09.11.233 AL - 7am onwards.

B'jin had no idea R'nd shared his birthday with Amorandii. What B'jin did know was that the little girl was turning seven, that she was beyond excited about it (if there was anyone in the Weyr not aware if exactly when the little girl's birthday was, Bjin would have been impressed) and that there was no way he was facing the day alone. Therefore, R'nd would be suffering through it with him, and since B'jin knew R'nd spent time around his children with much the same level of enthusiasm as most people displayed walking on molten glass, B'jin also knew that he owed his lover. A lot.

Unfortunately, keeping excitable seven year olds from being too outrageous was bound to be utterly exhausting, and B'jin knew he wouldn't have the strength to thank R'nd properly for his assistance following the days events. So he started with the night before. Had he known the date of his lovers birthday, B'jin may have put more planning into the evening instead of just winging it. As it was, the greenrider had managed to keep both himself and his partner up for the vast majority of the night, with B'jin digging up a few new tricks that he hadn't personally shared with the younger man, intent on making sure R'nd was well aware if how much his company would be appreciated the following day.

B'jin could, however, be remarkably demanding when the mood struck, and while a full nights sleep likely would have been th best course if action before Amorandii's birthday, sleep wasn't something the two men were gifted with until only a few hours off dawn - B'jin being sure that Amorandii would at least be kept occupied by her mother or crèche until a more reasonal hour. H should have known better, as R'nd's front door burst open, followed shortly there after by the excitable child coming exploding into the bedroom, and throwing herself onto the bed. B'jin shifted carefully, far more sleep than awake, to protect both his own and R'nd's groins from the uncaring child.

"Daddy! Wake up! Daddy?" Amorandii's voice could generally be considered pleasant, but functioning on only a couple hours sleep, B'jin just grumbled incoherently in R'nd's neck about killing someone, specifically the child's mother. "Daddy! Ayyonth said I could have cinnamon buns for breakfast!" B'jin mumbled into R'nd's neck again, not quite sure if he was willing to believe the little girl's claim. "And Larrikith said we could go flying and the lady in the kitchen will make me the BEST cake and daddy, daddy wake up!" Amorandii poked B'jin in the cheek, giggling as he buried his face under R'nd, who was given a child's sloppy kiss to the cheek.

"Uncle! You should get up too!" The child scrambled off the bed, making good B'jin's protective measures as she landed a knee in his gut and barely missed things that should not be the victim of a child's uncaring disregard, and B'jin grunted as she ran out the door. It was far, far too early to be so rudely awoken! Freeing himself, B'jin poked R'nd lazily until the blue rider flopped into his back, and B'jin slid provocatively atop him, kissing sleepy lips.

"Good morning, my love." B'jin murmured between gentle kisses, instructing Larrikith to keep the child out of the bedroom as he got R'nd to wake up and face the day. If the green dragon seemed particularly more smug and amused than usual, B'jin didn't pick up on it as hot kisses made their way down R'nd's body, the green rider wriggling backwards as he went...

~ ~ ~

B'jin was smiling cheerfully as he plucked a shirt from R'nd's fingers and dropped it back on the chest of clothing. "Wear something less pretty, love. Cinnamon buns for breakfast, and Faranth only knows what else she's wheedled out of the crèche workers. Sticky fingers." He wriggled his own for emphasis, and kissed his friend softly, a devious little smile playing over the corners of his lips. "Gotta keep what you've got left safe," kissing R'nd again, B'jin laughed gently as he tugged a shirt on over his own head, and tied the laces at the front modestly.

"Daddy," the planitive whine sounded through the door, and B'jin bit back another laugh, clearly awake and ready to face the day as he hopped in the spot for a moment, tugging on pants, "aren't you ready yet?" Oh, the answers to that question! B'jin flashed R'nd a wicked smirk before answering his daughter, belting his pants up. "R'nd couldn't find his pants." The laughter in his vice was missed by the child, who huffed irritably on the far side do the door. The cinnamon buns would be getting cold!

Brown eyes sparkling, B'jin flourished a bow towards the door, and waited cheerfully for R'nd to lead the way out.

R’nd mumbled incoherently when a chipper voice came flooding into the room and the bed rocked with the weight of an excitable young girl. His brain wasn’t functioning on high enough a level to even figure out if he was covered under the blanket or if he should murder his dragon for letting the girl enter the hut. Thankfully, B’jin had instincts R’nd had yet to develop and already made sure they were covered and protected from Amorandii’s enthusiasm. Cinnamon buns would be a wonderful way to start the day, Ayyonth added almost as cheerfully as Amorandii had been when she explained the blue dragon said it was okay. Whether he did or not wasn’t clear but R’nd knew the pest he was bonded to well enough to know Ayyonth would support the idea now.

