742.06.08 | Sunny Afternoon Conversations - L'gan - 13.Jun.21

Looking for an excuse to stretch their wings, and wanting to check in on friends at Benden, L’gan and Semath had taken a quick flight over the afternoon following the Hatching. The usual gossips had been a bit quieter about this hatching, so he hadn’t heard yet if Narinoa or the few other candidates L’gan knew by name had Impressed. Besides, this way he could hand off a copy of his notes on Erebuth’s recovery in person for the dragonhealing programs.

Semath had dropped him off, then gone to visit with Varralath if the blue was around and unoccupied. Amused by her persistent flirtations with the blue over the years, he hadn’t given it much thought, dropping by the weyrling barracks and to see who he could find. He spent a while talking with the Weyrlingmaster, thrilled to hear it had been a relatively calm hatching. Offering to help with the day-one checkups took a little more time than he anticipated, but luckily the class seemed to have escaped any major injuries or illnesses.

A few brief inquiries pointed him in Narinoa’s direction, and he finally found his friend soaking up the afternoon sunshine. Nudging his foot lightly to let him know he was there, L’gan sank down next to him. “Going to stick around for Iliyith’s clutch, then?” he asked after a few moments just enjoying the sun. “Or just haven’t found a ride back to Ista yet?”

Narinoa cracked open an eye to see who was nudging his foot and grinned when he saw L’gan. It had been a while since he’d seen the greenrider and he found he had missed him now that he saw him. He supposed keeping busy and not having a dragon of his own for easier visits would do that. “Sticking around,” he answered as he sat up and gave a little stretch.

“I’d offer to cover up but I don’t think you’ve ever minded the view,” Narinoa teased with a light chuckle though he did grab his shirt that had been his pillow to move it beside him. He wasn’t likely to leave without it but it didn’t hurt to keep the reminder more in his line of sight. His shorts still hung low and he should have pulled them up before sitting up but it was too late now. At least he remained covered, though like he stated, he doubted his friend would mind.

“What brings you to Benden? If it’s to console me on another failed attempt at Impressing, I’m fine, I promise. It’s getting closer to the end for me but I’ll still have the dragonhealing.” That really did help keep him positive. Without that, he would have been useless and left to tend to the herd beasts or some such essential but disheartening job for the rest of his life.

L’gan laughed at the tease but didn’t argue. “Since when have you had a sense of propriety during leisure hours anyway,” he teased back. The extra sun and the relaxed posture agreed with his friend, who seemed much more confident and even focused than he had been before they’d worked together with Thallyath’s first clutch.

“Checking to see if anyone I knew had Impressed. But I figured you were in a better place about it or you’d have written. If it’s meant to happen, it will, and if not, you’re setting up a damn fine program at Ista from what I hear.” He flashed Narinoa a genuine smile.

“I brought notes on Erebuth for you and for the group here when they’re ready. Damned little blue nearly gave us an apoplexy the other day—he’s been climbing and gliding from the lip of the Bowl so he can get high enough to jump between. Showed off right in front of Semath and she encouraged him to do it again, the menace.” He rolled his eyes slightly but he knew the green meant well. It was an encouraging sign, and they’d had the pair working to build up his strength to try carrying B’kit again in the next few weeks. “They want to be able to come for Iliyith’s hatching.”

Narinoa could argue that he lacked a sense of propriety during business hours as well but he merely grinned at his friend instead. No need continuing to state the obvious. Besides, it was nice hearing someone else notice he seemed to be in a better place and his sassy look melted into a genuine smile of his own. Amazing what cleaning up his act and focusing could do! Earning the respect of his peers wasn't something he was used to, not since his days in the Hall.

"That damn fine program had better be up to snuff since it's been running without me for a couple of weeks now and will continue to as I'm staying until Iliyith's Hatching. No sense in hopping around, especially since I can stay and help organise things here for a bit." It wasn't much to do, truthfully. The cave already existed given it was an old craft they were reviving. It was merely getting the right supplies and going over what they had learned with everyone again. L'gan's newest notes would play a large part in that and Narinoa perked up the mention of them.

"Bu was always shy but also determined. I'm surprised it took him this long to start his own regime." Narinoa chuckled softly and shook his head as he thought of the little blue. He missed the fella, and B'kit as well, but Narinoa had a fondness for the dragon. Seeing them both right after the lightning strike had nearly destroyed him and he worked nonstop with L'gan and Eb'zer to make sure they didn't lose them.

"I hope they can make the trip. Who knows, maybe with them in the audience once more, I'll find myself leaving with a dragon of my own!" He could only hope but Narinoa wasn't going to start messing around with superstitions. Just having some friends there to possibly see his big moment or his latest grand failure would be good enough.

"Are you staying long or just doing quick check ins and dropping off the notes?" He hoped it would be for a while. Maybe he could even get L'gan to shrug off his shirt and responsibilities for a little while and enjoy the sun with him.
