Month 05, 741 AL

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 06, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries: Season, Low to High
Ista Boundaries: Season, Low to High

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Month 09, 739 AL
North: Early Autumn| South: Early Spring
13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself uncommonly warm (~12C / 53.6) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

The late-season weather is settling, with much of the Northern hemisphere coated in snow (the exception being the much warmer Ista region) while Katila remains humid and sweltering in the height of Summer.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

With the end of December, our Christmas layout has gone back into hiding! You'll be able to use it again at the end of the year, when Christmas again rolls around. You can expect a new layout for the site in the near future.

December 2017

And so it is December! Can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! At any rate, we have LOTS of fun for you this month! For starters, why don’t you sign up for our Secret Santa Event! Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

This month we will also be focusing on the RP Records, and request you submit all your threads here so we can update the Timeline! As it says in the thread, the Timeline will be updated every month, in the first week. To help us maintain, be sure to submit your threads as soon as you open them!

November 2017

Welcome to November! We'd love it if you would take the time to Vote in our Horrifying Moments threads! We will also be awarding Stamps for people who vote, not just those who took part! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did! You can see the Stamps that will be awarded in the Horrifying Moment's thread.

This month we are doing a 'Words of the Month' event! You can choose your word/s as indicated in the thread, and may particpate with as many characters as you desire! This contest has no voting to earn stamps; you get a stamp just for participating! Enjoy!

October 2017

Welcome to October! As part of our Halloween celebrations, the Horrifying Moments event is now open! You may START a thread at any point during the month of October to qualify it for the event! We hope you have a lot of fun with this event, and we look forward to reading your threads! Don't forget to "Like" the threads you enjoy most, so we can award someone the MOST HORRIFYING stamp! Stamps will be revealed later in the month!

September 2017

Welcome to September! This month, we're working on our Awards for the site! We are also advertising avidly! Please welcome any guests or new members with all that warm charm we know you all posess! That said, we are still seeking Affiliates, so if you're here to drop an ad, please consider us!

Our next PC Clutch will be in the new year, so now is the pefect time to join with old candidates (how many clutches have they stood for now?!) and candidate hopefuls! Get those eager young men and women out there and grow them so we can match them with their perfect lifemate when the new year rolls around and one of our lovely golds throws a clutch on the Sands -- At this point in time, the Weyrs are sharing Candidates, so your Candidate can be Searched by any Weyr, and transfer to the one holding the PC clutch!

August 2017

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in the Cbox or Discord chats, which can be found on the lower part of the screen.

July 2017

We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

June 2017

We are on the brink of relaunching! Our history is being rewritten and cleaned up! We are accepting new members, and old! Our advertisment has been re-written, and will be put out there soon. We are also accepting affiliates of all descriptions, genres and themes! If you would like to affiliate with us, please go here
We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

Vessaelia had been a horrible friend. Again. Since reconnecting with Beckitt over a year ago at a Gather, they hadn’t really kept in touch. A lot of that could be blamed on her friend Impressing to a sickly dragon that needed a lot of attention and care and she didn’t want to bother him. That turned into her fretting too much about the pair, especially when the rumours came swirling around and she never found herself going down to Ista. But bless B’kit’s pure soul for he eventually reached out and they started writing letters regularly and finally, she had given in and agreed to visit.

B’kit had said he understood her hesitance but Vessaelia still worried she had hurt his feelings. To start making up for it, she had made rider and dragon some gifts that she now had safely tucked away in a bag that was slung across her body. But as Tiath knelt to let her climb up, Vessaelia started pacing while chewing her lower lip and wringing her hands. He is your friend and would not keep asking you to visit if he did not want you there or was mad you have not come sooner.

“I know! But he’s a lot more sensitive than he lets on and I worry my selfishness once again hurt him.” But delaying wouldn’t solve anything so Vessaelia soon mounted up, checking everything over once more, and gave word she was ready. She cleared her mind of all the fears clinging to her and focused on the Ista point they had been trained in back in the weyrling days. A deep breath later and they were between and soon emerging in the warmth of Ista in the autumn which felt like summer after the journey.

He said their weyr was in that direction and they would be waiting on the ledge for—oh! There he is! Vessaelia smiled when she spotted the familiar form of her friend with a dragon of the perfect shade of blue like B’kit had described sitting beside him. They glided down to land on the open area and Vessaelia scrambled down to throw herself at B’kit for a large hug.

