The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Nevani had been up on the roof of her hut, having climbed up from the back using the window sill and the irregularities of the wood that formed the wall, when the humming started. She had gone up there to let out her frustrations through tears unchecked where no one would see her. She desperately wanted to stand on the sands for a chance to impress, but she had to loose her virginity before she would be allowed to stand. A feat that seemed impossible to her.

Excitement filled her features as she scrambled down from her perch.  Forgotten were her worries that had brought her up to the top of her hut as she then rushed towards the sands to watch from afar. She managed to find a place behind the young girl called Zelina where she could see.

She got there just in time to see the young gold's eyes flash rainbows as she impressed. Nevani smiled brightly as the young girl, Casa if she remembered her name correctly took the gold to go feed. Then her eyes went back to the rest of the eggs to watch then hatch.  The loud humming seemed to pulse through her entire body, and her tear streaked eyes now showed excitement.

One moment, the sands were empty of dragonets, and the next there was suddenly a brown where once there had been the Thought Is Free egg. When he had hatched, was not quite known by any, for he had almost definitely just appeared amongst the shards of his shell while everyone was occupied with watching his gold sister and blue brother find their lifemates. The young Thought Is Free dragonet didn’t seem to have any issues with that, however, as he quietly made his way across the sands and up to the young man that would forever be his.

Not to be left unnoticed, the Stay The Course egg began to crack, then topped sideways and bumped heavily into the Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo egg, sending the pair of them rolling in opposite directions. The first to find freedom was Stay the Course who revealed a blue dragonet, shaking his head to rid himself of the dizziness of rolling around, the youngster staggered to his feet, taking a few tries before success was reached, and then took a tumble once more. Gravity was not the poor fellow’s friend!

In contrast, the brown that hatched from Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo seemed to find his feet quickly, and with much more grace, though wet sand still stuck to his nose, which had poked through the shell first and his first breath of air had included a lungful of the grainy substance. He paused in his steady walk, eyes crossing slightly, before his whole body jumped backwards as a powerful sneeze tore through him. Startled, he sat down, successfully knocking Life’s An Illusion tumbling sideways to crash heavily into Never Stop Learning.

To say the little green from within Never Stop Learning was displeased with her rough entrance into the world would be a severe understatement. With a screech of fury, her little legs flew in every direction as she scrambled to her feet, climbing half over the Life’s An Illusion egg before it crumpled under her, the blue within squealing in fear at his own rude greeting to the world outside his shell.

Never Stop Learning’s sand-hardened claws raked over Life’s An Illusion’s poor face, back, neck and wings as she scrabbled without apology to get her feet under herself and back on the sand itself; Life’s An Illusion mewed and whined in pain as his passenger’s claws ripped through his tender and newly hatched hide. His mews were ignored by the little green, who snapped her teeth at him for wriggling so much, and left teethmarks in the blue’s left headknob before she finally managed to scramble off.

Life’s An Illusion squealed in pain and threw his head up, toppling backwards over the Live and Learn egg, crushing it and force-hatching the green within, who creeled pitifully. Never Stop Learning sneered with hot red eyes as her siblings struggled for their feet, and she ran headlong into the candidates, flicking one around the shins with her tail before she face planted into the shins on her chosen human.

Live and Learn cried sadly, pitifully and heartbreakingly as she struggled to get out from under Life’s An Illusion who chittered and creeled in apology as he attempted to not turn his green sister into the ichor leaking mess such as he currently was. Both dragonets stilled as one, when a sudden and very loud crash of thunder ripped through the sky above the Sands, before two sets of eyes whirled desperate rainbows and two young men came sprinting forward to rescue their young bondeds from the odd entanglement they’d gotten themselves into.

While the young men were untangling their dragonets, the Think Happy Thoughts egg seemed to find its moment to shine, and after a bit of a fight, a brown dragonet managed to wriggle his way free from his egg, leaving the shell mostly intact. Looking around curiously, Think Happy Thoughts seemed to be quite happy to simply watch the events for a moment. Snorting softly, he stood up on slightly unsteady legs, and stumbled his way over to the I’ll Be There egg. It was quaking, but hadn’t yet managed to crack.

