Ista Isle is amused by the weaklings of Benden, but at least their heat is dry. Benden is muggy and riddled with heavy thunderstorms and downpours.

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

Casa looked up from her paperwork, watching with a half smile as Thallyath fussed around the eggs still. She was setting them all up, making sure there was a nice distance between each of the thirteen bundles of joy, and that each of them was in immaculate condition. The gold egg, her pride and joy, was being kept close by, where it would be safe and she could scowl fiercely at anyone that got too close before she was ready to let them. Thallyath had been trying to insist that only the girls she picked would be allowed to touch her precious golden egg, but Casa vetoed that, and Thallyath had given in, reluctantly but gracefully – if only because no one knew of the battle and her loss.

“Are you ready, love?” Casa asked, standing up and stretching tall, arms reaching for the ceiling as she stood on her tiptoes, before almost collapsing in on herself. She fluffed her skirt, this one of her longer ones, it reached her knees, and she bent down to pull on her slippers so she could go close to the sands without burning the soles of her feet. Oh, I guess so, Thallyath said lowly, twisting around a little from where she stood in the centre of the clutch, which was spread out widely – some four to five meters between each egg. It was a good thing her clutch was small!

“Alright,” Casa walked down to the edge of the stands, and waved over at the Weyrlingmaster that was in charge of the future group, letting them know that the first group could enter and start Touching the eggs. Finally. Casa had been extremely worried about the whole ordeal, until she’d started numbering the eggs – that had shown her some idea of the little inmates; they were alive, bright, inquisitive, and excited to grow and break free of their shells. Casa had been enthusiastic in her retelling of what she’d felt, and had breathed a sigh of relief when the information spread, and the candidate group grew.

Now all they had to do was survive the Touching, and match everyone up at the Hatching. And hopefully, everything would go well and not at all like usual.

This is an NPC clutch, but hopefully you can have some fun with your kids!

Note that there are 12 regular eggs, and 1 gold egg. Gold egg is not numbered.

Thallyath’s eggs are a little on the small side, with them sitting around 3-4 feet high instead of the usual 4-5 feet. The gold egg is also notably small, very similar in size to the regular eggs.

Eggs are bumpy and awkwardly shaped, not like chicken eggs but more like reptile eggs that harden over time.

Your candidate can touch as many eggs as you want – excluding men from the gold – but please keep it to a single egg per post and don’t forget to mention which egg you are touching when you touch it!

Thank you! Have fun! :D

Mylorah was near the front of the group waiting to be allowed permission to enter the Hatching Ground. She wanted to make sure how clear it was that she supported Thallyath still and didn’t fear this clutch. It helped that a bronze had sired it and that was a point she used to help convince Candidates that they better get their butts out there as well. She also wasn’t shy about reminding people that she also had horrible visions from the last Touching—ones that still sometimes latched onto her late at night when her guard was down. But this time would be different, how could it not be?

When they were allowed in, Mylorah was smiling and waved at Casa and gave a little giggle at Thallyath sitting in the middle of the clutch. Already she could see how proud the gold was of the clutch and the atmosphere simply felt better than last time. She had no doubts that there could still be negative reactions, but that was common at any Touching. But this one wouldn’t stand above the others like before.

They were once again reminded of the rules and set free. Normally Mylorah would start with the standard eggs but this time she went right for the gold. It was all a part of her plan to show support. There would be no hesitation and maybe she’d even Touch more than the usual few that she went for. As she stepped up to it, it became even more obvious how tiny it and the other eggs were. But that didn’t worry her given Thallyath’s size. Did they really expect such a small dragon to carry thirteen full size eggs? Still with confidence and positivity coursing through her, Mylorah laid a hand on the warm shell.

Gold eggie, please.