“I am so sorry I didn’t come sooner! I never realise how much I miss you until I see you again,” she gave a nervous laugh, still mad at herself for avoiding him and anyone outside of Telgar Weyr if she was being honest, but she was glad to have finally made a trip. “And that must be Erebuth?” She asked, peeking around B’kit to get a better look at the dragon.

B’kit was excited to see Vessaelia again. Between the chaotic Impression and difficult weyrlinghood, he had lost touch with friends at other Weyrs, which he regretted. He’d reconnected with others, writing copious short notes to try to keep Nutmeg out of trouble by keeping him busy with messages.

Hearing the watch dragon greet the newcomers, he headed to the edge of the ledge and waved happily when he saw the bright green of Tiath’s hide. Erebuth made room for her to land and Kitt caught Vessaelia in a hug with a laugh. “It’s wonderful to see you again! Don’t apologize, Vessa; some days I can’t believe it’s been well over a Turn already since the Hatching.”

He grinned and let her pull back for a peek at Erebuth. The blue had politely greeted the much larger green and let her take his preferred sunny spot on the ledge, but he peered over curiously at the sound of his name. He was still tiny for a blue, barely 17 feet long and far too skinny, but his deep blue hide gleamed from frequent oiling. While he didn’t like a fuss being made over him, Erebuth knew B’kit had been anxious about seeing his friend again, and he made an effort to not retreat. It is nice to meet you and Tiath.

Thank you for sharing your ledge, Erebuth. Tiath dipped her head in greeting to her young host, always mindful of her manners.

Vessaelia continued to smile as she stepped around to properly meet Erebuth. He seemed so small and so skinny! Steady. It will not do to upset either of them, Tiath warned, sensing how uncomfortable the blue dragon already was. Vessaelia nodded and put her smile back on full brightness from where it had wavered at seeing Erebuth.

"It's lovely to meet you as well. B'kit might not accept my apology but I hope you do. I've neglected so many friends and I should have met you sooner." She meant it but the longer she looked at Erebuth, the more her heart broke. The poor dear was so frail! This was everything she had been afraid of!

Be positive. Right, positive. They had been working on that lately. Erebuth was alive and had overcome so many obstacles. So what if he was tiny? Thallyath was also petite, so perhaps that was just what her clutches would always be.

"B'kit has told me how wonderful you are but I hope he hasn't been too much of a handful for you. Perhaps we can trade some embarrassing stories and gossip later." She couldn't help but love the boy no matter how high her fears were. But she refrained from touching him, recalling from letters how timid Erebuth could be.

You’re welcome. There’s plenty of room and I don’t take up much space. The blue stretched out, accepting some affectionate chin-rubs from his rider and taking comfort from his relaxing mood. He looked at Vessaelia as she apologized to him, eyes swirling in confusion for a moment. What had she done? B’kit had told him sometimes people got busy and that it wasn’t anything they’d done wrong, so why should she apologize for not meeting him?

But then she suggested stories and gossip, and the confusion was replaced with excitement. Oh yes! I love stories and I have some of my own. I know other dragons tell stories and I’m not as good as they are, but B’kit acts so silly sometimes and it’s fun to share that. Siolilth’s rider tried teaching me how to tell better stories, but B’kit is better at that. And singing. Will you sing for her? Everyone loves your singing; they say so. Erebuth butted his head into Kitt’s chest, nervousness forgotten entirely. B’kit laughed, catching himself and pushing lightly back till the blue settled again.

“Maybe in a bit, Re,” he said, still chuckling. “Vessa and I were candidates together for a while, and I’m sure she’s heard me sing before.” The blue quieted, shifting his wings for a better position and snuggling down onto the warm stone. I’d love to hear a story later. A story for a song, maybe? Or one of my stories--I could tell you about how silly he was around Siolith’s rider after she Flew--he wouldn’t let me chase though, Erebuth added as an aside to Tiath. Kitt choked and flushed at the reminder. “Maybe not that story, Erebuth.”

She hadn’t expected Erebuth to be so chatty but as he continued on, Vessaelia smiled more. He really was a dear, just as B’kit said. She was close to just sitting down beside the dragon and spending the visit with him, figuring she could properly catch up with B’kit another time but that would be rude and there was plenty of time that day to visit with both of them. “I will happily listen to any stories you have, Erebuth. I’m not that great at telling them but I’ll do my best for you. I’ll have to think about which one to start with. For now, you enjoy the sun with Tiath and see if you can get her to loosen up.”

