2023/08/04 Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! She sat bolt upright at the gentle nudge from Mizeath, the gold’s soothing presence in her mind as welcomed as it ever was. “Mizeath?” she called just before the sound of her gold’s humming echoed through the hatching caverns. Ameris threw the covers from her body, wincing just slightly at the pull in her shoulder and immediately started dressing. It was hurried but not rushed, Ameris knew full well that hatchings took far longer than people wanted them too and with a solid 28 eggs to get through it would be fine.

Everything will be fine, the gold murmured to her rider as the woman made her way down the corridor and to the large creature that lay relaxed a short distance from the wiggling and shivering clutch. “Do you think the gold will hatch first?” Ameris asked with a tease in her tone, “That would bring some joy to the weyr.” Mizeath said nothing to the woman, only hummed a little more urgently to her clutch.

Ameris was worried that not enough of the candidates would be able to join them, the night of the touching had brought more sorrow to Benden with the random poisoning of the female candidates. It had resulted in the death of five girls coming to stand for the gold egg and some illnesses in others. One had been a candidate that Fort had finally allowed to stand, enough so that Ameris was certain August would not be standing.

She sighed heavily and leaned against Mizeath’s shoulder before glancing into the stands to see if M’ris had entered yet. She worried for her mate as much as she did the rest of the weyr. Her attention was pulled away when Mizeath’s humming reached a crescendo just before one of the larger eggs suddenly burst outward. The dragonet that spilled forth did so in a flap of goop covered bronze wings and lashed his tail angrily. Bronze01 gave a hissing roar that brought an amused grin to Ameris before the little creature took off towards the group of candidates waiting.

Everyone is welcome to come watch! If you’re only watching, please go directly to the stands, do not linger on the Sands or approach the Candidates. Candidates, you can go right onto the Sands and form up around the eggs and settle in for some waiting. Remember that this is an NPC hatch and none of the PC candidates will be impressing this round. The majority of the dragonets will be available for adoption at the conclusion of the hatching.

Candidates:
*Humming will have started around 2:00am with the hatching officially starting at 3:30am
*Will have been told to wear shoes! Sturdy shoes to save their feet from the heat and standing for so long.
*Be in Candidate robes that more or less fit them.
*Will have hair pulled back in a pony-tail or a braid. In addition, there will be no jewellery, belt, sash, or anything ‘extra’. Don’t want anything to get tugged on and cause an injury.
*Remember that the evening of the touching resulted in the poisoning of the gold candidates and has resulted in the death of several.
*The hatch will be relatively quick and a short list of impressions will be added at the end of each post from me.
*Above all… Have fun!

The humming seemed to vibrate the entire cavern, felt more than heard, and reluctantly, Taydarell woke, the sweet bliss of deep sleep taking its time receding. Emerald cooed at him from where she lay curled on his pillow, eyes whirling as she took up the welcoming hum offered by the dragons to the new clutch. A few seconds passed before he realized what was happening, and with a start, he flung himself from the cot, scrambling into the itchy white robes of candidacy and roughly tugging on his shoes. The eggs were hatching!

Despite these being the best-fitted robes available, he still seemed to swim just a little in the clean fabric. He frowned. He had grown quite a bit since his turn-day, but not quite enough to properly fill the robes out. Oh well. The dragons didn’t care what the robes looked like. They just cared that their person was there, and he was going to be there! He hoped there were enough candidates for all the eggs, especially after what happened after the touching… There were so many eggs, too. There were still a lot of candidates, though, and he hoped all the new babies would Impress.

Hopeful, too, that he might find his lifemate today, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes and dashed down to the dining cavern, downing half a cup of klah as he zipped out the cavern entrance and across the bowl. Before actually crossing into the hatching sands, though, he watched as Kyrionth and T’pel landed up above, alongside Tizalth and Kes, and gave them an enthusiastic wave, smiling when it was returned.

Calling to him from a distance, Zarrie wished him luck, and their firelizards whistled and chittered at each other in excited greeting. He replied a nervous thank you, smiling in anxious anticipation, as she dashed into the stands with her kind-of dad. Sending Emerald to sit with them, he nodded and gulped, the lump in his throat bobbing visibly.

The sands were hot, even through his footwear, and he found a spot between the stands and the eggs where he had a decent view of most of the cavern. The humming got more and more intense as he waited for what seemed like forever, and he felt like his heart might beat right out of his chest. He was certain it was probably loud enough for everyone nearby to hear, at least. All at once, the humming hit its loudest, and one of the bigger eggs shattered, sending a bronze spilling onto the sands! A bronze first was good luck, right? Taydarell hoped so. They’d need it after that awfulness of those gold candidates being poisoned…

He watched, breath held, as the angry hatchling bolted towards the group that stood close by. Wide eyed, he waited, ready to move, closer or away, should the creature change direction with either anger or Impression in his whirling eyes.

Nimuelan made her way onto the Sands cautiously, quiet and subdued given the deaths of the Gold Candidates. It was an appalling start to a Hatching. What would more murders gain whoever was doing the killing anyway? She shook her head, tired of it all, almost tired enough to back out of the whole Hatching but no, she was here and she would Stand. There were dragons to be Impressed, as the humming rattling her bones suggested.

A bronze broke shell first, supposedly good luck, but he was all growl and running at the Candidates. She stood her ground with a soft huff. At least he was a lively one!

Another morning forgoing breakfast. It wasn’t that she had trust issues when it came to food and drink now like some of her fellow Candidates; she was just still a little queasy after ingesting a bit of the poison. Thankfully she hadn’t had too much that night since she had plans with T’drin but Mylorah didn’t want to be rude either. So she lingered and had some of the snacks and a few sips of wine, chatting with some of the other girls before heading out. She had consumed enough to make her sick for the night and with a tender tummy for the following week. She liked soup but she was definitely ready for something else!

That early morning call to prepare for the Hatching wasn’t helping anything either. Mylorah had the usual butterflies of anticipation as she readied herself but she couldn’t stop thinking about the five girls that wouldn’t be Standing alongside her anymore. It was especially hard when she thought about Katiryn. They had been friends since they were little and Katiryn had been the first choice when she convinced Tazikel to experiment and invite another woman to play with them. She sat on the edge of the bed and allowed herself another moment of mourning, rubbing the palms of her hands at her eyes as she did so. A part of her didn’t want to go. What was the point? Impressing would make her a bigger target and there was one less friend now that could join her in the journey.

