Sure enough, the hatching was finally picking up. No sooner had the stragglers from the last group Impressed than a quartet of eggs burst all at once. Two browns, a blue, and one more green came tumbling out of their shells. Brown 4, a small, chubby baby bonked his head on another egg, tipping it over onto its side. Shaking his head, somewhat dazed, he blinked around at the crowd and plopped back onto the sands for several minutes.

Green 12 hatched with her back to the crowd over near Iliyith and Rhezalth. Hungry, and seeing movement, she stalked, then pounced, biting the swishing tail in front of her none too gently. The reproachful (and certainly surprised) rebuke from the attacked parent startled her into letting go. She whined and was turned around as she complained, back towards the candidates and food.

Brown 3 and Blue 6 had found their mates during the distraction, and Eggs #21 and #28 had hatched two more sturdy looking blues. Blue 7 was the bigger of the two, but only by a little. He studied the candidates from a distance while Blue 8 made his way over more directly.

A sudden screech from Green 12 echoed through the cavern as she charged towards him and the boy he was approaching. She plowed through a few candidates who weren’t quick enough to get out of her way, but her focus was on Blue 8. That was her boy! He could choose anyone else, but not hers! Enraged, she barreled into the blue, knocking him over--and the boy as well.

She fought fiercely, tearing at his wings and clawing at his belly, not even noticing that their claws were also cutting up the boy beneath them as they scrabbled. Blue 7 saw a chance and darted over to his mate, blocking him from the brawl and physically pushing him further away. The two dragonets suddenly separated, Blue 8’s wings dragging on the sands as he howled pathetically over the boy, then blinked between. Her opponent gone, the green finally noticed the still form on the sands. Nudging him gently, then more desperately, she shrieked and threatened. But he was still limp. Keening terribly, she also flashed between.

Narinoa knew he was probably annoying the other dragonhealers with the hovering he was doing but they had the injuries well in hand and he was still trying to pay attention to the Hatching since he was still a Candidate. It also didn't hurt to have an extra set of eyes keeping tabs on any other hatchlings that might charge in their direction or there might be another one that gets injured. He had nothing to base his theory on but he wondered if the heat was contributing to the anger so many seemed to be hatching with. Did it discombobulate them or just spike the hunger and emotions they felt upon breaking through their shells?

After a while it seemed calm enough that Narinoa moved a bit closer to the clutch once more. He wasn't needed for the moment so being a Candidate could rule his focus again. That didn't last long as another fight broke out, this time between a blue and a green with a poor lad stuck in the middle of it. His instinct was to run in there and try to break it up--not that he knew how to do such a thing.

It also didn't matter as a chubby blue hatchling was suddenly in his path forcing him back the few steps he had just taken. No, N'noa! It's not safe. You need to stay back. Please. We can look after them when you can safely reach them.

Eyes wide with shock stared down at the--his--dragon. What the fuck just happened? One second he was focused on a fight with intentions to dive into the fray and the next he Impressed? "Um. Sure," not the most eloquent of first things to say to one's lifemate but that was all his brain could process before it stalled out on his new name. N'noa. He remembered a talk with friends sometime ago about what honorifcs they could get out of their names and while they all chuckled at it, N'noa really was the best option and he kind of liked it.

He loved it now.

"You're right, Atranth. I shouldn't rush in. It's better to wait when they're in a frenzy and," he didn't finish the thought as first one hatchling and then the other vanished between and the boy was unmoving on the sands. There was nothing more he could for them but the crippling hunger he now felt reminded him he had his own dragon to care for and N'noa led his dragon off towards the asisstant for name updates and then to feeding, stopping only briefly by L'gan to smile at his friend; and possibly with some tears of joy shining in his eyes.

It was only a little disappointing when the gold passed her by, but Ferra reminded herself that what she really wanted was to impress near her family. That and she had plenty of time. She'd much rather be happy for August than sad for herself, after all they both had spent time in the infirmary together and helped keep each other entertained after the poisoning. She was happy the woman had found her lifemate, and she gave August a small wave before she managed to walk off.

