Looking up, mildly surprised, Indivara blinked at the firelizard that had just appeared in the living area of her home, and tilted her head. The firelizard looked around for a few moments, before resigning himself to delivering the letter to Indivara. The young woman took the letter, offering the firelizard a piece of fruit in exchange. The creature gave her a disgusted look, before vanishing. Shrugging, Indivara gave the piece of fruit to Queenie and – uncaring that the letter was addressed to Val – opened it.

Indivara stared for several moments at the contents. The simple thought of ‘what the fuck’ was on replay in her mind. It was taking up all the space, at least until a new thought finally managed to get hold, worming its way in, and Indivara gave a sudden bark of laughter, shrieking with delight as she bounced to her feet and made her way over to where Val kept all his various records, humming under her breath as she searched for the one specific thing she was after. It took a moment, but more because Indivara tended to go cross-eyed when too many numbers were involved than anything else. Finding what she was after, Indivara snatched it off the shelf, upsetting its neighbours on the way. Quickly checking that it was correct, Indivara smirked as she reached out to an amused Venseth.

Is he still in the baths?
Yes. Shall I tell Veeth? Indivara could feel the amusement rolling off her blue, and knew that his friend would be dying to know what had him feeling such. Indivara denied him, for the moment, though.
Not until after I tell Val, she said; she couldn’t have Veeth ruining her fun!

Dashing out the door, Indivara very nearly ploughed into B’jin, but his squeak and her own quick reflexes (and diminutive height) had her ducking under the tray he was carrying as she gave him a saucy wave and vanished off to find Val. B’jin watched her go, bemused, before shaking his head and continuing on his own way.

Indivara found the right bathing area with the help of the firelizards, and didn’t bother to knock as she barged in, coming to a stop on the edge of the tub, she smirked down at Val in an almost predatory manner. “You were wrong!” she crowed, utterly delighted, as she waved the letter he’d been sent (and she’d intercepted) in one hand, before waving his Hatching Record in the other. Still smug as a firelizard in the meat store, Indivara carefully found the line she wanted on the Record. “Let’s see,” she said, making a great show, “Oh, here we are. Nerreh and green Faxxonth.” Peering over the top of the paper like a principal looking down on a student who failed their work, Indivara’s eyes sparked. “He is a blue,” she said, drawing out the words slowly.

Dropping suddenly, Indivara sat on the edge of the pool, and shoved her bare feet into the water, feeling it lap around her calves. “Oh, and you’ll never guess what else,” she said. But she didn’t spoil the surprise. Carefully handing the record to one of Val’s blues to take back to their weyr, Indivara held out the note she’d gotten and wiggled it teasingly.

Guess.” She dared him, eyes narrowed challengingly.

V'ler had been enjoying a lazy soak in the tub, taking advantage of it while most others were down in the dining cavern for an early meal. He had already scrubbed clean his body and hair and was now simply enjoying the hot water relaxing his muscles and the quiet that worked on his mind--until firelizards and Indivara burst through the door. He gave a sigh, knowing that was the end of the silence since it was easy to see the flits were riled up and Indivara did not look like she was in a mood to enjoy the quiet either.

He quirked one brow in question at her statement that he was wrong--highly unlikely--and waited for her to get to her point. When she did, V'ler snorted in amusement and lifted his left hand out of the water solely to flick it in dismissal. "I'm not wrong when I'm recording what I'm told. Considering dragon and the new mate reported to the Weyrlingmaster what the colour and name is, I'm hardly at fault." Truthfully, it was a bit annoying that such an error could happen. How could a dragon not know? Did they only go off of what everyone saw them as? That was something interesting to ponder on when next he had his quiet time back. He also wondered if poor Vessaelia would hear about this colour swap and hope her green turned gold. The girl was adjusting, but even V'ler could tell she still had a long way to go in truly accepting what she had. How could someone not love their dragon unconditionally? He loved all dragons even before he Impressed and would have been happy with any colour.

