R'nd wasn't off target with his thoughts that B'jin's first desire would be to clean up. His mind was a flurry of thoughts, emotions, so full that the greenrider had gone completely numb, his expression devoid of all emotion as S'kef finally left him alone in the small room that had served as their own for the duration of the flight results, and the occurrences that had followed in its wake.

B'jin had waited, silent and without moving, until he was sure the brownrider had gone. No one would stick their nose in, he was sure, out of fear of S'kef. Funny, how once the very name of the brownrider in question had made all the little hairs down the back of his neck stand up on end in terror; now, all he could feel was the hallow devoid sense of responsibility. It was his fault that the brownrider was so corrupted - his fault alone. It was not B'jin's style to acknowledge that S'kef could have changed that if he had so desired; most particularly since the man had thanked the greenrider for making him what he was that day. A monster. A rapist. A terroriser. Someone who took joy in the sight of another's pain - someone that took pleasure in delivering it. B'jin struggled to his feet, wrestling painfully into the clothing he had been removed from.

His ribs were bruised, maybe broken but he wasn't sure; bruised at least. Talian would tell him the damage later. The greenrider was pleased he wasn't a visible bruiser; no one knew how often N'mall had used him for a punching bag, and he'd been involved with the man for turns; no one but Talian (and R'nd, but he was careful to pretend otherwise) would pick up on just how injured he was. The number of times his head had been forced into contact with the floor, however, had broken the skin, and blonde hair was matted with blood. B'jin's fingers played delicately over the injury, head spinning as he walked across the room. A concussion was the last thing he needed. Sighing as his bland expression altered into a more neutral one, the greenrider slipping out of the room and down the hall, walking close beside the wall and bumping into it at intervals. His head was really pounding.

Love? Larrikith's voice was fuzzy, on the edge of his mind and not quite where he could grasp it. He frowned slightly, pausing in his drunken stumble down the hall to push her gently away. -m --, bath -- Talian. --fine. His thoughts were jagged, broken, and Larrikith gave a creel of distress where she was curled up outside Talian's office; but she didn't move and sad eyes focused on the Healer. He will call us. She told the young man, worried but not willing to smother her rider; she gathered enough to know he wanted to bath before he was pounced on by prying loved ones. They meant well, she knew, but she also knew he wanted his space.

B'jin paused at the doorway of the Hall, using one hand to steady himself against the frame as his gaze blacked out on him again, the other hand allowing his finger and thumb to pinch the bridge of his nose. It was going to be a long walk from Hall to Bathing houses. Taking a deep breath - then rapidly wishing he hadn't - B'jin strode out across the grounds like nothing was amiss. The amount of attention and thought he put into each step would likely be missed by a casual observer, but that didn't make the trek any easier. His knees felt like jelly, and his gaze wouldn't stay focused; stars and light flares flashed before him, and B'jin squinted slightly in response, presumably from the change in lighting. How long had S'kef kept him? Darkness was truly creeping across the grounds, night setting in, there really were stars beginning to twinkle above, but all the greenrider could see were those before him.

Ayyonth! Larrikith's voice was a croon of loving affection as the blue contacted her, the little green near clinging to her young mate as an active mental connection was established. I -- what could she say? Nothing had gone right, and it was her fault. She was hurt, B'jin was hurt, she would guess Veeth was hurt - emotionally, or physically, possibly both - and R'nd was hurt. The single word was smothered in guilt. Sorry... It was a meek whisper, and Larrikith curled in tighter around herself.

B'jin managed to make it to the Bathing houses without being interrupted, strode down the hall with no more than an understanding look from another greenrider (another victim of S'kef? B'jin's stomach churned) and slipped into the first available room. He flung the door shut, and than slid down against it, his head was pounding, his stomach was churning. Oh, fuck! B'jin scrambled across the room to the bucket, the dry heaves eliciting choked cries of pain as the forced action attacked his damaged ribs. Tears toppled down B'jin's cheeks; he had an amazing tolerance for pain, but spewing on an empty stomach was painful enough, adding in damaged ribs was a recipe for disaster all by itself. He clung to the bucket as his gaze blacked out once more.

B'jin... It was a whimper, audible to Talian, to R'nd, and to Ayyonth. She didn't know who to send to her rider; he wouldn't want either of them, but she knew he needed them both. He'll drown! Sudden terror ripped through Larrikith's links as she stood up, eyes spinning with her terror. Her human's mind was a fuzzy field of emotions and nothingness, the result of his concussion that kept her from communicating properly with him, or hearing his full intent in response. She didn't know why she was suddenly afraid the man would drown; perhaps a fear picked up by Talian, or perhaps a buried worry of B'jin's.

The greenrider had pushed the bucket away, when the painful spasms had finally stopped, and clawed his way to his feet, leaning heavily, bodily, against the wall as he shackled out of his clothing and stumbled over to the bathtub. He need a bath, a hot bath, some way to scrub the feel of S'kef from his flesh; some way to try and rinse the responsibility for his monstrosity from himself. B'jin knew it would be futile, even as he scrambled into the bath, his sight useless, and sunk into the water. It was hot, burning hot, and B'jin's lips pulled back in a sneer, bursting the tentative clotting on his lower lip where he had bitten it and making it bleed once more.

"Fuck!"

Fuck his life, and fuck the day he'd ever crossed paths with S'kef! Clenching his teeth, B'jin allowed himself to sink under the surface of the water. His intent to come back up was destroyed as his eyes rolled, and he lost the fight against consciousness. Larrikith gave a shriek of fear, even as R'nd finally burst through the correct door.

[sup]I'll edit this as needed depending on how the Flight thread actually ends. But B'jin wouldn't let me go to bed until I wrote it; I'll open it when the other thread is done and any edits needed have been made >D.[/sup]

Just a little bit longer…

Any time now…

R’nd was driving both Ayyonth and himself crazy with the mental chanting that B’jin and Larrikith would find them soon but it was the only thing he could focus on. He wasn’t in the mood to drink, couldn’t find the desire to eat, wasn’t the type to clean as a distraction, and had convinced himself finding S’kef right now wouldn’t work with his entire wing likely lurking around watching every move he made for the next few days. So he continued to sit on his couch, having only pulled his feet up and under him at some point while staring at the door and willing the greenrider to come find him or for Larrikith to give the okay for the blue pair to come to them. He wanted to give B’jin space and let the man take care of himself when he chose to but this was a different matter entirely and it was getting harder and harder not to intervene any sooner than he was likely allowed to.

