Z'rin felt a bit guilty.

He thought he was a good friend, always there when he was needed and did his best to be fun and a good sport when hanging out with someone. But since moving to Ista and becoming mates with N'mor, he had a feeling he had neglected some people as he basked in how lucky he was to have such a wonderful man love him. To be fair, one of the friends he hadn't seen in a while had gone into labour early and while he wanted to rush there and see Indivara, he also knew everyone else would have and she'd be overwhelmed and fed up with people.

So he had waited a few weeks to give her time to recover from everything. R'vi hadn't spared any details on the pain and blood but promised Indivara was still just as prickly as she always was, even more so now. She either had already gone back to her weyrling class or would be soon; he couldn't remember the timeframe R'vi had mentioned, but Z'rin felt it was a safe time for a visit, a quick one if nothing else.

After convincing N'mor he wouldn't drown in a bath alone and without helpful wandering hands to keep him above water, Z'rin bathed, dressed, kissed his mate a bit longer than was needed, and mounted up for a trip to Telgar. He stopped at the Hold first, wanting to find a gift for Indivara. He ended up with a boquet of flowers he didn't know the name of reminded him of Indivara. They were a bit wild looking but also somehow tamed with their subdued colours. That was a good start but he wanted something else to show he missed her and was glad she was safe. A vendor from some small Hold in the area had travelled to the major Hold to sell the chocolates he made and Z'rin knew that was what he wanted to get her and a small box of bite-sized pieces was purchased. He then purchased a second one to bring back to N'mor as a treat for them that night.

Veeth and Venseth were both out on their ledge when Varralath appeared above the Weyr. A quick exchange between the dragons confirmed both of their riders were home and Veeth moved inside to give the larger blue more space to land and join them. He let the dragons to mingle and do whatever it was pestering blues did when they got together and he made his way inside. He waited a moment to let his eyes adjust to the slightly darker interior and waited just on the edge of the room to make his presence fully known, though a dragon likely already spilled the beans.

"Hey! Look who's back from his own self-absorbed bubble to check in on his favourite non-mama!" Z'rin grinned as he mocked them both. It wasn't the first time he called Indivara that and had explained it was because she'd given birth but didn't raise the child in any way that resembled being a mother. It hadn't really been an insult, just an odd nickname he'd come up with on the spot for his friend. He wasn't going to judge; just because he had claimed his daughter and did his best trying to raise her didn't mean everyone was cut out for that job. He was actually glad Indivara did give her daughters to Rhaedalyn. The Weyrwoman was always glowing when she had her kids near her so the gesture benefited multiple people.

Indivara was feeling more like herself, as she waddled across the weyr to the couch, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders like a cape and her fluffy socks helping her glide across the stone floor between rugs without having to actively walk. She knew she was supposed to ‘walk properly’, but she did that several times a day, toddling backwards and forwards to the toilet chambers, and then doing extra laps up and back the main hall to keep everyone happy. Primarily Val and Venseth. Faranth help her; Val didn’t say much, but Indivara had seen him looking at her in a manner that perfectly matched Venseth’s constant babying of her. She loved them both dearly.

The young woman had been allowed to come home again after the first seven days of the Healers keeping a close eye on her. She didn’t think she needed to be eyeballed so regularly, but had stopped complaining about it when someone (she couldn’t even remember who) told her that the majority of the people they’d done the surgery on had died. Considering Indivara was well aware of her own poor health history, she was rather surprised they’d taken the chance on her, never mind that she was doing okay. Well, honestly, as much pain as she was in, Indivara actually felt great. It was so good not to be pregnant anymore!

Smiling to herself, Indivara paused as she was passing Val at his desk, and slipped close enough to press against his side as she watched him work on a piece of writing. She didn’t bother trying to read it, she was just watching the way he moved his pen carefully through the strokes for the letters. When he finished his sentence or, whatever, and sat back a little bit, Indivara settled carefully on his knees and curled against him affectionately. They’d both been warned – multiple times – against sex, but their relationship was built on literally turns and turns of cuddles; the lack of sex didn’t bother Indivara – besides which, the idea of having sex made her feel physically sick. Probably a good thing, because her stomach was still in the beginnings of healing, and Val didn’t like blood and she was on some stupid post-pregnancy extended period.

