Month 05, 741 AL

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 06, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries: Season, Low to High
Ista Boundaries: Season, Low to High

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Month 09, 739 AL
North: Early Autumn| South: Early Spring
13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself uncommonly warm (~12C / 53.6) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

The late-season weather is settling, with much of the Northern hemisphere coated in snow (the exception being the much warmer Ista region) while Katila remains humid and sweltering in the height of Summer.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

With the end of December, our Christmas layout has gone back into hiding! You'll be able to use it again at the end of the year, when Christmas again rolls around. You can expect a new layout for the site in the near future.

December 2017

And so it is December! Can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! At any rate, we have LOTS of fun for you this month! For starters, why don’t you sign up for our Secret Santa Event! Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

This month we will also be focusing on the RP Records, and request you submit all your threads here so we can update the Timeline! As it says in the thread, the Timeline will be updated every month, in the first week. To help us maintain, be sure to submit your threads as soon as you open them!

November 2017

Welcome to November! We'd love it if you would take the time to Vote in our Horrifying Moments threads! We will also be awarding Stamps for people who vote, not just those who took part! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did! You can see the Stamps that will be awarded in the Horrifying Moment's thread.

This month we are doing a 'Words of the Month' event! You can choose your word/s as indicated in the thread, and may particpate with as many characters as you desire! This contest has no voting to earn stamps; you get a stamp just for participating! Enjoy!

October 2017

Welcome to October! As part of our Halloween celebrations, the Horrifying Moments event is now open! You may START a thread at any point during the month of October to qualify it for the event! We hope you have a lot of fun with this event, and we look forward to reading your threads! Don't forget to "Like" the threads you enjoy most, so we can award someone the MOST HORRIFYING stamp! Stamps will be revealed later in the month!

September 2017

Welcome to September! This month, we're working on our Awards for the site! We are also advertising avidly! Please welcome any guests or new members with all that warm charm we know you all posess! That said, we are still seeking Affiliates, so if you're here to drop an ad, please consider us!

Our next PC Clutch will be in the new year, so now is the pefect time to join with old candidates (how many clutches have they stood for now?!) and candidate hopefuls! Get those eager young men and women out there and grow them so we can match them with their perfect lifemate when the new year rolls around and one of our lovely golds throws a clutch on the Sands -- At this point in time, the Weyrs are sharing Candidates, so your Candidate can be Searched by any Weyr, and transfer to the one holding the PC clutch!

August 2017

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in the Cbox or Discord chats, which can be found on the lower part of the screen.

July 2017

We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

June 2017

We are on the brink of relaunching! Our history is being rewritten and cleaned up! We are accepting new members, and old! Our advertisment has been re-written, and will be put out there soon. We are also accepting affiliates of all descriptions, genres and themes! If you would like to affiliate with us, please go here
We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

Meryem was waiting in the courtyard when the brown arrived, her arms crossed. She carried her gitar and violins strapped across her back, the two she insisted she carry with her and a rucksack that charried a change of clothes and her shipping out orders.

She had tucked her hair back into an elaborate braid, which she secured with a few well placed hair pins. For the trip between, she had chosen a harper blue wool parka, embroidered with a trio of darting brown, green, and bronze firelizards. It was a charming coat that fell to her knees and was belted round the middle with a wide, thick belt. Her boots were harper blue as well and her light tunic she war beneath the parka was a soft sky blue with rust coloured embroidery.

Her hands were gloved appropriately and she'd a cap on that strapped under her chin.

It was comfortable, neat, and would do for the trip. N'tok, rider of brown Bavarth, looked her up and down and nodded.

"Not bad, Harper Meryem. I'm N'tok, your escort. Let's stow your instruments. My Bavarth will get them there safe and sound. The rucksack, too." His brown eyes studied her for a moment. "Have you gon a-dragonback before?"

"A few times," she said quietly as she stepped on the brown's proffered foreleg, launching herself up and over before sliding herself into position and hooking herself into the secondary passenger harness. It felt good as the brownrider nodded and tightened the straps a little more before hooking himself in as well.

"We'll take the scenic view once we're out of between, then you can really get a look at her."

And then with a hop-step, a lurch, they were in the air. She watched the Hall dwindle and then there was the blackness of between. Meryem simply waited without much customary terror until they popped out over Telgar. The brown made two passes over the Weyr and then circled to land.

"Bavarth says you handled that splendidly," N'tok said, clapping her on the shoulder once they were on the ground again. She glanced up at him and the almost delicately featured brown, whose eyes whirled in greens and blues. He shoved his muzzle at her and she took off a thin glove to place a hand on his hide.