No. She couldn’t do that. For one thing, she wasn’t the type to run and hide from her fears. For another, she had family and friends Standing and even if she didn’t Impress, she wanted to be there to see when they did. “It’s going to be weird doing this without you, Kat, but let’s go meet some dragons,” Mylorah whispered as she finally got back up and made her way down to the Hatching Grounds.

A small crowd was forming in the stands and Mylorah searched for familiar faces, smiling and waving when she spotted one. She was feeling a bit better now that she was in the hot cavern and with two clutches now on the Sands. If she didn’t Impress this time, she’d stick around for Iliyith’s next month despite how annoying K’dar was being about wanting to keep her close by and safe. She could understand his worry though and that was the only thing saving him from a black eye. The thought had her smiling more as she joined up with a group of friends.

When the first dragonet finally conquered its shell, Mylorah gave a soft gasp and smiled when she saw the bronze hide. Many believed that to be a sign of good luck and that day, she was willing to believe it as well. She had to hope for a good Hatching and a bit of joy in the Weyrs again.

Ever since his decision to focus on dragon healing and to clean up his act, Narinoa found that he was an early riser. It was amazing how much could be done during the early hours—or just in daylight in general. So the Hatching announcement didn’t startle him awake or make him flail around in a panic like many other Candidates were prone to doing despite it still being a few hours before his usual time to rise. Then again, some of the Candidates were probably on their first or second Hatching while he’d been doing it for years.

He joined a few others in the baths since he knew there would be time and a little muscle relaxation before standing around for several hours sounded nice. He chatted with a couple of the guys and gave a helping hand to another that seemed about ready to burst with nervous energy. The man seemed a lot calmer after that and Narinoa promised consolation sex later if neither of them Impressed. That only served to remind the guy that sex wouldn’t happen for months if he did Impress and Narinoa found himself having a pre-Hatching quickie instead.

Once needs were taken care of, Narinoa tossed on the ugly garb and pulled his hair back to keep it out of his face. He stopped by the Healers that had set up their little triage centre when he arrived, letting them know who he was and that he was one of the experienced dragon healers in case there was any emergency. He then joined the growing group of Candidates, placing himself near enough to the Healers but also still allowing himself a good view of the clutch. It was that position that let him see the first dragonet of the clutch and he smiled as the bronze found his mate.

There was only one thing Ulliendis had come across that he hated about the whole Hatching thing; they seemed to happen far too early in the morning or the middle of the night. He was still curled up under a fairly nice blanket in a somewhat comfortable bed—neither of which were his, or temporarily his in the barracks. They belonged to the warm body beside him. The one that had to so rudely wake him up to pass along the message from his dragon that the eggs were wobbling. The pretty face just had to go and ruin a good thing with that news by waking him up. Ulliendis had pouted spectacularly at him but he knew it was his own fault. The Hatching was due at any time and the Candidates had been warned about bed hopping at this point and that they better still get their asses in there on time.

“Next time you wake me up at this disgusting hour, it had better be for something still involving this bed,” Ulliendis pointed out as he started to get up—only to be pulled back down as his latest friend laughed. “Mm, now you’re just being a delicious distraction from duty,” he murmured against an insistent mouth. It truly was tempting to linger but Ulliendis was still new to Hatchings and was in a new Weyr as well so he didn’t want to piss off the Weyrlingmaster or arrive late. He felt like Hatchings weren’t something you arrived fashionably late for.

Still, a few minutes of lingering was okay and Ulliendis grinned when he got his friend riled up and pulled away to toss on clothes. Some of the more experienced had told him to bring his Candidate garments just in case and now he could see the merit in that. Lesson learned if he didn’t Impress this time! He blew the rider a kiss and laughed as a pillow flew by his head before exiting and making his way back to the barracks.

Once there, he cleaned himself up and changed. That’s when he sighed and found there was a second thing he hated about Hatchings. He wasn’t allowed to accessorize. He took off the rings and necklace that were still on from the day before and set them in the case with all the others he owned. “I’ll come back to you soon, I promise,” he told the baubles as he shut the lid and tucked the box back into his travel bag. He stopped by the table filled with fruit, breads, and juice for the Candidates to eat before standing around. He noticed most seemed to run right by, likely too afraid to eat anything for one reason or another but he was hungry and ate a muffin and had a quick glass of water before continuing on.

Inside the Hatching grounds, Ulliendis looked around, taking in the space he’d only seen briefly at the Touching. The biggest difference now was Iliyith had a clutch she was guarding and he made sure to stay as far away from her as possible. It didn’t seem like she was ready to share yet and he could respect that. He instead took up a spot that had a nice view of Mizeath’s clutch and the stands. He casually took in the faces of those already gathering to watch and who they might be there for. He had a feeling Hatchings could be a good place to learn a thing or two about people.

He took a step back when the first to hatch gave his hissing roar. He hadn’t been expecting that! Maybe he needed to focus a bit more on the eggs and less on people after all. With a laugh at how he and a few others around him had reacted to the arrival of the bronze, Ulliendis watched the new pair walk off together.

Orgailian woke with a start as someone shook him awake. He looked around and noticed two odd things. One, it was Zelana that had woken him and two, he was in what passed as Benden Weyr’s library. Shit. He must have fallen asleep when he came in the night before to read. There wasn’t a lot to choose from but he had been bored and hadn’t finished perusing the books from a week earlier when he asked the woman before him if she wanted to join him. But why was she there now?

A quick glance at what she was wearing told him and Orgailian cursed under his breath. “Am I late?” he asked while shoving his own notebook and supplies into his little bag. He had to be late to some degree if she had come looking for him. Then again, Zelana was nice and probably noticed one of her boyfriend’s brothers hadn’t shown up yet so she came to one of the spots he would likely be in when he wasn’t seen in the barracks.

The book that had clearly bored him to death was shoved back on a shelf as Orgailian apologised for making her risk being late herself. They made their way back to the barracks where he waved her off and promised he could dress and find his way on his own. Just because he had been irresponsible in one aspect didn’t mean he was a complete lost cause. Speaking of those, he hoped Zoremet was already there and hadn’t wandered off. There was always a strong chance he was exploring or at least distracted by food or a friend. Actually, it was still dark out so he had probably been sleeping, hopefully in his own bunk.

