Ista Isle is amused by the weaklings of Benden, but at least their heat is dry. Benden is muggy and riddled with heavy thunderstorms and downpours.

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

Cazelarias slunk down the back corridor, usually only used by the kitchen workers, and slipped into the kitchen. He’d woken up late, rolled out of bed, and realised it was after lunchtime when he peeked outside at the sun. It was too bright to hang around for long, and the young man had slunk back into the halls, and then back into his own weyr. It was small, and didn’t have a ledge – as he didn’t have a dragon – and he’d found he was mostly left alone in it. It was too small for socialising and he didn’t feel like hosting, anyway.

Hearing a greeting, Cazelarias looked up and offered a half-hearted wave to the elderly woman that smiled at him, and then made his way around the kitchen, being sure to stay out of the way of the workers as he collected some food for his breakfast-lunch. Once he had more than he was going to eat, Cazelarias slipped around the outskirts and into the back corner, where he was out of the way and could eat his food without being bothered. He ate in silence, half the time staring sightlessly down at his food, and occasionally glancing up to watch the kitchen workers move around.

When he’d finished, Cazelarias slipped his leftovers into the scrap bin, and dropped his plate on the wash pile, slipping out again and managing to dodge the elderly grandma that kept trying to adopt him. He slunk back down the back corridors, managing to avoid the majority of the Weyr until the last few halls before his personal weyr. Slipping out into the main corridor, Cazelarias sighed to himself, and skulked towards his hall, head drooped and gaze more on his own feet than what was ahead of him. Which didn’t help when he bumped into the body of someone else, grunted, tripped over his own feet, and landed heavily on his rump.

Cazelarias gasped; his wrists stung from breaking his fall and his arse hurt from being landed on. The toes on one foot were stinging from where he’d stepped on himself. He drew in to himself, attempting to vanish, so that whomever he’d run into would step around him and continue on down the hall without comment, while Cazelarias brushed aside the tears that were on his cheek, trying not to actually sob as he broke down and cried silently.

Zeianth had dropped him off in the Lower Bowl before taking off to visit with friends. They didn’t stop into Telgar Weyr regularly so when they did, it was a treat for the dragon and he made the most of it. That, however, left D’hys to wander the halls like a mundane weyrfolk. At least he enjoyed the exercise it brought about with having to hike around so many tunnels and stairs, especially when he had multiple stops planned.

That day was no different as he moved from one weyr to the next, mostly on official business for R’nya as he sought out information for the murders and attacks through his own methods. So far, most of his contacts knew about as much as anyone else; nothing. There were rumours but one greenrider had a lead that interested D’hys enough to track it down himself before moving on to his next stop later that afternoon.

He was hurrying through the hall, for once more caught up in his thoughts than his surroundings and collided with something. Or someone, it seemed as that person bounced off of him and curled in on themselves on the ground. His stride broke long enough to do a double take at the person as he thought he had knocked over the pregnant goldrider but another few seconds showed it was her useless brother. Pitiful.

D’hys didn’t bother stopping as he had more pressing things to do than to coddle some holder boy that only seemed good at crying and having panic attacks.

V’lia wasn’t far behind D’hys as she strolled down the hall. She always hated following someone too closely and knew enough about the bluerider via gossip to believe he was dangerous enough to deserve that space even more. So she stayed several lengths behind him but still saw and heard the collision that didn’t even seem to faze D’hys in the slightest. She frowned when he didn’t seem to say anything and kept on walking away from the scene but she jogged up to the man on the ground and crouched down before him.

“Are you okay? I wouldn’t know in either case but running into D’hys seems like it would be as enjoyable as running into a stone wall.” Once, she may have enjoyed fantasising about that bluerider holding her to his rather perfect body but she had A’dis and he outshone D’hys in every way. He was also still recovering from the poisonous muffin and she hated being away from him for too long but her sexy bronzerider needed some alone time even if he wouldn’t say it. V’lia knew she was probably smothering him by now and mentioned she wanted to bring her latest handcrafted doll to the crèche and then fill up some of their stock from the store rooms. She had yet to do either task but they weren’t important now that she found someone in need.

Cazelarias didn’t look up from where he ended up on the floor, just watched tearily as the shoes of the man before him barely even paused before marching on. That hurt, but it was what he had ultimately wanted, so Cazelarias didn’t say anything and instead tilted his head slightly to make sure the walking wall wasn’t coming back, and then skuttled backwards himself so he could curl up against the actual wall, pulling his knees up to his chest and wrapping his arms around them, he buried his face. He could have stayed like that indefinitely, but suddenly there was someone crouching near him, and speaking to him. Cazelarias bit his bottom lip and cursed his luck.