"Thank you, Bavarth. N'tok. It was a good flight." People were already unloading what little she'd brought and she looked around to make sure she knew which way they are going. The brown rumbled good naturedly and it drew a smile from her.

"You best get some klah in you to chase the cold out, Lady Harper," N'tok said brightly. "Dining Hall's this way, they always have a fresh pot waiting. Maybe some fruit as well."

He was walking away before she could get her bearings but she followed with a slight jog. There wasn't too much going on but it was enough to keep her Harper eyes on it all, absorbing the flow of people that came and went as she drew a cup of klah closer to her chest.

N'tok was a busy man but he left her with a little map and the route to her rooms and the usual places she'd need to go. She was turning the map around inquisitively as the hairs on the back of her neck prickled and she looked up.

"It is too damn cold, Isper," Je'ler said with a grumble as he hopped off and unloaded the first small cask of wine. It was the third time he'd complained about the weather in the allegedly terrible frozen north this week with all the errands and deliveries they'd been running. The green dragon craned her head about to give him a look. And yet you keep agreeing to bring wine.

"Look, the riders need good wine, and there are more than enough who prefer mine over that other swill. How could I leave them wanting?" He finished unloading and hefted the first cask onto his shoulder to make his way towards the dining hall. Isperinath huffed in amusement. You could have someone else deliver it, you know. Je'ler shook his head and grinned. "But then they might try to give me some other work. At least this is easy, even if it is cold."

He hummed to himself as he started to walk, and then the hum broke out into a bawdy song about a baker's daughter and a butcher boy. The words were belted out with more enthusiasm than skill, his voice off key and only interrupted by the occasional sip from the wine skin he kept in his coat.

He did thankfully pause when he spotted the dark haired woman staring at a map and he walked up with a grin. "Hello there, are you lost?"

"Lost?" She shook her head a little. "Not quite. I just arrived here and I do have a map, so I suppose it is more like I'm going to be doing some preparatory exploring."

Her chin tilted a little.

"Apprentice Harper Meryem," she said quietly. "And Telgar Weyr seems to be my new home."

"I'm Je'ler of green Isperinath. I'm in Ista now, but I get around pretty regularly. Have to make sure no one gets too thirsty you know." He grinned as he nodded towards the cask. "If you ever need a place to hide there are some lower tunnels near the storage rooms that are out of the way and quiet. Though I'm not sure how much a harper might want to hide."

Je'ler studied her for a moment and then brightened. "Hey you happen to know any new songs? Isper gets annoyed hearing me sing the same old stuff over and over again while we're flying. My current repertoire is mostly the song about the ocean being whiskey and the one about the baker girl and butcher boy sneaking off to the flour room. And a few drinking songs I suppose, but they don't really count."

Ask her if she knows any romantic songs.

Without thinking he glanced back in his dragon's direction and huffed, "I'm not asking about no romantic songs." He turned back towards Meryem even as Isper laughed in his head. "Sorry about that, she gets sassy sometimes. Have you been here long enough to try the wine? I could let you have a taste before I get this to the dining hall."

"Good to know," she fixed that information into her brain as she did with the map. "Harpers need moments just as anyone else does, I warrant."

She looked thoughtful for a moment, then reached for her guitar only the fool thing was in her room, which she hadn't yet been to as she was still recovering from betweening. Blast!

"I just basically stepped off Bavarth, N'tok's brown, the klah's been warming my frozen insides. No wine for me, yet." She squinted a little. "I don't know why people are so frightened of it - between - maybe it's the deprivation of senses that knock people for a loop."

Her eyebrow arched slightly.

"I know many old and new songs," she said after a sip of klah. "A few I've written and composed. My gitar's..." Meryem waved off into the right direction. "Probably sitting on a bed of furs and Faranth knows what they've done to the violin. If you're wanting music, you can follow my boots this-away."

She showed him the map and traced the route to her rooms as she knocked back the rest of the klah.

"Maybe, if they've not spilt the ink everywhere, I can compose something for you and yours." There was a melody starting to come together.

"Sure that sounds fun." It had been a while since he'd been invited back to a lady's room, and while he wasn't sure where this would go he wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to slack. So Je'ler quickly called to a passing candidate, one he recognized as being helpful. "Fetch! Take this to the dining hall for me. There's some more out by Isper when you're done with that one."

