The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! They were finally allowed to move into their own weyrs! Madiquel was ecstatic! It wasn’t that she didn’t love the boys – she did – but she had never had her own home before, never even thought about it! It had taken a little bit to get used to, really, just the idea. She had subconsciously thought she’d be moving back in with her Papa once she finished Weyrlinghood, if she didn’t move back to the Healer Hall (and she did still plan to take up her education once more). But when the Weyrlingmaster told them they’d be able to pick from a selection of unoccupied weyrs, Madiquel had realised she was going to be a real dragonrider… an adult. Oh Faranth she didn’t feel like an adult at all!

But, none the less, she and Zezeth had gone around and picked out a weyr they liked the look of. While they still weren’t flying on their dragons (yada yada, blah blah, too small, too weak, blah blah) they were at least riding them on the ground (officially) and while they’d have to walk to and from their weyrs, the dragons at least could come and go aerially. Which was good, right? Plus visitors could do the same! Madiquel was so excited! She had made sure that her choice of weyr included enough room for at Xyxyth to join Zezeth. If they could both fit, than any of her other friends’ dragons certainly would!

While there had been plenty of offers to help her move from friends, Madiquel was rather a private girl, and she’d opted to pack her belongings alone, and most likely unpack them to. The exception was A’tay, who had offered to pick up some of the furniture Madiquel had purchased from the Hold. Xyxyth would be running trips to unload all the bulky furniture – bedroom and living area items – and Madiquel had set aside several hours over the course of the week to make some new oil up for Xyxyth, and weave a pretty leather bracelet for A’tay in thanks.

With the last wooden crate filled with her clothing, Madiquel took one last look around the room that had been her own since Zezeth claimed her, and smiled as she walked out the door. She paused, taking the nameplate off the entrance; it was the one A’tay had originally carved for her, and while he’d offered to make her a ‘better’ one, Madiquel would have none of it. She set it on top of the folded clothing, and carried it out to Zezeth. The young green dragon took the box and took flight, making her way to the weyr they’d claimed as their own. It wasn’t too far, as Madiquel had no desire to make her Papa climb too many flights of stairs to come visit her. Madiquel watched her dragon with a smile, before darting out to the halls, waving at the boys as she passed them.

Charging into her weyr with gusto, Madiquel bounced to the dragon ledge, finding Zezeth there, the box to one side with the neat pile of companions. Clapping her hands once, Madiquel pounced on the most recent addition, plucking her name plate from the top of it and dancing back out to her door to put it on the wood, in a place of honour at just above eye level where it proudly displayed her name. “I just need one with your name, Zee!” she said cheerfully, re-joining her dragon and waving enthusiastically when she saw Xyxyth approaching.

Excited chittering announced Clover, who dived in and swirled around Madiquel’s head before landing on her shoulder, tail twining around her human’s neck. Madiquel gave her a gentle scratch on the eyeridge, and beamed at A’tay as he dismounted. “Is that the last of it?” she asked, excited, hands clasped as she balanced on her toes. “Thank you!” she added, darting in and pressing a kiss against A’tay’s cheek – she flushed when she found it scruffy – but skipped off again before she could make the situation awkward with her silly girliness. Her arms were spread wide as she twirled in a circle, head thrown back and watching the stone ceiling as she spun.

Steadying herself after a couple of circles, Madiquel beamed at A’tay, her eyes slightly dizzy. “I’m so glad we don’t have to build our homes any more,” she giggled, dropping her arms, still grinning happily. Her weyr was hardly large by standards, but it was a lot bigger than her single room in their makeshift ‘barracks’, and it was bigger than the weyr her father had claimed for them to share in Fort. Madiquel knew it was probably bigger than most greenriders could expect, but not by a great deal; she had a feeling she was allowed the two-bedroom weyr so her father could stay with her sometimes, without having to sleep in the living room. Madiquel appreciated that.