One more smile for Erebuth and Vessaelia spun back around on B’kit with an eyebrow raised. “Really? You’re holding out on stories about you and J’shom? You better make that up to me by sharing all the juicy details. But in a moment. I brought gifts and I don’t want to forget.” Only the fact that she was still wearing the bag reminded her of them. No doubt she would have realised when she returned to Telgar, having been so overwhelmed by the reunion.

The first item she pulled out of her bag was a blue dragon plushie she had made. She loved sewing and creating the dolls for kids in the crèche had become a hobby of hers over the last few years but she had never given one to a friend. This one was a bit larger than what she made for the children and it was, of course, in dark blue to be a little version of Erebuth. She presented it to B’kit, almost shyly, waiting for him to accept it and admit that it was one of her creations. “I made this out of the same fabric,” she quickly added, pulling free of the bag a long strip of fabric she had cleaned up the edges on to be used to pull back hair. “I’m glad you still haven’t followed through with your threats to shave off your hair. I’ve always loved when it was longer.”

Blushing, she turned back to Erebuth, apologising again, “sorry to bother you again, but I got you something as well. I had it commissioned from a lovely woman, Zahrah. I’m not sure if you ever met her while she lived here but she’s in Benden Weyr now.” Carefully, Vessaelia pulled out another item, this one wrapped protectively in a thick cloth. Removing the cloth, she presented the glowstone lamp made in a colourful mosaic of glass. In one of their letters, B’kit had mentioned night time was sometimes an issue as Erebuth didn’t seem fond of the dark. She was sure they had little glow lamps already but she’d always loved the items Zahrah created with colourful shards of glass and asked to have this one created. “So you will always have a rainbow within reach.”

B’kit flushed again at her teasing. “Only a few stories,” he hedged. “But since you were one of the people who inspired me to actually admit my feelings, I suppose I do owe you a couple.” Still, the thought of gifts quickly distracted him. “You really didn’t have to do that, Vessa...”

A delighted smile spread across his face as he saw the plush dragon and he accepted it eagerly. “It’s wonderful! It looks just like Re did as a Hatchling,” he gushed, pulling her into a hug. “You made it? That’s so clever of you; I sew, but nothing like this!” Pulling back, he admired the dragon plush more closely, enthralled. “Look, Re--it’s you!” He showed the blue, excited. “The beads you used for his eyes are perfect. Thank you,” he said, kissing her cheek.

Kitt also accepted the hair ribbon with a grin of thanks. “Everyone keeps saying that, but they don’t have to deal with the tangles and bed-head involved. I don’t know how you and other ladies keep yours so much longer.” As he spoke, he worked on pulling his hair back out of his face, tying it with the new ribbon. “I did have to cut most of it off early in weyrlinghood; it took too much time to maintain. But it’s grown back nicely over the Turn.”

Erebuth was a little startled, but curious when B’kit’s friend said she’d brought him a gift too. A present for me? But it isn’t Turn’s End or anything special like that. Still, he watched curiously as she unwrapped it, B’kit hiding another smile behind his hand as he watched. As the gift was revealed he was grateful Vessaelia was turned away and he swiped away a few tears at the thoughtfulness. “How lovely. Let me get a glow so we can see what it looks like lit up.”

Oh yes please! Thank you. I love pretty lights. Sure enough there were several small glow lanterns around this portion of the weyr, though nothing nearly as elaborate as this one. The blue waited eagerly as B’kit lit it, then set it where it could be admired while they talked.

Kitt stole her hand and squeezed it lightly. “Thank you,” he said again quietly.

“Friends don’t need special days to give gifts,” Vessaelia explained as B’kit went to find a glow for the new lamp. “Sometimes gifts are for apologies or greetings or simply because we want to. You could say these cover all of those areas but it’s mostly because I wanted to.” She was so relieved that both seemed to like the gifts and once the lamp was set up, Vessaelia stood back to watch Erebuth inspect it and then settle in to enjoy it. She was close to tears, some of fear over the dragon’s appearance but most were of joy and she gave B’kit a small smile when he squeezed her hand. “You’re welcome,” she replied, just as softly.

Fearing she would cry, Vessaelia quickly turned away under the guise of finally removing her riding gear, shuffling over to Tiath to leave her bag and gear in a neat pile. You did well with the gifts. You know your friends well and truly listen to what they tell you. Vessaelia huffed at her dragon even as she gave her side a gentle pat. Is it really so hard to believe I’m not just a pretty face? I can pay attention when I want to and I love making others smile.