Reaching out with his nose to poke it, Think Happy Thoughts was badly startled when a nose appeared suddenly through the shell to bump against his own. I’ll Be There’s blue nose snorted in surprise, before withdrawing rapidly back into the shell. Think Happy Thoughts crept a bit closer, and stuck his nose in the hole, only to withdraw it with a startled squeak when the other dragon licked his nose.

Shaking his head, Think Happy Thoughts turned and trotted off to find his human, leaving the unhatched I’ll be there to figure the whole hatching deal out on his own.

Seeing the little gold stride confidently to her chosen brought an intense amount of joy to the farmcrafter and the wide smile on her face was easy to see.  Blessed be, at least this one was whole and healthy!  She barely held in the shudder as the image of the last gold hatchling flashed through her mind and she firmly pushed it back into its box from which it was never meant to escape.  No, this one was whole and healthy and apparently a confident little thing by the way she carried herself.

That big, wide smile faltered a little when Aparicus saw which woman had impressed it – or young girl rather.  Little Casa.  Apari highly approved of the young girl who seemed to have a very stable head on her shoulders and had been a great deal of help in her gardens, but was the girl really old enough for a dragon?  More importantly, would she be old enough for a queen when the gold rose to the skys in two turns?  What age would that make the child?

Aparicus shivered at the thought and remembered her own childhood with its haunting memories.  Boxing up those memories had given her the practice and ability to box up the sight of the dead little queen, but she wasn’t quite so sure that she would sleep easily tonight.

Gathering up her white candidate robe around her, she quickly made her way off the sands to stand at the edge and finish watching the hatching.  The last thing she wanted to do was to be in the middle of the sands should a little dragon trip and stumble with her in the way.  As if on queue the sands were soon covered in ichor and Aparicus covered her mouth appropriately, giving the little blue a sorrowful look.  Surely he would be okay now that his boded had found him…

(Tavynia), weyrbrat

Tavynia was doing her best to wait patiently for the golden egg to hatch but it was getting harder and harder with each passing egg that cracked before it. She was getting cold and wanted to crawl back into the warm bed she had stolen for the night, though a look to Ryvian left her wondering if her snuggle bunny was going to be in any mood to smile. He seemed tense when a dragonet moved towards him and almost relieved when it kept going. Or maybe it was the disappointment that had his tight shoulders dropping? It was hard to tell from across the Sands but she was certain they’d both Impress that night and be the cutest couple the Weyr had ever seen! Unless she was spending time with N’vian, and then they could hold the title. It all depended on her mood.

When the egg her attention had returned to finally showed promising signs, Tavynia stood taller and waited. She knew she shouldn’t get her hopes up so high either given the last few Hatchings but this one felt promising. She felt like there was a connection between the little gold and herself so it had to be a perfect match. When the dragonet made her appearance in a quite undignified manner with limbs and wings in every direction, Tavynia eyed her up a moment and shrugged it off. Babies were clumsy. So long as the little thing didn’t grow up like Aradissicath with her clumsy moments, it would be fine.

What wasn’t fine was the way the dragonet went right for her chosen lifemate; and it wasn’t her. Tavynia gawked at the Impression and couldn’t keep her shock and slight outrage to herself. “Seriously? She’s only a child.” Casa had Impressed? Wasn’t the girl like twelve or something? This was ridiculous! There were far better – like herself – options on the Sands! Completely blown away by the clumsy – and now that she had a better look at her, completely ugly and unworthy – dragonet’s decision, Tavynia turned on her heels and did her best not to stomp away from the eggs. She wasn’t needed around there anymore and she wasn’t too thrilled with the idea of watching a child try to deal with a dragonet either.

What was with all the young ‘brats Impressing?

V’ler wasn’t the least bit surprised when Veeth and his firelizards started humming at such an odd hour since it didn’t seem like dragonets like working on the same schedule as the human population. Well, most of the population. He was still awake, working on the song he was going to get B’jin to sing at the Hatching feast, which seemed like a good idea now that the Hatching was upon them. V’ler had figured there would have been a few more days but their timing was unpredictable not only by the hour but day as well.