He wasn’t mad at the girl, though. How could he be? True, it was early but Amorandii was sweet and had him wrapped around her little finger. It was also her birthday. Technically, it was his as well but R’nd had always kept the date hidden from all but a few people and they knew not to make a fuss out of it or let others know. B’jin didn’t even know though R’nd almost told him at the end of the celebrating they had done on the greenrider’s day. It was better the day was given to Amorandii so she could be the centre of attention and spoiled properly.

A small smile appeared when he received the sloppy little girl kiss but it turned into a playful grin when the child left and B’jin crawled atop him to give proper kisses. “The morning is definitely looking good now,” R’nd replied before promptly forgetting the girl on the other side of the door.

~~~
R’nd chuckled when his shirt was stolen and he was told to try again. He liked all of his shirts and didn’t like the idea of anymore of them being ruined. The idea to wear the shirt that was covered in paint from their time in the Square was tempting but that held special memories and even though it was technically ruined already, R’nd didn’t want to ruin the ‘B’jin Masterpiece’ that was created from their fun. “What I have left may be safe but they still run a risk of running away.” R’nd grinned as he finally settled on a shirt and slipped it on.
“Hey now! No need to make the birthday girl upset with me,” R’nd protested with a pout even as he finished dressing. Amorandii was sweet but she could level a wicked glare as well as she could pout! He did not want to be on the receiving end of that anymore than he wanted Indamor to stare at him. B’jin had unsettling children.
A quick kiss was planted on B’jin’s lips before R’nd headed to the living room to greet the pretty little girl. “Happy birthday, Amorandii!” he crouched down and held out his arms for a hug and kissed the top of her head before setting her free. He made a show of admiring her dress and complimented it several times as she showed it off for them. The spoiled brat seemed to have as large a wardrobe as he did! Well, had given how quite a few items were now missing and R’nd was inclined to believe B’jin wasn’t the only thief. “I would be honoured if I could be your date for the day, Lady Amorandii.”
“Well I’m certainly not going to have her mad at me!” B’jin teased in response, keeping his voice pitched low so the girl wouldn’t hear him. He was perfectly aware that it was his fault they were taking so long – he wasn’t about to tell Amorandii that, however! Brown eyes sparkling and grinning cheerfully, B’jin stepped lightly after R’nd, almost – but not quite – bouncing as he followed his lover.
The greenrider hid a smile behind his hand as Amorandii looked up at R’nd, utterly scandalised. He probably would have laughed less, if he had realised how similar to his own that expression was. “You can’t be my date!” the little girl’s voice was as scandalised as her face. “You’re my uncle.” She gave him a dirty look, as if suggesting such a terrible thing was beyond him, before leaning in and whispering with great confidence. “Anyway. Daddy would be jealous.” B’jin barely managed to turn his laugh into a cough, and ended up choking on it.
“I don’t think he meant literally, Amorandii.” B’jin said once he’d regained the ability to breath, and he stepped forward, stopping by R’nd’s side and squatting down to whisper with just as staged a voice as his daughter had used moments before, brown eyes widening dramatically. “I’m sure I can share him for just one day!” A bright wink was tossed at R’nd, lips twitching into a laughing smile as Amorandii considered what her father had said before throwing herself at the bluerider and hugging his waist. “Okay then!”
Cinnamon buns for breakfast, I believe! The green dragon pitched in helpfully, shoving her way in so she could stick her nose in the door with a great snort, watching the humans with interest. C’mon, before the other brats eat them all! Amorandii gave a squeal of horror and released R’nd by shoving herself away from the bluerider and dashing towards the dragon. “Hurry up! Hurry up!” By the time B’jin and R’nd made it out the door, the girl was all settled atop Larrikith and flapping her hands impatiently at them while Larrikith rumbled with laughter.
“You’re not flying without straps, Andi.” B’jin could be reckless with his own flights on Larrikith, but there was no way under the sun he was letting Amorandii fly around without riding straps. We’re not going to fly! Larrikith pitched in, standing up and bumping her tail against Ayyonth as she snorted at the humans. We’re going to walk because B’jin is a stick in the mud. So you can walk too! With another rumble and the dragon literally sticking her tongue out at B’jin, the green pranced off with her wings half extended and Amorandii laughing delightedly.
B’jin just stared after them for a moment. “Today is going to be really long.”