If only he hadn’t been stopped earlier! Even if he couldn’t have interrupted the actual flight, he could have prevented anything else that may have happened afterward. Who knew what S’kef did to his prizes once he was of his own mind again? The fact that it was B’jin and they had a history even older than Larrikith, made matters all the worse. Stop. Creating scenarios of what may have happened will not help anything. You can wait like the big boy that you are and you will let B’jin tell you what happened in his own time like you always do. Ayyonth cut off suddenly though R’nd knew there was going to be more to the lecture the dragon had lined up for him but he felt Ayyonth’s attention turn elsewhere. R’nd sat up straight, convinced it was Larrikith and she had news.

You have nothing to be sorry for, my sweet lady, Ayyonth ignored R’nd’s impatient prodding as he sent his affection to the little green that was normally so spunky but now seemed to be of a broken spirit. You are not to be blamed for the actions of others. As he relayed the conversation to R’nd, making sure his distraught human knew where blame was and wasn’t to be laid at the feet of, both tensed and fell silent as Larrikith’s whimper came through to them both.

At the fear and words that followed his lover’s name, R’nd was on his feet and running for the door. I’m coming, Larrikith! As he flung it open, he nearly ran into Ayyonth who was as ready as he was to go find B’jin and make sure he was all right. They didn’t need Larrikith to tell them B’jin had gone for a bath, it was obvious with the hint he would drown but R’nd had already figured out the greenrider would clean up before allowing anyone to see him. They were both idiots to think that was a safe and smart idea! S’kef could have done anything to B’jin that wouldn’t leave him in any sort of condition meant for walking let alone being left unsupervised in a body of water.

The only problem was his mind was too scattered and R’nd didn’t think he could focus clear enough for them to go between. It wouldn’t be a long flight from his hut to the bathing house but every second mattered! Luckily, as soon as he was atop Ayyonth, the dragon barely lurched off the ground and winked between on his own, bringing them safely to the entrance of the bathing house. Wide grey eyes looked up at Ayyonth as R’nd slipped and slid his way down the pretty blue hide. At least one of them could keep calm under pressure! Only because you are currently still conscious and unharmed. R’nd recalled well the fuss Ayyonth made at Turnover after S’kef had gotten a hold of him.

R’nd didn’t allow himself the time to thank Ayyonth for all his assistance that afternoon since time was still something he worried he didn’t have a lot of. He ran down the hall, searching for B’jin with quick glances through each doorway, panic increasing until he found the right room. He stumbled and foolishly covered his ears when Larrikith’s shriek hit him but it didn’t stop his gaze from registering the fact their fears were coming true with B’jin under water.

He wouldn’t be able to recall later on what sort of curses left his mouth as he jumped into the bath or even that he had done such an act, only that he had ended up as wet as B’jin. R’nd quickly, and what he thought was carefully, pulled B’jin’s head back above the water and did his best to check for signs that the man was still breathing. R’nd clearly wasn’t a Healer and had only learned the very basic of first aid but since he grew up along the water’s edge, he had been taught early on how to save someone from drowning and clearing water from the air passages. Now, however, he couldn’t recall all the steps or even decide if they were necessary since he didn’t know how long B’jin was under or if he had inhaled any water. So he lightly slapped a cheek, hoping that would work in waking his friend up again. “B’jin? Love, come back to me.”

Where’s Talian! He had tried to stay calm outwardly as he spoke to B’jin but there was panic in his mental voice as he yelled at the dragons.

Talian didn't know the ins and outs of dragonrider life, but he knew enough to know that a flight with someone like S'kef was bad. When Talian heard the news, he cringed. People all over the healer hall were talking about it within minutes, leaving Talian was an overwhelming sense of pity and grief. He knew S'kef was a cruel man, a monster who took pleasure in lashings and kept that abberation J'ver latched to his hip. Of course, knowing B'jin's history with the man only made it worse. S'kef was B'jin's J'ver.

When Larrikith arrived, Talian has wordlessly gone outside to tend to her. He was no dragonhealer, but he could apply numbweed and do some light first aid to make her feel better. Tal knew flights could get rough, but he was appalled by the damage to the poor little green. He frowned in pity and reached out, greeting her soft nose with one trembling hand.

"Poor baby," he said with uncharacteristic softness as he ran his hand down her snout. He'd taken to the green over the past few months, even since the trio's tearful night under the stars. Talian understood both Bjin and Larrikith a good deal better after that day, and he imagined they understood him better as well. They certainly acted like it, and Talian no longer feared that the dragon harbored some sort of secret hatred for him and would attack him at any provocation. He no longer cringed when she spoke to him. He even stroked her fairly regularly, though he still hadn't consented to riding her again.

This broke his heart. The young man could only imagine how bad B'jin had it if the poor green was tattered this badly! "It'll be okay," Talian said soothingly as he went about the slow and meticulous task of tending to her. He didn't dare work carelessly or too quickly, as he'd never treated a dragon before, and he wanted to make sure everything was perfect. Time wore on as he diligently cleaned and closed the wounds, liberally applying numbweed to the wounds to ward the pain away. He would warn B'jin, of course, though ocne it was dried the threat of his allergy should be past.

"Poor girl," Talian said at length, looking over his word and sighing. It had been quite a while, hadn't it? The sun had gone down! And yet B'jin was not free?

He will call us

Tal nodded slowly. He didn't relate to B'jin's odd desire to be alone after a bad event, but he could respect it. The boy sat down in the grass beside Larrikith and leaned against her stomach. "I'm worried about him," he said, his stomach cramping in anxiety as he thought of the terrifying situation his father must have just suffered through.

It was easy to imagine. Talian simply replaced B'jin with himself and S'kef with J'ver before letting his mind run wild. It was gut-wrenching. Talian could feel his own spine tingling in remembrance, made worse by the knowledge that his poor father had just suffered the same. No, it wasn't even the same...it was worse! B'jin had gone through it twice before! Why was fate so cruel as to make him endure it a third time!? And by no fault of his own?

