The Character change box is now at the bottom of the page, beside the up/down arrows! Only two days had passed since the mountain turned against them and wiped out their homes and destroyed so much more with the loss of lives. To R’nd, it felt like a month had passed in that time. Sleep wasn’t something he had really allowed himself since there was so much to assist with and in truth, he didn’t want to close his eyes and risk losing his friends and B’jin. The greenrider had been kept under a careful watch when they weren’t able to linger near each other due to the duties that called to them in the aftermath but the fear that something might happen again kept lingering and R’nd couldn’t shake it.

It was only when his wing’s turn at bringing up fresh water from the lake had ended and his wingleader ordered them all to rest, that R’nd finally felt the weight of everything pushing down on him too much. B’jin had said he would be with Indamor that afternoon but R’nd didn’t want to disturb them, despite the desire to hug the greenrider and take comfort in having him close. The father and son needed some time together as well and R’nd really didn’t want to move even further into Indamor’s bad book; the boy was scary enough as it was with his stare! In fact, to stay on the thin line that kept him in the okay book, R’nd realized he should really remember to call the kid N’mor from now on. He had no desire to spite the kid, especially with him now outranking him on a bronze.

Your home is empty right now. Perhaps you should take a turn resting in the bed. Ayyonth head butted R’nd’s shoulder lightly as they lingered behind where their wing had parted ways for the day. Due to being in the area that hadn’t been hit by the landslide, R’nd had offered his home up to his friends that had lost their own in the devastation so they would have somewhere faintly familiar to rest in without any added fears. Knowing it was open for his own use right then was nice and resting seemed even better but he was restless and knew he’d do nothing but stare at the ceiling.

“No, not yet. I want,” R’nd wasn’t sure what he wanted despite the obvious but an idea came to him and a faint smile appeared. “To fly without a purpose, Ayyonth. If you’re not tired, let’s soar on the wind and get away from everything for a bit.” The death, destruction, and the mood of the Weyr was beginning to get even to him and a quiet escape for even a few minutes sounded perfect.

I’m never too tired to help you, R’nd. R’nd laughed and it felt nice to be able to do such a thing again as it brought a bit of hope to him that perhaps life would return to something akin to normal eventually. “Liar. You’re definitely too tired to help if it amuses you to be.” Ayyonth was a playful dragon, enjoying tricks and pranks, especially on his own rider. If R’nd flailing around would bring entertainment, then Ayyonth would happily ignore requests thrown at him. Of course they both knew in dire and serious situations, Ayyonth was a steady and true companion.

Several minutes later and they were flying lazily above the forest in the direction of the lake with Rell keeping pace after he popped in to join them. R’nd refused to look down until Katila was properly behind him. He had seen the mess from above enough times that it was engrained in his memories but he didn’t need a refresher while he was trying to unwind and escape reality for a small while. Ayyonth was happy to oblige that request and carefully caught wind currents and swooped one way and another but always kept the Weyr behind them and the promise of one of their favourite lounging locations of the lake in front of them.

After a little while with more and more of the stress melting away, R’nd spotted a nice area amongst the trees that seemed large enough for Ayyonth to safely land in. A stroll through the forest sounds nice right now. You can join me as much as you can. Ayyonth dipped low and eventually landed in the clearing and R’nd slid free. The riding straps were gently removed and Ayyonth shook himself out, happy to be freed from the constraints for a time. I’ll stay here. Enjoy yourself but don’t stray too far. I won’t be able to squeeze through much of the forest if you find trouble.

“I love it when you worry but I’ll be fine. Rest up, my friend. I’ll be back shortly.” R’nd patted Ayyonth’s neck and headed off between the trees. While he much preferred the beach and water, strolling through the forest was another activity R’nd often did to relax. Usually he stayed close to Katila in his wanderings or along the river and lake since Ayyonth couldn’t always tag along but that left quite a fair bit of unexplored – by him – forest between the three areas. The current one didn’t seem all that familiar though R’nd guessed he was about an hour’s walk from the lake. It just showed how vast the land was that so much was left unknown to him.

It was actually a rather open area. There were trees but they weren’t as tightly packed like other parts of the forest. Ayyonth could have tagged along and really not have any worries about getting stuck. At least, until R’nd made his way through the large expanse of what he considered a clearing compared to what he was moving into. The trees thickened again but it didn’t bother him. He was on an adventure now and exploring had definitely taken his mind off of other things.