He’d worry later if he didn’t see his brother on the Sands. As it was, Orgailian quickly readied himself and dashed to the Hatching grounds where he saw most people had already arrived. He spotted Mylorah first and went to stand near her, knowing their Impressed siblings would want them watching each other’s backs more so than usual. He had to admit to being a bit worried as well but Mylorah kept insisting she was fine, both from the poison and loss of a friend. He didn’t fully believe her act but when the first egg hatched, he noticed her smile seemed to be more genuine than it had been when he first arrived.

He was cuddled up with Pie when the humming started, low and shifting into his dream enough that he was confused at the humming of the stones around him. When it deepened and Pie started vibrating with his own little hums, Landen's eyes popped open. "Well shit Pie," he muttered as he scrubbed at his eyes, trying to clear the sleep from them. Why did these little creatures always insist that the middle of the night was the best time to make an appearance? He was grumbling when he jerked the robes on his body and stuffed his feet into hard-soled boots. He was still grumbling when he made his way into the hatching sands, the vibration of several dozen dragons rattling his head and Landen grinned as he found his place.

He wasn't quite sure how long he stood in the semi-circle of boys and young men before the first egg burst open but he was positive it was forever. It wasn't really but Landen could be dramatic if he wanted. A glance at the girls standing around the gold egg reminded him that the touching had ended on a somber note, some of the girls dying from poisoning and some being put down for a while. He wondered if any had fled the idea of dying in Benden or not and made a note to ask around.

A sharp inhalation of breath and Landen's eyes brightened when a gleaming hide of bronze burst out to give a tinny roar before darting around the candidates.

M’ris didn’t want to get up. It didn’t matter that he had fallen asleep on the couch and he was uncomfortable and would have a stiff neck if he tried moving. He had failed to keep kids safe while they were in his Weyr. One of those young ladies was the daughter of a friend. A friend that he had to do the courtesy of telling him in person, not with a letter or through another person. K’tir had taken the news as expected and a week later M’ris’ heart was still breaking for the man. He had lost his vision and now his only daughter. Mosiath insisted Ghaeth was strong and would help K’tir but M’ris still wished his friend didn’t have to cope with the loss he himself was still dealing with.

Eventually he dragged his ass from the couch and went to splash some cold water on his face to help wake and sober him up. He was still drinking but less so if only because the death of the Candidates had shaken him enough to focus on the issue at hand again. His eldest son was also now in the Weyr along with his not-mate F’drel. One of F’drel’s sisters had been poisoned but survived—something to be thankful for. He couldn’t face R’dal if yet another one of his friends had died. He had been close to Katiryn as well.

Despite drinking less, he really wanted to pour himself another glass right then. Too much was piling on him and the pain was resurfacing. But Mosiath’s insistence that they needed to be at the Hatching not only as the Weyrleader but as it was their clutch had him resisting the call. For now. He had to be there for Ameris and for his people who deserved a better leader.

When he made it to the Sands, M’ris stayed off to the side, standing with Mosiath. He didn’t want to interrupt any rituals Ameris and Mizeath had but he gave a smile when his mate did look his way. Despite everything, it was still a good turnout of Candidates, though the number of girls had thinned. He would have to stop by the infirmary later on and see how the ones still there were doing.

The sight of the bronze as the first to break shell shocked him and he chuckled when he felt Mosiath’s pride. They needed that bit of luck, even if it came in a feisty bundle. He patted his dragon’s leg before going over to Ameris to kiss her forehead and murmur praise to their dragons.

Zelana had been wrestling with an odd bout of guilt for not getting poisoned, for being paranoid and wary enough of food she hadn't made or seen made that she had been spared. Maybe she should have said something. Or maybe she should have studied more of those remedies she'd been learning so that she could have actually done something and helped. She'd tried talking to one of the healers, but he had very brusquely told her to stay out of the way, and so she had.

She'd felt so awful about being fine that she hadn't even entertained any of the flirting thrown her way. Instead Zelly had found some good cuddle partners to cozy up to or tried to read more about fancy healer antidotes and every home remedy and wise grandmotherly recipe for some sort of soup or herb mix that worked. Orgailian had at least been helpful with the reading and research.

And speaking of... when word began to spread that the Hatching had begun she'd noticed he was missing. A'tay's other siblings were easy enough to spot. Zoremet was dragging his feet, but seemed to be moving, and when she arrived at the Sands she spotted Mylorah there. But still no Orgailian. Zelly decided to take a risk and dart off to the little library he'd shown her earlier, and managed to find him snoozing there. She brushed off his apology once she woke him, and instead tried to focus on getting them both back to the Sands on time.

Somehow, she still got to the Sands before Zoremet had, and settled in near enough to Mylorah to feel a bit secure, but not so close that she felt like she was intruding. She'd lost one of her close friends after all, and that only made Zelly feel another pang of guilt. She wasn't really sure how long she'd been standing there, lost in her own thoughts, when the first little dragon popped out and gave a tiny little roar. It was enough to make her smile and watch with excitement to see where it would go. Hopefully there could be some real celebrating after all of this.

"I'm awake, I'm awake..." how many times had he said it already? How many more until people would stop asking? But then Pit was nudging his hands and his eyes fluttered open again and he groaned as someone threw candidate robes onto his head. "Fine!"

He didn't even have the luxury of a nice warm body to be snuggled up against, why was he having so much trouble waking up? Still, if there was a Hatching, Zory figured he should get up and get ready. He felt like a bit of a zombie as he made sure to pull on the scratchy and bland robes and get his boots on. The little green firelizard chirped encouragingly, trying to help him stay focused and awake until he was shuffling out the door on the tail end of the last of the other candidates.

At least Zoremet had the good sense to send Pit up and away once he was on the Sands. He found his sister and brother and stifled a yawn as he joined them with a quick nod and sleepy greeting. After several moments of rubbing his eyes he wondered if maybe he was going to somehow fall asleep during the Hatching, but a tiny roar gave him a shot of adrenaline that helped him finally jolt properly awake as he focused on the handsome little bronze and then the rest of the eggs.

A'tay had been in bed several hours when the news came in of the Benden Hatching. Xyxyth eagerly woke him up and A'tay eagerly ignored him, trying to burrow under his pillow to escape the enthusiasm. But after a few minutes and his mind waking up a bit more, the enthusiasm caught him as well. A Hatching! Who cared what time it was, he had to go see his siblings and Zelly! He had seen all of them only days ago after hearing of the latest poisoning. Mylorah had been sick but was doing better than some of the other girls. He knew Katiryn but had never been as close to her as some of his siblings and shared friends but it still hurt to learn of the news and see his sister try to deal with it while pretending she was fine for everyone else.