Fucking joys of being a woman!

Leaning against Val’s right side, she tucked her head into the crook of his neck and let him get back to work as he held her obediently, not bothering with conversation and simply enjoying the easy, quiet companionship. It took her Val’s head shifting up before she realised the dragons were moving around and she could hear Venseth chirping and trilling. Indivara blinked, having more or less dozed off where she was sitting, and turned to look towards the entrance way from the ledge. She stared blankly for a second, before smiling with sleepy delight. “Hello, Z’rin!” her voice was slightly hoarse from not doing a lot (any) talking for the better part of the last six or so hours, and she kissed Val on the cheek but didn’t get up from his lap.

“Come join us,” she said cheerfully, a tinge of mischief in her voice as she nodded at the chair on the opposite side of Val’s desk; she knew her mate wouldn’t be thrilled about being joined by an ‘interruption’, but she didn’t want to move and Z’rin had come to visit so they should entertain him (even though Indivara would be leeching most of her entertainment from Val’s irritation). He would survive though, and she’d invited Z’rin to join where he had a row of books and other odds and ends keeping Val’s work private if he wanted to keep at whatever he was doing.

"I don't think V'ler's lap will hold both of us." Z'rin caught the gesturing to a chair but he purposely ignored it as he crossed the room, laughing. He placed a peck of a kiss to Indivara's cheek and held out the flowers for her to take. After giving one of his gifts, Z'rin took the chair that had been waved to, not even glancing at V'ler's notes--this time. The one time he had, Indivara had punched his arm and there was no need for a repeat, especially with the man with the quill in his hand there.

"You're looking well, tried, but well. I won't stay long, promise." Now that he saw Indivara for himself, he could see things R'vi had pointed out about her condition. He had warned that she seemed to tire easily, had to be what he figured was constant pain, and other small details that wouldn't be noticed unless you were looking or knew her well. He wasn't sure what else to say. He knew better than to further comment on her appearance if he didn't want to wither under a glare or have a sore arm as he was certain she'd still have enough strength to smack him with full power. Bringing up memories that probably already plagued her didn't seem wise either so asking about the labour and early days of recovery was also out.

So he pulled out the box of chocolates from his messenger bag and passed them over as well with a grin. "I am a firm believer in chocolate making everything better. Probably why I've put on some weight." He laughed, knowing that it likely was a bit too much chocolate recently but his injuries from the fire had left him incapable of walking let alone exercise. He needed to start doing more than the water therapy to help strengthen his leg but Z'rin had to admit to being a bit afraid of messing it up by doing more than he should, despite how long he'd been out of the cast. He didn't need the cane anymore and Z'rin didn't think he had a limp, or if he did, it wasn't prominent enough to catch too much attention.

“None sense!” Indivara said breathily, trying not to laugh. She knew from experience that laughing could still be very painful, and would probably remain such for quite a while yet. It was, shed decided, similar to when she’d been mauled. A lot of pain, a long recovery, and no sense of it having been at all worthwhile. She was sure the child and Rhaedalyn and such were feeling it was pretty worthwhile, but Indivara was not. Her tummy was a constant source of pain, and she hated it.

The kiss to her cheek had Indivara preening as she gave Val a smug smile, and lifted her eyebrows at him pointedly as she sniffed the flowers and hugged them to herself. Why was every bluerider she was friends with getting her flowers, but not the one she was mated to?! R’nd hadn’t made a habit of it, but he had surprised her on several occasions by presenting her with – usually – a single flower. Always beautiful, not always the same. She took great care of them, doing her best to extend their life and the thoughtfulness of the gift.

Lifting her face from the sweet scent of the flowers, Indivara have Z’rin a bland snort, and waved away his worry with a flip of one hand, the other still cradling her flowers even as she leaned into Val and made herself comfortable. She didn’t offer to let him smell the flowers – not that he’d likely care over much – but it was her subtle way of pouting at him. The other option would have been to shove them right up under his nose, but Indivara wasn’t going to risk the lovely gift.

