Month 05, 741 AL

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 06, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries: Season, Low to High
Ista Boundaries: Season, Low to High

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Month 09, 739 AL
North: Early Autumn| South: Early Spring
13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself uncommonly warm (~12C / 53.6) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

The late-season weather is settling, with much of the Northern hemisphere coated in snow (the exception being the much warmer Ista region) while Katila remains humid and sweltering in the height of Summer.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

With the end of December, our Christmas layout has gone back into hiding! You'll be able to use it again at the end of the year, when Christmas again rolls around. You can expect a new layout for the site in the near future.

December 2017

And so it is December! Can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! At any rate, we have LOTS of fun for you this month! For starters, why don’t you sign up for our Secret Santa Event! Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

This month we will also be focusing on the RP Records, and request you submit all your threads here so we can update the Timeline! As it says in the thread, the Timeline will be updated every month, in the first week. To help us maintain, be sure to submit your threads as soon as you open them!

November 2017

Welcome to November! We'd love it if you would take the time to Vote in our Horrifying Moments threads! We will also be awarding Stamps for people who vote, not just those who took part! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did! You can see the Stamps that will be awarded in the Horrifying Moment's thread.

This month we are doing a 'Words of the Month' event! You can choose your word/s as indicated in the thread, and may particpate with as many characters as you desire! This contest has no voting to earn stamps; you get a stamp just for participating! Enjoy!

October 2017

Welcome to October! As part of our Halloween celebrations, the Horrifying Moments event is now open! You may START a thread at any point during the month of October to qualify it for the event! We hope you have a lot of fun with this event, and we look forward to reading your threads! Don't forget to "Like" the threads you enjoy most, so we can award someone the MOST HORRIFYING stamp! Stamps will be revealed later in the month!

September 2017

Welcome to September! This month, we're working on our Awards for the site! We are also advertising avidly! Please welcome any guests or new members with all that warm charm we know you all posess! That said, we are still seeking Affiliates, so if you're here to drop an ad, please consider us!

Our next PC Clutch will be in the new year, so now is the pefect time to join with old candidates (how many clutches have they stood for now?!) and candidate hopefuls! Get those eager young men and women out there and grow them so we can match them with their perfect lifemate when the new year rolls around and one of our lovely golds throws a clutch on the Sands -- At this point in time, the Weyrs are sharing Candidates, so your Candidate can be Searched by any Weyr, and transfer to the one holding the PC clutch!

August 2017

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in the Cbox or Discord chats, which can be found on the lower part of the screen.

July 2017

We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

June 2017

We are on the brink of relaunching! Our history is being rewritten and cleaned up! We are accepting new members, and old! Our advertisment has been re-written, and will be put out there soon. We are also accepting affiliates of all descriptions, genres and themes! If you would like to affiliate with us, please go here
We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

Feet heavy and slow, Alekse pushed himself the last mile up to the Weyr entrance. He had no message bundle in his pouch, having left it at station 42, which would be his new home for the time being. He’d met the old Master with a hearty handshake in greeting before a quick discussion of what his new duties would be. Starting the evening after next. Master Venan had given the time allowance with a wink, knowing the young man would be weary after his cross-continent run, and knowing from the number of letters back and forth through the station between Alekse and his special someone, that the he had another destination in mind, anyway. The old Runner had urged Alekse to stay and rest, but no…he was so close. Only a day’s run to the Weyr. One foot in front of the other. Keep moving. Don’t stop.

The tunnel, dark, damp and cold, opened out into the bowl of Benden Weyr. He blinked into the last rays of sunlight that glinted off of the dragon-claw-smoothed ledges, worn down from centuries of winged occupants. Stopping to take in the massiveness of it all, he felt, like he often did on lonely runs when he broke stride to take in a sunrise or watch a storm crawl across the horizon, that he was only a small, insignificant piece of something so much bigger. Figures of dragons and people milled about the Weyr, each set to some unknown task, and he marveled at the simple beauty of everything moving so well together in the ebb and flow of elegant, everyday life. The subtle spiciness of the massive creatures drifted across the light breeze, and he breathed the smell in deep.

At the edge of the Weyr bowl a child squealed in excited play, and he watched a group of young ones chase each other from what must be creche. A smile touched his lips at that. Then a blonde figure emerged from the lower caverns, calling to the little dark-haired girl -Zarel, he realized- not to run.