Zelly also seemed a bit out of it, understandably. She had avoided being poisoned again thanks to Orgailian inviting her to the library. He owed his brother for inadvertently saving Zelana since from what he had heard, another dosing might not be as easily overcome. But this would be a happier event, as strained as it could be with the missing faces. So he couldn't miss it in case any of them Impressed.

He quickly dressed, fought with his hair--there was a definite downside to keeping it so long, and then took his time gearing up Xyxyth. He never rushed that, paying careful attention to the straps being buckled and secured. Once his dancing dragon was ready to go, A'tay put on his own riding gear and headed out with a detour down to see the Weyrwoman. Casa couldn't travel with Thallyath on the Sands and he was certain she would have sent any official word with the Weyrleader or someone else but he wanted to see if she had any notes for their siblings or friends on a more casual level.

Once that task was complete and he left with his face red and hot--why did she have no shame and still wore next to nothing when talking to him?--Xyxyth brought them to Benden Weyr. A'tay found a spot easily enough and spotted Mylorah but no one else. That was a little worrying but Zelly soon arrived with Orgailian a bit after that. Zoremet finally made his appearance looking groggy and ready to make a bed right there beside the eggs. He chuckled to himself at the thought but frowned when he saw Zelly keeping her distance from Mylorah. What was going on there? Did they get into a fight? It seemed unlikely but it had been a tense and bad week so maybe not as unlikely as it normally would be.

He would ask Zelly about it later since in front of so many people wasn't the time. The dragonets didn't seem to think so either when one eventually made his debut and A'tay relaxed a bit at seeing the bronze hide. That was a sign of good luck!

T'ryn grumbled at Syrendryth's light poking at his mind. He didn't want to get up. It felt like he had barely been in bed and surely the twins didn't need him yet? Benden's Hatching is starting. Didn't you say you wanted to go? T'ryn sighed and nodded against his pillow. He did but he didn't expect it to be at such an hour. But that was on him. He should have known the Hatchings were always around now and into the early morning for their starts. It was tempting to stay in bed since he had Cazan curled up with him and the babies were sleeping. Sleep was nice and so rare lately. But Syrendryth had said he would start taking him on trips again and Cazan encouraged him getting out, especially to see his siblings and friends as they Stood.

He carefully tried to extract himself but still woke Cazan enough that he apologised and said he was heading to the Hatching. He kissed her, urged her back to sleep, but also made her promise to send Lady if she needed him. After dressing and gearing up Syrendryth, T'ryn found the bag he had packed the other day that was filled with gifts and letters for Cazan's friends. Since she still couldn't travel on her own until she learned how to between T'ryn always offered to play delivery boy for her.

Once they were landed at Benden, Syrendryth found Rhezalth and joined him while T'ryn spotted N'mor and waved to his friend but went to sit by A'tay. They took some time to catch up before the first egg spilled out its contents. On seeing the bronze, T'ryn laughed and bumped his shoulder against A'tay to lightly tease him since he knew how superstitious he could be. But in this case, T'ryn would take all the luck on offer as well.

Helyna groaned inwardly as she felt Iliyith reach out for her, but she rolled over and yawned before sitting up. Obviously she’d known Mizeath’s hatching was imminent, but why did it have to be so damned early in the morning? She hoped against all odds that Iliyith’s clutch would wait for a more reasonable hour this time. Still, it was exciting, and the Weyr needed a happy event. Getting a sleepy Vondlyn down to the crèche without complaint took longer than she would have liked, since she would be expected to be there early even if the eggs didn’t hatch for hours. She washed up quickly and pulled on one of her nicer dresses before hurrying down to the Hatching caverns.

A decent crowd was already gathering, but she noticed she had still beaten most of the candidates there. Congratulating Ameris and Mizeath through Iliyith, Helyna found a place in the stands. Iliyith had joined the humming filling the cavern, though she hadn’t budged from her place on the far side, curled around her precious gold egg. She noted that her own gold was a bit agitated at the loss of sleep, but controlling it well. The last thing they needed was for either gold to resent sharing the sands when there wasn’t a choice.

The bronze bursting from his shell brought a smile to her lips. Such an energetic baby—and a bronze to boot—was surely a good omen. Hopefully it would continue that way.

He grumbled darkly as the humming started in the middle of the night, Butterball chattering with just as much indignation as her bonded felt, the fat little gold mantling her wings as Madelan shoved out of his cot. He growled as he slipped his robes onto his body and stuffed his feet into boots. Madelan made sure he looked as well as he could with the dark circles beneath his eyes as he glanced back at the empty cots that gold candidates used to occupy. A lot of death had rained down on Benden lately and Madelan wasn't sure what he felt about it.

He grimaced at the heat of the sands as he entered and made his way towards the eggs. He ignored more of the other candidates, though he did look frankly at one of the boys who stood close to him. He watched with keen interest as the other young man blushed hotly, a smirk growing on his harsh mouth before his attention was brought back to the eggs preparing to hatch. He stood pin-straight as a bronze burst his shell first, a pleased look on his face as his hazel eyes tracked the creature as it gave a tinny roar before moving to the candidates.

The bronze was followed swiftly by another egg shattering, a darkly marked blue making his own appearance. Blue01 blinked sleepily at the people surrounding him, squeaking quietly as he realized everyone was staring and hid his head beneath his wing just as an egg next to him split to reveal the rear end of a green. Green01 wiggled wildly, her rather large and rotund shape stuck inside her shell before her rage got the better of her and she punched sharply to free herself. Her pride was evident as she sat blinking in the brightness before standing and shaking a foot to rid herself of the excess egg goo that was hanging off her toe.

She huffed at her brother, smacking him lightly with her tail as she passed him and earned herself an annoyed squawk from her blue brother. Nose in the air, Green01 wasted no more time as she walked unerringly towards the group of boys. The crowd could hear a sharp exclamation from the boy she chose, his friends shoving him forward where he dropped to his feet in front of her for a quick hug before leading her away.

The blue didn't seem bothered by the entire process, his snout a little tender from her smack but that was okay. He could take his time, it would be fine and the little blue started to groom his toes while two more eggs shattered to reveal two more greens that were near identical. Green02 and Green03 chittered at each other before moving away to sniff and snuffle around the boys while the bronze moved through the boy.