When water lapping at the edge of rocks was heard, R’nd’s curiosity was completely grabbed and he pushed through low hanging branches and into an area that was completely unexpected. A cautious glance was given to the area; if there was water, there was a good chance animals would be near as well if it was considered a watering hole. Rell didn’t seem on alert, which was a good sign, but R’nd wasn’t taking chances. Careful steps brought R’nd up to the edge and he dipped his fingers into the water that seemed clean and gave off no foul odour. As the warmth of the water spread over his hand and R’nd’s eyes lit up and another smile appeared. “Hot springs?” Had he just discovered a hidden away paradise of clean, hot water surrounded by the silence of the forest?

He had to show B’jin! There was an urge to simply strip down and jump in right away but his lover needed the bath and unwinding just as much. Besides, soaking in hot water was always far more enjoyable with someone else.

He only had to remember his way back to the hot springs.

R’nd frowned for a moment, worried that between stress, fatigue, and it simply being a new place that he would never find it again. It was easy enough to have Ayyonth call to Larrikith and have the green pair come to them but R’nd liked the idea of going back to get B’jin and fresh clothes far better. Since he was thinking about fresh clothes, his current outfit was given a glance and R’nd grimaced. Everyone looked as he did, covered in mud, but the bluerider loved his clothing and loved looking good. Since his shirt was already ruined and despite it being among the last in his wardrobe thanks to shirts either being ruined or mysteriously walking off, R’nd stripped it off and tore it into several pieces. It was only after doing so that he remembered he had a firelizard that could help with navigation. He laughed as he looked at his ruined shirt but decided to still use the idea to make sure it was relocated without issue.

As he made his way back to Ayyonth, pieces of his shirt were left as markers to help guide him back to his private paradise. The large clearing was easy enough to find again but he definitely didn’t want to lose the path he had taken, especially with B’jin in toe. It’d be embarrassing but also a letdown after finding something they could both enjoy and hide in for a while.

As soon as the straps were on once more, Ayyonth brought them back to Katila and R’nd could barely contain the bounce in his step as he headed directly for N’mor’s room after grabbing a bag of clothes and strapping them to Ayyonth at his hut. R’nd peeked inside the room instead of bursting in like his excitement wanted him to do. N’mor was asleep, which was probably best given the pain the surgery had to have left him in, and the dragonet slept as well. It looked like the little bronze had recently fed and R’nd knew B’jin would have tended to that matter personally. Not only was he the weyrlingmaster for the bronze, but Rhezalth had bonded to B’jin’s son. That was more than enough reason to ensure the dragonet stayed healthy. R’nd had already decided to offer to oil the dragonet’s hide that night to give B’jin a break; assuming Rhezalth let him.

R’nd slipped inside, waited to make sure B’jin saw him and knew who was entering, and finally guided the greenrider into a hug with a kiss to his nose. “I found something amazing, B’jin.” Even though N’mor was probably knocked out from fellis or some other medication, R’nd continued to keep his voice low so he didn’t disturb anyone. It was a bit harder right then with his excitement over a bath and surprising B’jin but he still managed. “When you’re ready for a break, I’d like to show you. You’ll love it, I promise.”

B'jin rubbed absently at his temple as he watched the young bronze climb up onto the bed (he was starting to get much much too big to be sleeping there) and make himself comfortable once more. He'd probably eaten a bit more than was advisable, his belly expanded like an over stuffed bronze ball. Their eyes met for a few moments, and B'jin sighed softly as Rhezalth snuggled against Indamor's side, the opposite side to where the amputated limb was propped carefully upon a pillow, and breathed soft warm breath over his lifemate's face. Indamor stirred, lashes fluttering over dark brown eyes looking into his dragon's face with affection before shifting to look at B'jin with a hazy expression. B'jin could see the lingering whispers of pain and drugs in the dull gaze.

"Hey, kiddo."  B'jin smiled gently as he stepped closer, brushing hair back from Indamor's face and placing a gentle kiss on his son's temple. Reaching over to the little beside table, and came back with a small cup of water. B'jin helped Indamor sit up and drink the liquid, before settling his son back down when it became clear he was on the brink of falling asleep again. Talian had told him that he wouldn't be keeping Indamor so heavily drugged for long, but for now - and especially since Rhezalth seemed to be handling it so well - it was better for the boy to be unconscious and healing, than conscious and healing. B'jin smoothed the blanket down, a worried frown on his face; how would his boy handle his Weyrlinghood now? Impressing Rhezalth had opened up so many opportunities for his son... and, and now... B'jin sighed and stood back up, pacing across the room with the frown back between his brows and a frustrated hand raking through knotted blonde hair.