Orgailian was all for supporting family and friends but he hadn’t been too sure about Thallyath’s latest clutch. He still remembered clearly his own reaction to the eggs and how others had suffered as well and he didn’t want to repeat that. It didn’t matter that any egg ran the chance of fucking with their minds and pointing out flaws or horrible things they had done. None of those experiences came close to what that cursed clutch gave. But Mylorah was persistent, obnoxious even, and he eventually joined her ranks of loyal Candidates. He particularly found her argument about how ditching this Hatching would be an insult to the Ista Weywoman and the Telgar Weyrleader. Like he really cared about that but he rolled his eyes and agreed all the same.

It looked like a healthier clutch, at least. It was his first time getting a proper look at it, having only stood in the entrance once previously to call out for Casa and then leaving. Now, Orgailian took a moment to gaze upon the clutch. It was larger than the last, but a bronze sire would do that, and while they were still small, the eggs seemed healthier. Thallyath also seemed liked she loved these eggs while before she was miserable and looked like she would have abandoned them if it wasn’t for duty.

His feet guided him to an egg more in the centre of the cluster when they were able to begin. Again, he didn’t have a goal in mind, just walked until he stopped before an egg. This one would do and Orgailian studied it for the briefest of moments before whispering, “let’s see what you have in store for me,” as he placed his palm against the surface.

Egg 4, please.

Ulliendis had only been in Ista Weyr for a week but he had decided it wasn’t bad. It was damned hot but not as humid as Benden’s disgusting weather when he left had been. His hair was doing much better in the dry heat but he still sweat for more than he liked. At least give him a fun activity to work up such a sweat! But he would deal with it because his curiosity demanded it. He’d heard so much about the disaster Touching and Hatching that he couldn’t stay behind and miss out on what could happen now. At least he could meet the dragon and rider behind it all if nothing else. He doubted either would be up for an interview about it but perhaps he’d still try in his time on the island.

As he walked to the side of the clutch that the Weyrwoman was closer to, Ulliendis smiled and gave her a wink before turning back to the eggs. He sidestepped another Candidate that snuck in to get to the egg he was headed to. Why rush? It was a smaller clutch so they’d have time to Touch most of them if they wanted. Instead of waiting for that egg, Ulliendis went over to the next one that was still unoccupied and claimed it as his own for the moment.

Zory was delighted to stand for a clutch in Ista back where it was nice and toasty and warm all the time instead of just for sporadic moments. Maybe he'd get lucky and Impress here so that he wouldn't have to suffer through a cold winter! It was certainly an appealing thought, and made it easy to be excited despite all of the stories he'd heard about Thallyath's last clutch.

This one had to be better right? Casa seemed excited and hopeful, the gold seemed proud and protective, and there was even a gold egg so that had to be a good sign! Still, he'd stopped to get some reassurance and hugs from his siblings that morning before they'd headed over to go wait.

Now that he was here though he took a moment to study the eggs and... was it wrong to like that they looked small? It had to be easier to oil a smaller dragon, and even the smallest dragon was amazing and could easily handle having him as a rider. With a deep breath, Zoremet set out to find an egg to touch, wandering and roaming until he finally settled on one that looked right. He gave a nervous glance around to his siblings before catching one of their eyes and giving a thumbs up before he set his hand on the shell. "Hello."

Zelly stretched as she waited with the group of other candidates. She was pretty excited, though perhaps not as excited as some of the other candidates. On the plus side she also wasn't as nervous about it as some of the others. She'd heard the stories of this gold's last touching and hatching, but she hadn't been there herself, and with how stories and rumors tended to run wild and out of control she wasn't really sure what to believe.

She gave Ullie and Gail little waves as once they were allowed on the Sands, and she took a moment to figure out which egg she was going to touch. With people already lining up for the gold, she decided to circle around and eye the other eggs. Maybe if she picked a good one, she could get her own dragon and not have to pester A'tay for rides for her brother. She could give them to him herself! Or convince him to stay in the Weyr and get his own!

That was a fun thought and it made Zelana smile. She'd be fine if her brother decided to leave their parents high and dry... but it probably wouldn't be good for them. Eh, she'd bring it up in her next letter. For now she walked up to a nice egg and set her hands on it with a cheery, "Hi!"