The healer wallowed in his misery for a while, idly stroking Larrikith's side with one hand and trying to tear his thoughts away from his father's situation and his own past. He was more worried about B'jin than himself, but having both on his mind made it even harder to get past, for it meant he related all too well to the pain that must have been inflicted.

He was roused suddenly when Larrikith became agitated. Talian sat up abruptly, eyes widening and chest tightening as he sensed the fear rolling off of the little dragon. "Larrikith?" he asked. He felt his blood run cold at her words. Drowning? He may drown? His heart dropped into his innards and his muscled tightened as he felt her fear coursing through him more readily.  It was morbidly transfixing and utterly terrifying.

Before he knew what he was doing, he shot to his feet. "Larrikith!" he hissed through his teeth, tawny eyes widening with fear before being clouded by intensity and determination. He didn't notice the perfect stillness in his hands as he pressed them against her. "...Take me to him!" I'll save him. Don't worry! I trust you. The young man closed his eyes and held his breath, forcing all images out of his mind as Larrikith took them between.

It was a horrible sensation, and for a couple moments Talian had to ward away the fear that Larrikith had tossed him aside to perish in the cold. He gasped in relief as they reappeared, his lungs full of air and his feet safely on the ground. Without saying anything else, the healer took off inside, feet racing faster than he knew they could, even though his knees were like jelly.

Talian burst through the door. "Move!" he roared fiercely, colliding with R'nd's side and reaching out to grab the greenrider. Why hadn't this idiot pulled him out of the water?!

Talian heaved, summoning all of the strength in his thin little body to pull B'jin out of the water. Thankfully, R'nd helped. Talian's eyes flashed to the man, mistrust but a hint of thanks showing as he pulled the greenrider out onto his back. Talian sprang to B'jin's side and placed his fingers to the man's neck, searching for a pulse.

"No pulse," Talian breathed. Not on his his life! He scowled and lifted his hand, striking B'jin's chest one solid time before feeling again. "Shards!" he growled. No sharding pulse! He placed both hands on the man's chest this time and began a series of light compressions. He would worry about breathing in a moment; people could recover from a couple minutes without air, and there should be air in B'jin's blood..getting his heart going was more important.

Talian counted raggedly as he worked, his own heart racing.  "5...6...7...8...9...10..." he panted lightly before feeling for the pulse again. He felt a faint flutter. He gasped in relief and continued, counting out two more sets of ten before he moved to B'jin's mouth. "Come on, Dad!" Tal whispered before placing his mouth over B'jin's. The healer breathed into the greenrider's body once before he felt a quiver. It was working! Talian gasped and went down to repeat the action, heart still pounding.

Talian's soft words and gentle touch were appreciated by the little green, who lapped them up but said nothing in return. She was caught up feeling miserable for herself, her hide twitching at intervals as Talian went about his work but she made no objections, patient and sad as the young man worked. What was there to say? Larrikith pressed her nose gently to Talian's cheek as he admitted his own worry, breathing a soft, warm breath over him. She was worried, too, but she refused to say as much. She was a big girl, and they'd been through this before and obviously survived; she could tell as much by the surface emotions washing over Talian.

She didn't remember the trip between to get herself and Talian to the Bathing House; her eyes swirling viciously with terror as she stood there, suddenly afraid and unsure. Her human's mind was a darkness, blank and out of reach, and Larrikith loosed a keening shriek of fear, the little dragon trembling from nose to tail tip  as she mentally pressed against the minds of Talian and R'nd, shrieking again in heartbreak as Talian confirmed with a curse her bonded's lack of life. A heartbroken keening whine tore from her lips. He was gone! He'd left her! She was alone! Larrikith shrieked again, trembling, clinging desperately and fearfully to the faith she had in Talian; he wouldn't - couldn't - let B'jin die!

She clung desperately to that thought, swaying on the spot; clawed feet digging into the ground as if the very act would keep her safely secured on Pernese soil. One faltering thought from Talian and she'd be gone! And then-! Larrikith gave another soul wrenching shriek, this time of desperate hope as Talian's own hope flared. He was alive? Talian had saved him? B'jin! Larrikith's cry was a sobbing gasp of relief audible to the world; his mind was still blank, and out of reach, but there was a difference and Talian's relief was thick.

The sudden and overwhelming wave of pain made Larrikith gasp, eyes swirling suddenly as she groaned unhappily. So much pain! Inside, B'jin gave a sudden indrawn gasp, his entire body wrenching viciously, muscles clenching as his stomach rebelled and he gasped again, in a pain, an action that only furthered the sensation as he choked on his own vomit. Clawing viciously at Talian's leg as he tried desperately to breathe, eyes wide and wild but completely blind to the world.

Help him! Larrikith shrieked, as if the two men in the room were just going to sit there and watch her rider die after they'd both been so quick to go to his aid.

He totally puked all over the place; I just focused more on the fact that he tried to breathe most of it back in :|

Talian recoiled as B'jin's body heaved. The healer reacted in time to avoid getting vomit in his mouth, but the rest of him was not so fortunate. He swore and drew his sleeve across his face, wiping the foul liquid away before diving back onto B'jin. The greenrider still had a pulse and was moving. The next step was to keep him from choking!

"Hang in there!" Talian shouted a he heard Larrikith's panicked words. "I will save him!" the healer shouted aloud, hoping and assuming that Larrikith was listening to him. That was all he could do to reassure her, and while a thought would have sufficed, only a scream could truly convey the young man's determination. He could, would, had to save B'jin!

Talian leaned forward again, this time placing his mouth over the greenrider's nose. The man still needed artificial respiration, but his mouth was too full of vomit to use. Talian gave two deep breaths before pulling back and checking the man's sputtering. Two more he thought, leaning in and carefully grasping the greenrider as he performed the action again.

Afterwards, Talian recoiled and coughed. He was covered in vomit and could barely breathe for the strench, but that should have done it. He looked back anxiously to B'jin.

"Dad! Dad! Breathe! Can you speak?" he asked. He spun around, eyes landing squarely on R'nd. "Can you please get him some clean water?"

As R’nd watched Talian begin reviving B’jin, he couldn’t stop thinking that he had done more damage. He had pulled B’jin’s head above water but didn’t want to move him in case there was major bone damage. He remembered at least that the water would help from doing further damage in that regard but his hesitation and belief that B’jin hadn’t been under longer enough to stop breathing had probably kil—no! He couldn’t think that way! That wasn’t going to help anyone and when Talian announced B’jin wasn’t breathing, there was someone in particular that needed just as much help and he couldn’t give it with negative thoughts.

