Indivara had never been overly into the birthday scene; she'd eaten bubbly pie with her family because they had insisted that despite her attitude in general, they were happy to have her and celebrate another year of her life. As a result, Indivara hasn't celebrated her birthday since the landslide. She wasn't sure if any of her friends even knew the date, but it was better that way.

Despite all that, she'd never shied away from celebrating someone else's birthday, especially when all she had to do was show up, eat pie, and drink bad Katilan wine. After all, Indivara was a true Katilan, and that meant any excuse to get drunk was a good one, and birthdays were usually the default setting.

This particular birthday was different. For starters, it wasn't hers or her friends - rather, it was her dragons! Venseth seemed more amused by Indivara’s antics than anything else, standing quietly and curiously as she finished oiling his hide, taking particular care with known difficult spots.

You know this is unnecessary, correct?

“Of course it is,” Indivara agreed airily. She didn't so much as pause or look up from her attention at his elbow. Venseth’s idea that birthdays were unnecessary clearly stemmed from Indivara’s own opinions, but he wasn't taking into consideration the fact that if not for his date of birth, and their binding than Indivara’s world would be entirely different and much less worth waking up in the morning to face.

Looking up suddenly from where she was working oil between Venseth’s blue toes, Indivara frowned suspiciously. “Did you contact Ry?”
Of course, Venseth’s dramatic sigh spoke volumes about his opinion of the current conversation. Indivara ignores his attitude, as she was prone to doing.
“And you told him to bring pie?”
Venseth tilted his head to peer at Indivara with one large, slowly swirling eye. Yes, Indivara. I told him to bring bubbly pie for two.
“Good,” was her only response, before finishing with his foot. “And you're done. Ry should be here soon,” and blue eyes scanned the sky for sign of the other blue dragon and his rider. “You can go though. I'll be in shortly!”

Shooing her dragon off to sunbathe for a bit before he washed off all the oil she had applied, Indivara peeled off her shirt and shorts, leaving herself in her rather plain underwear and chest binding.  Tossing her clothes on top of Venseth’s riding gear, the girl happily made her way to the waters edge.

Back posting because 237 birthday isn't for ages lol. Chose Ista because nice beaches lol

With their clutchmates spread across all of the Weyrs, R’vi hadn’t really thought too much on doing a large celebration for Vydoriath’s special day. He was always up for a good party and his dragon was of the happier variety, which meant he should have had the entire tiny population of Igen Weyr in party hats and downing wine with cake, but R’vi was still getting back into the swing of things after the move and readjusting of everything. So a quiet day together had been decided on, at least, until Venseth informed him he had been summoned to meet Indivara at Ista and with a pie, no less.

It was an odd summons but one R’vi wasn’t going to turn down. Given the day, he knew why she wanted to get together, despite her own odd behaviour of ignoring her own birthday. If memory served him correctly, R’nd did that as well. What was wrong with them? Why not soak up the extra attention a day dedicated to your existence would bring? Then again, Indivara wasn’t one to crave that much attention and R’nd got it on a daily basis so maybe there was a strategy behind what they did.

Either way, he had a small party to attend to! He hadn’t missed the way Venseth had mentioned the bubbly pie should be for two people. Unless V’ler was on a diet – he did kind of look like he was putting on weight the last time they crossed paths – or it really would only be the two of them with their dragons. R’vi was fine with the invitation list, though he now had the fun task of finding a pie. While he had decent cooking skills, there definitely weren’t enough within him to produce an edible sweet pie. Luckily, he did know the right person to ask and was gifted with a pie in time to get to the meeting place at the requested time.

Dragon and rider popped out from between as Indivara headed for the water. Vydoriath gave a cheerful greeting to his fellow blue before touching down on the sand not too far away from where Venseth was. R’vi took a moment to admire his friend in her undergarments, smiling as he did so. He was still attracted to her but he had realized some time ago that they weren’t meant to hook up and to let go of wishful thinking and simply enjoy life as it’s given to him like he used to.

“Hey, Di!” R’vi called as he carefully made his way down to the sand, careful not to drop the pie he soon held up as proof he got the entire message and even retained it all. The pie was set down on Indivara’s collection of items and R’vi cast a look around him. Igen was great but Ista definitely had the better beaches and couldn’t fault his friend for wanting to come here instead of his turf.

A few minutes later and R’vi was out of his riding gear, left only in a pair of shorts. He was the sort not to wear underwear but had slipped on a pair of swimming trunks under his pants before leaving. He had no qualms with swimming nude but that didn’t mean other people felt the same way. Though, they should, given the body they’d be looking at.