He’d only met this woman the one time, but he recognized her immediately, and his smile grew. The weight in his legs was still there, but somewhere he found a reserve of strength and willingness to move his bone-weary self forward again, and he strode lightly down to her.

She was facing away from him, and he stopped about a dragonlength behind her, savoring the moment. This moment, watching her call after her child, in her Weyr, just…her. Regardless of how she might respond, whether or not the sparks between them had faded or kept burning, he just wanted to live in this moment. Right here, right now, just as it was. There was nothing else that mattered. After what felt like an entirely too-short time, he spoke.

“No running…” he said, just loud enough to be heard by her. “Does that apply to me, too?”

For a moment she went very still as a smile broke over her face and she whirled, her head tilting a little as she looked him over. Oh, Faranth but he was a sight for sore eyes, wasn't he? She closed the space between them, her hands moving to cup his cheeks.

"Not if you're running my way, Runner Alekse," she murmured, pressing a kiss against his lips. "Come, have some water or klah even, and rest before Zarel gets a hold of you and I never see you again." The last was a definite joke because Zarel knew how much Alekse meant to her Mama.

It didn't mean the poor Runner wouldn't be assaulted with questions, though. Her cool fingertips brushed his cheeks for a moment more and then she was kissing him again, slowly, because she could, and her arms encircled his waist as she did so. That spark? It hadn't left, not even a little.

A bunch of kids were going OooOooOo at them but Zahrah paid them no mind. This wasn't for them, it was for her, for Alekse, and for the future.

"I missed you, my Runner," she murmured against his lips. "I missed you every day."

He allowed himself to forget his leaden feet and imagined he had wings instead, for surely the is what it felt like to fly. His hands found their way to the nape of her neck, tangling in her hair as she greeted him with an enthusiastic kiss, and any doubt he held vanished like a dragon going between. He barely registered her offer of refreshment, nodding absently against her, just happy to finally be here.

She was kissing him again, and somewhere through the fatigue and fogginess and the rush of her lips against his he heard the buzz of conversation around them, and he chuckled at the small crowd they seem to have attracted.

“I’ve missed you, too.” He whispered, smiling against her.

He debated for a brief moment before deciding that letting her out of his arms wasn’t worth it, even to walk whatever short distance was needed. Energy somewhat renewed, in one swift movement, he reached an arm behind her legs and scooped her up, holding her against his chest and stifling any objections with another kiss. They’d already made a spectacle of themselves, so why not? He was enjoying just holding her, and she seemed to be more than comfortable in his arms.

“Where to, m’lady?” He asked, and nodded when she offered direction. Tossing a wink and a cheeky grin over his shoulder toward anyone who happened to be watching, Alekse started walking. Setting her down once they reached stairs more for safety than anything, he still kept hold of her hand in his. She led him to her and her daughter’s quarters where klah was then poured, and he made himself comfortable on the couch, his overworked muscles complaining as he let himself relax.

He beamed at her. “Master Venan sends his regards.” He looked around the space, taking in the little details of how she and Zarel had already made it feel like a home since the Weyr opened earlier in the turn. “I uh…I got your last letters…” he coughed, feeling a combination of nervousness and being quite pleased as he recalled the contents and invitation.

When he swept her up, she actually threw back her head and laughed, directing him to their weyr apartments gaily and with little cheek kisses. Faranth, she'd missed his presence ridiculously so. But the time they were sitting, her smile still hadn't worn off.

"Master Venan is a lovely man," she said with a wide smile. "We flew down to deliver those last letters, mind you, and the lanterns. I wanted to deliver them myself. As for my letter, my dear Alekse, you are welcome to stay as long as the good Master will let you."

She brushed her fingertips against his cheek.

"My daughter may occupy you when she's not in creche but there is time enough for us." Just them. Her Alekse, for he was, and she was his and both of them felt it with a depth that would have been startling with anyone else.

"Rest and recover. I have been granted two personal days," she said softy and kissed his cheek. "For you."

Leaning into her touch, he captured her hand in his own, pressing a kiss to her open palm. Stealing a glance around the space, he decided that he could call it home. When he could, of course, as he’d be spending much time at station 42 or still on the traces.

