Month 12, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.

Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

[[Update slowly in progress because ThistleProse is a slackarse :3 lmao ]]

Month 04, 740 AL
North: Early Spring | South: Early Autumn
−1.9 C to 4.7 C | 20.0 C to 29.0

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

The Red Star can be seen by those who choose to see it, causing no shortage of whispers that Thread will return - and just as much dismissal from those who do not believe. After all, it's been so long, surely it is no longer a threat! Weyrleaders are, regardless, beginning to put together wings in their Weyrs, if only to keep troublesome and bored riders busy.

Month 03, 740 AL

Month 12, 739 AL
North: Early Winter| South: Early Summer
-3.1 to 2.1 C | 20.4 C to 29.4 C

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

13.4 to 21.0 C | 13.8 C to 25.6 C

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Month 08, 739 AL
North: Late Summer | South: Late Winter
17.4 to 25.5 C | 10.8 C to 23.2 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

Month 07, 739 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter
18.0 to 26.6 C | 10.2 C to 21.9 C

Ista is still unseasonably warm, with average weather being in the 37 to 45 C range, making it now a more than slightly undesirable escape for the rest of the Northern population from the more enjoyable early summer weather. There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind. Ista's limited farmlands and fields are dry and dusty, with golden straw instead of grass where there is any growth at all.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are still getting a lot of evening rain and the occasional thunderstorms, which cools down the populus and allows them to sleep easily without sweating their brains out like the Istans.

There has been very little in the way of rain, though the coastal areas are no stranger to the salty wind.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Northern areas are getting a lot of rain, thunderstorms, and cloudy days. Grass is growing, flowers flowering, and baby animals popping up all over the place! Yay spring!

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. Month 11, 738 AL
North: Late Autumn | South: Late Spring

Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

Month 10, 738 AL
North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring

Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

Month 09, 738 AL
North: Start Autumn | South: Start Spring

Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter

Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter

Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

September 2018

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

As always, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! While you’re at it, remember to submit your favourite quotes – from your character’s or others! – to the Quote Submission Thread! We want to see some recent quotes thrown in with our old ones!

If you haven't already, please drop by the Dragonrider Weyr Allocations thread, and let us know where your dragonriders call home. We are hoping to set up Wings across the three PC Weyrs over the next month or so, and your assistance is much appreciated! As a result, we will be looking for Wingleaders, Wingseconds, and of course Candidates for the clutches we have scheduled for this year!

August 2018

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

July 2018

July was July-y.

June 2018

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! It could be an innocent date with some - *gasp* - hand holding!

This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! The Hatching will take place in October so you have a lot of time to get Candidates created, approved, and posting up a storm!

Those of you who are intersted, please take part in a discussion about the Plot for opening up the Healer Hall! You can find it [here].

April 2018

Well, it’s halfway through the month which shows you how awful I am at keeping this stuff up to date, haha. Due to my slackness, there is no event this month, but the month of May will be hosting ’Lost Belongings’ wherein characters should find something they – or someone else – lost.

In the meantime, gold Okalinath of Kahleena has taken to the skies! You can find her Flight thread taking place on the 4th, here Currently, there is no planned winner, so be sure to throw your bronzes and browns her way! They do not need to be natives to Telgar Weyr to participate!

March 2018

Welcome to March, my friends!

Unfortunately, this month we don’t have any events set up, so we encourage you to wrap up threads and create some personal plots! Next month will be bringing in a new monthly event (Lost Belongings!) so you can always set your character up for that! If you have ideas for future Events, you can submit them here!. Additionally, you can see upcoming events here!

Speaking of new threads, be sure to submit your threads to the IC RP Timeline submission thread, so they can be added to the list! January 2018

Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

We officially have two layouts! You can post here with any issues you find, or request any changes!