Gold Egg (Mylorah)
What is this? Who are you? Why are you touching…? The questions come with fierceness that belies the underlying fear of invasion. The dragonet within is cautious and distrustful as she slinks around on the outskirt of your mind, giving sharp little jabs here and there, looking for weakness, somewhere to penetrate from. The best angle for an attack. But that doesn’t give you any fear – instead, it is more like the stalking antics of a young firelizard – a creature who thinks it is fierce, undeniably strong, impossible to defeat – and yet shrieks in fear and surprise when you touch the tip of its tail. The little gold dragon within puffs up indignantly, and then withdraws with every sensation her nose in the air.

Egg #4 (Orgailian)
Irritation was what was in store for Orgailian as his hand landed on the shell of the egg. Inside, the youngster gave an angry old man grumble, shifting and turning mentally before figuring the intrusion was coming from the young man. The dragonet gave a mental hiss, shoving against Orgailian’s mind with a sudden rush, before retreating to the corner, grumbling and unhappy about their nap having been interrupted. It had been such a good dream, too.

Egg #2 (Ulliendis)
Unlike its grumpy siblings, this dragonet latched onto the invasion with curiosity and interest, slipping easily from one through to the next and creating breezy swirls in the mind of Ulliendis. Who was he? Why was he? What was he? The questions flooded Ulliendis’ mind, and were followed by more, as any thought that managed to surface was immediately gripped, examined, and questioned – mostly on the mundane. What was grass? Why was the sky blue? Wait, what is blue? And so on.

Egg #12 (Zoremet)
The sudden Touch startled the little dragonet within the shell, but in a good way – it was so lonely all by itself where the egg had been set, without any of the sibling eggs close by, or the strong presence of mother to keep the egg warm and safe. Was Zoremet going to be their guardian, now? Why though? Was that why Zoremet felt so unsure? Was he in charge now? Oh charge of what, though? Would there be many others? Would it be lonely, being in charge? Or would it be social and loud and thriving with life?

Egg #1 (Zelana)
The cheerfulness of Zelana was infectious and the dragonet within the egg latched onto it in a flurry of curiosity as her top most thoughts were picked at, prodded, and suddenly Zelana’s mind was filled with the deepest of emerald jealousy. Who were these people when all thoughts should be on the egg and the glorious beast within. What were these plans, so confidently thought up and ready to put into play. Was that really the only reason Zelana wanted a dragon? How inappropriate! Dragons were life mates, they were to be treasured as the dragon would treasure their human. Not an over fed firelizard to be used and tossed aside when they were done with. The dragonet bristled and gave Zelana a solid mental shove, trying to get the young woman to go away!

Zoremet wanted to just wrap his arms around the egg in a soothing hug. Was he good enough to try and keep the baby safe? He didn't know, but he could at least try and help until he found someone stronger to come along and help them. He had a couple of brothers and friends who were good at making him feel safe, they'd probably help this little dragon too! Though he wasn't sure if he was cut out to be in charge of things. He could try?

He frowned as he thought about it. Were people in charge lonely? Casa certainly didn't seem lonely. The other Weyrleaders had mates except for the one in Telgar and Zoremet didn't know much about him. Maybe however lonely or loud things were depended on the individual? He wasn't sure if that would really help the curious and lonely little dragon, but maybe someone else would touch him or her who had better answers.

He finally pulled his hand free and took a look around, wondering what other egg to touch next. After a quick scan, Zory spotted another egg and made his way to it, gently setting his hands against it as he gave another curious greeting as he waited to see what would happen.

Zelana had heard that dragons could get jealous, but all of the ones she'd met had seemed so nice that she was still caught off guard by how intensely upset this one was. She could appreciate multiple things at the same time! Just like she appreciated her brother and A'tay and T'ryn and Orgailian and... well, maybe she wasn't really helping the situation.

She tried to think some sort of soothing thought, but the little dragon didn't seem to want anything to do to her. Zelly knew she would treasure whatever dragon she had, but that didn't mean she would stop appreciating the other people in her life! She was sure whatever dragon chose her, she'd be able to prove it.