When Z’rin followed up the flowers she was pointedly not letting Val near with a box of chocolates, Indivara couldn’t help herself. She took the box and peered into it, then set them delicately on the table out of Val’s reach. “Now I know who really loves me,” she said, her nose in the air as she delicately slid off Val’s lap and hobbled around the table to perch herself on Z’rin’s knee. She gave Val an expectant look as she sat there.

Her expression and words were carefully teasing, playful and inviting. But there was still the shadow of fear lurking in the background. She loved Val, he’d said he loved her, and she couldn’t actually think of any reason she should doubt him. But nonetheless, she couldn’t stop the timid fear that one day he’d take her teasing seriously, and then he’d be gone.

V’ler had long ago given up on the idea that he would ever have a quiet moment again. Even before Indivara started stealing his bed and they officially shared a weyr when the move North happened, but he did find it happened a lot more with her around given her tendency to collect friends. Since the surgery that saved both her life and that of their second child, V’ler was convinced there was a sign outside that invited everyone to pop in at least once a day. Not that he ever complained about it. He was glad she had friends and it was a rather peculiar emotion he always felt when he saw people care so much about Indivara. Such casual friendships filled with jokes, snark, and eye rolls still held a deep concern and affection.

When Z’rin arrived, he was content to greet his fellow bluerider and then go about his own business again as one of those friendships filled with jokes and snark had their bonding moment but Indivara didn’t leave his lap and invited the man to join him at his desk. When the flowers came out, he gave them a brief once over and was again going to leave well enough alone but then Z’rin brought out chocolates and won Indivara’s affection and skill in lap warming.

He snorted and rolled his eyes at her teasing about who really loved her, knowing it was a jab and that he didn’t have anything to actually worry about. “Don’t tell R’vi all he needed was flowers and chocolates,” he shot back with a small smile and then turned his attention back to his writings. He didn’t mind Z’rin but he was there to visit Indivara so he turned to tuning them out.

Z’rin laughed when he got a lap full of Indivara and laughed again when she teased her mate about who loved her. He watched the brief but playful banter and found he viewed it in a whole new way. Once, he used to long to have such an exchange with someone. He’d watch with envy all while wondering what it would be like. Maybe he’d worry sometimes the joke wouldn’t land and a fight would start. Now, though, he knew what it was like to have a mate and what it was to banter with them and how he understood that when mates knew each other so well, the joke was always right and a fight didn’t seem possible.

He wrapped an arm loosely around Indivara’s waist. He knew to be careful about her healing surgery cut and so his hand rested lightly on her thigh as his mind latched onto V’ler’s comment. It really wasn’t a secret that R’vi had puppy eyes for turns for Indivara, though he wasn’t sure if she ever had the same feelings. Likely not, since they never hooked up—from what he heard of the gossip anyway. It wasn’t like either of them would talk about it, despite R’vi’s easy way of talking about everyone he slept with. Still, while he decided not to comment on poor R’vi’s heart’s choices, Z’rin did wonder if chocolates and flowers would have helped him with their friend at all.

“I miss you, Indivara. I swear, I could always hear your voice coming from somewhere in the Weyr at any given time of day and Ista is much quieter.” It really was, Z’rin thought. He liked it and had spent months in Ista while recovering but Telgar had still been home in his mind during that time and regular sounds and routines he knew he’d once go back to were now a thing in the past and he missed it to some degree. “I’d like to have that peace shattered from time to time when you can travel again. Show you our weyr and watch as my mate tries to play nice.” Z’rin knew he was blushing even as he tried not to smile too brightly at the thrill he got over calling N’mor his mate.

Indivara was caught between pouting at Val’s quip, and giving him a dirty look. In all honesty, Indivara felt bad about R’vi’s crushing on her when she couldn’t return the feelings, and while they had teetered on the edge after Varlea had been born, nothing has ever come of it. Primarily because Indivara had freaked out and refused to let the subject gain any semblance of life. She dropped her eyes, uncomfortable, and set the flowers gently on the table before curling against Z’rin. She’s never told Val about her little bathtub adventure with R’vi, and wondered if it was something that should have come up, or if it was just a piece of the past that didn’t matter.

