It had only been a handful of hours since she left Fort Weyr, leaving Kor'is and Cazan behind after having their fun picnic but she already missed them. She wished they had Impressed at Ista, but even then, she knew their dragons were still too young to be left alone for a length of time and Malvayth would likely drive half of her friends insane if she attended the party. They would just have to keep in touch and Mylorah vowed to visit them again in the near future.

They hadn't returned directly to Ista Weyr after the picnic, first having to make a stop at Tillek Hold to kidnap the second son for the night. She still wasn't entirely sure how Tazikel's family felt about him spending so much time at a Weyr or what they really thought about her but Mylorah also didn't care since Tazikel still smiled when he saw her and still had fun on their adventures.

With the lordling in hand, Mylorah took over T'ryn's weyr, bringing in the snacks and drinks--including Tillek wine courtesy of Tazikel-- and telling him all about the picnic while her brother tidied up his desk and brought in a few more chairs swiped from friends. Most of the party attendees were Katila brats so sitting on the floor wouldn't bother any of them, especially since they could lounge around however they wanted, but Mylorah appreciated the gesture and was okay with having more seating options.

By the time her friends started to arrive, Mylorah was curled up on the couch with Tazikel, nibbling on some dried fruit. She had changed into the new dress T'ryn bought for her as it seemed to be a thing now for the two blonde Ts in her life to buy her clothes. She didn't really mind since they all knew she'd never go buy clothes for herself and at least T'ryn knew her every day style well enough to buy her something she'd likely wear outside of fancy parties, though this one was probably more for gathers than just prancing around the Weyr. Her new dress was a beautiful lavender, came just above the knee with tank top-esque sleeves (she didn't know the proper term for those), and had a vertical ruching and a flattering empire waist--or so T'ryn told her though neither of them would have known what that meant without looking at the dress. It was so very much T'ryn for him to remember the technical terms and likely look into it further sometime if his curiosity was piqued enough.

She chatted with the early arrivals, making sure Tazikel felt included and was comfortable. She knew how overwhelmed she was every time he brought her to a party or dinner and while this was a lot less grand and her friends a lot less imposing, Mylorah wondered if it still felt like he was out of his element since it was such a different vibe. He seemed to be doing well so far, which was why she didn't feel guilty when she kissed his cheek and excused herself to go greet another arrival. She'd work her way back to him eventually but Mylorah wanted to visit with all of her friends as well, especially since at least one of them would likely try to leave early.

She wasn't surprised to see F'drel as one of the earlier arrivals. No doubt he thought he could sneak in and then back out again before any crazy antics started. Whether or not that was the case, Mylorah was just happy F'drel showed up and she skipped over to him, giving him a kiss to his cheek in greeting. "Thank you for coming! I feel like we haven't seen each other in ages." She took his hand and gave it a little playful tug, "come and sit so we can catch up. Do you want some wine? Or a snack? I baked the cookies but C'dhin dropped off cupcakes earlier, and then there's healthy snacks as well."

It may have been a party, but F’drel was not enjoying himself. He didn’t enjoy parties as a rule, really. Had to work at too many of them growing up, and now he couldn’t help noticing things like cups left on side tables that really should be moved or how whatever food platter was almost empty and should be refilled or put away. And then he wouldn’t be able to stop noticing those things, but they weren’t his parties so he wasn’t allowed to interfere with such things, so F’drel just ended up twitchy the entire time.

In addition to that, Miri was likely going to Fly sometime in the next week if the past two turns were any indication (even if so far she liked not having a particularly predictable schedule, including adding an entire extra Flight). All it meant was that F’drel was even more on edge than usual, paying extra close attention to everything she did. It would be just her idea of fun to Fly in the middle of Mylorah’s party, but hopefully her preference for Flying during the day would win out in this case. Because if not, F’drel was never going to a fucking party again.

To top that all off, Mylorah had of course invited that Lordling she liked to the party. As if F’drel wasn’t uncomfortable enough without a lord there. He’d have to keep an eye on the man. Just in case.