May 2017

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

April 2017

The layout is almost complete, but there is still a lot of work to be done; documents are being written up and can be found in the Site Map menu opion. Players can begin to move their characters' information to their Account Profiles, but be aware some changes may still be made and/or added.
If you find any bugs or issues, plese repot them here, and we will do our best to fix them in a timely manner.

“Oi! T!” Shouldering the door open, N’mor entered without a care in the world, knowing that their dragons would have well and truly warned one or both of them if his friend had company that didn’t need an audience. When T’ryn didn’t appear out of thin air at the sound of his voice, N’mor’s cheerful and bright smile faded into a frown and he peered around. After a few moments, he rolled his eyes and bounced with his father’s energy to the door of T’ryn’s bedroom, shouldering that door open, too. “Oi, you lazy bastard! Git out of bed!” Laughter fluttered in N’mor’s voice, and with a smirk he threw himself at the bed, landing on the lower corner and bouncing. He then stole most of T’ryn’s blankets.

“Happy Birthday.” N’mor teased, smirking mischievously at the sleep tussled man he called friend, hugging his armload of blankets and an air of false innocence. “You might want to get dressed,” he continued, nonchalant, “else our fathers will be here and sweeping you away for family celebrations.” Which was exactly what had happened for N’mor’s birthday just recently; he’d enjoyed a lazy morning and then bam before he knew it, he and Z’rin and anyone else B’jin and R’nd found along the way that was known to be family (or as good as) was swept off to Auntie Rell’s, where they were shoved full of food, booze, and good times.

It had been great, but it had also consumed all of N’mor’s birthday when he’d honestly just wanted to chill out with Z’rin and then go find T’ryn to spend the evening drinking and playing cards or whatever they decided on, like they had before N’mor had ended up mated. He missed those days, and so went out of his way to make time for his best friend. He was glad Z’rin was so relaxed and happy to let him do his own thing. He’d seen what some people could be like when in a relationship, and ‘me time’ had not been something his father had been allowed. N’mor did not want a love life like that!

“Get dressed,” N’mor commanded, grinning as he slid off the bed and turned, taking the blankets with him and jogging out the door; he didn’t look back, just in case T’ryn had no pants on. It was, after all, a distinct possibility. “I’m taking you shopping!” And he laughed, because he could imagine T’ryn’s indignant face.

T’ryn hadn’t heard the knock on the door and while Syrendryth was aware of N’mor’s presence, he hadn’t done anything to wake up his rider either. Mostly, the dragon wanted to see what came out of it and wasn’t disappointed when N’mor let himself in and bounced on the bed, startling T’ryn awake in a flail of limbs as he turned himself over from his stomach. “Nem! Wha?” He was awake but barely and his heart was racing from the jostled way he had been woken from his deep sleep. He had no idea why his friend was in his room and was struggling to keep his eyes open now that the fear of being attacked had passed. He yawned and was close to telling N’mor to shove off or stretch out, either or so long as it allowed for sleep, when the two magical words reminded him of what the day was.

Groaning, T’ryn did close his eyes again but not in sleep. It was more in an attempt to wish himself away while also berating himself for sleeping in--beecause N’mor’s next words definitely reminded him why he had initially wanted to get up early and hide somewhere in the wild for the day. Too bad he had stayed up late, worrying about how his birthday would go after seeing how N’mor’s had gone. A lot had happened in the past turn and he felt his friendship with N’mor was pretty solid again, though he knew it would never be like it was before feelings were revealed and then destroyed and then… well, he had made a lot of mistakes and was doing his best to move passed them but N’mor’s birthday was still weird with the family gathering and none of their old traditions being maintained.

He wasn’t sure he wanted to spend the day, or part of it, shopping but at least it would be with N’mor and he’d escape their smothering fathers for a bit. “Fine…” he mumbled when the blanket was taken away and gave another sigh as he watched N’mor walk off without even a glance back. Considering everyone that was close to him had the habit of just barging in, T’ryn never slept nude. It was close to it with just a pair of shorts since nights could still be rather hot when Ista felt like roasting them again, but it was enough to keep him decent for unexpected visitors. Still, a playful glance to tease at the idea of sneaking a peek would have been nice instead of being considerate.