You have company, love. Larrikith's voice was soft and subtle, careful about interrupting B'jin's thoughts but knowing that he wouldn't want to be taken by surprise, or to have R'nd leave when he realised how B'jin was fretting over things that couldn't be helped. The greenrider turned to look towards the door, left hand still caught in his own hair as he blinked at R'nd. His hand was lowered slowly, and he melted into his lover's arms and puffed out a soft sigh. A weary smile was give in response to the kiss upon his nose, and B'jin hugged R'nd tight, before loosening his grip and resting his chin lazily on the bluerider's shoulder and arms looped lazily around his waist.

"I would like that," B'jin murmured, lifting his chin from R'nd's shoulder to lean back a little and meet grey eyes with brown. The excitement could be seen, bubbling under the surface and B'jin's expression brightened just slightly from the airs of utter exhaustion to curious and slightly more awake. "Indamor woke a moment ago, but he and Rhezalth should sleep for a while now." Stepping back a little, B'jin's left hand found R'nd's and he wove their fingers together. "Lead the way, love." Larrikith would stay to keep an eye on the Weyrlings, assuming Ayyonth was not adverse to carrying him; he didn't think he would be.

As assumed, Ayyonth didn’t mind bringing B’jin along to R’nd’s surprise. He was large enough to support both men with ease and given the high regard and affection R’nd held B’jin in, Ayyonth wouldn’t turn B’jin away even if he had wanted. Larrikith was shown where they were going to keep the little green in the loop though Ayyonth knew she trusted him enough to not think he was bringing them anywhere that would endanger her rider. The only hazard B’jin had to worry about would be pruning from being in the water too long.

“It’s not very far, I promise,” R’nd assured B’jin once they were on the ground at the clearing from earlier. The bag of supplies and clean clothes was slung over a shoulder and he offered his other hand to B’jin so they could take the leisurely stroll together. His trail of shirt pieces made him chuckle and an embarrassing retelling of how he forgot about the blue firelizard that was merrily flying just ahead of them each step of the way was given. It seemed like the best idea at the time!

The sound of flowing water was faint when R’nd finally stopped their trek and he turned to B’jin, smiling brightly. “Close your eyes, love. I’ll lead you the rest of the way, it’s just a few steps more, but I want you to be properly surprised.” A mini pout was given when B’jin hesitated a moment but the smile was back in place when brown eyes did shut. Hopefully his sneaky lover didn’t peek! The idea to cover B’jin’s eyes with his hands and walk behind him was tempting but R’nd went with the original plan of leading the greenrider by hand the last few steps through the hidden entrance he had marked off. Another scan of the area for animals was given but still none seemed to be lurking nearby.

“Okay, open your eyes,” R’nd was nearly bouncing where he stood as he watched B’jin for his reaction. If it had been days earlier that he found the place, it would have been exciting and enjoyed but not on the current level. The bathhouse had been destroyed and any bathing had to be done in the cool lake or warming water over a campfire and neither was overly enjoyable. To have found such a place that didn’t seem to be in use by anyone else was amazing and R’nd wanted to enjoy it with B’jin and spoil the man that had so much on his plate with so little sleep.

“It’s all ours,” for now, anyway. He knew it and no doubt B’jin did as well. They couldn’t keep such a treasure to themselves after everything that had happened but R’nd was feeling a bit selfish and wanted to keep it as theirs for the time being.

Riding Ayyonth was still something B’jin found awkward and slightly uncomfortable. The blue dragon was bulkier than Larrikith, which made sitting on him awkward all by itself, but the loss of immediate communication the all-knowing link between a dragon and his dragon was gone. B’jin trusted R’nd impeccably, but that did not stop the lingering fear that curled through him and flushed through his veins. B’jin leaned into R’nd, every moment of the short trip, and tried not to be overly eager to dismount when Ayyonth had landed; he still stumbled when his feet hit the ground about six seconds after they should have and he tottered on the spot for a few moments.

A grin was given to his lover though, when R’nd promised it wasn’t far away – whatever ‘it’ was – and B’jin smirked at the fun story, fingers woven through R’nd’s and a quiet hum accompanying the bluerider’s words. The mentioning of the firelizard had B’jin unconsciously calling to his own little troublemaker, and Shimmer appeared in the air above them with a cool splattering of between. She chittered softly, sweeping low enough to brush her wingtip over B’jin’s cheek, before crooning and vanishing between once more. B’jin got the impression Larrikith had called her, and was both started and suspicious when he realised she had called both firelizards. Brown eyes narrowed suspiciously, but he made no comment.