R’nd froze in horror as the girl denied him. It didn’t truly bother him like someone a more appropriate age turning him down would but he didn’t know how to react to his playful comment being shot down so quickly. He thought they got along well but he had stumbled somewhere and now Amorandii was scandalised and he probably ruined her birthday! Thankfully B’jin was a far better father than R’nd and knew how to swoop in and fix everything to the point that R’nd was given a large hug and all was forgiven again. A grateful look was given to his friend as R’nd followed the crowd outside.
Nothing should have surprised him anymore when it came to time spent with the green pair but still Larrikith announcing they would walk and calling B’jin a stick in the mud did it. R’nd blamed the fact that he hadn’t been awake for long and lacked in being filled with klah. “I think you’re right,” R’nd agreed with a slight groan as Ayyonth started to prance along behind Larrikith without any passengers.
“Hey, park it!” R’nd called out to Ayyonth who laughed within his mind in return but did come to a stop. A playful look was given to the humans before Ayyonth further behaved and crouched down to allow the men to climb up. R’nd knew B’jin wasn’t fond of riding a dragon that wasn’t his own but since they were apparently walking and Larrikith had already abandoned them, it didn’t seem like there was much choice. To help make up for the ride, R’nd nibbled on B’jin’s neck for most of the trip.
Breakfast was just as crazy as expected with too much sugar and babbling going on around him. R’nd did his best to keep up with the stories as he guzzled back the klah and nibbled on a couple cinnamon buns of his own. He did love those sticky and sweet treats! So far, he had yet to wear anyone’s breakfast and to the bluerider, that was an excellent start to the day. He knew he had jinxed himself with that thought though and couldn’t help but wonder what would be the substance that ruined his shirt by the end of the day.
“So what’s next on the agenda?” R’nd finally managed to ask near the end of the meal when there was a small lull in conversation due to Amorandii drinking her juice. He knew vaguely what B’jin had arranged but R’nd had been under the impression it was more a party that would last a few hours rather than a never-ending event that started at the crack of dawn.
“Death?” B’jin asked, his voice low under the renewed babbling of Amorandii and his eyes dramatically wide as he stared at R’nd desperately. An amused twitch on the corner of his lips belied him, but the greenrider was more than a little tired from the rather occupied night before, and wasn’t overly keen on filling his veins with klah. The withdrawal he’d suffered when he and N’mall had been living in exile had dampened his desire to drink the liquid beyond the occasional cup, and the taste tended to bring up less than entertaining thoughts. He’d rather guzzle R’nd’s fellis laced grain stew stuff… if it could rightly be called food.
Instead, B’jin was attempting to mainline sugar, as he nibbled on a shocking amount of cinnamon buns, several glasses of juice, and various other sweet items that were being brought forth by the kitchen staff on duty that morning. He felt somewhat ill from the excess sugar, but he was quite sure he would be awake fairly soon, and likely crash twice as hard as the children when the false energy left his system. Breaking up a warm berry pie and eyeing the way it dripped onto his plate with a comical expression, B’jin nibbled on a piece of stained pastry as he spoke to R’nd.
“Par’a helped me set up one of the rooms at Crèche for Amorandii and her friends, and what gifts she’s getting should be there by now.” He had had to leave his at Par’a’s house ever since Amorandii realised he had gotten her something. He couldn’t risk hiding it at his own or R’nd’s for fear the little girl would sweep through like a summer storm and destroy the buildings looking for whatever it was that was awaiting her discovery. Tipping most of the contents out of the other half of the little pie, B’jin continued to nibble on the pastry. “They can destroy that, and there were a handful of weyrbrats that got themselves into some trouble that will be on clean up duty.” B’jin was damned if he was going to clean up after a bunch of pre-teen brats!
Leaning over to give R’nd a slightly berry touched kiss, B’jin stood up and clapped his hands, before ordering the party onwards, and ushering the children out of the kitchen. The greenrider made a quick detour on his way out long enough to wash his hands and splash his face with cool water, before hurrying to catch up to the party of terrors. What had possibly made him think a birthday party for his little girl would be a good idea? You got no say, Larrikith laughed. The dragon paused, considering, before continuing. Just wait until she’s turning sixteen! Larrikith sniggered, and B’jin died a little inside. She’s not allowed to turn sixteen. Do you have any idea how old that would make me? She can just stay seven. Larrikith laughed more. I don’t think it works like that, love.