Your mood has brightened considerably since this morning. I like it, Vydoriath always seemed to worry about his mood, which was appreciated, but R’vi wasn’t going to get into any serious conversations with his dragon while at the beach.

“Must be the sun,” he replied with a smile and took off running for the water and his friend.

Indivara turned at the sound of a dragon’s welcoming warble and the cheerful sound of Venseth replying. Sharp eyes quickly spotted the new arrivals and the girl waved happily, laughing brightly when R’vi held up the pie he had brought with him. Good!

“Hello!” She called back, watching as he dumped the pie and stripped down, eyes sparkling with good humour when he stopped disrobing with a pair of shorts still clinging to his hips. Her smirk was wry as she shook her head and made her way into the water. She knew he kept the clothing on for her, even if neither of them would mention it. Indivara would never admit it, but she appreciated the gesture; thinking about what they'd done that one time almost four years ago was still enough to make Indivara squirm uncomfortably and die of silent embarrassment.

Which of course brought to the for front of her mind that Varlea would be four at the end of the Turn, and Rhaedalyn wanted her to be part of the party for the child. Indivara pinched her nose and dropped under the surface of the warm water, attempting to drown her thoughts. She wasn't mothering material, but Rhaedalyn just wouldn't hear of her not being involved in the child's life. The woman could be demanding for someone so universally sweet!

Rising, Indivara managed to suck in a fresh breath just before Venseth glided over her, inches from her head. She watched as he dove into the deeper water, sending lapping waves back at her. Indivara sighed dramatically and looked around suspiciously for R’vi. She didn't trust him as far as she could throw him when it came to water, and was fully prepared to claw him if he made a grab for her.

Venseth rumbled his amusement, watching lazily as Indivara turned in a curious circle. Was he stalking her? Or had he just gone under innocently and not surfaced yet? Indivara's eyes narrowed: he was definitely stalking her.

Always so eager to think the worse of people, aren't you? Indivara shot a dry look at her dragon, but otherwise remained quiet. It was just like him to be no help at all!

Indivara had a right to be suspicious in this situation as she was dealing with the more playful of the twins. He never did anything harmful and tried not to do anything more than a little jump scare if that was his aim. Usually, he just did things good-naturedly, including light teasing of close friends. In this case, however, he wanted to go for that slight shock that he hoped would end in a shriek, laughter, and since it was Indivara, a punch to the arm.

R’vi swam towards his friend, eyes opening when he felt he was close to her to judge exactly where she was and prepared for the attack. She was moving around a bit, likely trying to find him, but he waited until her back was to him and he swam up, fingers going for her sides in a surprise tickle attack when his head broke the surface. Anticipating some sort of revenge, R’vi attempted to take a few backstrokes away from her, laughing as he did so.

Vydoriath rumbled with laughter as he decided to join the small group in the water, though he kept his distance from the splashing humans. R’vi was having fun and didn’t need to be crowded or distracted. A keen eye was still kept on their antics, though, as he lazily drifted along.

Indivara shrieked, spinning around with a hot glare as she flailed, part of her wanting to whack her friend and part of her wanting to escape the potential for more ticklish torture; in the end she just sort of flailed around splashing on the spot. The laughter of her dragon as he paddled in the water not far away did nothing to smooth Indivara’s ruffled feathers and she snorted unhappily at Venseth before turning to point a threatening finger at R’vi.

“I will get you for that!” Considering Indivara’s past history with her friends, the would be no telling if she’d actually get him back, or if she’d forget about it but in the process have him worrying about it for several days or more. Indivara had always been full of empty threats, though she had clear memories of throwing sticks at V’lar when they were younger. Maybe she could throw sand at R’vi? There was certainly enough of it under her feet, though it would require diving under the water to get to it… that would give R’vi plenty of opportunity to either vanish or cause more mischief. Indivara frowned, that clearly wouldn’t work.

If she remembers to, Venseth quipped, earning another heated glare from his rider, much to his vocal amusement; the rumbling laughter from the dragon was low and clearly cheerful. I swear her memory gets worse every day!

Indivara was indignant. “It does not! It’s the extra lessons I’m taking.” Turning her attention back to R’vi, Indivara flicked some water playfully in his direction before moving closer, though her movements were far from threatening and her smile was excited; need for revenge at least temporarily forgotten. “I’ve been assisting B’jin; I’m going to be a Weyrlingmaster.” She beamed, clearly pleased with herself. While Indivara wasn’t particularly fond of the greenrider, he was a means to an end and Indivara wanted to do something with her life as a dragonrider beyond just ferrying rich Holders from location A to location B. The idea of tormenting their offspring was much more appealing!

