Fort Boundaries:
Winter -3 - 2 C | 26 - 35 F
Fort is already home to snowfalls, though early in the month they fade away when the sun rises. As the month progresses, more snow stays on the ground, ending up with several feet of snow before the month is over. The areas around homes and populations has the snow shoveled away or trodden down. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove some danger and are routinely removed.

Ista Boundaries:
Winter, 9 - 21 C | 48 - 69 F
Generally warm enough to go about without a jacket on, Ista has low humidity but high chance of rain, generally in the form of vicious afternoon thunderstorms. The storms wash away any bite of heat the day had, and leave it feeling fresh for the night. The days are short, but grow bright quickly and the afternoons seem to be particularly short when heavy thunderstorms roll in and cover the sky.

Telgar Boundaries:
Winter, -5 - 0 C | 23 - 32 F
Bitterly cold, with icy winds constantly flowing down from the mountains. Freezing rain is almost constant; the sky always a murky grey and the ground slippery with slushy refrozen ice. The days are extremely short, with the nights dropping a good number below the daily average. Icicles attached to Weyr ledges prove a major danger, and are checked upon every day, with anything bigger than a fist being removed.


Month 07, 740 AL

Fort Boundaries:
Summer 27 - 38 C | 80 - 100 F
Light breezes down from the mountains tot he North keep the temperature comfortable, even when the sun can bake an egg on the edge of a weyr. Sunburn is common.

Ista Boundaries:
Summer, 34 - 43 C | 93 - 110 F
A very dry, dusty heat. Little to no rain, causing more than some to worry about the drought not breaking and the rest of the Isle being at risk of fires. Many seek the depths of weyr, hold or hall during the midday and early afternoon heat.

Telgar Boundaries:
Summer, 26 - 35 C | 79 - 95 F
Muggy, sticky and generally just plain humid. Thunder storms are regular occurances, often happening in the early afternoon or evening, with heavy rainfall before drying off sometime in the night. Mornings are usually crisp, but warm up swiftly.

Spring has sprung, with the snow slowly melting in much of the North, creating mushy grounds and greyish, icy snow piles that are doing their best to melt. In comparison, Ista finds itself naturally warmer, (~10C / 50) and many people who can find rides are making their way to the Island to spend some time in warmth and sunshine, away from the lingering touch of winter.

Katila is beginning to cool down to more reasonable temperature, but is no less muggy and uncomfortable to those who are not used to the seasons. It is still a good place to escape to when seeking a warm day or a nice swim at the lake, though.

Winter has come slowly to the Northern lands of Pern, with more rain and cold winds than snow. As the month progresses, more and more snow will fall, with frequent blizzard-like storms towards the very end of the month. Telgar and Fort will in particular become burried under mountains of snow, while Ista is sunjected to frequent icy rainstorms, and heavy winds coming in from across the ocean.

Following the disastrous fires (sometime in around the 28th of Month 08), Ista Isle has found itself suddenly in the midst of constant rain; not enough to flood, but a steady, dreary downfall that seems to only take a time out for a couple of hours here and there, before coming back again. Its cast the entire sooty Isle into a sombre and depressed mood. Alongside the rain, the weather is muggy and while not hot, is not particularly cool, either.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Many individuals who called Ista Island home have been relocated not just to Ista Weyr, Ista Hold or Sea Cliff Hold, but also to other areas of Pern, whether with family or friends.

Ista is still unseasonably warm - 37 to 45 C - has resulted in an incredibly dry summer, with little to no rain. This was climaxed by a dry thunderstorm, the results of which caused three fires to start across the Island on the 24.07.739 in the early morning hours. While the results of this are yet to be played out, the events will no doubt leave more than just the scarring of the land.

The rest of Northern Pern is getting their usual weather, though they, too, have been called to action following the wildfires that savaged Ista. Autumn is coming to an end, with the days slowly becoming shorter still, with early nights and late mornings. The temperature is getting very cool, with jackets being more required, but it has yet to actually snow. Despite this, it is often raining and miserable.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. The skies are bright blue with fluffy clouds, and occassional sunshowers bringing a dampness to the day. The nights are still crisp, but not cold. The ground is starting to dry up as water is absorbed by the blooming flora.

North: Mid Autumn | South: Mid Spring


Autumn is in full tilt, with the leaves a shocking array of orange and red, and more of them on the ground than on the trees. The skies are often a clear and crisp blue, with a cool breeze flowing, shifting the leaves and sending them scattering. Rain is not common, but when it does roll in the skies are dark like night come early, and thunderstorms are not uncommon, though they don't last for long and the amount of rain that falls isn't too heavy.

The Southern contient is in full bloom, with flowers coming to life in the grasses and on the trees. Nothern regions are entering into Autumn, with the trees beginning to change to their reds and oranges, while the air is beginning to feel more crips. There are still more warm days than cool, and the nights are mostly warm enough for light bedding still. Rain has faded away and most days are clear and bright.

The Southern contient finds itself heading into spring, with rain and flowers vying for attention. The ground is often muddy and squishy, while the skies are either bright and blue, or overcast wtih fluffy clouds.

Month 08, 738 AL
North: End Summer | South: End Winter


Summer is winding to an end in the Northern hemisphere, with the weather slowly cooling and the trees beginning to turn their leaves. The days are still long and bright, but the sun is beginning to lose some of its strength.

The coastal Weyrs are falling victim to coastal storms, strong winds and heavy rains with thunder and lightening.

The more inbound Weyrs and Holds find themselves drier, not getting nearly as much rain or storms, they find themselves on the end of a long drought.

Month 07, 738 AL
North: Mid Summer | South: Mid Winter


Summer is in full spring in the Nothern hemisphere, with the bulk of each day being unbearbly hot, followed by vicious thunderstorms and heavy humidity in the evenings and at night.

The coastal areas are experiencing monsoon like weather, and spend a lot of their time locked away in Hold, Hall or Weyr.

The more inner locations find themselves faced with more dry heat during the day, and horrible humidity in the evening and at night while the thunderstorms rage.

ITS AN UPDATE! HOORAH!

I'm not dead, my loves! This month's Event is 'Close Call!' - have fun! Stamps will be uploaded and on display in our Discord chatroom.

There is a topic here for discussion about Pernese religions and belief systems, including in and out of Weyr opinions (variably and as a whole) in regards to delicate matters, such as birth, death, and the afterlife. Also, ghosts anyone? Now I'm imagining a giant arse dragon ghost....

Healer Hall is accepting Gold Candidates (just from Fort, for now) and R'nya will soon be discussing with his Weyrwoman Rhaedalyn the merits of bringing in additional female candidates.... on the condition they are approved for Healer Apprenticeship...

Thallyath, Casa's little gold dragon, will be taking to the skies for her maiden flight in the first week of April (IC date will be 740-04-01) and while a mate is already decided, this clutch will be PC and more candidates are ALWAYS welcome, whether you want them to Impress this round --- or not!

Spring is here! ... In Australia, anyway!

This month’s riveting event is ‘Seas of Fun’, in honour of International Pirate’s Day! After all the drama with the fires, we expect that taking to the sea (or lake, river, pond, etc) would be a very relaxing way to spend some downtime for many dragonriders and Holderfolk alike!

In preparation for October, the even is “Memories of the Past”, which we hope will be a fun way to explore your character’s past, either in solo posts or threads, as inner monolog or as back posting! How you choose to partake is entirely up to you!

October will also see our next PC HATCHING! In order to have your Candidate qualify for Impression, they must have no less than 20 posts! There are lots of characters floating around who would be more than happy to help your Candidate breech that count! Don’t forget to also UPDATE YOUR APPLICATIONS where applicable, or make sure it is submitted at all! We can’t Impress your character if we don’t know what they should be getting!

ITS AUGUST! Do you know what that means? It means its less than 4 months until Christmas! OMG.

Okay. So moving on! This month sees us (hopefully) wrapping up the Camp Kink event! Who doesn’t love an abundance of young adults exploring their sexuality without restraint? Its been a hell of a fun ride (haha get it?) so far! Can’t wait to see what the grapevine makes of it when words gets out … haha!

On a more serious note, this month will see us engaging in the Istan Wildfires! This event is a free for all! Feel free to have your characters interact with the event in any way you feel is suitable! There is a lot of room here for personal dramas, trouble making, hero worshiping, etcetera! We really want to see how characters interact with, and dictate, the outcome of the event!

Welcome to the new month! Like always, I'm slack in getting the update up and running, but here it is! This month we have the event 'Summer Fling' - [Link] - which is turning out to be all kinds of entertaining already! Remember, it doesn't have to include smut! This month also saw Gold Bedith of Mulrissa take to the skies! She was won by young Syrendryth of T'ryn! Congrats, and may your Hatching be less dramatic than the last one! Welcome to the New Year, one and all! We hope you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season, and we can't wait to see what your characters will get up to over the next twelve months (and beyond!). The Secret Santa Event has been extended until the 30th of January, so for those of you (like me!) who were busy over the end of December, we hope you can get your threads up and running over the next few weeks! There has been a lot of interesting interactions so far! As we extended the SSE, there won't be a specific January event this month! Don't worry though, we have something up our sleeve for February!

With the end of December, our Christmas layout has gone back into hiding! You'll be able to use it again at the end of the year, when Christmas again rolls around. You can expect a new layout for the site in the near future.

And so it is December! Can’t believe how fast this year is flying by! At any rate, we have LOTS of fun for you this month! For starters, why don’t you sign up for our Secret Santa Event! Pairs will be assigned on the 14th! You can sign your character(s) up as a Giver, a Receiver or Both! We also hope that you enjoy our Christmas layout, which will be available for use for the entire month of December! After that, it will go into hiding until next Christmas!

We will also be awarding the HORRIFYING MOMENTS stamps to those who qualified for them, as well as the WORDS OF THE MONTH for November. We hope you enjoyed these Events, and you can expect more of them in the upcoming year!

We are officially open for our relaunch, and are excited to meet and greet new RPers! We're currently looking for all types of characters, including Weyrleaders and goldriders! But we also have lots of room for green and blueriders, weyrfolk, candidates, and all types of Hall folk, such as Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices. We are currently having an event to Create Adoptables! And encourage everyone to take part!

History is almost complete, and the profile has been re-coded. All new characters will need to go onto the new profile, but all old can keep their current! We'll begin advertising properly over the next couple of weeks, once the history has been completed, and probably after the weekend of the 8th and 9th, because that is when ThistleProse is having her birthday.

