With the very early morning hours having been spent finishing up the paperwork that went alongside a new clutch, B’jin had then quietly made his way through all twenty seven bedrooms. The greenrider had silently tugged off boots some of the kids were still wearing, and setting them by the door, before tossing blankets over the youngster sprawled with their dragonet in their little wallow. Without so much as a dragonet twitching, or a rider stirring, B’jin had made his way back to his own room to catch three or maybe four hours of sleep before he was rolling back out of bed again at eight am.

Eight. A. M.

B’jin was pretty sure he hadn’t been awake that early since his own Weyrlinghood (Or the last clutch. Or the other morning with R’nd…). An early morning bath had done wonders for the man (though he wryly agreed with Larrikith that he would have enjoyed it more with his lover) and his usual sour morning-mood was lacking as B’jin ate a piece of fruit. The greenrider watched in amusement as the Weyrlings slowly woke up and made their way out to feed their babies; Larrikith informing them where about to head for any that had forgotten that from the Candidacy classes.

As the first Weyrling came out, B’jin greeted them with an uplifted hand, before drawing them over with a slight wave of his hand – which was still holding onto his piece of half-eaten fruit. “There is meat in the troughs, some lovely volunteers went out and collected it this morning.” B’jin grinned. Volunteers indeed; a couple of the older weyrlings from a clutch or two ago had been caught breaking rules, and their punishment had been hunting for the new babies, including skinning, gutting and cutting the meat for twenty seven infants into bite size pieces.

The greenrider repeated the instructions to the next group that came along, before leaving Larrikith to instructing them further as he made his way over to one of the dragonets. “Morning!” He greeted, smiling warmly at the young rider-to-be. “If you two don’t mind, I’m going to check Thallyath over, make sure she is put together properly.” He tossed a teasing wink, not at all worried about the dragonet being defunct, but it was all part of the process!

I will edit in the name and gender of whomever it is that replies first to B’jin xD I wanted to leave it open for any of the boys or Casa; B’jin will be checking everyone over, but all the L/PCs are welcome to come and socialise at the same time or he can scroll through each of you individually. I’m golden either way!

Remember, baby dragons speak loudly, so for the first 2-ish months, everyone within the immediate vicinity of a dragonet will be able to hear what they are saying, until they learn to moderate their volume and direct their thoughts to specific individuals.

XD this is the morning before the Landslide, following the Hatching. Just to make sure everyone is on the same page =P

Casa had slept surprisingly well, all things considered. The night had been full of dreams; but they were good, and whole, and peaceful. She had crawled back to the room, slowly stripping herself down before preparing the corner for Thallyath; the dainty dragon had proceeded to snuggle down, curling about so there was room for her ride. Casa wrapped her arms around the tiny beast, sighing happily and contently, her mind full of many odd conflicting feelings - joy, confusion, fear. Eventually they had all whirled together into peace, and she had drifted off.

But morning rolled around quickly and long before her eyes open, her mind quivered with this deep seated hunger. By the time she was getting up to get dressed, it was all she could think about. Casting a gentle glance at Thallyath, it was obvious what their morning was going to be spent doing - she had to make sure that Thallyath was fed, and washed, and oiled...and inspected. The gold dragon was very small, and she was worried to a degree about how that would affect her as they grew up together.

There's nothing wrong with me, and I'm completely healthy. I'm just very suited for you, and you for me.

Casa grinned softly, going to pull on one of her more worn down ensembles for class. Goodness, no. Put on one of the newer pairs Arddra picked out for you. You are a Goldrider, you must reflect that now. Casa paused reluctantly, but nodded, wincing at the loudness of the little dragon's voice. She was right - she would have to change how she was viewed and acted now. That was going to be a long road, she imagined. Sighing, she pulled on a pair of trousers she'd never worn before, still soft and supple, and a fitted tunic threaded through with browns and golds. She finally tugged her boots on, another wave of voracious hunger rolling through her mind.