After she received another little mental shove she relented, straightening up and marching away from the egg with a soft huff of her own. She was tempted to go find another normal egg to touch, but instead decided to go have her turn with the golden egg. Zelana took a deep breath first, trying to make sure she didn't try to carry any negativity from one egg to another, especially not not to the gold egg.

A few positive thoughts, some fun thoughts about her favorite people, and she felt more equipped to be her cheery and bright self for a good introduction to the gold. She whispered a soft hello as she set her hand on the egg.

Orgailian laughed out loud at the dragonet's antics and the way he was mentally shoved out. Now this was a dragon he could relate to! He glanced around the Sands, noting that he had drawn some attention at his outburst. He didn't care and only smiled, though he was tempted to flip them off in his own way of shoving them aside. "Sorry to bother you, buddy," Orgailian whispered and made note of the egg's number so he could keep an eye out for it at the Hatching. He wasn't sure if he wanted to bond with such a grumpy old man but there was some appeal and he could easily see mutual enjoyment happening if he did. Maybe he would find out in a handful of days.

Resisting the urge to give the egg a little farewell pat, Orgailian stepped back to decide on his path. He ended up walking by several eggs that were already occupied with others waiting in line until he got to one that only had one person who was frowning at the shell. Either a bad review had been given or some deep introspective dive had happened. Seemed fun. Orgailian replaced his fellow Candidate once the other boy had walked off, somewhat excited to see what he was about to receive this time.

Ulliendis was amused by his little mind-invader; and a bit dizzy from the swirly patterns he swore he could see clearly. He gave answer to as many questions as he could catch, finding it easy to do given his love of talking, even if he wasn't actually talking. But he was a wordsmith and could create delightful images with them and paint what he saw in his mind for others to enjoy. Mostly. He preferred the shadier side of the Harper Hall that so many people seemed to forget about or simply didn't know exist but he could still tell one hell of a story. So he did. Bringing up images to answer questions and purposely linking them to something else that might interest his friend, and smiling when he stumped the creature more often than not. Would this one be as delightful upon hatching or will it have a better understanding of such things when it came into the world? It was hard to say but Ulliendis leaned more toward to the theory that dragonets understood so much within minutes of hatching because of their mate's knowledge. It made the most sense to him.

Before parting, Ulliendis brought up an image of a heart to reflect his love of their time together and physically blew a kiss at the egg. Such fun! He was definitely inspired to go after some more and compare the interactions. And that he did after a few minutes of waiting for an opening and moving in. He eyed the egg for a moment, though he couldn't say why. They all really did look the same, save for the gold with its slight glimmering he swore it had. Satisfied with his odd moment of inspection, Ulliendis set his palm on the surface.

Mylorah giggled softly to herself as she felt the gold lurking in her mind. She gave it a nudge, she hoped as it was hard to tell how anything worked with the Touchings and if she was skilled enough for such things, and smiled when it seemed to startle the baby. This gold seemed like one that would be fun to have around. Perhaps not as wild as Malvayth but not as stick in the mud like so many of the other older golden dragons. Mylorah felt like that would be a nice balance to have. She wanted a dragon that would support her own fun and antics but she also knew she needed someone to help guide her and keep her on the right track as she could be easily distracted. "Maybe we'll be together soon," she commented, a bit of hope back in her voice. Sometimes being left as an unImpressed knocked her confidence down a few notches and made her question her worth but Mylorah always tried to hide that from everyone since they needed her optimism when things were going south and getting scary or dangerous.

But it wasn't good to get her hopes up too much as there were a lot of wonderful women that could Impress this mischievous imp. She reigned some of it in and smiled when she saw Zelana. Now that was someone who could handle a gold like this one just as easily as she could and Mylorah would be okay with her friend Impressing as well. "We'll see soon enough, won't we? See you out there," Mylorah promised as she moved away for the next in line. Even if she didn't Impress the gold, Mylorah would be there and cheer on the pair.

But back to showing her support for Thallyath and Casa! Mylorah spun in a slow circle as she considered where to go next and finally walked toward her brothers, settling in at an egg that was between them.