Progress has slowed down a little, due to RL events (yay promotions! Boo no internet!) but we're getting back on track! Documents are still being written and we've put together a FAQs page, though its likely to recieve a lot of adjustments as we come across things. The current goal is to have everything set up and ready by July, but we'll see how well we go at that. And by we, I mean ThistleProse. lol.

Hair: Mulrissa has dark brown hair that reaches about halfway down her upper back. It is generally styled into tights twists or locks. She puts it in various different tied up styles while working, and keeps it down when she has 'down time.'

Height: 5'7"

General Appearance: Mulrissa has dark brown skin with cool undertones. She has fairly pronounced cheekbones and a longish nose. Her hands are calloused, due to her many chores as a child on a farm, followed by Exile on the Southern Continent and then living in Katila. After she started living amongst dragonriders she discovered how good the oil used for dragon hide is at softening callouses, and she has taken to using it on her hands. She also uses the oil on her hair as a moisturizer to help maintain it.

Athleticism has never been one of Mulrissa's strong points. She has led a life full of chores and labor, and her body is used to tough conditions and is in no way soft, but she does not have the same easy, athletic grace many dragonriders posses. As a goldrider, she hasn't yet needed it.

Dressing Style: On most days, Mulrissa can be found in practical outfits that allow her to do whatever the day's tasks require. She does have a fondness for patterned fabric, and loves wearing pretty dresses when the day allows for it. Due to her childhood, she is fairly talented at basic sewing and making clothing repairs, and she likes making 'recycled' pieces for herself and her children.

General Character Traits: Mulrissa tends to be an amiable, friendly person. She likes other people, for the most part, and enjoys being with those she considers 'family.' She's also fairly open to adding new people to that category. When Murlissa is given a task, she does her best to complete it quickly and efficiently. She sometimes will become so involved with a task she'll forget to take a break to eat, sleep, or deal with other obligations. New challenges are something she embraces, not avoids.

To some people's surprise, as she often wears work clothes, Mulrissa has an eye for the finer things. She wears nice dresses and jewelry whenever she can get away with it, which, now that she has Impressed gold, is a lot more often. Even in Katila, Mulrissa was adept at haggling and bartering what she had to get nice bits and bobs to dress up her clothing, like a small amount of fabric to add a brightly dyed hem, or a string of shells collected by weyrbrats sewn to the body of a dress.

Habits/Mannerisms: She drums her fingers on whatever surface is available when she is thinking too hard.

Opinions:
    Threadfall Theory: Depends on what Saavani thinks
    Stealing/Kidnapping: She was a little uncomfortable with taking unwilling people, but she found living with the dragonriders so much better than her former life, so she felt the Stolen would learn the same eventually.
    Weryrleader S'kef: While she didn't know the man well, Mulrissa was wary of him. He had a reputation, and Mulrissa did her best to stay away. As far as a brown Weyrleader, she found it a little unusual but wasn't overly concerned about it upsetting the natural order of things or whatever.
     Firelizards: A little concerned about them, but not overly opinionated.
    Women's loss of honourifics: She was deeply upset by the choice, knowing how it impacted her greenrider mother. While she was not as openly infuriated as her sister Vinorra, who insisted on continuing to use their mother's honorific, it still bothered her immensely as profoundly disrespectful.
    Return North: Mulrissa had spent most of her life in the South, and it is more familiar than the North. However, she considers her home to be with her chosen family, and that can be in the North just as well as the South.

Likes:
    Weyrlife: Even though part of her introduction to Weyr life was escaping South and living in exile for several turns, Mulrissa still regards living with dragonriders and weryfolk much higher than her childhood in the cothold.
    Pretty Dresses: Mulrissa has spent most of her life working, and when she has the chance she prefers to wear dresses, especially nicer ones.
    Babies: She really likes babies, though she think she might be done with having her own. When she has time, Mulrissa sometimes wanders over to the creche and offers her assistance.

Dislikes:
    Talking about the Landslide: Mulrissa lost a lot in the Landslide, and though she has recovered over the turns she still is uncomfortable discussing the event much, preferring to ignore it whenever possible.
    Mud: She's never liked being excessively dirty, and being trapped in the Landslide just made her dislike of mud and dirt stronger.
    Braggart Men: You know the ones. Mulrissa can barely smile politely at them once they've started about how great they are.

Strengths:
    Charming: Mulrissa knows her way around a conversation. She's generally friendly, and she has a sense of humor that is gentle enough most people don't take offense to it.
    Enthusiastic: She enters any interest or relationship whole-heartedly, and cheerfully puts her all into most tasks.
    Observant: Mulrissa notices the little things, such as an item on a desk being moved or a momentary twitch of emotion of someone's face.

Flaws:
    Possessive: Mulrissa has lost a lot over the years, and she refuses to let go of what she still has. She's become a bit more clingy when it comes to her children than she used to, and she constantly checks in with her other friends and family.
    Ritualistic: There are a few things that Mulrissa has to do, such as always knocking when she enters a room. She gets very uncomfortable when prevented from doing these things, but she has developed a decent control over the worst feelings. [Read: minor OCD]
    Extravagant: Now that she's a goldrider and they've returned North, Mulrissa feels she deserves the nicer life she's always been denied. Whether it was her abusive father, living in Exile, or the hard work involved in living in Katila, she's never really had the chance to dress nicely and just be pretty and not work hard all day. Now she has her chance and clings to it, sometimes a bit too tightly.

Background Story:
 706 AL & Birth: Mulrissa is born, the fifth child and second daughter of farmer Vist and his wife Murnorra.
 710 AL & 4 Turns: Murnorra dies in childbirth, but the child survives, a boy their father names Marvis. Mulrissa has a hard time understanding that her mother is truly gone, but she feels the result; She and her sister are given all the chores of their mother.
 711-714 AL & 5-8 Turns: The next few turns pass in a blur of hard work and being disregarded or punished by her father.
 715 AL & 9 Turns: Vinorra, fed up with their father's treatment of his daughters, takes her younger sister and what little belongings they can call their own, plus a few she stole from their father, and runs away. Her destination is Igen Weyr, the nearest Weyr to their cothold. She has heard that the Weyrs will let anyone live there. The stories she's heard aren't flattering - the gossip is that only weird people, social rejects, loose women, etc, go there -  but it has to be better than living with their father and brothers. Eventually, they make it to the Weyr.

At some point once they reach the Weyr, they meet S'va, who takes them in as her own children.
 716 AL & 10 Turns: The order to go South is given, and S'va brings her new daughters with her into exile, unwilling to leave them behind, and the girls unwilling to be left behind. Mulrissa, younger and smaller, rides with S'va, while Vinorra rides with D'nar, who goes South with S'va.
 717-719 AL & 11-13 Turns: At some point during exile, D'nar of blue Opaneth dies. Mulrissa isn't particularly upset, and other than losing a pair of hands (and a dragon), it isn't a huge loss.
 720 AL & 14 Turns: Nirinath's Call goes out and Mulrissa, Vinorra, and Saavani reunite with the other dragonriders. Young Mulrissa is ecstatic to be around people again, though she did enjoy the past few, quiet turns with just her sister and their mother. She does her best to make friends with the other young survivors.
 723 AL & 17 Turns: Now 17 turns, Mulrissa decides to experiment with flight mothing. She enjoys it well enough, but towards the end of the turn realizes she is pregnant. She confronts the man she is sure is the child's father, a bluerider named G'chal. He agrees to help support her and the child.
 724 AL & 18 Turns: Mulrissa and G'chal realize over the months of Mulrissa'a pregnancy that they actually get along and work together quite well. By the time her child, a son she names Chalris, is born they are an established couple.
 726 AL & 20 Turns: Her first daughter, Ginorra, is born.
 728 AL & 22 Turns: Chassa, her second daughter is born.
 730 AL & 24 Turns: Marchal is born, a second son.
 732-733 AL & 26-27 Turns: Mulrissa Stands for the first time in 732, and continues to do so over the next turn and a half. She is, in some ways, an ideal candidate, as she already has four children, and has thus contributed to the population already, and isn't technically weyrbred, which makes her more likely to Impress gold in some eyes.
 734 AL & 28 Turns:
01.08 - The Landslide decimated Katila. The hut Mulrissa lived in with G'chal and their children was destroyed while they were all inside. Mulrissa, who had gotten up to speak to her elder daughter about a nightmare Ginorra had had, was in the side room where the two older children slept. G'chal and the two younger children were in the main room. When the building collapsed, the main room went first, killing G'chal, Chassa, and Marchal. The side room was also badly damaged, though Mulrissa, Ginorra, and Chalris survived with relatively minor injuries. They spend about 10 hours in the collapsed room waiting for rescue. Mulrissa is grief-stricken at the loss of her children and weyrmate and spends her time split between caring for her remaining children and being lost in a daze.

13.09 - Aridissicath's Clutch begins to hatch, and Mulrissa is encouraged to Stand. Though she has almost aged out, some of her friends think Impressing a dragonet might help her cope with the loss of G'chal, Chassa, and Marchal. She's not enthusiastic about it, but doesn't protest. To her great shock, she Impresses gold Bedith. The little dragon does indeed help Mulrissa focus on life past her grief, and she throws herself into being a dragonrider, with some assistance from her sister (and mother?) in caring for her remaining children.
 736 AL & 30 Turns: Mulrissa, Bedith, and her family move North to Telgar Weyr, where they end up staying when Fort and Ista are repopulated.
 738 AL & 32 Turns: Bedith still has not Risen for the first time, which, while not impossible or even unlikely for a 4 turn old gold, starts to worry some people and Mulrissa begins getting a good number of questions about her dragon, how well she's eating, and other questions.

    Weyrlinghood: As a dragonet, Bedith has a solid colored hide of light, warm gold. She grew slowly, not reaching her full size until almost 28 months old.
    Adulthood: Bedith becomes an even paler gold with deeper, warmer patches all over her body. The most noticeable is a patch on her throat, as well as one on her front left foot. The darker gold is the same color of her weyrlinghood.