They made their way quickly to where they were meeting with B'jin, nervousness filling her as she realized she was the only female to have Impressed this clutch. A smarting of approval echoed through Thallyath's mind at this, but Casa found it a little unnerving. Furthermore, she would have the attention of the Weyr on her and Thallyath both, even if briefly. It will be fine - I wouldn't have picked you if I didn't think you wouldn't be capable. Casa smiled, relaxing a fraction and nodding. "I...Of course, dearheart. I'm sorry I doubted you. It's just all very...different now..."

Thallyath snorted this off as silly, attempting to gracefully approach B'jin and Larrikith. Her tiny size made that difficult, however, and finally she came to stand with the others, at least coming to sit elegantly enough. When B'jin approached them, she bobbed her head in greeting. Casa waved and smiled shyly, glancing down before back at B'jin.

T'vor yawned, jaw stretching to the point he thought it might crack. He still couldn't quite believe he'd actually impressed last night. Even with Estelth right there in front of him. He'd fallen asleep fearing he'd wake up to find his plump little blue had been a dream. The Blue complaining about his empty belly had been very real and despite feeling like he could have slept all day T'vor was grinning.

He shuffled out of his room, hair a ruffled mess and clothes wrinkled, but he didn't notice or really care. Estelth was insistent on being fed right away. Can we going exploring today? I want to see everything! T'vor shook his head, rubbing a hand over his eyelids. "The only thing you'll be doing after you eat is exploring the insides of your eyelids." He answered. He knew the sort of routine most weyrlings kept the first few months. Though knowing what it was and actually experiencing it for himself was something else. Oh I'll try that then! Estelth closed his eyes, though he feet still kept going. T'vor gave a startled squawk, grabbing his Blue's tale before he marched into the hallway wall. "No, no, no! Eyes open if you are moving." Oh, okay. T'vor sighed, he would have to be a little more careful about what he said form now on.

T'vor listened to B'jin's instructions before guiding Estelth toward his breakfast. The plump Blue needed little encouragement. T'vor watched the Green rider approach Casa and her Gold, shooting the girl a reassuring if still sleepy smile. He was sure Thallyath was in tip top shape, even if she was on the small side. He muffled another yawn, yearning for a nice hot mug of klah.

B’jin smiled slightly as dragonet chatter filled the air. While the greenrider was far from comfortable with dragon’s poking around in his mind, the aimless babble of dragonets didn’t tend to bother him quite as much, though training them how to actually angle their speech so it went directly to their rider and bypassed everyone else… That was very important to the greenrider and a lesson he would happily teach his undoubtedly excited students very quickly. He did not like hearing strange voices, and most weyrlings (he had discovered) would prefer to avoid their young lifemates broadcasting awkward questions to everyone within three dragonlengths (if not further!)

“Good morning, ladies,” B’jin babbled, as he took note of their silent greeting. He flashed a warm smile at Casa, before turning his attention on the young gold with a friendly if critical eye. She was indeed small – around the same size of most of the greens and blues that had hatched – but from what he could tell just glancing at her, she wasn’t disjointed or badly put together. “If I can get you to stand up, dear, and extend your wings please.” The greenrider lifted his gaze to look over the pair at the new bluepair that had stopped not far away. “Bring your little fellow over, T’vor,” B’jin invited.

Then, having barely waited for Thallyath to do as he had instructed, B’jin was poking around the four-and-a-half-foot dragonet. His hands ran lightly over her hide, taking a few moments at intervals to show Casa the dry patches that would require extra oiling after the young gold had been bathed. He got her to run her fingers over it, and take note of the difference in texture before encouraging the girl to brush her fingers over part of Thallayth’s hide that was in happier condition.

“She is going to grow over the next six months like you wouldn’t believe. By this time next month, she will be twice her current size. By the time she is six months old, she will be -” B’jin leaned back and studied Thallyath for a moment, nose scrunched up slightly as he tried to anticipate the gold’s size. “Several feet bigger than Larrikith.” Of course that was not saying all that much, given Larrikith’s diminutive size. “I’d say she’ll hit twenty-five feet or so.” Not much in length, perhaps, but B’jin was pretty sure small dragons came with twice the personality of big ones. B’jin side-eyed Larrikith before returning his attention back to the little dragonet.