“Do you want to help me set up?” Madiquel asked, expression curious and hopeful. A’tay had great sense of style in Madiquel’s opinion, and she was sure he’d be great help in putting things where they’d make the most sense!

A'tay recalled the day they got to move into their own weyrs. Of course that was only about a year ago so it wasn't too hard to do. Still, it had been exciting and even a bit nerve wracking since it would be his first time living alone. He'd lived with his mom and little sister in Telgar Weyr and every time he Stood at another Weyr, he was always in the barracks. And then he Impressed and was in a whole new barracks so moving into senior weyrlinghood and getting his own place was strange. Though, he wasn't really alone since he had Xyxyth with him.

They had chosen a modest sized weyr given the colour of his dragon's hide. A'tay didn't care too much about the space he would have but cared more about Xyxyth having enough. The bronze liked the size of his den and deemed the ledge worthy based on the sun it would catch throughout the day and still large enough to have a friend visit. It was perfect--for what he thought would be a short term arrangement. The plan had been to transfer to Fort upon graduating so he could be closer to Madiquel as she studied in Healer Hall and help keep an eye on Jajojin. Since she Impressed accidentally at Ista and her papa found his way there as well, A'tay decided to stay and still didn't find any faults in his little weyr.

Madiquel's choice of weyr had surprised him. Well, sort of. He assumed the two bedrooms was selected so her father could live with her but she said it was in case he stayed while visiting. Did she think he was going to return to Fort or maybe the walk between her weyr and his own would be too great for him after a visit? He was a bit confused but didn't question it. Madiquel knew her papa better than anyone else and maybe there would be times that he needed to stay because he was having a bad time.

When she asked him to help pick up items she had ordered in the Hold, A'tay happily agreed. She was a friend in need of help and it simply made him feel useful and got him out of the Weyr for a bit. It was odd not having much to do and he blamed it on Xyxyth's hide. No one asked him to run errands, though he had been asked a couple of times if he could ferry around a lord that wanted a bronze. He probably wasn't happy that he got such a young one but at least he got his bronze!

Shadow popped in several feet from them as they descended to Madiquel's weyr. The chubby blue firelizard was usually close behind and that day was no different as Shadow accompanied them on every trip to the Hold. He was a nosy fellow and also good at begging and managed to snag a few snacks out of charmed holders, much to A'tay's chagrin.

When they landed, Xyxyth greeted Zezeth, again, since it was her ledge and he was visiting despite them having been back and forth several times. His dragon was nothing if not polite, it seemed. "It is! I think it might be the heaviest piece but we should be able to move it together," he laughed, having said that at the same time Madiquel asked if he wanted to help set up. He supposed that answered her question and he quickly got down from Xyxyth's back to examine the haul.

He had debated moving each piece in as soon as they brought it up but ended up thinking it would be best to have Madiquel see everything and get an idea of where she wanted it. He had always planned on helping her move the furniture in since he wasn't going to let her move it on her own! Truthfully, he wanted to call in T'ryn to help him while Madiquel supervised but he knew that gleam in her eyes well enough to know she was looking forward to getting her hands dirty and doing it herself.

"We should start with the bedroom since we brought those up first so they're closer to the entrance and that means we won't have to work around the living room set up." He was pretty proud of himself for not blushing at the idea of being in her bedroom. But then, he had been in her room and hanging out on her bed so many times growing up that it really shouldn't have been a big deal. In the height of his crush, maybe it would have, but he had spent the last several months working hard to move on when he finally got the clue that Madiquel wasn't interested. Now, he focused on how a bed was just a bed and Madiquel was just his best friend and he was excited to help her set up her perfect home.

Madiquel laughed when they spoke at once, and then nodded sagely at the suggestion A’tay led with. “That makes sense,” Madiquel said, flashing a smile and following A’tay over to the collection of furniture that had been shoved against the side of Zezeth’s den and into the entrance of the main weyr. Most of the pieces of furniture were large, but in pieces designed to be slotted together. Madiquel was fairly certain the pair of them could handle it, between their dragonrider muscles. Grinning, she turned to look at A’tay, lifting her arms to flex her biceps. “I think most of our training was preparing us for manual labour of moving!” She laughed, and moved to the bed. “I guess we should start with the bed? It’s the biggest and going to be the easiest to work around.”