Indivara had gone to bed before him and while he still wasn’t quite sure what to make of her continuing to sleep next to him, V’ler continued to say nothing nor did he try kicking her out. She had made some comment about his bed being safe thanks to a line he sang in a song. It had earned her a flat stare then considering his bed was probably one of the most active around – assuming he was near his bed during flight lust – but he didn’t want to take it away from her when it seemed to be something comforting for her after the last Hatching.

He almost didn’t wake her for the current one, unsure if Indivara would want to go but Indivara was stubborn and prideful. Nothing was likely to stop her from attending the Hatching if only to show she wasn’t bothered by anything. So, bundled up in one of his blankets with Quill deciding snuggling up in there was a great idea as well, she climbed atop Veeth to attend the Hatching with him, opting to stay put when V’ler did as well. He had perfected recording the Hatchings from Veeth’s back thanks to a small board balancing on his lap.

The Hatching for the most part had been pretty tame and surprisingly quick. V’ler appreciated that. He may not have been asleep when the humming began, but he hadn’t been to sleep yet either and the idea was starting to appeal to him. Scuffles between dragonets and even who face planted upon hatching were recorded but naturally it was the names that were the most important part. Veeth sat close to where B’jin and the actual assistants were and V’ler strained to hear the names of hatchlings and the honorifics given to the men.

Veeth was in his usual wonderful mood and greeted each pair that came by though V’ler frowned when a little extra attention was given to the greens. “Can’t you wait until they’ve at least matured?” He spoke aloud for Indivara’s benefit, hoping to make his friend laugh. She seemed to be doing well all things considered. She sat behind him so any glances would have been obvious but V’ler didn’t sense her tensing up when the bronze hatched so early on and he was certain he heard a sigh of relief when the gold emerged unharmed.

Who had the gold selected? V’ler squinted and frowned again as he tried to think who the girl was. She seemed familiar but he must not have had too much contact with her on a whole. B’jin called on him from time to time to help with a class but that didn’t mean V’ler remembered every Candidate, especially if they didn’t stand out to him in some way. Oh, music; that was where he knew her from. She hadn’t been that graceful with a guitar and he had corrected her. V’ler had no idea if she had improved at all but he knew she wouldn’t have much time for the first few months of dealing with a growing dragonet. He wished her well and luck with that task he had been lucky with thanks to Veeth’s delicate size.

I’m fun sized, love! Veeth’s melodic voice brushed his mind and Indivara’s. It was one of his favourite things to say about his smaller size and it always made V’ler smile. “That you are, Veeth. I think that one’s about to hatch.” V’ler pointed so both of his companions could get an idea about which rocking egg he selected as the next one to burst onto the scene and readied his quill.

ooc: Indivara used with permission.

Alerae held her breath as the golden egg started cracking and the very little Gold was revealed. Her sigh of relief as a healthy, if tiny, dragonet hatched. She had tried to not think of the last Hatching, and her eyes locked on the baby, hoping that she just might glance her way...

But, twas not to be, as the tiny creature went straight towards Casa, and Impression was made. She sighed again, this time in disappointment, and her eyes briefly searched the crowd outside of the Candidates, seeing if K'tir was watching today. She spotted the brownrider and caught his eye. The woman gave him a rueful smile as she turned her back on the remaining clutch and moved off to the side. It still wasn't her time, but she was young yet, and Aradissicath should be clutching soon, so that might give her another chance to Impress. Her hands balled into fists and her eyes hardened in determintion. They stole her for a reason. She would Impress. She would!

It seemed this particualr clutch was as anxious to find their lifemates and step into the new world, as the Weyrfolk were, if only so they could all go back to their nice warm beds, away from the developing thunderstorm. The Less Is More egg took to wriggling fanatically where it was located, while the I'll Be There infant finally decided that showing himself to the world outside of his eggshell was what needed to be done. The deep breath the little fellow took was certainly lost within the sounds of the next rolling clap of thunder, but he seemed intent on escaping his shell, and as the echoes of the grumpy sky faded away, the little blue pushed himself free of his egg, and wriggled into a standing position. Even as I'll Be There gathered his feet under himself, Less Is More fought her way free of her own egg shells, and toppled into the sands at her brother's feet.

