B’jin looked up, visibly irritated, as Larrikith gave a warning trill of incoming company. Technically speaking, of course, it was good that the dragons had seriously taken B’jin’s plead for warning if anyone stumbled across them or actually came looking for them, but the greenrider really wasn’t thrilled at the interruption. Removing his hand from up the leg of R’nd’s shorts, B’jin pouted at his lover and rolled his eyes, sitting up lazily. Sighing, B’jin leaned over to pick up the abandoned wine skin, and took a healthy swig before handing it over to R’nd as a young greenrider glided in, and landed lightly a polite distance away. Eyebrows arched as a young girl dismounted, perhaps about twelve or thirteen in age, and trotted over to them with wide eyes.

Stopping a few feet from the feet B’jin and R’nd, the young girl curtsied deeply and then glanced between them in confusion for a few seconds. “Um, Lord Benjinamor?” her gaze danced from one to the other before B’jin took pity and raised one hand lazily, amusement pulling up the corners of his lips. “Yes?” Relief flooded over the girl’s face and a smile lit up her features. “This is for you, Sir!” skipping forward, the girl presented a rolled piece of parchment, the centre squeezed from a tight grip, probably from the jump between. B’jin took it lightly and opened it with curiosity, holding it so R’nd could see over his shoulder. There were only two words on the piece of parchment:

You remember?

B’jin laughed softly, and allowed the parchment to roll up again when he released it, offering it back to the girl. “I do, and you may keep that for your own use, if you wish.” He’d noticed some charcoal smudges on the edge of her sleeves that belied someone who enjoyed drawing. Her wide eyes amused him further, and he waved her off. The girl curtsied deeply again, then turned and ran back to the young greenrider and his dragon, and allowed the young man to help her scramble back up. As the pair took off and glided slowly, obviously partaking in a tour, B’jin turned to R’nd and smirked. “You didn’t have any plans tonight, did you?”

~ _ ~ _ ~ _ ~ 7 PM ~ _ ~ _ ~ _ ~

B’jin had been playfully stubborn about keeping the meaning of the note to himself and not explaining it to R’nd, though he’d been quite helpful in assisting his lover in bathing, and was both suitably insistent that R’nd dress well, and happy to allow the bluerider to put together both their outfits. It was only fair, after all, and B’jin only knew greenriders; he simply did not have the connections to fish together a suitable outfit, and it was important to dress well! B’jin chose to ignore Larrikith’s snide comment that he had already been North and should have shopped then – lack of marks of course was irrelevant in her mind.

As evening arrived, B’jin ushered R’nd from their room to their dragons, dancing from foot to foot before asking Larrikith to pass coordinates to Ayyonth; she would remain behind to watch over their growing Weyrlings while they were away. B’jin scrambled up onto Ayyonth with a grimace of discomfort, and settled himself down behind R’nd, one arm wrapped securely around his lover’s waist. He was very fond of Ayyonth, but riding blind was very disconcerting! He managed not to bury his face in R’nd’s back as they took off, and counted anxiously as they ducked between, puffing out a relieved breath against R’nd’s neck as they appeared above Telgar. Notably, they were off to the side of the city and B’jin asked the blue pair to land them beyond the small grove of trees on the edge of a public gardens.

B’jin slid off the big blue dragon without his usual grace, and stumbled when he hit the ground, grumbling under his breath about the extra height. He smiled and thanked Ayyonth none the less, and held a finger to his lips to urge R’nd to silence. Winking, B’jin grabbed his partner’s hand and dragged him around the edge of the grove, apparently seeking the right place. His feet followed an ancient, worn out path that lead into the trees, and B’jin dragged R’nd along, scolding him quietly the one time he made a small sound, but his eyes were laughing.

The greenrider came to an abrupt stop, seemingly at random, and grunted when R’nd collided with his back. Turning, B’jin leaned up to kiss R’nd lightly on the lips, then indicated that he should stay back, but follow enough to keep B’jin in sight. Smiling, B’jin turned and continued along the trail, only looking back once to make sure R’nd was following his instructions.

Turning his attention to where he was walking, B’jin lead the way confidently through the trees and shrubbery of the thicket, pausing just before a small clearing broke in the centre, the slowly setting sun causing the area to be darker than it otherwise should have been. B’jin flicked his fingers behind his back, indicating R’nd should wait out of sight, and then stepped out confidently in time to catch the figure that threw itself at him. The greenrider’s delighted laugh was slightly muffled as he picked the small woman up and spun her around, setting her lightly on her feet in front of himself, he allowed her to plant a firm if fleeting kiss on his lips before he stepped back and bowed with official flair. She swatted him on the chest, and then wrapped her arms around him in a warm hug. “I’ve missed you,” her voice was low.