Fear gripped him that he would lose B’jin but he also worried about Larrikith. If B’jin wasn’t there to be her anchor, she would leave, panicked and convinced her rider had abandoned her. Ayyonth had already reached out to his mate, his mind as calm as it would be on a lazy napping day at the lake. He sent her reassurance that all would be well and B’jin would never leave her. R’nd focused on those thoughts as well, doing his best to keep his mind open to Larrikith and distracting her with thoughts about the pranks she had played on them and how much fun they all had together. Together. All four of them. B’jin would be fine. Talian was the best at his job and would revive B’jin and fix him right up again.

R’nd sobbed with relief when B’jin gasped and was soon upchucking. He hadn’t realised he had been silently crying, the tears streaming down his cheeks as he watched Talian work and reminded Larrikith how much she was loved and needed. When Larrikith yelled at them to help him, he wanted to yell back that he didn’t know how and he’d only be in the way but he knew she was just as, likely more so, distraught as he was and wasn’t thinking as clearly as usual. He did slide a bit closer thinking he could at least help roll B’jin over when he started vomiting again but instead he was given an order to find water.

He blinked, slightly confused for a moment since they were surrounded by water, but suddenly his power of thinking switched back on and R’nd scurried to his feet, slipping only once due to his wet clothing and the wet floor, and off to fulfill the request. He was back a moment later with a bucket of clean water and a small cup to help ladle the liquid out. Dropping back down to his knees, R’nd grabbed one of B’jin’s hands to hold in his, a quiet sign that he was there and finally managed a hoarse whisper, “don’t leave me, B’jin.”

With a deep intake of breath and a slow release, R’nd looked up to Talian, “tell me what to do, Talian. I can help.”

"Larri!" The word was a raspy whisper, barely audible as it left the greenrider's lips, eyes squinting against the dull light of glows in the bathing room, peering up at the people surrounding him dully and without focus. His dragon was his focus, mind reaching out for the green creature and clinging to her responding assault of trembling relief. B'jin's body relaxed as the connection with his dragon was reconfirmed, both rider and dragon taking comfort in the mental touch of their partner; relief, such relief!

Larrikith's fading fear was still overwhelming, and her distraught mind easy to pick apart, even as hazy as B'jin was -- she'd been afraid he'd died! B'jin shook his head slightly, the back still resting against the ground, but stopped suddenly, stiffening as the action made his vision burst into a billion tiny stars on a canopy of black. The stiffening of his body reminded him forcefully and viciously of the abuse it had taken -- when? B'jin gasped, another action that was viciously rebelled as ribs complained about the sudden expanding and brown eyes opened wide, staring at the dull roof.

Then, company was noted.

What words had been spoken by both the men peering down at him went unheard, the greenriders ears full of liquid, suffering a heavy concussion, he was lucky to be capable of seeing straight; audio was not on his list of currently working features. Vision was blurry and unsure, and B'jin's experience with men leering down at him was bad, at best. The greenrider hissed, part in pain, part in fear, and part in warning as muscles bunched and he sent himself sliding backwards, kicking out viciously at one shadowed shape as he went, foot connecting heavily with the young man's chest. B'jin scrabbled backwards, pushing himself up into a rough sitting position as he went.

Sitting up was objected to viciously as his gaze blacked out, head both spinning and pounding while some liquid or another dripped from his hair - B'jin did not want to know! - and rolled down his cheek to drip from his jaw-line. While his eyes were open, and shifting around rapidly, they saw very little beyond incredibly hazy images. Sound came to him slowly, fading in and out of clarity; anxious to hear properly, B'jin shook his head, attempting to clear his head. A stupid move, his body took the last it could from him and he heaved, viciously, crying out in surprised pain as he twisted over to puke blindly beside himself. Tears joined the bathwater, puke and blood.

Reassured that B'jin was alive, and while not well, was not about to abandon her to be alone, Larrikith slunk over to Ayyonth, curling up pathetically beside her blue mate and pressing against him desperately. Her neck twined against his own as the little green dragon trembled, from her own previous and unparalleled fear, and from B'jin's current fear; from the pain -- So much pain... her voice was a soft whispering brush against the minds of Talian and R'nd.

Talian glanced towards R'nd, tawny eyes sharp and focused. "Thank you," the healer said, taking the bucket without replying to R'nd's plea. Quickly, Talian peeled his outer shirt off and dunked it in the clean water. B'jin was covered in bile and drool. He needed to be cleaned up.

He reached for B'jin with one gentle hand, damp cloth in the other, in preparation to just that. As he leaned forward, however, the greenrider unexpectedly sprang to life. Talian cursed in surprise as B'jin lashed out, squirming to escape the men looming over him, and in doing so managed to kick R'nd square in the chest. Talian yelped, dodging any flailing limbs, before sliding beside the man and reaching out to lightly touch his father's shoulder.

"B'jin? You're all right, but you're hurt," Talian said in his smooth healer's voice. He glanced back to R'nd, alarmed by the kick and hoping against his mistrustful nature that R;nd was all right. Talian held out a hand to help the man up, then looked to B'jin again.

"I need to check you for fractures," he said lightly, studying the man's face and body language as he tried to calm him. B'jin was acting so dazed...poor man probably had a concussion.  Fabulous.

Fucking brownrider.

R’nd could admit to being afraid, especially when B’jin opened his eyes and seemed so disorientated and afraid himself. It was understandable; he had come from being trapped in a bed with S’kef, drowned, and had… had to be revived. He was on the verge of speaking softly to the man, comforting him with nonsensical words – believing entirely that his voice and presence would be welcomed – and rubbing his fingers over the hand he held but B’jin had other ideas. Unlike Talian, he wasn’t paying attention to the full picture and hadn’t expected such a violent reaction upon them being seen. The kick B’jin sent flying towards him connected before R’nd could blink and the surprising force behind the move sent the bluerider falling back to land on his back.

