Month 05, 741 AL

North: Late Spring | South: Late Autumn
9.9 C to 18.4 C | 13.7 C to 24.5 C

Ista is heating up swiftly, and preparing for a rough summer - hopefully nothing like the one from a couple turns before with the wildfires! The rest of Northern Pern is warming upsomewhat slower, but with no less gusto as summer begins to creep into the sky, keeping the sun awake longer, warming the ledges of the weyrs. Rainstorms are sporadic, but keep the world well watered, despite the heat of the days.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself uncommonly warm (~12C / 53.6) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

With the end of December, our Christmas layout has gone back into hiding! You'll be able to use it again at the end of the year, when Christmas again rolls around. You can expect a new layout for the site in the near future.

December 2017

And so it is December! Can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! At any rate, we have LOTS of fun for you this month! For starters, why don’t you sign up for our Secret Santa Event! Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

This month we will also be focusing on the RP Records, and request you submit all your threads here so we can update the Timeline! As it says in the thread, the Timeline will be updated every month, in the first week. To help us maintain, be sure to submit your threads as soon as you open them!

November 2017

Welcome to November! We'd love it if you would take the time to Vote in our Horrifying Moments threads! We will also be awarding Stamps for people who vote, not just those who took part! We hope you enjoyed this event as much as we did! You can see the Stamps that will be awarded in the Horrifying Moment's thread.

This month we are doing a 'Words of the Month' event! You can choose your word/s as indicated in the thread, and may particpate with as many characters as you desire! This contest has no voting to earn stamps; you get a stamp just for participating! Enjoy!

October 2017

Welcome to October! As part of our Halloween celebrations, the Horrifying Moments event is now open! You may START a thread at any point during the month of October to qualify it for the event! We hope you have a lot of fun with this event, and we look forward to reading your threads! Don't forget to "Like" the threads you enjoy most, so we can award someone the MOST HORRIFYING stamp! Stamps will be revealed later in the month!

September 2017

Welcome to September! This month, we're working on our Awards for the site! We are also advertising avidly! Please welcome any guests or new members with all that warm charm we know you all posess! That said, we are still seeking Affiliates, so if you're here to drop an ad, please consider us!

Our next PC Clutch will be in the new year, so now is the pefect time to join with old candidates (how many clutches have they stood for now?!) and candidate hopefuls! Get those eager young men and women out there and grow them so we can match them with their perfect lifemate when the new year rolls around and one of our lovely golds throws a clutch on the Sands -- At this point in time, the Weyrs are sharing Candidates, so your Candidate can be Searched by any Weyr, and transfer to the one holding the PC clutch!

August 2017

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up in the Cbox or Discord chats, which can be found on the lower part of the screen.

July 2017

We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

June 2017

We are on the brink of relaunching! Our history is being rewritten and cleaned up! We are accepting new members, and old! Our advertisment has been re-written, and will be put out there soon. We are also accepting affiliates of all descriptions, genres and themes! If you would like to affiliate with us, please go here
We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

Inhale through the nose.

Exhale through the mouth.

Inhale... Exhale... Inhale...

The words repeated in Jajojin's mind as he focused on the breathing technique the Healer told him would help calm him. What would have calmed him was punching the man in the mouth to get him to stop talking. But the medicine he was given to aid in sedating him somewhat also saved the man's teeth from departing his body early.

He moved slowly but steadily across the Sands to where the blue dragon waited for him. Of course Xyreith and any number of bronze dragons had been offered up to take him to Ista Weyr but Jajojin wasn't stupid enough to tempt fate and risk a meltdown on the trip or in front of his daughter. No, bronze wouldn't do. Brown was too close to bronze in most cases. Blue, it had to be blue. And while he didn't trust D'hys as much as R'nya did, Jajojin knew D'hys to be a capable dragonrider and up to the task of transporting a crazy man.

Of course this wasn't their first attempt to bring him to Ista but it was the first one that involved drugging him to help keep him calmer and hopefully leave his mind focused enough on the task that it wouldn't break again. He was determined this time as well. He had to see his baby girl. He had to let her know he loved her and see for himself that she was fine.