At least things seemed to be going much better now, the dragonets were impressing just like they ought to with only a few little silly shenanigans that were rather harmless. Most of it was rather cute, especially the little green that went off to go attack the swishing tail of a larger dragon. She'd turned away from it to watch the others, which was probably her biggest mistake she realized as suddenly there was a screech and a thud from behind her, claws raking into her left leg as the dragonet stormed heedlessly past and through her and a few other candidates.

She gritted her teeth through the pain, doing her best to try and scramble back up to her feet so she could either pretend things were fine or find a place to hide. Someone was picking her up in a way that infuriatingly reminded her of D'io and she was carried to a healer station for some numbweed and stitches.

Ferra lost count of how many stitches she was getting, but between those and the fact that the gold had already made her appearance, she didn't think she wanted to continue standing. The healer's snarky commentary that under no circumstance was she to stand without assistance anyway when she mentioned it only confirmed that. With a sigh and a grumble she agreed to let a drudge carry her out so that she could at least find somewhere comfortable to rest and see her family. Hopefully the numbweed wouldn't be wearing off any time soon.

R'dal already knew F'drel wasn't a fan of Hatchings as they had a way of messing with his anxiety but then one of his sisters started Standing and that just shot through the roof. But with the heat, R'dal felt like his friend was a bit more sedated and he had a feeling it would be a great Hatching! Or, he thought that until they both spotted Maliah arrive and instead of coming to sit with them (R'dal was frantically waving for her attention) she sat with Kor'is. For some reason this didn't seem to sit well with F'drel and R'dal had to keep patting his leg or giving little snuggles to help keep his friend calm and distracted. He personally thought it was great that those two were chatting. It was always good to make friends!

He recognised a lot of people that were Impressing and gave little cheers for each one. He also winced and bit his lip every time a dragonet attacked a sibling or a human. There seemed to be more than usual but with even Edath seeming to melt on his upper perch, R'dal wondered if the babies were extra cranky and if the heat was making the humans sluggish and they weren't dashing out of the way fast enough. Speaking of the heat, R'dal had a bag of fruit he had swiped from breakfast and kept feeding himself and F'drel to keep them hydrated and sweet; along with their water of course.

He was just cheering for August's Impression of the gold when more chaos came out. He was already partially draped over F'drel from earlier attempts to keep the man in his seat and not chasing after either sister but now R'dal fully crawled into the greenrider's lap when the gasp drew his attention to where Ferra was standing. Only now she was on the ground and it didn't look good. Not horrible, at least, but not good either.

"You can't go down there with so many hatchlings still roaming. Wait for the Healers to get to her," R'dal was pleading, an arm now around F'drel's neck as he somewhat clung to the man. He was debating to merits of completely turning around and fully clinging with arms and legs when Ferra started receiving medical attention. She seemed alert. That was good.

Once it became clear that she was being moved from the area R'dal finally scooted back over to his seat to let F'drel up. "Do you want me to go with you?" He asked softly, almost afraid he'd be turned down but the nod he was given eased those fears and R'dal quickly grabbed his bag and followed after his friend.

Ulliendis was allowed to continue Standing since his boot took more damage than he did but he was still a bit scraped and nibbled on and clearly could suffer from this at any moment. So he went to Rhamnus' station so he could lean against the table for support and chat with the Healer when nothing else was happening. "I need physical and emotional support in this trying time," he said as way of explanation before discussing the various dramas, like how he was a hero for pushing Madelan aside. Rhamnus kept giving him looks and grunts but had yet to be as grumpy and horrible as everyone said he was which only proved Ulliendis' theory that he was utterly loveable and even the meanest of Healers fell under his spell.