He picked up his pace, knocking a hopeful Madelan off his feet with a slam of his wing, and careened through the boys next to him. Just before the bronze could make his choice, or was it at exactly the same time?, the third green, Green03 gave a triumphant shriek as she ran to a boy with tears in his eyes. The bronze's roar was annoyed by his sister reaching hers first though no doubt, Bronze01 made a much better choice.

The little dark blue finally finished cleaning his toes and heaved himself to his feet to walk with purposeful stomps towards the boys. He sniffed lightly at Madelan's feet where the candidate struggled to his feet with his own annoyed sniff. The boy who was his other half ran towards him and Blue01 bounced with glee as they moved off to the feeding buckets.

Madelan brushed the sand from his robes angrily just as an egg near him popped its top to reveal yet another green. Green04 peered at the crowd before stretching to crack the rest of her shell from her body before preening before the crowd. She was going to be a show boat without a doubt as she performed for her audience with little bounces and leaps before darting with a happy chirp at the boy who was running towards her.

Madelan sighed as his shoulders dropped as boys impressed all around him. He truly was going to be a failure, wasn't he? he thought to himself as Green02 continued her search.

Mylorah loved and hated when so much happened on the Sands. It was thrilling to be caught up in the excitement of dragonets finding their mates and enjoying their antics but it was also hard to track them all. That was how injuries could happen and she did her best to keep track of any dragonets on the move.

Luckily, it seemed all the hatchlings thus far weren't interested in her little section but that didn't mean she could relax her guard. If anything, it went up further when she caught sight of someone on the ground. She missed what had happened, only saw someone in need. Despite not being close by, Mylorah was about to head over to help when the boy sat up and she saw it was Madelan. He could handle himself and knew he wouldn't thank her for any form of assistance. He was interesting but cunning and there was something about him that had yet to let her fully trust him. But despite that and how proud he could appear to be, her heart still broke a bit when she saw the change in demeanor when another dragonet passed him by.

She only experienced that a few times in all of her times Standing and that was usually due to standing with her male friends. Dragonets didn't come too close to females that often so she could only imagine how hard it was to have hopes raised and then dashed in a matter of seconds and regularly.

Maybe she would give Madelan a silent hug after the Hatching if he was left Standing. For now, she reached out to her brothers on either side of her and took their hands, giving a light squeeze.

Another clutch of excitable and adorable baby dragons! Ulliendis was charmed by each one that appeared, trying and usually failing to keep from cooing and awwing at them. They were too cute! He didn't even mind that none of them wanted him so far since they were putting on a good show. He hadn't even decided on a colour he would want and smiled as any colour bounced by him.

When the bronze came barreling his way, however, Ulliendis lost his smile for a moment and jumped to the side. He winced as a couple people ended up on the ground either from the dragonet or their own two feet as they clamoured away before offering a hand to the nearest. Madelan seemed fine but this boy seemed younger and the sort to fear his own shadow. "Good reflexes!" Ulliendis praised as he hefted the kid back up. "Don't worry about the landing part. The important part was dodging out of the way and you succeeded." He patted the boy on the shoulder and went back to enjoying the show.

Despite the envy that sometimes crept up on him while he watched more and more people walk off with a dragon mate, Orgailian found it fascinating to watch it happen. Sometimes he could see the exact moment the bond was made, the human's eyes growing wide or perhaps starting to cry. His favourite reaction was a toss up between dropping to knees to hug the dragonet and annoyance at how messy the dragonet was. The sigh and halfhearted attempt to wipe sand off a snout was pretty amusing.

He also wondered about the ones that seemed to take a long time finding their mate. They were taught dragons needed the human mind to anchor them but how long could they last fresh from the shell? Maybe their minds had an immediate connection but the human wasn't aware until a pudgy dragonet was at their feet staring at them or calling their name across the grounds. He thought about that when a blue took his time and then a green a bit later on. He tried to look inward but didn't notice anything different so Orgailian doubted he was the intended for the green.

When someone took his hand, Orgailian startled and looked down at it and then up to his sister. Was she okay? She'd had a rough week to put it mildly and maybe she shouldn't be Standing or standing. Then again, Mylorah could be the sentimental sort and something had triggered her need to be close to her brothers. Orgailian looked passed her at Zoremet and gave a small shrug when their gazes met.

Wait. Was she the green's mate? He eyed her again, trying to see what was going on with her. No way the green was for her. If he was going to be a colourist, Mylorah would be a goldrider or maybe a bluerider. She was badass enough for either. Did hoping she didn't Impress a green make him a good or bad brother?

Green02 chittered and chattered her way through the boys, turning her nose up when one tried to touch her before taking a swipe at another. How dare they try to do such a thing?! She gave a small little roar and slapped another with her tail before flouncing off towards the girls. As she did so one of the medium-sized eggs closer to Mizeath than anyone else shattered with a loud pop to dump a pale brown onto the sands. The brown was a delight to look at, pale as the hatching sands that he lay on but laced with a brown that was the dark of hardwood.

Brown01 blinked at his huge mother, chirping with a greeting that Mizeath answered with a low rumble. The little fellow leaped to his feet, bent on looking for that boy who'd touched his egg. It didn't take him long before the boy in question cried with joy and tears. Green02 finally ambled her way into the girls, knocking one and then another to the side before her eyes shifted into the rainbows of impression.

Ameris glanced at M'ris before watching the reactions of the others gathered around. They'd become used to girls impressing now but sometimes there were still grumbles of discontent. They didn't disappoint and Ameris glared at the closest of the loudmouths. She wondered briefly if she could get away with throwing her shoe at someone. An impressed dragonet was better than a betweened dragonet in her opinion and she didn't care if it was a girl, boy, or a fucking tunnelsnake.

Mizeath shifted closer to her rider just as three eggs burst simultaneously to reveal three more blues. Mizeath was pleased so far with the clutch she'd laid though the gold was waiting for that precious daughter to make her appearance. The blues wasted no time in finding their boys, it seemed to be two best friends and a stranger, though if the blues had some say the trio would be best friends by the time their weyrlinghood was finished.

Two more greens made a spectacular entrance. The first popping a single leg through her shell before three more, the shell itself still wrapped around her body so that it looked like an egg with legs running around. She managed to knock into another egg, running over the top to destroy that shell and reveal her dark green sister. This sister was rather annoyed with the other, taking a swing at the running egg and connecting. Green05 gave a satisfied huff when Green06 was knocked out of her shell with a thump.