He glared at R'nya as he approached the small group. It was all that man's fault! If he hadn't taken Madiquel to the Hatching, she would still be doing what she actually wanted! She didn't want to be a dragonrider and Jajojin knew that was partly his fault thanks to what he had become. His fists clenched, wanting to strike R'nya but Jajojin focused on his breathing with an image of Madiquel in his mind. He had to see her. It had already been a week and he was about to swim himself to Ista if he had to in order to get to her.

D'hys was smart enough not to offer assistance in getting up the large blue which earned him a bit more respect. He was about to close his eyes and let memory and reflex take over but knew that would be a trap and Denath would be there instead of Zeianth. Inhale, exhale, inhale, left foot, right foot, grab here...

Once he was up and seemed to be staying, D'hys took that opportunity to announce their departure and Zeianth took off before any protests could happen. He warned when they were about to make the jump and once the cold blast of between hit him, Jajojin knew how easy it would be to just let go and pitch himself to the side, leaving the pain behind and reunite with--

The shock of the Istan heat knocked sense back into Jajojin as he blinked and looked around at a Weyr he hadn't seen since the time before the plague. Telgar had been his home then but he'd come regularly to Ista to visit friends or lounge on the beach while Denath played in the ocean or sunned on a rock. Jajojin sucked in a deep breath as the memories tried to overtake him, inviting him back to those happier days. He needed to focus! Madiquel was here, in the present, and she needed him.

Zeianth landed in the Bowl and Jajojin wasted no time in getting back on the ground. The trip hadn't been so bad but he needed to be on the ground again. Flying unsettled him and he needed a moment to right himself again on the flat and unmoving surface.

Jajojin took two of his bags from D'hys, letting the bluerider carry the other two. He had packed a lot since he planned on staying a bit but also wanted to bring Madiquel more of her own items. Since the bluerider knew where he would be staying, it made sense for him to help with the load.

He was told Madiquel would be informed of his arrival and she'd be free to come see him any point after that. Everyone knew of his condition and knew better than to have him near a class--even if only three--of loud dragonets. It was also why he was down the hall from where the class was apparently staying. Kept him as close to his daughter as was reasonable without disturbing anyone.

"This is more than I need," he muttered as they entered what seemed to be a weyr that was likely for a brown or a large blue given the size of the layout. They had temporarily walled off the entrance to the dragon's ledge with a tapestry and couch put there--like that would stop him if he really wanted to torture himself and spend time where a dragon once lived--but it was appreciated. He had only requested a bed, table, and chair. He didn't need more than that but he supposed he should have specified he didn't need more than a small room to call his own as he looked around the weyr again.

"My thanks to you and Zeianth for your patience in getting me here." He managed to say as they set the bags down on a table. He wasn't a barbarian and did have manners, but sometimes they were hard to get out, especially when they showed weakness. Speaking of weaknesses, Madiquel was his biggest one and he needed to see her.

"Can you make sure she knows I'm here before you leave?"

As D'hys left Jajojin behind to run his final errand for the day, he let out a sigh of relief. Everyone believed him to be cold-hearted and able to keep calm and even uncaring in any situation, but some things rattled him. A dragonless man was one of them. Every time he saw Jajojin, he saw himself without Zeianth. It wasn't even that he feared being Danihysian, the next crazy old man. He just feared being alone without Zeianth.

He thought often about the boy he saved in the landslide. The boy that survived but his dragon didn't. He had begged to die as well and no one would let him until D'hys' guilt--or fear, it was hard to say--collected the boy up days later and promised to reunite him with his dragon. Zeianth took him between and returned empty-handed. He often wondered why no one did that with Jajojin.

He let himself into the weyrlings' weyr and went right for the Weyrlingmaster. He had a hushed conversation with the man, letting him know that Jajojin had finally made it and was in his room if Madiquel could go right then. It was best to get their reunion over with to keep Jajojin calm. A Healer was consulted and the idea was given his approval as well.

He was directed to the girl's room and he knocked, waiting for permission to enter. There was absolutely no way he would risk walking in on her changing. Once permission was granted, he stepped inside, taking a moment to study the dragonet that still didn't look quite right and then turned to Madiquel. "Your father made it. He's staying down the hall and I can take you now if you want to see him. He's in good spirits at the moment. They gave him a light sedative for the trip so he's calm and stable right now." His gaze slid back to the dragon he had learned was named Zezeth, silently letting the girl know that now would be the best time to get the introductions over with.

