742.08.07 | Full Bloom Hatching - Casa - 16.Aug.21 Casa wandered in from the Weyrwoman’s quarters, a glass filled with fresh, cool fruit juice in hand. The heat of the Hatching grounds was causing the glass to sweat, little droplets of water running down it and over Casa’s fingers. She wasn’t paying it any attention, however, as she made her way onto the sands and over to where Thallyath was poised, position anxious and excited with her wings just slightly extended and focus intent upon egg number six. “Any new progress?” Casa asked her dragon, slipping up beside her and patting her gently on the jawline. Thallyath gave a soft puff of breath, and hummed quietly. As the Sands began to fill with hopeful Candidates – as well as leering ones – the eggs took up wobbling, as if the ground were shaking. Egg number 6 had gone quiet after the last big crack, leaving the way clear for egg nine to be the first to Hatch; a delicate little green broke through her shell, tumbling head over tail before sprawling in the warmth of the sands. She looked around without moving her head, before quietly picking herself up and giving a wobbly shake. Sand sprinkled the ground around her, and Casa smiled to herself as the first bond was made. Sure, green wasn’t the best colour to start a Hatching with, but the dragonet seemed strong and sure, even if she was on the small side. But then, the eggs were small, so Casa didn’t think any of the babies would be particularly big – not with such tiny parents. Casa had barely finished that thought when two more eggs exploded; egg eight revealing another green, while egg 3 gave way to a blue. Casa applauded excitedly as the two dragonets took in their surroundings, and then each other curiously. Their Impression was just as relaxed as the first, and Casa breathed a sigh of relief when Not wanting to be left out of the excitement, Egg 10 began to rock, managing to tip over in the process. That allowed the shell to become covered in cobwebbed cracks, and with one great shove against the inside, egg 10 revealed another blue; Just as Apparently pleased with his actions, As if knowing better than to upstage their golden sister, a long break followed her glorious Impression. Casa sent a brat off to get her more juice and a snack for herself and her friends while they waited, knowing the kid would be fleet of foot lest they chance missing what happened next. She was right, and they were back about five minutes before action started once more – starting with egg 01; another green claimed the stage, followed swiftly when Egg 07 hatche3d to reveal another blue brother. They impressed quickly and without incident, which had Casa both relieved and anxious; the quicker and tidier the Impressions, the more worried she became that the rug was going to be ripped out from under their feet. She could feel Thallyath’s anxiety even as the dragon did her best to shove it away and ignore it. Egg 04 was the next to breakshell, and Casa gave a happy gasp when the little brown head popped out of the hole, and was followed by an equally brown body. So he wasn’t a bronze, but he was brown and that meant this clutch wasn’t all blues and greens, which was good! Casa whistled softly between her teeth when While everyone was focused on Not to be left until dead last, Egg 05 seemed to completely combust around the dragonet that was within it, leaving While Hot on their heels, as if afraid they would be dubbed as failures, egg 12 and Egg 02 both shook frantically, rolling around on the spot and sounds of distress coming from within; one young man stepped forward and gave Egg 12 a good kick, helping to shatter the egg around the baby within. Without his shell, Casa blinked as she realised the Hatching was over; for it had both been remarkably swift, and there was no injury to take note of. Turning to S’far, Casa grabbed his face between both her hands and planted a warm kiss on his lips, before releasing him as she laughed softly. She had no words for how elated she was by the whole ordeal – not one scratch! No death, no duds! Casa just beamed as she watched the new Weyrlings being herded off to eat, bathe, and be oiled. This is an open Solo, so you are welcome to post if you wish, but it also doesn't matter if no one posts :) RE: 742.08.07 | Full Bloom Hatching - Orgailian - 16.Aug.21 Orgailian was just returning up the path from the beach when Thallyath’s bellow was heard. Was he late? Was this a last second warning? He ran for the barracks, discovering along the way that everyone else was doing the same. It seemed she was waiting for the last second before calling everyone in. He could kind of appreciate that. It sucked getting ready when the first wobble happened and then they stood around on the hot sand in the stifling cavern for over an hour before anything else happened. The sense of urgency also made it feel more exciting and even had him smiling as he readied himself. He arrived with the middle of the pack and headed to his usual place. It had a good view of the clutch as well as the spectators, though he did wonder how many would be coming from outside the Weyr that day with the very short notice. As more people filed in, it did seem like word