B’jin pushed his way into the room that had been designated for Amorandii’s birthday, which was announced in loud, painted words on paper across the length of the wall, and found the girl already in there, dancing anxiously around the small pile of presents she had managed to accumulate. B’jin’s eyebrows arched upwards slightly in surprise; the child had a lot more than he’d expected, and he shook his head in amusement. Little brat. “Yes, you can open them!” B’jin laughed, when the girl danced around him anxiously with desperation before squealing and giving him a quick hug. He watched her bolt over to the small pile and began rummaging through it.
B’jin grabbed R’nd’s hand lightly and lead the bluerider over to the other side of the room, and pushed him gently to sit, the greenrider near sitting on him when he took up the space beside him. Uncaring what might be said or thought, B’jin curled up against R’nd and rested his head on the other man’s shoulder, watching Amorandii squeal over her gifts. “A couple of crèche workers are going to run the games for the kids,” he explained, pointing lazily at a couple of women that were setting up something that looked like it involved a stick and an innocent papier-mâché creature (a wherry, from the looks of it). “I don’t advise moving while they play that game. It can be dangerous to your health.”
R’nd had initially thought about lending a hand with the cleaning up of the party but enjoyed knowing others would do it and he wouldn’t be frowned upon for not doing his share of the less savoury portion of having a celebration. He also liked the idea of sitting back and watching the kids play, or he did until B’jin brought up bodily harm. He tensed as the wherry and weapons were spotted and cringed. He had never actually played such a game when he was young but R’nd knew about it and had seen a few happen in Katila. Children with sticks were dangerous. Very dangerous. R’nd became perfectly still, even though the game hadn’t been brought up yet.
It was only when Amorandii found the gift he had given her that R’nd relaxed again and smiled. “Tell Larrikith I’m sorry if she ends up as the blue dragon one day.” He spoke softly, amusement dancing in his words as the young girl discovered her new pots of paint within the box. The idea came to him a while ago and R’nd had thankfully kept it mind, calling in a few favours to get the colourful paints created for him. He only hoped it was only the green dragon that ended up painted and no more articles of clothing! When the birthday girl came running and squealing, R’nd leaned forward and readied himself for the flying hug that hit seconds later. “You’re welcome, Amorandii. Happy birthday.”
The girl was given a quick kiss to the top of her head and sent back to finish with her gifts so they could move on to the games. When the piñata was jostled by an excitable child, R’nd sat back and did his best not to use B’jin as a human shield when he slipped his arm around the greenrider’s waist. “Earlier when you said death was on the agenda, I wasn’t too keen on that idea but right now I think it’d be a bit quieter.” He still wasn’t used to children and a group of them could make so much noise! Surely he hadn’t been that loud with his siblings when they were young.
“So, when is nap time?” It was a wishful thinking question since R’nd had a sinking suspicion that such things didn’t happen at a birthday party that was fuelled by sugar. No matter how much running around was had, the kids wouldn’t drop and that made for a sad bluerider that longed for a few more hours of sleep.
Bin laughed softly at the way his lover responded to the first of the games, weaving his arm through R'nd's, and giving his knee a gentle and reassuring squeeze, though the laughter didn't fade at all. His expression did change slightly, however, as R'nd began smirking and he pulled back slightly to eye the bluerider curiously. When an explanation was given, B'jin snorted out a soft laugh and smirked himself. He released R'nd just before Amorandii threw herself at the poor bluerider, watching as the girl danced around excitedly. His own gift for the girl, a plaited leather necklace with a delicate golden coloured rock that was shaped to look like the sun peeking out from behind a grey coloured cloud, had already found its way aorund Amorandii's neck and B'jin gave it a gentle flick when she leaned over to hug him before dashing away to bash the impersonated Wherry with a stick.
B'jin laughed softly at R'nd, and leaned over to kiss his cheek gently before curling back up and watching the children, shaking his head playfully at his lover. "Likely, but I'm sure they'd follow us." Or at least the noise! B'jin was fairly sure the racket they were making could be heard across the entire Weyr, if not into the depths of between itself! Little brats were clearly having fun, and really, that was what mattered but B'jin would be very happy when the sugar crashed and they all flaked. If they were lucky!
"Nap time?" The greenrider's features twisted mischievously and he stared up at R'nd. He clucked his tongue and shook his head in mock disappointment, sitting up taller and eyeing R'nd thoughtfully. "Naps are for children!" The wicked look he then levelled on R'nd spoke volumes of just how not a child R'nd was in the greenrider's eyes, and he smiled sweetly. "Are you tired, my love?" An innocent flutter of honeyed lashes followed.
The greenrider's play was interrupted by the first crack of stick on hardened paper, and he jumped viciously in surprise with an inelegant squeak, and wide blinking eyes before he burst into a peal of laughter. Throwing his arms around R'nd, B'jin cuddled against the bluerider still trembling with the soft sound of his laughter, eyes bright with amusement.