He cursed under his breath before gasping under the spike of pain. At least he hadn’t hit his head on the solid ground to join B’jin in the concussion department! R’nd laid there a moment, stunned at what just happened and staring at the ceiling. Being involved with B’jin was starting to take a toll on his well-being! Not that he really minded since it was always for a good cause; the greenrider’s well-being. Still dazed, R’nd waved off Talian’s offered hand and slowly sat back up, wincing at the protesting chest that didn’t like the straining he put on his body. The Healer had a more important patient to focus on and it would take more than that to send him scurrying away, though the obvious fact that he hadn’t been recognised was close to doing so.

Perhaps he had been recognised and that was punishment for not barging in on the flight and saving B’jin from S’kef’s clutches. That was a horrible thought but it clung to R’nd and refused to let go even as the bluerider scrambled back into a sitting position. He didn’t make any movement to get closer to B’jin again, though, in case he wasn’t wanted or, as his optimism and Ayyonth tried to get him to believe, B’jin was still disorientated and didn’t know who was with him or what the intentions were.

“B’jin? It’s R’nd,” the bluerider pointed out softly, a bit afraid for the reaction that would receive but still determined to help the man regardless of the outcome.  “Let Talian help you, please.” The desperation in his voice only made R’nd feel more pathetic. He was so useless! He hadn’t even properly helped B’jin from the water upon finding him. Now, he didn’t know how to check or patch up wounds and he was failing at offering comfort.

“Talian, tell me to leave.” He spoke to the Healer but his gaze didn’t stray from the Harper he couldn’t help, “If my presence isn’t helping, tell me to leave.” There was a chance he was making B’jin more agitated than calm and if that was the case, then he would go sit with the dragons and wait for word. Larrikith sounded in need of companionship though Ayyonth was doing his part to soothe her by keeping her close and licking her cheek.

They will help B’jin. The pain is temporary only. Ayyonth’s deep tones came across as mellowing though he himself was rattled by everything that happened. He almost lost Larrikith, R’nd was in minor pain physically while mentally beating himself up, and B’jin’s suffering was too much even for him to bear witness to. Talian had to be as good as Amorandii’s stories she told R’nd and him led them to believe!

B'jin scrabbled backwards again, until he hit a wall and pressed himself into the corner between the adjoining walls, breath hissing between his teeth from shallow breaths. He flinched, heavily, away from Talian's light touch, face scrunching up at the unexpected wave of pain the movement caused, drawing his knees up in a move powered by both modesty and a need to defend himself, eyes dark with mistrust but not seeing more of Talian than a hazy shadow as his sight swam, unable to focus. The voice was lost in the unhappy up and down his hearing was doing. There was a ringing sound in the background, annoying and becoming louder when B'jin realised it was there; he adamantly attempted to ignore it and focus on the person beside him. Eyebrows lowered in a scowling frown, but the rider was having difficulty making his thoughts connect with his sight and hearing.

I-- Tali-- Larrikith's voice floated in and out of focus, alongside B'jin's vision, but the greenrider's face lit up subtly with recognition and he peered at Talian determinedly, fighting to make his sight work. The attempted proved mostly futile, and B'jin groaned softly in the back of his throat as he raised his hands and rubbed at his eyes, left hand leaving to finger tentatively at the back of his head. "Hit my head," B'jin slurred, the statement clearly leaving S'kef outside of any blame. His fingers came away with watery blood and B'jin wiped his fingers, unseen by himself, on his thigh. His leg muscles stiffening when he realised the lack of clothing and blood flushed his previously sickly white face in embarrassment.

Just what he wanted to be. Butt naked and bleeding in front of Talian. B'jin's eyes fluttered open once more, clarity slowly returning as he stopped throwing himself around. B'jin frowned and moved only his eyes to look around, unwilling to move his pounding head and lose his sight once more, it was still fuzzy around the edges and his empty stomach was churning still. "R'nd?" B'jin's voice was raspy and low, but the name was awash with timid relief. The greenrider relaxed visibly, leaning back into the corner of the wall with a mild frown at the various levels of pain the action called and shifting his gaze to look at Talian.

"'M f'ne." He murmured, as raspily as he'd spoken his lover's name. "Hit m'hed on the tub." The falsity slid easily from his lips, well practised and lacking the usual quirks that gave away the greenrider when he attempted to lie. It came so easily to the surface once more despite the past few turns without having to use it as actively has he had before; again B'jin was please he wasn't a bruiser. It was so much easier to be believed when you didn't have marks to call you out. One corner of B'jin's lips twitched upward, the expression meant to be reassuring, even as eyes closed with a slight grimace. By Faranth his head was pounding!

"You are not fine," Talian said, moving unapologetically into B'jin's space and reaching gently but firmly for his face. "Slurred speech, dizziness, vomiting...You're concussed," he said, narrowing his eyes thoughtfully. B'jin was conscious and breathing, so that would be good enough for now. 'Come on. We need to get you to the hall and work on the swelling. I also need to check you for fractures," he said, making a quick sweep of the man's body with his worried eyes.

Talian's hands shot to B'jin's ribs. 'Focus, dad. You need to tell me what happened. You didn't hit your head..." Well, he did hit his head, but not on the tub. Tal's fingers raked over B'jin's ribs and revealed what his unrtarnished skin would not.

"You have at least two broken ribs. There's no way a fall on the head at that angle..." His eyes shot to B'jin's head, where the worst swelling was clearly in the back. "...and still get cracked ribs. You need to be honest with me if I'm going to help you, dad." Tal's words were firm and final. He always protected an uncharacteristic authority when taking care of a patient. It probably would have been enough to snap the Weyrleader himself in line!

"R'nd? I need you. I can't carry him on my own. His neck is fine, but his head needs to be supported. Can you get him on his feet with me? He'll need to stay at the hall overnight to make sure the concussion doesn't get worse..."

Talian slid under one of B'jin's arms and started to rise to his feet, hoping the bluerider would help him.

He lies.

I know.

There weren’t any of the usual tell tale signs of B’jin lying on display now but R’nd refused to believe hitting his head on the bath caused such a problem. His friend had, after all, just come from a flight with S’kef and given what he knew about their past together, R’nd refused to believe it was simple sex, a thanks, and parting of ways. It went on far too long for anything of an innocent nature to happen and the bluerider curled his hands into fists that rested on his thighs as he thought about the hated man.

And that was exactly why B’jin was lying.