B’jin paused when R’nd stopped, eyebrows arching upwards as he watched the bluerider turn to him. His request was greeted with lips pursed into a line and a playfully suspicious look was given to his lover. He trusted R’nd not to lead him off the edge of a cliff, or worse, into a patch of numbweed – but B’jin still was not overly prone to surprises. They had rather an unfortunate tendency to be unpleasant! The excited expression and the sulky pout won him over, though, and B’jin’s eyes fluttered shut with a half sigh, a dramatic edge put to the sound though one corner of his lips twitched in delight. He followed R’nd placidly, and without peeking, something testified by the fact that he walked as close as he could to his lover, and frequently stepped on his heels.

A low grunt of surprise escaped B’jin as he ran into R’nd’s back, not realising the bluerider had stopped. The invitation to open his eyes was acknowledged, but B’jin still waited a few more long seconds before following through. He wanted to give R’nd a chance to change his mind (Faranth knew what he was leading him to, there could be specifics involved!) before dark blonde lashes fluttered up and brown eyes adjusted to the change in scenery and lighting.

B’jin’s lips quirked at the clear excitement R’nd was giving off; the barely contained bouncing and the bright expression. Brown eyes studied his lover dramatically for a few moments, before shifting, turning his gaze away to see what it was R’nd had wanted to show him… he stared. Eyes widening dramatically, the greenrider somehow managed not to let his jaw drop, though eyebrows arched upwards and he made a little sound that was along the lines of ‘Oh!’ The fingers curled between R’nd’s dropped away, and B’jin spun suddenly, throwing both freed arms around his lover’s neck and very nearly sending them both to the ground. “You are amazing!” The final word came out on a low growl, followed up swiftly by a delighted kiss that B’jin pulled out of as suddenly as he had initiated it.

His arms fell from around R’nd’s neck to trail down his chest and loose the ties of his pants, even as B’jin was toeing off his own shoes, all the while walking backwards, drawing R’nd along with him and leaving a trail of clothing pieces. B’jin was not sure if it took forever to reach the edge of the pool, or if they were upon it before he could blink. Either way, B’jin broke his gaze from R’nd’s with reluctance, and turned it upon the pool. How hot was it? (He could see steam rising off the surface) and how deep? There was clearly room for both of them (and then some). Gripping R’nd by the arm, B’jin stuck his toe in the water warily (and more than a little comically), and was pleasantly surprised when the water opted not to scald the skin off it.

A bright grin lit up B’jin’s face as he dropped suddenly to the ground and slid in, feeling around warily with his feet as he waited for them to find the bottom… there! A delightfully deep pool, coming halfway up to his chest; B’jin stood up and walked a couple of paces, feeling carefully with his warmed toes still, before turning to look up at R’nd. He did not say anything, just stared up at the bluerider with come-hither eyes, while he swirled his fingers through the top of the water with airs of innocence that no one would ever believe.

B’jin’s reaction was everything R’nd could have hoped for. The excitement, the praise, and the kiss were all perfect and made the trek back to find the greenrider and bring him along to surprise him well worth it. He had to admit, on the trip back to the hut, there was a brief moment where R’nd wondered if he should have bathed first, testing out the water and making sure everything was perfect with it in the process, but he wanted to experience it all with B’jin. Besides, B’jin would have been suspicious if he showed up clean and in such high spirits. Sure, a dip in the lake could have cleaned him up just as well but the water was cold and B’jin would have sulked instead of beamed brightly when the hot springs were shown to him and he pieced together R’nd hadn’t waited for him.

As B’jin dragged them towards the water, R’nd tossed the bag of supplies to the edge of the pool and easily removed his clothes with each step. It wasn’t exactly new to him to strip while moving. Too many flights had contributed to the talent but R’nd would be fooling himself if he tried to pretend his romps with everyone outside of flights didn’t have anything to do with the way he could fluidly step out of pants while walking or assist a lover with their shirt without hindering the walk to the bed. So it was, once they were at the water’s edge, both men were properly undressed for a dip and R’nd grinned at the results.

The grin stayed in place as he watched B’jin examine the water and test it out as he slowly made his way into the pool. Waiting had definitely been the right decision. Not only had he no idea how the water felt or how deep it was, but he got to experience it all and discover all of the pools’ secrets with the man that now possessed R’nd’s own deep secrets.