Ameris couldn't quite stop the chuckle that erupted from her throat and she almost felt guilty for the joy before a gentle touch from Mizeath told her it was okay to be happy. The pair of greens made quick work of impression while two more blues and another brown peered at the crowd with curiosity. The blues went to separate sides of the cluster of boys to find their boys while Brown02 went straight down the middle to shove a large and rather burly boy out of his way and impress the slender boy standing behind him.

"Everything seems to be okay so far," the goldrider murmured to the gold with a tone that was hopeful for the future.

Chaos! At least it was the good sort of chaos though, at least so far. Zoremet tried to keep an eye on the different baby dragons and all their antics, but it was hard. Had he bumped into the green's tail or had she just whapped him on purpose? It was hard to tell, but at least he hadn't been swiped with claws or bitten. That and he'd stayed on his feet. Sure he'd wobbled a little, but he at least hadn't fallen down.

He did try to keep an eye on the green that had bapped him, and noticed she was still pushy even as she shoved her way into a group of girls. At least she found someone though! Maybe with a mate she'd calm down and be a little bit more polite. Hopefully no one made fun of her for picking a girl, or made fun of the girl for that matter.

It was another green baby that caught Zory's attention after that, or rather a set of green legs. He laughed, hiding it behind his hand to try and be polite as he watched the still mostly egg bound baby running around. It was moments like this that he thought maybe he wanted to Impress sooner rather than later. Maybe this would be it. Who knew!

Ulliendis raised a brow at the fuss being made over the sassy green Impressing to a girl. Weren’t Weyrs typically a bit more accepting of such things? Maybe the ones grumbling the most were formerly Holders; they always did have a strange sense of things. He supposed he was technically a Holder but he’d spent so much of his life in the Harper Hall that Ulliendis felt he was a different breed from the rest. Harpers seemed more willing to go with the flow and accept abnormalities than others after all. Oh! Maybe this was another one of those Weyr superstitions he was still learning about. Or maybe the girl wasn’t well-liked. He watched her walk off with her lifemate and wondered a bit more about who she was.

He missed the commotion of the blues bursting free as he pondered that girl but the reactions of those around him had Ulliendis looking back at the clutch to see the three little blues moving as a pack toward his general vicinity. He wasn’t sure what he was feeling in that moment. There was some hope and nerves at perhaps this being his moment but also some fear as it wasn’t every day three unbonded hatchlings galloped towards him.

He would never truly find out what it was like as they ended up going to a cluster of boys just to the side of him. Ulliendis gave a long sigh of relief, realising it was more fear than anything else driving him in that moment. He was still analysing how deep that fear went and if it was associated with Impressing that he didn’t really pay much attention to the walking egg. He gave a chuckle when he did spot it and tried to pay more attention to the events. What if another group came charging at him again and he didn’t notice in time?

He really wasn’t an early morning person and it was showing in that moment. Where was his focus and attention span?

Orgailian went wide-eyed as the feisty green zipped by them. He had a brief moment of fear that Mylorah really was about to Impress a green and then that fear transferred to his brother as Zoremet was bopped by the tail. His brother kept his balance, showing off some of his gracefulness most didn’t know he possessed, and more importantly, kept from dragging them all down with him if he fell. He gave Zoremet a smile and nod of approval at the display and shifted to see the green had finally found her mate with a girl. Good for them. And it wasn’t someone he knew which was even better. He didn’t want to have to deal with that sassy dragon if he didn’t have to.

He watched the chaos that ensued as little bursts of eggs hatched around the same time. The trio of blues were adorable in their single-mindedness and Orgailian had a moment of envy as he saw a pair of brothers Impress together. All of his Impressed siblings had found their mates in different clutches. No, that wasn’t true. T’ryn and Casa were from the same clutch but no one was aware of the relation at the time so it didn’t count. Orgailian wouldn’t mind if he Impressed alongside Zoremet—even if that meant he’d sometimes he keeping an eye on him. Then again, he supposed a lot of weyrlinghood was spent focused on the dragon so who he Impressed with didn’t quite matter. But it would be nice.

When the brown emerged and seemed to be fuelled by motivation, Orgailian shook his hand free of Mylorah’s so he could shuffle a few steps to the side so he could have a clearer view of where the brown was headed. He winced as the larger Candidate was shoved aside and chuckled at the Impression to the scrawny kid. That was going to be an interesting pair, no doubt about it. Orgailian hoped they would balance one another nicely but he didn’t know the boy to even begin assuming the scrawny frame meant a meek personality or not.

Narinoa swore the scar on his leg throbbed in warning when the brown came barrelling in his direction. He’d been a bit on edge since the trio of blues went rushing toward a group of boys. He hadn’t been near them but it didn’t matter as memories of not moving fast enough the last time plagued him. He’d been lucky to only get a large gash in his leg and nothing more but it had certainly been an eye-opener to how callous he kind of was at every Hatching previous to that.

Now, he was on alert both for the safety of himself and those around him, but also for any injured dragonet. So far it had been a mild Hatching but when that brown came towards him, Narinoa felt the self-preservation kick in and everything else was forgotten as he quickly jumped to the side. He had some guilt when he saw the larger Candidate he’d been standing near on the ground and he went over to help him up—after ensuring the hatchling had Impressed and wasn’t a danger anymore.

Once the guy was back on his feet and seemed only embarrassed and not injured, Narinoa crouched down, pretending to fiddle with his boot. He was actually rubbing his hand over the scar, hoping it would help calm the nerves in the area as well as the mental ones. Hatchings could be beautiful things but they were also dangerous and kept the blood pressure high. Standing once more, he felt a bit more centred but his gaze kept going to the gold egg. Was she waiting for a dramatic and late entrance? He hoped so. The loss of five Candidates made him worry a bit about one of them being meant for this dragon. Not to mention the gold population seemed to be nearly half of what it was just months ago.

He watched the hatching with great interest after he climbed to his feet from being knocked over. He was still grumbling beneath his breath, a little bit of acid in his tone as hazel eyes glared briefly at the bronze who had shoved him. So many hatchlings were making their appearance now and finding their bondeds, leaving Madelan even more certain that he was going to fail at this like he did much of his life. He sighed and ground his teeth together as more eggs shattered all around him. A second brown cracked egg near him causing him to back up as the smaller than average creature lost his footing once or twice before finding his bonded in a boy across the sands.