His friend, his sweet and caring friend, didn’t want anything bad to happen to those he kept close and B’jin wasn’t a fool; he knew R’nd would charge after S’kef, especially given the Turnover debacle. Oh, that went badly for the bluerider and he was miserable with pain – though he did his best not to show he was in pain to anyone, especially B’jin – R’nd was glad he landed a punch and ended up taking the brownrider’s violent attention away from B’jin. And then there was his outburst during the flight and how he warranted guards on his hut. His anger had receded enough to be replaced by concern and fear but it was close to surfacing again soon as he watched the way B’jin trembled and cowered away from Talian and him.

What had that monster done to him?

R’nd was shaken from his inner battle over feeling useless, wanting to hold B’jin, and wanting to hurt S’kef, when a timid voice spoke his name, causing him to look up at B’jin. “Me,” he agreed, just as softly, his own relief showing in that single affirmation. His fears that he wasn’t recognised, or was but wasn’t needed, faded as the greenrider seemed to have a moment of clarity. Still, he didn’t want to crowd in and make B’jin feel like he was being cornered despite him realising who was there with him. Besides, another kick to the chest didn’t sound too appealing to R’nd! It hurt but he could now sadly say he knew from experience that nothing was broken; only sore and that would be fleeting.

When Talian said he needed assistance, R’nd hesitated. A part of him wanted to scurry away, afraid he’d do more damage, like he probably had with his poor handling of getting B’jin out of the water. He was useless in medical situations and they would be better off calling for someone else—

You are not useless. Those few seconds you had B’jin above water could have made for a different ending if you didn’t act as you had and left him until Talian arrived. Ayyonth’s voice, always so calm and soothing – when he wasn’t teasing his bonded – wrapped around R’nd and he gave a small nod of acknowledgement, though he still wasn’t convinced. You were also the one that was there when the young goldrider needed medical attention and we brought her to the Healing Hall for Talian to properly examine her and you helped where you could inside. This is no different. R’nd nodded again and released a slow ragged breath as he steadied his nerves and a hand wiped away the drying tears he had shed out of fear of losing B’jin.

“Wait,” Talian may not have thought about it, just like he hadn’t with Jada and her breasts being exposed either – the young man going into complete professional mode – but R’nd noticed B’jin’s lack of clothing and knew his lover would protest leaving the room without some sort of covering. He may lack morals when it came to himself but R’nd knew when to keep the modesty of others intact. His own clothing was wet and clinging to him which wouldn’t do much good but the towel that was likely to be used by B’jin after the bath was spotted and R’nd grabbed it after getting to his feet.

Working with Talian they eased B’jin off the ground and once they succeeded, R’nd motioned for Talian to take more of the weight for a moment while R’nd shook out the towel, “I’m going to secure the towel around your waist, okay, love?” He was being overly cautious but R’nd didn’t want to assume such an action would be appreciated and didn’t want to startle B’jin by an extra set of hands so close to groin again.

“How are we doing this, Talian?” R’nd didn’t know if they wanted to walk all the way there or risk a dragon carrying B’jin but he wasn’t making any sort of call like that, not when a Healer was there and knew best. He was Talian’s servant, and if the mood wasn’t so dire, he may have pointed that out and joked about Talian having his own dragonrider to boss around.

"Am," B'jin bickered softly, not bothering to open his eyes as he mumbled back the response to the young Healer perched over the top of him. "M'know," B'jin murmured again, softly in response to Talian's telling him he was concussed; the fact that that completely negated his previous argument went without remark by the greenrider speaking. "N'ting new." How many times had his brains been addled before? Nemall never meant it, he just got carried away! He'd be fine in a little bit! B'jin exhaled softly, the shallow breath sounding deeper than it actually was in an attempt to ward off the invading healer. The greenrider really didn't want to deal with well meaning albeit utterly annoying poking, prodding and questioning. Honestly! Talian should know him better than that!

"N'thing 'penned," B'jin grumbled, irritation visible in the frown pulling at his eyebrows, drawing them together above still closed eyes, and the lingering tone in his voice. He just wanted everyone to shut up! His poor head was pounding, and Talian's whining voice wasn't helping int he slightest! Brown eyes suddenly opened wide as a shallow, hissing breath was expelled; one hand rising to give Talian a solid shove in the chest when his hands danced over B'jin's ribs with far more pressure than B'jin had been anticipating. Most particularly since he hadn't been anticipating the Healer to cop a feel at all!

"M'fine! G'way!" Naturally, both his shove and his words were ignored by the little healer and his wide-eyed lover as the two men hauled him to his feet. B'jin's already pallid complexion went pasty, and he clung doggedly to the both of them, whining unintentionally between his teeth when R'nd slipped away. B'jin's balance was questionable to begin with, and without the additional support of R'nd on the other side, the greenrider leaned heavily on Talian while his bluerider mumbled something about towels and waists. All B'jin could concentrate on was the agony in his ribs as Talian's slim body pressed against his side. Wouldn't they just all fuck off and leave him alone?!

"M'fine!" B'jin grumbled again, an angry scowl on his face. The expression used to cover up the pain-dilated pupils and the shallowness of his breath as R'nd reclaimed his side and B'jin's weight was distributed once more between the two younger men. Between the pair of them, he was pretty sure they were pressing on every sore spot his body possessed, and amazing pain tolerance or not, B'jin was in a whole new world of agony. It was bringing out his more charming side, and B'jin grumbled slurred insults as he told Talian to go screw himself; why ask questions, if you're already convinced you know the answer?

Partly because it was too much effort to hold himself up, but mostly to be a bastard, B'jin let his body turn to dead weight on both young men. If they weren't going to leave him alone, then he'd just make life that little bit more difficult for them. Something sounding suspiciously like "Know-it-all healer brat!" was hissed on slurred words as the greenrider went limp, head lolling onto R'nd's shoulder.

As far as fussy patients went, B'jin was mercifully mild, though there a certain annoyance factor considering the man's day to day standing with Talian. No one appreciated being shoved and sworn at by their father, but Talian figured if that was all he had to put up with, he was getting off easy. B'jin was fussy and defensive even on good days, and today he was obviously traumatized. Poor man!

Talian grunted as he was shoved. "B'jin! Hold the shards still!" Talian snapped in his Healer Voice, grasping the man tightly as R'nd helped heave him to his feet. Tal paused long enough to R'nd to accommodate B'jin's modesty, which hardly seemed necessary but Talian was willing to concede if it might make the greenrider cooperate more.