The two Hatchlings stared at each other for several moments, before Less Is More chriped a greeting, and gathered her feet under herself. I'll Be There leaned forward, nosing her side gently to help her up, before chittering just as cheerfully as he turned and made a beeline towards his chosen human. Literally following his lead, the green hatchling trotted after her bother, before veering off suddenly to sniff at the ankle of Ryvian.

While Less Is More was distracted by the smell lingering around Ryvian's feet, the Never Give Up egg finally had enough, and a firm headbutt to the top of his shell took off the cap, and a bronze head popped out with wide eyed surprise. The youngster looked around curiously, before his movements unbalanced his egg, and Never Give Up fell over sideways, the egg splintering as it hit the sand, so all the youngster within had to do was wriggle, and the cracks spread before his shell crumpled around him. Flailing a little, he finally managed to clamber to his feet as Less Is More seemed to have enough of Ryvian and trotted off past him to snuffle around the feet of Bordtai for several moments, sitting back at one point, she considered him seriously, before lifting herself up on her haunches and pushing him over with a shove to the chest. When he went sprawling, she gave a chitter of amusement, turned tail, and trotted to the far side of the Hatching Sands to Impress to a befuddled looking young man.

Never Give Up clearly frowned after his sister, and made his way over to where Bordtai was sprawled in the sand. That certainly wouldn't do! Circling the youngster, the bronze nosed Bordtai from behind until he was on his feet once more, wet sand sticking to him. The dragonet nodded to himself, gave a pleased hum, and then strode quite confidently over to his chosen human. He stood patiently while he was gawked at, before being lead off towards the side line to be fed. They had a lifetime for gawking at one another! Food please!

While the second bronze hatchling was the centre of attention, Pay It Forward, All Is Well and Never Give Up all managed to crack shell at once, a pile of blue and green wings and limbs flailing in every which direction as wet sand went flying. Chitters, chirps and questioning squeaks filled the air. Pay It Forward was the first to find his feet, and he backed up swiftly from his still flailing sisters, unintentionally bumping into the Knowledge Is Power egg, and sending it tumbling into the Truly, Madly, Deeply egg. They cracked against one another, sending puzzle lines zig-zagging over both shells just moments before another massive boom of thunder slammed across the skies. The blinding flash of lightning that followed before the sound had even began to echo caused the Pay It Forward hatchling to screech in fear, and go charging off towards the line of boys. He sent one sprawling, before running head first into another, trembling in terror.

The two greens - All Is Well and Never Give Up - also squealed at the sudden, blinding light, and shot off in opposite directions, with All Is well clearly Impressing as she came to a trembling halt at the feet of one youngster, though the Never Give Up was more questionable, as she trembled between the knees of Ryvian. Apparently, she had Impressed to another, however, who came striding over purposefully to extract his little dragonet from the other boy's personal space.

Truly Madly Deeply had hatched in all the commotion, and while the thunderclap and lightening had certainly spooked his siblings, he seemed much less worried about such things, as he sat calmly and thoughtfully considering everything. As Knowledge Is Power fought to Hatch, the Truly, Madly, Deeply dragonet climbed to his feet and made his way thoughtfully towards Indamor, who backed up several steps when he realised the dragonet was coming for him. The sudden furious screech that sounded from the freshly hatched Knowledge Is Power put breaks on both blue and boy.

Truly, Madly, Deeply danced sideways and out of the way as Knowledge Is Power made it quite clear he was prepared to draw blood if need be; with the blue in no mood to be bleeding, he flicked his wing dismissively and turned away, Impressing to a surprised looking boy not a few paces away. Knowledge Is Power sneered in the direction the blue had gone, before pointedly glaring at his new bonded.

As fast as it had begun, the Hatching was over -- with all twenty-seven eggs safely Hatched and Impressed, there would certainly be much to celebrate the following day.

N'mor and bronze Rhezalth

Indamor watched the eggs Hatch with increasing displeasure. No more bronzes? And so few browns making a show that the boy almost considered it more worthwhile to simply turn around and walk off the Sands. Certainly there was nothing here for him, if there were to be no more - at the very least - browns. The boy fancied himself much more a bronzerider than a brownrider, but he wasn't quite prepared to focus solely on such an uncommon colour. He couldn't quite wipe the scowl off his face, however, despite some of the more amusing antics of the dragonets.

