Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

[[Update slowly in progress because ThistleProse is a slackarse :3 lmao ]]

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 03, 740 AL

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are getting a lot of rain, thunderstorms, and cloudy days. Grass is growing, flowers flowering, and baby animals popping up all over the place! Yay spring!

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

This month we will also be focusing on the RP Records, and request you submit all your threads here so we can update the Timeline! As it says in the thread, the Timeline will be updated every month, in the first week. To help us maintain, be sure to submit your threads as soon as you open them!

November 2017

Welcome to November! We'd love it if you would take the time to Vote in our Horrifying Moments threads! We will also be awarding Stamps for people who vote, not just those who took part! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did! You can see the Stamps that will be awarded in the Horrifying Moment's thread.

This month we are doing a 'Words of the Month' event! You can choose your word/s as indicated in the thread, and may particpate with as many characters as you desire! This contest has no voting to earn stamps; you get a stamp just for participating! Enjoy!

October 2017

Welcome to October! As part of our Halloween celebrations, the Horrifying Moments event is now open! You may START a thread at any point during the month of October to qualify it for the event! We hope you have a lot of fun with this event, and we look forward to reading your threads! Don't forget to "Like" the threads you enjoy most, so we can award someone the MOST HORRIFYING stamp! September 2017

Welcome to September! This month, we're working on our Awards for the site! We are also advertising avidly! Please welcome any guests or new members with all that warm charm we know you all posess! That said, we are still seeking Affiliates, so if you're here to drop an ad, please consider us!

Our next PC Clutch will be in the new year, so now is the pefect time to join with old candidates (how many clutches have they stood for now?!) and candidate hopefuls! Get those eager young men and women out there and grow them so we can match them with their perfect lifemate when the new year rolls around and one of our lovely golds throws a clutch on the Sands -- At this point in time, the Weyrs are sharing Candidates, so your Candidate can be Searched by any Weyr, and transfer to the one holding the PC clutch!

August 2017

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in the Cbox or Discord chats, which can be found on the lower part of the screen.

July 2017

We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

June 2017

We are on the brink of relaunching! Our history is being rewritten and cleaned up! We are accepting new members, and old! Our advertisment has been re-written, and will be put out there soon. We are also accepting affiliates of all descriptions, genres and themes! If you would like to affiliate with us, please go here
We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

Important Details

Original Name: Sithulaire
      Pronounced: Sith-oo-lair
Honorific: S'laire
      Pronounced: Suh-lair
Nicknames: His name's pretty short already, and he doesn't see much point in shortening his already dragon-shortened name, but occasionally there's a person who can get away with calling him Sith.

      Physical Age: 25

Appearance

Eyes: Sithulaire is blessed with a striking pair of intense, dark blue eyes. He has a heavy brow, which tends to leave him looking a little more sinister, more intense than he necessarily intends to be.

Hair: Dark brown and straight as a bone. The length tends to vary depending on the rest of his life; as a Weyrling, when most of his focus was going towards figuring out how to function in harmony with Luxilth, it tended towards too long, but now that he's not half-manic it's a slightly more manageable shoulder-length. Occasionally it'll be tied back with a leather thong, but he usually prefers to let it hang loose, give him the opportunity to hide behind it when he doesn't trust his expression.

Height: 5'9"

General Appearance: Sithulaire is not among the tallest of men; strictly average even for a woman, in fact. He's compact, but not bulky with it; he has plenty of muscle but wears it well. As a child he spent his time working the fields of Fort Hold with his mother when he could, and the manual labor didn't stop when he joined the Harper Hall. It changed, of course, and there was a certain amount of sedentary work to be done as well, but he made up for that with jogging and other acts of physical labor when not doing...any of that. Of course, that was made relatively easy when he came to Katila, where manual labor was more or less the name of the game.

Before Katila, when he had...a reputation to uphold, a family beginning to grow, he was mostly clean-shaven, and his hair was generally shorter by several inches than it is now. Katila made for an environment where Sithulaire's facial hair and the length of the rest of the hair on his head was not a priority. So he let it grow, to a point, and found that he rather liked the scruff and the longer hair, so he let it remain even as time allowed for him to cut it all off.

Sithulaire doesn't bear many scars, and most of them are relatively minor; deep papercuts on his hands and arms that leave silver lines in their place in the years that follow.