managed to reach some people as Weyrleader S’far and a few other dragons, including Syrendryth, were among them. That was good. He may not have been as excited to proudly support Casa like Mylorah was but Orgailian was still glad to see she had supporters on the Sands and in the stands. Orgailian chuckled at the helpful blue and how proud he seemed to be for getting his golden sister to make her debut. He would bet several marks on those two getting along well, like Malvayth and Taith from what T’ryn told him. Unfortunately that little blue didn’t bond to him or Zoremet and the gold didn’t go to Mylorah. He wasn’t standing near her this time and stared at her until he caught her eye and she smiled and gave a shrug. Typical. Not much ever seemed to faze her. The Hatching progressed at a surprisingly decent pace and with few incidents after that. Maybe the key to a safer Hatching was a proper time of day. Everyone was more alert than when they were dragged out of bed or kept from getting any sleep. But he wasn’t an expert on such things and also knew you couldn’t stop a hatchling or dictate when it was their time to come. Orgailian was just happy to have them come at all. When only a couple of eggs were left, Orgailian frowned at the one closest to him. It was wriggling about frantically and he swore he could hear whimpering from within the shell. Was the hatchling too weak to, well, hatch? Maybe it just needed some assistance, like the gold had earlier. Going against his better judgement and risking the wrath of Casa, Thallyath, and several other higher ranking riders, Orgailian decided to follow that blue’s lead and strode out to the wobbling egg. Without stopping to think about it, Orgailian gave a swift kick to the shell, leaving behind a decent hole that sent cracks outward along the shell. The hatchling spilled out seconds later and didn’t even glance his way before darting off to bond to someone else. Orgailian gave a little laugh and shake of his head at the response but at least he had helped the baby. The Hatching was over soon after that and he was once again leaving solo. Given he was still on the fence about if and when he wanted to Impress, that was fine by him. He didn’t want to linger either given the stunt he had pulled, no matter how helpful it was. So Orgailian simply slipped out with a group that was also leaving. Maybe he’d change and go get some dinner and then see who was at the party. RE: 742.08.07 | Full Bloom Hatching - Mylorah - 16.Aug.21 This was a nice change of pace, Mylorah decided as she quickly changed into her robe and pulled her hair up. It seemed most Hatchings happened overnight or during a major event. This one was late afternoon so the only downside would be a later dinner and the rushing about everyone was doing. But she still managed to get there with some time to spare—and that included making sure Zoremet wasn’t lost and had himself put together as well. She didn’t put much stock into the first to hatch superstition so when a green kicked it all off, Mylorah was just happy to see a healthy baby dragon and gave her all the proper amount of cooing she could from across the area. She really was adorable and she knew the boy that Impressed and was happy for him as well. That excitement froze for the moment as a blue started poking about the gold egg until she finally released the breath she was holding and giggled. Clever boy! It was always nice to help out where one could! Sadly, neither the blue nor the gold came her way and Mylorah watched the pairs head off together as she tried to hide her longing. She did smile at the gold’s order and wished the girl luck. When she noticed Orgailian staring at her, she smiled some more and shrugged. She didn’t need to say it, knowing he’d hear her words in her look. It would happen when it was meant to happen. There was still time and sometimes Mylorah was glad when she left without a dragon as it meant she didn’t have to change how and when she did things—and of course not worry about going without any sort of sexual interaction for six months. That was a definite perk of staying unimpressed. But there was always a bit of lingering doubt that perhaps she wasn’t good enough. It didn’t have much of a chance to latch onto her this time, however, as Orgailian started moving toward an egg and Mylorah gasped and took a step forward before catching herself. They didn’t need two of them out there but when he kicked the egg, maybe she should have gone after all. What was he doing?! Mylorah glanced at Thallyath and then back at her brother, wondering if this was the last time she’d see him alive but a dragonet tumbled free of the egg and was soon prancing off to his lifemate. Crisis was temporarily diverted but maybe she’d throttle her brother later for being so ballsy like that. When everything came to an end, Mylorah was shocked to see the healers seemed almost bored with how little they had to do. Finally! And with Thallyath’s clutch as well! Maybe more would Stand for her next one after this one cleansed the palette from her first. Thrilled for the gold pair, Mylorah darted across the Sands so she could go hug and congratulate Casa. And then food and dancing! |