Surprisingly, R’nd didn’t see himself being called a child by B’jin and seeing the wicked look he was given only helped to verify he was right in thinking that way. He knew he was younger than B’jin but never put much thought into what the actual age gap was or how there was a chance his lover had children the same age as him. It helped that B’jin didn’t look much older than him, though R’nd was too laid back and versatile to be bothered by the age even if there were physical indicators.
“Tired of behaving and keeping my hands from wandering on you,” R’nd gave a devilish grin as he made a show of eyeing up the greenrider before adding, “or perhaps nap time is just my new ploy of getting you into my bed sooner rather than later.” He knew there wasn’t any issue with that! B’jin always came willingly to his bed and even when sleeping was the actual item on the agenda, they often ended up being far more active than that. R’nd had more to say on the matter of B’jin and beds but the crack that symbolized the paper wherry was about to meet its timely death shut him up and made for a shuddering bluerider.
R’nd wrapped an arm around B’jin when he had the giggling greenrider clinging to him and held him close. It was more to keep himself safe from the wild children but if it gave off the illusion he was helping B’jin at all, he’d go with that as well. He was so pathetically useless when surrounded by brats! More like hilariously entertaining, Ayyonth chimed in, voice rich with laughter. R’nd was a confident young man most of the time but being near children had an interesting affect on that and he turned into a worried little boy. The children served as a nice distraction as well though. R’nd had been worried about his birthday and turning thirty. It didn’t seem to bother him one bit that his lover was older than him but to turn thirty himself? Ayyonth couldn’t believe the drama one man could come up with. It wasn’t the end of the world or the end of his youth, especially since he had hardly aged since the day they bonded. Humans were silly things.
When the wherry finally fell to pieces and the kids scrambled to claim prizes, R’nd laughed at the sight. It was a violent game but in an odd way it promoted teamwork and how it paid off in the end no matter who took the final swing. Still, he was relieved when it ended and the brave caretakers ushered the group into the next game which seemed to be ‘dragon, dragon, wherry’. Unfortunately Amorandii seemed to think her “date” for the day needed to play as well and R’nd soon had the birthday girl tugging on his hand. R’nd shot B’jin a look that pleaded silently for help but just as quickly as he gave it, R’nd was giving in and untangling from his lover to go play the children’s game. It was something he was used to play rather recently thanks to his time spent in R’nya’s wing so he knew it wouldn’t be too horrible.
As he was dragged along, R’nd held out his hand for B’jin and shrugged. Whether the greenrider wanted to join or watch was up to him as the bluerider laughed at the insistent tugging of one strong little girl moving him toward the circle.
B'jin laughed, both bright and devious, as R'nd was tugged away from him by Amorandii, smirking and shaking his head playfully and as if he had no idea what it was R'nd was asking of him. He knew perfectly well both that R'nd was inviting him along, and what punishment the game would be. B'jin hated exercise, and he hated being watched when he was forced into such situations. While B'jin could handle his own, the greenrider was far from dragonrider ideal. Instead, he was lightly toned from the required efforts of Larrikirth's needed bathing and scrambling up an drown her rounded body, rather than from any desire of his part to be physically fit or trim.  His physique was the minimal result of his livelihood, and not a lot else.
B'jin shifted his seat, bringing one foot up so he could sit, calf folded under the opposite leg's thigh, and watch his lover get bullied by excited children, wondering exactly how deaf the poor bluerider would be by the time they were allowed by Amorandii to escape the events of her birthing day. Judging by the excited squealing, yelling and screamingly, B'jin was quite sure he was going to be deaf before th day was up, and he wasn't even all that close to them! He smirked, picking at a fingernail as he watched the game from under his lashes.
You're not going to rescue the poor man? Larrikith asked, the green dragon's tone was riddled with amusement as she watched through her riders eyes the events that were going on before him. B'jin sent back a flurry of amusement, but no true through for a few moments, lifting his amused brown eyes to watch as a pair of children dashed around the circle of friends, one chasing the other with great determination. He seems to be enjoying himself, Bjin snorted, watching as R'nd was picked and forced to chase a child. B'jin did not envy him the task of figuring out how fast to run to be 'chasing', but slow enough to not be a bully. I don't imagine the game will last much longer, he added, snorting as Amorandii became a chaser, and would in return become a chased. He didn't imagine she would suffer the indignity of being 'out' for very long, once we was caught.