Dressing Style: S'laire toes the line between messy and unkempt with startling grace. His clothing is well-kept, but it's intended to be worked in, so he doesn't fuss too much over the aesthetic appearance of his wardrobe. If it works, if it does its job, that's more than enough for him. Mostly neutral colors, grays and browns and forest greens, though he's certainly been known to throw a complimentary color in every once in a while.

Personality

General Character Traits: Quiet and observant are two words that describe Sithulaire well. He's never been the type to rush into anything without at least weighing his options first. It makes for a good match between him and his dragon, as neither of them are brash enough or foolish enough to get themselves into too much trouble. Of course, emotions are emotions, and they do tend to get in the way more often than Sithulaire would care to admit. Luxilth is frankly the more observant of the two, but S'laire thinks that that might be because people take the dragon's animalistic looks for granted. Eyes will glide right over his attention without even noticing it, which makes it much easier for the dragon to gather information than the man.

Of course, S'laire has developed his own habits revolving around that. It's part of the reason behind his longer hair, even if S'laire doesn't realize that quite yet in hindsight. He takes advantage of peoples' assumptions about him, generally on the negative side due to his less-than-strictly-friendly appearance. It served him well when he was only interested in not making a reputation for himself upon first arriving in Katila, and he's been fairly content to allow said reputation to remain even after Impressing and becoming somewhat more involved in the daily routine of being a dragonrider.

On the flip-side, however, once an individual manages to get past S'laire's slightly prickly, but somehow still perfectly civil, outer shell--not to mention the judgemental opinions of his dragon--they'll usualy find an exceptionally pleasant fellow to interact with. He has a surprisingly wry sense of humor once the outer shell of deadpan has been worn away.

Habits/Mannerisms: S'laire has a habit of hiding behind his hair when he's trying to eye people up without being noticed. He's gotten good at it in the past handful of Turns, but even he gets caught out every once in a while.

No one's had the nerve yet to tell him that it's usually his dragon that rats him out.

Opinions:
Threadfall Theory: Even after everything, Threadfall is such a foreign concept to him that it's difficult to put too much thought into it. If pressed he would likely say that there was all the evidence pointing to it coming again, but his darker side hopes he's not around to see it.
Stealing/Kidnapping: For obvious reasons, S'laire has a few choice words for the memory of Tsuen and her decision to have the dragonriders steal people from the North. He understands it, sure. Doesn't mean he has to like it.
Weryrleader S'kef: While Sithulaire tried his best to stay out of the politics of the Weyr, it was impossible to not pay attention when the Weyrleader was poisoned and a brownrider took the position. He never met the man in person, but he certainly heard a lot about him and his opinion was largely colored by the lower ranks of riders and non-riderfolk. So mostly negative, but in a quiet, inwards sort of way?
Firelizards: Basically neutral. He had a passing interest of trying to get himself one, but beyond actively pursuing the notion there wasn't much hope of actually getting his hands on a firelizard, and the workaholic part of him said that a firelizard was simply too much trouble.
Women's loss of honourifics: Sithulaire doesn't really think he has a place to have much of an opinion, but he also doesn't see much of a difference between the female chromatic riders and the male chromatics. Why shouldn't they be allowed to have honorifics?
Return North: S'laire had been anticipating the return North, hoping for it and praying it would happen, from the moment he arrived at Katila. He both feared and looked forward to the day he finally set foot on Northern soil again.

History

Father: Iosair, b.665, d.731
   Rank: Minor Holder
Mother: Sirina, b.689 d.722
   Rank: Farmer
Siblings: Female, Iona b. 707
Male, Nasair b. 709
Male, Khodehal b. 711

Past Lovers/Partners: Ivonen
Current Lovers/Partners: None consistent, and he doesn't make a habit of sleeping around, but...men have needs just as dragons do. It happens.
Children: Daughter, Ivonai, b. 724.
Son, Meinnair, b. 730, two days after Sithulaire is Stolen (17.2.730). Both are Ivonen's get.
Background Story:

705 & 0: Sithulaire is born to Sirina, a young woman who worked the farmlands outside Fort Hold, near Turn's End. His father was a minor holder who had little interest in the infant beyond the furthering of his lineage, though even that was somewhat questionable. Iosair was significantly older than Ivonen, and it was not an easy birth for her.
706 & 0-1: Sirina falls pregnant again early in the Turn, though she loses the baby in the summer. It's harder on her emotionally than it is physically, but that doesn't keep Iosair from raging against her for it. He never lays a hand on her, however; there's too much potential of hurting her reproductive capabilities. Sirina falls pregnant again following her next blood.
707-712 & 2-7: The next several Turns follow much the same pattern; for every child the not-quite-couple have, there's two or three miscarriages. By the time Sithulaire turns seven, he has three younger siblings; two brothers and a sister.
715 & 10: Sithulaire always dreamed of becoming a dragonhealer; dreams that were dashed with the onset of the Plague. He was too young at the time to truly understand the repercussions of the sickness, but the following Turn would make them all too clear.
718 & 13: His dreams bear somewhat lopsided fruit when Sithulaire is tapped for the Harper Hall. It doesn't take him long to find a calling there; while the dragons and their riders are only a part of Pern's history, they are a centerpoint and Sithulaire finds himself enjoying his time spent studying and learning.
719 & 14: Through the course of his work in the Harper Hall, Sithulaire becomes close friends with another Apprentice; a girl by the name of Ivonen. She hails from Telgar Hold, and they spend a lot of their free time exchanging stories of their homes and childhoods.
722 & 17: Sirina dies in childbirth along with the baby. For the first time it seems that Iosair has a heart; the almost violent expression of his grief is very different from Sithulaire's or his siblings', but there is not denying the honesty of it. Sithulaire spends a lot of time with Ivonen in the months following his mother's death, and it doesn't take long for their relationship to teeter over the edge of the cliff it had been balancing on for the last several Turns.
723 & 18: Sithulaire 'graduates' to a Junior Journeyman. It is not unexpected, but remains an exciting day for both him and Ivonen. Later in the Turn, Ivonen finds out that she is pregnant.
724 & 19: Ivonen gives birth to a little girl in the spring. They name her Ivolai.
Late 724-728 & 19-23: Life becomes a whirlwind of being a family man and doing his duty for the Harper Hall. He learns to sing, very pitchily, and almost figures out how to play the guitar. Ivonen has a lovely voice, and they make music together; both for the joy of simply doing, and for the pleasure of making their little girl laugh.
729 & 24: Ivonen comes up pregnant for the second time. It's both exciting and terrifying for the both of them
730 & 25: It is an entirely average day when a dragon descends from the sky and snatches Sithulaire from where he stands, perhaps a little too far away from the relative safety of the Harper Hall. There had been rumors going around, of course, of people disappearing, but Sithulaire had always chalked it up to gossips and overexaggeration. He never once pondered the thought that there was any validity to the rumors. Ivonen gives birth to their second child two days after Sithulaire disappears.
731 & 26: Sithulaire adjusts relatively well to his new life at Katila Weyr; there is always that bitterness that he wasn't given a choice in his coming here or even a chance to say goodbye to his family. He makes his fair share of friends and enemies, and feels distinctly out of place among his fellow 'Candidates'. He isn't the only older person present, but most of his agemates are in the same situation as him, not necessarily here by choice. It isn't hard to figure out that there had been a certain emphasis put on who the dragonriders were instructed to steal in their ventures north.
732 & 27: Much to his surprise, Sithulaire Impresses a blue dragon by the name of Luxilth. He'd almost begun to think that he wouldn't Impress anything before he aged out. A part of him hoped for that, with the naiive belief that he might be allowed to return to the north. Again, he is torn between excitement and sorrow; this was never the route his life was supposed to take. But it's impossible to not be affected by the event as a whole--or the fact that he now shares half his mind with another living creature.
733 & 28: Witnesses the execution of T'shiro of bronze Cucluith; He's tried his best to keep out of the politics of the Weyr until this point, but it's gotten progressively more and more difficult since he became part of those politics. While it's not a particularly emotional moment beyond the trauma Cuclith's departure leaves in his wake for Luxilth, it sticks with both of them. They both take part in their fair share of...extracurricular activities, though Sithulaire refrained from pursuing any sort of serious relationship as much as he could, still holding on to hope that someday he'd be reunited with Ivonen.
734 & 29: Graduation from Weyrlinghood, Sithulaire is given the honorific of S'laire. It takes some getting used to.
735 & 30: Return to the North; Sithulaire and Luxilth are among the first to return, the former being eager (and terrified) to return to what he once called home. His parents are both long dead, but he doesn't know a thing about Ivonen, Ivolai or the child he doesn't truly know was ever even born. As soon as he can realistically get away, S'laire and Luxilth make a beeline for Fort Hold, S'laire hoping against hope that Ivonen will still be there, still be alive. She is, and while she is happy to see him, S'laire is in for a somewhat rude awakening upon realizing that while his life of the past five Turns had been spent mostly looking backwards, Ivonen had moved on. Remarried, and even had a babe on her hip when S'laire found her.
736 & 31: S'laire makes another trip to Fort Hold in the months before Fort and Ista Weyrs are opened to the dragons again, this time to meet his children. Ivonai was old enough, barely, to have a vague recollection of who he was, and was rightfully delighted to see him. Meinnair, on the other hand, didn't have a clue, and while S'laire expected the trepidation with which the little boy regarded him, it still stung.
737 & 32: It takes a little longer to find word of his father; when he does, it's a moment that S'laire struggles with. He's informed that Iosair passed only a Turn after he himself had disappeared and been assumed dead. A part of him knows he should be sorry, should be mourning the loss of his father, but the rest of him is utterly enraged at the world, at the unfairness of it. How is it fair that his mother, as kind and caring and selfless as she had been, had died so young and for such--not pointlessness, but...fuck! Here his father had been, well into the twilight years of his life, dying of natural causes that didn't have anything to do with childbirth or anything that S'laire's mother had suffered from. It simply isn't fair.
739 & 34: Ista catches fire as the result of a thunderstorm; it is an exhausting, frustrating stretch of a fortnight where the entirety of the dragonrider population comes together to help; S'laire and Luxilth don't avoid any of the workload. That first week is spent tirelessly fighting the flames--an ironic twist to the naturally incendiary nature of dragons--and evacuating the residents of Ista Isle. The workload lessens somewhat with the rainstorm almost exactly a week later, but there is still a huge amount of work to be done to return the island to even a shadow of its former self.
740 & 35: While S'laire, as a blueruder, has never had a huge amount of interest in the rise and fall of gold flights, Thallyath's maiden flight is of particular note simply because of the way it ends. Browns catching golds is odd enough--but a blue? Not even considering the fact that Thallyath is particularly small for a queen, or that the entire Weyr had thought Faxxonth to be a green (and both he and his rider had allowed that assumption to continue), the idea is so strange that even weeks after the flight S'laire still finds himself breaking into random chuckles at the thought. A blue, catching a gold! He's realistic enough to realize that it's not likely to ever happen again, but there is a certain amount of satisfaction he feels in knowing that one of his dragon's color-bretheren managed to do the impossible. The thought does occur to him that perhaps it isn't the best thing for the future of the Weyrs, but with as many queens as the Weyrs have right now...it could certainly be worse.