T’ryn didn’t rush with getting ready nor did he take his time. It wasn’t an emergency that required everything being tossed on at a moment’s notice nor but the plan wasn’t really something he wanted to ignore and drag his feet for either. He took a moment or two longer than usual to pick out his birthday outfit and had to wet his hair to help get rid of the bed head a glance in his tiny mirror showed he was suffering from but in the end, he was ready and looking forward to the day.

“So, where we headed? Just down to the Hold?”

“Yeah,” N’mor shrugged slightly, and took a sip of – Faranth! – fruit juice he’d found on T’ryn’s bench. Hopefully his friend hadn’t drugged the stuff, but considering everything, not likely. Tossing back the last of it and putting the glass on the bench, N’mor walked with his friend out to the dragons who were resting on the ledge. “If we make it too obvious we’re avoiding them, they’ll take action next turn.” There was no point in having them make their birthdays even more miserable. N’mor really had to get Amorandii to spill when R’nd’s birthday was. B’jin knew, N’mor was sure, but he wasn’t likely to give it up, unless N’mor could get him really drunk first. Which, for all that N’mor was great at holding his liquor, this was B’jin and outdrinking the greenrider was not possible. Not if N’mor wanted to live.

Petting Syrendryth on the nose as he passed him, N’mor grinned mischievously at T’ryn. “I figure we can probably hide until lunchtime? Not sure if its worth risking their ire to eat then, but we can figure that out later.” Plus, Auntie Rell had amazing cooks in her kitchen, and was it worth going there with a bell full of mediocre food? Probably note, but it would depend on how the day went! “We’ll get some breakfast, though, and cake.” It was important to have cake on your birthday! Still grinning, N’mor climbed with practised ease onto Rhezalth and saluted his friend playfully before his dragon jumped up and backwards, toppling off the ledge before his big wings caught the wind and he shot up into the sky with N’mor still grinning like a lunatic under his riding helmet.

Even as they landed and left their gear with the dragons, T’ryn was still debating whether or not hiding all day would be worth the pouts and creative punishments their dads came up with. By the time they had finished the very healthy breakfast of cinnamon rolls—one of the few sweets he actually liked as a rare treat—he decided N’mor was right and it was better to just get family time over with instead of invoking their dads’ rights to make a missed meal into a three day bonding exercise.

Since it wasn’t a Gather, they only had the usual smaller selection of shops to wander through but T’ryn didn’t mind. He didn’t come down that often, at least not for himself, but still found that the crafters worked hard and always seemed to have something different on display. Last time he had been down, the local weaver had a new wall tapestry that reminded him of a sunrise. He was interested in seeing what was there now and perhaps purchase it for his weyr.

“I bet Ayontay will get to come this time,” his little brother had had a bit of a head cold for N’mor’s birthday and his Weyrlingmaster wouldn’t let him travel between, citing he needed a clear head and no distractions. None of them argued the point, not wanting to risk him though getting left behind did mean T’ryn had returned home with a bag full of leftover meats and treats from the table for A’tay. “He’s recovered and given who our dads are, there’s no way he won’t get permission to travel. Apparently the pair’s doing really well in all areas and he might even make it to Weyrleader before you,” T’ryn teased his friend and shoulder bumped him lightly with a grin. It was a lot easier to talk about A’tay and make jokes than it was to think too much on the fact that N’mor was still happily mated to someone else and his other ex had flown two weeks earlier and Syrendryth had entered for some reason and lost to a green that was actually a blue. What even was his life anymore?