As if sensing the impending disaster, the group of crèche workers out a stop to the game shortly there after, handing out little sweets as rewards to all the players, and B'jin smirked when one of the prettier young women flourished the sweet to R'nd with what was clearly flirting intents, though he missed the way one of the elder women scolded her moments later, as he came over to flop down beside R'nd on the floor. The next game was on he could play, since it required no effort on his part! Pass the parcel was a good game!
Amorandii was given a very large package, wrapped in sheets of old material made of miss match dyed pieces hastily sewn together to create sheets large enough for the parcel. Inside each later would be small prizes of various types, and the center would hold the grand prize. B'jin was betting on a toy and small wrapped sweets, much like he piñata, but with the group of women running the show, anything was possible. B'jin snorted as one of the women grabbed a set of children's cymbals and sat with her back to the group, and began clanging them together. The parcel began to move around the circle, stopping at odd intervals when the crèche worker randomly stopped her abrasive clanging, indicating a layer of material should come off.
B'jin eyed R'nd sideways, smirking, when the parcel stopped for him. "What'd cha get?" B'jin's smirk widened while Amorandii burst into peals of laughter when they spoke their question at the same time.
R’nd surprisingly didn’t mind playing the game and chasing the kids. It was hard to find the right speed, as B’jin predicted, but he adapted rather quickly in his opinion, and felt the kids were having fun. It was a bit scary when R’nd stopped to think about how comfortable all the munchkins were with him and how he didn’t mind them too much either. It was likely due to being a bit tired, B’jin putting him in a great mood the night before, and making sure Amorandii had the best birthday to date.
Still, there was a lot of relief when the game was ended and a new and more sedated one was about to begin. When the flirtatious assistant gave him the candy, R’nd grinned and exchanged some comments with her. He’d always been one to compliment everyone and give light touches, smiles, and words to anyone and not always realize he was flirting. It was just the way he was. The scolding the woman got a moment later went unnoticed by the bluerider as well since B’jin came into his view and that was currently the most important person or thing in the room right then.
R’nd smiled as B’jin sat beside him and the greenrider received a light squeeze to the hand that was briefly stolen before the game started. This game seemed much easier and more relaxed, which was likely why B’jin had joined in. When the package passed to him again and the clanging stopped, R’nd laughed and ripped off a layer of paper. Inside he found a little wooden carving of a wild feline, likely meant to be added to a child’s collection of other animals that they could play out stories and adventures with.
With the question asked in stereo, coming at him from both sides, R’nd laughed again and held up the toy. “I rather like it. Well done to the wood worker.” The feline was set on the floor in front of him so he could easily pass the package on to the next person when the clanging started up again.
B'jin was having a grand time! Namely, that was because very little was actually required of him, and B'jin was particularly fond of those types of situations! All he was required to do was pass along the slowly shirnking package when it came to him, and - once - when the awful clashing stopped and he had a hold of it, he unwrapped a layer and discovered a bracelet, with a nicely carved (albeit quite sturdy) little token on it that looked slightly like a dragon's egg carved out of a deep red wood, and waxed so it shone. It had little wooden beads seperated with small knots in the leather. He figured it was supposed to be some type of primise token to the child that got it, which only made him more thsnkful he'd gotten that round, and not his daughter. Holding his right wrist out, B'jin let Amorandii fasten it, giving his wrist a little wriggle after she had finished, and making the bracelet sway.
The game didn't last much longer after that, with the prizes dwindling and each child managing to claim at least one so no one felt left out and - naturally - Amorandii secured the grand prize of the centre piece; B'jin gave a half amused, half annoyed look to the two women in charge of the game, though he only got a smile and shrug in response. While B'jin had no issues with Amorandii winning prizes, even all the prizes, he wasn't keen on her getting the idea that she was supposed to win all the prizes. There were always limits to spioling and he would hate for the party to end in someone throwing a tantrum! He let it slide though, and watched in amusement as Amorandii pawed through her loot, the center of the parcel holding some fun things: there were more of the little animals, and a couple of necklaces alongside some of the hard sugary candy in a little bag.
As Amorandii picked out what she wanted (the bag of sweets) she dumped the rest unceremoniously in B'jn's lap with a charming smile before demanding R'nd find his feet with impatient hands tugging on his own. B'jin smirked up at his lover, not at all insulted at being uninvited to the next game, and stood up with his hands full of Amornadii's prizes. A light kiss was placed on R'nd's cheek. "We can probably escape after this next game or two, dear." B'jin lifted his hands slightly to indicate the loot they held; he could escape on pretence of putting Amorandii's things away, which would naturally include needing R'nd's help. Then they could get lost on the way back. B'jin grinned wickedly. "But you have to play this game first..." Without explaining, B'jin vanished to the edge of the room, sniggering quietly to himself.
