Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

[[Update slowly in progress because ThistleProse is a slackarse :3 lmao ]]

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 03, 740 AL

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are getting a lot of rain, thunderstorms, and cloudy days. Grass is growing, flowers flowering, and baby animals popping up all over the place! Yay spring!

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

Beckitt cleared away the remains of supper quickly, eager to get back to the barracks for his notebook. He had collected several new songs at the Gather a few days ago, and hoped to share them with J’shom if the green rider was around.

Unlike his joking with Vess at the gather he hadn’t actually collected any bawdy songs, just interesting melodies they could mess with harmonies for. They did this every now and then when J’shom couldn’t make it to a gather or other event; he’d learned Kitt’s knack for music several years ago in Katilia and taught him better ways to memorize them and how to write down lyrics and notes in a shorthand common to Harpers.

If he’d been younger when the riders came north Beckitt might have begged to apprentice with the Harpers—if they would even take a weyrbrat back then, given the tensions between Weyr and Craft. But he hadn’t been, and this was likely the closest he would come to such training. He soaked music up like a sponge, and didn’t complain about it like some of his year mates had. He had been fascinated by the Harpers, spending as much time around them all as they would allow, finding some—like J’shom—more tolerant of the behavior than others.

Humming, he grabbed his book and quickly made his excuses to his friends; there was only so much free time, after all, and he didn’t want to waste a minute of it. Walking quickly but carefully—mindful of the recent reprimands about his rushing around everywhere all the time—he knocked and waited.

As a former Harper, J’shom adored Gathers. Unfortunately, in recent turns he’d been unable to attend them as often as he used to. Some of that was due to all the Gathers he missed while he was on the Southern Continent, but it was also a result of having a sometimes temperamental green dragon. Siolilth, dear girl, could be a mercurial thing and when she got herself into a mood it was nearly impossible to get her to do anything she didn’t want. And for about five days, including both days of the Telgar Gather, Siolilth had decided she must be alone at all times, not wanting to go anywhere she’d have to interact with anyone other than him. It wasn’t quite yet time for her to be proddy, besides, that tended to make her overly social, not avoidant of others. No, it was just her own odd self deciding all company was bad and no one could share space with her; not without getting snapped at, at least. This sort of thing happened sometimes. She just had awful timing.

J’shom would have loved to have attended the Gather, but Siolilth was immovable, and while he was almost positive she wouldn’t be Flying for another month, it didn’t hurt to be cautious about these things. A Flight at a Gather would be terribly awkward and complicated, and J’shom figured it was better not to risk it, even if he could have convinced Siolilth to go anywhere near so many people. At least a few days later Siolilth’s mood had righted itself, and when someone knocked on their door she turned her head in the direction of the door beyond the stone wall curiously, instead of ready to chew someone out.

“Who is it, dear?” J’shom asked her, folding the corner of the page he was on and standing up from where he leaned against his dragon. Beckitt, Siolilth said, gently brushing the edges of the person at the door, sending an image of the Candidate back to J’shom. She liked Beckitt alright, which J’shom took to mean the boy was unlikely to Impress bronze. That was hardly a problem, in J’shom’s mind, but it was sometimes awkward as a Searchrider with a very opinionated dragon when it came to having a guess what color they’d Impress. Some boys didn’t take kindly to hearing they were likely to Impress a green dragon. Beckitt was, thankfully, not one of those, and J’shom knew the cheerful young man would be ecstatic about whatever color dragon he Impressed. A good mindset, really. Made it less likely you would be crushed with disappointment.

He crossed his weyr, dropping his book on his dining table as he passed through the main room to the door, pulling it open to smile at his guest.

“Hello, Little Bird. To what do I owe this visit?” J’shom said, stepping aside and gesturing for Beckitt to come inside.

Beckitt smiled as he felt Siolith brush the edges of his mind while he waited at the door. He liked the green and her willful personality even if it did sometimes inconvenience her rider. The smile brightened as J’shom opened the door and invited him in.

“Hi, J’shom,” Kitt replied brightly as he stepped inside. He tried not to dwell on how happy that nickname made him. J’shom had been one of the first to compare him to a songbird. It made sense given his aptitude for melodies and quick ear. He couldn’t remember exactly when the nicknames had taken off, but J’shom’s secretly pleased him the most.

“I heard you couldn’t make it to the Gather, so I brought some of it back for you.” He held up the notebook in illustration of his point with a grin. “I haven’t had a chance to copy them out properly, but I figured if you had time we might be able to run through one or two?”

He greeted Siolith politely while J’shom thumbed through the marked pages. He’d made notes of the instruments played with each song. Beckitt was only passably competent with a few instruments, and abysmal on the drums, but he made up for it with his perfect pitch and wide vocal range, but he always liked to credit the original intention of the composer. “A few were purely instrumental--for the dances--but I did my best to get the melodies for those, or at least a name for the song and who played it so you can inquire about it with the hall if you like any of them.”