As much as he did enjoy drama, Ulliendis was very much over the injuries. Couldn't the dragonets switch it up a bit? The gold hatching was a good start, he decided as he tracked her movements right to August. From what he knew of the woman, he felt her being on gold was a good choice. When she walked by them, Ulliendis couldn't help but notice her face and that of Rhamnus. He knew those two got together regularly but he thought it was just sex and weird model building. "Looks like you'll have to find a replacement sassy woman to fill your time with now." That earned him another look but Ulliendis just smiled.

"Hey, can Bitty bring me a muffin? I saw her do that for you earlier and I'm a bit peckish." The bowl of sliced fruit was practically thrown at him with how hard Rhamnus shoved it across the table. "Fine. This is better for my figure anyway," he chuckled and stopped talking for a few minutes as he ate fruit before cringing as the violent drama returned.

The death of one human and two dragonets started up the keening and brought the mood down but Ulliendis also spotted Narinoa staring at a pudgy blue and focused on that scene instead. "Narinoa Impressed. Do you know him? Chill guy, dragonhealer, great in bed."

Since learning of his father's death, R'dare hadn't been too keen on being around large groups of people. He could handle a friend or two for short periods of time but he just couldn't bring himself to be happy or sociable or just plain present most of the time. It was hurting the work he helped Casa with when he was able to show up and his friends were being far too kind to him by putting up with it all. Maybe that was why he found the determination to be there for his friends that were Standing in Benden.

Even with that determination he still arrived a bit late. As Kadaisicalth decided to wait out in the Bowl so he wouldn't cause a distraction, R'dare quietly slipped inside, skirting the edge so he could climb into the stands and find the nearest open spot. A quick glance showed a few dragonets off having their first meal with their mates and he managed a smile as memories swarmed him of Impressing Kadaisicalth. Those happy memories naturally included seeing how proud his dad was and R'dare had to bite his lip to keep it from trembling and stared up at the ceiling to try to keep from crying.

Trying to lock down those memories and emotions, R'dare focused on his friends that were Standing and hoping they stayed cool, safe, and Impressed. That seemed to do the trick for a while, even with some of the scarier moments. But his friends were fine and dragonets were finding their mates. Unfortunately the gold bonded with August, which was a bit unfair of him to think. He didn't know her all that well but assumed it would be a good fit. He was just bummed that she didn't end up with Mylorah or Zelana.

After that came a needed laugh as a little green nibbled on the tail of one of her parents. That was too adorable and R'dare wondered if she would keep that trait of random nibbles as she grew. He hoped so but the smile he held at the thought faltered when she screeched and ran for a blue and a boy.

Another brawl broke out and a boy got caught in it. He didn't see his father's body when he arrived to do the honours of delivering him between. The healers had wrapped him up to save him from seeing what R'dare had been told was a brutal attack. But now... the two hatchlings going between like sweet Gamalieth would have done upon R'jit's death and leaving the body of the boy visible with all the slashes and markings... R'dare could only picture his dad lying there and covered his mouth as he felt bile rising up.

He had to leave. He couldn't stay there and torment himself while ruining a special day for so many others. Still with a hand over his mouth, R'dare jumped to his feet and dashed back the way he had come earlier, fleeing to the comfort of his dragon out in the Bowl where he finally vomited. Moving away several feet from the mess, R'dare curled up against Kadaisicalth's side and sighed. He couldn't go back in there but he could at least stay to see if anyone else he knew Impressed and then head home and go back into hiding.

Orgailian was reaching a point where maybe he could just leave and no one would mind. It was hot and not exactly the safest place to be milling about. No one could blame him, right? Even he didn’t believe that and would judge himself if he turned and strutted out the door. Every Hatching was dangerous, that was just the way they were and if you couldn’t handle standing around on hot sand in a hot cave with a bit of risk and danger, then how could you handle being a dragonrider in the middle of Thread? He just had to suck it up and get over any discomforts.

He mostly did and going for water and a slice of melon helped cool off some of his nerves. He even managed to not feel too disappointed for his sister when the gold never even came in her direction before Impressing to August. He was going to tease Mylorah about it, knowing she’d see the humour in it but Zelly was also standing there and Orgailian wasn’t quite sure how much she wanted to be a goldrider, or even a dragonrider. They talked while researching together but that subject had never really come up outside of him gathering healing was becoming more important.