Mindvoice: Deep and velvety

General Character Traits: Bedith shares some traits with her rider. Both are highly motivated, ready and willing to do whatever to complete the task. The gold is, however, much less humble than her human counterpart. She thinks very highly of herself, to the point of thinking everyone else is lesser because they aren't her or Mulrissa. Allowances are made for some of the people Mulrissa cares about. If Chalris, her son, ever Impresses, Bedith may make an exception for his dragon, but that remains to be seen. She may instead see the dragon as especially unworthy.

Though she can be intense when on task, Bedith is generally laid-back. When she isn't dedicated to seeing something through, she can be downright lazy. Sun bathing is one of her favorite activities, and she gets grumpy when she doesn't get enough sun.

Habits/Mannerisms: Bedith tends to make soft humming or trilling noises when she sleeps. Like snoring, but not as loud or obnoxious.

Likes:
    The Sun: Basking in the sun, flying on sunny days, the sun being out in general, Bedith just loves that bright ball in the sky.
    Remembering Names: For most dragons, remembering names is hard or unimportant. Bedith likes to challenge herself and learn (and remember) as many names as possible, even of those she cares nothing about.
    Compliments: Bedith is vain as anything, and absolutely preens when she's complimented.

    Rain It tends to be cold, wet, and the sun isn't there.
    Whers: Nuisance reject dragons, all of them.
    Other Queens: Bedith is a bit grumpy that she's a junior queen, and tends to avoid those senior to her. Since the hierarchy isn't as defined among the junior queens either, she tends to just avoid them too.

Strengths:
    Motivated: Bedith is a go-getter, and once she decides on a plan of action she pursues it relentlessly
    Optimistic: Things will always turn out ok, in Bedith's mind.
    Dignified: She is careful to preserve her image as a gold, a queen. Bedith always knows where she is in relation to others.

Flaws:
    Willful: She likes to do what she wants, when she wants.
    Unself-critical: Bedith believes she is perfect and refuses to listen to any critiques of her behavior, especially from anyone who isn't her rider. Mulrissa has learned that one way of handling this is not to critique Bedith directly, but imply the behavior is beneath her.
    Unimpressed: Due to her high opinion of herself, Bedith often thinks less of others. Other dragons, riders, weyrfolk, holders, all of them are less impressive than she and her rider, and she is less willing to tolerate them or consider their words and ideas.

You are displeased. Bedith said, opening one great eye to look at her rider, who had just entered their weyr. Mulrissa sat down next to the large, wedge-shaped head of her dragon and sighed.

"It's nothing important. I've just been asked twice recently if I'm sure you're eating enough."

Why wouldn't I be? The dragon asked, mild confusion in her thoughts. Who would stop me from eating my fill?

Mulrissa chuckled.

"Not a soul, sweetheart. At least, not generally. I can't let you eat too much when you Rise, after all." She said, scratching Bedith's chin. "Which is, of course, the issue. They seem to think you should have Risen by now."

Bedith snorted. What do they know of me, or of golds? Nothing. Next time anyone says such things, I will step on them. Mulrissa laughed openly and leaned into the warm hide of her dragon.

"You know, I might just let you."

Opinions:
    Threadfall Theory: He was raised in a holder family of rank, and as a result was surrounded by people who were mildly to very resentful of having to tithe to dragonriders, and were somewhat relived they were gone. These same people liked to talk about how that meant they had no need for dragonriders, and therefore there would be no Thread. He's not so sure anymore, but he's still a bit skeptical.

General Appearance: Misharan has fine, delicate features and can easily be described as 'pretty.' Freckles cover much of his body, including his face, and they get more pronounced the more he is in the sun. He also burns fairly easily.

While he isn't as muscled as his brothers, due to working in the house or the hold more than in the mines, he still maintains some athleticism. He has managed to avoid the persistent cough that plagues most mining families, again due to spending little time in the mines themselves.

Dressing Style: Misharan doesn't necessarily have much in the way of 'nice' clothing, but he works hard to make sure whatever he has looks good on him. He has a fondness for shirts with flowing sleeves, as inconvenient as they can be. Misharan also likes embroidered work, and likes to find embroidered clothing when possible. He's also a fan of tall boots and very much likes the leather riding jackets the dragonriders get.

General Character Traits: Misharan can seem a bit abrasive to strangers, as he's a bit rude and says whatever he wants with as many swears as he wants to, but he's not actually that prickly. While he will say any negative thing he wants, he'll also say the positives - he's the friend who tells you he loves you on a regular basis (if he has any friends that close yet, who knows). Misharan will see things that remind him of people and get them as gifts, even if there aren't any gift-giving occasions coming up.

He can be a bit of a contrary bastard, and telling him 'no you can't' will only make him say 'fuck you, I can' and proceed to go do it (or fail spectacularly in the attempt).

Secretly, he's a bit of a romantic and would like to find 'the one,' but he's also currently content to be a flight moth for the rest of his life (hopefully eventually with a dragon).

Habits/Mannerisms: When he has to sit still for long periods of time he starts bouncing his leg.

Opinions:

Likes:
    Whers: Misharan grew up in and around the mine, where whers were used to help detect underground dangers and clear out collapses. He was rather fond of the beasts, and he might have asked to be trained as a wher handler if he hadn't been Searched.
    Sleeping In: In the Weyr he doesn't have as many set chores as he did at home, and takes every opportunity to sleep in. Misharan is a very groggy person in the morning, barely managing coherent sentences without klah (or dunking his head in water).
    Writing: He's no Harper, but among miners he has nice handwriting, and he got a good number of marks growing up in exchange for writing things for people in his nice handwriting. He takes pride in his writing because of that.

Dislikes:
    Disrespect of Mining: Most weyrfolk are fairly dismissive of the minecraft, as it's dirty and involves lots of brute labor. And yeah, Misharan hated it himself, but he lived it, he's allowed to hate it, but he feels compelled to defend it to these weyrfolk. Where do you think your firestone comes from? Who originally carved out your Weyrs?
    Boring People: Misharan has fairly set ideas about what classifies someone as 'boring' or 'worth his time,' and he does his best to avoid the former whenever possible.
    Children: He's a youngest child and has therefore never built up a tolerance to babies or toddlers, and anyone younger than 10 turns makes him panic a little bit.

Strengths:
    Outspoken: After having to hide parts of himself for many years, Misharan's outspokenness comes out in full force at the Weyr. He will say what he thinks and damn the consequences. Usually, it's a positive thing, making him better at communicating because he'll be willing to explain how he feels or what he's thinking.
    Reliable: Once he's committed to do something, he will see it through no matter what. Obstacles only make Misharan more determined to overcome them and complete his task.
    Thankful: Misharan always keeps track of who's done him a good turn, and tries his best to repay the favor when the opportunity arises.

Flaws:
    Vulgar: Curses liberally pepper his speech, and he's not afraid to be blunt about things.
    Scheming: He likes things to go his way, and where possible is perfectly happy to 'arrange' things to better suit him.
    Materialistic: Misharan's family put everything they had towards getting as many sons as possible into the Minecraft Hall, so he didn't have many 'nice' belongings growing up, so nowadays he gleefully collects things, even utterly useless baubles just because he can. He puts great importance in his collection and is rather protective towards it and a bit impulsive when it comes to adding new items.

Background Story:
 717 AL & Birth: Misharan is born the 6th living child and 4th son of Shandar and Marliya. To the family's sorrow, the pregnancy took its toll on Marliya and she passed away due to complications. Shandar's mother, who lived with the couple, took over caring for the younger children. A young woman was hired to help cook meals on occasion.
 718 AL & 1 Turn: The second oldest son, Marlan, spends more time helping around the house with the younger children (to the extent an 11 turn old child can help). Mandar also helped out, though Sharlan did not, as he was busy with his Minecraft apprenticeship.
 719 AL & 2 Turns: The family has enough money to send another son to the crafthall, so Marlan is apprenticed and Mandar starts spending even more time helping out at home.
 721 AL & 4 Turns: Marlan dies in a mining accident. Misharan is still too young to fully grasp what has happened to his older brother and is rather distraught that he keeps not coming home. Mandar is given his minecraft apprenticeship position.
 723 AL & 6 Turns: Eldest brother Sharlan married the daughter of a master minecrafter. Misharan overheard him telling Mandar it was more about gaining access to the master minecrafter than being in love with his new wife.
724 AL & 7 Turns: A family argument breaks out, as Shindil is now old enough to become a mincrafter apprentice. Unfortunately, the family does not have the funds to send another child to the crafthall. Shindil, determined, starts doing odd jobs to make some extra money.
 725 AL & 8 Turns: His older brother Shindil decides Misharan needs to be taught how to fight. All of the siblings are fairly delicate, including the boys, and Sharlan, Mandar, and Shindil (and Marlan) all had to deal with some trouble from other boys for lack of manliness. Sharlan, the eldest, learned that fighting back, and well, tended to work, and had passed on what he learned to Marlan and Mandar, who taught Shindil. Misharan thought it was good fun, and took to fighting with enthusiasm.
 727 AL & 10 Turns: Between family funds and Shindil's side jobs, they can afford for him to enter the Minecraft Hall. Misharan is a bit disappointed, as Shindil was his favorite sibling.
 729 AL & 12 Turns: By this point, Misharan is fairly sure he's much more interested in boys than girls. Based on how his grandmother talks about such things, he keeps it hidden, as he rather likes being fed and housed by his family.

Sharlan's first child is born late in the turn. Misharan doesn't care much about being an uncle.
 730 AL & 13 Turns: Mandar gets married to the daughter of a baker. Misharan is allowed to start keeping the family books, as well as running messages around the mine (he has nicer handwriting than most miners, so he makes a few marks writing letters and such for other people)
 731 AL & 14 Turns: Their father is looking to marry off Shaliya, and she is eventually found a husband in the form of Jr. Journeyman minecrafter, a friend of Mandar's. Shaliya is pleased with Mandar's choice, relieved it wasn't left to their father. Misharan is highly relieved he isn't a girl.
 733 AL & 16 Turns: Shindil gets married, leaving Misharan as the last unmarried sibling, as well as the only one remaining in the house with his father and grandmother. He hates it. All the more time for his grandmother to focus on his flaws.
 735 AL & 18 Turns: His grandmother dies of a minor illness. Misharan is conflicted about it, as he felt like she was always criticizing him and he had to hide a lot of himself from her, but she did help raise him.
 736 AL & 19 Turns: Misharan is Searched by blue Ayyonth and R'nd a scant few days after Turn End. As he is the youngest child and not a member of the Minecraft himself, he is allowed to go with little issue. Misharan himself is ecstatic at the prospect of weyrlife and Impressing a dragon, but maintains a quiet dignity so as not to reveal too much to his family, who all come by to see him off, as well as uphold appearances - can't seem too enthusiastic. By the end of the year, he has settled in at Telgar, Standing at every clutch that turn without Impressing. He is disappointed, but still finds weyrlife to be much better than living in a mining hold, so it doesn't bother him overly much.
 737-738 AL & 20-21 Turns: He spends the next two turns Standing (unsuccessfully) and getting to know the Weyr and weyrlife better (Read: sleeping around).