R’nd should have been suspicious with the wicked grin he was given and the soft kiss that in hindsight was clearly given to soften the blow of what was to come but he was in a good mood and found maybe children’s birthday parties weren’t too horrifying. They were loud, there was no denying that but the games weren’t too bad and they were filled with sweets! R’nd was never one to deny his sweet tooth and the younger helper at the party seemed intent on feeding the treats to him any time he had a hand free and mouth wasn’t already occupied with the last candy.
It was only when Amorandii giggled and asked if he was ready that R’nd started to get a little nervous about what he was getting into. They were all standing in the circle now instead of sitting which meant no innocently passing a gift this time. It also ruled out another round of ‘dragon, dragon, wherry’ which R’nd was grateful for. It had been hard to gauge how fast he should run and when to let a child be caught or to let them catch him. What came next, however, was something the bluerider never would have expected and had no idea how to respond to the birthday girl when she announced they were about to do the Hokey Pokey.
“I don’t even know what a Hokey Pokey is, let alone know how to do it!” A plea was shot towards B’jin who looked far too amused and even a touch smug from where he sat safely out of the way of whatever was about to happen. Amorandii’s cheerful exclamation that it was easy and to just follow along didn’t help calm R’nd any either. To him, a flirty bluerider with a reputation for bed-hopping nightly back before spending so much time with B’jin, the ‘hokey pokey’ sounded a bit like a code word for something children definitely should not have been taking part in or knowing about! He was about to have a panic attack or call an end to everything when everyone started singing and all in unison, they pointed their right leg into the middle of the circle and then put it behind them in some strange dance.
Realizing it was an innocent song and dance to amuse the children, R’nd tried to follow along, one beat behind the group. He didn’t expect the shaking it all about portion and had stuck his foot back out again. When they were told to do the hokey pokey, R’nd just blinked at the group wriggle on the spot before turning themselves about. It was the strangest thing he had seen in quite some time! As they started to repeat everything but this time with the left foot, R’nd laughed softly at the light smack to his arm from Amorandii as punishment for not doing it properly. He nodded and followed the directions much easier than before and managed to wriggle and twirl with the rest of them.
By the end of the song, R’nd was exhausted. Doing the hokey pokey left him just as drained as some of the drills in wing practice. In fact, he was surprised R’nya had never used it when he was wingleader. R’nd could hear R’nya going on about how it would strengthen their bond and bring them more in synch with each other. That was one odd bronzerider, no doubt about that!
Kneeling down, R’nd shook his head at the pout that usually got him to do anything the girl wanted – it was clearly a family trait since he was especially weak to B’jin’s pout. “I should help your daddy bring some of your loot back home. Besides, you don’t need us cramping your style. You should enjoy yourself.” R’nd was still mastering the fine art of parenting and didn’t notice how his words could come across as encouraging the girl to do as she wanted when B’jin wasn’t around. His child was only two! He didn’t have to worry about Benden doing anything crazy and Volfetti hadn’t lectured him yet on pep talks so R’nd was doing his best to use his charm on Amorandii in a toned down manner from what he would normally use when excusing himself from the company of a woman.
He glanced at B’jin and smiled with a nod to indicate he was ready to go. When B’jin got to his feet in acknowledgment to the idea that going home was the best idea of the day, R’nd turned back to Amorandii and made a show of letting her know he was about to share a secret. “Only a few people know this but today is also my birthday. Sharing the day with you has made it extra special to me, so thank you, Lady Amorandii.”
B’jin was trying, with magnificent determination, not to cry from the hilarity of the entire situation his lover was currently fumbling through; he was not really succeeding, though! With brown eyes full of tears of mischievous hysteria, B’jin was clearly biting down on his bottom lip as he watched the image of R’nd swimming around in his watery vision. It was clearly a pity Larrikith wasn’t viewing the spectacle for herself, to view and share for an eternity, but B’jin knew his memories would be enough! Wait until R’nd saw how adorably funny he looked!
As R’nd bounced around in a wiggling circle (or something, B’jin couldn’t see properly!) the greenrider finally burst out into peals of laughter, tears escaping to tumble down his cheeks as he tried to breathe through the mountain of just how funny he found the entire scene. B’jin hiccupped at the nod he received, bouncing to his feet as he wiped at his face with straggling giggles. Trying to bring himself under control – and failing spectacularly – B’jin gathered up the things he’d had near him that belonged to Amorandii, and as a result, missed the way R’nd opted to tell her a little secret.