Craft: Harper

Craft Rank: Jr. Journeyman
Date Apprenticed: 18.06.718 AL, age 13
Date Tapped: 21.08.723 AL, age 18
      Mastership Obtained: N/A

Education Details: While Sithulaire was likely not the Harper Hall's most prestigious pupil, he was far from the worst. A hard worker, he didn't enjoy admitting failure, though learning to write was one of the hardest things he's ever done willingly. His handwriting remains on the messy side, so he generally tries to avoid writing whenever possible. The oral histories that he was taught were his favorite, and he even went to such lengths as to put them to music and sing them to his infant daughter. They were no Master's work, but they made Ivonai clap and squeal with glee.

Dragon

Dragon Name: Luxilth
      Name Pronounced: Lucks-ilth
Dragon Colour: Blue
Wing Assigned: A Wing
      Wing Rank: Wingrider

Hatching Date: 12.12.732 AL
Birthing Weyr: Katila
Home Weyr: Fort Weyr
Clutch Name: Future Designs
      Clutch Mother: Gold Krypth
      Clutch Father: Brown Tyrrisath

Appearance:
      Length: 20 feet
      Height: 9 feet
      Wingspan: 35 feet
Scars & Markings: His fair share from flights and Weyrling clumsiness. He had a bastard of a time figuring out how to keep from trodding on his own wings as a hatchling, and the tips have a number of nicks and scars from such incidents.
Weyrlinghood: Luxilth came out of his egg such a dark shade of blue that he was very nearly black. He was on the smaller side, even for a blue, and didn't grow into himself for several months after his hatching.
Adulthood: Even as an adult Luxilth remains on the small side for his color, though he makes up for it with a few extra feet in wingspan. His hide lightened gradually as he grew, so while it remains dark, it's not quite so midnight-blue as it was as a hatchling, and now he's covered in flecks of lighter blue across his body, though the undersides of his wings remain dark and unmarked.

Mindvoice: Dry, deadpan. A little sarcastic sounding, even when he's not actively being a smartass. He doesn't have much of a sense of decorum, either; unless a rider's dragon makes a fuss about his speaking to them, he will.