Misharan frowned as he calculated the date in his head. If he was right, and he usually was with dates, his favorite brother's eldest daughter had a birthday coming up soon. As he was the best distance uncle (all the presents, minimal actual interaction), he had to find a suitable gift. What did two turn old girls like? Or would it be better to get a gift for Shindil that he could use for his daughter? If he had a dragon, he'd definitely have gotten her a little dress or something dyed to match his dragon (He was a bit vain, he graciously admitted this to anyone who accused him of it). But, alas, he'd yet to Impress.

He sighed, considering. None of his Candidate friends had children, so they'd likely have no ideas. Maybe they had younger siblings? Could be worth asking. And all the dragon riders he knew had no acknowledged children, so they'd likely be no help there either. Though maybe he could convince one to take him to the Hold to shop.

Ugh, He thought tiredly, How can I be the best uncle and shower her with gifts if I can't figure out what sort of shit she or her parents might need? Where's a woman with children when you need one? He blinked. That actually might not be a bad idea. There were plenty of women with children in this Weyr, why couldn't he find one and ask her? There had to be at least one that would willingly talk to him. Probably.

Course of action decided, Misharan nodded to himself and headed off to find a woman who might have children.

Hair: He has curly, dark brown hair that forms a cloud of curls around his head. He's careful to keep his hair clean, though it is often unruly and flyaway curls will stick out.

General Appearance: Rubren has a surprisingly serious face and demeanor for a young man of only 16 turns. He doesn't smile too often, and is rarely outwardly expressive in other ways. His eyes are his most expressive feature, the rest of his face and body language remaining fairly tranquil, though with friends he smiles easily, the smile itself a bit crooked.

He still has the gangly limbs due to not being finished growing. He is lithe and thin overall, and it seems to be a permanent trait, not just a feature of his being young and growing. Rubren has had to do chores and physical labor since he was considered old enough to do so, and is reasonably in shape because of it.

Dressing Style: Rubren wouldn't recognize style if it punched him in the face while singing a ballad. He'll wear whatever clothes he's given and not think twice about what it looks like.

General Character Traits: Rubren is a little more serious than the average boy of 16, taking responsibility for his own tasks and such, but that doesn't mean he has no idea how to have fun. He is perfectly capable of being a little imp and causing trouble, teasing his friends or getting into friendly fights with them. Still, he likes being taken seriously by adults, as even though he is considered an 'adult' by Pernese standards he's still quite young. Older people putting their faith in him makes him feel proud of himself, and he tries to encourage that faith from them.

He worries a bit that he's abandoning his family by becoming a Candidate. Sure, he's not the oldest son and his parents have the girls as well, but he still feels an obligation towards them. How can you say no to becoming a dragonrider  though? It's a better life and something of an honor. Rubren brings the same determination and seriousness to the Weyr, paying close attention to what he's being taught to prepare him for Impression.

Habits/Mannerisms: He bites his thumbs in concentration, or when worried, or plenty of other reasons. Rubren doesn't really notice what he's doing until he starts bleeding.

Opinions:

    Animals: He worked with beastcrafters, and there were many animals around his family's home, so he's used to being around them. Dragons are great and all, but sometimes he wants to spend time with creatures a little less clever.
    Sweets: Rubren has a bit of a sweet tooth he tries very hard not to indulge too often. He fails at this quite often.
    Parties: Gathers, holidays, large get-togethers of any sort, Rubren loves them. Even though he tends to be quiet, he loves the active and cheerful environment.

Dislikes:
    Being Cooped up Inside: Rubren spent so much of his life outside and it's where he prefers to be, to the point that he gets restless if he's forced to stay inside for too long.
    Humidity: Damp and hot? Ew.
    Insomnia: He's always had trouble settling down for sleep, and he really, really wishes he could just lie down and fall asleep instead of lay awake for at least an hour waiting.

Strengths:
    Attentive: Learning is something Rubren values, so when he has the opportunity to learn something he pays attention and fully engages.
    Bashful: As proud of his own accomplishments as he can be he gets blushy and embarrassed when others draw attention to them.
    Prudent: Used to living as a cotholder with few marks to his name, Rubren is always careful to make things last as long as possible, and tends to collect things that 'may be useful later,' filling up his living space with objects that he may never actually use. This habit extends to people as well, careful to consider how his words and actions might impact relationships before speaking.

Flaws:
    Dismissive: He tends to put more stock in the words of people he respects, so if someone hasn't gained his respect he's less likely to care what they say or believe.
    Clumsy: Rubren hasn't outgrown his teenage gangliness and isn't always aware of how long his limbs are or how tall he is, leading to a lot of bumping into things.
    Single-minded: Rubren can get a bit stuck in his opinions and trying to get him to change his mind only makes him dig his heels in deeper.

 737 AL & 15 Turns: Beven, the eldest sibling, gets married and moves out of the family home. Rubren didn't get along overly well with his elder brother, so he was rather pleased by the new situation.

It was way too sharding late and Rubren lay awake in his bed, face smushed into his pillow after tossing and turning for a good half hour. Someone nearby was snoring. How anyone else slept through it, Rue had no idea. Not that he would have been asleep anyway, but usually it was only mildly inconvenient when he couldn't sleep, not whatever this form of torture was. He missed his parents house at times like these. It was quieter, and the noises softer. And he knew all the places he could escape to when he needed to be alone. Rubren hadn't found those places in the Weyr yet, and hadn't yet gotten up the courage to go wandering around exploring when he couldn't sleep.

He groaned in frustration, rolling onto his side and folding the pillow around his head to cover both ears. Honestly, this was the worst. Rubren decided then and there that he was going to Impress a dragon as soon as possible, so he could get himself a nice, private weyr with thick walls as soon as possible. Then maybe he would be able to sleep before he had to wake up for chores in the morning.

Eyes: She has light blue eyes that are almost grey. Her eyelashes aren't particularly long or thick and are often practically unnoticeable.

Hair: Tala has wavy light brown hair that she keeps cut above the shoulder. It lightens significantly in the summer and sun. It curls more strongly in the humidity.

Height: 5'4"

General Appearance: Tala has a soft, oval shaped face with a small cleft in her chin. Her skin is middling fair with no freckles to speak of. She's picked up a good number of small marks and scars over the years, but few serious or particularly noticeable ones. A large percentage of the scars are small, circular ones leftover from insect bites she couldn't leave alone. She also has stretch marks from her pregnancy. Her mouth is wide with pouty lips.

Her lifestyle has led her to be reasonably fit, but not overly muscular and she retains a fair amount of softness to her body. Tala's hands have managed to stay fairly smooth due to helping her aunt oil her dragon nearly her whole life, though basic work has kept them from being the hands of a noble. She keeps her nails short, as she tends to break them a lot and eventually decided to just keep them short all the time.

Dressing Style: Practicality is the main role for clothing in Tala's view. It doesn't have to be pretty or well done if it works. She generally wears pants for this reason. Most of her clothes are fairly loose fitting. Tala adores soft fabrics, but they aren't 'necessary' so she often forgoes them.

General Character Traits: There's little that gets Tala down. She is unerringly cheerful and determined to make the best of whatever life throws at her. Tala hates being unable to act, and will always doggedly find a new way to pursue her goals. She makes friends easily, and is happy to introduce herself to new people and do her best to make them comfortable with her.

Family means everything to Tala. She had only her aunt for some time, and R'mar clung desperately to her niece in the wake of the Plague and her sister's death. Thus, Tala was taught at a young age that family is important. This idea was only compounded by the fact she has no idea who her father was and her desire to have known her mother. She doesn't see fathers as necessary to raising a child, but it would be nice to know who he was - especially in a place like the Weyrs where she could easily sleep with a relative without knowing.

Habits/Mannerisms: Tala constantly plays with her hair. Twirling it around her finger, running her fingers through it, brushing it out of her face, you name it. She doesn't consciously play with her hair, but she can be seen doing it pretty much anytime her hands are unoccupied.  

Opinions:
  Threadfall Theory: Those who raised her believe it will come, and she's seen nothing to prove them wrong.
  Stealing/Kidnapping: She was only 10 when it started and just accepted what she was told; that it was necessary.
    Weryrleader S'kef: The only good thing he did was bring them North.
     Firelizards: They're pretty cute, if a bit squeaky.
    Women's loss of honourifics: How rude! Couldn't they have at least let the riders who already had honorifics keep them? She had no problems with not getting an honorific if she Impressed green like her aunt, but really, how would one shorten 'Tala' anyway?
  Return North: Exciting, but she misses the Southern Continent. It's part of the reason she wanted to live in Ista when the two other Weyrs were opened.

Likes:
  Being Outside: Tala spent much of her younger life outside, and she still loves it. As nice as civilization is, there's something special about being in nature.
  Ryvala: Coming from a family that, due to having few living members, was very, very close, it's unsurprising that Tala loves her daughter fiercely.
  Dragons: As a weyrbrat (sort of), dragons have always been a part of Tala's life. She loves the great beasts, and aspires to Impress one herself.

Dislikes:
  Being Lonely: As a cheerful and friendly person, not being around others is not something Tala enjoys.
  Deep Water: Tala is nervous around any water deeper than her waist after almost drowning at 13. Swimming is off the table, though baths are fine, and she will wade into water a little bit.
  Being Useless: She has lived through lots of disasters she could do nothing about, such as firehead outbreaks, storms, and the Landslide, and she really dislikes not being able to act. It's part of the reason she always throws herself into helping however she can after disasters.

Strengths:
  Bold: Tala is always ready to try new things and speak her mind.
  Imaginative: She grew up in the wilds of the Southern Continent and Katila, which were not known for fancy children's toys. Tala was always excellent at making do, not just for fun as a child but also with practical things, like finding creative uses for old objects.
  Positive: Nothing keeps Tala down for long, and she always thinks there is a chance to make things better.

