744.01.10 | Some Space to Grow - Mylorah - 10.Jan.23

Mylorah sat on the floor in the middle of the main room of the weyr that would be hers in one month. Everyone else in her class was off having fun picking out which weyr they would like and their second and third choices. She didn't have a choice thanks to Cazan and T'ryn opting to stay in their weird adjoining set up. Then again, Cazan did technically have a husband and mate so Mylorah supposed both sides of Cazan's life needed their own space. But, that meant Mylorah had to take the Junior Weyrwoman's weyr since she and Cazan were co-Juniors.

That was a whole other jar of annoyance. Who thought she would be a good Junior? Even half of one? She was still a junior weyrling! Mylorah flopped onto her back to stare at the ceiling of her soon-to-be home. She was exhausted from her weyrling training, goldrider training, and Junior Weyrwoman training. What was free time? Mylorah sure didn't know it! There were a few weeks where she did and that had been nice. And intimate. A smile managed to appear as she recalled finally getting some sexy time with her knight again. And then a couple of other classmates, but Tazikel had been the highlight as she had missed being in his arms. Now, it felt like she may never be again!

You're being overly dramatic.

"Blame the Master Harper. One day he will realise I'm happier in the audience than on the stage." But, again, a little smile appeared. It had been fun to help with the plays for the dragonets when they were younger--and smaller. I'm not that large! "Yet," Mylorah countered, though it felt like her dragon was already a million times larger than Tiberuth or Syrendryth. No doubt that was because she only offered to help scrub the bronze boys down once in a while and not daily like with the beautiful gold trying to sit in the room with her. Mylorah sat back up to chuckle at the way her dragon had wiggled her way through the opening and flopped with no regal grace whatsoever. "Enjoy that. I doubt you'll be able to properly fit in when we actually move in here." I'll make do. It's not much to look at right now, is it? Another glance around the large room showed what Mylorah already knew of it--too much space with a smattering of leftover furniture that Lasalla didn't need to bring to Igen Weyr with her. If the older goldrider had any personal items in the rooms, she had taken them all with her so the walls and shelves were bare. Mylorah didn't own much and wouldn't be able to fill in the empty spaces, even if she wanted to.

Her life fit in a trunk that had always been at the foot of her bed, even in Katila. A small assortment of clothes and a few homemade trinkets that meant something because of the people they came from. She had more clothes than she knew what to do with now thanks to originally T'ryn buying her cute dresses for Gathers and then Tazikel helping her blend into his world. The trinket collection had grown only slightly since managing to convince friends and family she was fine without gifts on her birthday, but she did treasure the drawings from Fetch. Oh! She would have a few items to hang on the wall after all! In one small spot on one small wall.

We'll make do, Amagrith amended her previous statement, confident that they would make the weyr their home in no time and even Mylorah would be happy with it.

"I don't need all of this space!" Not that anyone listened when she pointed that out. V'ra rolled her eyes and mumbled something about goldriders being difficult no matter what before shoving her into the weyr and telling her to get comfortable with her new life. But we deserve it. "You know I hate you saying that and that idea in general. What am I going to do with all of this space? I'm not going to have kids, like is clearly implied by what is expected of goldriders."

Amagrith was silent for a moment before her tail began thumping the floor in excitement. Parties! You can have your friends and your friends over regularly. We know some good bronzes, some fun blues and greens from class, and Taith! They can visit me while you spend time with their riders. Yes, this is a good use of the space. Mylorah laughed but it did seem like a good idea. Truthfully, with all of the space, she wanted to ask Tazikel to live with her but she was also too afraid to ask. Her feelings for the greenrider had deepened over the few months that they had to keep their hands off each other while talking about anything other than the fun they could be having if allowed to, but, what if her knight didn't feel the same? The safer option was to tell him her door was always open to him and he could come by anytime he wanted to.

There was another fear as well. This weyr represented a new life, but, that was fine--she'd figure it out. It was the fact that it was hers and only hers that scared her. She had never slept alone. She shared a little room with Korlin in their mom's hut before the landslide, and had lived in the Candidate barracks ever since. She had started out in the large open room but eventually got a small room with one of the other handful of female Candidates Ista always had on hand. Sure, there were times where her roommate had been out with a lover and came back late or not at all, but Mylorah always knew she would be back. She wasn't alone and abandoned.

You have me! Amagrith's growl startled Mylorah into gasping as she got to her feet. "I do and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to discount you. I know I'm not alone since you found me." She walked across the room to her dragon to wrap her arms around Amagrith's neck in a tight hug. "Maybe I'll move my bed out to your nook. It'll be odd to sleep with you so far away soon as well."

Amagrith gave a huff of annoyance, absolutely not. It will be good to have our own space, but you can visit me anytime you need to. "Deal," Mylorah agreed with a light chuckle and then sighed. "Okay, we've killed enough time here that V'ra shouldn't be annoyed to find us returning. We might even have enough time to oil some spots before the Weyrwoman comes for today's lesson." A full scrub and oiling of Amagrith would have been preferred over looking at more numbers but Mulrissa was doing her best to make the lessons somewhat interesting with gossip and little tricks to help get through the work.

Are Malvayth and Cazan coming as well? Mylorah gave a shrug as she headed for the door. "Depends on what we're learning today. They're a little further along than us and might be doing other jobs for the Weyrwoman. Now, off you go. I'll meet you there shortly." It was tempting to hop atop Amagrith for the short glide down but V'ra was already grumpy and V'lia's exasperated sighs before doling out the latest punishment to a weyrling was enough to keep her misbehaving urges in check a little longer and take the mundane human way down.