After checking with Halomirth again that R’dal and Edath hadn’t shown up yet. F’drel resigned himself to having to deal with this party without his cheerful friend just about all interactions could be deflected to for a while longer. Joy of all joys.

There was a moment when Mylorah got up from where she was sitting with the Lordling to greet people and F’drel thought for a heartbeat she’d bring the man with her. If he’d had to talk to a lord right then F’drel might have just left. But no, it was just Mylorah, who he could usually interact with without issue.

F’drel shook his head at her offer for drinks or food. He still didn’t drink much, and a party setting with a lord when Miri could Fly at any time was absolutely the worst time he could think of to start. “I’ll try some of your cookies later,” he allowed, not feeling up to eating anything in the moment. But she’d made them, and so he was obligated to at least try one at some point. F’drel didn’t give in to the light tugging either, not sure where Mylorah wanted him to come sit. If she was going back to the couch with the Lordling, F’drel didn’t really want to go with her. He still needed to learn more about the man, yes, but F’drel didn’t think the current moment was the best for it. He was a bit too distracted and on edge for the proper scrutiny any lord who was so intent on spending time with Mylorah deserved.

Mylorah frowned when F'drel didn't seem to want to budge from where he stood and she sighed at him. "Or we can stand here and talk as well." She knew how uncomfortable he was around too many people, especially ones he didn't know well or liked that much, so it wasn't like she was going to drag him over to some of the others. She definitely wasn't going to bring him to Tazikel knowing how much F'drel seemed to hate lords. While she would have loved to have the two actually talk and F'drel to find out Tazikel was kind and not at all as evil as believed, she wasn't going to push that on him. She just hoped the watchful eye F'drel would likely have on Tazikel while he was there would show her favourite holder wasn't so bad.

"Sitting or standing, cookies or none... I want you to be comfortable, happy even. So you don't even have to stay long, I promise I won't take offense if you leave in two minutes. You showing up at all means everything to me." Mylorah smiled up at F'drel, still holding onto his hand as if scared he would bolt sooner than expected otherwise. She had an army of younger siblings but only Korlin was older and while they were close, he didn't really hang out with her half-siblings or some of their friends so it was nice having someone else looking out for her. Even if F'drel took it to the extreme sometimes and tried his best to dissuade her from seeing Tazikel.

That said, she always wondered who looked after F'drel so despite being younger, Mylorah often tried to play big sister to him as well. "Have you been well?" He looked a bit tired and stressed and she hoped he was sleeping and drinking more than just klah but she didn't point any of that out as annoying him wasn't the goal.

“I’m well enough,” F’drel told her, trying to sound reassuring. He squeezed her hand lightly when the words didn’t seem to be sufficient in convincing her. Other than the impending Flight, there wasn’t that much going on in his life just then. His sisters had adjusted to Weyr life quickly, and had made their own friends. They didn’t need his constant presence - though F’drel always made sure to know who they were spending time with and did his best to dissuade them from the more questionable choices. Sometimes they listened. Still, they hadn’t befriended anyone as questionable as Mylorah’s lordling, so that was something of a relief to him. Troublesome little sisters, indeed.

He sighed and pulled Mylorah into a gentle hug. “Happy birthday,” he told her. The evening was about Mylorah, not him, and F’drel would much rather redirect the conversation to her. Miri’s Flights were too dangerous a conversation topic, especially considering there were now two of her family members who’d won them. And while leaving in two minutes was tempting, F’drel felt that wasn’t quite a sufficient attendance even if she said it was. Besides, he didn’t want to deal with R’dal’s sad-but-understanding face if the bluerider showed up and he’d already fled the party. It would also give him an opportunity to keep an eye on the lordling. So he was going to stay and talk to Mylorah - even if he had no idea where to take the conversation other than ‘not me.’

Some of the men in her life really needed to work on their conversational skills or at least realise it was okay to talk about themselves sometimes. Mylorah accepted the light hug with the birthday greeting that she knew was F'drel's attempt to avoid further talking about himself. If they were alone, she may have pressed him a bit more but given their surroundings and the hint she felt was hidden in the 'happy birthday' meaning 'this is your night so let's not talk about me' Mylorah smiled as she stepped back and gave a little twirl to show off the dress.