Stopping a few feet from R’vi, Indivara brushed wet hair out of her face and turned an affectionate look upon her dragon. “Can you believe these lumps are two?” Turning back to R’vi, her expression was something more akin to wonder. “How’d we get so lucky?” So Venseth wasn’t a bronze like she’d always been sure she would Impress, despite the fact that no woman ever had before, but he was still hers, and he was an amazing young dragon. A big, young dragon, but no less amazing.

R’vi only laughed at Indivara’s reaction and threat. He knew she’d want revenge even before going in for the attack but it hadn’t stopped him and in a way, it encouraged him in the mission. It was like old times again. The times before even his brother had Impressed. A simpler time with goofing around, pranks, and threats that were sometimes nothing more than words and sometimes threats that resembled a nasty bruise on the shin or a sore arm.

As he leaned back to float along the water’s surface, R’vi shot Venseth two thumbs up of approval for his teasing of the girl. It was nice to see the type of bond the blue dragon and rider had and it was even better because of how indignant Indivara became as she bickered with Venseth.

The splash of water wasn’t enough to bother him but at Indivara’s words, R’vi leaned forward again to give his friend his full attention. “That’s awesome, Di!” Indivara had always been dreamer, sometimes with goals that could never come true for one reason or another, but it never stopped her from trying. He was truly impressed and happy for her, knowing that she’d be absorbing every moment of the training and how thrilled she’d be at constantly being busy. He, on the other hand, liked lazing about and had no dreams or desires like Indivara or N’vian with his Weyrleadership. That was something he wouldn’t share though. No need to point out his lack of ambitions or how he hadn’t been approached to even assist with a class.

“I don’t know,” he replied when the conversation turned to their blue dragons, “but I’m glad we did.” He had never told Indivara, though he imagined she suspected given the shape he had been in for a while, but Vydoriath had been a life safer. R’vi was struggling to stay out of a dark place mentally that had claimed him after his brother had Impressed without him, moving on with his life without him, but a pretty little blue dragon had seen the potential in him and wanted him. R’vi smiled as he looked over to his dragon that was still happily paddling around in the lake, feigning disinterest in what the humans were doing but the warmth of reassurance and love through their bond was more than enough to let it be known he was listening and just as happy.

“Although, I still would have preferred to see you on gold,” R’vi teased with a laugh, unable to keep a straight face even if he wanted to. “Can you just imagine? I don’t know if you or the sand-bound gold would be crankier.”

Venseth rumbled, amused and pleased that R’vi approved of his teasing; he didn’t need the other rider’s approval of course, but getting it was always a bonus in a world rife with teasing Indivara! She rarely appreciated his winning quips, though they both enjoyed their back and forth banter, even if neither of them actually came out nor stated as much. It was all part of the fun! Dropping his nose into the water, Venseth amused himself by blowing bubbles, aiming them in the direction of the two humans, though they were a far cry from actually making it that far.

“Me too,” Indivara agreed wistfully, turning dreamy eyes on her blue, which quickly changed to an expression of disgust. “Eww, Venseth! You’re going to get your snot all over us! Gross!” Venseth’s reply was to lift his head, and squirt water with surprising accuracy onto Indivara, who was less than pleased with the outcome and floundered to back up and away from striking distance of the squirted water. Venseth laughed, clearly pleased with himself, the rumbling sound clear and his body sending out little waves.

Indivara’s attention was returned to R’vi when he made his quip about her riding gold, and Indivara’s face crumpled into one of disgust, even as she valiantly tried to push away the rememberence of the dead gold she’d caused to ‘hatch’ during one of the clutches. Venseth let out half a concerned croon before catching Indivara’s emotions that she did not want to spoil the mood with such mores memories and Venseth turned his croon into a chitter, though it all came out very unnatural. Indivara pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Oh yes,” Indivara drawled, “And I’d make sure you would be right there beside me!” Lifting her head, she smirked wickedly at her friend. “You would be official Egg Bound Entertainer, and would be required to entertain us at all times of the day and night.” The girl shook her head, sending strands of wet hair flying, and sticking to her face. She pushed them away absently. “Imagine what type of gold it would take to Impress to me, though.” Her eyerows arched upwards. “Not sure we’d want that type of dragon on Pern.”

I’m not sure if I should be insulted or not. Venseth added mildly, though to which of his three companions the blue was talking to could be debated. Indivara stuck her tongue out at him, before smiling sweetly.

R’vi rolled his eyes at Indivara’s threat that he’d be stuck with them on the Sands. As if that would be a punishment! He’d be able to lounge around all day, working on his tan or napping in the shade. Sure, he’d have to deal with the occasional crankiness from the dragon which would set off Indivara for a bit but it’d be worth it in the end. Being lazy and hanging out with a friend; that’d be a good life. “I’m kind of sad you got a blue now,” he lamented with a far off gaze, “even with your demands, it’d still be a relaxing time for me. Why’d you have to turn out to be blue, Venseth?” He threw a pout at the dragon before smiling at the blue, ensuring it was known he was just teasing.