Sniffling quietly, Cazelarias bit back the urge to be sarcastic and lash out, and instead shrugged one shoulder before lifting his head just a little so he could speak into the gap it created, instead of directly into the void of space between his knees and his torso. “I’m fine,” he said softly, voice barely above a whisper, and sniffled again. Why couldn’t she just leave him alone? He knew he shouldn’t have left his room, no matter how faint from hunger he had been, he hadn’t been hungry but he’d fed himself, and spent so much time dodging the kitchen workers he’d forgotten to dodge the man he ran into – D’hys, did she say? – and now he wasn’t capable of dodging this woman, either.

Exasperated anger was curling through Cazelarias’ veins as he rubbed at his face to rid it of the tears; it did get rid of them, but it made his features even more blotchy and irritated, standing out starkly against his otherwise pale skin from spending too much time locked away hiding from everyone and the sun. “I just want to be left alone,” he grumbled out, eyes darting away from the pretty redhead to look out the side, staring irritably off and downwards at the floor but not seeing it. He did want to be left alone, but Cazelarias was also keenly aware of how lonely he was; he missed his sister and having her to himself. He missed the library he’d been able to lose himself in while Cazan was at his lessons. He missed everything his life used to be, before Cazan ruined it all by running away to the Weyr. By getting pregnant. By mating a dragonrider. By getting married. By leaving him behind, and alone.

Cazelarias clenched his teeth, attempting to prevent himself from crying once more, but his eyes were bright with unshed tears that were threatening to fall. He continued to avoid looking at V’lia, glaring off to the side at the floor.

Oh dear. V'lia couldn't be sure but it seemed like there was a lot more going on with the man than just getting knocked over. It was tempting to follow his grumbling, to get up, walk away, and leave him alone as requested but what type of person would that make her? She'd be no better than D'hys and the way he barely even acknowledged the existence of the man trying to fold himself into the floor and wall. She had never been the type to leave alone someone in need and it wasn't going to start now either.

Twisting around, V'lia plunked herself down beside the man, straightening her legs out in front of her and arranging her dress so it sat prettily and covered what it should. Her basket had been set down on her free side and her hands now folded in her lap as she smiled at her new companion. "No, I think I'll stay a bit. This seems like a nice stretch of hall for making friends. I'm V'lia or you can call me Vess, most of my friends do." It was odd having an honorific and while it was pretty, she was still accustomed to her old name and had no desire to make anyone change what they liked to call her.

"May I ask your name? Are you a Candidate or new to the Weyr?" His mannerisms made her think he was new and overwhelmed by the change from Hold to Weyr but he also seemed a bit familiar. V'lia had been doing her best over the last several months to reconnect with people and mingle and make new friends but she was fairly certain she hadn't met this man. That was all right, they met now and she was determined to befriend and help him.

Anger flared in Cazelarias when the woman shifted around to sit down beside him, but the flare was hot and fast, before fading away into the void of whatever; he turned to look at her flatly for a few moments, and then turned his head away again. If she wanted to sit there, then so be it. He didn’t care; he didn’t care about anything. It was easier not to care, and it hurt less. When she spoke, about a nice hall and making friends, Cazelarias felt exasperated for a moment, before turning to her with the blank expression once more. “That’s nice.” He said without feeling and without indicating what it was in her statement that was nice. Let her decide. He didn’t care.

Then she wanted his name, and information, and Cazelarias pursed his lips for a moment, clenching his teeth as he worked quite hard not to growl at the girl or roll his eyes or something that would no doubt have her poking at him more in some way or something. “Cazelarias.” He said simply, biting out his name and shifting his gaze to his fingernails, which he began to pick at for lack of anything better to do. He didn’t have the energy to continue the conversation, or to get up and run away, or to cry now that his tears had dried up and all he was feeling were spurts of irritation and exasperation. He was so tired, all he wanted to do was magically appear in his bed where he could curl up and forget about the existence of anything and everything in exchange for the deep and dreamless sleep he was growing used to.

V'lia gave a nearly inaudible soft sigh. This was going to be a tough nut to crack. It really was tempting to give in and leave. He clearly didn't want her there and was doing his best to make her leave. She didn't owe him anything and had already made her intentions known that she had been worried about him and was now interested in him so he could stop her if he wanted to. But leaving could also show that she hadn't been serious about knowing him or that perhaps she had an ulterior motive and was giving up on trying because he wasn't willing. She supposed staying could be seen the same way. Some people in the past simply could not understand why she was so determined to befriend them or at least make them smile again after a bad day.

"It's lovely to meet you, Cazelarias," V'lia smiled as she spoke, meaning her words. Sure he was cranky and doing his best to scare her off but it was still nice to meet new people, even in bad circumstances. Sometimes seeing someone at their lowest or their worst was a good test and forging of a bond. But she was admittedly at a loss with how to proceed in this case. It was clear to her that Cazelarias was lonely and feeling either in over his head or maybe left out.

But where to start? Maybe she'd let him start.

"I'm a good listener, even if you just want to yell and rant." V'lia spoke casually, like discussing the weather, and kept her hands in her lap while looking at the wall across from them. Impulse was to touch his arm or leg and give him a little physical comfort but she wasn't sure that was what Cazelarias wanted right then and she didn't want to push him too much.
