2023/08/04 Hello loves! While I haven't been writing, I have been working on updating some issues that have been hanging around on the layout! The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Green and Gold dragon flight dates have been shifted to the bottom of the page, where the (useless!) discord widget was located. Where the dragon flights were in the header, is now replaced by a Monthly Event box! This will be updated at the start of each month, with a fun mini-event you can take part in, if you want to! Thistle!

Gabrin had heard of the dragonriders showing up to have some sort of formal greeting with the Lord Holder through both gossip and official channels given his station. He was quick to use that station to squeeze his way into the meeting as well. He sat quietly, observing both sides as the entire situation unfolded around him. The Weyrleader, S’kef, did his best to keep his composure as he apologised for some things, outlined plans for others, and asked to begin Searching once again. The Lord Holder did his best to listen patiently but Gabrin could tell when that was about to snap and barely refrained from smirking when the dragonriders were put in their place and asked to leave.

The two leading men weren’t the only ones he had kept an eye on. Some of the dragonriders seemed to be doing their best to appear charming and set a good example, though he couldn’t say for certain if that was an accurate portrayal of their characters or not. The Weyrsecond, however, seemed to be the one that would prove the most fun and informative on a more one-on-one level. The man seemed to be in over his head and probably held differing views from S’kef who seemed like the type of man that liked things done his way.

He waited until the dragonriders made their way back to their respective dragons since it would open up a chance to catch the Second without the entire group surrounding him and the Lord Holder wouldn’t pay as much notice. It was clear they were all supposed to agree with his stance that the dragonriders were evil and not welcomed but Gabrin wanted to form his own opinion and see which side was the better one to be aligned with. The last time he had been close to a dragon, he was about five and they all looked rather large to him. Now, two decades later, he had to admit that he was still impressed by their size and even the beauty they possessed. Given how tightly bound the men were to their dragons, Gabrin figured that was actually a good opening to his conversation with the brownrider he casually approached.

“He’s a handsome dragon, Weyrsecond,” Gabrin commented lightly as he pulled a folded piece of paper from his pocket and slipped it to the brownrider. “Thanks for the visit and update on your existence. As you can see, we were desperate for your return,” he added as he walked away, making it seem to anyone watching that he had only approached to make some snide comment before dismissing them as they were supposed to do. It was all an act, of course, since the note he had prepared before the meeting in case he found anyone of interest stated he wanted to meet at the local inn and tavern later that evening to discuss things.

Gabrin arrived early to claim a table and a tankard of ale to nurse while he waited for the brownrider to appear. He figured it would be easier on the other man to be waved over rather than try to find the lordling that had given him the note. It never occurred to Gabrin to think the man wouldn’t come or that he’d send someone else in his place. It was far too delicate a situation to allow for any slip ups and betrayals just yet. So when K’ton entered the establishment, Gabrin merely smiled and lifted a hand in greeting to catch the man’s eye and gestured to the empty chair at his table.

K'ton had gazed wide eyed (slightly mind you and he would never admit it) around Telgar Hold. He'd been Telgarian before becoming a rider of Telgar Weyr but he'd never ventured close to the hold that his family owed their allegiance. It had been quite startling when they had landed in an area large enough to accommodate the dragons they rode, to realize that not only was he home but he could simply blink between and see his mother's face. It hadn't really sunk into the brownrider that it was possible now and probably wouldn't for some time.

He listened quietly, shaking his head slightly, and in the background as S'kef and the Lord Holder went over things. He knew the plans, knew what was to be done and what should have been expected but didn't come. He had expected the Lord to allow them proper search, had expected him to greet them as was proper but the crotchety old man hadn't. Instead he'd demanded they leave and refused their search within his walls.

With another shake of his head, K'ton had shifted to stand tall and stride away. What bullshit. The old man really had no right to refuse them search. They had clutches or what would soon be clutches and they needed all the boys they could get. Who knew if there'd be a gold among the many so boys it would be, though K'ton wasn't adverse as some to a girl or two tossed in. He frowned hard when he caught sight of crowd that had begun to gather. Ironth was beginning to pale and he could feel the anxiety radiating off the brown like a hot summer sun.

K'ton… I am ready to leave, the brown told him quietly, his tone anxious and nearing a whine. I know bud, but we can't just yet. There's still things that must be done, he answered with as much reassurance as he could while giving the dragon gentle strokes on his shoulder, Not much longer now. He could only push as much of the love he had for the dragon down their bond as he could. Whether Ironth could take that and use remained to be seen.

When the voice spoke near him, K'ton nearly ignored it but jerked in surprise as the man behind him tacked on "Weyrsecond". It was still a shock that he was weyrsecond. Something his weyrling master would certainly scoff at. "That he is," he told the man taking the note he slipped into K'ton's hand, "And it was more than time to let ourselves known." He watched the man walk away with another shake of his head. At least there were some people around here with a little smarts.

After situating his agitated dragon some ways away from the hold proper, it didn't take K'ton long to find the tavern indicated on the note. Course, finding a little urchin to tell him where it was helped. K'ton walked into the crowded slightly smoky room and looked around for the man that had spoken to him. Blue eyes caught sight of him and K'ton walked towards the table, to take the chair the man waved at. "So… What exactly can I do for you?"

He waved for the waitress’ attention and waved at his ale and held up one finger. A minute later and she came over with a drink for K’ton and disappeared again. Once she had wandered off again and Gabrin was certain no one was interested in them, he finally answered the question with one of his own. “What are you offering?” He took another swig of ale, studying the dragonrider from over the rim. K’ton looked young, but according to tales he had heard growing up, it was hard to judge a dragonrider’s age because of the bond and aging slowly. They could be the same age or K’ton could be ten or twenty turns older than him. All he could assume right then was that the man had some experience under his belt and some level of trust, authority, and possibly even popularity if he managed to swing Weyrsecond.

“I’m simply interested in knowing more about your intentions and how it may benefit me if I decide to support your return instead of joining the currently more strategically placed and powerful side of Telgar.” It was only logical that he wanted to know more about the opposing side. Outside of the obvious fact that they were in hiding for most of his life, Gabrin wasn’t sure why they needed to hate the dragonriders as much as the Lord Holder had but he wasn’t about to go sneaking around behind his father-in-law’s back without a good cause or a good plan. “Convince me and perhaps I can convince other key people for you.”