Indivara puffed out a little breath, and allowed Z’rin to sweep her up with his comments about her voice echoing through the Weyr; Indivara snorted in amusement. Her expression morphed from amused to wicked as she tilted her head to give Z’rin a look. “Oh, I’m sure the air is filled with other voices,” she said, eyes bright with mischief as she wiggles her eyebrows at her friend, grinning with success at his blush. Indivara laughed, and after a moment of continued torture, and latched on to the rest of his comment and cut him loose.

“Of course!” Indivara beamed, and patted Z’rin lightly on the stomach. “I’ll even bring Princess Grumpy Bum. Then we can have dinner and a show as they try to play nice together!” Indivara flicked a glance at Val to see if he was listening or had anything to say about her nickname for him in that moment – no doubt if he did, he’d twist it to mean someone else. He hadn’t even said anything, and Indivara was already irked by his quick comebacks. Preemptively, she stuck her tongue out at him before turning her attention back to Z’rin.

“So,” she said, turning a bright smile on her fellow bluerider. “Spill.” She had heard bits and pieces from assorted sources, but when she had one of the main people sitting securely under her – and was quite confident he wouldn’t toss her across the room in her current state to escape – Indivara wasn’t about to let Z’rin go without all the latest details of his love life.

Z’rin felt the nickname for V’ler could fit N’mor as well and V’ler’s reaction with a slight shake of his head as if he wasn’t going to dignify that with a response would possibly also match what N’mor would do. Given what he knew about both men, there was also a chance a sassy comeback would happen if they were in the mood. They definitely had to get together for a visit with all four of them as it truly would be a show. He knew N’mor would be well-compensated afterward for playing nice and no doubt Indivara would see V’ler was as well. They’d all win in the end.

“It’s wonderful, Indivara,” Z’rin gushed and rested his head on her shoulder. What else would she want to know? He didn’t know how much information was too much information both for Indivara’s comfort’s sake and that of N’mor’s. Z’rin wasn’t overly a private person but he wasn’t really outgoing when it came time to share. Although he never really had much to share thanks to living a fairly quiet life when he wasn’t around his rambunctious friends. Sitting up straight again, Z’rin gave the topic a moment’s consideration and felt some generalization was a good enough place to start and she could ask questions from there.

“We laugh a lot, we’re intimate a lot, um… we can curl up on the couch together and enjoy the company and wine in silence and it’s not weird. N’mor’s amazing with my daughter. You should have seen him when we told her I was relocating. He was so worried! Zara and I both found it adorable—just like I find her crush on him adorable. Not sure if he’s noticed it, though. Oh! He’s teaching me to play guitar.” Well, his brief generalization seemed to be rather long-winded still but he didn’t care. Indivara asked for him to spill, so he was! He grinned at her all the while as well, still far too happy with how everything was going in his life.

Indivara laughed softly, patting Z’rin gently on the tummy again when his head rested on her shoulder. The gushing was both surprising, and endearing, and Indivara waited for the juicy stuff to be shared. She really was happy for her friend; she might not have been the one to drag him into their group (she had a feeling that had been the twins, but couldn’t really recall) but he’d handled her snarky style of friendship well, once he’d realised it was who she was and not, well, personal. It probably had helped that she was almost as much of a misfit as he was – what with being the youngest of their group. She could have been the ring-leader of the group N’mor had been a part of, but Indivara had preferred to latch on to the elder ones.

The babble of information that came made Indivara’s eyes sparkle, and she grinned at Z’rin, thrilled for him. True, not so long ago she most likely would have mocked him, partly for being so sappy and partly for well… okay almost entirely for being so sappy. Indivara figured it was Val’s fault for the most part, but growing up and her various brushes with death (either literal or exaggerated) likely also played a part. Regardless, she knew she’d mellowed a lot. Oh, she still had all her teeth and wasn’t afraid to cast biting comments when called for, but she also knew she was less when around her friends. R’nd had told her it ‘looked good on her’ and she recalled Par’a saying something similar. Had she ever looked as ridiculously giddy as Z’rin did right then, though?