Smiling at A’tay, Madiquel took one end of the first piece, and they spent what felt like several hours juggling the pieces into what was going to be her bedroom, joking and teasing as they set up the bed and bedside tables, rugs on the floor, tapestries allocated to portions of the wall – she’d have to get someone to come in and bash some hooks into the stone wall later, since neither had thought of it for that day – and Madiquel threw her bedding into a mound on her bed, to be dealt with later. Standing in the doorway with A’tay beside her, Madiquel surveyed her new bedroom with her hands on her hips, before nodding in satisfaction and spinning around to hug her friend. “Wonderful!” She gushed, giving him a squeeze and then darting under his arm once he’d let her go.

“I guess we should do the guest room next?” She asked, turning to look at A’tay, “or a break?” she was down for that, too! Maybe that would be best! “I had some food and drinks brought up before, while you and Xyxyth were bringing things in for us,” she smiled warmly, and grabbed A’tay’s hand to drag him into the little kitchen area. It wasn’t much, or impressive, because Madiquel wasn’t inclined to cooking and enjoyed socialising enough that she’d spend most of her time eating in the Hall. But on one of the benches was a tray, with juice, a couple of glasses, and a platter of assorted snack foods. Giving A’tay’s hand a squeeze, Madiquel dropped it and set about pouring them both a drink, and handing one to her friend.

A'tay was thankful for the break and the juice. He wasn't sure how long they had been setting up the bedroom but Ista was already moving into their hot months and moving around the furniture was turning into quite the sweaty exercise. He gulped down half of the juice before giving a grateful sigh, already feeling a tad more refreshed already. He nodded at the idea to do the other bedroom next but it could wait a few more minutes as they enjoyed the snack that had been brought up. Not knowing the hour, but suspecting it was late in the day given the time they started hauling items up, A'tay had a feeling this was going to end up being their dinner. He'd try to make sure they got down to the Dining Cavern before everything was packed up for the night, though.

After snacking and chatting, the moving began again. The spare room was a lot quicker since it didn't have much to go in and was a smaller room on the whole. The living area was where the real fun began as the larger items were brought in and the ideas for how to set the room began. A'tay had no idea why Madiquel put so much faith in him when it came to style and decorating but it was a nice confidence booster even as it put a lot of pressure on him. He didn't want to leave her with something nonfunctional or that she absolutely hated but their spirits were both still high and laughter sounded every time they tried the couch in a new position before it ended back in the original spot.

At one point, Xyxyth pointed out the time, causing A'tay to check the sun's position when he was on the ledge to grab a table. He knew his earlier thoughts of getting them to break and get dinner would interrupt the flow and he didn't want to leave Madiquel with anything left undone. So he had Xyxyth ask Syrendryth if T'ryn could bring some food by if he was free. He could have asked for a drudge to do that but everyone would be busy running dinner that he didn't want them running around the Weyr for him. Brothers ere fair game, though.

The knock came when they were unrolling a rug and A'tay jumped up to get the door. There stood T'ryn and Mylorah--likely hijacked on the way and too nice to say no--each carrying some plates. "Dinner's here!" He called to Madiquel with a laugh, taking a couple of the plates and setting them on the kitchen counter before getting the other two. He heard his siblings promise to visit her soon so they could get the full tour once everything was done and he waved as they departed.

"I didn't want to risk you missing a meal so I asked T'ryn to bring something up," he explained, going back to straighten the now unraveled rug. "I wasn't sure we would finish in time, though I think we would have. But, we won't tell them!" He laughed again, smiling at Madiquel and then surveying the room once more. He thought it looked pretty good!