Turning away from Tiath, Vessaelia returned to B’kit and sat beside him so they could properly catch up. “All right, time to fill in all of the details you have clearly been leaving out of the letters. I might even be convinced to tell you more about A’dis if you ask prettily enough.”

So much had changed since they last caught up in person. While he’d shared some things about the relationship in letters, others were better kept secret—or teased out in person by friends.

“You’d better tell me about A’dis if I’m to share,” B’kit teased, leading her into the small sitting room. He offered her something to drink and sank into one of the chairs after setting the plush down carefully. “Where should I begin? Obviously I told you how I finally admitted my feelings like you suggested, after Sh’ran snapped at me,” he said with a laugh.

“Frankly, it’s been by turns utterly amazing and the single most frustrating experience of my life. J’shom treats me like glass sometimes, which is incredibly sweet, but it’s not like I’m going to break. Convincing him that Erebuth and I were fine for anything more than a chaste kiss was a trial of patience, but we’ve gained ground the closer we get to graduation.”

He hid a smile into his drink, flushing slightly as he thought back to the story Erebuth had brought up. Siolilth’s latest Flight had surely been memorable. “His green Flew a few months ago, as Erebuth so thoughtfully mentioned,” he said, glancing over at her. “He wanted to chase, probably picking up on my emotions more than anything, and I was extremely tempted but he was so young and just getting over a sprain so we sat it out… and… well… I might have jumped him the moment he kicked the winner out after.” The rest came out in a rush and he blushed again.

“But enough about me--how’s your dear bronzerider? Sounds like things are going well from your letters?”

"And once again I'm going to point out that I'm always right," Vessaelia laughed as she settled in for the tale. She was a sucker for a love story and couldn't help but be charmed by B'kit and J'shom. She chuckled and sighed at being treated like glass, knowing how that felt as well, though A'dis didn't seem quite as bad. But overall she was happy with what she was hearing and that her friend was treated well and clearly in love.

"Maybe for her next Flight Erebuth can enter." Hopefully he bulked up a bit more by then and she wouldn't have to worry about him being injured in a chase. "But it sounds like you still know how to win the Flight in the end! Before I Impressed, A'dis would come find me when he lost a Flight. A bronzerider lost to flightlust is something I highly recommend!" Though it probably wasn't for everyone given how intense it could be but that was what she liked about it.

"Things are well." She held out her right hand to show off the ring she wore. "I commissioned us matching rings as a promise that we are always there for each other, even with goldriders being an important part of his image and career goals. I encouraged him to follow his dream of being Weyrleader one day. I think he would be excellent at it but he needs a bit more confidence." His damnable father had done such a number on A'dis and she didn't think she would ever be able to like that man.

B’kit smirked and said, “I don’t know… it would be absolutely wonderful to win, but J’shom seemed to like me jealous too. It’s a good thing Sio flies so infrequently or we’d really end up sick of the routine.”

He examined the ring, admiring the design and the story. “That’s a lovely idea, Vessa. I’m sure he will do well at it, but I know that he’ll stand by you as well. You found a good one.” He grinned at her.

She seemed to have settled more into acceptance of the hand she’d been dealt with her Impression. It would be hard to forget how disappointed she had been initially, but her bond with Tiath seemed healthy, and the fact she was able to maturely deal with the conflict of her mate’s goals was encouraging. It probably didn’t hurt that Tiath seemed to be much more grounded, balancing out her rider.

Erebuth had chattered away to the green, but dozed off as the visit went on, lulled by the flickering of the lantern and the afternoon sun. B’kit felt him drift off to sleep and relaxed minutely; barely aware he’d done so. The blue had been restless the past few evenings, so a nap might do him some good.

Erebuth sleeps. Ask your questions that are weighing on your heart, Tiath gently yet somehow also strongly encouraged as was her usual way. Vessaelia had hated the way the green did that and sometimes still bristled but in this case, she had a point. But be gentle with your friend all the same. What you have seen for only a short time is his life now.

She scooted closer to her friend and took his hand in hers once more. “How are you really, Kitt? The both of you? I know some of what you must have been going through with the comments others make,” and B’kit was far too sweet of a man to be able to withstand any of it for too long. She hoped he had better friendships than what she had given him over the last year to go to for support. And now he had J’shom which seemed like a sturdy relationship.