Flaws:
  Stubborn: While fairly easygoing, Tala has a stubborn streak that crops up when it involves things she really cares about.
  Reckless: Tala doesn't always think things through completely, and will act on impulse more often than not. Consequences don't usually occur to her, which can be seen in her accidental pregnancy.
  Easily Distracted: Interruptions cause no end of problems for Tala. If she's interrupted during a task, she either takes the new task and forgets all about the first one, or continues the first forgetting all about the second.

Background Story:
716 AL & Birth: Talara, who is pregnant, goes South to escape the Plague with her greenriding sister, R'mar (who had not been informed that her sister was pregnant, as Talara was worried R'mar would refuse to bring her South if she'd known). After 7 months on the Southern Continent, Talara gives birth to her first child. There are complications, and due to there being no trained healer and only her sister there, Talara dies within hours of her daughter's birth. R'mar names the child Tala, after her mother, and because she does not know the father's identity.
717 AL & 1 Turn: Despite have minimal child rearing experience and being alone in the wild, R'mar somehow manages to keep baby Tala alive, thought it is a near thing. It is mostly due to sheer determination and the assistance of green Delorianth that Tala survives her first year of life. R'mar managed to contact another group of Weyr refugees, a young brownrider, his mother, and younger sister. The rider's mother gives some assistance to R'mar in caring for Tala, though the riders are careful their dragons never get anywhere near each other.
718 AL & 2 Turns: Tala is a thankfully quiet baby, and is perfectly content to stay where she is placed and watch the world around her. She is easily entertained, and R'mar can simply give her something to play with and know she'll be occupied for a good long time. R'mar picks up parenting skills and survival skills like a boss.
719 AL & 3 Turns: R'mar looses contact with the other group. She never learns what happened to them. However, the brownrider's mother got her through Tala's first few years and taught her enough to keep raising Tala alone.
720 AL & 4 Turns: Nirinath's Call goes out, and R'mar immediately joins the other riders. She is ecstatic at the idea of help raising Tala, as well as more interaction in general. Tala, for her part, is excited by all the action and has playmates for the first time in her short life. She quickly makes friends, as Tala has no fear of introducing herself to new people and declaring them friends.
721 AL & 5 Turns: Tala and R'mar avoid falling ill during the firehead outbreak, with R'mar being overly protective of her only remaining family and connection to her sister.
722 - 724 AL & 6-8 Turns: The discontent and desire to return North does not touch Tala, as she has no idea what North is like at all and R'mar feels no need to return; there's nothing for the greenrider there but memories. The young girl continues to play and make friends in the creche.
725 AL & 9 Turns: The storm destroys the house R'mar and Tala shared with another greenrider, and they spend the next few months helping rebuild.
727 AL & 11 Turns: Nirinath Rises, and Tala is extremely excited at the idea of baby dragons. This is when her desire to have a dragon of her own truly develops.
729 AL & 13 Turns: Tala almost drowns while swimming, causing a great deal of distress for her aunt and friends who were swimming with her and creating her fear of deep water.
731 AL & 15 Turns: D'ren's new rule about women who wish to Stand for fighting dragons need to have at least one child is established. Tala is somewhat concerned about this, as at 15 the idea of having a child doesn't particularly appeal to her.
733 AL & 17 Turns: Women's honorifics are revoked. R'mar is livid, and pronounces that she'll only go back to Aramara if or when Delorianth is gone. Tala has no desire to anger her aunt, and continues to use her honorific name in private. In public, she tends to use 'Ramara' which sounds a bit like a nickname.
734 AL & 18 Turns: The Landslide happens. Delorianth is gravely injured protecting R'mar/Aramara and Tala in their hut. She survives, but her left hind leg is mangled and while she keeps the leg it is nearly useless. Tala spends the time after the Landslide helping Aramara/R'mar care for Delorianth as she recovers, as well as volunteering her time with others who were injured.
735 AL & 19 Turns: The move North begins. R'mar/Aramara, due to Delorianth's now permanently crippled leg, decides to remain in Katila and officially 'retire' as an active dragonrider. Tala chooses to go North with the others. Though she misses R'mar/Aramara horribly, Tala has no desire to miss out on the adventure of moving North or the chance to Impress a dragon of her own.
736 AL & 20 Turns: Ista and Fort Weyrs are reopened, and Tala moves to Ista, the warmest of the Weyrs, as she misses the warmth of the Southern Continent.
737 AL & 21 Turns Tala starts 'experimenting' with sex once life started settling into more regular patterns after all the moving about and opening new Weyrs. She has good fun for a few months, before realizing she's pregnant. This leads to a bit of a panic for Tala, as she has to step down from being a Candidate for a while, but she ultimately keeps the pregnancy.
738 AL & 22 Turns: Early in the Turn her child, a girl she names Ryvala following the usual Pernese tradition of combining the parents' names. She feels compelled to do so, as she still has no idea who her father is and likely never will, and she wants her daughter to know who her family is. By the end of the Turn, Ryvala is considered old enough for Tala to resume Standing.

Education Details: Basic weyrbrat education. Tala has a great memory for random facts, so learning was easy for her. She spent a lot of time reading whatever she could get her hands on, which honestly wasn't much in Katila.

That afternoon had been cleared of any chores or obligations, so Tala had wrapped Ryvala up in a shawl, tied it around her chest to carry her easier, and set out from the creche into the Weyr bowl. She intended to take a leisurely walk down to the lake and back, give Ryvala some sun and air. The weather had been warm and clear of rain for the past week, and the day looked to be no different, so Tala had no worries about getting herself and her baby rained on.

Within twenty minutes Ryvala had fallen asleep, rocked by the movement of Tala walking and the warmth of the sun. Tala smiled fondly at her and continued walking. She hadn't been planning on Ryvala, and had been a bit disappointed at having to step down as a Candidate for a while, but ultimately she was worth it. And, with any luck, Tala wouldn't be in the Candidate barracks for much longer and her daughter could move in with her instead of living in the creche full time. Well, after she graduated from being a weyrling, but still. The sooner she Impressed, the sooner she could keep Ryvala with her.

After a while she reached the lakeside. Sitting down on the sand a few feet from the water Tala carefully unwrapped the shawl holding Ryvala against her and sat the girl down on her lap. Thankfully, she'd managed to keep from waking her. Tala gazed out over the water, twirling a lock of hair around a finger in thought. It would be much easier to reach the lake on dragonback, but Tala in many ways preferred walking; She was pretty sure she'd always have to fly there once she had a dragon, but maybe whoever she Impressed would be amenable to her walking. Or not. Tala smiled, thinking of all the dragons she knew. Delorianth would have put up with it but snarked and complained constantly. Most of the others would have outright refused. Maybe she'd get lucky, and whatever hatchling that was destined for her would understand why she liked walking so much. Or maybe she'd fall in love with flying. Who knew?

Lost in thought about her future dragon, Tala sat by the lake idly stroking her daughter's hair for a good hour before she was finally interrupted. (<- Thread starter)

Hair: Sh'dar's hair is somewhere between blonde and brown, with a slight wave. He's changed styles many times over the years, including cropped less than an inch from his scalp and long to his chin. He currently keeps it a few inches long. After the Southern Continent he's stopped caring so much about facial hair, though he always kept his face clean shaven before that.

General Appearance: Sh'dar has always had freckles, but after the years living on the Southern Continent he has gained more and they have become darker and more apparent overall. He has very defined smile lines, though they are definitely inherited, not a result of lots of smiling, as Sh'dar is more likely to smirk, look neutral, or look unimpressed.

Years of dragonriding has kept him fairly fit.

Dressing Style: Practicality and efficiency are important to Sh'dar when it comes to choosing clothing, so he wears things that are easy to move in. However, he considers looking good part of practicality (when you want people to listen to you, looking well put together helps convince them you know what you're talking about).

General Character Traits: Sh'dar is idealistic and determined, having an image of what the Weyrs and dragonriders should be and wanting to help guide them there. He has an image of what Pern should be, and thinks the dragonriders are the best positioned to guide it.

He holds very high standards for those he feels are 'under his wing,' including his children. Sh'dar was a Wingleader at High Reaches before the Plague and has never really acted as if he lost the authority.

To the surprise of many, Sh'dar is actually fairly compassionate. He's good at helping younger dragonriders become more comfortable as riders and with their dragons.

Habits/Mannerisms: All the eyebrow raising. Just constant eyebrow raising at people.

Opinions:
Threadfall Theory: He absolutely believes it's coming back, and he will do everything he can to make sure he and the Weyrs are ready for it.
Stealing/Kidnapping: It was necessary. They needed more people for the hatchlings to choose from, and they couldn't just go ask. Stealing was what they had to do. Sh'dar even volunteered to accompany the Searchriders North.
Weryrleader S'kef: Dubious as hell. Sure, Sh'dar isn't a strict traditionalist, but S'kef? In charge? There are plenty of bronzeriders who would be much better leaders, thank you. He completely supports the policy of choosing Weyrleaders themselves.
Firelizards: Definitely concerned at first for the safety of the dragons. He's come to terms with them by now.
Women's loss of honourifics: He felt it created unnecessary conflict. Ultimately it caused tension when they needed to be united to survive and become strong enough to continue as dragonriders and protectors of Pern. Also, he refused to change his daughter's name when she dead.
Return North: A necessary next step to revive the power of dragonriders.

Likes:
History and Stories: Sh'dar likes to spend his free time perusing the archives and listening to Harper tales. He loves a good tale, especially historical ones.
Warm Baths: They're just really nice, alright?
Canines: He's always had an odd fondness for the creatures, though he's never had one himself.

Dislikes:
Holders: Especially Lord Holders. They just have such little regard for anyone but themselves and need the dragonriders to keep them in line so their greed and self-centeredness don't destroy Pern.
Firelizards: Sh'dar doesn't hate them and can tolerate their presence, but what nuisances!
The narrow-minded: Honestly, why can't people just understand change is sometimes necessary?

Strengths:
Decisive: Sh'dar can analyze situations and make decisions quickly, and will follow through on his decisions once they are made.
Idealistic: He believes in ideals, such as dragonriders protecting Pern, Holders protecting their people, etc. Sh'dar actively tries to forward his beliefs.
Flexible: Changes aren't inherently bad, and Sh'dar is willing and capable of responding to a situation in new ways.

