in and helped when he could. The overall experiences were no doubt different, but the end result was the same: the never-ending gratitude for the help, and the fear that not only would it stop, but that it would be the driving force in scattering those that were helping.

Since Z’rin didn’t bring it up, however, it didn’t really cross N’mor’s mind; granted, part of his reason for helping had been because he would have felt like a major jerk if he’d ditched the bluerider, but like each of the previous times he’d hung around Z’rin to avoid being a jerk, N’mor found he quickly adjusted to hanging around Z’rin because he enjoyed spending time with the bluerider – even if his leg was a giant pain in the butt in that damned cast! – and while he still had a great deal of trouble admitting it, especially to himself, the bluerider was (and had) very quickly wormed his way under N’mor’s skin and settled down comfortably. Bastard.

N’mor laughed softly at Z’rin’s query, and shook his head. “No, and you know it,” he teased, pressing a kiss against the side of Z’rin’s lips and moving away just slightly so there was a productive space between them. “C’mon,” he said lightly, holding out his hand to help the bluerider maintain balance. “If we get this done we can actually enjoy ourselves,” and not feel guilty or risk getting growled at by grumpy arse Healers! N’mor (having actually listened to the Healer) had some idea that if Z’rin didn’t take his exercises and strengthening stuff seriously, he could end up keeping his limp, if not worse case scenarios like constant pain or rebreaking easily; that’s what they were told, anyway, and N’mor was going to err on the side of caution.

Expression gentle, N’mor alternated between being stern and pushing Z’rin to finish what he started, and being a one-man cheer squad as he encouraged the bluerider and made sure he knew that N’mor knew he was putting effort into the exercises. Remembering from his own experiences with his arm (even if they were different) he knew the encouragement was as needed as the stern stubbornness. Thankfully, N’mor was actually really good at both of those things, and while he didn’t let Z’rin get away with cheap effort, he was generous with rewarding kisses, touches and words.

When the appropriate exercises had been endured, N’mor grinned at Z’rin brightly; the poor bluerider looked like he was… N’mor wasn’t sure which emotion was strongest right then. Probably relief that it was over – for today, anyway. Laughing softly when Z’rin’s face seemed to echo that same thought, N’mor slid through the water until their bodies were pressed together, arm snaking around Z’rin’s neck so he could pull the bluerider’s head down and steal his lips in a kiss. When his lover responded, N’mor deepened it, humming his pleasure against delicious lips; he was completely oblivious to the way the two greenriders had paused in their dressing to watch the pair with amusement, before beating a hasty retreat.

Z'rin pouted just as playfully as the reprimand came then sighed and moved away from his lover to figure out the best way to start one of the exercises. He had been dreading this moment as much as he was excited he was at this point. It meant he was closer to a full recovery and he was ready for that. He was never an overly active man but being stuck in a bed for weeks and then barely able to hobble around when his back was healed but leg still bound was horrible. He was fairly certain he'd have nightmares about being tied to a bed or wearing casts on both legs as he tried to escape a monster. Or fires. As far as he knew, any nightmares brought on by the fire hadn't roused N'mor from sleep or brought about any suspicion that he might have trouble sleeping at times.

But they were there for his leg, not his mind --it'd be so easy to make a joke about N'mor never being interested in that to begin with but Z'rin knew that wasn't true, at least not now, maybe never. He got into position for the first exercise and with N'mor cheering him on and sometimes pushing him harder, he worked through each routine, gritting his teeth by the end of it. He honestly thought it would be easy and blow right through each move, but he tired quickly from the lack of movement over the weeks and his leg muscles protested at the constant abuse. He nearly gave up at one point but N'mor had said the right thing that kept him pushing on.

He was tired and frustrated, but relieved. It was over! Then he realised he was only done for the day and he returned to frustration and a sense that he couldn't do it again. Maybe he'd get lucky and only have the limp for the rest of his life if he didn't keep it up? But the thought of having a fragile leg that could break if he climbed down Varralath wrong was doing a pretty damn good job at motivating him to recover. N'mor cheering him on helped, as did his reward for doing well.

Z'rin sank down and slid his arms around N'mor's waist, letting go of the tension that had built up in him from the work out would have been easy to do if he was the dominant partner and could initiate a little rough play to release everything he was feeling. But he wasn't, and he was fine with that, though every so often he did wonder if N'mor would go for it. Likely not. The man was gay but still a bronzerider and they had control issues. Besides, while he enjoyed both positions, Z'rin knew he wasn't that wild in bed and wouldn't use someone just so he could get rid of some of the energy thrumming through his body and purge himself of some emotions.

From what he saw at the camp that night, Z'rin was fairly certain Casa wouldn't object to being used like that if she got off as well and thinking back to that night, his mind was blown all over again. Learning how kinky some of the people he thought to be reserved were was as much of a shock as the actual herb was. He had been so sore for days after that but it had been worth it with how amazing that night had been.