Faranth she hoped not! Her dragon’s dry quip shattered any hope of that, though, and Indivara opted to ignore the blue lump and instead focus on teasing Z’rin. “Just so you’re aware,” she teased, grinning, “I’m all done producing offspring for other people.” Two was two more than she’d ever planned to have, and certainly more than she’d planned to keep herself! Several times during her pregnancy, she had wondered if she and Val would ever actually want a child for themselves (in the far future), but it had never come up and after Vadira’s birth, she was rather afraid of ever being pregnant again. She was more than a little afraid of dying.

Indivara blinked when she realised the last thing Z’rin had tacked on there, and she tilted her head. “He’s teaching you to play guitar?” She frowned slightly. “Isn’t that kind of hard, with only one hand?” Her smirk turned wicked again, and she gave Z’rin a devious look. “Though I’m sure he’s quite capable of compensating.” Her own laughter reminded her of something else Z’rin had said, and she twisted on his lap, putting both hands on Z’rin’s shoulders in mock severity as she leaned forward, staring up at him with playfully wide eyes. “Wait. Mr. Serious knows how to laugh?” She pinched Z’rin’s arm, checking he was awake, “You sure you didn’t have a really wild wet dream?”

Z’rin returned the grin, though he honestly hadn’t considered Indivara—or anyone, really—to play baby maker for him. He didn’t think N’mor was ready to be a dad yet and he, himself, was find with his one daughter for the time being as well. Maybe in the future they’d discuss being full time fathers and how to go about it but now wasn’t the right time given how wrapped up in each other they were and, Z’rin had to admit, how young N’mor was. No doubt B’jin would kill one or both of them as well for making him a grandpa. But no matter when it happened, if it did, he’d never consider asking Indivara. He loved her far too much to ever want her to risk herself for him.

He chuckled at her confusion and didn’t take offense on N’mor’s behalf for her comment. His mate had likely heard it all by now and some things were a bit hard to imagine doing with only one arm, like playing guitar. “He doesn’t play anymore but he’s a very thorough instructor and knows I work well with positive reinforcement when I get the fingering right.” Z’rin waggled his brows at Indivara, knowing she’d get the play on words easily enough. V’ler seemed to as well if his snort of laughter was anything to go by. “You should have seen my motivation levels rise when I was doing therapy for my leg.” N’mor really was the only thing keeping him going with that. After the first session, Z’rin had started to think a limp wouldn’t be too bad to live with but N’mor kept pushing him and rewarding him until it wasn’t a chore to work at it and finally ditch the cane only recently.

“And yes, he knows how to laugh, and I’m living a really wild wet dream. No need to have them while sleeping. I need the rest to rebuild my strength for the next day of fun.” He knew he just left himself wide open for the jokes about the difference in age but they didn’t bother him. “I’d share more details but V’ler’s here and they aren’t the sort of things to discuss in front of polite company.” Z’rin was biting his lower lip after he said that, doing his best not to burst out laughing. They all knew V’ler was anything but polite and the poor man probably had just as active a sex life as Z’rin did, only one of them was having it with everyone thanks to a dragon and the other was doing everything with only one man.

Indivara gave a choked laugh, spluttering at Z’rin’s teasing even as she glanced at Val when he snorted, her eyes bright and expression affectionate. Val has somehow turned her into the absolute worst kind of sappy lovey girly thing, and honestly, Indivara had trouble being angry with him for it, especially in moments like the current one, when he was being so perfectly and beautifully Val – she smiled at him softly, even though he was about ninety-percent focused on his work. The other ten percent, Indivara knew, was divided between paying attention to her conversation with Z’rin, and pretending he wasn’t.

She turned back to look at Z’rin, her expression fading slightly, and she unconsciously lifted a hand to run along the scar that was still visible on her lower lip. It had faded with the turns, but it was still there, it was still obvious, and it was probably more hindered than helped by Indivara’s tendency to chew on it when she was thinking. “Therapy isn’t fun,” she murmured, before burying her own references – too many memories of Talian growling at her as he worked with her on her speech and recovering movement and motion in the muscles of her face after Hoth had shredded them – and instead she raised one playful eyebrow at Z’rin (hyper aware of every one of her scars in the process) “I’m sure that wasn’t the only thing that rose,” Indivara said, with all the airs of innocence she could dredge forth.