When the come hither eyes met his, R’nd was B’jin’s prisoner and didn’t put up even the smallest bit of playful resistance. R’nd slipped into the pool, sighing as the hot water embraced him, and with three small steps through that blissful water, came up to the greenrider that arms circled around to pull close. “I take it you don’t like the surprise, then?” He was teasing, of course, since they both knew such a reaction would never come for something B’jin didn’t love. R’nd laughed softly and enticed B’jin into a kiss.

“This is our paradise. Nothing else exists while we’re here until you’re ready for it to.” R’nd wouldn’t dream of actually keeping B’jin from his duties or his son if Indamor woke and needed him but he did want his friend to take a much needed break and relax.

“Not at all,” B’jin purred, just before R’nd’s lips claimed his, a smile still lingering on the corners of his own. The surprise was glorious, and B’jin honestly could not remember the last time he had been so thrilled by a gift given to him, by anyone. That R’nd had managed to find such a wonderful area, and chose him to share it with above all others...! Well, B’jin knew that truth had been spoken the evening following the landslide, but there were still moments he could not believe it, and other times when he was worried that the rug would be pulled out from wriggling toes on happy feet. It caused moments like the one he was wrapped up in, encircled in R’nd’s arms, mean so very much more. He made no effort to hide that fact, either, as he returned the bluerider’s kisses.

B’jin wrapped his arms loosely around R’nd’s neck and leaned back leisurely, a lazy smile on his lips. The warm water was gorgeous after so long bathing either in the cool lake, or by sponge. B’jin did not approve of sponge baths in the slightest; they reminded him too much of times when he had been forced to endure them due to injuries. No, standing almost chest-deep in the warm pool was far, far more his style! He could feel the smooth stone bottom under his feet, and idly wondered where the water came from, but not enough to actively steal his attention away from R’nd. “Sounds wonderful,” another low purr stringing lazy words together, and B’jin flashed a quick smile and kissed R’nd on the nose before wriggling gently out of his grasp and ducking under the warm water.

He came up with a gasp, brushing lengthened strands of dark blonde hair out of his face and blinking water from his lashes. B’jin had no doubt Larrikith would thoroughly enjoy reminding him of the reality that was awaiting them back at the was-once-our-home, and had every intention of being fully and wonderfully clean before the bitch did so. Throwing an impish look in R’nd’s direction, B’jin made his way slowly back to the edge of the pool, and flailed around slightly as he fought to reach the bag without having to remove any more of his body from the warm pool than required. It took a few moments, but he turned back to his lover with soap-sand in hand and a mischievous expression stealing across his features.

B’jin made his way back to the bluerider, waiting until R’nd got B’jin’s vague hints and held his hands out, cupped together, so B’jin could share his soap-sand bounty with the other rider. Flashing an innocent grin, B’jin drew a soapy streak down R’nd’s nose, before sudsy fingers danced over toned shoulders and over his lover's chest, stopping just a little ways above the line of the water. They would have to get out, for a proper soaping, but B’jin was content to wash what could be reached without getting out, first. The water was far too lovely! Stepping in closer to his lover, B’jin rubbed soapy hands together, and then carefully combed his fingers through the bluerider’s wet hair.

R’nd would have been lying if he said he didn’t find the view of B’jin scrambling for the bathing supplies amusing and delightful. It was nice to know that the man liked the surprise enough that he didn’t want to get out of the water, even for the items that would help make him sparkling clean again. A soft chuckle was given but it vanished when the bag was retrieved and B’jin returned with the soap-sand.

The temptation to distract B’jin from his task, especially once hands started running over his body, was strong but somehow R’nd kept his hands to himself. Mostly it was due to knowing the greenrider well enough that getting clean was something that had been craved for days and R’nd didn’t want to make B’jin wait any longer, even if the reason would be enjoyable. But other reasons were he knew they had plenty of time to play and fully enjoy their private paradise and, as selfish as it was, R’nd enjoyed the pampering B’jin was giving him and he nearly purred when fingers worked the sand-soap through his hair.

Finally finding a bit of his usual self again that wasn’t complete putty in B’jin’s soapy hands, R’nd started applying the soap-sand to B’jin as well. Words weren’t needed as they enjoyed each other’s company with the simple yet currently decadent task of bathing. When B’jin was done with his hair, R’nd left it in the soapy sculpture his lover had no doubt created so he could slip around B’jin to wash with a bit a massage a back and shoulders that seemed far too tense in recent days. He worked slowly, hands working as palms and knuckles took turns kneading their way down the spine and over each taut muscle.