Madiquel giggled, watching as Zezeth bounced across the room after the small ball Madiquel had thrown. It was a game they’d started playing together a few days prior, as a means of exercise, entertainment, and a way to help Zezeth improve on her general balance and control of her swiftly growing body. While the green was still very small for a Hatchling of her age, she was growing fast enough that she was still having trouble controlling her body, and getting it to do what she wanted. Madiquel was convinced the green was all limbs, and her hide often seemed to be stretching almost to the point of bursting as it struggled to keep up.

The knock on the door startled both girl and dragon, and Zezeth squeaked verbally as she tripped over the ball she’d been about to pick up, and fell on her face. Madiquel - despite feeling bad for it - burst into peals of laughter, snorting between the giggles as she got up to help her dragonet back onto her feet. At the same time, Madiquel called out, laughing; ‘Come in!’ Expecting to see T’ryn or A’tay on the other side of the door, Madiquel was startled when it was D’hys that entered the room. She blinked at him.

“Hello, D’hys!” She said, voice now less organically cheerful as she eyed the bluerider warily. She had nothing against him, though she knew her father wasn’t overly fond of him, R’nya and Rhaedalyn both liked him, as did their gaggle of daughters. Madiquel didn’t see anything wrong with the bluerider, and he’d always been polite to her. But she also knew he was someone R’nya had been consulting about getting her Papa to Ista, and Madiquel had been promised he would arrive for a week, and every time she's been sent word by dragonrider or firelizard that her father hadn’t been able to make the trip. In her heart, she knew that was because of his soul being torn apart by losing Denath, but she couldn’t help the heartbreaking fear that it was emphasised by his not really wanting to see her, now she was a dragonrider. Something he had been, and would never be again.

Madiquel watched D’hys stare at Zezeth, who sat down primly at Madiquel’s side and stared back up at the bluerider with her mild, studying expression. Madiquel put a hand gently on top of Zezeth’s head, and didn’t even glance at Clover when the firelizard dropped down from the top of a wardrobe on one side of the room, and lit herself lightly on Madiquel’s shoulder, also staring at D’hys. When he turned to her and spoke, Madiquel’s emotions shifted from excited delight to absolute terror, and her face lost all colour. Zezeth made a low rumbling sound as she stood up, leaning her shoulder against Madiquel’s leg.

“Okay,” Madiquel whispered, her eyes wide as saucers and her hand trembling where it was pressed to the back of Zezeth’s head, stroking the little green with a subconscious action born of a need of reassurance. Zezeth nuzzled Madiquel’s stomach, before looking up at D’hys and snorting at him. Whether the motion was a demand he lead the way, or scolding him for the emotional roller coaster he set Madiquel on, he would never know. Madiquel seemed to shake herself a little at the sound, though, and took a wobbly step towards the bluerider. “Let’s go,” she said softly, and followed him without really seeing as he lead the way out of the weyr she shared with her classmates.

D’hys didn’t speak to her as he lead the way, for which Madiquel was thankful; she didn’t think she could have upheld her end of a conversation at that moment — she was far too busy having an internal panic attack, which Zezeth was floundering to help her control as they walked behind the bluerider. Her dragon didn’t really understand why Madiquel was so distressed, and Madiquel wasn’t really able to explain it to her right then. They’d already had a deep and meaningful conversation over the past week, starting the day word had come that Jajojin was going to be coming to Ista as soon as possible. She had needed Zezeth to understand about her father.

Thankfully, Zezeth very rarely spoke with words, preferring her emotions and imagery to do the talking for her, and Madiquel knew that while her father was receptive enough he may pick up on anything Zezeth over-emphasised, the little dragonet was a quiet one, and didn’t share her emotions ‘loudly’. When she did speak, her low voice was hard to hear (especially when Dyoricath was busy screeching) and she’d understood the importance of not speaking around Jajojin. Zezeth had been absolutely horrified at Madiquel’s Papa having lost his own dragon, and Madiquel had been relieved by the dragon’s understanding. She, herself, hadn’t been sure how well Zezeth would understand.