“Ha! I’d like to imagine you’d have an insufferably sweet gold bonded to you. Someone like Rhaedalyn maybe. So chipper all the time and meaning well with trying to take care of you.” That would definitely serve Indivara right if she ended up with that type of dragon. He supposed an extremely stubborn gold that could butt heads with his friend would also be possible but the sweet to balance out Indivara’s sour seemed like a better mix.

I think you should be. I like you in blue though. It suits you. Vydoriath offered up, amused by the whole thing and how carefree the humans seemed to be for once. So much had thrown them off kilter with the move North and creating a new path to follow that it was nice to see them just exist without any stress.

“Ignore him!” Indivara demanded, when R’vi pouted at Venseth for being blue instead of gold; the dragon was hardly fazed by the comment as his attention had turned to Vydoriath and he was much more interested in paddling over to the other blue so they could converse without the silly human banter getting in the way. Out of sight, out of mind was a wonderful way to work things!

“I think I’d be sick,” Indivara drawled, eyeing R’vi with disgust at the picture he was painting of her mythical gold. “Have you spent time around Rhaedalyn? The woman is insufferable!” Of course, Indivara only thought that because Rhaedalyn was so damned sweet it was sickening; the fact that she’d taken on Varlea without batting an eye only made her that much worse for being too nice. “Did you know she has Varlea ending every sentence with ‘thank you’?” So she might be exaggerating a little, but not by a lot! The child was turning into a mini Rhaedalyn and that in itself was terrifying.

I like her! She’s very sweet and she thinks I’m pretty.

“Rhaedalyn, or Varlea?” Indivara asked, turning to look at her dragon for clarification, but he was busy standing on his back legs and pawing at Vydoriath in what looked like a dragon sized attempt at being playful. Indivara shook her head to herself and let the water take her weight, watching as her toes appeared out of the surface of the water, before looking at R’vi.

“Hey?” A lingering pause as she both waited to be sure she had R’vi’s attention but also to sort out her thoughts before putting them into words. “Does Vydoriath chase much?” The fact that Venseth had yet to chase a green – any green! – yet caused Indivara some concern. She didn’t think he wouldn’t, eventually, but she was aware that he was outside the realm of normal with his apparent lack of interest in the pretty female dragons.

R’vi was content to just laugh and enjoy the random turn of their conversation as Indivara vented about Rhaedalyn and had a one-sided conversation with her dragon since he didn’t have much else to add. He hadn’t spent much time with Rhaedalyn but the little that he had, he knew she was indeed sweet and kind. She also wasn’t his type though she was pretty enough. She just seemed too fragile and too girly. There was also the little fact that she had R’nya as a guardian and father to her child. That whole situation screamed death trap and R’vi was very happy with being very much alive these days.

“Hm?” R’vi replied, a bit distracted as he returned from his mind’s wandering journey down ladies he would and wouldn’t bed. When the question tossed so casually his way sank in, R’vi chuckled thinking it was a joke or possibly even a complaint about how much her mate’s dragon, Veeth, chased. He glanced at the dragons that were now doing their own version of play wrestling, rolled his eyes, and turned back to Indivara who seemed intent on maintaining the casual air around her; meaning it likely wasn’t a joke or some sort of set up to tease him with.

“A few times. He doesn’t give in to every green that rises but yeah, we’ve been in a few chases.” He wanted to ask why, to see where the question headed but R’vi knew better than to push Indivara too much on serious topics. If she was annoyed by V’ler sleeping with the entire greenrider population then she’d say so without prodding. Then again, maybe he was looking at it wrong. His gaze went back to the pair of blue dragons and R’vi considered the alternative. Was it Venseth causing Indivara to worry?

“But every dragon is different, right? I know there are some people in the Weyr that tease me because they think I should have bonded to a dragon that’s always in the sky and others that say I should be on a blue that doesn’t chase at all given my own activities.” R’vi shrugged, showing it didn’t really matter what others thought about him and his sexual habits. “I enjoy when he does but I don’t worry when he doesn’t.” It was the best advice he had, especially since he didn’t entirely know what was bugging his friend. He had suspicions now but still didn’t want to come out and say anything.

