No! D’ren!

S’kef’s eyes widened and a smile slithered onto his face.  Someone’s angry he thought, supremely amused. He could feel Tyrrisath’s fear. As bold and unconcerned with authority as he was, the dragon was still a brown, and this situation had clearly bypassed idle banter. Ronarth was not just angry. Ronarth was out of control.

After his disagreements with D’ren, S’kef found it positively delicious. Poor D’ren. Life is so difficult for himhe mused mockingly, thinking back to the man’s unfair favoritism and his own sudden dismissal from his post.  S’kef had once idolized the man. Oh, how he’d been wrong. He wished he was the source of that stupid dragon’s pain right now! How he wished to watch the idiot bronzerider  get what was coming to him!  Hah, if only it had been possible. But things don’t always work out quite the way you like it. S’kef was still pleased.

S’kef watched as the dining hall became lively with concern. Everyone could hear the dragon’s raging voice, and those bonded to dragons of their own could feel the instinctive terror they felt in the face of an insane bronze. S’kef took a moment to calm Tyrrisath, who was anxious but trying his best to remain calm, and waited to see if what he hoped was going to happen would indeed happen.

D’ren deserved whatever foul end befell him, and from the sounds of that dragon, it had finally happened. Ronarth’s raging was intimidating even to S’kef, but the useless beast would be going between soon. What a delightful silence that would be.

The gossip was already fluttering around him. Was D’ren dead? Had Ronarth gone mad? S’kef found he enjoyed it. He reached under the table, gently seizing J’ver’s hand, and gave it a light squeeze. “Poor old bastard,” he remarked, smirking. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Everyone is welcome to post. There is also a thread in the healer hall set at the same time, located HERE. Your characters can be at either, or may leave one and go to the other.

The OOC discussion thread is located HERE

Ronarth is trying to beat his way through the Healer hall.

'So? Wait, did you do something to him?' Erisi was at first thinking she had somehow gotten Ronarth to eat something funny. It was a stretch, but he'd believe that long before he believed what was actually happening.

No, this is not good. Charath sounded oddly nervous, though far from subdued. Ronarth's thoughts and feelings were open to the world, and they made her uncomfortable. Something is wrong with Ronarth's.

'Wait, D'ren?'

Whispers were starting all around him, and soon they were becoming less like whispers and more of flat out gossip. Erisi was trying to tune them out, since he believed Charath to be a far more reliable source of information. However, she was only picking up on a few stray strands of information, and even those did not seem all that reliable. The Green was all the way back at Erisi's hut. She was never fond of socializing with other dragons... outside of tormenting them, but tonight she was not even in the mood for picking on Veeth. And, Faranth, she was always in the mood to pick on Veeth. Whatever was going on had her uncomfortable, and her emotion naturally held sway over Erisi.

He wasn't so much concerned as he was curious. He didn't like D'ren solely for the reason that he was the Weyrleader. D'ren was a symbol, and Erisi would just as likely hate the next man to step up to the plate. Other people were reacting differently, far more outwardly. A few people got up to leave, presumably to go the Healer hall that a dragon was trying to rampage into. It wasn't the smartest idea, and Erisi wasn't keen to follow them. Whatever was going on, he felt like an outsider looking in. Charath's own emotions were strong and influential, he couldn't help but feel a little discomforted as well.

From his shoulder, Harac stirred, hissing loudly at the person sitting across from Erisi. She was far more influenced by Charath and Ronarth than Erisi. Her wings ruffled, and when Erisi lifted his hand to pet her head, she nipped at his fingertips. He pet her head anyways, as if to prove a point, and soon the little Gold was calming down somewhat. "What is going on?" he mumbled to himself, rubbing a hand over his tired face. His food was getting cold, and he could not even be bothered to try and eat it now.

Veeth, she rarely addressed the Blue by his name. Normally she just let her mind touch his, since she couldn't be bothered with treating him with courtesy. Is Valerian all right? She still couldn't be bothered to talk to Veeth for Veeth. The Green was clearly trying to distract herself from the distraught Ronarth, and Veeth was good enough for that. Valerian would be better, though.

Aveleth shrieked.