When another squabble started and escalated quickly into a fight on top of a boy, Orgailian forgot about everything else that had been on his mind—though it did prove his point about the Sands being a danger zone. He didn’t know who the kid was and while he felt bad for him, he wasn’t about to intervene. Too bad that couldn’t be said about a young healer that was also like a sister to him.

Cursing under his breath, Orgailian sprinted toward M’quel and grabbed her arm to stop her from continuing on her path into huge trouble. “Madi, no. You know you can’t get into the middle of that.” He tried to keep his voice calm since yelling wouldn’t help anyone and he didn’t want to show how afraid he was of the idea of her getting mauled. He didn’t even have to look into the stands to know A’tay and even T’ryn would be wearing horrified expressions as well.

“There’s nothing to feel guilty about either,” Orgailian pointed out on a hunch. He knew she had missed attending several Hatchings after Impressing Zezeth and one of those had been at Fort where a friend of hers was horribly mauled. M’quel cared deeply for her friends and Orgailian had a feeling she blamed herself for some part of that mauling despite logically knowing even if she was on the Sands as a Candidate or healer that she wouldn’t have been able to prevent what happened. This kid was possibly a way to make up for that. Of course he could be way off base and it was just M’quel’s caring nature and need to help that was driving her without a thought of her friend.

Either way, when both hatchlings vanished and the damage could be seen, Orgailian pulled M’quel in for a hug, angling her away from the body. She was a healer and such things might become a normal sight but it didn’t have to start that day.

When the gold hatched, Mylorah found she was holding her breath. She could never make up her mind if she wanted gold or not since a dragon was a dragon and she’d be honoured to Impress to any. But when this gold didn’t even consider her, it was a bit of letdown. Still, she gave a genuine smile and little cheer for August. A glance at her companions showed various emotions and she could tell at least one of them wanted to tease her, likely about being a forever Candidate but really, Orgailian had been Standing for almost the same length of time.

“Gold’s not everything. There’s still plenty of eggs in this clutch and one of them might contain my—our—dragon,” she reminded them and included Zelana in that hope for a dragon. She could easily see her friend on a fighting dragon and any wing would be lucky to have her in it. Maybe that was where she belonged as well. Maybe a pretty blue boy was meant to be hers and not a lovely gold lady. It wasn’t the first time she struggled with those ideas but it did occupy her for a bit until the fight started and her brother was running off.

Was there something in R’nd’s blood that made them all act like crazy heroes? First she jumped in front of a charging bronze to protect Ayontay, T’ryn just had to save everyone, and now Orgailian was running off to… oh. Oh! She hadn’t seen M’quel moving toward the fight but her brother had and got to her in time to keep her from getting herself injured.

Just as she was starting to relax over a crisis being averted, Mylorah saw Ferra being helped off with a bloody leg. How had she missed that! She felt horrible and wanted to run over to the girl but knew she would only be in the way. Instead she looked into the stands and found F’drel in his usual spot near the back… with R’dal sitting on him? She would have laughed any other time but this time it was likely to keep the man in his seat and not go after his sister and she knew that fear and desire well.

After the commotion of the last batch, the whole cavern was slightly on edge. Helyna had stolen glances at N’mor’s face and he seemed to be as conflicted as she was about the whole clutch. But still, there did seem to be several good dragons in the bunch, and maybe it was just the unseasonable heat that was making them all cranky. Besides--Iliyith was still extremely proud of their first gold daughter!

Egg #33 was the next to crack, the top popping up and sticking on the dragonet’s head like a silly helmet or hat. Blue 9 scrambled out of the rest of the shell with a chirp, shaking, then scratching to get the piece off his head. Once free of the egg, he spotted movement--something was dangling down and twitching around attractively off a table, and he stalked carefully over, low to the sands. He almost would have successfully pounced the dangling bandage, but there was suddenly a person in his way! Unable to stop, he found himself colliding hard with the backs of Rhamnus’s legs as the healer moved around the table. Beeping apologetically, the blue backed up and caught the eye of the boy being fixed up. Still feeling bad for getting in the way, he tried to wedge himself under the table till Rhamnus finished working on his chosen--only partially successfully, with his tail forming a tripping hazard.