Indivara grimaced at what was clearly a dig at V’ler’s Veeth, but unusually for her, she didn’t rise to the bait – purposefully dangled or not. It wasn’t that she was against standing up for the pair, she was all too happy to do so when the occasion called for it, but she didn’t feel the need when the reason they were being poked at didn’t seem to bother the pair in question. Besides, the only time Veeth’s chasing habits bothered Indivara was when it resulted in their bed being used by some random individual; she much preferred when V’ler visited other rooms and left their bed alone; there were only so many times she was willing to walk in on V’ler and his latest bed buddy before it got annoying. And it got annoying after the first time.

Chewing her lip, Indivara shifted her weight so she was standing up once more, and was startled when she realised she’d managed to float out so the water was up around her shoulders. She made to wade her way back to shore a little, lowering the water to her armpits, before stopping and returning her attention to the topic she’d brought forth. Her discomfort was obvious in the way her eyebrows were furrowed and she was chewing on the scar across her lip. “I guess.” It was true that every dragon was an individual and it was also true that Indivara was having a lot of these same questions rehashed in her training with B’jin to be a Weyrlingmaster’s Assistant. But it really didn’t alleviate any of the stress or worry.

“Ven hasn’t shown any interest, in anyone.” Her voice was low and filled with the concerned frown that was etched across her face as she looked up at R’vi. “I’m not sure why. He won’t answer any of my questions and changes the subject when I probe.” Indivara pushed her hair out of her face, tugging lightly on a lock in an expression of her frustration, and confusion. What she really wanted to ask was if she was doing something wrong; ever since she’d Impressed she’d quit her flight mothing – though to be fair, she’d quit that after falling pregnant with Varlea – and she was genuinely worried her absenteeism was in some part to blame for Venseth’s apparent lack of sexual interest. Not that R’vi would know that without her coming right out and saying as much, since she knew everyone and their dragon thought she was mated to V’ler, and most mates were sexually active. It was a common rumour that Indivara felt more inclined to let live than kill; it added an air of safety to her life that helped her feel more secure, especially when the Weyr was full of men who thought women on dragons – and especially blue – were detrimental to the dragonrider ranks as a whole.

R’vi frowned when the truth of what was on her mind came out. In a way he was happy that it was that reason and nothing to do with V’ler since R’vi wasn’t sure how he’d go about that conversation in a way that wouldn’t end up with him getting hit but now he wasn’t sure about what advice to give his friend either. If she had already tried speaking to the dragon and he didn’t want to talk about it, then that was about all she could do. Unless there really was a deeper issue. R’vi eyed Venseth closely for a moment, wondering if he was sick or maybe just stubborn. It was likely just stubbornness, he concluded a moment later and sighed, realizing he wasn’t much of a help.

Floating closer to Indivara, R’vi thought back to all the classes he attended every time there was a clutch on the sand and he was going to Stand again. He used to joke with his brother that they could teach the classes with how much they Stood and never Impressed. He mentally went over all the reasons why dragons chased and why they didn’t and even how a dragonrider could suppress their male dragon’s need to rise with his own need for the dragon not to chase. Another frown mingled with his eyes lighting up as R’vi felt he may have hit upon the answer.

“Did you ever tell Venseth it’s okay for him to chase? I mean, you’re mated to a bluerider so you’re enjoying your free time but Venseth doesn’t have a proper mate to chase. Maybe let him know you’re cool with him finding a green and you won’t mind a random partner at times if it makes him happy. We both know V’ler couldn’t complain either,” R’vi hoped his advice would help because he was out of ideas otherwise.

I love when they talk about us and forget we’ll hear them even if they weren’t right here with us. Vydoriath gave a rumble of laughter as he spoke to Venseth before giving a wave of his head to the beach. He was having fun in the water but lazing in the sun seemed like a good idea. The large rocks would be nice and hot at that time of the day and they’d be perfect for a nap.

It makes her feel better sometimes, if I pretend I can’t hear what she’s talking about. Venseth replied to Vydoriath, his tone mildly amused though with an air of seriousness to it; sometimes he went out of his way to give his young rider privacy, to the point where he would effectively block out her thoughts, or miss them due to his complete lack of paying attention. Indivara was a hard one to read, but she was intensely private and even with their being bonded, she wasn’t always comfortable with some topics.

“Umm,” Indivara frowned slightly at R’vi, chewing on her scar as she thought over what he’d suggested, two fingers tracing over the scar that was across her collarbone in an absent manner. Indivara hated her scars with a vengeance, but had early developed a nervous habit of tracing them when she was thinking deeply or was uncomfortable. Like the way her face gave away her every thought, so was the action an indicator of what was going on inside her head. “I don’t know,” she finally sighed, turning her frown upon her dragon, who was busy playing with Vydoriath.