The usually placid and very rarely vocal dragon's voice tore through the ears of those close to him as he sprung to his feet outside his rider's hut, eyes spinning viciously with heart felt terror. Around his head, Plague fluttered with high pitched chattering, the little green scolding the blue dragon for his rough awakening and his high strung emotions. Plague was always scolding Aveleth.

Z'ia! The young dragon's call was desperate, pathetically so, even for one such as Aveleth, who was known to be timid and jumpy. Z'ia! The additional wail wasn't left without response, as the bluerider appeared from nowhere, throwing himself at his dragon's face and hugging the distraught beast tightly. The entire body of the blue was shaking, trembling in terror as Ronarth screeched his unhappiness.

The sudden spiel from the great bronze dragon, threatening to kill, caused Aveleth to whimper in pure terror, assaulting Z'ia with heavy handed emotions of his fear, utterly terrified the bronze would come after them. Z'ia stroked Aveleth's face gently, cooing under his breath as his fingers played over head knobs and eye ridges. Plague had finally silenced herself, sitting on Z'ia's shoulder with her tail wrapped tightly around his neck. She was trembling a little from the second hand emotions relayed from Aveleth, but was calmed in contrast by Z'ia's determination to convince Aveleth that everything was fine. All would be well!

Tears tumbled down Z'ia's face, spurred by the horrified emotions his dragon was attempting to drown him in. The tiny bluerider paid them no heed as he purred and cooed reassurances to his life mate, slowly managing to calm the dragon. Z'ia breathed a breath of relief when Ronarth was finally silenced, pausing momentarily as he waited for the keening to begin - surely such a fit could only mean death was imminent! - but when it never came, Z'ia frowned, cuddling against Aveleth's face, and wondered what had gone wrong.

"Easy, Kiddo," Z'ia purred, neither voice nor stance giving away his wariness. "It's all going to be fine, I promise." The bluerider wasn't even sure whom he was reassuring, as he brushed curled hair and dried tears off his face. Something was very wrong.
Unless stated otherwise, Aveleth never speaks to anyone but Z'ia

Is he all right? Veeth nuzzled the shoulder of the man in question who had come running to see him when Ronarth started his fussing. Valerian didn’t seem to hold a strong emotion in one direction or the other for D’ren since he was ultimately the reason for bringing the successful young Harper South away from what he knew but it was because of that that Valerian also had Veeth. But there was a fondness for Ronarth and his anger and how clearly distraught he was bothered the young man to no end. But it wasn’t even for that reason that Valerian had come out to see the young blue and cling to his neck, petting the soft hide, and soothing him; it was for Veeth. Valerian could end up in emotional turmoil at times but he was a rock that anchored all of his friends, whether dragon or human, and he was instantly there when Veeth started trembling and curling up afraid of the large bronze that seemed like he would destroy the world at any moment in order to find what or who harmed D’ren.

He is as well as anyone can be with the current events, love. Veeth finally replied, tossing on his new favourite term of endearment he used for everyone regardless of sex or rank or being Charath. He did it to show the mean green that he was fine as well and not cowering like a wimp though it was a wonder he wasn’t more high strung and agitated with the way Quill tried to merge with him with how tightly the firelizard curled up against his forepaws and the way Vex flew in circles above them, chittering at all the commotion that upset everyone.

Charath asks after you. Valerian wasn’t surprised. Erisi was one of his closest friends and his dragon had taken a shining to him right from the hatching and the feeling was mutual. She never spoke to him but she was special and fun to be around all the same. He’d be more shocked if they hadn’t asked after him; especially after the death of Iruvia. Valerian knew his response had shocked a lot of people since they believed he couldn’t do emotions but how could he not react to the incident that could have easily been Allendris, Erisi, Jada… or him? This was different. He was upset from the fear through the bond with Veeth and worried over Ronarth and if they would soon be mourning his loss as well when D’ren died, because that had to be the only reason for the ruckus. Something had to have happened to D’ren and he was in bad shape for a calm dragon to start issuing death threats. That was the scariest part of all; dragons didn’t harm humans but this one was ready for murder.