Outright laughter was the primary response Z’rin got for his wet dream comments, and Indivara shook her head. “You old people need your recovery time,” Indivara said with mock gentleness, patting Z’rin gently on one arm, and flicked a smirking expression towards Val; she knew Z’rin had more than a few turns on N’mor, but she had a feeling he either didn’t know, or had forgotten, that Val had a solid ten turns on herself. Her smirk turned devious, and she tilted her head as she looked up at Z’rin from the corner of her eye. “Though I hear someone has been sharing a rather special workaround…” she wiggled her eyebrows, “do tell,” she added.

Indivara herself had no interest in ever drinking Casa’s special concoction that no shortage of her Candidates had been whispering about. Indivara was convinced it was one of the worst kept secrets amongst the younger riders and older candidates. The idea of it freaked her out, and the idea of Val taking it and coming home all raging full of liar that wasn’t him terrified her. Veeth inspired lust was fine (sometimes she was quite convinced the little blue went out of his way to make sure Val came home to her still slightly loopy and unfucked) but… Indivara liked their relationship, and their sexlife, as it was. Maybe they weren’t greenies, and maybe they were ‘boring’ (Parella) but Val made her feel beautiful, and loved, and she didn’t want some stupid concoction running that.

But — that didn’t mean she was against hearing her friend babble about his experiences. Or refuse to. Whatever made him more entertaining was fine with her! Indivara grinned, a slow and predatory expression as blue eyes glittered playfully.

Z’rin had a genuine moment of not knowing what Indivara was talking about as he stared at her with his confusion quite evident on his face. Only after he played her words over again in his head and the way she emphasised some of them that he started to clue in and eventually laughed with a bit of a groan tossed in as well. “That is difficult to explain. Other riders seem to be in agreement with the best way to describe it is to think of Flight lust. You’re just as horny as then but your mind and actions are still yours. And your stamina is through the roof.”

Yes, he was probably turning a bit red in the cheeks again from the conversation but Z’rin decided it was more from having it with Indivara than the actual topic. Still, he continued, figuring it was better to give her the details than have her come up with her version and judge or tease him forever for what was created in her head. “It’s really wild and I might try it again one day for a special occasion, but it’d have to be half the dose.” He still wasn’t sure if he almost lost N’mor the day he joked about taking it to celebrate his recovery so he wasn’t about to ever bring it up again. If N’mor did, Z’rin would study him closely to make sure he wanted it and wasn’t doing it because he thought that was what his mate wanted. They truly didn’t need the extra help in their sex life and Z’rin would be fine never having it again. He had everything he wanted and loved it all how it was.

Indivara lifted an eyebrow, tilting her head slightly as she considered Z’rin’s description of the herbal drink. “Interesting,” she allowed, though there was a crinkle to her nose that belied her lack of that particular interest in the stuff. Indivara wasn’t really a fan of flightlust; she let herself tumble into it on the rare occasions that Venseth felt the need to give Chase, but he wasn’t much interested as a whole and hadn’t Chased once while Indivara was pregnant.

“I think I’ll pass,” Indivara said dryly, but her expression was amused. “Though I’ve heard some very interesting things about your camping trip.” Some of her Candidates hadn’t been as subtle as they thought they were – though it probably helped Indivara that she was tiny and moved with a quiet grace when she wanted to sneak around and eavesdrop on her kids. She had learned a lot of things, doing that, and was still quietly smug about the fact that none of them had figured out how she knew things she shouldn’t know.

Tilting her head again, Indivara got carefully of Z’rin’s lap with a wave of her hand that indicated she’d be right back. Wandering into the kitchen, she filled three glasses with fruit juice, and brought them back, carefully holding them all. She put Val’s down on the little coaster that kept his work safe, and then dug up a spare one to join her own and set down her and Z’rin’s glasses on them. She’d humoured Val when he asked her to use the coaster the first time, but it had become a habit and while she still found it amusing, she hadn’t teased him about it for a long time. Maybe she’d buy him some pretty ones for Turnover or his birthday?