Of course not. Tal grunted again as B'jin dead-weighted in their arms. A slurred curse escaped him, to which Talian replied with one of his own. "Stubborn jackass dragonrider!" the healer gasped as he heaved, throwing all of his strength into keeping B'jin on his feet.

"We'll need to walk him. I don't think we can keep him on a dragon like this, and I don't think he needs to be jerked around any more than necessary. He's badly concussed and has some internal fractures," Talian gasped to R'nd. He nodded to the bluerider and set off, thankful for the stronger man's help as they made their way to the infirmary. It was a painfully long way to drag such an unwilling subject, but Talian had both his healer's instincts and his love for the man fueling him. He'd already saved the man's life once today. He was going to get him all the way better!

"At least he hasn't bitten me yet," Tal groaned morbidly as they finally entered the hall. A flurry of attendants came to them, but Tal quickly snapped at them to step off. He was protective of his patients (and parent) and had developed a standing loathing for most of the 'help', so it was rather satisfying to see them back off.

"This room should be good..." he panted.

R’nd wasn’t sure if words of encouragement or reminders that he was there with B’jin were wise but he wasn’t sure if silence was the way to go either. B’jin seemed pretty focused on venting his frustration, anger, pain, and denial at Talian and R’nd was more than happy to let that happen. Talian didn’t seem bothered by it and while the bluerider suspected none of it was truly meant, he couldn’t help but be glad he wasn’t being insulted. He already felt useless and borderline ready to bolt at the slightest showing that B’jin truly didn’t need or want him around so to have even the mumbled insults as they nearly dragged his dead weight – purposely done, naturally – to the Healing Hall thrown his way would have shattered him.

He wouldn’t leave though! He couldn’t. He wasn’t the type to abandon a friend when they were need and even if his feelings were hurt, R’nd would stay until he knew everything was fine. So he finally opted for staying quiet as they shuffled through the weyr on their journey, his fingers occasionally giving in and finding B’jin’s hand to gently rub in a sign he was there. It was still odd how that ended up becoming something special between them. R’nd could recall holding hands with his lover of the moment but never did he pay attention to the way their hands fit together or take a simple and quiet joy in the feel of a hand softened by dragon oil under his own. That thought kept his mind from drifting to dangerous things like B’jin’s health or anger towards him for the remainder of the walk.

When they reached the Healing Hall, R’nd had to admit he was impressed by the way Talian sent people scattering away from them. It just showed how smart he had been to hold his tongue for the walk and continued to do so as they found a place to tend to B’jin. R’nd nodded in agreement – he really didn’t know if that room was better than any other one – and helped get B’jin settled in as needed. He didn’t go far after that though. Talian may have been scary in his Healer role but R’nd had decided he really wasn’t going anywhere and not even a glare would send him scurrying away and the look of determination to stay right where he was that the bluerider gave said exactly that.

Then again…

“B’jin, I’d rather stay with you but I’ll wait outside if you want privacy right now,” in the end, it didn’t matter what Talian or R’nd wanted; B’jin was the patient and the victim and his voice was the one to listen for.

“M’fine,” B’jin grumbled irritably as he was half dragged, half carried by the two men to the edge of the room. Unwilling to make a scene of himself, however, B’jin actively picked himself up as much as he could upon reaching the door, though his head spun with the motion and he collapsed back against R’nd with an unhappy whine between his teeth. Why did the world hate him so much? B’jin stared ahead with a swimming vision as the two young men hauled him across the Gather Square, bee lining for the Healer Hall. At least it was late, and the people out and about were minimal. B’jin grumbled under his breath about how he was fine and he just wanted to go home.

Talian’s comment when they entered the hall had a slightly delusional and very twisted smirk weaving itself across B’jin’s lips as he lifted his head from R’nd’s shoulder, eyeing all three Talian with determination. “Bit S’kef,” he said smugly, though the words were terribly slurred. “Stupid cunt bled on me.” Most of that was unintelligible, but B’jin expected both Talian and R’nd would get the gist of what he had said. How dare S’kef bleed on him! If he hadn’t been such a son of a whore, B’jin wouldn’t have needed to bite him! How many times had he bitten him? It was more times than he’d been bitten, right? B’jin blinked, frowning in confusion as he was set on a surface of some type. He pet the towel that was still wrapped around his waisted.

Then his hand shot out and latched on to R’nd’s wrist. “D’nyou dare,” B’jin grumbled,  twitching slightly at the pain the sudden movement had caused to flare up his side. When he was sure R’nd wasn’t going to leave him, the greenrider let the vice like grip he’d latched onto his lover with relax, fingers sliding down to wave through R’nd’s own and tug gently to invite the bluerider closer. Only when R’nd was as close as he could be without being directly in the way, did B’jin stop his insistent and somewhat childish tugging, though dark brown eyes were turned irritably on Talian as he watched the multiple young men trot around the room.

“Cn’t we go home?” B’jin slurred, slumping to lean lightly against lover and scowling unhappily.  He had absolutely no intent of going anywhere by himself and he certainly wasn’t going to let R’nd leave him on his own. B’jin would never have dreamed of blaming R’nd, and was especially aware that the bluerider would be inclined to blame himself for the situation enough for the both of them (and anyone else). Besides, it was ayyonth’s fault for not chasing. But that was neither here nor there to the greenrider, who was worried about his gorgeous lover seeking revenge and ending up in even worse repair than the greenrider was currently in.

“Stinks like numbweed in here.” The statement was slurred, as much from the knock on the head as to the exhaustion claiming his body as adrenaline fled and left him without fuel for the fire. Accusing brown gaze was levelled on Talian, and he squeezed R’nd’s fingers tightly for a moment. “Keep that shit away from me!” It was bad enough he had to smell it! What if Talian touched it and then touched him?! He was in enough pain (only not really!) without Talian adding more to it because he was a sadistic little healer brat! His suspiciously narrowed gaze watched his foster son’s every move. He’d already taken his delight in poking him in the ribs!

Oh, for the love of Faranth  Larrikith said, boldly talking to both healthy men in the room, and including Ayyonth because it was only polite, though her rider was making her feel anything but polite. Do me a favour and knock him out, Talian. He’s thinking absolute wher-shit.