The tall young man seemed startled but quickly nodded and grinned at the task before taking the cask and carrying it off. Isper, Fetch is going to be moving the rest of the wine. I'm going to be hanging out with the new harper. The green's voice sang in amusement, He's a good boy. And I still think you should get a romantic song for me. Je'ler sighed as he followed Meryem. If she performs one that's easy for me to remember then maybe.

"So how long have you been a harper for? Do you like it? I used to joke about trying to become one, but no one seemed to think I'd be any good at it."

"Since I was twelve turns," she replied easily. "Still an apprentice but apparently good enough to send to Telgar."

Her slim, lightly gloved hands tuck the map away in a pocket and stay there as she moved fluidly, following the map in her head. She grimaced a little.

"I do love it, really, but seven turns is a long time to wait for my journeyknots. I've been waiting for them my whole life, it seems. I can fix broken instruments better than new, compose, and--" Meryem waves if off rather than launch into the whole sharding mess. She opens the door to her rooms soon enough and takes a look around.

Larger than her quarters at the Hall, lots of space, organised. Her trunk and instruments have been settled neatly at the foot of her bed. Well done. She'd be worried about that. With care, she moved to get the gitar out. The pegs that allowed for tuning had been turned into little flames and the grain of the wood was whorled with a few different colors or wood.

She turned it carefully in her hands and determined it had not been harmed by the voyage, her fingers brushing over an etching of dragons fighting thread - a copy of an old tapestry she had seen many turns ago and reproduced. It had been painstakingly etched and burned, then sanded and polished. A small ruby had been inlaid above the fighting dragons and glittered in the light of the glows.

Meryem ran through an easy flurry of notes and sat at the edge of the furs, waving vaguely to a chair. She did not need her pick for this, it was all fingerwork and chords.

"Now, flying songs, easy to keep in the mind, correct?" Meryem asked quietly, settling into her element.

Je'ler took off his coat, draping it on the back of the chair before pulling out his wineskin and taking a seat. "I think it took me six years to get journeyman. It's been a long time though, I might have that wrong. I think I would still be making wine that tasted just as good if I'd been kidnapped when I was still an apprentice though."

He took a long sip of wine before offering it to Meryem with a gentle shake. "You should try a sip. I'm rather proud of this one, infused with berries, has a nice earthy note that pairs well with meats, but very easy to drink on its own too. And yep, a good flying song would be great. Something easy to keep in mind, easy to sing to Isper. Though if I'm honest I'll probably sing it while working and not just while flying. Wine needs to be sung to."

The instrument she held was certainly quite impressive looking, and Je'ler wasn't sure he'd ever seen anything quite like it. It was certainly fancier than anything he'd ever owned. "Did you make that? It suits you I think."

"It always seems forever," Meryem murmured, strumming a little. "Apprenticing can be a bit like kidnapping, I suppose. You have to fight and scrape and claw your way to the top. Competition in certain disciplines can be extremely rough on those who want to rise in their fields of study."

Like her and her waning patience.

She set aside her gloves and rose letting him hold the instrument as she took the offered wine. It was very good, and she nodded at the first sip, letting it roll around for a moment. Excellent.

"Well made and balanced, too. You've a good hand at vinting." Meryem smiled. "Aye, that one I made. One of my newer ones a good turn old, the tone is mellowing out nicely. All the carving, cutting, even the star I did myself. I enjoy inlaying stone and wood, there's something good about achieving that seamless look."

She handed the flask back and let him get a feel for the balanced weight of the guitar and how the belly of it filled out the space between the arms for a more natural, less tiring cradling of the instrument. Her lips curved a little.

"It may be a bit non-standard but it produces excellent sound. Clear, crisp, perfect for performances. And thank you, I'm right pleased with it. Not everything I make is that complicated but the special ones are always memorable."

Je'ler couldn't quite relate to the competition aspect of things, he'd become a vintner to try to have something with his father back when the man was alive and when he was kidnapped he'd actively done as little as possible to the point that impressing had been a shock. He nodded anyway though, trying to offer at least that token amount of support to the apprentice harper.

He took the instrument gingerly, almost worried that his rough hands would damage it, and studied it up close. "It is lovely, just like its maker." Je'ler gave her a sly wink, unable to help the flirt. He could feel Isper laughing at the cheesy line but ignored her for the moment and instead decided to give the instrument a strum, or at least tried to. With his left hand holding the neck in such a way as to partially mute some strings but not others, the sound he produced was discordant and almost hilariously sad.