The determination of the thunderstorm was ignored; there was no point in letting the discomfort of the weather add to the discomfort of being damp, but also hot and over all the entire wet and muggy feeling of the Hatching sands was disgusting and if Indamor lingered on it, only more inclined to make him grumpy that he still hadn't Impressed. Telrynd had Impressed - to a bronze! - and Indamor (who was certainly far more worthy of a bronze dragonet) was left standing with the other junky candidates that were never going to Impress - like Ryvian.

Glancing up at the young man, and seeing a green dragonet trembling between his legs, Indamor very nearly did leave the sands in outrage. If even Ryvian was Impressing, then Indamor would throw his hands up and never try again! He should have Impressed tenfold over by now if even that useless twin was able to --- Never mind. The fact that Indamor's shoulders actually relaxed when the green was lead off by another was not a particularly visible response, but it was one none the less. The boy was perhaps more relieved than he would ever say that the twin hadn't Impressed. He couldn't imagine being left stranded when someone as pathetic as that boy walked off with a dragonet.

Despite Indamor's strong determination to walk off the sand with a dragon, that determination did not include a green - and especially not a blue - life partner. Indamor took several steps back as the blue dragonet strode towards him, his eyes wide with a deep seated fear. He hated blues, but more than that - and unbeknown to most of those he spent time with or around - he feared blue dragons, the way some people feared spiders or big dogs. The pre-teen was near trembling when the screech of fury rang out, and his head almost exploded with the anger he suddenly felt.

That wasn't his.

Huge eyes watched as the blue snorted and moved away, revealing in his place a fat little bronze lump, who looked utterly outraged. He frightened you! Clearly, that was not something anyone - or anything - had any right to do. Indamor's eyebrows arched up slightly, and he gave an almost invisible  nod of agreement, though he certainly wasn't about to confirm such a thing out loud. The dragonet gave a disgruntled sounding hurrumph, and made his way to Indamor's side. He matters not, he stated simply, moving past the silent boy, and towards where he knew - because Indamor knew - he could be fed. Are you just going to stand there?

"No," Indamor responded, taking several quick paces to catch up to his dragonet, and walking beside him towards where the others were. He made a bit of a detour, to meet his father - and put up with rather well, in his opinion, the unorthodox hug he received. "Rhezalth," he informed them both, blinking in slight surprise and amusement at his knowledge of the dragonet's name. His face then split into a massive grin, and he hugged his father back tightly. "Bronze Rhezalth!"

"And you?"

N'mor. Rhezalth informed both of them, and anyone else close enough to hear, as he buried his muzzle in a bucket of meat - completely oblivious to the way his young bonded stiffened, or his father's eyes widened slightly with a pasty look. Indamor shifted his weight uncomfortably. "Are yo-"
Yes.
Indamor frowned in worry up at B'jin for a moment, before stepping back hesitantly, and joining his dragonet so he could monitor the food the fat hatchling was eating.
I'm fat?
"Yeah, Rhezalth. And you have ichor on your nose. Here... Oh."
That's my hide! Be gentle!
"You are so weird."

Bordtai had stood with great anticipation once again as a second hatchling considered him this clutch.  Sure, she was a green, but she was still a child of Torath’s and therefore good enough for him!  Holding his breath, the thin boy watched her pull up to her haunches to seemingly give him deep consideration… before putting her forepaws on his chest and knocking him over with a chitter that sounded something similar to a wicked little laugh.

He’d heard his shirt tear but Bordtai was in too much surprise to have the dragon laugh about knocking him over and walking away to bond with another boy to realize that the dragon had actually torn through his shirt and left light, long scratches with her clumsy claws.  Instead he sat there for a moment in apparent shock.

If he was shocked by the green’s actions, then the actions of the bronze who soon joined him would prove to be even more befuddling as he was nudged and encouraged back onto his feet by a surprisingly sturdy little bronze.  If he didn’t know any better he’d think the bronze was agreeing with his father that Bordtai needed to not lose hope.  He couldn’t say if the encouragement was working or not when the little bronze walked away to impress to Quenym.  Of all people, he had to leave Bordtai for the troublemaker Quenym!