General Character Traits: Luxilth was and will always be the light to S'laire's dark. A little dramatic, perhaps, but accurate. Aside from S'laire's initial conflict between what he wanted and what he had upon Impressing, the two were thick as thieves from the very start. Luxilth complimented his rider in many ways, and has always been rather pleased of that fact. He tends to be a little full of himself (with reason, in his opinion!), and isn't afraid to tell what's what to those who need it.

While respectful of peoples' boundaries--and their dragons'--he doesn't have many qualms about bespeaking Weyrfolk and other riders when the mood strikes him. He has enough sense to ask, if there's another dragon involved, but that comes easy enough to him as well, bluntness and all. Sometimes it's easy to forget just how small he really is, compared to the size of his personality.

He hasn't put much effort into chasing, only going after the green ladies that he's particularly fond of--or those who are bonded to individuals whose names he's picked out of the depths of S'laire's head. Neither of them mind overmuch (at least now, when S'laire doesn't know just how nosy his dragon is); S'laire had had enough time to come to terms with the inevitability of sexual encounters becoming a reality even before he'd Impressed, so that eventual first encounter wasn't quite as emotionally taxing as it could have been. Despite all of that, Luxilth is a bit of a charmer, never passing up an opportunity to flatter one of the greens--or even the occasional gold, when the mood strikes him to be particularly flattering.

Habits/Mannerisms: Luxilth is a distressingly restless sleeper, twitching and shuffling his wings endlessly throughout the night. He's sent a fair few partners fleeing from his movements post-flight, though he usually has a fairly good attitude about it when it happens.

It's hard, sometimes, being so close to home again and yet still so far away. Ivonen hasn't taken any steps to bar him from seeing his children, but he would have to be blind not to see the discomfort his presence brings to her new marriage. S'laire doesn't even remember the man's name--Tallin,--but he sees, feels the way he looks at him when he doesn't think S'laire will notice. But Luxilth is always watching. Sometimes in a creepy way, but S'laire has grown accustomed to the blue's random outbursts of observation.

It helps far more often than it is a hindrance, so S'laire lets it continue. They don't talk about it, though. It's something like an unspoken agreement between them that they just carry on, collecting and sharing tidbits of knowledge no matter how mundane it appears.

Evening always brings with it a certain peace; the Weyr tended to be on the quieter side, with everyone going about their evening chores or getting their hands on something to eat. That was, in fact, what S'laire had been planning on doing--is doing, in fact, and studiously ignoring his dragon's constant string of comments. Ignored isn't exactly the right word, though, because every word the dragon says is heard and noted and savored.

It wasn't always this easy, though. They both had their fair share of trouble at the start, figuring each other out and learning how best to help one another function in a world that S'laire, at least, didn't particularly want to be in. There was no denying that a dragon had been the last thing he'd wanted...until he had one.

And that was the rub, wasn't it?

Luxilth never took it personally; how could he, when he'd been able to see why S'laire had such a hard time with everything the first couple months after Impression. It had taken significantly longer for Luxilth's frustration to work itself out, but as with everything else: they managed. Together. And by now S'laire doesn't think he can even imagine his life being any different than it is.

Though in retrospect maybe he still wishes, a little too hard, that he could have his family back--but that's doubly absurd, isn't it, because as Luxilth is ever-keen to point out...he has a new family now. And so does she.

They have their own separate lives now, and while a part of him craves the life he'd been torn away from he knows that Ivonen has moved on. As long as she doesn't keep him from seeing her or their children, he can deal with a little disgruntled glaring from Ivonen's new man. Tallin can moan and whine all he wants as long as S'laire still gets to set eyes on the kids and their mother.

Must we linger on such morose thoughts? the blue asks idly after a while, and S'laire winces apologetically.

'No,' he says simply, finishing the final bite of his bread and pushing away from the table he had claimed for himself. Upon walking outside S'laire glances up, shading his eyes against the energetic glare of the setting sun. While Fort has always felt a lot more secure, safer than Katila in a way that he couldn't really describe, even S'laire had to admit that there was a lot more variety in evening activities in the southern Weyr compared to what was available in Fort. Being nestled in the middle of a mountain range certainly had its detriments.

He could just see the familiar shape of Luxilth sprawled on a ledge a ways off to one side and several dragonlengths in the air, almost unusually still in his relaxation. That only lasts a moment before the sleek blue head rises, looking off across the Bowl with sudden interest.

Someone comes.