B’jin broke the embrace gently and with visible reluctance, before taking her hand and leading his companion over to where R’nd had been left. He was glad for the dim light; B’jin’s heart ached at the evidence the past two decades had taken upon the young woman he had once known. She looked every bit the age he was still decades from appearing, despite being the elder by no more than a handful or two of months. He kept that to himself, however, as he paused and held a hand out for R’nd to join them.

“I brought you a present,” B’jin teased, taking R’nd’s hand in his other when the bluerider joined them, and gently put the lady’s hand in his bluerider’s. “R’nd of blue Ayyonth, Lady Amarilla of Telgar.” B’jin bit his lip, gaze dancing between the two anxiously as he waited to see what would happen, his own fingers twined together with anticipation.

When it became obvious that B’jin wasn’t going to give him details – something that was honestly quite shocking considering the greenrider was horrible at keeping secrets – R’nd finally gave in and focused on the task of making sure they were properly dressed for the mysterious event. He reflected back upon their lazy afternoon picnic that had been rather enjoyable and then wondered about the note that was rather cryptic. He was glad B’jin knew what it meant and given the reaction, R’nd knew it wasn’t anything to worry over but still, he had to wonder what he had agreed to tag along to.

Thanks to some connections and favours owed, R’nd had them both dressed in fancy with a hint of casual – since it didn’t sound like they were attending a party that deemed formal attire – clothing that fit them both almost perfectly. His own wardrobe already had enough to draw on but B’jin’s was in sore need of assistance but R’nd was proud with what he had whipped together in a few hours and it didn’t seem like his lover had any complaints. Then again, when B’jin was excited over something, not much brought him down.

Once they landed in Telgar, R’nd glanced around trying to figure out what the night would entail but was still left in the dark. He bumped into B’jin once as they made their way through the path and gave the man an amused look when hand gestures seemed to be the new form of communication. He obeyed, however, and followed behind and then waited when gestured to.

R’nd had taken to observing their surroundings when B’jin wandered off and so he had missed the initial reunion but managed to catch B’jin approaching and the proffered hand. Smiling softly as curious eyes took in the new companion, R’nd stepped forward. The first thought he had at B’jin’s words almost brought out a laugh. Was I just gifted to this woman? Ayyonth snorted in reply, having been eavesdropping from where he lounged since he had to report all the juicy details back to Larrikith, It wouldn’t be the first time that happened.

Quiet, you. R’nd tossed back, still keeping a dashing smile in place. Once the introductions were made, however, R’nd turned the charm up to max and gave a courteous bow before bringing her hand to his lips for a gentle kiss. “My lady, it is a pleasure and honour to meet you.” He recalled a story from so long ago that B’jin had shared about how he had been a Harper for Telgar Hold and befriended the young second wife. The look that the greenrider had given after stating they were only friends, however, led R’nd to believe there was more to the story than that. Which, of course, changed his initial thought from being gifted to the woman into having a surprise threesome.

That also wouldn’t be the first time.

Amarilla’s small pout at the mention of company wasn’t entirely missed by B’jin, but he didn’t comment upon it, particularly since it vanished entirely when R’nd stepped out of the bushes. B’jin watched the exchange with lessening anxiety, a smile lighting up his features as R’nd bowed and kissed the hand he held lightly, and B’jin bounced slightly on the balls of his feet in delight.

“The pleasure is mine,” Amarilla smiled radiantly, deciding the addition of company was perhaps not so terrible. Her gaze flickered to Benjinamor, before focusing back on the bluerider before her as she extracted her hand delicately when he released it. It was always difficult to judge dragonrider ages; she was still having some trouble accepting the way her friend had barely changed – there were changes, and she could see the weight of the past years hovering over him – but he had hardly changed that much. Not enough to justify twenty years!

This man, though… Amarilla frowned thoughtfully and tilted her head to one side, “Are you Benjinamor’s son?” She could see why her young maid had found it difficult to figure out whom to give her note to! However, the strangled, spluttering sound that escaped from the greenrider, and the look on the bluerider’s face gave her a very solid answer and Amarilla flushed prettily. “I’ll take that as a no… Oh!” Her eyes widened and she glanced between them again as realisation dawned and her lips parted in a soft gasp of surprise. “I am so terribly sorry!” She dropped into an apologetic curtsy, her attentions far more focused on R’nd than B’jin, who was still looking pasty by her elbow.