He laughed, shaking his head. "It probably sounds a lot better in your hands. Here, I'll give this back to you and stick to what I actually know, booze and bad singing." He offered the instrument back to trade for his wineskin and took another sip as he leaned back in the chair. "I don't think I could ever own anything even half as fancy as that. I'd be terrified of breaking it."

The flirting was ridiculous and she shook her head at it.

"It would take quite a beating to break it," Meryem said with a soft snort. "The wood was rather difficult to work but with it for its look. It's only a little heavier than a standard guitar but it feels good to cradle when playing."

She took back her instrument and smiled.

"Now, listen carefully." Her voice filled the room in smoky, rich melody while the guitar supported the little rollicking song as she tapped out a beat on the gitar as well.

Here, oh high
above the night
a dragonman he flies tonight
green the gleam of moonslight
upon her lovely wing tonight

Oh here, oh high
above the night
a dragonman flies tonight
a task to carry, a flask of merry
for sake of all, he should not tarry

It was just a little thing that had Je'ler's mannerisms and nature somehow captured in a moment. She was definitely sassing him.

"Probably not the only thing to feel good while playing," Je'ler added another wink before laughing. "Sorry, sorry." He leaned back as he settled in to listen, his right leg climbing up so he could rest his ankle on his left knee. His foot twitched in time with the music, and his smile broadened as he listened to the lyrics until by the end he slapped his leg and let out another laugh.

"Isper will probably like that. She'd insist on that last part, try to get me to hurry up. Though she'd probably also tell me to hush." The dragon was too busy visiting a friend to offer commentary of her own. He hummed the tune to himself and tried to softly sing a few lines, actually putting some effort into his voice since he was trying to learn the song. As a result his voice was only a little off key rather than the loudly irreverent manner in which he usually sang. "I like it. It's a fine flying song, even if I normally try to avoid that much sass about how long I'm taking. But a performance that good deserves another drink."

Je'ler took one more sip from his flask before passing the flask back. "So what other instruments do you play? And do you have any preferences for wine? I'll see about bringing a bottle just for you next time I fly up."

The flirt sailed over her head but she laughed anyway because he was trying and at least it sounded like a flirt. After her little flyig song was over, she offered a grin. It was cheeky, yes, but catchy, and it made him laugh, so it had done its job.

"Sass is there to make your lifemate laugh," she said innocently. "Granted I'm sure she enjoys visiting with the Weyr's dragons while you poke at new Harpers. Not that I mind."

She mulled over his question, which, honestly needed a bit of a think. The wine, too.

"Anything with strings," she finally said. "Harp, guitar, violin. I have a fondness for them. I can repair near about any instrument that's broken, though. As for wine, I really do enjoy spicy, fruity ones. I don't have much wine but a good bottle deserves to be taken in a friend now and again. I do appreciate the effort."

"Oh she doesn't need a song to find a reason to laugh at me, or to sass me herself," Je'ler said fondly. "And she has enough friends to keep her entertained when I get distracted." Je'er could tell Isper had found someone to curl up with for warmth while she waited on him. He was glad for that; she deserved to be just as toasty and out of the cold as he did even if she didn't seem as bothered by it.

He tilted his head curiously at the list of instruments, it seemed like a lot, though he wasn't sure. Either way he didn't mind being easily impressed. The wine at least he knew. "You're a far more talented person than I could ever hope to become. At least I have wine though. And I do have a nice spiced mead I make with some added apples. It's even rather nice warmed up in the colder months. Not that Ista has many of those, but it would probably be nice for up here. I'll bring a bottle next time I'm up. Think you can survive without my charm and wine for a week?" He smirked at that, part of him surprised that he hadn't had anything thrown at him yet during his little visit.

"Being a dragonrider must be lovely," she said quietly. "I suppose one can't really imagine it until actual Impression and the like but it sounds like you two are a wonderful match. Clearly, you need the sass."

The last part was said with a grin.

"I imagine the weather will only get colder," Meryem murmured, shaking her head. "If we're talking survival, that might be tough. I still have to meet my classes and the leadership. I might need that mead more than I think. I suppose cold weather isn't the worst of things, though I rather like thick tunics and furs, myself."

Meryem paused.

"I do have to wonder if I pissed off the wrong Master, though. Telgar isn't the prime choice when it comes to assignments. I honestly don't mind or care. As long as I can continue my work, I'm fine. Mind you, if you need a flask that's fancy for your wine, I could make that easily enough. Leather is fun to work with."