Extremely well, apparently.

When they reached the door - finally? It felt like a lifetime and no time all at once - Madiquel gave D’hys a thin smile, eyes still wide with terror. She did, however, take a deep breath and slowly push the door open, feeling Zezeth nudge her butt with her head as Madiquel stepped in. The dragonet stopped just inside, mostly hidden in the shadows, and watched as Madiquel came to a faltering halt, wringing her hands together and already trying desperately not to cry. “Papa?” Madiquel hesitated for just a fraction of a second as her father turned to look at her, before bursting into tears and throwing herself at him, sobbing into his chest with broken ‘I’m sorry!’-ies.

Jajojin wrapped his arms around Madiquel and quietly wept alongside her. He saw D'hys close the door as he silently excused himself before closing his eyes and delighting in having his daughter back. It wasn't like he hadn't seen her since she left for the Hall as they got together frequently for lunch and an afternoon together. But it had felt like a lifetime since he had seen her with the last week being the longest of his life. He had worried so much for her and now that he had her in his arms, he didn't want to let go again. Nothing would harm his baby girl again!

"I'm the one that's sorry. I should have come sooner. I tried, but I was too weak. I don't even deserve your forgiveness for that." Jajojin's low rumbling voice was broken up with his sobs. He was a horrible father for not being there for her! He should have been there when she Impressed as well and it didn't matter that it was unplanned and she was only going as a spectator. He knew he was a useless broken man but that wasn't good enough a reason to keep him away! Yet it had been, for too long. But he was there now and R'nya and Fort Weyr be damned! He'd stay in Ista as long as his daughter wished him to.

He finally managed to untangle them from the hug and had control over his weeping, but he continued holding one of her hands as he led Madiquel to the couch. They were both emotional messes and he felt sitting would do them a lot better than standing until legs gave out. "How are you doing, baby girl? This wasn't a part of your big plan but I know... the joy and... completion... that comes with Impressing. You must be going through so much right now. Tell your Papa everything."

Clinging to her Papa, hearing his own sobs was somehow reassuring, even as it was breaking her heart all over again. She was the cause of this. She was the cause of all his pain and suffering over the past week, and who knew how much pain she was going to cause him in the future, because she’d begged to go to the Hatching, because she’d been so sure she would never Impress… and then Zezeth had upended everything and Madiquel felt even more guilty about that, because she loved her little green dragon, and she could never, ever go back to being without her – and that, by itself, was a huge fear of Madiquel’s, that made her feel even more guilty. She didn’t want to end up like her Papa. Not like that. Not ever, ever like that. Madiquel kept crying, clinging to Jajojin, soaking his shirt with her tears.

When he started untangling them, Madiquel clung tighter before finally allowing her Papa freedom, following him as Jajojin lead her over to the couch, sitting down beside her Papa, Madiquel returned to clinging to him, glued to his side and sniffling. Madiquel clung to the hand he was holding hers with, wiping at her face with the other hand. In the shadows, Zezeth watched quietly; both she and Madiquel had known the reunion would be emotional, and Zezeth prided herself on being much more put together than (for example!) Dyoricath who would have had a meltdown at all the affection, love, and contact between the father and daughter. Zezeth was, while not happy, not convinced the world was about to end. She could feel Madiquel’s confusion, her guilt, her joy and her fear. Zezeth wanted to take those emotions away, to have her pretty human be a happy and bubbly girl again, but she knew that couldn’t happen for a bit.

Madiquel sniffled, drawing her feet up onto the couch and curling them under herself. “Okay,” she said, quite honestly. The first few days had been rough, and she still had nights where she was afraid to sleep. Whenever that happened, it seemed as if Zezeth and Clover conspired against her and TayTay would conveniently visit and Madiquel would fall asleep leaning against her best friend before they’d have a proper visit where she’d catch him up on the latest ups and downs. “It really wasn’t,” Madiquel said, the words coming out on a resigned sigh, feeling exhausted after the emotional meltdown. She sighed again, and tilted her head against Jajojin’s shoulder to peer up at him, eyebrows furrowed and lips pouty. “I really am sorry, Papa.” Her lips trembled as tears threatened once more. “B-but everyone th-thought she was d-dead. They were keening, Papa!” she gripped his hand hard, the horror of that moment rippling through her, and she heard Zezeth shuffle – or maybe she felt it, more than heard it, because it didn’t seem like Papa noticed.