Worried and stressed as he was, Talian was in no mood for shit. He glared right back at his father and nodded in acknowledgment of Larrikith's comment. "Gladly," he said, reaching out and pointing one lecturing finger at his father's face. "B'jin!" Tal snapped, using his healer-voice and talking to the man as he would to a drunk. "You will close your mouth this instant! You are hurt, in serious condition, and will not be gong anywhere!"

He took a step closer. "You will hold still while I treat you, and afterwards you will lie still in bed until morning. You will stay here until your swelling goes down. Do you understand me? If you don't, I will have my assistants tie you down to the bed."

He spun around and fetched some fellis juice. "Now then. R'nd? Help me get this down his throat, if you will." Tal moved forward and seized B'jin's chin in his hands, pushing his head back to open his throat. "Help me hold him, please," Talian said quickly to R'nd before upending the fellis juice down B'jin's throat.

"Shame on you, Dad, for thinking I would bring numbweed near you!" Talian added in a stern voice, eyes focused as he worked. It didn't take long to administer the drug, after which Talian began rooting for other remedies.

"Okay, I'll need to get something for the swelling and treat his wounds..." he mumbled. "Nothing to be done about the broken ribs, but the fellis juice should keep him silly enough so the pain won't bother him." These soft, concerned words were aimed at R'nd, how was undoubtedly worried.

Talian quickly got his supplies in order and went to work. A few herbs and some quick patching up of B'jin's wounds and he was ready to go; much of the damage was internal, and there was little Talian could do other than make hi comfortable.

"R'nd? If you could help me get him in bed? He needs to stay over night so I can make sure his concussion doesn't worsen."

B'jin powerplay with permission!

The grip B’jin still managed to give in such a state was surprising but it did its job by holding R’nd in place, though the bluerider had made no attempt to leave without confirmation he should. “I won’t dare to,” he vowed, not having wanted to leave anyway. B’jin needed him! Well, R’nd liked to believe that was the case. Talian was needed for the actual pain and bandaging but R’nd felt perhaps he was a calming influence and could help play distraction when needed or move B’jin around more for Talian –which ended up being the case soon after he had settled in beside B’jin. Couldn’t he sit and play comforter a bit longer?

R’nd wasn’t about to ask that though, not when scary Healer Talian was back and ordering around first B’jin and then him. The bluerider practically jumped into action, not wanting to risk his wrath, and assisted with gentle hands in making sure B’jin stayed still and drank down the fellis. When it was done, he took to the hand caressing that seemed to be the token move between B’jin and him, hoping to keep the greenrider calm and remind him he was still there. Fellis could be evil for messing with senses and reality! R’nd knew from far too much experience within the past turn.

His mind quickly turned from fellis to numbweed though when Talian chided B’jin for thinking he would use the plant on him. There had been times in the past where B’jin needed patching up but numbweed wasn’t anywhere to be seen. R’nd had first chalked it up to the salve not being appropriate for the type of injuries but when he himself was injured and slathered in it, B’jin always seemed to be on the other side of the room to admire a plant or book. Clearly there was something there and while R’nd suspected maybe it caused a rash or burned even a diluted and small amount, he was still too afraid to ask either of them questions and decided to whisper confirmation to B’jin that he would guard him while he slept. “I’ll make sure it’s always kept away from you, love.” There had been enough panicking for one night, they didn’t need to add another veritable to the equation.

R’nd nodded as Talian’s now much softer and less intimidating voice reached him. “Yeah, I know all about broken ribs and the joys of fellis.” He had spent a few days in an extremely loopy state thanks to the pain and the amount of fellis soup he begged B’jin to conjure up. The day he could finally take a deep breath and not want to cry out in pain was a glorious one indeed! He had been especially glad that had happened long enough before wing practices started that he wasn’t showing another weakness to R’nya.

With some gentle urgings and promises he would stay the night, sleeping on the floor if he had to, R’nd finally managed to coax B’jin to the bed and helped him lie down with as little jostling about as possible. He made his home at the foot of the bed and focused on giving his lover comfort in any way he could think of which, for the moment, was a foot massage he hoped held the right amount of pressure to not set off the ticklish nature of the man.

B’jin stared at Talian as the boy turned on him, eyes narrowed grumpily as he purposefully opened his mouth in order to stick his tongue out at Talian when the young man told him to close it, snorting in disgust at the insistence that he was hurt. He was bloody well fine, and he’d be a damned sight better if he were allowed to go home and curl up in his own nice, comfortable bed in the safety of his own hut where there was no goddamned numbweed and he would most certainly be taking his R’nd along as a combination of pillow, and guardian against the monsters that popped up out of the darkness when greenriders took a moment to close their eyes. While he didn’t actively think it, and thus wasn’t about to say it, he was pretty sure R’nd could guard a lot better against nightmares than the poor bluerider could against the real life S’kef, but he appreciated the championing.

His bluerider was so damned sweet!

And what the fuck? “Bite me!” B’jin spat in reply to Talian’s little tirad ,  elbowing at R’nd irritably as the younger man suddenly held him, the greenrider quite aware by the manner in which he did it that R’nd was up to something he knew B’jin would rather he didn’t do but likely came under the umbrella of ‘for your best’. His elbow missed the bluerider, his aim half-hearted and the move pulling against strained muscles and causing pressure on worse ribs. In that moment, Talian shoved his chin back and poured something down his through. B’jin choked and spluttered, kicking out with one foot aimed at Talian as he glared viciously at the young healer. “I would have taken it if you’d fucking asked!”

Well, probably not, but B’jin wasn’t going to say that and he scowled viciously but did sit still as Talian babbled to R’nd, leaning more heavily against the bluerider as the fellis kicked in, causing the greenrider’s head to stop pounding so viciously, but it made his thoughts and vision swim terribly. “Mm,” B’jin mumbled, not really hearing what R’nd had said as he blinked wide I’m-not-flaking eyes at R’nd, the expression turning into a frown of concentration as he kissed his lover lightly on the neck before R’nd settled him in the bed and sulking, drugged brown eyes watched the bluerider angle for the end of the bed and out of B’jin’s line of sight; his eyes rolled as he lost consciousness, two sad little words making their pathetic debut as he lost the fight to stay awake;

“D’nt go.”