Flaws:
Manipulative: Sh'dar sees no ethical concerns about lying or spinning the truth in order to achieve a goal. Ends justify the means, and all that, at least to an extent.
Conceited: He has a hard time admitting when he's wrong. Even with tons and tons of proof, getting Sh'dar to admit he made a bad choice is nearly unheard of.
Domineering: Since he always thinks he's right, he's insistent that everyone else realizes he's right, and Sh'dar will absolutely assert his point of view, arguing for it until either people agree or he stalks off to sulk for weeks.
Impatient: Hates having to wait for people to come to the right conclusions.

676 AL & Birth: Keshawndar was born the seventh child and fourth son of merchant Tawdrenar and mother Kara. He was a loud baby, always demanding attention.
680 AL & 3 Turns: His sister Tawna is in an accident that breaks both her legs and leaves her unable to walk for a time. Keshawndar is too young to register much more than that the family is a bit hectic for a time.
683 AL & 6 Turns: Had a contrary phase that he never grew out of and spent a lot of time trying to win arguments with everyone, using childish logic no one could really win against.
685 AL & 8 Turns: Tawna becomes an apprentice weaver. At eight, Keshawndar has very little opinion on the matter.
689 AL & 12 Turns: Keshawndar is apprenticed at the Weavercraft Hall, the fourth of his siblings to do so.

698 AL & 21 Turns: His first child is born, the result of a random fling. The mother insists he plays some role in their daughter's life, so Sh'dar awkwardly interacts with the child.
700 AL & 24 Turns: Adraith catches his first gold. The bronze is very pleased with himself. Sh'dar likes the unofficial boost it gives their status.
702 AL & 26 Turns: The rivalry with the other bronzerider had intensified over the years into real dislike, and they end up getting into a physical altercation that their dragons almost get involved with. Thankfully for Sh'dar, there were witnesses and he did not throw the first punch, so he got off lighter.
704 AL & 28 Turns: Sh'dar transferred to High Reaches, as several older bronzes had retired in recent turns and they wanted a few younger bronzes to make up the numbers. As Fort had plenty, Sh'dar and Adraith went.
705 AL & 29 Turns: Sh'dar is made a Wingleader, replacing one of the bronzes who retired. The older rider he replaced became something of a mentor to him.
706 AL & 30 Turns: He really takes to being Wingleader, and loves coming up with increasingly complicated exercises for the wingriders to practice.
707 AL & 31 Turns: Adraith catches his first gold since the move to High Reaches.
712 AL & 36 Turns: His first child, Shawnara, Impresses a blue. Sh'dar starts paying a lot more attention to her, and they actually develop a much closer relationship.
713 AL & 37: Another of his children, a son named Keshandelar and half brother to the newly named Sh'ra, Impresses, this time to a brown. Again, Sh'dar starts taking more interest in his now dragonriding child.
715 AL & 39 Turns: The Plague started, and Sh'dar feared greatly for Adraith.
716 AL & 40 Turns: Sh'dar goes South among the first wave of riders, fleeing along with his two dragonriding children, Sh'ra and K'shan.
717-719 AL & 41-43 Turns: The Southern Continent is harsh, but Sh'dar, Sh'ra, and K'shan shoulder through and survive with few major incidents.
720 AL & 44 Turns: Sh'dar is ecstatic when Nirinath's Call comes, relieved that there is still at least one gold to continue the dragon population. He and his children quickly join with the growing group of dragonriders.
721 AL & 45 Turns: K'shan and Sh'ra both die of the firehead outbreak. Sh'dar is very ill, but pulls through, only to find his two dragonriding children were dead.
723-725 & 46-48 Turns: Sh'dar isn't hugely pleased with Tsuen's choices, and is perfectly happy to tell others that. Which of course, gets him in a bit of trouble periodically, but he quickly learns how to question her rule without arising too much ire.
726 AL & 49 Turns: Firehead comes again, though this time Sh'dar doesn't get sick. He figures he's immune from the last time, and volunteers to help the healers with the sick.
727 AL & 50 Turns: The bronze pair are overjoyed when Nirinath rises, reassured that the race of dragons will continue. Adraith chases but loses out to the much larger Ronarth. Sh'dar still questions the decision to remain South, but agrees that additional Candidates are needed, by any means possible.
732 AL & 56 Turns: Sh'dar severely doubts the amount of control Tsuen and D'ren have over the community, and while he would rather they were replaced he agrees to help reassure people that things are all right.
733 AL & 57: The execution of T'shiro and Cucluith absolutely appalls Sh'dar and Adraith, and any lingering trust in Tsuen was destroyed.
734 AL & 58 Turns: The Landslide sweeps through Katila. Sh'dar suffers two broken legs and a head injury and is put out of commission for a while. The similarity to his sister's situation from their childhood is not lost on him.
735 AL & 59 Turns: He makes a full recovery, but the Healers insist he doesn't do anything mentally or physically strenuous for at least another Turn. Sh'dar very much resents this, as important things are happening and big decisions are being made, but he ultimately agrees that his future health is more important. They are among the last to return North.
736 AL & 60 Turns: When the Weyrs split up, Sh'dar and Adraith remain in Telgar. They feel they've had enough moving for a while.
737-738 AL & 61-62 Turns: Sh'dar tries to help with re-establishing the dragonriders. He generally feels they are being to easy on the Lord Holders, letting them get away with too much, and he is perfectly happy to explain the problems with current policy to anyone who seems sympathetic.

Scars & Markings: He's picked up a few over the years, but nothing too serious. The most noticeable is one on his nose from a gold Flight he'd won, which he's rather proud of.
Weyrlinghood: Adraith was a very dark hatchling, and he was almost mistaken for brown when he first hatched. Young Adraith was all leg, and sometimes had trouble figuring out where to put his feet. Flying was a gift for Adraith, and his awkwardness was totally lost in the air.
Adulthood: Though still dark, Adraith's hide matured into one that was undeniably bronze. His wings have darker bars along them, with lighter speckling on the undersides and along his sides. There are also darker patches on his elbows and ankles, and a stripe at the base of his neck. He is well proportioned, though he stands a bit tall for his size. The majority of his body mass is in the shoulder and chest, giving him powerful wings. They allow him to fly fast in short bursts and turn sharply.

Mindvoice: Adraith has a steely voice. Even when he's being playful and kind he sounds like a knife. Cold.

General Character Traits: Adraith likes to present himself as a proper, powerful bronze in his prime. Which he is, fair, but he's also a bit of a sweetheart, which he feels ruins his image a bit. He's used to trying to set an example for other dragons from Sh'dar's stint as Wingleader, and Adraith has never fallen out of the habit.

He very much has a 'stern dad' air about him. Approachable, can be loving, but you do not want to disappoint him.

Habits/Mannerisms: A lot of Adraith's statements are intoned as questions, even when there is nothing ambiguous or uncertain about the situation. It often sounds like he's trying to be polite by not assuming, but ends up sounding condescending.

Likes:
Snow: It's pretty and fun to play in. Adraith is careful to appear proper on most occasions, but snowfall is one of the few times he will be playful in public.
Sunset and Sunrise: They are very lovely times, the sky is so beautiful, especially to fly in. Plus, he looks amazing in the lighting.
Flying: Adraith is a powerful flyer and he genuinely enjoys it. Though he's grown out of his awkward, long-legged weyrling stage he still feels a bit self conscious when he's not in the air.

Dislikes:
Failure: He holds everyone, including himself, to very high standards. It's annoying when others fail, but he takes his own personal failures very hard. Adraith also sometimes takes on blame for others' failures if he decides he is in some way responsible.
Tunnel Snakes: Horrid creatures. He takes great enjoyment in tearing any he comes across to shreds.
Numbweed: The stuff smells and it is very hard to convince Adraith that having it on him is for his own good.

Strengths:
Charming: He may be a bit intimidating and focused, but Adraith is also very good at weaseling his way into other dragons' good graces - especially golds.
Dependable: When he is asked to do something, you can always count on him doing it.
Accessible : Even if he may be a bit intense and intimidating, Adraith can't help but want to be there for others, especially younger dragons. "You're going to get out of shape at this rate." Sh'dar told his bronze, looking down at the sleeping beast with an eyebrow raised, arms full of supplies for cleaning a dragon. Adraith opened a single eye.

No I'm not. He said contemptuously. I am perfectly fit, thank you. And it's hardly my fault we haven't been assigned a Wing yet. Sh'dar chuckled, gently kicking the great bronze wedge of a head.

"We'll just have to start a personal regiment then, won't we?" He said, grabbing a leather bag from against the wall and filling it with the cleaning supplies.

You think that's necessary? Adraith asked, in the tone that indicated he knew the answer. Sh'dar reached over to scratch a brow ridge fondly.

"Bath time. Up you get."

Adraith gave a great sigh, but the prospect of a bath was nice and he slowly rose, shaking out his limbs in preparation for the short glide down to the lake. It wasn't far enough to even count as proper flying. Hmn. Maybe they really did need more exercise. He presented his foreleg for Sh'dar to use as an aid to climb up onto him, and within a minute Sh'dar was perched on the dragon's back, bath supplies carefully placed in front of him. Adraith unfolded his wings, giving them a few good shakes before launching from the weyr ledge. Sh'dar grinned at the familiar jump his stomach made at the moment of takeoff. He missed proper flying. Really, they had no excuse not to do it more often. Adraith, sensing his rider's thoughts, took them upward instead of gliding lazily straight toward the lake. Within a few wingbeats they were rising steadily, both basking in the joy of flight.

Soon enough they were near the lake, but much, much higher. Adraith sent a simple question to his rider, though again he already knew the answer.

Dive?

'Of course.

And Adraith dove, Sh'dar holding on, years of experience keeping him confidently in place even without proper riding straps. He had his arm wrapped around the bronze neck as far as they would go, watching the lake approach below. Adraith stayed course until the last possible moment, flaring his wings, the draft created propelling him a few feet back up as his tail cut a line in the glassy surface of the lake. He now lazily glided over to the shore, depositing his rider and looking at him expectantly for his bath and oiling. Sh'dar smiled fondly at him, making sure everything was in order before starting to bathe Adraith.

"That was fun, wasn't it?" He said breathless with the exhilaration of the dive, "We need to do things like that more. Can't let ourselves get old and boring yet." Adraith crooned, agreeing with Sh'dar.