Bordtai looked across the sands at the great bronze Torath, wondering if the bronze knew something he didn’t or if they really were both just being too hopeful.  After the incedent with the green and bronze the last of the hatching went by in a quick blur.  Perhaps he was still in shock or perhaps the sting that spread warmth across his chest was too distracting.  Either way when Indamor walked off the sands with his own bronze, Bordtai turned and left, not even glancing to see who the little gold queen had impressed to and instead making his way straight to a bathing house.

’Torath?’  Bordtai asked silently, half expecting the dragon not to hear him, but half hoping that since he’d reached out during the hatching that he might, just maybe, be willing to listen for the boy.  ’Torath, if you can hear me... I might need N’kal.  He didn’t know how bad his chest was, in honesty he really didn’t want to look down at it.  He knew it couldn’t be that bad, he wasn’t bleeding everywhere and leaving a trail – but that didn’t stop the fact that he was bleeding a little bit.

Another hatching… another day left standing.

If you would like Dee, I’d like to do a thread with those two patching him up (it’s nothing serious) after we finish our other one from the other pc hatching.  xD

Vee had been in a bit of a daze after the gold Impressed Casa, and had to be prodded by one of the other girls to make her way off the sands. None wanted the chance of a green coming to them, or Faranth forbid a blue. Vee was in the way and needed to move along with them to get out of the way. Once along the edges she watched a couple of other dragons hatch and Impress, but left the sands all together when she saw a brown Impress to Leyton. She was glad the boy had Impressed, any child of K'ton's deserved to be a dragonrider and she was certain that he would be just a great a rider as his father.

She had a sad sort of smile on her face, and she searched for K'ton again, almost willing to laugh at the fist pump he did at his son's Impressing. She could not blame him at all, were it Evritt she would have been extremely excited and proud. The ache in her heart grew, and before anyone could ask her anything she left and made her way to anywhere but the sands. She wanted to be alone, so that she could let her heart bleed out all the pain through tears she wished no one else to see.

Torath and N'kal watched the hatching with great interest. N'kal was quite impressed himself that there were three bronzes, several browns and blues, though a few too many greens for his liking. They were needed of course, like all dragons were, he just preferred to see more browns and blues than greens. However the gold made up for it, the gold and her....very young rider. Oh well, the dragon's knew what they were doing, if she wanted the girl, there was nothing for it. I am sure she will do fine, Torath rumbled at him as they continued to watch the hatching.

As they had the last time, they did not plan to move until all of the hatchlings were Impressed and fed, then taken off the sands to their new rooms in the weyrling barracks. That plan altered when Torath picked up on Bordtai's faint thoughts. He rarely troubled with the thoughts of others, but the emotion that overwhelmed the boy's thoughts and heart made his request come through. He turned his head slightly, his great eyes swirling with the bright blues and purples of happiness, but there was the very faintest hint of yellowish color there, as he felt some slight concern in regards to the boy who had become a friend of sorts to his rider.

Torath rumbled deeply but turned his head back again, to watch his children and their new bonds. Bordtai has requested your presence, he said smoothly. He gave another rumble before adding, He seems quite distressed. N'kal in response to this turned his head and instantly searched for the small boy who had been left standing yet again, though he had been hoping the bronze that had seemed to help him stand after being knocked over by a green, would Impress to him. He had been quite puzzled at the fact that the hatchling would bother with him, but not Impress to him. Even Torath had found that odd, as even he wouldn't bother with another unless N'kal suggested him too, or it was someone he actually liked.

He is hurt, the bronze added as an afterthought. He was watching his children with great pride and crooned softly at Okalinath. She had done a wonderful job clutching such wonderful dragons. Their children would grow strong with their bonds. N'kal was proud of the clutch as well, but now that all was said and done, and all safely bonded with minimal injuries he said Well of course he is hurt, he was left standing again., he told Torath absently as he watched the kid walk away defeated. Torath huffed and tilted his head to eye N'kal, slightly annoyed with his rider. Had he been able to roll his eyes, he would have. He is injured. One of my little daughters knocked him over...even my memory is not THAT bad N'kal.

Oh....shut up!, he muttered and stood up and made quick work of climbing up his leg and shoulder. Once he was situated he said, Let's go find him then, to which Torath rumbled and happily complied, moving as quickly and safely away from the sands as he was able, in search of Bordtai.