“Do… do you want to meet her?” she asked timidly, eyebrows furrowing again, looking anxious and slightly sick.

Jajojin shut his eyes as the mentioning of keening and the implied fact that his daughter's dragon almost died. A part of him wished the dragon had died. From what he had heard from R'nya, Madiquel didn't seem to realise she had even Impressed until she was on the Sands, only reacting as a Healer seeing a patient that wasn't dead yet. The loss would have barely been felt, if at all. He hated himself for thinking such things, not wanting to risk his baby girl go through the loss he had, even if the connection was only minutes and not years. But everything would have been normal still if the dragonet had died instead of clinging on for her mate.

Yet he was also glad the dragon did hang on, giving Madiquel a chance to keep her sanity and know the joy of having a dragon of her own. But that didn't mean he wanted to meet the thing! Madiquel's presence was helping to ground him as much as the sedative was but he still didn't think he was ready to meet the creature that dared to Impress to his sweet innocent daughter. A green! He knew what that meant, how greenriders were treated, and he did not like the fact that in a couple of years his daughter was going to be a part of that. He'd heard about the way A'tay and his dragon defended the blue pair that caused all of this and so help him, he'd make sure A'tay defended Madiquel with triple that dedication!

Inhale...exhale...

"Bring her in." Jajojin knew he had to meet the dragon sooner or later and it would break his daughter's heart if it wasn't done sooner. He couldn't continue to be a disappointment or embarrassment to her. He had to meet the dragon and had to do it with grace and calm. He glanced down at her and gave a thin smile and nod. He could and would do this!

Madiquel could feel the tension radiating off her Papa as he considered her question; she could see his reluctance, but also his grim determination, and her heart broke for him. Madiquel hated that she was causing him so much distress, that she was the root of so much pain and anguish when all she’d ever, ever wanted to do was help him be happy, to know that she loved him. She wondered how loved he felt, with her bonding to a little dragon, and Madiquel felt as if she was going to drown in the guilt of it all. Madiquel felt Zezeth wrap her up in love, even as she squeezed her Papa’s hand and kissed his cheek, before turning to look to the shadows where Zezeth was hiding.

The little dragonet came forward slowly, watching Jajojin closely though she was also paying very tight attention to the emotions Madiquel was feeling. They were both waiting for cracks to appear in Jajojin’s emotions, expression, anything that told them Zezeth had to vanish and Madiquel had to call a more experienced Healer in. Madiquel, for her part, was sitting tense and coiled beside her Papa, watching him with wide eyes as her dragonet came closer, biting her bottom lip and stroking the top of Jajojin’s hand, returning his thin smile with a shaky one of her own.

Madiquel knew Zezeth had come to a stop, without looking at her dragon. The little green sat down neatly, curling her tail around herself and peering up at Jajojin with her trademarked intense stare, head tilted just slightly as she considered him thoughtfully. When she was content that he wasn’t about to fall apart (judging as much by Madiquel’s slowly relaxing as anything else), Zezeth stood up carefully (her balance still bothered her, and careful movements helped) and extended her nose. She was standing far enough away that the gesture didn’t bring her into Jajojin’s personal space, but she was close enough that if he so desired, he could reach out and let her sniff his fingers, or even touch her on the nose.

“Papa,” Madiquel almost whispered, her eyes full of tears as she watched him, “Zezeth,” she introduced her dragonet gently, turning to smile wistfully at the little green as Zezeth slowly withdrew her head back to a comfortable position and turned her gaze just as thoughtfully upon Madiquel; Madiquel’s expression softened. “Go get some sun, Zee,” Madiquel said gently, watching as Zezeth turned back to looking at Jajojin. Her gaze hadn’t lost that thoughtful air, her eyes whirling slowly and curiously. After a few long moments, she nodded at Jajojin, glanced softly at Madiquel, and turned towards the direction of the ledge. She paused, and blinked at the obstacle that presented itself, twitching her left wing.