General Character Traits: Jimeridan is a good natured man. He takes his position as Lord of Nabol seriously, but is fairly relaxed overall. Family is one of the most important things to him, a value imparted to him by his father. His daughters are the light of his life, and he's sometimes given a bit of a side-eye by other lords for how much leniency he gives them (for example, letting some of them reach their 20s unmarried). Jimeridan enjoys the luxury his lifestyle allows, and takes full advantage of it, indulging in fine wines, art, and decadent celebrations.

As a lord, Jimeridan is generally fair. He does care about the wellbeing of his people, but more along the lines of 'if famine strikes, I will make sure the people are fed' than 'I should eradicate poverty.' Most of the time Jimeridan knows his own limitations and is perfectly happy to let other people take the lead on projects to make sure they turn out the best way possible - as long as it's very clear that it was his idea and he's ultimately in charge and any success the person he puts in charge of the project has is because he chose to give that person the task.

Habits/Mannerisms: He doodles a lot. Sometimes on important documents. Probably on personal letters too.

His Daughters: Despite really wanting a son, Jimeridan loves his daughters and spoils them rotten. This extends to his younger sisters as well. Just doting on the younger women of his family. Heck, it sometimes even transfers to young women who remind him of family.
Good Alcohol: Jimeridan is something of a snob when it comes to alcohol, especially wine, and always makes sure his household cellar is always well stocked with the best alcohol he can get with his means (which are pretty darn good).
Art: He collects artwork from around Pern and uses it to decorate the Lord's house. This includes paintings, tapestries, and finely carved furniture, if it looks fancy Jimeridan likes it and wants to display it in his home. Since he has the money, he can easily afford whatever art he wants, and is known to act as a patron to favorite artists (buy their work, encourage rich friends to buy their work, commission things, etc).

Dislikes:
A Minor Holder: There's some minor holder under Nabol that just really gets on Jimeridan's nerves and he will go out of his way to thwart this man just because he can.
Gossip: Jimeridan knows the importance of information, but rumor and gossip just seems so unnecessary to him. Makes it more effort to figure out what the truth is, and most gossip is just mean spirited and he's not about that.
Infighting in Families: As a highly family-oriented man, Jimeridan takes great offense to families who are constantly in strife with each other. He thinks that everyone should accept their role in the family and fulfill it, as well as love the rest of the family unconditionally. He's real, real lucky that his brothers are all rather uninterested in being Lord Holder and given him little trouble, allowing him to believe his family is one big, happy unit with no internal issues like other noble families.

Strengths:
Delegation: Jimeridan is great at figuring out who the best person for a job is and assigning them to that job.
Cooperative: When it doesn't hurt him or Nabol, Jimeridan has no issues with cooperation or compromise to further a larger goal.
Relaxed: He is fairly calm and even keeled for a Lord Holder, and it takes a lot to get him truly angry or riled up.

Flaws:
Rich: He just isn't able to truly comprehend what life is like for people who are not family to a Lord Holder. It's not out of malice, it's just ignorance. He is the embodiment of this gif.

Education Details: As the eldest son of a Lord Holder, Jimeridan was taught from childhood how to run a Hold, with the expectation he would inherit. He did well enough in his lessons; he's not unintelligent by any means, but not exactly an academic mind. He understands everything well enough to check someone else's work, and he's excellent at delegating and choosing the right person for the job.


RP Sample
Having recently reached his fifty-second turn, Jimeridan, Lord Holder of Nabol, was starting to worry about having an heir. Not that he planned on dying anytime soon if he could help it, but it never hurt to be prepared. And heirs, proper heirs with the training to be a good Lord, took time to be ready to step up to lordship. He himself had been prepared for inheriting Nabol since birth, while his current heir, his brother Maveridan, had not, at least not the same way. The man wouldn't be a horrible lord, but he was far more interested in those canines of his he bred for hunting than running a Hold. No, Maveridan was not an ideal heir, and neither were any of his other brothers.

Jimeridan sighed, leaning back in his office chair. Despite not being ideal, Maveridan was still, at the moment, the best choice of his brothers. However, Maveridan wasn’t much younger than Jimeridan himself, and, truly, a younger heir would be better. Of the remaining three brothers of Nabol, Veridian was too ambitious, and not in a good way, and Rinderian hadn’t really realized he was an adult now and had to accept responsibilities. Jazarin could do well, but as the youngest brother, only twenty turns and never expected to inherit, he had been allowed the most lax childhood of all of them. Jimeridan had been making some movements to change that, bringing Jazarin in to meetings, encouraging him to help handle smaller disputes around the Hold, starting to train him as a potential heir.

The best solution, and the simplest, Jimeridan thought, closing his eyes tiredly, hoping to stave off the mounting headache — and an unnecessary one, as he’d had these exact thoughts before, in the same order — was for him to have a son. Which was, of course, only a simple solution on paper. He’d been hoping for a son since his first child was born twenty-six turns ago, and still no luck. Seven daughters, who he loved dearly, but not a single son.

There was still a chance though. Haleah was pregnant again, and with any luck, this one, this one would be a son, and Jimeridan would have his heir that could be prepared for the task from birth, raised with the knowledge he would be Lord of Nabol.

Well, there was no use spending time worrying about it. The child would be born in a few months, save any tragedy before then, and nothing he could do would make sure it was a son. Best he could do was make sure his wife was comfortable, healthy, and ensure she was kept away from as much stress and worry as he could manage. In fact, he should go check on her immediately. Jimeridan pushed himself from his chair to go find Haleah and spoil her a bit. He wasn’t getting any of the paperwork he’d set out to work on for the afternoon done, might as well spend time with his wife. Yes, that sounded better, he decided, halfheartedly straightening up his desk before heading out of the room. The servant who was stationed at the end of the hallway was informed to send someone to his wife’s suites with a message if they needed him, and headed off to find Haleah.

General Character Traits: Verec cares about nothing more than Healing. His daughter is maybe a close second. Maybe. He especially loves teaching young Healers, seeing their determination to succeed and helping them reach that potential.

His temper is a bit legendary, and having Verec yell at you or give an 'I am disappointed in you' speech is a rite of passage for young Healers. He will lay out how everything that went wrong is your fault while simultaneously blaming the entire situation on himself.

Habits/Mannerisms: He will recite steps for various medical procedures to focus, usually when angry to keep himself from getting into arguments too often. Usually done in his head, will sometimes be spoken aloud. May also go through lists of plants and their possible medical uses.

Opinions:
  Threadfall Theory: It will probably be back. They can't prove it's stopped, so no harm beinf prepared.
  Stealing/Kidnapping: Absolutely incensed, the utter nerve of stealing promising Healers! And other crafters, whatever. He doesn't care about those.

  His Students: Verec is passionate about helping other Healers succeed. He often takes time to teach classes, though he's had less time for that since becoming Masterhealer. He has little patience for those who aren't trying their best, but as long as someone is putting in genuine effort to lear Verec is determined to help them be the best Healer they can be.
  Botany: It was never his focus, but Verec enjoyed learning different herbs and plants and their properties and uses. If he needs a safe place to just think, he will often go to the herb storage rooms. He also grows plenty of plants and herbs in his office.
  Anything with Caffeine: When you're a workaholic, caffeine is great.

Dislikes:
  Patients Who Act Like they Know Things: Honestly, who here spent over 20 turns mastering Healing? Not you, so shut up and do what I tell you.
  Not Cleaning Tools: Anyone who doesn't properly clean Healing supplies or areas ends up receiving his intense displeasure. Keep things sterile, you imbeciles!
  Being Ill: Verec knows how to take care of himself when he's sick, but it's so terribly inconvenient to keep himself from work and he will push the bounds of taking care of himself as far as he can without endangering someone else's health. For example, he may do paperwork long into the night instead of resting but will never go near someone with a compromised immune system when he's sick.

Strengths:
  Coolheaded: Verec keeps a cool head under stress and in urgent circumstances. His great strength is remaining calm and making rational choices when someone's life is on the line.
  Indefatigable: Once he's set his mind to doing something, he will accomplish it. He was tireless as a student, striving to be the best in his age group. As a master, he shows the same tenacity with solving problems and promoting the needs of the Healer Hall.
  Intuitive: There is a reason for all the things Healers do and are taught, but not all situations have been encountered before. Verec is usually able to evaluate an unknown situation and successfully navigate it using knowledge, logic, and instinct.

Flaws:
  Temper: The coolheadedness Verec shows in emergencies is for fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, not anger. It is very easy to get him riled up and snapping at someone.

He gets the details of the Plague from his former mentor, who as a disease expert, was consulted by the Weyrs before they all emptied. Verec thinks it's a tragedy, but does not approve of his mentor's obsession with it; the dragons are gone, there's nothing more for him to do and there are living people for him to focus on.
718 AL & 27 Turns: Verec gets tired of the constant questions about why he's not married yet. He proposes to Ilaera, an arrangement of convenience for both of them (she's 29 and in the holds that draws all sorts of questions). They are not in love, but they are friends and can coexist peacefully so it works for them. She starts traveling with him on his assignments, finding traveling enjoyable and it gives her a break from work.
720 AL & 29 Turns: Both Verec and Ilaera are surprised by how well marriage works for them. It gives them both someone safe to confide in and provide support, something they're both a bit too proud to ask for of other people.

730 AL & 39 Turns: Verec starts teaching more specialized and advanced classes, working more with Journeymen than Apprentices, though he still teaches some introductory level classes.
732 AL & 41 Turns: Obtains mastership.
733 AL & 42 Turns: Is officially asked to remain at the Healer Hall and removed from the active roster of travelling Healers. He remains on call for emergencies.
736 AL & 45 Turns: Appointed Masterhealer. Reasons for his appointment include competence, how much he cares for and prioritizes Healers and their craft, and the regard Lord Holders have for him, maintained after saving the one Lord Holder's son in 724.
738 AL & 47 Turns: His daughter Vaera expresses an interest in becoming a Healer, which Verec supports, though he makes sure she knows how difficult it will be for her and how hard she will have to work. He can't show her any favoritism, after all.