R’nd stared in horror as Amarilla decided he was B’jin’s son. Why would she think such a thing? How could she think such a thing? He is much older than you, Ayyonth contributed, as helpful as always. Not that much older! Well, maybe, but that doesn’t mean—

And you both have similar hair colour and facial features, Ayyonth continued, enjoying the chance to pick on his rider more than usual. No we do not! Well, maybe a little… very little! R’nd was close to having a mental breakdown and Ayyonth’s snickering in the back of his mind wasn’t helping anything. Of course he knew B’jin was older than him and had even put the numbers together once that Larrikith was roughly the same age as him but R’nd didn’t like to dwell on that fact and easily brushed away out of mind, like he did with so many other things he didn’t like to think too long on. He never would have assumed he’d be called his lover’s son, though!

Then again, looking at the beautiful woman before him and the age she was showing, it did drill home the fact that B’jin was roughly the same age as Amarilla and the lady made the obvious assumption since dragonriders don’t age as quickly. Why else would her once-upon-a-time lover bring along another man to their secret meeting after so much time apart? Now that the shock had passed, R’nd could almost see the humour in it; almost.

The way B’jin had been sputtering and still looked a little pale, R’nd decided he was on his own for damage control and smiled once more as Amarilla blushed and apologised for her assumption. He could tell why B’jin fell so easily for the lady as she was rather pretty even when embarrassed. “No, my lady. We are the ones who should be apologising to you for leading you into such confusion. Please, don’t spend another moment dwelling on it. This is meant to be a joyous reunion, is it not? There should only be smiles, laughter, and maybe a few tears but only of the happy variety.”

If she had not been so embarrassed by her mistake, Amarilla probably would have found the entire situation – and most notably, the horrified responses of the men – highly entertaining. It was probably for the best that she didn’t start laughing at them both, since she’d just met one and the other she knew had buttons – or used to know, at any rate. When R’nd saved her (such a strange name!), and the situation was shifted to the past, Amarilla gave him a thankful smile.

“You are right, of course!” Amarilla nodded her head, and flashed a smile at B’jin as he stepped up beside her to be more with the group. The greenrider’s expression was both thankful for R’nd’s easy handling of the situation, and utterly perplexed at how the lovely lady he’d always thought so smart could possibly come to such a conclusion that he and R’nd were related. He wisely opted not to comment on that, however, and let the conversations be steered away from such heinous thoughts.

“I was not prepared for an extra stomach,” the playful scolding from Amarilla was enhanced with a light slap across B’jin’s chest and a wink at R’nd, “But if we can control Benjinamor’s sticky fingers, there should be enough for everyone.” Amarilla smirked and tossed her head smugly as B’jin pouted and she took R’nd’s hand to lead the bluerider over to the small basket not far away, in which were a selection of Telgar sweets.

B’jin wriggled on the spot, just behind R’nd, as he fought between the desire to pout childishly, and the need to eat delicious goodies. After a few short seconds, he darted around both past and present lover, to scoop up the basket and dash to the other side of the clearing with a wicked little laugh, sticking his tongue out over his shoulder at them both.

“Benjinamor!” Amarilla’s voice was exasperated amusement, and she gave R’nd a shove to help her chase down the greenrider. “Some people clearly never grow up!”

R'nd laughed when B'jin took off with the basket. His lover was so full of energy and life that it was hard not to laugh or smile at his antics. In fact, it was one of the many things R'nd loved about the man and the way it coupled with B'jin's ability to constantly surprise him. Although some of the surprises weren't nearly as fun and while some R'nd was blaming on Larrikith's flights, for the most part, he was easily adaptable. Like now, with the way he had been introduced to Amarilla and now had that same lady silently telling him to chase after B'jin. "As you wish, my lady," R'nd replied with a playfully exaggerated bow and another laugh at her statement.

He took off in a light jog to tease B'jin with, making a show out of the chase to keep both of his companions entertained. A few playful grabs were made that would deliberately miss the greenrider or allow him to slip away. But, like a feline with a mouse, the game of chase soon changed and R'nd guided B’jin towards Amarilla’s roadblock and made a proper grab for the giggling man. He came up behind B'jin and wrapped his arms around the man's waist, locking his hands together to keep the squirm worm from getting free.

"Now now, love,” R’nd whispered teasingly, letting his breath tickle against B’jin’s neck. “I’m all for watching you enjoy yourself but I’d much prefer joining in.” One of his hands slipped from B’jin’s waist and went for the basket, fingers wrapping around the handle. A moment later and a little tug was given to claim the basket for his own.

Amarilla decided very early that she was much too old for games of tag, and was quite content to simply do her part when R’nd herded the laughing greenrider towards her, though he dodged past her much too easily to be at all fair! Though the game was indeed fun, she was quite pleased when it became apparent that the bluerider was interested in ending it, and she stood firmly before B’jin when he came half-stumbling towards her, laughing and breathless, to be captured securely by his partner… and promptly forgot her presence.

