Amorandii pranced happily through the gardens of Telgar Hold, a smile on her face and a bounce to her step. She had no lessons today and she was happy to have a bit of freedom to do as she wished. Spring was her favorite season and a very welcome respite after the coldness of winter. Leaves were growing on the trees again and flowers were blooming, releasing their sweet fragrance into the air.
The day was beautiful, and the sun warmed her as she strolled. On an impulse, Amorandii had taken off her shoes so that she could feel the soft grass tickle between her toes. The embroidered slippers swung in one small hand, and she suddenly twirled round and round and round, just to watch the way her pretty pink skirts billowed around her.
When she stopped twirling, slightly dizzy, her attention was caught by a butterfly with iridescent gossamer wings that was flitting among the verdant bushes. It lit for a moment upon the petals of a pretty yellow flower, and Amorandii crept closer ... very very quietly … to get a better look. As if sensing her presence, the butterfly rose into the air, winging around her head before fluttering away, hovering a moment as if it wished to play a game with her.
Laughing in delight, the child gave chase, pulling up her skirts with her free hand so that she could run more easily. She knew that she would never catch it, but it was fun to try and she kept her eyes on the delicate creature. Not really paying attention to where she was going, she tripped over the root of a tree and tumbled to the ground, crying out in surprise as she fell.
