Impressing Toynolth was the greatest thing that ever happened to T'cai, and he is quite happy to help new weyrlings get their start on such an exciting chapter in their own lives. Toynolth is especially friendly and outgoing, and when they aren't teaching a weyrling class the two go out on Search. A bit eccentric, more traditionally minded students might find some of his methods or analogies off putting or confusing, but he's persistent and patient enough to come up with new approaches and methods until he's satisfied the lessons have been understood. He enjoys learning about his students, especially about their passions, and is frequently willing to just sit and chat after classes are over. He will make bonechimes for any student who asks for one.
Teaching Style
T'cai prefers hands on practical classes to lectures in general, and tries to incorporate demonstrations and practice into as many of his lessons as he can. He also enjoys bringing in subject matter experts for lecture heavy topics, especially for Flights and post Flight etiquette. He's also fond of using odd analogies and metaphors and frequently includes anecdotes of questionable validity or theoretical scenarios to help get a point across.
Usual Punishments
Not the strictest disciplinarian, T'cai is likely to turn a blind eye to some more innocent transgressions or take the time to explain why something isn't acceptable rather than immediately punish for it. When the situation does call for it, he generally assigns extra exercise for small offenses, usually sending weyrlings to run laps around the bowl or to do push ups. For conflicts between werlings he's likely to assign cooperative punishments, forcing them to at least practice working together or even tolerating each other to get whatever task has been assigned to them over with. He's of the opinion that getting into mischief with a buddy is safer than trying to sneak off to do something alone, so he's not likely to separate weyrlings who get into trouble together unless it is obvious that one of the weyrlings has significant influence over the other, or things escalate.
After the second month, do not try to talk to him before dawn unless it is an emergency. Instead of doing morning evaluations on dragons he does them immediately after lunch. Weyrlings who have any concerns are welcome to ask for a checkup prior.
Additional Candidate Restrictions
T'cai won't allow candidates who have runny noses, sniffles, or other signs of respiratory illness onto the Sands for the Touching. If they develop symptoms after the Touching he'll begrudgingly allow them to Stand.
Additional Weyrling Requirements
He places a lot of emphasis on exercise and requires that weyrlings begin daily routines starting in the second month since he believes the activity also helps the hatchlings settle into more regular sleep schedules.