“Yes, unfortunately my precocious lady decided we would not be attending and I cannot win against her whims,” J’shom said with a fond eye-roll. It wasn’t that bad, really, he would certainly survive having missed the Gather. Especially with Candidates bringing him music to experiment with. “I can’t say I have any particular plans for the rest of the day, at least not that I can’t put aside for a while, so you’re welcome to stay as long as you like.” He gratefully took the notebook and started flipping through it while Beckitt wandered off to greet Siolilth.

Thank you, Beckitt, these are excellent,” he said when Beckitt came back from saying hello to the green. “Here, pick one you really liked and see if you can sing the melody for me?” J’shom could sight read music, but he found it never sounded as good as when he had heard the song first. The notebook was handed back to Beckitt while J’shom moved to grab his smaller harp from a side table where he’d left it. It would be able to play most of what he’d seen in his quick perusal of the music Beckitt had transposed (it didn’t occur to him that maybe Beckitt had specifically noted down music for J’shom’s favorite instrument), and if he picked one of the few it wasn’t as well suited for, J’shom had other instruments they could get out. They just weren’t as conveniently located at the moment.

“Alright, which have you chosen?” J’shom asked, perching on one of his chairs, harp in his lap, waiting for Beckitt to start them off.

Kitt grinned as J’shom said he was welcome as long as he liked. He almost joked about ‘how’s forever, then,’ but wisely bit his tongue. “Thank you,” he said instead.

From his favored nickname back to his full name. That was… less than ideal. Oh well. He took the book back with a bright smile and flipped through it till he found one he liked.

“Wayward Gaze,” He replied setting the notebook in a stand so they could both see, and holding it open. It was a silly little song about a cot holder who kept getting in trouble because of a wandering eye—tripping over unseen obstacles, seeing things he shouldn’t, and the like. The troubles got more and more ridiculous and the melody tumbled over itself like the man stumbling through his life. It was meant to also have a piper on the harmony, but they could make due. He especially liked the tripping little interludes between verses, and knew J’shom liked a challenge on his favored instrument.

He hummed a bar for J’shom to catch the introduction, then ran through the song, humming the harp part first, then running through it again with the words, humming when he forgot one or couldn’t read his handwriting quickly enough. Kitt poured a glass of water from a pitcher on the sideboard and took a few sips while the Harper ran through the first few bars to get a feel for it.

They ran through the song a few times, frequently stopping and starting a section again, or hopping ahead to a tricky part. Unlike teaching songs or other known ones, they usually didn’t run the songs Kitt collected straight through right away, learning the various bits then stitching it all together after they were comfortable.

The song Beckitt picked had a catchy tune, and it had a number of intricate sections for the harp that J’shom had fun conquering, though he felt the lyrics of the song could be improved upon. Some very easy wordplay the writer of the piece hadn’t gone in for. Beckitt was an excellent singer, even compared to a Hall trained Harper his age, so he made the words sound good even if J’shom felt the words themselves lacked the edge of cleverness that would push the song from fun to actually good. In his humble opinion, not that J’shom wrote songs for people older than ten very often, though perhaps that was what made him think so poorly on the missed wordplay.

Once they tired themselves out on the first song, they moved on to a second. That one was slower, designed to give dancers a break, but it had a solid (though not particularly complex) harp part. The lyrics of this one were also much better written, and his Little Bird sang it beautifully. The story of the song was about a young woman in a Sea Hold waiting for the man she was engaged to, who was out on a ship for months, to return so they could be married. It was a new take on a common story - most of them tended to be about a wife waiting for her husband - and it was executed well, making it an excellent example of the ‘lover at sea’ song as opposed to a tired rehashing. J’shom enjoyed it immensely, and since the harp part was straightforward enough he had more attention to spare for Beckitt’s singing.

“Phew!” J’shom said after they finished running through the entirety of a fourth song, this one a face paced dancing tune, “how does a break sound?” He absolutely could play for hours, but breaks were important, especially for singers, and J’shom didn’t want Beckitt to hurt his throat, especially since they were just playing for fun. A break sounds excellent, it means you can oil the itchy spot on my shoulder, Siolilth spoke up, addressing both of them so her request couldn’t possibly be ignored. J’shom raised an eyebrow and gave Beckitt an amused look. “Sounds like we’re moving out to the ledge. Any objections?” he asked, already standing up to head out to tend to his fussy dragon. She was lucky Beckitt liked her, honestly. Though it was cool out tonight and sitting on the ledge would be nice, and they could either keep trying new songs or just chat. Once Siolilth had gotten her itchy spots oiled, of course.

Beckitt enjoyed himself immensely as they ran through several of the songs. Sure, even if he hadn’t picked the bawdy ones, he could still be judicious in his selections. Three love songs and a couple with particularly complex harping J’shom would enjoy. By the time they wrapped up the fourth he’d finished off most of the pitcher of water and was more than ready for a break.

When Siolilth piped up that she was itchy and included him in the ‘request,’ Kitt laughed and nodded. “I agree, Siolilth, a break does sound excellent. No objections from me on moving outside.” He gathered up the book and the remainder of the water, carrying it out and setting it off to one side while J’shom fetched oil and cloths.