"From T'ryn. I swear that boy either thinks I can't dress myself or doesn't like what I own," she honestly loved what T'ryn picked out for and he didn't do it regularly so she was just playfully picking on her brother to get a conversation going that wasn't about F'drel. She also made sure not to mention Tazikel and his own enjoyment of playing dress up with her. She knew it was out of necessity as she didn't have proper clothes for Hold parties but she also knew F'drel would view it as controlling her or trying to change her.

She babbled a bit more about what she'd been up to recently and even about her trip to Fort Weyr earlier that day. Knowing how much Quinvalis meant to F'drel, she had even stopped in to check up on the boy so she could relay any updates or messages. R'dal lived in Fort and F'drel likely went there regularly himself so such a thing wasn't needed but Mylorah hated that she didn't really know someone so important to her friends and wanted to spend a bit of time with Quinvalis as well.

She was about to try dragging him over for a cookie again when R'dal appeared and Mylorah's smile brightened. "Your not-boyfriend just arrived. Go hang out with him. I'll swing by again later if you're still here. Don't feel guilty if you leave before that happens." She gave F'drel another kiss to the cheek before heading over to R'dal to give him a hug, point out a few things, and then give him a nudge towards F'drel before she continued her dance around the room to where Sh'ran was seated.

Knowing Dyoricath wasn't too far away but had also calmed down a bit, Mylorah chanced it and sat in Sh'ran's lap, swinging her legs around to drape over the arm of the chair, and curled up against her friend. "I missed you, Mimi," she pouted, even though they saw each other regularly. It just wasn't the same since the gossip had to be censored and they couldn't cuddle up like they used to. "Kordi actually showed some emotion and confessed to missing you as well. He also said he misses the silence from not being bonded but really, did he ever truly have that with you around?" She laughed as she teased her talkative friend but it was something she loved about Sh'ran.

Sh’ran was delighted to be at Mylorah’s birthday party. Weyrlinghood had meant he - and his fellow Weyrlings, but he and Dyoricath especially - hadn’t spent much time at social events. Which he loved, so being surrounded by people again was amazing. He and Dyoricath had started reaching some sort of equilibrium with regard to Misha spending more time with people, but he didn’t want to push it too much. Which was why he hadn’t gone over to introduce himself to Mylorah’s lord friend yet, but he’d get around to it by the end of the night. Instead Sh’ran had been sampling all the snacks - he could tell which ones Mylorah had baked and which ones C’dhin had without being told. He wasn’t sure if that meant he had a discerning palate or he ate too much of C’dhin’s baking. It didn’t take long to try everything, and by the time Mylorah draped herself over him Sh’ran had tried all the snacks.

“Mymy,” he greeted, wrapping his arms around her. Dyoricath pointedly ignored them in the back of his mind, which Sh’ran appreciated. The blue’s birthday present to Mylorah. “Kordi felt an emotion for me? I could cry at the honor,” he said dramatically, placing one hand at the base of his throat. “I do get what he means, though. It’s a different kind of silence. I may be chatty, but I’m not a presence in his head like that. I think Dyo might have murdered him months ago if I were.” Misha hummed thoughtfully, resting his cheek against Mylorah’s head. “I’ll be delighted to chatter at him incessantly again as soon as one of us can go to other Weyrs, give him a lack of silence he’s used to.”

“Anyway,” Sh’ran said, changing the topic, “How’s your pretty lordling doing so far? Surviving all the noisy, partying weyrfolk?” He glanced over at Tazikel, who seemed to be having a conversation with T’ryn, though the lordling’s eyes kept flickering around the room. Interesting. “I hope to meet him properly later. Dyoricath allowing,” he ammended.

Mylorah nodded, but she didn't truly know what it was like to have a dragon living in her mind all the time. Sure, she got a taste of it when a dragon bespoke her, but they didn't usually linger and she suspected it would be vastly different when it was her own dragon and she was always aware of their presence. A part of her worried about it and nudged her into giving up on Standing. She valued her privacy when she was in need of it and having someone know all of her deepest thoughts and emotions kind of scared her. But if Kor'is had already made it through a month, she figured she could handle it as well and learn to adapt.

