Peorray startled awake, momentarily disoriented until recognition kicked in to show her the safety of her own bedroom and the bulk of her dragon beyond. As her heart rate slowed to normal and her eyes adjusted to the dark, she automatically reached out to check on her queen. One of the quirks of the bond was that she wasn’t always sure which dreams were hers and which belonged to Wydrith; this dream, of being chased while fleeing a dire fate, could have been from either of them.

Outside, Wydrith shifted fretfully, peering about her in the dark with widened eyes. The night was still and calm, but a bit nippy still as the springtime air struggled toward summer, and the slight chill felt good against her hide as she sought about for what had disturbed her. They’re watching me, Peorray… She whispered to her rider, gaining her feet. That felt like a better position, preparation for what was to come.

It wasn’t unusual for the gold to dream about being watched, so Peorray wasn’t expecting much as she got out of bed, snagging the thin nightgown on her bedpost as she went in order to protect her skin from the night air. She was in the middle of a jaw-cracking yawn when she cleared the doorway to find her dragon shining brilliantly with more than just the moons’ light. The sight woke her up in a hurry as her heart shot into her throat in an automatic response.

As though her rider’s reaction were a signal she’d been waiting for, Wydrith launched herself into the air, looking longingly at the sky before banking for the feeding pens in obedience to draconic instinct. Her first impulse was to rend and tear, bolt the meat she suddenly craved so she could get to the relative sanctuary of the sky even faster. Flight had always been a joy and a refuge for her, the one place she owned all that she saw and felt as confidence as she loved Peorray for being.

No. Peorray forbade her automatically, glad for the instruction she’d received in mating flights as most of her was busy flailing in stunned surprise. Wydrith had always looked to her for guidance and reassurance- for the gold to be balking now, even though she’d been told to expect it, was something of a shock to the system.

Not for long, though. Peorray curled her hands into fists as she dug into their link more firmly, feeling her skin beginning to flush with her partner’s reflected heat. Blood, Wydrith. I need you to get the blood and fly high for both of us. Take us high and far, love, please? Can you do that?

It was the right tactic to use. Wydrith would do anything for her rider, even now, and if Peorray needed her to lap up the hot blood of her prey, she would do so. The woman relaxed fractionally as the dragon finally followed her will, and a stray though made her laugh into the night.

Would the mature bronzers at Telgar be able to drag themselves out of sleep in time, or would the weyrling bronzes choose to chase and steal a march on their older fellows?

She never actually saw when her question was answered, letting herself be swept up with Wydrith as the gold launched herself skyward again to begin her flight in earnest.

He had been dreaming when Gelabrith's quiet growl jerked him awake. Relief and sadness poured into him when the dream cut off at a particularly painful bit. So many things could go wrong when T'drin and his bronze finally made it back north and his mind had not given him any leeway in the matter. Gel? he questioned as he swung his legs over the side of his bed, What's wrong? The bronze was slow to answer, his mind a jumble of nearly incoherent thoughts and emotions, causing T'drin to stagger a little. He grunted when his steps landed his shoulder into the door frame.

Slipping out quietly he found his bronze, crouched and ready to spring into the air. His eyes widen at the sight of Gelabrith in such a state. The normally placid bronze, eye beginning to redden, growled low again, his eyes focused on some other sight. "Gelabrith?" T'drin questioned again, "Gel? What the fuck is wrong?!" T'drin could not make heads or tails of the clutter that was beginning fill him up. It was frightening and T'drin didn't like the feeling at all.

Another growl and finally the bronze twisted his head to gaze at his rider, She will rise tonight, The words were gravely, growled and low in T'drin's mind and he had but a second to wonder who before Gelabrith gave a roar that rocked his bones and shot to the beast pens to blood the herdbeasts that ran and bleated in terror. A bright vision, brilliant and gold shot past T'drin to land in another pen.

His mouth opened in a silent "O" and the panic set in, Gel! You're too young. You'll never win, my heart! Stay on the ground! The bronze gave his rider no thought. He was ready. Young and fit. He could win this race and T'drin would not keep him from it. Nothing and no one would keep him from the prize! I am! I will! You will not keep me from her! Gelabrith snarled at T'drin as red eyes tracked Wydrith with intent.