“It will be of the uttermost importance that you do a full check over of her every day. You won’t need to bathe her daily unless you both feel so inclined, but oiling her will be completely unavoidable. Larrikith, come here love.” B’jin waited for the green to come, and then lay down beside them; she rolled slightly, so they could see the row of ridges along her back. “If you both come here,” he spoke to the two humans, “you will see that I was a particularly lacklustre Weyrling.” He spoke with wry and flat tone, not really indicating how he felt about his own weyrlinghood.

Waving the two youngsters close, he took several moments to point out the part of Larrikith’s hide that were scarred from mishandling as a youth, and showing the difference between those scars, and the scars she had received from rough flights, which were focused around the joints of her wings. While Larrikith’s mossy coloured hide did a great job of hiding the scarring, once it had been pointed out, it was hard to miss the fact that chunks of her hide had clearly been unloved as a youth.

“If your dragonet so much as twitches,” B’jin continued as Larrikith rolled onto her belly and sat up, watching curiously. “Slather some oil on. Once they’re grown, they’ll only need a full head-to-toe scrub every couple of months, and touch-up oiling as it arises. But while they’re growing, your hands will almost eternally be slippery with oil, so you had best get used to the slick feeling of it!”

L'ton.. It is making noises again, a slightly perplexed voice echoed about his skull. A blue eye cracked open and took in the russet brown snout two inches from his face. His eyes flew open and he yelped as he scrambled back. What? What is it?! Some kind of thing to eat you? the startled brown asked hurriedly, worry tinging his whirling eyes a dull yellow. "No.." he started, clearing the sleep from his throat, "No, Kaliqueth, there's nothing there to eat me. You just startled me is all!" He hadn't expected to wake with the nostril of a dragon inches from his face and it would seem that he had forgotten something while he slept.

You'd never really forget me, L'ton. You just forgot to dream so it couldn't remind you, the brown reasoned with a whimsical tone. L'ton shook his head at the light hearted tone of his dragon's voice. A sharp squeal punctuated his thoughts and L'ton glanced wryly at Kaliqeuth, "Come on. Lets feed your complaining stomach and get out to the river!" So that's what that thing is called! A stomach, uh? Lets feed it before it starts talking again! L'ton's laughter echoed behind him as he lead his awkward brown to eat.

L'ton and his brown skirted around the others as he made a beeline for the head of the group. He wanted to be sure he knew what he needed to know and the front was where it was at. He mumbled apologies as he stepped on a toe here and there, Kaliqueth following behind him with an ambling gait. The little brown was awkward and his tail dropped and L'ton whispered, "Keep it up off the ground, Kal," Hmm? "Your tail, keep it up off the ground." L'ton was rewarded for his persistence when, giving it a quizzical look, Kaliqueth lifted the wayward appendage off the ground.

They settled in their chosen spot and L'ton grinned at B'jin as he started his lecture with a thorough exam of the little gold. Boy she's little! the brown chuckled and L'ton sent him a blistering glare, "Shhh!" Well she is.  Jests out of the way, Kaliqueth and his rider listened attentively as B'jin explained the need for oiling hides. It wouldn't do for him to allow Kaliqueth to scar because he ignored him. Kaliqueth's stomach took that moment to gurgle and his hand shot up, "Will Kaliqueth always be hungry?"

T'vor looked up when he heard his name, nodding as he nudged Estelth toward the Weyrlingmaster. "Come on, we gotta get you checked out." The blue gave a mournful croon as he was pulled away from his meal. I'm still hungry, Can't he look at Kaliqueth while I eat? T'vor glanced toward the other pair as he shook his head. "The faster you get looked over by B'jin the sooner you can go back to eating." His words seemed to appease the blue who gave up his struggling and bounced toward the rest of the group.