Ryvian wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel when a little green hatchling came towards him and started sniffing about his feet that were growing a bit chilly from the dampness and impending storm. Had he Impressed to her? Was he just fascinating to her? What was she doing around him? Should he be upset she wasn’t talking to him or relieved since she was a green and while he wasn’t a colourist, he didn’t think he’d be a good fit for dragon type. In the end, the dragonet moved along to her actual bonded and Ryvian heaved a sigh that conveyed all of his confused emotions on the matter. He hadn’t been wanted by yet another dragonet but he was still alive. It wasn’t the end of the world like it once had seemed like.

It was when the second green dragonet found him and took to using him as a shield by hiding between his legs, that Ryvian started to wonder what was going on. Had he Impressed this one? Why were the green hatchlings all coming to him now? There was a slight theory forming that maybe they sensed he was kind and would be a good protector to them, as if he was destined for a strong colour that had influence. Then again, maybe he just came off as girly and gave the female dragons comfort in a sisterhood manner. Great; dragons considered him to be their little sister. If it was anything like friendships with humans, that meant they would never have a deeper bond. He was friend-zoned for life.

“Are you—yup, you are,” Ryvian had leaned over to look at the dragonet trying to bond with his legs just in time to see her take off to find her actual mate. It was odd, but he didn’t quite mind. The Hatching was winding down and he suspected it wasn’t meant to be, even before the last two finally cracked shells.

A blue and a bronze. He’d be happy with either but neither so much as even glanced his way as they both headed for Indamor. He didn’t know too much about the kid since they had different circle of friends given their ages and stages in life, but the bronze that finally claimed him seemed a far more natural fit than a blue.

That was that.

He was pleased to see everyone hatched safely and found their mates and was extra happy to see Casa with the gold. She was a sweet kid and Ryvian had a feeling she’d be a wonderful and attentive dragonrider. He’d have to congratulate her but it’d have to wait. There was always a line up to see the babies, especially the gold ones, and he’d see her at the gathering. For now, he’d head home and ponder why he wasn’t nearly as gutted as he had grown to be when it came to Hatchings. He was disappointed, naturally, but there wasn’t a desire to give up either. Maybe it was the dragonet’s influential words still lingering in his mind that made him want to keep trying. The little fella – or girl, since Ryvian missed seeing what came out of the shell – wouldn’t remember the connection they had, but he would and that was the important part.

While he wouldn’t call it a smile on his face as he meandered off the Sands with the others that were leftover, Ryvian wasn’t frowning or in shock either. It was just another bump in the road that he would recover from.

There is Impression, then there is the ‘yay, I searched that kid!’ Impression – then there is the ‘FUCK YEAH MY BOY IMPRESSED BRONZE MOTHER FUCKERS’ – and that was pretty much where B’jin was at as Indamor and the young bronze dragonet Impressed, the greenrider letting loose a whoop of delight even as he spun around to kiss R’nd soundly before dancing on the spot in joy. Indamor got bronze! Bronze! His boy had Impressed a bronze – a bronze!

He’d thought for sure that little blue was going to pick his boy, and while B’jin would have been very disappointed – his kid was worth more than a blue hide! – he hadn’t dared hope and then the boy had, he had! A bronze! A wonderful, amazing, worthy bronze! B’jin laughed softly, brown eyed gaze sweeping the Sands to make sure they were all indeed Hatched (every last one!) before spinning around to throw his arms around R’nd in delight before the bluerider could sneak off.

Kissing R’nd again with laughing lips, B’jin reluctantly released the bluerider and stepped away from him. He had twenty seven (well, technically fifty-four) youngsters to herd off to bed in the Weyrling Barracks and then he had so much paperwork to fill out before he would get to go to bed himself. It could wait until morning, but B’jin would rather get it over with; flashing another smile at R’nd, B’jin spun around to start collecting his new ducklings.

The youngsters were herded into the closest end of the Weyrling Barracks, before being further shuffled off to their own rooms; there would be plenty of time to check out each other’s dragonet in the morning! With dragonets and youngsters alike collapsing not too long after arrival, B’jin made his way to his own room, sighing dramatically as he lit a glow and set about getting the paperwork settled before the morning rolled around.