Speaking of crazy… “Hey… opinion… Should I ask Mylo to come with us?” R’nd had figured it out a couple of months earlier that Mylorah wasn’t just a close friend to his sons that was willing to step in front of a charging bronze weyrling for fear it was going to attack Ayontay. T’ryn had even been given one of his grandmother’s rings to give to Mylorah along with the promise that R’nd would respect her wish if she continued to not want or need him in her life. She had cried at the time but also said she wasn’t ready. Knowing how stubborn she was, T’ryn didn’t think she ever would be.

N’mor tilted a smirk at his friend, eyes bright. “Only if he isn’t hunting down Madiquel,” but his tone was playful with a mock thoughtfulness as he tapped his chin with his pointer finger. “If he’s not, we could always bring up the subject to divert attention from yourself,” and N’mor grinned at T’ryn, knowing the other bronzerider didn’t enjoy being in the spotlight any more than N’mor did. A bright laugh was given at the Weyrleader quip, and N’mor shook his head in amusement, but opted not to dignify the remark with a response. He wouldn’t be surprised if the younger R’nd-brat made it to Weyrleader, and while N’mor still had his eyes set on the goal, he wanted to get into the swing of wings and all that entailed before he tried to claim a Weyr!

The previous smirk had been playful; the one N’mor issued in response to the Mylorah query was positively predatory. “Oh yes,” he growled, eyes lighting up with pure mischief and mayhem. “If you don’t, I’m going to tell Eridella that you have a sister and didn’t invite her along.” Of course, that threat obviously meant that Mylorah would be dragged along, if she didn’t come willingly. The fact that the girl had no dragon nor firelizard to fight for her cause would make it that much easier. A hoard of brothers, willing to give up the limelight in exchange for new blood being introduced? N’mor would have clapped his hands, but he was missing half the required appendages.

“Seriously. You’ll be totally forgotten and we can most likely sneak off before anyone notices, while they all fawn over Mylo and how beautiful she is and how terrible R’nd is for not bringing her by sooner.” A pause, and N’mor gave T’ryn a dirty look. “Of course, you suggest it now, and not when we could have used her during my birthday.” Laughing, N’mor took the sting out of the words by sticking his tongue out at his best friend and flinging his arm around T’ryn’s waist as they wandered towards whatever shop it was T’ryn had mentioned he wanted to peek in. “Granted, we can probably find another relative between now and next turn,” and he sniggered.

"You do realise that her childhood crush on you won't save you and she will probably kill you if you did that," T'ryn was laughing at the idea of dragging Mylorah along without giving her the choice, or even letting her know what was happening before they landed and she figured it out. Actually, he'd likely be the one to end up dead since she'd be flying in with him and he'd be the nearest target for her rage. The girl was annoyingly happy and positive and hard to anger, but he had a feeling that surprising her with family would be an easy way to invoke strong emotions.

At N'mor's quip about not dragging Mylorah along for his own birthday, T'ryn laughed again and only felt slightly bad for using his sister for a continuous joke. "Trust me, we don't have to look too hard for siblings," T'ryn knew of a few more that R'nd didn't know about but they were like Mylorah and didn't seem to care about knowing their father. One kind of did but wasn't sure they wanted the attention and the large family gatherings that came along with it so T'ryn did his best not to draw attention to them. After all, he had accidentally outed Ayontay with the family tree he left lying around when R'nd visited. At least Ayontay wanted to know the bluerider but had been too shy to say anything.

"Anyway, I'll ask her when we get back. She'll likely say no but... oh, I almost forgot!" T'ryn grinned at N'mor as he took his friend's hand and changed course. He wasn't huge on celebrating his birthday but he loved making sure his friends were well and truly treated on theirs. N'mor was a special exception where he got gifts on his actual day but also got something else when it came to T'ryn's birthday. He continued dragging his friend along, refusing to give even a hint about where they were going until they were at the counter of the leather worker.