"You know," he grinned at N'mor as he pulled away from the kiss, reaching behind him with a foot to find the small ledge to sit on when soaking. Once it was found, he pulled N'mor over to it, sat down, and pulled the bronzerider down to straddle his lap so touching and kissing could continue if it should want to. "I think we should get a drink from Casa to celebrate when I ditch the cane. Barricade the door, two large dragons blocking the ledge, and hours of nothing but pleasure to occupy ourselves with." He ran a hand down N'mor's chest as he spoke and once he finished, grasped his lover's shaft as a hint that he was fine with giving demonstrations of things that could happen that night.

N’mor knew all about nightmares and the terrors sleeping could bring; but he also knew all about how to sleep like the fucking dead, which he honestly did a lot more of since he and Z’rin started actually spending the night together. If he had stopped to think about it, N’mor would definitely have been horrified by how much trust he was showing and putting into a bluerider, but N’mor was getting really good at not thinking about anything at all related to his relationship with Z’rin, starting with what their relationship was.

“You did well,” N’mor praised cheerfully, amused by the way Z’rin had sunk down and he placed a teasing kiss to the bluerider’s forehead just before he was drawn down onto the other man’s lap, laughing softly. “Do you now?” N’mor teased, looping his arm loosely around Z’rin’s neck and leaning back a little, head tilted as he smirked at the bluerider. “I might be compelled to agree with that plan,” he added, smirk widening as he felt fingers sliding down his chest and the promising touch between his legs.

While N’mor had enjoyed the camping trip, and the things the pair of them had gotten up to, he wasn’t sure he would actively seek out the strange herb again himself. He wasn’t against drinking it, but he didn’t really enjoy the after effects, and looking back, found the constant need that just wouldn’t abate to be uncomfortable. He had a feeling that if he did drink the herb again, he’d feel just as thrilled while it was active, and just as grimace-y once it had abated. N’mor was, however, surprised by the fact that he’d drink the drink if Z’rin wanted to upon occasion. It made him sit back slightly with a frown, eyebrows drawn together as he studied Z’rin’s face in confusion, momentarily unaware of the hand gripping him.

N’mor really wasn’t sure how to process this new bit of information he had gleaned on himself, and his relationship with Z’rin, and he glanced away from the bluerider, chewing on his bottom lip in thought. He was unaware of the fact his hand was gently combing the nape of Z’rin’s neck, fingers tangling gently in wet hair, as he peered sightlessly over the top of the bathing pool. It wasn’t until a few moments – minutes? – later that N’mor realised Z’rin was saying his name and he turned to look at the bluerider, apparently surprised he was so close to him and sitting on his lap. “Huh?”

Z’rin noticed rather quickly that something was wrong and moved his hand to a hip. N’mor usually didn’t carry a confused look, especially when they were in the middle of foreplay. There was a chance Rhezalth was bespeaking him, knowing that dragons had wonderful timing and every rider typically pulled some sort of face, whether it be blank, confusion, surprise, or any other strong emotion. He didn’t think this was the answer, though. N’mor often told him when the large bronze had something to say or gave a look of ‘dragons; what can you do?’ when he didn’t feel like explaining what was said.

So that left something he said. Maybe N’mor didn’t want to have the drink again. Z’rin was fine with that! It was rather intense and left him out of sorts during and after but it was also pretty fun. After calling his name a couple more times, the bronzerider finally seemed to snap back to reality and Z’rin gave a lopsided grin. “I was mostly teasing. We don’t have to have her drink, it’s not like we really need it anyway, but if we did have it again, I’d say we only have half of whatever she serves.”

As he explained himself, Z’rin realised something else and worried he was on the right track now and quickly added, “But I really am okay being with you without it.” He wasn’t tired of N’mor! He hoped his lover knew that. Hell, if N’mor’s hand went exploring south, he’d certainly know he wasn’t tired or repulsed with the idea of continuing on as they always had since that first day.

“I’ll also be okay if you tell me I’m a silly bluerider interrupting something between you and Rhezalth,” Z’rin gave a light laugh, kind of hoping that really was the reason after all and he hadn’t made N’mor uncomfortable.

“It’s not that, love.” N’mor said softly, still looking puzzled with his eyebrows drawn together. His focus was clearly internal as he shook his head and brought his gaze back to focus on Z’rin. He gave a crooked sort of smile at the bluerider, “You know when someone tells a joke,” he started, leaning lazily against Z’rin but keeping casual eye contact. “And you don’t get it, until much later?” N’mor gave a soft snort. “I think I just got a punchline I was missing.” It was probably going to end in him getting his heart broken by a bluerider that he definitely didn’t want to give it to. And that wasn’t because Z’rin was a bluerider (which in and of itself confused N’mor), but because N’mor had always thought he’d end up with T’ryn.

Love should be a fucking dragon, because it was as damned unpredictable!