She wanted to ask if he thought Erebuth would fill out and grow stronger eventually but Tiath’s voice echoed in her mind. She was right, as usual. B’kit likely thought about that day in and day out and she noticed how he looked a bit gaunt himself. The man was probably not taking care of himself properly, even with a sexy older mate likely attempting it himself. Food and rest could only do so much when worry was the constant state of being.

Before he could answer her questions about how he was doing, Vessaelia leaned in and gave him a sweet but fleeting kiss to the lips. “You’re one of the good ones as well, Kitt. You have Erebuth because you were not only worthy of a dragon but strong enough to help those in need.”

A complicated expression crossed over his face at the question. He wanted to say they were both fine--really he did, and they were so close to graduating, only a few days away, so things were clearly okay. Except they weren’t.

He clung to her hand like a lifeline and smiled wanly at the kiss and reassurances. “Not well. I know how he looks; he’s a sack of bones. I look at his clutchmates and they’re filling out. Dyoricath especially. Re on the other hand… He barely eats, Vessa. He hasn’t been complaining of any pain, or anything else, but he’s stubborn. He fights to prove himself. They all do.”

He sighed shakily. “We hardly got any sleep those first few months, sure they were going to just drift off or stop breathing. I still have nightmares about it. Hell, half the Weyr thought Zezeth was dead at the Hatching till Madi ran onto the sands.”

“It’s been almost a Turn since he was diagnosed with ulcers, but he’s starting to act that way again. Odd sleeping and barely eating. But of course everything’s more pronounced now he’s bigger. His color’s still good, and it’s not the same situation, probably, I don’t--” his throat tightened. “I don’t know what I’ll do if something happens to him. I’ve been trying to just focus on graduation, and being positive because he obviously picks up on everything and tries to put on a brave face, and I’m sure I’m just being a silly wherry over nothing. But I’m still anxious and I can’t explain it.”

"Oh, Kitten! I'm so sorry," Vessaelia pulled him into a hug, holding him gently and not saying anything as she hoped to soothe him with just touch. She hadn't realised exactly how bad things were. Seeing Erebuth was hard. He was all skin and bones but the sweetest boy and that made it harder to deal with. The rumours about the small class were of course exaggerated but held some truths but at the same time, they didn't know all of the horrible truth.

She had thought they would only be dealing with cruel words, not constant health issues and fears. This was more than she was capable of helping with. She didn't know how to fix a sick dragon or give them both peaceful sleep once more. Vessaelia felt useless in that moment and hated that her concern had brought about more pain.

But maybe B'kit was right and they were being silly wherries and she eventually said, "look how far he's already come. Erebuth is stronger than his appearance leads us to believe. And he loves you too much to ever leave you. You make each other stronger and whole." Vessaelia hesitated in her pep talk that was trying to convince herself as well and then added something that Indivara drilled into her head--though her talks usually had more cursing and frustration.

"Brave faces aren't always helpful. Talk to each other about everything and work together on it. We're not alone anymore and can do more than we think."

He clung tightly, his resolve breaking in a moment. The touch was more comforting than she probably knew, and he was able to settle again shortly, though he didn’t pull away.

She was hardly the first one he’d confessed these fears to—just the first person outside the group that had been with the class night and day. J’shom, L’gan, and the others had been supportive too, and the healers had examined Erebuth again and not found anything wrong, otherwise the pair wouldn’t be graduating. But he couldn’t shake the foreboding feeling that something was going to happen.

Swallowing, he wiped his eyes with his sleeve. “You’re right, of course. We aren’t alone. And fretting today won’t solve tomorrow’s hypothetical problems.’ B’kit finally sat back up from where he’d had his head on her shoulder and leaned over to kiss her cheek. “Thank you, Vessa…”

She gave B’kit a warm smile, not sure if she really helped him much—especially since she had also been the one to make him break down. It was good to cry and voice the frustrations and fears, something that took her a while to figure out as she had been too embarrassed for the longest time to even want to see A’dis let alone confide in him. But B’kit was loved by many, including herself, so she knew he’d always have someone to turn to when needed.

“You know what else is helpful? Good food made by a friend. Shall we peek at what you have and see what I can whip together? My mom always said that a meal could make friends out of anyone but meals made with love healed friends.” Vessaelia always thought her mom was a bit odd with her advice and sayings but the older she got, the more a lot of them made sense. In this case, though, she wished anything she made really would heal B’kit and Erebuth but she’d also be happy if it brought the hoped-for comfort. Maybe if she was lucky he’d have the needed items for friendship bread! That would be perfect and it was simple enough that he could make it again if he liked it.