"Hi! I placed a special order a week ago and was hoping it was ready," T'ryn had enlisted Z'rin's assistance with the mission. The bluerider had played distraction for an afternoon--and he could only imagine how--while T'ryn took N'mor's specially made riding boots down to the local master crafter and returned them later on. He knew his friend didn't need a new pair of those specifically, but his dress pair were getting a bit worn and it wasn't as easy to simply order a pair for him.

When the new pair was placed on the counter, T'ryn paid the other half of the marks and then held the boots up for inspection by N'mor. "Happy my birthday, Nem!"

N’mor laughed. “She can try,” he teased, grinning. “Between you, Zinni, our dragons, and Larrikith I’m not sure she’d stand much chance.” He smirked, entertaining the idea of the girl going head to toe against the aforementioned protectors. N’mor wasn’t quite sure who would come out on top, but he was sure it would give him plenty of time to get away! It would be sad, to lose his best friend, mate, and dragon to the angry young woman, but sacrifices must be made! N’mor snorted to himself as Rhezalth grumbled.

“I still think we should trick her into it; I could take her as a dat- Oi! Where are we going?” Laughter interrupted his half-mocking idea to get Mylorah to tag along, when T’ryn interrupted and grabbed his hand to yank him off in some random direction. Amused, N’mor trotted to catch up and then set his pace to match that of his friend, shooting T’ryn a curious look, eyebrows upraised and expression expectant, despite the refusal to give an answer. N’mor considered digging his heels in and being difficult, but knowing T’ryn, that wouldn’t work. Instead, he just shook his head in bemusement and went along for the ride.

A look of suspicion was given when T’ryn spoke about an order, and N’mor frowned. He wasn’t a stranger to T’ryn’s bizarre birthday gifting habits, but since they’d grown up in Katila, such gift exchanges had been small and, as a result, expensive only in the time it took to create or find them. N’mor could tell by the items on display in this particular leatherworking store, that the master who owned it was well ranked and a great craftsman. Which meant nothing here would be cheap. Not that marks were hard to come by – especially as young bronzeriders – but that wasn’t the point!

When the pair of boots was set down on the bench, N’mor’s eyes widened dramatically, and then he turned to scowl at T’ryn. There was no real heat in the expression, though, as N’mor shook his head at T’ryn’s cheerful exclamation. Picking up one of the boots from T’ryn, N’mor examined it for a moment, pleased with the work and the weight of the boot. Setting it down again, he took the partner and looked at it, too, before carefully setting it down. Turning back to his friend, N’mor scowled at him for a few more moments, before the expression warmed considerably. “Thank you, T.”

N’mor closed the distance between them so he could wrap his arm tightly around T’ryn’s neck for a moment, giving a strong hug. Breaking the embrace, he bounced back a couple of steps and quickly flicked the ties loose on his well-worn boots, so he could try on his new and impressive dress boots. N’mor stamped into them, before standing up straight. They fit well; the leather was tight and snug in a way that told him they’d be very comfortable once broken in, but he’d likely have a blister or two in the process. He didn’t mind; that meant the leather was sturdy and unlikely to fall apart as quickly as more supple slippers did.

“They’re fantastic,” He said, grinning at T’ryn, before glancing around for a seat and walking over to it to fight the boots back off his feet. “Though now I feel bad I didn’t think ahead to get you something -” he looked up and fluttered his eyelashes playfully, “you know, other than the wonderful delight of my company!” Glancing down, he finally managed to kick the first boot off, and pulled his sock back up before attacking the other.

T'ryn laughed when he was scowled at and grinned when he got a hug and thanks for the boots. He watched N'mor try them on and kept smiling when he saw that they not only seemed to be a perfect fit but that his friend loved them as well. He liked doing things for other people. Not only did he just feel good doing it, he quite enjoyed seeing the surprise and happiness it brought out in the recipient. Sometimes he wondered if the shock factor came from him being a bronzerider that was offering to help with drudge work and that thought bummed him out. For the most part, he didn't mind the way Weyrs worked but sometimes he hated the colour hierarchy.