List of Reasons Verec is Not A Fan of Dragonriders:
- Stealing Healers with not even a word (honestly, Quennell would have given them help if they'd asked that didn't involve destroying the careers of promising Healers)
- Leaving so many people high and dry when they fled, namely Ilaera (she was weyrbred, she knew nothing about living as a holder, and she and many other former weyrfolk ended up in dire straits because of it)
- Causing his former mentor to become obsessed with their Plague (the man was a great Healer and some mystery plague kept him from focusing on real and present problems, and arguing about it led their relationship to deteriorate)
- Quennell retired essentially because of them, again 'ruining' a great Healer
- They're so sharding self righteous about everything
- They just took another of his Journeymen???

Education Details: Verec was an intensely dedicated student and spent almost all of his time trying to be a better Healer and learn as much as possible. He spent part of his apprenticeship doing inventory in the storage rooms, which did not make him hate the place, but instead made it a safe place for him, and started his interest in herbs.

This was getting ridiculous.

Verec managed to wait until the Healer updating him on the Ista Hatching left his office before he started swearing out loud, frustrated at what he heard. Dragonriders had officially returned and had no need to kidnap Healers to survive anymore, and they kept taking them anyway! Verec knew, rationally, that it was not the dragonriders' intention for the Healers present at their Hatchings to Impress; it ended up being more work for them, likely, as the Impressed Healer had no training around dragons. And he couldn't really blame the Healers who Impressed, could he? Not their faults.

Sighing, Verec grabbed a scrap piece of paper and starting writing up a list of things he needed to do in response to this. One, write to Ebenezar or whatever they were calling him now to check in with him. The young man had been in a few of his classes, and Verec felt a responsibilty towards him as both his teacher and as the Masterhealer.

Next was to figure out a way to keep Journeymen from Impressing when they weren't supposed to. Verec rapped his fingers on his desk, thinking. He didn't know exactly how Impressing dragons worked, though he had been to a decent number of Hatchings by now. He quickly found another scrap piece of paper to start outline all he knew of dragon Hatchings. Looking at his notes, there was one thing that stood out to Verec; all the Candidates seemed to be under thirty. That would work. It should decrease Impressions of Healers and would make sure there were more experience Healers present, so there was a greater chance of saving mauled Candidates (honestly, he should probably start attending Hatchings himself if children were going to be getting torn apart with any frequency. He was one of the best trained to handle that sort of situation). Satisfied this could work, he went back to his to-do list.

All Healers who attend Hatchings must be at least thirty turns old.

Pern has a high infant mortality rate. Keep this in mind. Most families will produce 4-6 children, of which maybe half will make it to adulthood. Most Pernese die between 50 and 70 if they hold ranking or 'cushy' positions in life. Low ranking peasants and the like are more inclined to die in their late 40's due to the harsher lifestyle they lived. Dragonriders average about 100 years, and have a slowed rate of aging. A LOT of women die in childbirth, especially with their first child, or if they are old and still falling pregnant. It is considered a sin for Hold and Hall women to abort, and even Weyr women are frowned upon, as all children are needed.

General Appearance: He's of fairly average build for a dragonrider. Athletic enough, from caring for a dragon, but a bit softer than a lot of the other riders. Q'len has never bothered much with keeping himself fit, at least no effort beyond necessary activities.

Due to his fairly spectacular glasscrafting apprenticeship, his hands and forearms are dotted with small burns from his various disastrous attempts at crafting.

Dressing Style: Q'len is not a picky dresser, as long as it's clean and comfy he will wear it. He loves soft things like sweaters. Can't knit for the life of him (he's tried), but he has a lot of soft, knitted things, and wears sweaters and scarves as long as he possibly can into the warmer months.

General Character Traits: Q'len is, in all ways, something of a nerd. He's always been bookish and while he can remember all these different facts he's learned in a book or heard in a Harper's song when it comes to practical things he's not so talented. Q'len becomes terribly tongue-tied around people who he looks up to or finds attractive, and tends to say stupid shit a lot as a result. His first instinct whenever something goes wrong is to blame himself - he just kind of assumes he fucked something up by this point, it's usually what happens.

Of course, because he's constantly embarrassing himself Q'len is super compassionate towards other people doing dumb or embarrassing shit. While his dragon cares only about herself and her rider, Q'len can't help but care about and want to help others, even when it's detrimental to his own happiness or wellbeing.

Habits/Mannerisms: He's always pushing his hair behind his ears, especially when nervous.

  Passionate: Even if he's bad at something, Q'len will give it his all and keep trying just about forever.
  Memory: Q'len has a fantastic memory for random information. Not so great for remembering whether or not he took a bath or had lunch on a given day, but he can recite a whole lot of history.
  Understanding: Due to being not-so-great at a lot of things, Q'len is pretty compassionate towards other people and accepting of other's flaws and shortcomings; if he's not accepting of others, who will be accepting of him?

Flaws:
  Inept: He's just. Not that good at a lot of stuff. He tries, but he's really only good at reading and remembering random facts.
  Abrupt: Q'len has a tendency to hop between ideas and topics very quickly, and people can't always follow his train of thought. It's not uncommon for him to start talking about something completely out of the blue that he can provide a very complex and difficult to follow path of how he got there.

723 AL & 13 Turns: Quelendar is officially apprenticed at the Glasscrafthall. He is the second of his siblings to do so. He quite frankly has a real bad time of it, failing at almost all the practical tasks of the craft.
727 AL & 17 Turns: The glasshall archivist takes Quelendar as a personal apprentice. Quelendar is absolutely overjoyed, because it means he gets to read and write instead of constantly burn his hands and publicly fuck up.
732 AL & 22 Turns: The hall allows Quelendar to advance to Journeyman, but it's pretty clear to everyone he'll never pass that rank. He is a good enough archivist however, so his skills there are the reason he ever passes his apprenticeship.
735 AL & 25 Turns: Quelendar is among the first group of officially Searched Candidates since the plague, in the first month or so of the turn. He Impresses not long after, to green Leith, becoming Q'len. There was a bit of awkwardness about him being from a Hall, but he had honestly been planning on quitting anyway, and the Hall considered him a bit of an embarrassment and having him Searched instead of dropping out saved face for both them (especially his master glasscrafter father) and Quelendar, so it was allowed.
736 AL & 26 Turns: He didn't have any opinions about what Weyr he lived in, so let the leadership place him and Leith wherever they felt like. They ended up in Fort.

It was a perfectly average day, as Fort finally started warming up after the winter so everyone was spending time outside, enjoying the weather. Q'len was outside, and the weather was nice, but he wasn't enjoying himself nearly as much as everyone else seemed to be. It was over something stupid, too. One of his friends, a bluerider, had stopped by Fort Hold the other day to buy the finer things the Weyr didn't supply them with, and earlier that day he'd shown off a few of his acquisitions. One of the things was a pretty little glass pendant he'd bought for some girl he liked, which was fine on it's own, but Q'len had recognized the style. He knew who had made the piece, was in fact very well acquainted with the crafter: his older brother. Menqander was a Senior Journeyman now, and apparently his work was considered good enough now that it was being traded between Holds. Which wasn't bad! Q'len was proud of his brother, just, well, it gave him a few less than pleasant emotions to deal with. Like the eternal shame of his own failure as a glasscrafter.

You're thinking too hard, Leith complained, from where she lay several lengths away making a meal of some unfortunate creature. Q'len sometimes couldn't believe how used to the crunching of bones he had gotten, but it barely phased him now. At least in the context of an eating dragon. He'd probably still freak out over bone crunching in other contexts, but thankfully he hadn't had opportunity to test that.

"What should I think about instead?" Q'len asked her, sighing at his green dragon. She snorted before taking another bite.

Something less depressing. Anything.

"How very helpful your suggestions are," he grumbled, but he tried to focus back in on the book that was lying half open in his lap. It had been intended as a distraction from his thoughts, but it had been failing in its task. Maybe the eleventh time was the charm?

Pern has a high infant mortality rate. Keep this in mind. Most families will produce 4-6 children, of which maybe half will make it to adulthood. Most Pernese die between 50 and 70 if they hold ranking or 'cushy' positions in life. Low ranking peasants and the like are more inclined to die in their late 40's due to the harsher lifestyle they lived. Dragonriders average about 100 years, and have a slowed rate of aging. A LOT of women die in childbirth, especially with their first child, or if they are old and still falling pregnant. It is considered a sin for Hold and Hall women to abort, and even Weyr women are frowned upon, as all children are needed.

General Appearance: Turns of dragonriding and caring about his fitness mean that D'gan is physically fit, with very little extra weight on him that isn't muscle. A defined jawline gives him a fairly boxy face shape.

He carries himself with a casual confidence, one that is fairly common among dragonriders. D'gan never slouches and moves with intent.

Dressing Style: D'gan dresses well, though nothing fancy. His clothes are always clean and fit him and he keeps himself well put together. He doesn't go in for bright colors, preferring neutral tones: whites, browns, grays, and blacks.

  Scars & Markings: Plenty, from other dragons in Flights, from the Southern Continent, etc. Most noticeable is a few across the bridge of his nose and a thick scar running through his mouth on the left side of his head. He's not pretty, and is probably not the first dragon you want a holder seeing (unless you're trying to scare them).
  Weyrlinghood: Patchy and dark, lighter on underbelly and lower legs. Gangly, Irrigith manages to stay upright through sheer determination. Until about his 9th or 10th month his head was far too big for his body.
  Adulthood: Irrigith fills out nicely, though he's still a bit tall and long for browns (pre-plague, he's practically small now). While big, he's all lean muscle, not bulk. He's lightened in color over the turns, staying the darkest along his spine and on his head with striations in various shades along his wings. He also has a ring of darker color around the base of his neck.

Stolen Crafters are almost always going to be the eldest or second eldest son that was of a well to-do family in order to pay for their Education. Almost no dragonriders EXCLUDING Katilan Impressed will have a Craft education. A detailed explanation will be needed for those that are. Only one in a blue moon women are passed on to the Craft Halls, and those that are very rarely make it beyond Sr. Apprentice, even in women friendly crafts. Pern has a high infant mortality rate. Keep this in mind. Most families will produce 4-6 children, of which maybe half will make it to adulthood. Most Pernese die between 50 and 70 if they hold ranking or 'cushy' positions in life. Low ranking peasants and the like are more inclined to die in their late 40's due to the harsher lifestyle they lived. Dragonriders average about 100 years, and have a slowed rate of aging. A LOT of women die in childbirth, especially with their first child, or if they are old and still falling pregnant. It is considered a sin for Hold and Hall women to abort, and even Weyr women are frowned upon, as all children are needed.