“Maybe that’s the problem,” Indivara murmured, shifting uncomfortably as she glanced up at R’vi and then back towards her dragon. Her face heated up and she shifted again, pursing her lips into a flat line before expelling a long breath and frowning at R’vi. She picked up chewing her lip again for a moment as she considered what she was about to tell her friend. He’d been her friend for a long time, and while she didn’t trust him on the same level as V’ler, he was a good person and she was hoping he’d be nice enough not to laugh at her. She could always drown him if he did, and then he wouldn’t be alive to tell anyone.

“Val would only complain if I brought someone back to his rooms.” Her tone was dry, and she shook her head slightly. “And only because I threw a tantrum when I walked in on him and his latest loser buddy.” It had been a lot of fun, actually, and Indivara’s sly little smirk indicated as much, though it vanished a few moments later as her eyebrows furrowed together. “Honestly Ry, I haven’t slept with anyone since I found out I was pregnant with Varlea.” Which meant her last sexual escapade was with her current companion in the baths, and though it still made Indivara squirm uncomfortably to think about, they hadn’t really done all that much. Her shoulders slumped as realised she was letting her dragon down, but she wasn’t quite sure how to let him know she was okay with him chasing, when she wasn’t entirely sure she was okay with him chasing.

“I guess I’m suppressing him.” She murmured, picking at the scar across her collarbone without realising what she was doing.  She’d seen what flight lust did to dragonriders, and while some handled it rather gracefully (such as V’ler) some did not, and Indivara was afraid of what the lust would do to her, though she hadn’t realised that until that moment. The girl grimaced. Maybe those people who said blues were for men were right; in that moment, she wasn’t sure she had what it took to let Venseth be himself freely.

“Oh. Oh,” at first the confession was only acknowledged but a few seconds later it completely sank in and R’vi’s eyes widened for a few reasons. Varlea had to be about two since their dragons just turned that age. It also meant that despite her being mated to, or at least living with, V’ler, they weren’t sleeping together. That fact alone shocked R’vi and he struggled to figure out what exactly that meant. He had so many questions about that relationship now like why they shared living quarters and why they let everyone think they were mated when they clearly weren’t. Then again, maybe V’ler just wasn’t into women and it was an arrangement of convenience for them both. He knew it was pointless to try and get any information out of his friend though given how much she valued her privacy.

“Aw, Di,” R’vi came up behind her, this time with purely kind intentions, as he wrapped his arms around her waist. He gently positioned them until they were looking at their dragons and rested his chin on her shoulder, standing quietly for a moment. He was the worst person to do this sort of level of seriousness and advice-giving and wished his brother was there to assist in the matter. But, if nothing else, he could try to offer her some comfort with the spooning hug he was giving.

“Maybe you are but I think Venseth just knows what you want and what you’re comfortable with.” He hesitated, wondering if he was going to help at all or earn himself a smack and his friend stomping off on him, likely taking the entire pie with her. “You both always instinctively want what’s best for the other. I don’t think he’ll mind any length of time you might want.”

Before he could stop and think about what he was saying, R’vi added, “I can always help ease you back into things as well.” A playful kiss was given to Indivara’s cheek before his chin was back to resting on her shoulder. He was teasing, flirting out of habit and a sign that he was still the fun-loving twin and didn’t find anything weird between them. He sometimes wondered if Indivara noticed at all that he was a bit weird around her for a while or that his flirting from the past had stopped for a time. Either way, he was willing to help her out whether it be giving weak advice or even in a sexual manner.

You are the only rider right for me, Venseth confided quietly, pausing in his game with Vydoriath to reassure his depressed rider, only prepared to pretend not to hear so much, especially when it came to Indivara doubting herself about him and their bond. For all that Indivara was a proud little creature, she had more insecurities than Venseth thought was normal. Probably enough that there were none left for anyone else.

Indivara flinched slightly when R’vi came up behind her, expecting him to jump her or splash her since she wouldn’t have put it past him to use such actions to lighten the dour mood she’d brought down upon them. She hummed a quiet agreement to what her fellow bluerider said; after all, she would never do anything to intentionally hurt her dragon, and she knew a dragon would never do anything that would harm their rider. It just didn’t sit well with her that Venseth was still waiting to give Chase, and the fact that it was becoming more clearly her fault for that was uncomfortable.

Indivara cast her gaze sideways to peer at R’vi after he kissed her on the cheek, then rolled them before settling her gaze back on the dragons. “I’m sure you could,” she drawled, not taking him seriously at all. It really had never occurred to Indivara that the mischievous twin actually found her attractive, being far too used to people who just put up with her to believe anyone beside Venseth was invested in her in any manner.