"Thank you again, Sir. No doubt you'll be seeing some more business come through from the Weyr. I know I'll be in again soon," and he would be. Seeing how well-crafted customized boots were, T'ryn knew his regular style boots would be a simple task for the master but still be of great quality.

"And your presence really is gift enough," T'ryn replied to N'mor. He knew his friend was joking but it really was all he needed. He wasn't overly materialistic and his weyr was barren compared to N'mor's. Paper and ink for when he wanted to do someone's family tree, make up wings and formations, or create his own puzzles to challenge his friends with was a great gift, as simple as it seemed. As they walked away from the leather master, wandering aimlessly to whatever would be their next destination, T'ryn wondered if that made him boring or predictable. But it was who he was so did it matter? He wasn't going to change his interests or behaviour to make others view him differently. The thought had crossed his mind a couple of times after walking away from Casa but he wasn't like some of the men he knew she spent time with and he'd be too awkward in his own skin if he tried to be that outgoing. His only reckless and outgoing thing was sneaking off to explore the empty Weyrs. That reminded him, he still had Igen left to explore but he doubted Casa would come this time after finding the skeleton in High Reaches.

"But, if you do want to spend marks on me, I'm thinking about getting a wall tapestry or two." Since he was already thinking about it, he might as well share the info so N'mor could treat him. Sometimes he wished he had been as wise as his dad with not sharing when his birthday was. T'ryn was pretty sure B'jin still didn't know, though they all suspected Amorandii knew given the giggles she used to fall into when the topic was brought up.

N’mor nodded his thanks quietly to the crafter, and gave a small smile when the man handed him a bag to hold his boots. Putting the new pair in it and asking Rhezalth to drop into the nearest clearing so he could tie them to his riding straps, N’mor pulled his well worn and (currently) more comfortable boots on. Not that the new pair weren’t comfortable, N’mor just wasn’t interested in breaking them in in the middle of Ista Hold.

“You’re a dork,” N’mor laughed, following his friend out into the sunshine once more and leading them towards the clearing Rhezalth had found so he could give the dragon his boots, before returning to ambling aimlessly amongst the stores and stalls. When T’ryn finally decided to share what he was getting himself, N’mor grinned and gave a nod. “Okay!” He was still kicking himself for not having something organised for T’ryn’s birthday; he’d just have to make up for it with something ridiculous and hilarious next turn, he decided.

Giving T’ryn a hip-bump, N’mor pointed in a general direction towards their left. “There is a good weaver over there somewhere.” He said, grinning but confident. “I haven’t ordered anything special, but the stuff he has on display is always very good.” Two of his wall pieces came from there, as well as the heavy throw that covered the bed he shared with Z’rin – though T’ryn wouldn’t know that – it was a brilliantly coloured sunset with the black silhouettes of dragons buzzing through the sky over the ocean. N’mor had fallen in love with it as soon as he’d seen it.

T'ryn followed the path that led in the vague direction N'mor had pointed, though he wasn't too concerned about finding it as quickly as possible. There were other stalls along the way that they could linger at and T'ryn did his best to mingle with a smile when they did stop or were spotted by the seller of whatever wares they peddled. He knew not everyone had accepted the return of dragonriders and he had a feeling that even if he hid his rank, people would know him as an outsider for one reason or another so he was always mindful of what he said or did in the public. That didn't mean he was going to buy something from every stand they came across but he did compliment items that he genuinely did find well crafted and always wished the person a good day.

When they did find the weaver, T'ryn gasped several feet away. If he thought the sunrise one was beautiful, he didn't know what word to describe the one that caught his eye now. A few shades of green with some brown and black created a forest. How did people make such things? He couldn't even begin to comprehend the skill behind such art nor the amount of time it would have taken. Because of that, he was certain there would be a higher price attached to it since the master weaver no doubt did it. Still, it called to him, reminding him so much of the forest they grew up in. Not many knew, but T'ryn loved the forest surrounding Katila and often felt exposed living in a proper Weyr or walking around a Hold. The forest was comforting to him and he thought it would be the perfect thing for his living room. "Neeeem," he practically moaned his friend's name as it came out on a whisper while pointing to the tapestry.

