Even with as much time had passed; had it really been only eight turns since B'jin had taken her from her home? Kahleena was still surprised with how suddenly mind could snap back to either that moment or the day Okalinath had risen for the first time.

It was true that both occasions had terrified her, in different ways but the bitter taste of fear that burned down her throat almost forcing it closed with the rising tide of panic that came racing along her veins like ice water down from the mountains. Kahleena had the reaction mostly under control now; at least she liked to believe she did.

In fact, she no longer immediately went to panic when the familiar heat started to build in her limbs and caused her dragon to become brilliant in her golden shine.

You're moping again

The voice was intrusive, it had surprised her on the day of Impression but very welcome and now Kahleena found it far more comforting than had initially been the case. She found it impossible to put into exact how words how she felt about Okalinath You love me, silly beloved. Just like I love you even when you are a stick-in-the-mud <<Yes, yes. You big scaly eating machine. I love you and I wasn't moping...the view, well...it made me sentimental>> which was true.

While Telgar was not exactly the same as Ruatha, standing in view of the mountains there was just enough to turn her thoughts in that direction.

Sentimental is moping. It just sounds less silly she felt her lips smiling even though she wanted to hold into some of the sensation of sadness that had carried over from her introspection <<You're impossible. I thought you were sleeping actually...>> Kahleena added as she turned on one heel and started to walk back down into the main sections of the Weyr.

It wouldn't be long before she came across someone. Kahleena was hoping it wouldn't be N'vian though He is very dashing; you should talk to him more. Then you won't stumble over words it was wonderfully sound advice which at least for now Kahleena was failing utterly in either following or appreciating <<You best not be shouting this like normal>> the fairly gentle reprimand enough to secure a feeling of indignation but no shy embarrassment that would suggest Kahleena would need to spend at least the rest of the day bright red.

Well you can't avoid him forever - and! I am getting better with my volume... though Kahleena certainly expected that Okalinath would need reminding from time to time no matter how old.

Where are you going? Rhezalth’s tone was exasperated, and slightly grumpy as he watched his rider make his way along the path, flying overhead, just high enough to not hit anything with his wings, but far too low to be safe. I thought you were going to find your father?

“I am,” N’mor answered without any preamble as he glanced up at his dragon. “He’s busy at the moment.” The fact that Larrikith had informed him that B’jin was preoccupied for the present time (N’mor didn’t ask, but it sounded like R’nd was the cause for said ‘busy’.) and that they should come back a bit later. He was amused that Rhezalth had missed Larrikith’s comment, but it wasn’t entirely uncommon event; he had probably been too busy watching the green that had taken flight shortly after they arrived. N’mor was just pleased that Rhezalth hadn’t opted to give chase.

She’s not my type. Rhezalth inserted primly, angling off to the side and landing on an empty weyrledge. With the dragons spread so thin across the Weyrs, there were plenty of empty ones available for a visiting bronze to , You’re about to have company. Intrigued, N’mor looked up in time to side step swiftly, avoiding a collision with Kahleena; he extended his left hand to gently hold her just above the elbow, worried he’d have put her off balance with his apparent appearance from nowhere.

Releasing her as quickly as he’d reached out to grab her, N’mor eyed the goldrider thoughtfully. He had heard much of Okalinath’s comments, and a slight smirk curled up one corner of his lips, though the expression was far from threatening. “Sorry, Kahleena. I didn’t realise you were out here.” At least, not until the last moment. Okalinath was known to be loud and a loud dragon’s rider could be just about anywhere. “How are you today?”

He might as well fill the time he had to waste being polite to the lady; a lack of manners never got anyone anywhere of use. Besides, N’mor was a genuinely polite young man.

There wasn't any doubt that Kahleena was partly to blame for the fact he'd tumbled into her or perhaps vice versa given that after all she had really been the one who was distracted in the first place. Kahleena had imagined she'd left behind her rather clumsy and uncertain teenage years but clearly that ship had not finished sailing off into the horizon - at least not quite yet.

"I-it's fine. I'm the one who wasn't paying the proper amount of attention" she insisted on keeping to the truth and while it would be easy to get angry or frustrated with him, it really hadn't been his fault given that she was the one lost in conversation and introspection and besides that Kahleena had never been interested in that sort of rude and judgemental approach to any situation "I-I guess I'm good" the last thing that Kahleena liked when talking with others was her tendency to stutter in those moments as she adjusted and tried to relax enough to lessen the effect and stop her sounding like some kind of special fool.

Did he hurt you? You need to be careful, Kahleena the sound of the words indicated that her dragon was a little put out at the whole idea of someone mowing down her rider, even by accident "N'mor, right? Are you heading somewhere urgently?" while Kahleena was many things forgetful in respect of names and faces hadn't ever been part of her own inherent flaws.

She was good with both and it was a trait she relied upon to make sure that the people she was now at least partly responsible for didn't feel like she was ignoring or just uncaring in respect of their welfare I am close by now it wouldn't take much for her to arrive and make herself comfortable given that Okalinath was actually a good few feet smaller than the younger bronze and if Kahleena was remembering right from one of her dragons previous clutches.