"There's nothing like flying with your dragon. And I do need her sass on occasion, though maybe not as much as she likes to give it. And hey, you don't look too old, you could try to get your own dragon. There are eggs on the sands here, and recent flights in other weyrs. Very recent flights. You could throw everything away to become a candidate. If you manage to impress you can sometimes get your life back after you graduate. Parts of it anyway."

Je'ler shook his head at the mention of the weather, but avoided commenting any further since he'd already worn out Isper with all of his complaints about it. He didn't want to just do that to his new harper acquaintance. Especially not after she'd given him such a nice song.

The mention of making a new flask made him grin again and he pulled out his special one that was currently holding the dry blueberry mead he was experimenting with. It was part of the commission he'd gotten from Caz, and he still enjoyed the custom decorative stitching on it. "I know a guy for leather. Girl? I think it was the sister that made these... pretty sure. She was dressed up as her brother when she impressed, and I think she was also dressed up as him before that making some of the leather stuff. He hasn't made much since then, but she definitely has. Cazan of gold Malvayth, she's in Fort."

"Maybe I will," Meryem said in a soft, quiet voice, honestly giving it thought. "It's not really throwing it away if you intend to do more later."

There were eggs on the Sands, yet one more reason to compel her to switch her track. It was tempting but then what were they to do for a Harper? It felt like cheating. Meryem set her gitar back into its case with a soft hum as she worked on unbraiding her hair. Was it possible that she could ride a dragon? Yes, well, plenty would have said she had all sorts of references of people who had been Searched and Impressed when they thought that was an absurd idea. Some dragons had even found their lifemates in the attendees of their Hatching.

"Knowing a good leathercrafter is always lovely," she said with a nod. "That sounds like it was quite the Impression, then. A pity I missed it. Knowing me, I was buried under instrument repair and Hal duties at the time. I do remember some mention of it. I'll take note of her name, then."

Je'ler gave a small shrug as he took another drink before tucking his flask back into his jacket for good (for the moment). "It's easiest to just say that everything changes after you impress. Some people don't like how that sounds." Or in his case, they didn't care. He hadn't even cared after impression, not until after his negligence made Isper sick. He knew she wasn't mad at him about that long past hiccup in their life, and the soft soothing shush in the back of his mind served as a soft reminder of that, but he still didn't have to like it. You can make it up to me by finding a nice person to settle down with. Maybe giving me some babies to dote on. You don't even care about babies. I would care about your babies.

And thus the moment was ruined and Je'ler no longer felt any remorse whatsoever. He shook his head and turned back to Meryem. "But yeah, Cazan is good. Not sure how busy she'll be, but if you ever end up in Fort and you need something made I'd recommend stopping by to see her, especially if you go to the Gather. And speaking of that, I need to get a few more things ready back home before I can go. Thank you again for the song, I'll bring you that bottle next time I swing by, or I can give it to you at the Gather if I see you." He got up to pull on his jacket and paused. "You were planning on going to the Gather right?"

"I haven't been to a Gather in ages," she said with a soft huff of a laugh. "I suppose I shall go." Meryem smiled but is was small and thoughtful. Dyed leathers for projects would be wonderful as would any items. She would, indeed, look up Goldrider Cazan.

"Well, if you're off, good flying to you and yours. It was lovely to meet you, Je'ler." She included his dragon in it because she'd never met a dragon she didn't respect. "I have a quick unpacking to do ad then I suppose I have to check in with the Weyrwoman and tell her I haven't frozen to bits trying to find her."

"Not as lovely as it was to meet you," Je'ler said with a smile as he finished buttoning his jacket closed. "You take care in this weather, don't freeze to death before I can get you that bottle of wine. Maybe I'll see you at the Gather." With one more grin he gave her a wave and headed back out, humming his new little riding tune.

Let's get out of this cold and back home, Isper. He braced himself for the teasing as he heard Isper's voice softly inquire, Awe, not going to spend more time with your new friend? You seemed like you were getting along so well! She has to settle in and we have to get ready for the Gather. I've got some shopping to do. You should bring her a flower next time with the wine. And there it was. One friendly interaction and his dragon was already getting ideas. Oh no you don't. You're going to stop that right this instant or I'm going to sing this new song I learned at you very, very loudly.

It wasn't much of a threat and Isper only responded with laughter as she went to pick up her rider. After a quick check to make sure Fetch had gotten all of the wine moved, Je'ler mounted up and strapped himself in before belting out the new song at the top of his lungs, and terribly off key.
