743.03.30 | The Drunken Fool - Ulliendis - 31.Mar.22

Ulliendis staggered out into the hall from a weyr he thought a bluerider lived in but couldn't quite be certain of which one in that moment. He swayed as he shut the door and saluted a man that walked by giving him an odd look. "Heck of a night, let me tell you!" He declared as the man--brownrider the knots he spotted said--sneered in disgust and continued on his way. "Rude," he mumbled. He really did want to tell someone as it would help piece the night back together. It really had been a wild night. A lot of booze... some hot bodies... Ulliendis straightened, his back cracking in the process. And some stiff bodies as well.

He continued staggering down the hall, working his way down the stairs by bouncing off one wall and then the other until he was on the next level. Was he still drunk or now hungover? He'd have to make up his mind if someone asked. Given the early hour it was hard to tell as mornings made him feel either way regardless. Who invented mornings anyway? The best work and fun was had after the sun went down. But sometimes it did happen when the sun was still up and glaring down at him.

Like now.

Ulliendis bounced himself against the door, resting his head on it as someone else passed by. They spared him a look but a Candidate in rough shape wasn't much to remark on and he'd be forgotten by the time the woman rounded the corner. He knocked on the door in tune with the annoying song stuck in his head and then waited. Silence answered from within. He jiggled the handle and it opened. Delightful. People were far too trusting anymore. It wasn't good for his picklocking skills.

The door was pushed open just enough for his slender form to slip inside and quietly close it again. Ulliendis straightened again and gave his neck a crack before walking without difficulty in a straight line to the desk at the other end of the room. He scanned the area as he went, knowing the Weyrwoman had some firelizards that could be hanging around but didn't see any of them. Good, his fun wasn't going to be ruined just yet. The Weyr life hadn't been as wild as he thought it would be but it was still a lot better than what the Holds could provide, though he sometimes was still bored. Hence the breaking into the Weyrwoman's office.

He poked about the stack of papers atop the large desk, finding it all dreadfully boring. Who wanted to read about inventory? Then again... Ulliendis gave it a quick perusal, learning what they seemed to go through a lot of and what wouldn't be missed right away if it started walking away on its own. He read over the lines of interest several times to commit them to memory and then set them aside, looking for something juicier.

Making himself comfortable in Rhaedalyn's chair, Ulliendis found the drawers locked and smiled as he was able to use his tools afterall and slipped them free from a pocket within a pocket on his pants. The locks were easy and the ex-Harper was soon skimming correspondences with other Weyrwoman. Rhaedalyn seemed to be friends with all of them, to varying degrees, as personal conversations were slipped in with formal requests. It was almost cute how most of them seemed to have kids, though Casa was never asked about them but instead fashion designs, promises to get together soon, and general support of the young Ista leader. He really did need to properly meet that woman or snoop around that Weyr but Ista was smaller and Casa seemed far more studious and alert than people seemed to give her credit for.

As he slipped the stack of sheets back in, he heard laughter outside and froze. Was it Rhaedalyn coming in from breakfast to start her day? He hadn't paid proper attention to the position of the sun to give himself ample time so it was likely. Quietly, Ulliendis set everything back as he found it and threw himself on her couch, posing as if he passed out drunk there.

A cut off scream indicated that it was indeed Rhaedalyn, possibly covering her mouth as she discovered him. Ulliendis stirred, mumbling about his head and dry throat and made a show of struggling to sit up. "Huh? Weyrwoman? Why are you in--" Uliiendis cut himself off as he looked around the room, eyes growing wide as he realised he was in an office. "Crud. Sorry, m'am. I thought my bed wasn't as comfortable as usual." He gave a weak laugh and rubbed the back of his head before standing on wobbly legs.

"Heck of a night, I assure you. Never party with... with... huh. B'r-... T'd-... I'll let you know when I remember," Ulliendis promised with a shake of a finger to punctuate the point. He wished her a good day and stumbled to and out the door all before Rhaedalyn could do much more than hope he felt better. She was too sweet and trusting, though from what he gathered, this was a hardened version of the woman they all remembered from Katila. She apparently had a backbone now but Ulliendis could see she was still too kind and easily duped.

At least he got a little information and learned it was still better to have fun at night.