The thought made her smile to herself, as she propped her hip against the desk and considered Z’rin once more. “How long have you two been together?” She asked, curious. “Officially and unofficially,” she added, smiling slightly. She wanted to get a feel for her friend’s relationship – Indivara could tell that Z’rin was in deep – and while she didn’t have any particular issues with N’mor, she didn’t really care for him over much, either. Obnoxious child of B’jin’s that he was. Therefore, she needed to know how ready she should be to beat him for hurting her friend. Indivara smiled innocently – not so innocently as to make Z’rin aware she was plotting his mate’s death, but just… a small and genuine smile.

Z’rin groaned again as Indivara made it known that she knew about things that had happened at the camping trip. She was good at bluffing so there was a chance she actually didn’t, but he had a feeling she actually had overheard details from some of the Candidates that had attended. “I assure you, N’mor and I kept each other completely occupied and away from all of the antics you have and have not heard about.” He was a bluerider and pretty open to anything, but group sex and being on display like everyone around them had been, weren’t high on his list of things to try. He felt rather bold having sex on the beach with people nearby with the dragons blocking the view so jumping to that level of a free for all was a bit far away still.

Indivara was also a master of schooling her features so Z’rin didn’t notice any plots for murdering his mate on her face as she asked her question that earned a soft chuckle. “We officially met the summer of last turn and I think it took about six months before we met again for a friendly and slightly awkward drink and then after only a few weeks, I think, I went to visit him but got caught in a maiden Flight. I still went and saw him after I cleaned up and that would be when we hooked up unofficially, which was early into this turn.” The next day, Z’rin had practically drowned in guilt, convinced that he had taken advantage of N’mor’s kindness while he had still been shaking off the remnants of the Flight. He was so happy he didn’t go running out the door apologising and never looking back due to shame!

“Officially, we’re nearing two months. Your eventful Hatching stirred something in N’mor and he’s the one who brought up taking us seriously and living together. Then days later we’re in our weyr and his dad shows up with R’nd for a mini celebration for us being mates.” Z’rin was grinning as he shook his head in disbelief. That was another wild night—and a horrible morning after. He was the son of fishermen, his blood was practically already alcohol but Z’rin found out he did indeed have a limit and that he crossed it that night.

“Oh! R’nd confessed to us that he considers himself mated to B’jin. You should have seen how quickly B’jin moved into R’nd’s lap! I was getting ready to drag N’mor off to the bedroom to give them some privacy.” Everyone knew those two were mates but everyone was also smart enough not to actually say it around them. R’nd had strange views on relationships and feelings –thanks to N’mor, Z’rin had learned more about some of the antics—but since everyone adored R’nd, no one said anything to make him panic. He was fair game now, though.

Indivara laughed lightly at Z’rin’s defence, the sound cutting off quickly though on account of her tender stomach and she gingerly pressed a hand to the stitches that were holding her insides in. Blasted child. Speaking of children, Indivara’s expression morphed into a teasing smirk when Z’rin admitted he’d been unofficially seeing N’mor since the previous Turn. “So when he was like, twelve and a half,” Indivara said teasingly, shaking her head with mock disgust. She knew N’mor was actually older than that – but she wasn’t exactly sure how much older. She had a feeling he’d been about twelve when he Impressed, and that was when the Landslide happened… but… Indivara shrugged to herself, nose scrunched up. Stupid numbers.

“That’s sweet,” Indivara said gently, stepping forward and kissing Z’rin lightly on the cheek before he could take offence to her teasing. She decided not to comment on the Hatching, but instead smiled wryly and shook her head slightly. Of course it would be her Hatching, and she shook her head again, making her way back over to Val and wriggling in against his side. She opted not to steal his lap again, but leaned lazily against her mate and continued to chat with her friend.

The information about R’nd and B’jin had Indivara’s eyebrows arching upwards quite swiftly, and she snorted. “Well, that certainly explains a lot,” she mumbled, dry but amused, and gave Val a poke in the ribs to elicit his agreement. She hadn’t seen them together much, but the way B’jin had been glowing like a gold in heat for the past several weeks. Knowing the cause, Indivara was both amused and not really surprised that his bright glow hadn’t worn off; the man wore his heart on his sleeve. Indivara was, of course, completely blind to the fact that she’d been incredibly similar when she and Val became something real, instead of the platonic friendship no one had believed they were.