“Where are they?” Valerian didn’t need to ask what Veeth told Charath, he knew the blue would have said they were fine. The only way he would further dramatise anything would be if Valerian was sick, injured, or extremely upset, but he was still rather calm all things considered. Erisi is at the Dining Hall. Valerian considered going to see his friend, especially since eating was something that should be done at some point that evening, but he wasn’t sure if company would be wanted. Erisi wasn’t a fan of emotions and Ronarth was definitely sparking a variety of them throughout the weyr. Besides, Veeth and the firelizards seemed to need him most right then and as Valerian sat on the ground to lean against Veeth and be swarmed by Vex and Quill who claimed their usual spots, he came up with a new idea. “Tell Charath Erisi can come hang out here if he wants to escape the madness.”

As Veeth relayed the message, Valerian still couldn’t stop wondering what happened and if Ronarth truly would destroy everything to find the apparent culprit.

D’hys hadn’t run so hard in quite some time. By the time he rounded the corner of a hut and slowed down to a jog and finally to a walk, he was panting something fierce. Sweat was dripping down his face and his thin shirt clung damp to his torso. He tried to walk the remaining short distance to his own hut, convinced that doing so would help slow his rapidly beating heart like it often did but this wasn’t a normal run for fitness; he had been scared. Ronarth’s bellowing had spurred him into high gear and when the death threats started coming from the docile dragon, D’hys honestly feared for his well-being. He had been near D’ren’s hut a few minutes before the current show of anger and the bluerider didn’t want to think what would happen if someone had seen him and put two and two together. So he ran fast and hard, his feet knowing the way home on their own; which was good since D’hys’ mind wasn’t on that particular detail of his current situation.

You cannot outrun certain crimes just like you cannot outrun certain memories. D’hys rolled his eyes at Zeianth playing at being a cryptic and negative fortune cookie. It was nice though to have a dragon that always seemed completely unfazed by everything. D’hys needed that right then; needed the love and loyalty and the calming presence despite the wise words that the bluerider chose to ignore as he reached the door to his hut. Yet, instead of going in which had been the plan after a quick look around to see if anyone was regarding him oddly, D’hys hesitated and thought about his friend with the timid young dragon.

How’s Aveleth? Knowing that dragon, he was a basket case and Z’ia had his hands full in keeping the blue calm. It took a moment but Zeianth finally replied with a confirmation that D’hys didn’t really need. Aveleth is afraid of the bellowing and Ronarth’s threats. Z’ia tends to him. D’hys nodded and instead of going inside figured he would be selfless and go check on his usual partner in crime – and that was bad phrasing considering he was actually being a tad selfish in going to see Z’ia to help make it seem like nothing was amiss with him. You’re as rattled as Aveleth. I’m not sure Z’ia wants to deal with two of you.

D’hys mentally flipped off his dragon though he did manage a small grin as he started off for Z’ia’s hut where Zeianth was already headed. Damn dragon had decided a sweaty human on his back didn’t sound appealing and left without him. With the older bluepair there, D’hys was confident they could keep Aveleth – and likely that horrible little green flit – calm until Ronarth himself was silenced. It shouldn’t be long with the way he carried on. D’ren was in bad shape and wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer and D’hys couldn’t find it in himself to care. The man had clearly been losing his mind for a while and was too sympathetic towards the whiny brats from the North. So long as the next Weyrleader was more balanced in his decisions – and by that, he meant favoured dragonriders – D’hys was sure everything would be fine once again.

As the bellowing hit him, J’ver almost dropped his glass of juice – he didn’t drink alcohol regularly despite the dignified and refined image he maintained that would suggest he was a wine snob. That annoyed him as the red liquid would have stained his clothing and there was quite possibly nothing worse than that in life. Luckily he had just been setting it down and easily caught the glass to hold it upright once more. Still, the screaming in his head was enough to give him a headache and Rilaleeyth’s shriek of surprise and soft trembling mutterings he couldn’t make out helped not at all. It was interesting news though so J’ver supposed he would allow for the distress that was making him twitchy. If one was to believe the dumb beast, it sounded like D’ren was in danger of dying.