A resounding crack brought Madelan's attention towards a small grouping of eggs to see another bronze make his appearance to be followed by another brown. The candidate's shoulders straightened, his mind bringing back all of his confidence as he watched the regal-looking bronze standing as if surveying his kingdom. Bronze02 was solid, already showing the clean lines and size that he would grow into as he walked sedately towards the group of candidates. Brown03 huffed at the ridiculousness that he thought was his brother before flouncing behind the bronze. The little brown would stop suddenly, almost so fast that he took a tumble, and peered at an ecstatic young fellow.

Madelan grinned slightly at the arrogance that was plainly seen in the bronze as two more blues broke shell before flailing wildly through the girls. He shook his head as a few hopefuls reached out to be swatted away and ignored. The blues found their boys in short order. Three green burst from the shells, running amuck to barrel through the already abused girls. Two found theirs quickly while the last decided that she needed to sniff and snuffle every single boy before hers stepped out with a roll of his eyes.

A murmured broke out as the gold egg finally started wiggling and waggling, the occupant clearly ready to come out. It still amazed Madelan that she had waited so long and he watched with hooded eyes as Mizeath moved a bit of sand away from the shell. The dragonet that emerged from the shell was serene, delicate, and tiny with a hide of gold so pale she almost looked white. Madelan sucked in his breath quickly, wondering if there was a fault in her but no. He could clearly see the patches of a buttery gold that matched Mizeath's hide slipping in and out of the gold's paleness.

She was quite stunning to look at and Madelan knew she was absolute perfection even from where he stood with the boys. A frown grew between his eyebrows as first Mizeath and then Ameris shifted towards Gold01 to steer her towards the girls. She seemed reluctant, almost hesitant before she went, feet making a detour around the group of boys with unsure steps. What was wrong with her? Was she sick?

As she circled the boys and finally the girls, over and over Madelan's confusion grew as the gold's panic started leaking out and she started to shrieked. She had been there, the little gold shrieked, she had touched her shell and they had spoken and now she was gone. What had happened? She had been so special and so nice and now she wasn't there! Was she not good enough for the girl who'd talked to her? The gold grew increasingly panicked and began to charge through the girls, tossing them aside as she searched for that mind who had been there and no longer was.

Madelan's head began to ache with her shrieks and cries, squinting his eyes before they widened with a gasp. In her panic the gold barreled into a curious bronze, the pair tumbling end over end over end as their talons flashed for purchase. Their screeches of anger and pain echoed through the weyr as they fought to separate themselves and failing. A low keening came from Mizeath as the pair finally stopped their tumble, both bleeding profusely from different points of their bodies before blinking between together.

Madelan tried to ignore the prickle of tears in the back of his eyes at the absolute waste of the two dragonets. His sadness was forgotten as another blue hatched into the subdued world. That couldn't bode well for the fellow as he made his entrance after the spectacular exits of his siblings. Blue09 squeaked at the heaviness of the world before slinking off to find his boy in a sea of faces. Another green cracked shell, revealing a mossy-colored hide broken up with green the color of new growth. She took a swipe at the shell next to her, a little annoyed when the wriggling of it had bumped into her and her aim was good enough to give her green sister some assistance.

Green11 scolded the other green in a barrage of chitters and chirps before stomp off. Green10 would not be outdone and she bounced to her feet so fast she tripped over her own wings before finally finding her feet. She took off quick as a bolt of lightning, swerving through legs before slamming into a slender boy hard enough to send him tumbling. She crooned softly to him as her eyes lit up with impression.

Green11 followed suit quickly finding her own bonded and not realizing that another green with a blue had cracked shell. They were the last of the eggs, there would be no duds for Mizeath's clutch this time even if it had its own share of tragedy. Madelan waited on his toes as the blue and the green searched through the boys, moving this way and that as they came to a stop in front of two almost simultaneously.

The candidate's hazel eyes moved up to find Ameris stroking Mizeath's shoulder lightly as the gold blew air softly out of her nose. There were tears on the weyrwoman's eyes as she turned away from the hatching sand to start preparations for the hatching celebration. Madelan wondered how fun it would be with the pall of a betweened gold and bronze hanging over it. He didn't envy the blue who'd hatched right on the heels of it. The candidate shrugged his shoulders lightly before turning away with the rest.

Now it was time for him to drink himself stupid.

That concludes it!

OOCly I want to pretend the gold was meant for Katiryn lmao The gold also probably did some damage to the girls she was shoving around. Anyone is welcome to claim the actions as well as decide the severity.

Why did it all have to go so wrong? She had been enjoying the Hatching only minutes before, smiling or giggling at the antics of the hatchlings and the way they Impressed. But now the gold was out and while it should have been a joyous moment and perhaps even one filled with hope and giving her nervous butterflies in her stomach, it was a nightmare. The sweet little girl was beautiful and seemed utterly perfect. Any girl would be lucky to bond with her but there was only one that was meant to be with her and... she wasn't there.

Mylorah clutched at her head, trying to block out the screeching though just as much was directly in her head. Her heart was breaking with every cry and tears started to fall as it all fell into place. "She's looking for Kat," Mylorah whispered, choking on her friend's name. Four other women had also died but she knew. She knew this was the dragon her friend had been destined to meet and live a wonderfully fabulous life with as they teased all the bronze boys out there. Katiryn had so many dreams and goals and for all that she came across as ditzy or shallow, she was also determined. Mylorah never doubted Katiryn would end up as a goldrider with the man she wanted at her side.

When the little gold got into a fight with the bronze, Mylorah gasped and her hands moved to cover her mouth. Everything was going horribly wrong! She cried out when the pair of hatchlings finally vanished, sealing their fate and making it known without a doubt that the gold's intended mate wasn't among them. The silence that followed was broken only by some sobbing, some of it her own.

She quickly turned and threw her arms around Zoremet, burying her face into the crook of his neck. She held on tight, needing her brother's comforting touch to help keep her upright and perhaps attempt to steady herself once more. Mylorah could only silently sob into the ugly robe as she thought about how perfect that pair would have been together. She tried once to say that but the words wouldn't come out and she continued to hold her brother even after the tears stopped and she turned her head just enough to see what the commotion was about with the remaining eggs.

Mylorah did her best to smile and watch the remaining Impressions and her heart went out to each of them that Impressed after such a sight but she couldn't help but feel relieved when she and her brothers were left alone after it was all said and done. It was awful of her but she couldn't imagine being a part of the clutch that was supposed to have a gold that couldn't find her rider and took a bronze out with her. Constant memories of Katiryn were already haunting her and she wouldn't be able to handle knowing her friend should have been there beside her on that journey.

