743.06.13 | Captivated - Mylorah - 14.Jun.22

Mylorah was smiling as she leaned back into Tazikel's embrace. They sat on the little patch of grass that overlooked the harbour to enjoy the view and get away from the demands of the Hold for a little while. It had felt like a lifetime since she last saw her Sir Tazicurls thanks to Lord Tillek deciding the second son needed more to do because the first son was a disappointment. Or something like that. Mylorah liked her theory since big brother was kind of a dick and even their dad had to finally notice. But that meant Tazikel wasn't allowed as much freedom and couldn't do what he wanted as easily and that included seeing the girl from the Weyr.

But he finally had some free time and Mylorah was quick to claim it. A'tay was currently her favourite brother for bringing her to Tillek and thanks to Xyxyth's size, Zelly was able to tag along as well. The pair were off poking around the market and Mylorah spared a brief thought for the amazing food items they would find and turn into delicious dishes. They were adorable together even if they weren't together. Well, more together than she was with Tazikel or Gangleri or any of her other favourite men since Zelana lived with A'tay and she still had her lovers. T'ryn and Cazan had their strange yet happy relationship as well. Maybe one day she could have something like that, too.

"One day I'm going to keep you and never give you back to Tillek Hold," Mylorah promised before turning to loosely wrap her arms around Tazikel's neck. She'd already given him plenty of kisses but so far had managed not to jump him for more. So many people seemed to decide that her favourite lordling was pretty and vacant but she knew better and liked their conversations--even the ones that had him trying to teach her about Holds and families that didn't like her all that much. "You'll be all mine... though maybe I'll share with Kor'is again," she teased and kissed him.

Tazikel’s mouth was too occupied to laugh at Mylorah’s words, but he did smile into the kiss. When they pulled apart enough to speak, he grinned at her. “You may want to get on that sooner rather than later, otherwise who knows who else you’ll have to share me with,” he said. It was mostly teasing, but there was some genuine concern there too. His parents were getting closer and closer to finally agreeing on a betrothal for him. Another annoying side effect of the weird spat his father and Batenkel found themselves in, one that saw Tazikel spending a lot more time having dinner with what felt like every lord’s daughter between fourteen and forty, and a lot less time doing fun things like hanging out with Mylorah.

He really hoped his father and Ten figured their shit out soon. It would perhaps make his father less eager to find him a good match and go back to leaving Tazikel to his own devices for another few Turns. Maybe. At twenty-five Tazikel was pushing it to remain unmarried, and there was no way he’d make it to thirty without a wife. He didn’t generally like to think on the inevitability of his marriage, but it had unfortunately been looming to large in his life to ignore anymore.

As much as he’d prefer to be Mylorah’s whatever-he-was indefinitely, he would marry. Tillek was his home, and he cared about his family too much to refuse when it was finally asked of him. His parents had been kind enough to put it off for his benefit so long already—Tazikel knew there was no benefit to Tillek or his family to have him remain unwed, it was entirely because they knew he wasn’t ready.

Still.

“If I end up married before you steal me away to a Weyr, you, Ko’ris, and the wife can argue over custody and I’ll abide by whatever you all decide,” he said, and wrapped his arms more securely around Mylorah. “I’m sure you’ll manage to come out on top in the negotiations.”

Her smile faltered and a frown wanted to take its place. But for Tazikel and his attempt to keep the situation light with a joke, she held on. It wasn't fair to whine or pout when he was the one truly suffering from the ordeal. She only had to endure seeing her knight less and face the reality he would marry but Tazikel had to worry about who the wife would be and if he would be running a major Hold one day. So if being playful with silly scenarios helped him cope and gave him a small break, then Mylorah would happily oblige.

"I already share custody of Kordi with Cazan. I only get random visits since they're in the same Weyr but I think I could negotiate something better with you as my prize." Mylorah nestled back into his hold as she thought for a brief moment. "You would probably be expected to spend more time here but I think everyone would survive the first week of every month without you. I'd steal you to the Weyr or we can put a sign on your chambers not to be disturbed. Oh! Maybe our own little love shack outside the Hold. I'd even ride a horse with you to get to it." Thanks to Tazikel, she wasn't as suspicious and mistrusting of the beasts but she still preferred dragons. But it would be odd to always have a brother escort her to her booty calls and felt riding a horse together could be fun. Besides, it was all made up for the perfect fantasy outcome anyway so a horse could come along.