When the gold shot into the air, Gelabrith was not far behind her. It was then that his lust, powerful and deep, coursed through T'drin's body and the young bronzer fought to remain standing. His body flushed and his face reddened as his made his way towards Peorray. He didn't know what would happen, had no real thought past those of his wild and furious dragon. He did know that he and Gelabrith had no chance of winning the flight of on of the best flying golds in the weyr. She would be tricky and quick. And I am strong, Gelabrith's growling voice broke into his thoughts before the bronze flooded his rider with intent.

Awake! Get up! Now! came Vleyth's cry, filled with a primal urge to move that J'tir knew immediately meant a Flight. "What!? What's going on?" He yelled, swinging his feet over the edge of his bed at Southern and speaking aloud. They had had a late night, visiting friends, and the bronzerider was tired from the little party. Looking around he noticed, thank the Egg, that he was alone in his bed. The urgency in his dragon's voice was unusual for him, he never seemed to react so startlingly to a green's Flight which J'tir assumed it was. A gold rises with no bronzes to follow. A gold rises! That lit a fire under the bronzerider's ass as he reached for the closest pair of pants he could find. "Shards! Who!?" he cried breathlessly. Wydrith.

J'tir burst from the hut, not bothering with shoes or any riding gear, and leapt onto his bronze. Settling himself for a quick ride was easy, and as soon as he was astride and stable, Vleyth launched himself into the night, heading straight for the feeding grounds where he knew the gold would be blooding her kills. No, take me to her rider first. he commanded, trying to steer the bronze from his immediate urges. Take me! he repeated, as the bronze made no move to obey. Through their link, the rider could feel the reluctance to obey in his dragon, and once more pressed his intent on his mount. Finally, Vleyth responded and banked away toward where the goldriders hut was likely located. He stopped himself short of the ground and let his rider off before spotting the golden queen rising into the night.

As soon as J'tir was freed from his dragons back, the bronze took off after the queen, quickly leaving the pair on the ground. The man could feel the urge to catch her, to rise high in the morning sky under the moon with the glowing gold. But he pushed that aside for the moment, he was only barely able to resist as he reached for the woman in her nightgown. Her hands were fisted at her sides, her skin (and he could see quite a bit of it) flushed with blood. "Stay with her," he whispered in her ear, seemingly seeing through his eyes as he stared at Wydrith not far ahead of him.

The dragons muscles ached with the strain from which he had taken off from the ground. His eyes roiled with rainbows of color as his thoughts focused solely on the golden queen who flew teasingly before him. His maneuverability increased as his muscles warmed and stretched, allowing him to press forward with more speed, trying to close the gap between them. It seemed to take forever but soon he was inching closer... ever closer to the golden hide. We will win this Flight! She will be mine!   Vleyth roared within him, as his same thoughts collided through the bond. Faster! Higher! J'tir urged his dragon, his vision blurring as his dragons lust overtook him completely. His body urged him toward Peorray and he stopped resisting giving into his dragon.

Peorray twitched slightly when J'tir whispered in her ear, taking a few steps away from the man with an expression too distracted to be called displeasure. It appeared to be an unconscious gesture, the woman taking no more active notice of her suitors than her dragon did of the winged ones. She needed no instruction to stay with her- everything that she was was bound up in the glowing gold stretching her wings more fully than she ever had before.

For a while, Wydrith kept a straight path across the sky, ever onward and upward. No need to play the coquette or look for pretty words of devotion from her bronzes while she was riding the high of being young, strong, and in thrall to the energy sizzling in her blood tonight. So she reveled in the joy of flight, of not having a rider to worry about as she followed this air current or altered course to investigate that interesting cloud.

Eventually, though, flight didn't come as easily as it once had. Wydrith snaked her head around to discover that two pursuing bronzes had closed the gap sometime while she'd been enjoying herself and grumbled quietly. She wasn't ready to be caught yet, by either the familiar, passionate Gelabrith or the older, more experienced Vleyth. If they meant to have her, let them earn it. The gold banked as tightly as one of her size could manage and flew back at the males, threading the needle between them.