“Would you mind if I helped?” he offered, asking them both. Kitt liked oiling dragons when he got the chance; he found it soothing, and frankly the oil helped smooth the calluses on his hands from climbing. Taking one of the cloths and dipping it in the oil he began to gently massage it in where Siolilth requested.

The itchy patch wasn’t too big, but Kitt also didn’t mind if she wanted to be a bit spoiled and have a more thorough oiling; it gave him an excuse to be out in the night air and to spend more time with J’shom. He darted a glance over at the man, who obviously doted on the green and smiled, recognizing from his expression that Siolilth was speaking with him. Hopefully he’d have that same connection someday soon. He found a new dry spot and added some oil, amused by her sigh of relief. Darting another glance over, and extremely aware of how close they stood while they worked, he let his hand drift over and brush lightly against J’shom’s.

“Oh, no, I don’t mind at all,” J’shom said, shaking his head, and he handed a clean cloth over to Beckitt. “And of course Siolilth doesn’t mind. One more person doting on her, after all.” He smiled up at his dragon as she tossed her head elegantly, though she made no protest.

With no prompting Siolilth started directing them both to where she needed oiling, sighing happily every time one of them started on a new spot. It’s mutually beneficial, you know, she informed J’shom, I stop itching and don’t develop an unsightly dry hide, and it’s good for your hands after playing so much. J’shom shook his head fondly, rubbing more oil into a spot on her shoulder. I know I’ve pointed it out before, but it would make a good deal of sense if you oiled me after every time you played, she added.

’Some calluses are actually good for playing, sweetheart,’ he reminded her, with the tone of someone who’s pointed out the same thing many times. Even if it was certainly good for the hands to oil a dragon, and of course good for the dragon, if J’shom oiled her every time he so much as touched an instrument he’d never get anything done. Siolilth sighed and gave up for the moment, instead directing her rider towards another spot that needed oil.

They oiled quietly for a bit, the only noises Siolilth’s contented hums and the soft sounds of cloth on hide. J’shom fell easily into the rhythm of oiling a dragon, and somewhat zoned out as he focused on the task. He was brought mostly back to the world when Beckitt’s hand brushed against his, and J’shom’s hand stilled, his attention brought to Beckitt instead of oiling Siolilth. It was only maybe a beat before he started oiling Siolilth again, ignoring it as a result of working in close proximity. He’d only been so distracted by it because he’d been so absorbed in his task and the light touch had brought him out of it. No point giving it undue attention.

“When you’re as gorgeous a green as she is, it’s astounding there are those who don’t dote on her,” he flattered Siolilth. He had always had a soft spot for the green who put up with her rider’s teaching and didn’t seem to mind him being around regularly even though he’d long since graduated from creche classes to candidate ones.

Beckitt felt his heart jump into his throat as he waited for a reaction when J’shom paused. The night air seemed suddenly thin and he realized he was holding his breath. But all for nothing; the greenrider seemed to brush it off as distraction and got back to his task. Beckitt hid a pout as he resoaked the cloth and straightened back up.

He waited a few moments, then sidestepped more deliberately into J’shom’s space. Kitt brushed his hand again, slower, eyes darting over to check his expression.

Siolilth trilled in pleasure at the flattery, tail tip flicking back and forth in a way J’shom thought of as her draconic way of blushing. She knew she could be considered a bit shallow, but so what? It was nice to be told she was pretty, it was nice to be pretty, and if she wanted to revel in it no one was going to stop her. Anyone who enabled her could easily work their way into her good graces. Unless they were a male dragon, she had an image to maintain after all. Humans though, their flattery was accepted. Beckitt was particularly good at flattery. Siolilth appreciated it.

When Beckitt brushed his hand a second time, J’shom laughed lightly, “I’m sorry, am I getting in your way? Do you need me to move over? I’m sure Sio has plenty of spots to be oiled that don’t have us bumping elbows all the time.” He didn’t want to crowd Beckitt, or annoy him by constantly being in the way while he was trying to oil a spot. Especially since Beckitt didn’t have to be doing this at all, and Siolilth would be disappointed if he accidentally drove off the second pair of hands pampering her.

Yes, because I would be the disappointed one if he left, Siolilth said dryly with a toss of her head. J’shom ignored her.

Beckitt smiled at Siolilth’s happy vanity. The green was a favorite of his--and not just because of her rider. Sure, she could be picky, and her moods weren’t always predictable, but she more than made up for it with her companionship on good days.

Kitt laughed as well at the reaction he’d gotten. “You’re fine. I don’t mind if you don’t. I’ll try to woolgather a little less,” he fibbed, “and watch where my hands are a little more.” Internally he kicked himself. Prime chance spoiled. You were bold a minute ago, what happened, Birdy? He thought, flustered.

To cover it, he went to get a drink, returning with a cup for J’shom as well. He leaned against Siolilth and pretended not to be paying attention to every movement the rider made. “I really enjoy these evenings,” he said, eventually. “Making music, spending time with you--” Beckitt paused, then added, “and Siolilth, of course.”