Once satisfied that B’jin was clean and relaxed, R’nd finished the massage and took a moment to wash the suds from his hair. Wet strands were brushed away from his face when he resurfaced and despite only half of their bodies being cleaned, R’nd made it intermission and wrapped his arms around B’jin from behind. He kissed a shoulder before dropping his head to rest on it. “If we built a little home in the clearing, we could spend every day lounging in or by the water. It’d be peaceful and far more convenient than making a trip from the Weyr proper.” His voice was soft and full of whimsical longing as he stared at nothing in particular but enjoyed the soothing sound of water around them with B’jin in his arms.

If R’nd was putty under B’jin’s light touch, the greenrider was nothing less than liquid gloop under his lover’s delightful and attentive work. If sitting had been an option, B’jin was pretty sure he would have been blissfully asleep by the time R’nd’s massage came to an end. While R’nd rinsed off, B’jin did the same, dropping under the water in a hail of bubbles to remove the lavender scented (naturally!) soap suds from his skin, and out of his hair. Rising once more, B’jin brushed the water off his face, leaning back happily as R’nd cuddled up behind him.

B’jin gave a little quiver of delight; in part, it was from the light kiss and the brush of R’nd’s breath over his shoulder. Mostly, though, it was in response to the word ‘we’ and only one home being mentioned. The greenrider had never intended for his relationship with R’nd to become what it was. He had decided that the bluerider was delightful company after Larrikith’s first fateful flight with Ayyonth, before learning that many of the greenriders preferred to partner the younger man for much the same reason. When the bluerider had been the only one willing to socialise with him after he had gotten into trouble with D’ren, well, B’jin’s loneliness had quickly become the foundation for infatuation.

After that, it had only been a matter of time, really, though the greenrider had gone out of his way to deny it at every possible instant – much to the amusement of individuals like Par’a and Valerian. B’jin’s nose scrunched up in remembrance of some of the conversations that had been had, and then he sighed softly as he leaned back his head so he could place a light kiss on R’nd’s cheek. Something R’nd didn’t need to know – B’jin could only imagine how the flighty man would react to such an admittance and while B’jin was fairly sure R’nd wasn’t about to abandon him any time soon, he saw no reason to fuel the poor bluerider’s natural instincts. He’d one enough of that over the course of their friendship, too!

Still, B’jin had always been prone to pressing buttons, and he had a gorgeous one to press now that gave him warm fuzzies, even if the occasional widening of R’nd’s eyes was slightly scary. Who knew saying ‘I love you’ could extract so many responses and emotions? B’jin turned lazily in R’nd’s arms, using one hand in passing to nudge R’nd’s chin up just enough to steal a lingering kiss, heated far more with B’jin’s currently fuzzy-lovey emotions than lust. He broke the kiss reluctantly, a smile playing at the corners of his lips.

“Brilliant idea, love.” B’jin’s brown eyes sparkled as the idea took over his ambling thoughts, and his smile suddenly turned naughty as he gave R’nd a sly look. “I wonder if Jeratana knew about these springs?” He gave a little snort; either the greenrider in question had known about the hot water pools since she and her dragon had claimed the area for themselves all those turns ago during the exile, and kept them a very dedicated secret (for which B’jin was fairly sure many in the Weyr would not take kindly to). Or she hadn’t bothered to explore very much at all! B’jin giggled, knowing the greenrider in question well enough that she would have had no idea, and would be outraged about that fact. She was going to get so much shit from everyone!

R’nd chuckled at whether or not Jeratana knew about the springs. He didn’t really know the woman well enough to judge her that way but given the state of the little pools and how there wasn’t a stock of soap sand or any other personal touch to show it was visited regularly or even infrequently. “Nah, love, I don’t think she knows. But what I know is we’re alone, together, in this hidden paradise no one has ever seen before.” It gave R’nd chills to think that they really were the first humans to sit in the hot water and walk among old but beautiful trees. Considering how much time was spent in exile surrounded by trees and water and then Katila’s trees, the current environment shouldn’t have been so impressive but R’nd couldn’t help himself. Everything about the place was breath-taking.

No doubt the present company played a large portion in the esthetics and mysticism of the place as well.