Turning around without breaking R’vi’s light hug, Indivara poked him firmly in the chest. “If I know you, you wouldn’t have the time for me.” Still highly amused, Indivara patted R’vi on the cheek in a playful manner. “Time for bubbly pie, I think.” It would no longer be warm (If it had retained any heat after a trip between) but a cold bubbly pie could be eaten with much more investment than a hot one, anyway!

“I’d always make time for you, Di,” R’vi replied, not at all hurt that Indivara didn’t believe him. After all, he was known for joking around and had pretty much ensured she didn’t take him seriously just then either. Perhaps a year ago it would have stung that Indivara still didn’t think of him as more than a pest of a friend or perhaps even a brother but now, he was happy they had their easy friendship back. It was a shame that she chose to go to Telgar Weyr though where N’vian was in charge given that his twin was only able to have that chance if the bad influence wasn’t around. R’vi kept telling himself that was a compliment. It meant he had some sort of power over his stubborn brother and that bronzeriders might fear him in a way.

Amused on a whole new level now, R’vi nodded at the idea of pie and let the serious conversation slip away. Indivara had listened, which in and of itself was amazing, and confided a bit in him. He only hoped he had given some advice that would help her out and let her give into some urges again, no matter who the lucky guy would be.

“Race ya!” R’vi yelled before sticking his tongue out and taking off for the beach. Vydoriath rumbled with amusement at their antics, believing his rider was actually ten and not mid-twenties like he claimed he was. Not that he actually minded. His rider was happy and having a lot of fun and that was all he wanted for the man. Besides, he had just been play fighting with Venseth, like he could really judge anyone right then!

When R’vi reached his pile of items, he pulled out a towel that he slung around his shoulders and then grabbed another one that he placed on the sand for them to sit on while they enjoyed their treat. Once situated, the pie was placed in front of them and R’vi held two forks before him. “I didn’t see the need to lug plates around when we could just dig right on in and enjoy,” he grinned and held a fork out for Indivara.

Indivara shrieked in outrage when R’vi took off towards the beach with no warning or proper sportmansship, leaving the short legged girl to flounder in the chest-deep water. Taking a breath, Indivara dived under and swam strongly for the shore; she wasn’t the best swimmer among her friends, but she wasn’t about to drown any time soon, either. Reaching the shallows, she bound through the water until she could pelt up the beach. The only thing that saved R’vi from being the centre point of a kicked up sand storm was the fact that he had the bubbly pie in hand. Indivara glowered instead.

“You cheated,” she informed him primly, her tone indicating she expected nothing less of her companion but she was still clearly disgusted that he’d lived up to her low expectations of him. Ignoring him for a few moments, Indivara dug up a towel and roughly dried her hair before she pulled on a shirt, one that was clearly V’ler’s, and folded the towel to sit upon. Indivara took a fork from her friend with great dignity before stabbing it into the pie with vengeance.

“Happy birthday, Venseth!” Shoving the forkful into her mouth, Indivara enjoyed it for a few moments before speaking through her full mouth. “Your birfday cahk is d’lish’s.”

Charming. Venseth drawled. He might not feel the same way about a human speaking with a mouthful of food as a human might, but he was no less aware of the fact that it was hardly a ladylike thing to do. Or even a polite one. After a small pause, the blue dragon continued, having made his way up the beach with prancing steps to find a sunny spot not far away. I hope you are prepared to come hunting with me after you are done here. I want to enjoy my own birthday treat.

“If you want,” Indivara shrugged, digging up more pie with her fork before glancing at R’vi. “Wanna bring Vydoriath hunting with us? Ven wants his own treat. Where do you want to hunt?” She asked, shoving her fork in her mouth, attention shifting back to her dragon as he wallowed in the hot sand, thankfully far enough away not to spray them with his movements.

We could go night hunting down South, Venseth offered, a mischievous gleam in his eye as he tilted his head to eye off Indivara, having included the girl and both their companions in his statement. The way Indivara lit up indicated the trip South was something the pair did often enough to be comfortable with it, but not as often that it wasn’t a great deal of mischievous fun to do so. It wasn’t that they expected they’d get into trouble, so much as the thrill of hunting by moonlight.

Indivara raised her eyebrows at R’vi in a silent question.

Oooh, that sounds like fun! Vydoriath piped up, excited at simply going hunting with his friends. He didn’t even know about the where or when of it but he was already close to dancing on the spot and would pester R’vi into agreeing if the boy didn’t add his own positive statement on the matter in the next several seconds.