"Looks like he's surviving. T'ryn's a good buffer between Weyr and Hold," Mylorah smiled at the sight and loved how her friends all wanted to know more about him but were only slowly circling in closer. They probably didn't want to overwhelm him, or they just didn't want to be the first one and seem too eager to know him. "I'll make sure you get some time with him before he leaves in case he ends up swarmed." No way would she let Tazikel go home before he got to meet her bestie. She had met some of Tazikel's friends and family and while he had met her insane family, Mylorah was happy he had wanted to come to the party and meet her friends. She was also extremely confident they would all get along--she wouldn't really allow it to happen any other way, honestly.

"What do you think of him? I want your pre- and post-interview analysis." It was already a skewered test since Sh'ran knew pretty much everything about Tazikel that she had shared with him but Mylorah was curious to see what his take was from just looking at him before getting to speak with him. "If I was interested in being a Lady and the wife to a second son, think he'd be worth the commitment?" Not only did she not want to be a Lady, Mylorah didn't have any intention of marriage in Hold or Weyr definition. Way too many complex emotions and rules. The fact that Tazikel seemed to feel the same way and had never brought up such a crazy idea made their hanging out even more relaxed and fun.

“First impressions? I think you’d be much better off as his mistress than his wife,” Sh’ran said dryly, eyeing up the lordling. “If you were a Lady, I’d say he’d do quite nicely as a husband. Pretty, not so high up the social ladder you’d have real responsibilities, but not so low that you wouldn’t be living in style, and from what you’ve said I’m sure he’d be fairly attentive to his wife. But you’d have to put up with being a Lady to do so, which no, gross. Holder rules are dull, especially for Ladies.” Misha shrugged, considering Tazikel again. There was something about the way he was interacting with T’ryn that was setting off little bells in the back of his head (especially given Tazikel may-or-may-not have kissed Kordi at Turn’s End), but Sh’ran ignored them for the moment. Dyoricath’s shrieking had the unintentional side effect of increasing his tolerance for mental noise exponentially.

“Why are you asking about if he’s worth commitment or whatever?” he asked. “He hasn’t asked you to marry him or anything, has he? In which case you say fuck no, and if he insists you dump him. But that doesn’t seem to fit with what you’ve said and the sense I get of him, so I doubt that. Thank fuck, because he’s too pretty to be invested in marriage.” Misha had some complicated thoughts on marriage, if he were being honest. He didn’t love the whole ‘be with this one person exclusively forever’ deal, though he did very much like the part that was about being with someone in a more significant way than they were with others. It was the exclusive part Sh’ran was less fond of (Dyoricath, conversely, thought the idea of marriage was excellent, but he was a possessive bitch and totally would think that sort of exclusivity was fantastic). Thinking about it was too complicated. Sh’ran didn’t give a fuck if he was a little contradictory sometimes. He could still tell being a Lady would suck and Tazikel should be shared for the good of the community.

She didn't say it but Mylorah was relieved to hear that Sh'ran still didn't think she would be a good Lady. She didn't regret her time spent with Tazikel but she did wonder if so much time in Holds and with the boring lords had corrupted her some how. Luckily, she passed the test and kissed Sh'ran's cheek for honest reply.

Then she laughed at his questions and comments about marriage. "No, thank goodness! I doubt he would either. Well," she amended a moment later as a fun thought struck her, "maybe as a joke since we do play around a lot. But I'm pretty much the opposite of what his parents want for him. Weyr whore, wild jungle girl, the usual." Mylorah rolled her eyes but it didn't bother her. She kind of was both of those things and she knew their worlds were very different.

"Anyway, I'm not sure why I asked. He doesn't want to be married off and I'm certainly not looking to settle down with just one man. Three or maybe even two, however..." she laughed as she referenced her Turn's End, knowing Sh'ran would pick up on it. Honestly, that didn't sound too bad. If she had to settle down, maybe to appease her hypothetical dragon, she could bargain for two steady lovers.