He knew he wasn’t actually in love with the bluerider – not yet, anyway – because that would have freaked him out a whole lot more than finding out he was willing to do things that made him mildly uncomfortable if it made Z’rin happy… But it was that information that made him realise just how deep he was, and how little the distance left was to fall. Fuck. It wasn’t even that he was scared of the idea of loving Z’rin, so much as it was that he knew their relationship was based entirely on easy sex, and the loose friendship that had developed as a result.

Granted, they’d been living together since the fire, but that was because it was stupid for Z’rin to take up a bed in the healer’s wing of the Weyr… wasn’t it? N’mor wondered, with the sudden and icy fingers of fear, if he was unintentionally pressing his rank on Z’rin and making the bluerider feel like he had to do stuff. He was a bluerider, and N’mor knew from experience with his father and R’nd that a lot of things were done because someone else had a dragon with a shinier hide… What if the bluerider felt like he was being coerced or forced? N’mor knew from stories he’d overheard B’jin tell that bodies could certainly betray brains!

N’mor gave himself a little shake, and frowned at Z’rin. “I’m sorry.” He leaned forward, and gave a soft, lingering kiss. “Its not that weird drink, I promise, and we can talk more about sourcing some off the golden tart when you’re almost better. But can we just wash and go home?” He definitely wasn’t feeling up to his usual horny self with the way his mind was working overtime to super analyse what he’d uncovered about himself, and what it could possibly mean in the future. Why did everything have to be so damned complicated? Why couldn’t he just have a great sex-life with Z’rin and nothing more? Why did emotions and all that sappy shit have to get involved?

Fuck.

Giving Z’rin another mild look, lips quirked in a crooked smile, N’mor slid off the bluerider’s lap and made his way to the edge of the pool, where their soapsand was waiting patiently. Picking up the glass jar, N’mor pulled the cork out with his teeth and brought it over to the edge of the pool where Z’rin was. Grinning once more, N’mor held the jar out so Z’rin could take it, and pour some into N’mor’s hand. “You can go first,” he said, smiling. “You haven’t had a proper bath in far too long!” Pale eyes sparkled teasingly.

He definitely interrupted a conversation with a dragon. Love? N’mor certainly wasn’t talking to him. He had never used that term of endearment on him, though Z’rin wasn’t sure he used it on Rhezalth either, but clearly he did and was also clearly distracted enough to finish the conversation out loud. That was the only thing that made sense as there wasn’t any reason for N’mor to use such words with him. They had a casual thing going on that a nice friendship had sprung from.

Going with the explanation that came right after, Z’rin was convinced he was right. N’mor was giving a basic explanation of some of the conversation he had been having with Rhezalth and it earned a nod of understanding. Although, when he was younger, he was usually the punchline of a joke so even if he didn’t get it, he got it. Hopefully this joke wasn’t nearly as awful as his early years in Katila and N’mor could laugh about it later because he seemed rather distracted at the moment which still worried Z’rin.

He was about to apologise again when N’mor beat him to it. A grin was falling into place, a witty comment about to spring free when the explanation for the apology came after a kiss. Z’rin’s heart dropped. Just wash up and go home? He really had screwed up. He always knew his humour was a bit off kilter and maybe he shouldn’t have teased about the drink, no matter how much N’mor said it wasn’t the reason the mood suddenly died.

It was time.

He knew it would happen after the first time they slept together and it led to something regular. N’mor was growing tired of him after having to look after his pathetic injured ass for far too long. He had enjoyed their conversations that took place when they couldn’t be physical and Z’rin admitted, only to himself and Varralath, that the tears he cried when N’mor left him in the early days to eat, rest, or help with the fires, were because someone actually cared enough to check on him. N’mor insisting he stay with him when he could finally get out of that damnable bed had been met with a smile and genuine eagerness. He didn’t want to go home, even if he could.

He had been so careful, constantly reminding himself that he couldn’t get comfortable and expect their relationship to last, taking it week by week and enjoying what they had. It would hurt but he’d never admit that to N’mor. He’d agree it was time to part ways when the bronzerider got around to bringing it up, assuming he didn’t just cut ties and ignore him once he was able to send his freeloading bluerider packing.

Still, it was hard to control the emotions he knew were flittering across his face and Z’rin was glad when N’mor turned away to fetch the soapsand. By the time he turned back around, Z’rin felt he had managed a rather neutral expression and could easily say any pain or fear that might be showing were the result of the workout and overthinking what might happen if he didn’t heal properly. The laugh he gave at the teasing was genuine enough and Z’rin almost believed nothing was wrong with what they had as he turned around. Maybe there wasn’t and he was being paranoid. Time would tell.

“I don’t know how either of us survived me this long going without a proper bath,” he replied, tone light as he joined in teasing himself and the state he was in, introducing a way for their easy banter to pick back up and fill the time as they bathed before returning back to N’mor’s home.