He smiled at her words, wondering what she’d thought of that little taste of his world. When she said she’d been granted some free time his smile grew. He wanted to get to know her in her own space, and while two days wasn’t nearly enough, it would have to do for now. He’d make the most of the time he had. “I’ve got until the morning after tomorrow before I need to be on my way again. I’m to Run and meet Venan at the little unnumbered station between 42 and the Weyr. He tends them both, since that one doesn’t see enough traffic to warrant its own master.” He snaked an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him, settling the woman neatly against his side and resting his chin on her head. This felt good.

A screech from outside caught his attention, and he turned his head toward the sound. Handsome appeared, chittering excitedly, images of dragons and smiling children flitting across to Alekse. Small but pounding footsteps were growing louder outside, and knowing who would be bursting into the room, Alekse stood, a wicked grin on his face. Making pointed eye contact with Zahrah, he held a finger to his lips to indicate silence, and jerked his thumb first at himself, then at the curtain that separated the main living space from the sleeping area. A snap of his fingers and pointing gesture sent Handsome to a small stone outcropping above and out of the way, his lighter coloring blending remarkably well with the stone, particularly in shadow.

She tried her best not to laugh as her daughter bounded into the room and dive-bombed her for hugs, which were freely given and with all the warmth a mother could have for her child. She smoothed back her daughter's hair and kissed her cheeks.

"What did we learn from the Harper today, mm?" she asked. Zarel, always prompt with her learning gave her the run-down. Her memory was excellent and her favorite buddy, Shard chirruped and gave Zarah and questioning look, his eyes whirling. And image of a man shaped person bubbled up into her mind and she hushed him.

Surprise for Zarel! That shut him up quick and he flitted to her shoulder for snuggles, pressing his wedge-shaped head against her cheek and cooing. Good boy. All she had to do with him was ply him with affection, which he ate up like meat scraps, anyway.

"You know where your things go, love," she called.

"Okay, Mama! I know where everything goes, of course," she said brightly. And promptly ran straight into Alekse, bounced back and let out a cheerful cry.

"RUNNER ALEKSE!" She swiveled to find her mama and grinned. "You! You both!" And then she threw her arms around his waist and hugged him.

"Mama owes me a whole mark but I used it already. We flew down to Station 42 and met with Master Venan!"

Alekse laughed, the girl was vibrant and exuberant, nothing but smiles and cheek. “A whole mark, you say? That’s an impressive wager.” He knelt a bit, wrapping an arm around the child and giving her a squeeze in return for her enthusiastic hug. The girl bounced into the sleeping area and deposited her things in a basket on a small table before fairly running back out into the main space. “And what did you think of the good Master and my new base?”

Moving from behind the curtain back into the living area, Alekse subtly eyed the rest of the weyr, noting the smaller alcove, typically used for storage, to one side that would likely be his space. It wouldn’t take much to make it comfortable, just a cushion and some furs, because as much as he might want it, he didn’t want to presume to be occupying Zahrah’s bed.

Picking up the mug of klah where he’d left it, he made to refill his and Zahrah’s mugs, offering one to Zarel, as well. “The good master certainly was taken with you two.” He said, nodding in emphasis to the child. “He sends his best, by the way, and looks forward to seeing you again.” He turned to Zahrah, a smile quirking at his lips. “He’s appreciative of the lantern, and proud to display Benden’s colors.”

"I liked it," Zarel said with a solemn nod. "He very nice even if he looks stern. I bet he dresses down anyone who doesn't obey rules and take care of themselves. The station is nice! I'd like to run there someday."

She gave Alekse another hug and then went to cuddle up next to her mother, pointing to her Mama's unoccupied side.

"Sit there, Mama will like that more." Mama actually blushed but that was good because she really, really liked Alekse. Like-liked him and that was pretty awesome. She gave the man a long searching look and wondered if, it wasn't a long wonder, if maybe Alekse would be her new father because her other father didn't really send letter or come to the Weyr or anything and that sucked tunnel snake eggs.

She took the mug offered to her with a shit-eating grin.

"Mama needs more company."

Zahrah put a hand over her mouth to muffle the laughter. Well, her daughter certainly had designs for them and wasn't afraid to voice them. She smiled at Alekse and took a moment to gather her wits.

"I'm so pleased he likes my work. I couldn't not fly it down this time. I figured I'd like us to meet him since he's probably seen our correspondence flying back and forth. He's lovely, really." She took her mug from his hand once he'd refilled it.