"Good morning," he greeted the woman working with a bright smile and tried to contain his enthusiasm from spilling over. "I'm interested in the forest behind you. It's absolutely breathtaking. Did you weave it? Oh, and that one as well," he pointed to one that was partially rolled up but unravelled enough to show the pattern was an ombre of greens. It would offset the forest nicely. He'd also let N'mor get him that one since it would likely be cheaper and he didn't want his friend blowing all his marks on him.

N’mor wasn’t nearly the socialite that T’ryn was, and he had no plans to ever be. Instead, he walked quietly beside his friend, letting the other man mingle if that was what he wanted to do – it was, after all, his birthday – which was something N’mor injected into assorted conversations, enjoying immensely the expression T’ryn pulled and the fluttering of hands as whomever they were talking to suddenly felt the need to bestow the friendly bronzerider with a gift, wish him well, and flutter around like anxious insects. N’mor choked back laughter on more than one occasion, and his pale eyes were alight with mischief.

The sudden moaning of his name had N’mor reacting in a way he’d thought long buried; a shudder travelled his spine, making the small hairs stand up on end as heat bloomed through his stomach, and lower. N’mor flexed his shoulders, wide eyed and struggling to get himself back under control with a soft gasp. He shuddered, glad T’ryn was already well ahead of him and quizzing the master. Reaching out, even his mentality unsteady as he crashed into Rhezalth and sought reassurance from the one creature that knew him better than himself. It took a few moments to steady himself, and he strode quickly to join T’ryn as he added his last addendum to his purchase request and N’mor snorted.

“Let the man speak,” he drawled, tossing the master a wink as he rolled his eyes dramatically, falling with relief into the lazy familiarity of their friendship. Regardless, he was shaken, and was making a point of examining all the wares so he could avoid T’ryn’s gaze until he got himself steadily back on his feet and not feel like he was wobbling all over the place. He knew, outwardly, that no one would notice anything. But T’ryn wasn’t anyone and the bastard knew him too well. “This piece is nice,” he said mildly, giving a ghost of a smile as one of the older apprentices blushed crimson and haltingly claimed the work as his own.

T’ryn flushed with embarrassment at how excited he was and that it made him forget his manners. At least they knew how much he appreciated their work, though he supposed that meant there wouldn’t be any bargaining done since they knew he definitely wanted certain items. Not that he really bargained anyway. In his mind something was priced a certain way because of how much work went into it so why would be ruin someone else’s livelihood because he couldn’t spend one more mark?

He nodded at the price given for each and then proceeded to ask some technical questions that just ended up boggling his mind even further than it already was. But he really wanted to know about the time taken and if there had been a motivation behind the forest or other scenes the weavers put on their tapestries. He liked that he might be able to pass on the inspiration to others and let the memory of some hidden gem of a place stay alive in the minds of others.

Once he had taken a look at some of the others on display and learned more about the project and the person, T’ryn was ready to make a purchase. Some of the others were pretty as well, but his mind had been made the moment he saw the forest and there wasn’t anything that would change it. He asked for the green ombre one as well, still intent on hanging both in his living room. Maybe the forest should go in his bedroom since it brought him such comfort? No, he wanted to share it with any visitors and it was very unlikely it would be seen in the bedroom unless he purposely ran a tour to it.

As he dug out his small purse of marks from his bag, the master weaver waved it away. Apparently a certain someone had already paid for the forest since it was clear that one would end up coming home if nothing else did. Scowling at N’mor, T’ryn took out the required amount for the other tapestry and had the youngest apprentice help load him up with the larger item while the apprentice followed behind with the smaller one. Even if N’mor could carry one without difficulty, T’ryn wouldn’t have allowed it. His friend had just spoiled him and didn’t deserve having to work now.