"If those are my original records, don't get them wet," V'ler eyed the papers still in Indivara's hands as she sat down on the edge of the pool to soak her legs. Sure, Ista Weyr and Harper Hall each had their own copy of his Hatching record but that was his own copy and he didn't want to have to track down one of the other two so he could tidy up what was smeared or flat out ruined by water. Given his worry about his notes and the new letter that was for him yet he hadn't even read yet, V'ler didn't feel like guessing what the rest of the news was and just gave Indivara an expectant look, knowing she would happily tell him if she had another chance to gloat.

Indivara snorted dismissively at Val’s retort, waving her own free hand in reply, brushing his words away and into the fogginess of the bathing chamber. “If you say so,” she replied, the words coming out in a sing-song way that quite clearly implied that Val could say whatever he wanted; he was wrong and she knew it. Smug as she was, Indivara gave Val an irritated look when he got all antsy about his records, the girl refusing to dignify his words by snidely pointing out she’d already had them returned to his precious desk by his precious firelizard. It wasn’t every day Indivara gave up the opportunity to pick a fight, but it also wasn’t every day she had such a delicious piece of information to (quite literally) hold over his head.

Guess,” she demanded, scowling when all he did was stare up at her with his stupid face all expectant and placid and she wanted to punch him. Instead, Indivara kicked water at Val, though she was careful not to kick him, because as much as he made her furious, she did still love the bastard and didn’t actually enjoy hurting him. Mostly. She did like punching him, but he tended to be able to take the irritated attacks to shoulders and chest. Kicking him in the face was a bit more than Indivara was inclined towards… Though there was that one time when she’d been sick and ended up upside-down in their bed… But she digressed.

“I hate you,” Indivara said quite seriously, waging a finger in Val’s direction and crossing her arms irritably, before lifting her chin and smirking down at him. “Thallyath flew today,” Indivara said, knowing that Val knew who all the golds were, and he probably had all the bronzes down too. Indivara knew most of them, but not with the precision that Val knew names and partnerships. “She was won by Faxxonth,” a pause. “Blue Faxxonth.” And Indivara burst into peals of laughter. Later, she’d probably be irritated that there was another woman on blue – she’d been the only one for quite a while – and the fact that a blue won gold would get old, fast, but not before Veeth truly and wonderful drove Val up the wall with ‘but why can’t I win one?’ that she was sure would follow.

V'ler continued staring at Indivara as he waited for her to give up on the guessing game. Seriously? What was he supposed to guess when there wasn't much to go off of to begin with. Maybe another misidentified dragon in the same clutch given their current topic but even then, it wasn't a small clutch. Thankfully Indivara's stubbornness was no match for her desire to prove someone wrong or share information she knew and no one else did and he finally got an answer--though he wasn't sure he had heard right.

At least until Veeth chimed in.

A blue won a gold? I knew it was possible! V'ler winced at the excited and loud dragon in his head and shot Indivara a glare. Did she really have to ruin his quiet bath ten times over with the news and riling up Veeth? He may have loved her, for some reason, but that didn't mean he had to give her the satisfaction she was clearly looking for from certain reactions. "Congratulations to the blue pair. I imagine the clutch won't be very big, if blues can even sire at all. I'll have to get permission to scour the old records and see if this has happened before." Honestly, the news was shocking and he was trying to figure out how it could have happened but he was a Harper and one that loved diving through the history as much as he enjoyed recording it. This would be a fun challenge to see if it had happened pre-plague and how often.

V'leeeeer, why can't I chase golds still? They should be loved by all dragons, not just bronze and brown. Let me chase them again, please? V'ler sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose as he debated how to answer his dragon. Veeth's love of entering every single Flight was exhausting and finally led to V'ler putting his foot down and denying them gold Flights, though he didn't stop Veeth from entering any green he wanted--which was still all of them, of course. How about we wait and see how this union plays out first, okay? We'll go to Fort tomorrow and visit the girls and if a green Flight happens, I'll cheer you on. Veeth accepted the terms with a mixture of sadness and excitement but at least he was dealt with for the time being.

Indivara, however... "I hope Venseth starts chasing every green."