She didn't actually remember who Impressed at each one but Kahleena did like to know those little details about the people in her Weyr if such information was available for her to figure out. Okalinath banked slightly as she settled alongside the same flight path that the larger bronze was taking; she was confident enough to fly without causing an issue and curious enough to keep a closer eye on her rider.

The one thing to draw her attention as she properly focused on the young man. She remembered him best of all from the events of the landslide - the amputation had been one of the hard choices that had been made in respect of the survivors.

Kahleena was glad that she hadn't needed to be the one making them, she was no healer but they'd all banded together to help out as much as possible. Even if that had only ended up being boiling water and fetching items that were needed. It had been a horrible time and not something she felt any urge to remember, even as she felt Okalinath peering out through her eyes to check out the young rider for her own reasons.

Which was not something Kahleena was interested in speculating upon right now, the last thing she wanted to encourage was Okalinath to say something that would be overheard and cause her to blush or make worse her stuttering "Or looking for someone?" possibly her, Kahleena wouldn't be surprised as her distraction could well have resulted in her running late for some of the meetings later in the day.

“Hardly,” N’mor disagreed mildly, for he had been just as distracted by dragons as the woman before him, though he wasn’t particularly in the mood to banter about who was more or less at fault for the near miss. When she answered his generic how-are-you with a just as generic I’m-well, N’mor smiled slightly and nodded his head, setting his hair awry so he had to lift his hand to brush it away from his eyes. Nothing like growing locks getting in the way of one’s vision!

“Yes, and not particularly. I thought I’d drop by to see dad, but he’s otherwise engaged for the time being. I figured I’d head down to the kitchens and beg a snack while I waited for him to finish being ‘otherwise occupied’.” A wry smile tilted the young man’s lips, and he shrugged his shoulders, green eyes studied Kahleena thoughtfully, his infamous and expressionless look fixated on his face. He had been highly amused when Larrikith had confided in him just how much his stare was inclined to make people feel uncomfortable; he didn’t try to! It was just the way his face fell when he wasn’t otherwise expressing himself.

“You seemed to be on a mission. I hope I’m not holding you up?” Eyebrows arched slightly in question, even as N’mor lifted his gaze when he caught a glimpse of gold to see Okalinath settling herself down not far away. He found the idea of her dragon coming to protect her from him rather amusing and also slightly insulting, but he made no comment of it. Sitting in the empty weyr, Rhezalth grumbled quietly in the corner of N’mor’s mind but kept his own council rather than anger the gold or her rider. They both knew when the pick their battles, and getting ruffled while visiting another’s Weyr wasn’t on either of their to-do list.

She'd seen other people who were far more capable of having a conversation with someone, even from a point of knowing next to nothing about the other person at the beginning. Kahleena had experienced a degree of envy when it came to witnessing though were in possession of those skills; it was not an achievement she was ever going to reach.

That had been something which Kahleena had eventually been able to handle and put aside. Putting away the rather immature feelings of jealously had allowed her to recognise the strengths which she did actually possess as an individual "Oh? Occupied...oh-OH! Occupied; ummm I suppose that makes sense. I was heading for...well actually the kitchens wouldn't be a bad idea. I-I should see..." there were times when Kahleena almost managed to control her Holder-bred reactions to the idea of the open sexuality which existed as the norm through the whole Weyr.

While she was no longer as likely to stand up and scream her disgust there were times when it was simply impossible for her to not react in spite of her desire to avoid standing out so completely.

Prude. It is only sex the thought was more languid now as her gold settled down, her wings drawn close to her body and her eyes closing in a half-lidded fashion. Kahleena heartily wished she could be as quickly relaxed but she also loved that Okalinath saw it as her business, even motivated heavily by her own nosey curiosity and desire to be chatterbox, to come over and see what her rider was up to and lend the weight of physical presence to provide comfort.

"That is I planned on checking in there" Kahleena had a lot of hats to wear; a lot of places and people whom she needed to speak with and work alongside.

Usually it went well enough but hiccups were more common than she'd have liked to be the case, especially when it came to the time that Kahleena had to spend with the old goldrider who'd lost her dragon and now provided help - supposedly "What were you hoping to find snack-wise?" she asked, hoping it was at least moderately friendly to be that interested in his plans. Although it was equally true that Kahleena wouldn't object or be offended if he chose not to say anything at all "It always smells so good at this time of day" having always had a hearty appetite the chance to indulge was a welcome one.

N’mor shrugged slightly, not really sure what to tell the woman. He had been planning to eat, but he hadn’t had any plans on what it was he was going to be stealing from the busy staff. “Probably whatever is left over from lunch,” he answered honestly, vaguely amused by the stuttering attempts of the woman before him to socialise. It was abundantly clear it wasn’t a skill she was particularly strong in, though he wasn’t so cruel as to openly mock her. Green eyes sparkled with his own private amusement, however.