His arms that rested lightly around B’jin tightened slightly for a warm embrace as R’nd let out a gentle sigh. He really was in love with the little piece of forest. Among other things, Ayyonth interjected with a snort though R’nd’s mind refused to follow the dragon’s path that led to love and B’jin. It wasn’t that he didn’t agree but despite everything that had happened and been said in recent days, it was still far easier and more relaxing not to focus too much on feelings. R’nd knew they were there, as did B’jin, why did they have to point them out again?

Unintentionally caught up in the waves of affection his attempts to ignore such things brought about, R’nd found himself guiding B’jin into another kiss. It was affectionate with all of his feelings on display at first but the passion quickly deepened and hands soon joined in on showing the greenrider on other ways to break in the new pools. A devious laugh sounded deep in his throat as R’nd moved from lips to neck to lavish B’jin in kisses before he moved lower still. He was going to properly worship his lover and make them both forget about the devastation and tension outside the enclosure of the trees held; at least for a little while. Everything was aligned perfectly and they both needed the release as much as they needed their backs scrubbed.

A shiver of delighted anticipation curled down B’jin’s spine at the change in R’nd’s tone, subtle thought it was, and he turned in the light encirclement of R’nd’s arms. “Indeed,” B’jin murmured softly, watching R’nd’s face as his lover relaxed; he stepped a little closer, winding his arms lazily and low around R’nd’s waist. A placid, warm smile flickered into life on his lips as they were claimed by the bluerider’s, lashes fluttering to close brown eyes.

B’jin tilted his head without opening his eyes as R’nd turned his lips onto the greenrider’s neck, B’jin’s own hands exploring more placidly, the movements more to keep them occupied than to direct anything. B’jin was feeling far too placid, as the warm water soaked into his very bones, and muscles relaxed after the massage he had been on the receiving end of so recently. It felt brilliant to be warm and clean once more, to be relaxed and feel happy instead of overwhelmed by the grief that still hung over the Weyr like a black and smothering blanket.

~ ~ ~

B’jin pouted up at R’nd pathetically, until the bluerider assisted him out of the pool with a pruned up hand. B’jin flopped much like a fish beside his lover, feet still dangling in the pool, and leaned against R’nd’s side. Warm, content, relaxed and sated, B’jin kissed his lover’s cheek lightly.

Nuzzling against R’nd’s neck with all the lazy abandon of a sightless kitten, B’jin puffed out a soft sigh. “We should set your tent up here,” he smiled lazily against R’nd’s neck. They could forget about all the drama back with the rest of the Weyr – or what was left of it – and spend their time rolling out of bed and into a hot pool, and back again. B’jin’s smile twisted slightly to be slightly more devilish, but he did not have the energy to do much more then run his hand over R’nd’s thigh, fingers light and dancing.

R’nd laughed good-naturedly as he pulled B’jin from the water, shaking his head in disbelief at the current level of laziness. He didn’t mind, of course, since he was in almost the same level. This was exactly what they both needed and it showed in the way they relaxed and enjoyed even the smallest of pleasures like a hot bath and silence.

When B’jin spoke, it startled R’nd who was lost in the moment of existing where peace still resided. A few seconds passed before he figured out what was meant by tents and living away from everyone but then his own comment about setting up a home next to the pools returned to him and R’nd smiled. “Maybe not too close. I’d hate for you to roll from bed to pool accidentally or for our dragons to find a way to wake us up with water.” He sighed when Ayyonth popped up to say he liked the idea. “I think Ayyonth is already coming up with ways.”

When Ayyonth started to toss out creative ideas, R’nd shoved the dragon to the back of his mind. He didn’t need the teasing while relaxing and escaping the horrors that had taken over the Weyr and tried to focus on the good things he currently had. He couldn’t say exactly when the idea came to him but as he held B’jin close with feet splashing in the water, he thought about the tent near the water more and more until the courage to share the idea finally came to him. He glanced down at their feet, enjoying the sight of them poking at each other far more than he expected he’d like seeing the play of emotions on his lover’s face as he spoke.

“What if we do move out here?” R’nd began on a whisper, still worried he was about to speak nonsense. After all, he was young and only a bluerider. Who would really listen to him? Normally, colour rank didn’t mean much to the man that befriended everyone and defended those that needed it but for such an idea, it was hard not to think he was worthless. “All of us – everyone. And no, not just our families and friends but the entire population. Some huts are still standing but most of Katila isn’t. We could all rebuild down here together, away from the mountain and the devastation. A new start.” R’nd was hopeful but cautious with it. B’jin was older and wiser and would know better if the idea was plausible. It didn’t matter that B’jin being a greenrider contradicted his own fear of not being heard.