With a mouthful of pie, R’vi laughed at his dragon’s enthusiasm and almost said they couldn’t make the trip due to other plans just to tease his beloved blue. He resisted though, especially when Venseth added where he wanted to go. Leave it to Indivara to find a way to add her own spin on a mundane task and then not even tell him about it! He eyed her up for a moment and then gave her a deadpan expression of disbelief. “Like you even have to ask,” which, she technically didn’t since she hadn’t said a word but those eyebrows spoke volumes. “Of course we’re in!” He was one of the Vian twins after all; he was born to be mischievous and have fun.

“I’ll even let you have a head start so you don’t lose the race to dressing and mounting up,” R’vi stuck his tongue out at his friend and then licked some pie filling off his fork before diving back in for another bite.

Indivara laughed at Vydoriath’s delight, and tossed a wink at Venseth, knowing that they had snagged the pair for company whether R’vi wanted to go along with it or not. She wasn’t let down when R’vi did agree, and Indivara was in the process of grinning at the prospect when he had to go and ruin it by insulting her.  Eyebrows drew in above her eyes, which narrowed in offense.

“Really?” she drawled, removing a chunk of pie with a vicious stab of her fork and shoving it in her mouth. She continued to glare at R’vi while she ate, grumbling to herself (and Venseth) about what a cocky piece of shit R’vi was, and how he’d be eating humble pie while he still had a stomach full of bubbly pie. Venseth didn’t bother to hide his own amusement as he rumbled with laughter from his sandy pit not far away.

“Oh shut up,” Indivara finally snapped, turning to glare at Venseth – who just rumbled with more laughter and very little apology. “Really? You’re supposed to be on my side!”

I’m always on your side, love. But I’m not blind, nor am I deaf. Now, are you going to take up that head start? I have straps to wear and I believe you need to braid your hair.

Tossing her fork onto the plate that was now missing a great deal of pie, Indivara leaned forward and into R’vi’s space and stared at him for a few moments, before lifting her hand and flicking him on the nose. Standing up fluidly, Indivara flounced over to her pile of gear and began the process of dusting sand off her legs so she could pull her pants on. Clasping them, she wrapped her hair up into a bun, and tied it carefully so it would – hopefully – not fall loose for some time. Her boots were set aside for the time being, while she struggled to gear Venseth up; despite his assistance, he was quite big and she was still quite small and throwing a length of leather over a huge dragon was no small task.

When she’d finally finished gearing up her dragon, Indivara dusted off her feet and pulled on her boots, turning when she was done to see what R’vi was up to – half expecting to see him atop his dragon and waiting for her, and half expecting to see him still on the sand stuffing pie crumbs in his obnoxious mouth.

Such a loving friend, Venseth laughed, kneeling down so Indivara could mount up.

Laughter followed Indivara as she took him up on the offer for a head start. She had, on occasion, beaten him in races when they were growing up and R’vi sometimes wondered if he was the one that needed the head start but he wasn’t quite as lazy as he used to be and was smart enough to know he’d get his ass handed to him if he pretended to lose to Indivara.

He ate a bit more pie as he watched his friend prepare for the trip before finally deciding he’d better get moving as well. He didn’t rush, nor did he purposely take his time, but dressed as he usually did. Lies. You would be rushing if this was a normal start to the day and you slept in. R’vi scowled at the dragon with the dream-like hide. He didn’t know what it was about Vydoriath’s hide that made him feel that way but it always had a calming effect on him. It didn’t even matter that some patches of hide were of a purplish-pink hue since it lent to his beauty.

As Indivara finished up and turned her gaze on him, R’vi, now dressed, was squatting back down to take a few more bites of pie. Anything leftover would be left behind for a lucky critter to find, though the empty pan would be tossed into his satchel. No way was he returning to the Weyr without it. The head woman in the kitchen would have him by the ear, literally, and nag him for far too long. That was a fate he wanted to avoid after learning that lesson once before.

“Wha? I was still hungry. I’m a growing boy!” R’vi feigned innocence as a bit of filling clung to the side of his mouth. He licked at his lips and then both forks before cleaning up. “Just need a minute and we’ll be ready.” He waved a hand to Vydoriath who was mostly geared up. R’vi still had to tighten some straps but was otherwise ready to go. Most of the population knew him as the lazier twin and the one who liked to shirk responsibility but when it came to his dragon, R’vi was focused. He maintained his leathers and had been told by a Wingleader that he was impressed by the speed and efficiency he geared up his dragon during drills. He may not have Impressed bronze or became a Weyrleader like N’vian but R’vi had wanted to prove he was still an amazing dragonrider.

“Let’s go feed these hungry fellas!” R’vi climbed up Vydoriath and strapped himself in and waited for his friend to take the lead. He knew Katila as well as she did but this was her excursion and there was a chance that Indivara had a special hunting area that he didn’t know about or wouldn’t have assumed was their destination even if he did.