Indivara sniggered when Val winced, her eyes bright with mirth at the glare he was shooting her. A choked laugh was given when he responded with a mild-mannered retort, the words amusing Indivara as much as if he’d flown off the handle. Actually, from Val, that probably would have been quite frightening! Of course, then he was talking about stuffy papers and history and crap and Indivara rolled her eyes dramatically. Way to ruin her fun!

Of course, her fun was brought back when it was clear that Veeth was giving Val a headache and Indivara giggled to herself, even as she pulled her spring dress up over her head and slipped into the warm water while her mate was occupied. When he finally opened his eyes and spoke to her, Indivara laughed again. “Don’t be silly,” she said happily, “Venseth is far too lazy.” Her dragon didn’t even both to quip at her for the apparent insult, since it was true. They’d had a conversation not even that long ago, with her blue utterly confounded by how Veeth found the energy to chase every green that took to the skies – even the mated ones!

Venseth, for his part, would give Chase when he felt that his itch needed to be scratched, but he usually played smarter, not harder. While he didn’t win every time he entered, he did have a handful of preferred greens and usually managed to win about half of the time. His mild interest was probably vastly impacted by Indivara’s dislike of the event; she never stopped him and always wished him luck, but she also never partook in sex with other losers, and was almost always out of whatever entanglement she had been dropped into when Venseth won, before the other rider was aware.

“Besides,” Indivara added, stretching up to kiss Val lightly on the lips. “You get laid enough for all of us.” Blue eyes sparkled – there was no jealousy towards Val’s dragon induced sexlife – as Indivara dropped below the surface of the water, scrubbing her fingers against her scalp, long dark hair flaring out before she rose back up, and slicked the water off her face.

Before she said anything, V'ler knew Indivara was going to give some sassy comment thanks to the quick kiss. He allowed himself a brief snort of a laugh when she ducked under the water--since she wouldn't be able to see or hear him react to it--and sobered again when she came back up. "Not as often as I could be," he countered, knowing just a few turns earlier had seen him getting laid far more often. He had noticed some of the pre-plague riders seemed to have more control of their senses immediately after a Flight and after pestering some of them, V'ler had started working on controlling his emotions and separating himself from Veeth's desires when they lost. He didn't always succeed and sometimes he wondered if Veeth or even he himself purposely wanted him to fail at recovering so he could have a random tumble.

He left that thought alone to focus on the new issue at hand and when he could get down to Harper Hall to look at the archives. His first thought was to go after the bath but then recalled the hour was growing late so a morning trip would be in order. Thankfully, since he was one of the Stolen Harpers, the Hall had never hated him as much as they did the other dragonriders, despite having Veeth trailing along behind him. For a little while after he was in their good books and no one else was, V'ler had to be the go between and sometimes made requests as if they were his own but were on the behalf of someone else. Still, he would dress nicely and try to watch his mouth when he went in the morning. No doubt the mystery of if a blue had won a gold before would be interesting enough to let him in and give him some apprentices to help in the search.

He was going to ask Indivara if she wanted to come along when he recalled she still had a class of weyrlings to look after, despite them getting to a fairly stable age that didn't need constant supervision. That reminded him... "It occurs to me that maybe you should do a thorough gender check on your class in the morning while I'm at the Hall. You don't want to find out you also have a hidden blue that's going to chase a gold." He smirked at her, knowing they were both confident in the colours everyone Impressed to. Although... "You might want to check Tiath at least. She does have the nature of a gold and you don't want Vessaelia trying to convince them both that a bright green hide is a shade of gold."

“Oh?” Indivara asked, mildly amused, as she arched an eyebrow. She wasn’t sure if he was implying they should be more sexual or not, so she just watched him for a moment with a slightly confused expression fighting with her amusement; a glimmer of worry sitting like a dark shadow behind her forward emotions. Indivara loved Val, but she had never felt the need to drown him in demands for sex, a good deal of which was because she often didn’t feel appealing, but she’d also never had much of an appetite. Well, she’d done the whole youngster-flight-mothing thing, but that had been more for the thrill. She wasn’t interested in that kind of adrenaline anymore.