“As if Larrikith needs more corrupting,” B’jin teased, still breathing warm breath over R’nd’s neck as his head lulled lazily on his lover’s shoulder, brown eyes peering up at the bluerider with dry amusement. Ayyonth could hardly be blamed for much of Larrikith’s current nature, and the green was more than capable of thinking up her own antics when it came to water and humans, but the pair of them sharing ideas? B’jin gave an overly dramatic shudder.

The silence was one that was charged, and B’jin, uncommonly perceptive in that moment, waited patiently as he watched R’nd stare down at their toes, clearly thinking. Smiling just slightly, B’jin brushed one wet foot up his lover’s calf, wondering if that would prompt the other man to speak, or side track him – either of which B’jin was more than prepared to deal with. When the bluerider finally whispered, B’jin tilted his head, lifting it from R’nd’s shoulder and arched an eyebrow at him, clearly surprised.

The suggestion to move out had been purely teasing, and B’jin was more than a little startled to see R’nd thinking about it so seriously. B’jin was chewing over how to respond, when his lover continued. The other eyebrow rose up to join its mate, and B’jin blinked. Licking his lips, B’jin turned to look out over the pool and towards the trees not so far away. He considered the suggestion very seriously, chewing his bottom lip as he thought.

“S’kef wants to return North,” B’jin pointed out quietly; the brownrider had made the announcement the other day, after Tsuen had died. He licked his lips again and turned to study R’nd’s face. “He’d be a fool, to completely abandon Katila, though,” he added, considering. S’kef was a lot of things, and B’jin did not think that highly of him in general, but the man was intelligent and the greenrider was disinclined to believe that Katila would be ultimately abandoned forever. “The Hold’s won’t jump at giving Tithe once more, and I doubt the Halls will like us much,” he gave a dark smile that held no humour within it. “You have to remember those born down here, too…”

He trailed off. If D’ren had been in charge still, he would have dashed off to see the bronzerider almost in that moment (clothing, of course, would have needed to be struggled into first) but with S’kef in charge. B’jin grimaced, and shrugged slightly. He wasn’t about to charge off to see the brownrider, and he knew R’nd didn’t have a good standing record when it came to the acting Weyrleader. Lolling his head back onto R’nd’s shoulder, B’jin gave him a smile that slowly turned into a smirk.

“I’ll talk to J’ver, and he can talk to S’kef.” In all likelihood, R’nd wouldn’t get any credit if he went through J’ver – undoubtedly the slimy greenrider would take credit if S’kef did like the idea, and be very quick to lay it onto B’jin (or R’nd, but B’jin doubted it, unless he had an issue he was unaware of with his bluerider) if S’kef thought it stupid. It would be worth the risk, though, if it meant living by hot water. B’jin really liked hot water.

Grinning again, B’jin slithered into the pool, and turned to face his lover, running wet hands up the bluerider’s thighs.

R’nd frowned at the hesitation before B’jin spoke, more so when the counter points were brought up, and thought his mouth would freeze into a deep frown when the idea of talking to J’ver was brought up. The greenrider wasn’t nearly as vicious as S’kef could be but he was still slimy and hard to trust. It wasn’t even whether or not he’d get credit for the idea that bothered R’nd but simply having B’jin near the man that seemed to have enough information on everyone in Katila to keep them wrapped around his finger until he was bored didn’t sit well at all.

“I didn’t think about all of those points but they’re valid and you’re onto something with tithing and those that are more comfortable here than in the North, whether born here or lost too much in the past.” They would need older dragonriders to help run the Weyr and oversee the crops and herds just as always, especially if it would end up helping to keep a Northern Weyr running. No doubt the older riders would want to stay South and consider it a retirement of sorts while the younger ones that were born in Katila or didn’t remember the North would be afraid of the move. They definitely couldn’t abandon Katila but they couldn’t leave anyone behind in the unstable current location so a new one was needed.

“I’ll talk to the Weyrsecond, love. No need to bother J’ver while he’s recovering from his injuries,” R’nd did his best to mask his dislike and even fear of the greenriders being alone together and as horrible as it was to say, was thankful J’ver had been injured and could use it as an excuse to keep them apart. Besides, the Weyrsecond never seemed busy and had a far more agreeable personality.

Figuring that was enough politics and clever brainstorming for the time being, R’nd focused on the hands running over his thighs and a slim brow rose in interest. “Not done playing in the water, I see,” a devious grin appeared as R’nd slipped in after B’jin and caught him up in his embrace. “Good because neither am I.”