"Let's go see our bronzely brothers for a minute and then I think I need to go lie down for a while."

Despite the losses and hardships, M'ris found he couldn't help but smile at the antics of the hatchlings. They were always so unpredictable but so full of life and energy. It was easy to forget his worries and pain for a little while as each new adorale face emerged and put on a show. The ones that always darted right to their mate made him think of his Mosiath and their own Impression. I knew what I wanted. No point in dithering about. M'ris chuckled at his dragon and the fact that he could feel Mosiath's amusement every time one of the hatchlings frolicked about before getting to their mate.

Then the star of the show finally decided to make her debut. M'ris felt a bit bad for thinking of the gold dragons like that since it took away from the rest of the clutch. But not since the early years of Katila had the golds been so important. He couldn't deny that they always would be as they were the only ones that could produce eggs but with so many being murdered recently, to see another little gold romping around the Sands was what everyone needed. He didn't even mind that one of the Fort girls might Impress her and take her back to Fort Weyr upon graduating. R'nya had his gold Candidates trained in healing and wanted them back and M'ris was willing to let that happen because another gold in any Weyr was better than what they currently had.

But of course they weren't allowed to have that moment of joy. He somehow knew before the screeching truly began what was happening. The sweet baby gold couldn't find her mate. She was rushing around, frantically searching for her girl while tossing other girls around. She was looking for one of the five dead, wasn't she? A few that survived were still too weak to Stand and one of them could be meant for her but M'ris always believed that being within the Weyr was still close enough for a healthy dragonet to connect minds with.

And then the fight broke out. If it had been between humans, M'ris would have had no problem storming over there and knocking some heads around himself as he dragged the idiots apart but it was the gold with a bronze and not even Mosiath's growling seemed to deter them. After a point it seemed less like fighting and simply trying to get away but it didn't matter when they both went between. The stunned silence would have been comical if it wasn't caused by such a disaster. "Fuck," he whispered under his breath before a louder one followed. "Fuck!" He turned to Mosiath and slammed a fist against his dragon's side, knowing the giant beast would barely feel it and understand the cause of it. Mosiath gave his shoulder a nudge, a gentle nuzzling of reassurance before joining in the soft keening the dragons had taken up to mourn the loss of two of their own.

Did the bronze Impress? Do any of the boys seem out of sorts? The Impression would only be a few minutes at most but M'ris wasn't an expert and had no idea if gaining and then losing that bond so quickly would devastate a mind as much as one who had been with their dragon for years. It doesn't appear so. We will keep an eye on them. M'ris didn't need to ask to know that the 'we' in question would involve at least Rhezalth and perhaps one or two more to be trusted with such a task.

The Hatching continued, naturally. The remaining dragonets didn't know about the tragedy and wouldn't see a need to sit and wait even if they were able to. His heart went out to the blue that came after the loss of two as his arrival wasn't met with the usual excitement. M'ris made a note with Mosiath to make sure they greeted that pair and showed them a little extra attention to ensure they were okay and that the hatchling knew he wasn't at fault for the mood.

By the end of it all, M'ris was exhausted. No duds, he supposed he could be thankful for that but the loss of the gold and bronze was felt and it only served to remind him of the loss of humans--from the gold Candidates to residents of his Weyr to his son. He desperately needed a drink but without even looking into the crowd, he knew his eldest son would be watching him with his puppy eyes. R'dal had too much faith in him; in everyone. That kid was going to have his heart broken one day when the reality of the world finally penetrated his sweet outlook on everything. He still needed a drink but it could wait. It had to wait. He needed to check in on the new class, send out some letters, and ensure a proper gathering happened that night to celebrate what they had. There would be time for drinking later that night.

What... what had just happened? One moment Zoremet had been smiling at the antics of the babies, hopeful and excited, and then... then he was holding his sister as tightly as he could, whispering soft reassurances that he was sure was just as much for him as they were for her. "It'll be alright... It... I'm here. We're all here."

They were alright at least, no one had gotten caught up in the fight, there had been no claws, no mangling, nothing serious to the candidates on the Sands. It felt horribly selfish to think of that as a positive, especially after the deaths of those girls. He gave Mylo another squeeze and softly muttered, "I'm sorry. I don't know what else to do. We'll see A'tay and T'ryn and then... yeah. Maybe a nap. Want some cuddles?"

Maybe cuddles would help, and even if she didn't want them, Zory knew he wanted some. Once things had settled down he was going to find a nice cozy bed with a nice comfortably toasty body to share it with. Because it was either that or go hiking and with all that had happened he didn't exactly feel safe trying to go anywhere on his own.

Ulliendis was surprised when the gold and bronze started fighting and then shocked when they vanished between and didn’t return. Everyone else seemed just as stunned by it before the dragons started their mourning ritual. That was a noise he was used to hearing regularly with all of the deaths happening but it was still unsettling yet beautiful in an odd way. He could appreciate the beauty in the tragedy and gazed up at the dragons surrounding the area and paying their respects to those lost.

However, he kept his mouth closed when he looked around to those near him. They wouldn’t see the beauty and they wouldn’t understand his comment about how the death of the hatchlings meant two less to die later on. It was almost a mercy since no humans had to be involved in the removal of those two shiny hides. It was his understanding that the majority that Stood were weyrbred but the ones that were Searched often took the chance so they could leave a terrible situation more than they cared about bonding with a giant beast.

The mood of the Hatching changed after that event. There was still some excitement in the air with each Impression but it was more subdued, no doubt everyone still thinking about the lost hatchlings. By the end of it all, only two were lost and the others had found their mates. None had gone to him but that was fine. He was still new to the whole Candidate thing and still had too much to learn and do around the Weyr before raising a dragon of his own.

He glanced around at Candidates slowly leaving the Sands and then the crowd that had been watching. He saw some familiar faces but none that would help service his needs right then. He supposed he could go back to that dragonrider’s weyr but since he currently remember the man’s name, it was probably best he didn’t. But a good fuck seemed to be in order to help him unwind from the Hatching and get his head screwed back on so he could continue with his tasks.

His eye landed on a woman he knew would be down for such things but she was with friends and looked miserable. No doubt she would appreciate the distraction as well but the tears made it a turn off. Finally, Ulliendis just sauntered up to someone that was attractive and draped his arm over their shoulders and gave a large grin. “I’m looking to do some morning drinking and then put on a wild show in my centrally located cot with some hot sex and you seem like the sort to be interested in that.”