Served the man right for what he had done to S’kef and him. J’ver was close to smirking but the knowledge that so many people adored their so-called kind Weyrleader kept him from doing so. Ronarth hitting a new octave in his promises of killing someone that made J’ver wince in pain and Rilaleeyth vanish between only to reappear up on the ledge she favoured certainly helped keep the joy out of his expression as well. It was a bit disconcerting that the gentle giant was ready to murder and J’ver felt sorry for whoever ended up in Ronarth’s path, though it couldn’t be a very long path. With a dragon making such a scene, it was sure to be minutes before they had blissful silence once more as the dragon winked between and the death keen started. That would be another annoying sound but one that J’ver didn’t think he’d mind nearly as much.

Be calm, pet. All will be well and Ronarth will not bring harm to us. Why would he? J’ver attempted to soothe his green beauty. Rilaleeyth was essentially the only one in his life that deserved such care, devotion, and attention. He was rather cold-hearted, it was true, but no one and nothing got between a man and his dragon. It will be over soon. Why don’t you find Tyrrisath or even Aveleth to sit with? He doubted the nervous  blue would be much help since his temperament matched Rilaleeyth’s so well but both males brought happiness to his girl and J’ver wanted her to calm down. Ronarth wouldn’t hurt her!

J’ver allowed S’kef to take his hand under the table and sent his mate a knowing look. They were doing their best to show everyone they were indeed a pair but they still kept a lot of gestures to themselves. No need to feed the peasants too many juicy morsels. Speaking of juicy morsels, J’ver did his best to continue eating, plucking up a vegetable and popping it in his mouth, chewing thoughtfully as he watched everyone around them. It was fascinating to see how people reacted in a crisis. One in particular caught his attention and he was close to pointing her out when he recalled her details. One of the females slated as potential gold bait seemed worried, afraid, confused, all the usual emotions of a girl and no doubt S’kef could use it to his advantage and start collecting the potential goldriders among the actual ones. But he chose not to. If Rhaedalyn came to them, then he knew S’kef would put on the charm, but to have him go to her might seem odd and odd actions were not something one wanted to do during such a commotion surrounding the Weyrleader’s health.

Tyrrisath grunted in dismay as Rila's shriek reached him. Rilaleeyth... he groaned, his deep voice strained with his own fear.  Tyrrisath was a strong and stoic creature, but the fury of a maddened bronze was more than he could handle with his usual dignity. He went to her, flicking into sight and landing heavily at her side.

To harm you, he must harm me he assured the little green, pressing his side against her and drawing one wing over her protectively. He spoke with bravado, knowing well that he was helpless before Ronarth, but he showed none of his fear aside from that one small, trembling undertone lurking in his strong voice.

Inside, S'kef scowled. "What the shards," he hissed, pushing back abruptly from the table. Ronarth's screeching finally ended, as did the unnerving rants, but S'kef knew the truth. Tyrrisath knew, and the knowledge came without speaking.

D'ren wasn't dead. But something was still seriously wrong.

The brownrider set one hand on J'ver's shoulder, giving it only the slightest squeeze. "I have an idea," he said softly, almost whispered. He set his jaw and swept in for a quick kiss, heart pounding as he turned and hurried away. This was important! He couldn't waste even a moment! He paid no attention to the whispering around him, shoving his way rudely past any number of curious bodies as he made his way out.

Tyrrisath, where is N'gelt?

I will not leave Rilaleeyth

S'kef growled audibly. "Tyrrisath! You will do as I command you!" he roared, heart hammering all the more as he screamed at the ceiling. A nearby greenrider tried to get out of the way, but he was just a bit too slow. S'kef snatched his shirt collar and pitched him aside, as if offended that the idiot would dare walk in front of him as he made his way to the door. "Get out of my way, whore!" S'kef growled, then cast his murderous eyes on the ceiling again. "Tyrrisath!"

The brown dragon hissed. She needs me more than you do! he scolded venomously. A look of surprise crossed S'kef's face; it was almost as if he'd been punched. Tyrrisath was always so unerringly obedient! These acts of rebellion came so rarely, but S'kef was no more ready to deal with it now as he had been the very first time. The brownrider spit another curse and threw his hands up before stomping outside and disappearing into the chaos of the Weyr.

Tyrrisath growled for a moment before turning and nosing Rilaleeyth. He wrapped her in a reassuring mental blanket, and after a moment of hesitation, he extended it to J'ver as well.  He knew J'ver didn't need it, but he also knew the strange, skinny human would appreciate the fact that his precious Rilaleeyth was so well protected.