Having been a Lady of Telgar for quite a long time, Amarilla was used to many things, including being ignored or snubbed. Being promptly forgotten however, was completely new and for a moment she simply stared in shock, before her lips pursed in irritation, even as she watched the pair with frank curiosity. She’d never seen two men act like that before… and she wasn’t sure she was comfortable with it continuing, especially at the expense of her being ignored!

Giving a delicate little cough, Amarilla quickly forgot her irritation in favour of bursting out into delighted laughter at the cascading reactions the small sound caused.

It seemed like forever since they had played such silly little games, but B’jin knew it could not truly have been very long. Silly games were more or less his specialty and he enjoyed keeping R’nd on his toes and surprising him. Randomly stealing clothing and dashing off with it was still a favourite form of taunting the bluerider, and usually resulted in many more items of clothing finding their way free of bodies, and into B’jin’s stash of stolen goodies. As such, it was within the norm for B’jin to forget about absolutely everything else when R’nd finally managed to snag his laughing, breathless self, even if he had just moments ago been planning how to dodge by Amarilla.

A shiver of delight tingled down B’jin’s spine from the spot R’nd’s warm breath brushed against his neck, causing all the little hairs to stand on end and the greenrider’s eyes to widen slightly in surprise at the words that breath carried, and he gave a husky little laugh. The embrace was warm and familiar, and B’jin leaned into R’nd as his lover extracted the basket of treats from numb fingers his mind distracted from the treats he had almost won all for himself and, for a moment, completely forgetting about Amarilla’s presence.

Twisting around in R’nd’s arms, B’jin wound his own securely around the bluerider’s neck, his expression coy innocence. “Is that so?” His voice was a soft, breathless murmur, eyes sparkling as he caught his breath after the game of chase, his lips just barely separated from the kiss he was delaying giving R’nd simply because he could. It was a kiss R’nd would not be able to steal as Amarilla gave a delicate little cough from behind B’jin, looking somewhat torn between wide-eyed curiosity and embarrassment, and just vaguely pouty about being so easily forgotten.

B’jin jumped terribly at the light sound, cracking his head against R’nd’s with a yelp of surprise that became a strangled groan of pain. His face became a crimson mask as his eyes welled with tears of pain and B’jin pressed a hand to his head, crumpling to R’nd’s feet with a sulking pout as he cradled the sore head and glared balefully up at Amarilla.

The Lady, still laughing gleefully at the whole ordeal, swept in gracefully and claimed the basket from the men and took it back to the small blanket she had spread out. Seating herself, Amarilla produced a small treat and took a dainty bite, watching her companions thoughtfully. “Do all your games take turns like that?” She took another bite of her treat, starting her question watching B’jin, before shifting her gaze pointedly to R’nd, the question far more directed to him.

R’nd rubbed a hand over the spot where head connected with head to ease the brief flash of pain before glancing down at the crumbled puddle of B’jin at his feet. The greenrider was pouty likely from being slightly injured and being picked on to a degree and R’nd simply smiled with a soft shake of his head. He bent down and placed a kiss on the top of B’jin’s head before straightening again and turning his smile onto Amarilla. “No, my lady. Games don’t usually end with B’jin pouting on the ground.” He had a feeling she was inquiring about the scene that happened moments before with the two men being rather cozy in each other’s arms but R’nd was trying his best to be diplomatic and look for boundaries and lines that shouldn’t be crossed with the former flame of his current lover.

Taking the cue from Amarilla, R’nd joined her on the blanket, seating himself opposite from her as he didn’t dare presume on what he could get away with. If it was any woman from the Weyr, he wouldn’t have thought twice about sitting right beside her or even stealing a nibble of food from her portion. Again, he was being cautious and far more aware of his actions than usual thanks to being thrown into a surprise picnic with the wife of the Lord Telgar. “Although there is usually a lot of food involved as he does love to eat. Then again, I also have a fondness for sweet things.” R’nd gave a bit of a flirtatious smile out of habit despite his efforts to behave and picked out a treat from the selection to nibble on.

After he was done with the current treat, R’nd grew serious and glanced at B’jin to see how his lover was doing before turning to Amarilla. “I hope my presence hasn’t ruined your plans for the evening, Lady Amarilla. Please, say the word at any time that you would like time alone and I will not be offended. Yet on the other hand, I would like to say I am enjoying your company and would like to introduce you to Ayyonth before we depart if you are interested.” He knew Amarilla was fine with some dragonriders if nothing else but R’nd wasn’t sure if she wanted to be near a dragon, especially with the major Holds still not entirely swayed into the benefits of the dragons returning.
