2023/08/04 Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Thistle!

J'zek swayed gently in time to Sirbuth's stride. The Bronze had grown quickly, nearly six months old and already over half his adult size, according to the Weyrlingmaster. The daily rides, which had been thrilling at first, now felt frustratingly restrictive for both dragon and rider. The Bronze could fly on his own now, but J'zek was eager to take to the sky with his dragon rather than just watch from the ground. At least the restrictions on alcohol and sex had been loosened a bit, though Jez had needed to remind a few of his fellow male Weyrlings that he was not interested in what they were offering. Finding like minded individuals was difficult, but he wasn't about to lower his standards. That was what had gotten the Weyr in the trouble it was in now.

Maybe Gelabrith's will be a better match. J'zek looked toward the lake and the Bronze dragon who was being bathed by his rider. He frowned thoughtfully as his Bronze continued toward the water's edge. He had his "agreement" with J'ver, but he didn't trust the Greenrider anymore than was necessary. He knew better than to think he was the only Bronzerider the man had approached and he was eager to form his own safety net incase J'ver's promises fell through. He had his doubts as to how much power the Greenrider actually held, even if he was S'kef's  weyrmate. Eventually the Brownrider would realize what his slimy little Greenrider was up to and Jez wouldn't be surprised J'ver paid dearly for his deceptions.

J'zek lifted a hand, waving a greeting to the other man before he slipped to the ground. "Morning. Hope you don't mind sharing the water with me and Sirbuth." He said with an amiable grin, waving his Bronze off toward the water as he slipped his sack of supplies off his shoulder. The days when he could use the bathing pools were long gone, but he was grateful that Sirbuth didn't require near constant bathing and oiling anymore, though he still had to keep an eye out for dry patches. After getting out his sand and brush he slipped off his shoes, tossing them further up the bank before rolling up his pant legs. He don't know what sort of man he was dealing with and knew he was going to have to tread lightly with him until he got a better idea as to how receptive he'd be to some sort of an alliance. The Bronzerider was a few years older and that much closer to a position of power than J'zek.

So much stuff had happened in such a short amount of time. The whirlwind of change had spun T'drin's head like a child's toy. The landslide, the move north, and his visit had left T'drin's with a sour taste in his mouth. His visit north had been… Something. Neither his family nor his craft master had been welcoming and it had been unexpected. Hadn't they cared he was alive? They hadn't. In fact his father had told him he was better off dead than a dragonrider, never mind that Gelabrith was bronze, a king among kings (though undoubtably there were other who thought otherwise). It had not changed his father's opinion. His craft master had been somewhat pleased to see him, until he'd seen Gelabrith. The man had lamented the fact T'drin would no longer be an asset to his craft.

Dwelling on such matters is rather beneath you the bronze in question told his rider. The large bronze wallowed in the shallows of the lake as T'drin applied the brush to his side. Gelabrith sighed with pleasure as the man found a particularly itchy spot and rubbed vigorously. What will it change, thinking about it constantly? T'drin shook his head as he declined to answer the bronze's question. It was a human thing, to remember wrongs, not a dragon thing. How he wished he could forget things as quickly as his dragon.

Better you dwell on matters that are more important than your ridiculous northern humans Gelabrith said with distaste. The bronze had not been a fan of their northern compadres, taking his cue more from T'drin than anything else, though the distain his rider's family had shown him had been less than thrilling. The present was much more important to Gelabrith than a recent past that had no bearing on the action of that sneaky little greenrider that had been sniffing about T'drin. I say we agree. See what happens. What harm could it actually do?

T'drin's answer was interrupted by the arrival of one of the newer bronzeriders. T'drin remembered his young bronze, a rough sort much like Gelabrith. He also remembered he was from one of the younger gold's clutches. T'drin waved a hand towards the waters, not that the bronze or his rider waited for an agreement, both settling into the chore before T'drin could get a word in. "Have at it," he said by way of an answer.

With all the meetings with J'ver lately, T'drin had developed a suspicious nature. Was J'zek one of J'ver's puppets? Probably. He was curious to know what the man wanted. Would he attempt to sway T'drin to J'ver's side or would the bronzer try to frighten him away? If that was the case he'd soon learn, T'drin did not scare easily. "It's a good day for bathing wouldn't you agree?" T'drin said with what he hoped was a pleasant smile. The awkwardness of the situation brought an extremely amused rumble from the big bronze in front of him.

"Thanks." J'zek answered, striding toward the water's edge and swinging his gaze out to where Sirbuth was swimming purposefully through the water. The Bronze addressed the task as he did most others, as a chance to improve himself and to showcase just how much better he was than his fellow Weyrlings. This wasn't a time for splashing about or other shenanigans, this was an important exercise that was going to help prepare him for his glorious future. Well his and J'zek's. He didn't mind the work, viewing it as another important step toward his goals. As a Bronze it was also his duty to set an example for those beneath him and provide guidance through his own behavior.

Knowing Sirbuth would not return to shore before he was ready, and knowing any attempts to hurry the Bronze along would also be futile, J'zek took a seat upon a boulder and turned his attention back to T'drin and Gelabrith. He took a moment to admire the Bronze, ignoring the jealous twinge over still having a good stretch of weyrlinghood left to endure before they'd be able to begin making a name for themselves. "Almost perfect." J'zek agreed, not really interested in discussing the weather, but it was as good a way as any to break the ice. "Still I'll be glad once I can return North and enjoy some proper weather again." He said with an easy grin, as he tried to get a feel for T'drin's own feelings toward the North.

A change in weather wasn't the only thing he would enjoy once he could return North. He'd come to the conclusion shortly after his arrival that most of the South's inhabitants were far to lax, both physically and morally. That was never more obvious than in how they allowed themselves to be led by a Brownrider whose weyrmate was a male greenrider. Why one of the resident Bronzeriders hadn't ousted S'kef yet was beyond him. He was convinced it was due to simple laziness, brought on by the easy living to be had in the South. He could readily see how the Weyr was in dire need of a firm hand. The Northern Holds and Halls were unlikely to welcome such a blatant flaunting of tradition by the one who was suppose to be in charge. A Bronzerider in control was what the Weyr needed and preferably one who wasn't bedding another man. It was long overdo for Bronzeriders to rise up and take back their rightful place at the head of the Weyr.