Alekse's presence filled a spot in her chest that hadn't been warm for a while and when Zarel practically demanded he sit next to her, the laughter that came out was soft and bright. But her daughter was correct in her assumptions. She rather did enjoy Runner Alekse's presence right beside her.

Alekse gave the woman a sideways glance, accompanied by a raised eyebrow and solid smirk. “I’d say he gathered there was something between us from our correspondence.” The memory of the old Runner’s knowing smile and laughing gaze came to mind… Master Venan, while not intruding on Alekse’s private affairs with questions or comments, had still been absolutely insufferable with his ‘I see what’s happening’ looks. He’d probably catch hell for it later, too, if only for the sake of a little master to journeyman hazing. Ah well, the old man was reasonable and kind, if hardworking and a bit of a taskmaster. Alekse wasn’t exactly expecting any of this to be easy.

Zarel grinned and pointed to the spot on the other side of Zahrah, directing him to sit and offering a blunt explanation for the request. He laughed. “Well, who am I to deny that?” He sat back onto the sofa again, sipping at the klah and wrapping his unoccupied arm around the woman, reaching to ruffle Zarel’s hair at her other side. “After I’ve had a moment to rest, little one, why don’t you two show me around the Weyr a bit? Can’t say as I’ve spent much more than a day in one, and even then I’ve been limited to either the stands in the Hatching Grounds or the lower caverns. I’d love to see what you call home.”

"That sounds like a great idea! Mama better show you the glass lights room because they're prettiest of the rooms ever. Did you go to a Hatching? I wanna go to one, even if it's just in the Stands. I don't want to be too little anymore."

She frowned a little but leaned back as he ruffled her hair.

"Benden is biiiig. It'll take a long time to walk, so you best rest."

"You're sure you want a tour today?" Zahrah murmured, leaning into him a little. "Not that we wouldn't love to show you everything. But yes, a proper rest, some dinner."

She did fancy him in all the right ways and even here and now he felt comfortable in their little family. Zarel adored him, that was plain as day and she was clearly fighting in his corner. Adamantly, too. Zarel was never one for indirectness, that was for sure.

"Peace and quiet, perhaps?"

Zarel gave her mother a look but nodded all the same.

“I’ve been to one Hatching, and it was certainly something special.” Alekse said to Zarel, smiling at the memory. “Though I plan to attend more if I can. I look forward to attending yours and your mother’s Impressions, someday.” He smirked at her. “And ‘little’ isn’t necessarily a bad thing. My sister is the best distance Runner on all Pern, and she’s small. She’s thin, long, and lanky, but light and moves well. Small can be good. You’ve just got to learn how to make it work for you.”

He nodded assent at Zahrah’s suggestion. His legs and back ached with the extra effort he’d made over the last few days, and a tour could wait until tomorrow. He was about to say so when his stomach growled audibly, and taken aback by his body’s betrayal, he chuckled. “Well, perhaps just point me in the direction of the kitchens, then? Clearly, I could use a meal…”

"Do you want to eat here or have to get up and walk to the dining hall?" Zahrah asked, pressing a gentle kiss against his temple and then hmmed. "Alekse, love, you'll need a good soak in the hot baths for your muscles, at some point, perhaps after Zarel's down? Perks of the Weyr."

Her voice was soft and just for him. Zarel had run off for a moment or two, probably to gather her little satchel she was rarely without. Zarah found a knot at the join of his neck and should and deftly worked it out until it released. She brushed her lips over the spot where it had been and tucked herself against his side, her voice still very soft.

"I think, perhaps, I'll join you. I had a few dragons to oil yesterday. Still sore."

“Perhaps the dining hall…” His eyes closed at the sheer bliss of having the tension worked from his shoulders, and he smiled wistfully as her lips sent a tingle down his spine. The proposed soak sounded absolutely delightful, and he smirked wickedly at the possibility of her joining. “Then you can show me to the baths…a soak would be brilliant.”

Zarel appeared again from the sleeping area, satchel in hand, and he stood, if somewhat reluctantly, not wanting to displace Zahrah where she rested neatly against him. His eyes found Zahrah’s, an eager, hungry look, both for food and other things. He held her eyes for a moment longer before darting back to follow the girl where she practically bounced, ready to head out the door. Offering an elbow to each of the two ladies, they made their way to the dining area of the lower caverns, using the smells of delicious meats and baking bread as their guide.