The apprentice that wasn’t too much younger than him gawked at the dragons as he waited for T’ryn to secure one tapestry and then the other but he quickly headed back to the stall after the job was done. No doubt he didn’t want to linger in case the master was a strict one and punished him for dawdling. Once they were alone with the dragons, T’ryn turned another scowl on N’mor but it was a half-assed one and then he smiled. “I know I said you could buy me one, but I changed my mind”, after a pause for a chuckle and to make sure N’mor knew he wasn’t serious—not really, though he still felt weird being gifted such a thing, he added, “thanks, Nem. You and Z’rin will have to come over in the next day or two so you can be the first to see them hanging up.”

N’mor ignored T’ryn’s scowling at him with all the airs of innocence he’d picked up from his father, face a picture of serenity as he finished talking to the flustered young (though older than him) crafter, and wandered back to T’ryn as his fellow bronzerider was trying to pay. Smirking, partly to himself and partly at the crafter T’ryn was dealing with, N’mor dropped a good several marks over the top of his friend’s shoulder, and into the crafter’s hand. It wouldn’t cover all of the other item, but a good portion of it. Laughing, N’mor danced out of reach of any attacking elbows or flustered fists.

Not bothering to fight the losing battle that would be carrying one of the tapestries, N’mor strode along beside T’ryn, chatting casually as the flustered apprentice followed them. The young bronzerider mostly forgot about the poor kid (hah) as his conversation bounced between T’ryn, what they were going to do next, and sassy remarks to his dragon, who was rather happily insulting the Holderfolk, not that any of them could hear him – he certainly wasn’t trying to speak to any of the worthless bony meals. That just made N’mor laugh more, a sound that only turned to snorts and sniggers when the dragon peered down at the apprentice helping to load up Syrendryth, his expression designed to be intimidating and apparently working, though N’mor thought he looked rather hilarious.

“Good thing I bought you one and a half, then,” N’mor said, smiling cheekily. The mention of him bringing Z’rin to T’ryn’s place to view the hanging artwork caused a flicker of emotion to flash across N’mor’s face, though he squished it down before he even had any idea what the emotion was himself. Carefully shifting his face into mild amusement, N’mor snorted again. He was doing that a lot today! “You don’t actually think you’ll be able to hang it by yourself, do you?” He asked teasingly, lifting his eyebrows in a gently mocking way. “If you are, I want to watch.” He wasn’t sure, but N’mor was fairly sure that they would take a lot of work to hang, and with how fussy T’ryn could be, it would probably take hours for him to even begin to find the right spot.

N’mor laughed. “On second thought, I think I might be busy that day,” he grinned, prepared to dance out of reach again as he pulled a face at T’ryn, cheerful and full of mischief.

T’ryn oh-so maturely stuck his tongue out at N’mor when his friend pointed out it was one and a half tapestries he purchased. He was so insufferable sometimes. He was also sometimes logical and T’ryn frowned when it was pointed out it might be a struggle for him to try and hang everything himself. He was about to volunteer N’mor and Z’rin for the task of helping him hold the tapestries in the right place while he set about marking the spots for nails when N’mor laughed and successfully dodged the playful swat T’ryn tried to land.

“Fine, you don’t have to help hang them. Not sure I could trust you to keep your side level anyway,” he shot back, enjoying their easy banter that had been missed for so long when they weren’t talking and then finding their groove with each other again. “I’ll find someone more level-headed and taller to help me.” For the longest time they had been the exact same height but recently T’ryn had suffered a final growth spurt that saw him a couple of inches taller now. He both loved and hated it.

He turned back to take a moment to check the straps securing his treats one final time before satisfied that they weren’t going anywhere. “Okay, anything else we should do or head back, pester Mylorah, and prepare for the family?”