Moving to collect some soapsand, Indivara poured some into her hands to sudd up, before applying it to her hair. She snorted at Val’s comment, scrunching her nose up. “Venseth can do it,” she said, arms still up and hands buried in her hair, suds and bubbles changing her hair to white. “He can just ask them all. I figure if someone had actually bothered to ask Faxxonth if he was a blue, he probably would have said yes?” Her statement ended in a question, and she shrugged one shoulder. She did, however, sigh at the mention of Vessaelia. “That woman,” she sighed, shaking her head before pulling her hair down so she could wind it together into a bun, tying it off with the suds still in it. “Tiath is snooty enough to be a gold,” Indivara allowed, “but she’s smaller even than Thallyath and I didn’t know golds could be as small as Thallyath.” She shook her head.

“I’ll deal with them all tomorrow.” Vessaelia wouldn’t listen to a word she said if she pulled the young greenrider aside; if she made a show of checking all of the dragons, then she’d see she wasn’t being singled out. If that got the ridiculous idea in her head, then Indivara would deal with her thereafter. Indivara pinched the bridge of her nose and pushed all thoughts of her troublesome pair out of her mind. Instead, she picked up some more soap sand and waded to the shallow end of the pool so the water only came up to around her waist, so she could wash more easily.

"I don't envy you," V'ler replied when Indivara finally agreed to check in with her class in the morning. Sure, Venseth could do it, and would likely still help out with the task, but it was better to have Indivara do it as well. The human side of the partnerships would appreciate it and might have questions about the whole situation and Venseth likely wouldn't want to answer them over and over or reach out to the whole class. Veeth would happily talk to everyone that glanced his way and flirt with the female riders while he was at it, which was why they would be far away at the time.

With some effort--the water was hot and he was comfortable--V'ler made his way out of the pool to begin towelling off. "I should go read the letter for myself and make the appropriate amendments in my records. Then perhaps an early night so I can get an early start at the Hall tomorrow." Knowing his tendency to get absorbed in his work, he expected someone would have to kick him out at nightfall when they closed up and sent everyone to their rooms and it likely still wouldn't be enough time to go through centuries of records kept by six Weyrs.

The towel was wrapped around his waist and V'ler dared to step close to the edge again so he could lean down and kiss Indivara's forehead. "Take your time. You'll need to be as relaxed as possible to deal with your class tomorrow. I'll still be up when you get in." Just because he said it'd be an early night didn't mean he was headed directly to bed. Anything before sunrise was technically an early night in his definition, though he did plan to be asleep well before then.

Indivara snorted, but didn’t reply as Val made his way out of the water, though she watched him quietly from under her lashes at intervals, broken by her attention focusing on her own self as she washed. “Good luck finding it,” she mumbled; his firelizards were so different in personality and Indivara hadn’t paid much attention to which one she’d given the sheets of paper to. She who could tell dragons apart at a glance, still struggled to keep his three blues separated in her mind. She knew who was who when faced with them, but as soon as they left her view, she was clueless. It frustrated her as much as it amused Venseth.

Another snort was given at the early night, early morning. She didn’t doubt him, but she did wonder how long this new information would steal him away for. If he could get away with it, she knew he’d sleep in the library itself at the Hall; he would probably only come home enough to keep Veeth placated, not because he preferred any other bed than his own, but because Indivara knew well his distaste for traveling between. Still, as much as she would sulk about every night that she found herself sleeping alone, she would prefer him sleep in a cot at the Hall than risk losing him and Veeth forever between.

Tilting her head up to accept the kiss on her forehead, warmth washed over Indivara’s features and she smiled gently at Val. “Okay,” she said softly, watching fondly as Val left. She drifted gently in the warmth of her love for him, before the requirements for the following day’s class came crashing down around her again, and Indivara groaned before sinking under the water completely, as if she could drown her responsibilities and their clinging fingers. Why did we take this on, again? she asked Venseth, but the dragon just laughed and Indivara sighed out her breath, watching the bubbles surface before following them.