Her gaze swept along the horizon and then the ships still slowly coming and going and the smile brightened again. "Or we could stow away on a ship and see where it takes us. Forbidden lovers on the run. Those stories always work out," she gave a soft laugh and rested her head back on his shoulder. For the first time, she wished she was a lady. She was so close! Her dad was a second son but he chose the dragonrider life instead. What if she had followed Amorandii's example and moved to a Hold? Would she be good enough for Tazikel then? That wasn't fair. She already knew she was but it was his parents that would never think so and she would never be happy in a Hold. So love shacks and on the run it had to be.

Tazikel nodded with mock seriousness. “I think a week could be arranged. Maybe the horse is because you have to come steal me away at the beginning of the week. For propriety’s sake, of course.” If Tazikel stopped to think about it, he’d have to acknowledge it would not be very respectable for him to be stolen away by a woman—one who didn’t even have a dragon or rank—but his mouth was moving a little faster than his brain on this fantasy. Which was fine, Tazikel liked the image, and it wasn’t like Mylorah would judge him or think too hard on it.

“Maybe our ship will sink in a storm and we’ll be stranded alone somewhere that conveniently has plenty of food and supplies we can make use of. It’ll take them at least a month to find us, if not much, much longer.” He tilted his head in consideration. “Or we could land there safely and still have the ship for convenience, but that’s less dramatic.” Also too easy to be tempted to go back, but that wasn’t the sort of thing one had to worry about in fantasies.

“Too bad you can’t attend the dinners with me. I’d like your opinion on many of the women my parents are considering,” he said, momentarily serious again. Tazikel stroked her hair, pressing their foreheads together. “Then you could help me discover who’s the least boring and most open to sharing.” Really, it was a pity Itherida was already married to his brother. She and Mylorah got along well enough, and Theri had no problems sharing. Or, well, maybe she would if he were actually her husband, but who could say?

They could run away to Katila! Why hadn’t she thought of it earlier? It was perfect and she could get a brother to bring them. K’dar would do it without much fuss since he seemed big on seeing her happy lately and doing things she never thought he would. But could he keep a secret under pressure? That was the tricky part. And then there was getting Tazikel used to living in a slightly different environment. But if he could survive a shipwreck and live off the land, then he could survive a little community of retired dragonriders. She didn’t mention it, though. It was too real a possibility and Mylorah didn’t want to get her hopes up or crushed depending on his answer.

A slow smile slid back into place at the idea of helping to select Tazikel’s wife. She did have a good eye for women that would be fun and open to sharing with her when it came to the lordling. “I’m sure I’ve met some of them at the parties so I might have an opinion,” she knew a few names she mostly certainly would not recommend. What if one of them did end up as his wife? Mylorah bet she wouldn’t even have Tazikel as a pen pal let alone anything else. She scowled a little at the thought but turned it into a playful thinking face as she thought about good qualities. “Definitely make sure she’s a good dancer. You can tell a lot about a person from the way they move to music. It’s how I made up my mind about you.” She gave him another quick kiss and thought about what else he could look for.

The idea to find someone a little younger so they were curious and willing to experiment made Mylorah angry at herself. She wasn’t going to suggest Tazikel train his wife! But it did give her pause and she wondered if she had done that with Tazikel and Gangleri. At the time, Mylorah thought she was just giving them options and encouraging what lurked behind hesitation but did either of them do things because they thought that’s what she wanted? Maybe she had nudged too hard, especially with Gangleri and she needed to have a talk with him while they had their clothes on to see how awful she had been. With Tazikel, she knew he and Kor’is were attracted to each other and he definitely enjoyed having two women lavish attention on him. Her spoiled knight.

But another talk with him could stem from something he said about sharing. “And… I didn’t want to say too much in a letter but that dinner with Yfris I mentioned? It was one of his parties and one of the ladies there wasn’t betrothed and I can safely say she’s fine with sharing.” Mylorah knew the woman’s name but couldn’t remember her standing at the moment. She likely wasn’t even a contender because that would be too simple a solution.

“But you should maybe accept sometime. With me as your guest, of course. It wasn’t too bad,” she’d been curious about the parties but always told Tazikel to accept if he was comfortable with the idea of an orgy. As far as she knew, he still hadn’t attended one. “Yfris is a surprisingly competent and excellent host. Although my brother said he might change the format sometimes, like only he knows who is attending to add extra mystery or something. So make sure you know which one you’re going to.” She ran her fingers through his curls. “Maybe that one is better given how highly desirable you are and in demand you would be if everyone knew you were in the room.”