She passed closer to Gelabrith than was wise, but judged the gap and her abilities finely enough to escape out the other side uncaught, already planning her next move.

[Spoiler=OOC]

Make your responses, and then my next post will conclude the flight. Thanks to you both for participating :)

J'tir, caught in the rush of dragonlust, bellowed his rage in echo of his dragon as the young bronzerider came toward the pair and in the sky, the younger bronze tried to close in on the gold. He was much too far gone to notice the goldrider move away from him.  " She is mine!" Dragon and rider roared together, both speaking of the same, yet different, subject. Vleyth punctuated his words with a force of will in an attempt to drive off the chasing bronze, but as it came closer the mature bronze seemed to snort with derision that such a youngling thought he could fly a queen. Turning on wingtip, Vleyth cut across the path of the bronze, forcing him to either bank and avoid him or receive injury to wing or the fragile membrane that made up his sails. Any dragon would fight to avoid those injuries. Almost immediately, he turned his attention back to the gold and poured more strength into his wings.

As Wydrith pulled a sudden change of direction, heading back toward the chasing males, she clipped her way through them carefully and passed closer to the younger bronze. Vleyth saw his chance. Just as he was turning from his almost-feigned attack on Gelabrith and stretching forward, powerful strokes of his wings and much straining pushed him above her in the air. Riding adrenaline and lust, he forced his body closer and closer... until just barely... his foreleg reached out and sunk itself into the golds tail. Both man and rider bellowed triumph in their seeming catch of the golden beauty their combined eyes filled with the sights of the most beautiful females they had ever seen. Vleyth's eyes danced red and green, flashing between his emotions of anger for the younger bronze chasing, and the clouding of pleasure hiding behind the lust.

The older bronzerider, his eyes full of Peorray, caught his breath as he gazed at her. She was a strongly built woman, more curvy and taller than those he usually sought, but his eyes beheld her as the most beautiful woman living at Katila.

I authorize the use of power play of Vleyth so that you can end the thread as you see fit Tari. :)

Gelabrith was focused so hard on the shining hide of Wydrith that he didn't see the bigger, older bronze join the chase until he cut a sharp path in front of him. With a frustrated snarl the younger bronze dropped to dart beneath the bigger bronze still intent on the prize. And was surprised when the small Wydrith cut back towards them. Back winging slightly, Gelabrith fought his sturdy body to bank sharply and lost momentum. The bronze was agitated, his rut heavy upon him and the newness of it all was taking a toll. He lost another step when the gold passed close to him and he made a reckless grab for her, one that did not win him his prize.

Far below, T'drin shifted uncomfortably. The emotions that coursed through him via the bronze above had clouded his mind so much that the young man didn't know up from down. He could feel the frustration of Gelabrith and he snarled with it. He focused on the goldrider before him and nothing else. The other rider, a man T'drin didn't know, seemed to shift closer to Peorray and T'drin shifted back, as Gel lost another step.

Gelabrith bellowed when the other bronze's claw made contact with the tail of Wydrith. What did that mean for him? Had he lost? He didn't know but he would continue to pursue the golden body before him. He was not one who enjoyed failure and the bronze was determined.

Wydrith didn't get long to decide on her next move- her own inexperience showed, in giving the males too much time to regroup. She bellowed in startled fury as Vleyth's claws caught at her tail, jerking it free. Ichor flowed from the spots where sharp claws had grasped at their golden prize. The injury, though relatively minor, proved distracting enough that a smart male could recognize the hesitation in Wydrith's flight and move to take advantage of the opportunity in time.

As Vleyth did.

Wydrith's alarm and indignation over her injury faded fast in favor of more urgent desires as the older bronze moved to secure his hard-won catch. On the ground, where Peorray had rounded on J'tir when Wydrith had been hurt, the aggression melted out of her stance as through it had never been, and she let herself be drawn back toward her bed to find a human outlet for their dragons' reflected passions.