Confused, Madiquel turned to see what had caused Zezeth to pause, and said a soft ‘Oh,’ as she flushed gently in embarrassment. Of course Papa didn’t have the ledge open; that was just silly and Madiquel sank down a little in her seat, even as Zezeth turned and flicked her wing again, giving her head a sassy toss and Madiquel could feel her amusement and determination to get past this new puzzle. Intrigued, Madiquel watched as Zezeth trotted over to the table, and the tapestry, and considered them for a moment before easing herself under the table to sniff at the bottom hem of the tapestry. After a moment, she turned to look at her audience with amusement, and wiggled easily under the tapestry and out into the dragon portion of the weyr, sending Madiquel a gentle image of the warm sunshine and the impression of how nice it felt on her hide.

“She does that a lot,” Madiquel said softly, turning back to her Papa, unsure if he’d received the gentle sharing of image and emotion, but mostly meaning Zezeth’s determination to solve puzzles and find everything amsuing. “She doesn’t like to talk, and loves to stare and think.” The girl paused, before frowning slightly. “The blues are loud, though,” she warned, frowning in her newly acquired Healer way as she looked up at her Papa, warning him without outright stating it. Her frown intensified. “I’m sure even when they learn to keep their words to their bonded, Dyoricath… won’t… and Zee likes to stir him up.” Madiquel was still frowning, but her lips twitched with sudden amusement. Then she sobered, shifting on the couch and staring intently up at Jajojin, refusing to drop his gaze. “Are you okay, Papa?”

Jajojin stopped breathing as the creature made her appearance. She was more or less hideous her small, malnourished body and knowing how quickly dragonets could fill out even in one week, he hated to think what she looked like fresh from the egg. Mostly she was hideous for being the creature that had crushed Madiquel's dreams and thrust her into a life she didn't want. Still, this was Madiquel's dragon and his daughter would love her no matter what, which meant he had to try as well. That determination was what had a shaking hand slowly extending to the green snout but he couldn't make contact, leaving it to hang there in the air to be sniffed if she so desired.

When she turned to get some sun like directed, Jajojin lowered his hand to his lap and finally started breathing again, remembering his instructions for deep and slow in and out. He stared at the dragon while she figured out the puzzle before her and a part of him was impressed by the determination but he still couldn't allow himself to love her as more than an accessory to Madiquel. To do so brought pain and fear and he couldn't let those rule him when it concerned his daughter's happiness.

"I'm fine," he reassured his baby girl, and for the most part, he was. For now. He was only hanging on because he had to for Madiquel. He wouldn't let her see him crying again or raging as he destroyed another room. Oh, but to go back to his memories and live in those happy times... no! Madiquel needed him in the present. She would need his support with that dragon--Zezeth--being as sickly-looking as she was. So, like a good father, he shared a story to help lift up her spirits--and keep his mind clearer. For some reason, while he hated talking about Denath, it actually made it easier on him to say them out loud instead of keeping the memories inside.

"Denath was small for a bronze hatchling, you know. He would have been the runt in a feline litter. He barely had any meat on his bones and he was so gangly and tripped himself up a lot." He paused, a smile on his lips as he recalled the day he Impressed and how the coming days saw them getting teased. But when the memory became too vivid, he focused on Madiquel, giving her hand a light squeeze. "But he grew steadily and without complication until he was one of the biggest bronze dragons on Pern." Jajojin sat up straighter, pride evident in voice and posture. Denath had such a commanding presence but he had also been one of the kindest dragons.

"She...Zezeth has you to help her grow big and strong as well. And her silence," was nice, honestly. Some dragons were obnoxious and Jajojin couldn't escape their loud voices no matter how hard he tried to block them out, "means she will be a great thinker as well." Her puzzle solving of the blocked off entry already showed that.

"And you have me. I'm staying in Ista until you say otherwise, baby girl." He hadn't always been a good father before the landslide but he tried since then and Jajojin was tired of Madiquel being the adult and caring for him. She was a weyrling now and really didn't need him anymore, but he wanted to be there for her. Support her, love her, listen as she talked about her day...