Not one to be overly vocal, N’mor nodded once at her comment on the smell of the kitchens, and then indicated that he was going to begin trekking in that direction once more, glancing over his shoulder to see if the goldrider was going to follow along, or wander off to do her own thing once more. When it was apparent she was going to follow along, N’mor actively chewed over some ideas for topics; he wasn’t a big talker, and coming up with things to talk about with someone he didn’t know was not something he was prone to doing. Indeed, the young man tended to avoid both people he didn’t know, and people who were active talkers.

“Did you attend the Hatching at Igen?” Turning to look at Kahleena, N’mor raised his eyebrows curiously. He’d been lucky to have the time to attend the Hatching that had occurred the day before, though he wasn’t sure the goldrider he was keeping company would have been able to. A curious glance was sent towards her gold, for he knew she had a clutch upon the Sands. Most gold dragons were jealous, but he knew Okalinath to be a rather relaxed dragon, though he wasn’t about to draw more conclusions than that. “All twenty-seven eggs Hatched and Impressed, including another young gold.” There were really quite a few gold dragons wandering around these days!

You can keep an eye on when Okalinath is due to fly, clutch or Hatch by going to the menu under 'HOME -> Hatching Calendar' and picking the RL year from the Excell tabs. She had a clutch on the sands that Hatched October 27th but this thread is before that date :)
I'll give you access to the Goldrider's Corner this weekend, and you can put together her clutch, since that's a responsibility of the goldrider's player because I'm lazy lol. I'll PM you if I don't see you around over the weekend!

At times she'd wondered how exactly she'd ended up with such a relaxed dragon as her companion; well until Kahleena realised that it worked out for the best. She knew her own strengths had been enhanced with the relationship and connection that existed between her and Okalinath. That was why she wasn't surprised or worried that she'd turned up.

The clutch wasn't so far from where they were at present and Okalinath wasn't likely to hang around for long. She was merely being nosey and probably satisfying her own urge to be social. While Kahleena had nil skill when it came that talent when it came to her gold, Okalinath was a mistress of being friendly and general chit-chat. Kahleena only wished she had even the smallest measure of that ability You are better than you think -- it is rather lovely here though but I'm not sitting all day. We both of other things to hold our attention if there was one thing that her dragon did better than chatting it was reminding Kahleena to embrace the moment.

<<I know. I just want a moment more. What about your eggs, hmm? I'm sure they are hardening wonderfully...>> Mine shall be better than Igen the pride and determination in that mental voice would have been impossible to miss and given that she was speaking with her usual volume it wouldn't surprise Kahleena that the whole Weyr heard it being spoken.

"No, I couldn't go to Igen" saying the words that would have explained why seemed pointless given that no one could miss the clutch on the sands or the presence of the gold dragon watching over them if the smallest intrusion arrived to threaten her eggs.

Kahleena had seen how quickly her Okalinath would react and she pitied anyone caught out in their attempts at sneaking "Though I had heard about it. Especially when it came to the gold being Impressed" that was good news for them all. The dragon population needed to grow after all and that was the only way it would happen -- more golds meant more eggs and that produced more chances for Impression. This was of course critical when and if Thread did return "Did they have trouble getting enough candidates?" she asked.

That was something that Kahleena was curious about.

Thank you! I didn't notice the scrolling the first time or the additional tab when I saw it before but I think I got it all now. Do I need to thread out the Hatching for folks? I won't mind I just want a heads-up in case I have to do that as well. But I'll look for the PM this weekend but I hope we can catch each other.

“Not that I am aware of, my lady,” N’mor answered honestly, though he threw a wan smile over his shoulder at his companion as he opened the door for her, and waited for the goldrider to move through so he could close it behind them. “But I am not entirely sure they would share it if they did.” While communication between the Weyrs was still strong, N’mor had seen some indications of withheld information – mostly by being around his father and learning things that hadn’t been passed along. Between the dragonriders and the Katilans, gossip was practically a lifeblood for many, and N’mor found that despite his being a bronzerider, many underestimated his ability to listen.

“There were plenty upon the Sands, at any rate. I didn’t count them, but it looked to be about three to an egg, plus about ten girls for the gold. Plenty of choices.” He shifted his gaze from the path ahead to glance at Kahleena curiously. “How are the candidates coming together here?” N’mor would usually have been kept abreast, if only because his father was usually a Searchrider and a Weyrlingmaster, but he was aware that B’jin wasn’t doing either this round. He wasn’t sure why, and it was something he’d ask his father when he met up with him after lunch. In the meantime, it proved a relevant topic to converse about with the young weyrwoman beside him.

@Drenai - sorry for the delay! I've almost finished writing up the guide for goldriders too. Hopefully I'll catch you soon and we can go over it together :)
As for this hatching, you're welcome to write a solo post for it if you want, but our PC hatchings will come with more fanfare and lead up so this one is just an NPC one :)