Out of Egg #31 tumbled the last green of the clutch, lucky little Green 13. She took her sweet time finding her mate, walking along the lines and clusters, making little clicking noises as she searched. Egg #34 split next and revealed a stunning dark blue. Blue 10 was quiet, but determined, looking along the line for his chosen. It wasn’t till he moved that they realized something wasn’t quite right with one of his wings. He was having trouble holding it up and folded away, and the tip dragged on the sands. But he didn’t complain, even as the dragonhealers checked it out after he impressed and rigged up a sling to help him hold it up till they could adapt some strengthening exercises to a baby dragonet.

Egg #7 cracked slowly, revealing a bronze head and neck before the baby had to rest, stuck at an awkward angle for getting out. And the last to crack was Egg #23, with an energetic brown smashing his way out and inadvertently helping his bronze brother, stumbling onto his shell and cracking it further. Hearing the indignant bronze inside, Brown 5 hurried off and hid behind his boy. But Bronze 3 had only been chiding his brother, not about to attack like the other had earlier.

Walking along the line of boys, he regarded them all curiously. One or two of them had touched his shell, and he paused, considering, but no, none of them were quite right. He kept looking, but wasn’t becoming overly distressed, though he could feel the tension in the cavern building the longer it took to find his mate. But then... there he was! Bronze 3 hurried over to his side, then nudged his hand to get his attention. Then nudged it again more firmly and meeped up at him indignantly till finally, his chosen met his eyes.

Technically this was what Rhamnus had wanted, though that didn't mean he had to be happy with it. Others were tending to the body, shame that, such a senseless loss. For now he had a boy that had been knocked over and clawed up a bit sitting on his table while he got him bandaged up. That he could at least focus on, though he did have to initially shoo Ulliendis off to the side. But then there was a crash at the back of his knees, almost sending him buckling to the ground but he caught the table and whirled around to shoot a glare. "Shoo!"

At least it apologized... he thought. Though it was still like dealing with a treacherous toddler who didn't know how quite to stay out of the way. At least the tail was easier to ignore as he finished getting his patient bandaged up. Once he was done he gave the new weyrling a pat on an uninjured part of himself. "Now go on and get your blue out of my way."

He still managed to trip on a tail as the blue finally crawled out from under his table to slink off with his boy. Rham once again caught himself on the table, grumbling before straightening up and getting his station cleaned up. At least it would be over soon, and then he could go take a bath and get cleaned up, then go find T'drin and-

There was a nudge at his hand that he waved off with a grumbling, "Busy." There was another, harder nudge at his hand and he scowled, turning as there was a soft sound. "What?!"

You have helpers to clean that up, Rh'us. Rham, staggered backwards, tripping again but this time tumbling to sit on the sands as he stared at the little bronze. "Wha..." I am hungry and you are very tired. Someone else can clean it up. You can rest now. Now that Hispidath mentioned it, Rham realized he was actually quite exhausted, and maybe he had been keeping himself a bit too busy lately. And he was starving too, and that was a hard thing to ignore even as his head still reeled. "Yes... you're right. Come on then."

He climbed back to his feet, the sturdy bronze moving to give him something to brace himself on, before he turned to point at a drudge. "You, get this cleaned up. And keep my tools together, I'll be back for them."

L’gan felt Semath’s distress bleed through after the two dragonets betweened, but there was no time to dwell on it. He gave Narinoa--he’d have to ask about his honorific later--and the blue a smile as they passed. “I’ll drop by later and say hello; congratulations, Noa.”