Arms loaded with the little girl’s gifts and prizes, B’jin made his way over to where R’nd was, and managed to look at his lover for all of ten seconds before bursting into a fit of giggles all over again. Sparkling brown eyes gave R’nd a teasing look before B’jin leaned over to place a light kiss on Amorandii’s head; his little girl looked like she was about to explode with joy and he could only imagine it was because R’nd had done the wiggly dance with her – B’jin dissolved into giggles again.
“We’ll take these back to your room, okay?” B’jin managed not to completely kill his question with giggles as he flicked another amused look at R’nd. When he looked down at Amorandii, the girl was giving them both a steady look far beyond her years before she smiled sweetly as she thanked them with a cheerful ‘have fun’ thrown over her shoulder as she bounced off to join her friends.
B’jin turned back to R’nd, a devious smirk appearing on his lips. “You’re just full of hokey pokey today.”
Amorandii’s parting words left R’nd staring at the little girl. How much did she know about them? Was B’jin going to lecture him on behaving near the children and in public? Had B’jin even heard through all the giggling he was doing?
“And you’re full of the giggles today,” R’nd replied, torn between smiling and pouting. He knew he was being laughed at for having to work his way through that ridiculous song and dance but he couldn’t get enough of B’jin’s laughter. His giggle fits were absolutely adorable and even contagious. It was likely why the pout didn’t last long and a grin appeared the more that B’jin giggled. Why was the main so perfect in every way? Thankfully, he wasn’t too far caught up in his admiration that R’nd managed to keep from sighing like a love struck girl. He’d never live it down if he did!
Without a word, R’nd offered to carry some of the loot by stepping in close to his lover and picking through the items for what looked like it was in danger of falling. Despite the momentary fear of being lectured about public displays of affection, R’nd gave B’jin a lingering kiss, stepping away with a smile. “This wasn’t too bad of a party, my giggling love.” In fact, R’nd felt he could say he actually enjoyed it. It wasn’t something he wanted to do daily or even monthly but it hadn’t been as horrifying as he had built it up to be in his head.
As they started to head for Amorandii’s room for the brief stop of ditching gifts and treats before continuing on, R’nd couldn’t help the grin that turned into a light laugh of his own. He really had been confused over so many things during that silly dance but it was now a mode of inspiration. “Would you like to learn the rules to my version of the Hokey Pokey?” An eyebrow cocked in invitation and R’nd hoped it was accepted.
Spending the rest of the day in B’jin’s company would be one of the best gifts he could receive. It didn’t matter that the greenrider had no idea it was his birthday and that made it all the more special in R’nd’s mind. B’jin would want to spend time with him simply because he wanted to with no other reason needed.
B’jin watched R’nd pick through the assorted items he was holding, barely refraining from laughing at that, too. Instead, he readjusted his arms and the things he was holding to a more comfortable position. He looked up in time to be at the receiving end of a kiss, and B’jin’s weight swayed forward slightly as R’nd stepped away, but he managed to catch himself before he followed his lover. B’jin stuck his tongue out at R’nd’s comment, laughing. “You can organise the next one,” he teased, smirk growing as he watched his lover’s face.
B’jin laughed, turning around as he walked to look at R’nd, the sound bright, but with undertones of wicked intents. “I might be enticed,” brown eyes sparkled as B’jin eyed his lover playfully; look long and lingering before drifting back up to the bluerider’s face. “Are there many rules?” The smirk would not die, but the man’s voice dropped to whispery tones as he backed into the Weyrfolk Hall door, and pushed it open. His eyebrows arched upwards slightly, still wandering backwards to his daughter’s bedroom and completely ignoring any looks that were given along the way. The greenrider’s full attention was upon his lover.
“Room number one,” B’jin murmured as he opened Amorandii’s door, and made his way over to the bed, where her things were very unceremoniously dumped. The greenrider barely waited for R’nd to follow suit before he was pushing the bluerider out of the bedroom with lusty eyes. Generally, R’nd could tease him out of his clothing just about anywhere – but he wasn’t losing his pants in Amorandii’s bedroom, and he was pretty sure even R’nd wouldn’t go there.
B’jin pushed and prodded his lover along, giggling and laughing as he danced out of reach while darting in often enough to pop buttons or undo laces with some regularity. By the time they reached R’nd’s hut, there was little for his lover to do but shake the items from his frame, while B’jin fled to the bedroom with a wicked and playful laugh. The greenrider slamming the door shut before R’nd could reach it, so he would have time to be on the other side of the bed before the bluerider entered, a mutilated version of ‘tag’ that R’nya would never have let them play.