Z’rin knew Indivara was teasing him about N’mor’s age but also knew she wasn’t too far off the mark. He was nearly a decade older than his mate and he had been all too aware the entire time that N’mor was rather young, though still an adult even in the eyes of Holders. If he hadn’t been left in the South, he would have been married off to a girl of his father’s choosing to help forge a new alliance with a family or Hold by the time he was sixteen—the age N’mor was upon their first meeting. Besides, the bronzerider acted a lot older than he was most of the time and truthfully, and maybe one day he’d even confess it to N’mor, Z’rin felt about N’mor’s age. His life before travelling South seemed like a distant dream and his early turns at Katila were a jumble of trying to fit in and find himself. He honestly felt like his life truly began once Varralath found him. Having a nine turn old daughter was the only thing really reminding him of his actual age.

“I can just imagine how insufferable B’jin has been since that night,” Z’rin laughed, easily picturing the greenrider practically floating around the Weyr with how happy he had been in their living room. Maybe he would go peek in on the pair after his visit here to see for himself if B’jin was still acting like he was that night and to just say hi since he liked them both. Speaking of that, he should probably excuse himself now before he wore Indivara out.

Getting to his feet, he smiled at how easily Indivara fit against V’ler and the comfortable vibes he got from it. V’ler was writing but didn’t seem like he was inconvenienced by Indivara nor was he annoyed that they had been chatting beside him. V’ler was a good man for his friend. They were so opposite that they balanced. “I should get going. I only wanted to bring the gifts and see for myself you’re still just as stubborn as always with nothing keeping you down. Ry said as much but none of us ever actually take him at his word,” he winked at Indivara, a little joke between them and the little group of friends that had adopted him so long ago. R’vi was a good guy and he was a loyal and trustworthy friend but he was also fun to pick on and even he knew it and went along with it.

Indivara frowned slightly when Z’rin said it was time to go, her fingers drifting slowly through the hair at the nape of Val’s neck. Nonetheless, she nodded slightly and didn’t put up an argument; not because she wanted Z’rin to leave, but because now that he’d mentioned it, she could feel how tired she suddenly was, and it took a lot of effort not to give in to the yawn cruising through her blood. Instead, she kissed Val on the temple and stepped away, walking Z’rin over to the ledge where their dragons were all chilling out.

Chatting casually as they met the dragons, Indivara made Z’rin promise to visit them (her) again soon, completely unaware of her tendency to speak in plurals, even though her friend group didn’t tend to cross over with Val’s very much. Not that either of them didn’t like the other’s friends, but Indivara had noticed they tended to run in different circles, when they bothered to socialise (or when Val did, anyway; she was much more social than he was, in her opinion). Giving Z’rin a gentle hug, she watched as he loaded himself onto his dragon and they took off from the ledge. Smiling, Indivara wandered over to her own blues, and cuddled with both Venseth and Veeth for some time, until her exhaustion finally caught up with her, and she was shooed off to bed by her anxious dragon.

Making her way back inside, Indivara stopped in the kitchen to make her evening cup of medical tea, humming one of Val’s tunes under her breath as she waited for the water to heat. A few minutes later, sipping on her tea, Indivara wandered back over to where her fellow bluerider was still working on… well, whatever he was working on. Setting her mug down carefully away from his papers, Indivara wrapped her arms around Val’s neck from behind, and leaned against him, nuzzling against his cheek. “I’m going to bed,” she said softly, pulling back just slightly and smiling with bright affection before kissing Val lightly on the lips.

“Don’t eat all my chocolates!” She warned, eyes bright and playful, before untangling herself from him, albeit with lingering touches, and picking up her mug of tea. Glancing at Val with affection once more, Indivara made her way slowly to the bedroom, humming his tune under her breath again and frowning as she tried to remember where she’d left her favourite shirt of his that morning. Or afternoon, really, since she’d been particularly lazy and slept in, clinging to her mate like before; arms and legs and hair tangled all around Val, warm and secure and comfortable. A little bounce entered Indivara’s hobbling steps, deciding she’d be lazy the coming morning, too.