He held the arm of one of the other dragonhealers who went to approach blue 10, making sure the dragonet Impressed first. They walked over together, rather than making the blue walk any further with his dragging wing, and inspected him while his chosen fed him carefully. Hopefully it was just a sprain or weak muscle from an awkward position, and they’d be able to come up with a better treatment plan as time went on.

Distracted by all that, he nearly missed the biggest surprise, turning back just in time to see a bronze dragonet nudging Rhamnus’s hand and chirping till it caught his attention. Oh no. Who would tell Master Verec it had happened again? The Masterhealer would be livid. Not even his carefully crafted rules about age limits were infallible it seemed.

Ulliendis felt himself tense as the little blue stalked toward him; or at least his direction. There was still Rhamnus and some kid who also didn't move fast enough and needed some patching up. He may have lost what he was leaning against but he got to enjoy a dragonet head butting a Healer. He laughed, somewhat disappointed when it became obvious the little guy was trying to get to the injured kid and not to him, but it was still fun to watch the whole thing.

He stole his spot back once the new pair left and resumed chatting about random things while he watched everyone around them. He liked to think he was rather skilled at looking carefree while observing everything. You learned a lot of fun things that way.

And then a bronze came over. This one didn't get his hopes up since he didn't believe he had any traits for that dragon or any desire for responsibilities. He chuckled again at Rhamnus getting pestered but then it slowly clicked into place. They were the only two now at the station and bronze boy definitely didn't have any interest in him.

As the Impression was made, Ulliendis sat there somewhat shocked. He honestly hadn't pegged Rhamnus to end up as a dragonrider and not just because he was old. There was something about his demeanor that he felt didn't match most stereotypes, except maybe brown. But he quickly snapped out of the shock to congratulate and tease his friend.

"Congrats, man! Looks like you won't need an immediate replacement now," he laughed and then sighed. "But it looks like I'm in need of a replacement Healer with fascinating skills." That fact became all the more clear when the final two eggs were deemed duds and the Hatching was officially over.

He was still without a dragon but still mostly in one piece so he called that a win. Now he needed to go crawl into the lake and finish getting the sand off while also cooling off.

Mylorah stared when it became obvious Rhamnus was the one who Impressed to the bronze. So much seemed wrong with it. Rhamnus was several years over the age limit but honestly, who came up with that rule and why? Probably had something to do with being young and spry, physically and mentally fit. She knew for a fact he fit all of those and it wasn't like he was old and gray so he could still be a rider for decades to come. But another issue was he was a Healer. Although to be fair, he was one of the Stolen ones as she had memories of him back in Katila, though mostly ones associated with the landslide. And he stayed when they came North so he already belonged to the Weyr and wasn't on loan like L'gan and Eb'zer had been. Still, he was like the fifth Healer in recent years to Impress. Dragons seemed to have a type.

But poor T'drin. Her favourite bronzerider she wasn't related to lost one of his playmates for the rest of the year. She was so proud of him coming out of his shell, sort of, and enjoying himself with anyone he was attracted to. Maybe she could stay one more night and console him before returning to Ista and checking in on R'dare some more.

"Well, always next time," Mylorah smiled at Zelly and Zoremet when the Hatching came to a close and they were still standing. The duds were always difficult to see but she couldn't dwell on them with so many other things going on, both good and bad. For the moment, she wanted to focus on the good, most of which were sitting in the stands.

"Let's head off. I have a sexy lordling to kiss, a master harper to frustrate, and the best boy ever to make smile."

He was right, she knew he was right, but that didn’t stop the angry tears that threatened to fall or the way her mouth contorted into a hard line as she struggled anyway before falling still as the two dragonets vanished between forever and the body of the young man was left lying in the sand, devoid of life. “I could have helped!” M’quel burst out angrily, the tears falling even as she was roughly pulled into a hug and away from the sight. “I could have helped,” she murmured tearful and regretful, but no longer fighting.