T'vor watched as B'jin inspected the Gold. She was small, even for a hatchling. He didn't think he'd ever seen such a small gold. If not for her color she could have passed for a green. He wisely kept such comparisons to himself as he waited. Unable to just quietly wait his turn, Estelth happily sniffed around nearby. Sitting still was not an option when he had so much yet to see. He paused to inspect a stone, giving the object a quick lick. It didn't taste like something that would be good to eat. Dropping his snout he gave it a nudge, trotting forward as the stone rolled away from him. He gave it another nudge, using enough force to send it bouncing across the ground. T'vor! Look, look at this! Estelth scrambled around to the other side of the stone, dropping in a crouch as he sent to stone careening over the ground. T'vor grinned, "Very good Estelth. You can practice some more later." He waved for his blue to come back to his side, which he did with a proud, prancing step.

He moved closer to the Green, looking to where B'jin pointed. He gaze widened as he noted Larrikith’s damaged hide. T'vor knew it was important to take good care of a young dragon's hide, but seeing what happened when such care was lacking really drove the point home. If keeping Estelth healthy and happy meant oiling every five minutes then he'd do it. As a beastcrafter he'd already been thoroughly drilled in the importance of proper care. That training had been focused on herdbeasts, runners, and others, but some things applied no matter what you were dealing with. He looked toward L'ton as the young man's hand shot up, the action quickly followed with a question. Estelth fidgeted beside him, the blue preferred less talk about food and more actual food actually going into his belly.

Shifting his attention to the excited blue, B’jin ran light fingers down the side of his neck, and lifted his head up, asking politely for his mouth to open so he could look at his teeth, before telling him he could, once more, close his mouth with a light laugh. Wings were gently extended one at a time, and B’jin looked them over, before moving down the dragon’s hindquarters and looking over his tail, then up the other side of his body. The visual examination was punctuated with gentle pokes and curious prods, but there was nothing in the way B’jin looked over Estelth that indicated he was less than pleased by what he saw. He did make a mental note to keep an eye on the pudgy little dragon, but he made no comment to T’vor (yet) about it; first he would wait to see what the upcoming weeks brought about.

“You are a beautiful little dragon, Estelth!” he complimented, smiling warmly at the youngster before turning his eyes on T’vor. “You have a beautiful dragon, T’vor! He is very nicely put together, and I think he will become a very lovely dragon in adulthood.” A wide grin suddenly formed on B’jin’s lips. “I think he can have a little bit more food, but not too much. We’ll be feeding them again before you know it and trust me – you do not want a dragon with a stomach-ache!”

B’jin grinned at the question L’ton put forth in such a plaintive manner, the greenriders eyes sparkling in amusement and affection as he shook his head. “He shouldn’t be,” B’jin promised, though he cast a dry look at Larrikith who gave off airs of innocence. Always inclined to stuff herself, from the moment of hatching onwards, B’jin was pretty sure some dragons would eat, even when there was no room to fill and hunger hadn’t been felt for decades. Pig of a green!

“You can feed him some more as I look him over, if you would like.” So said, B’jin reached gently for Kaliqueth’s left wing, asking politely for it to be extended as he did so. The young brown was a stocky thing, something that seemed to be fairly popular in the browns popping up of late, and B’jin did a reasonable job of keeping his features muted and unbiased as he examined the youngster. B’jin didn’t like browns, and he didn’t like brownriders, but it was a part of the Weyrlingmaster package and so… he suffered in silence (mostly; R’nd was prone to being ranted at or grumbled to).

“Another well put together dragonet,” B’jin smiled, turning his gaze to L’ton with a wink. The young blue and brown were lacking the sheer perfection in build that Thallyath had, but their proportional quirks hardly detracted from their build and B’jin was quite content that both would grow up into well rounded and well put together adults. “I do believe he will be quite an imposing dragon when he reaches his growth,” which was just what B’jin wanted. Another fat arsed brown dragon breathing down his neck! Despite that, B’jin’s smile and words were genuinely pleased. It wouldn’t do to insult the young man; he didn’t decide to be a brownrider, after all!