Clinging to Orgailian for a few moments, M’quel took a deep breath before stepping back, she pursed her lips, then leaned up on her toes to press a light kiss against Orgailian’s cheek. “Don’t tell Quin,” she half asked, half told him, her lips twisted ruefully. She could only imagine his worry if he knew about the hell that was breaking out on the sands at this hatching, and the memories it would spike in her boyfriend with regards to his own time on the sands, when she wasn’t there. It would be so much better when he was fully graduated and able to attend the Hatchings with her!

“Oh!” M’quel gave Orgailian’s arm a squeeze and then darted past him, fussing under her breath at the latest candidate to join the throng of people that had been attacked while on the sands. Her gaze glanced to the side where she could hear the one healer being harsh with a young woman whose leg was clawed up, and M’quel resisted the urge to shove her way in and take over. He was not a people person, but he was good at his job. Instead, M’quel focused on her latest patient, missing out on the antics taking place on the sands. When she’d finished with the young man, the Hatching was officially over.

M’quel sat back on her heels, then moved to wash her hands in a basin and look about for her friends. She spotted A’tay, and waved, but figured he would probably be more interested in checking in on his girlfriend than her, which kind of sucked, but it was what it was. After a moment, M’quel made her way towards A’tay and his friends; she didn’t know most of them very well, but she also hadn’t seen A’tay in forever and it would be nice to catch up some!

Orgailian rolled his eyes at the kiss to his cheek but he was also smiling. M'quel was far too sweet for her own good and he also knew A'tay was watching their entire interaction without even having to see him. He'd tease his brother about that later as he was distracted about not telling 'Quin', whoever that was. Oh, right, that was her friend's name. "I don't even know him," he replied to her retreating back, slightly bemused at the order-request. He was there when the guy was mauled, Standing not that far from in fact, but Mylorah had to fill him in on the name and who he was and why the mauling was more horrific than a normal one since he had ties to Madiquel.

There weren't a lot of eggs left so Orgailian figured he'd stay where he was and enjoy a new viewpoint. It did give him a chance to watch a couple of hatchlings go bother Rhamnus which was amusing until Orgailian realised the Healer Impressed to the bronze. Well, shit. Maybe he should have gone in on the betting after all and said a Healer would Impress since it was becoming a Thing. Oh well. What did he really need marks for?

When all was said and done, Orgailian glanced at the stands and debated going to see his family. But they had all of their usual extra people and he could see his brothers any time. He was more curious about what Maliah had been up to while he’d been in Benden and headed for the stands to visit with her. It was only after he was halfway there that he recalled Ferra’s injury and that Maliah might want to check in on her sister. That didn’t change his path but it did change the tone of the reunion.

He nodded at Kor’is when he approached but didn’t say anything to the bluerider, focusing solely on Maliah. “Hey. Need someone to show you to the infirmary?”

“Well,” Said N’mor quietly as the last of the Weyrlings wandered off, and the final two eggs were declared duds by Iliyith. “That certainly could have been worse.” It could have gone a lot better, too, but all things considered it wasn’t the worst hatching that he’d ever attended. It was a sad loss for the life of the candidate, and of course the babies that had gone between as a result. But at least their little golden girl had Impressed nicely and made her way off the Sands without any issues. The bronzes would bear watching, and N’mor was aware of one or two other candidates turned Weyrlings who would be causing the Master no few issues.

Well, that wasn’t his to worry about for the time being. He would get the information from the Haprer and write up a report for M’ris. He knew the Weyrleader had watched, but it was always nice to have everything written out for later review, and any of those Weyrlings that had slipped by his notice would be there in ink and parchment for him… when he wasn’t too drunk to read it. N’mor’s lips pursed, and he glanced towards the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman for a moment, before looking back at Helyna.

“Would you like to come with me to meet August’s little lady?” he asked, offering his one and only arm to Helyna even as Rhezalth perked up from where he had been talking to Iliyith about whatever dragons talked about (N’mor tended to ignore such conversations when they weren’t blocked from him). I would like to meet her! and he nudged Iliyith’s cheek to invite her along to meet their daughter, too.
